I Ve Got The Light Of Freedom Analysis
That said, we should not forget that leadership and empowerment often strongly depend on
mobilization. The fact that national leaders existed served to create role models that engendered
a sense of unity and communality. As the media were very selective when it came to the coverage
of local struggles, the attention that leaders like Martin Luther King and others received was
important to force the real and imaginative ties that invigorated the struggles on the local level.
Therefore, Payne s critique entails different layers. First, it is clearly a criticism of a scholarship
that selectively focuses on famous leaders and the most dramatic events. As such, it is a critique of
a historical narrative that provides only a glimpse of what the... Show more content on

Therefore, it is understandable that movement scholars tend to write from a rather activist stance.
There is nothing wrong with this per se, however, as historians, we should critically assess in how
far this positioning might limit our scholarship. At times, Payne tends to overemphasize the unity
and the solidarity among the organizers and the local population and fails to mention the tensions
among direct democratic groups like SNCC. Every social movement is made up of people, united
under what they perceive as an urgent need to bring about change. This unity tends to suppress
theoretical and practical differences for some time and can thus create a tremendous amount of
communality and solidarity among its members. However, as history has shown over and over
again, as soon as the external threat either diminishes or proves resistant to change, movements tend
to disunite. This is what Baker and other activists wanted to prevent by modeling their training
around local long term strategies and individual

Is Beowulf A Successful Hero Or King
When people think of a successful king, they often associate them with the hero. However, many
fail to notice that no one could own both the title king and the hero at the same time; they need to
give up either one of the titles to become a truly successful hero or king. In the famous epic poem,
Beowulf, despite Hrothgar rules Danes, another hero, Beowulf, shows up to solve Danes problem
while the true Danes king sits on his throne and simply gives all honor and credit to Beowulf. To
become a truly successful leader, one must know to put down his honor and fame for his people s
safety. Furthermore, a ruler who cares about his people in every aspect fits the title king, not a

While Beowulf has not defeated Grendel yet, Hrothgar warmly welcomes Beowulf and makes him
as comfortable as possible to prepare his fight with Grendel, because Hrothgar understands clearly
that without Beowulf s help, he cannot protect his people.
Continuing, even though he did not defeat Grendel by himself, Hrothgar demonstrates the
wisdom a king needs to rule his kingdom. At the arrival of Beowulf s troops, Hrothgar knew
distinctly that he needed to gain their loyalty in order to let Beowulf fight Grendel, so he
generously gave plenty of drinks and he even brought out his own wife to please them, ...the
Helming woman went on her rounds, / queenly and dignified, decked out in rings, / offering the
goblet to all ranks, (620 622). Hrothgar utilizes his tactful mind to gain these warriors trust, even
though he could not fight anymore like Beowulf, the Danes king s wisdom remains and makes
him qualify as a king. Furthermore, Hrothgar gives advice to Beowulf, which reveals the insight
Hrothgar has and the great worldview he yields. He says to Beowulf, ...beware of that trap.
/ Choose, dear Beowulf, the better part, / Eternal rewards. Do not give way to pride. (1758 1760).
In these lines, Hrothgar warns Beowulf about the danger pride wields, which can infiltrate the
strongest warrior; he pointed out the most dangerous trap, which people in that time period
ignored easily when they become a leader. Overall, Hrothgar gives a great example of a true

Sadly though, both tattoos having withered over time, were now nothing more than a couple of
large green blotches, barely recognizable. Lovienthal splashed a couple of handfuls of water onto

Mkt 421 Week 4 Statement Analysis
Meanings In Messages
What influenced the similarities and differences in you answers?
After reading all four statements and carefully answering them, I was more drawn to statements 1
3. Due the fact that a persons communication skills are needed in most or shall I say in all jobs, to
convey a message for the task to get done and in a timely manner. Also a person can be
competitive and persuasive, in order to say on top, and keep the focus of the company, and the
employees that the business get s handled. Now for the statements 2 4, I really didn t have much to
say about the two.
How do these influences contribute to the meanings we assign to messages?

Typically, however, this is what most focus on.
Having trained many salespeople, recruiters, and even stage speakers, most of them are mostly
concerned with what to say... what s my script, what s my presentation, what do I say when they
have this objection, etc. before you communicate (recruit, prospect, present) words to someone, be
sure you rekindle and reconnect to your true emotion for what you re saying and then say it with
the full passion and enthusiasm of your heart and soul attach the iron bars of emotion to the straight
pins of your words.
What will you do to reconnect with your convictions and feelings before you speak? What will
you do to be sure you resell yourself before trying to sell another? Do that and thousands will
march in the direction of your command (Hardy, 2014).
Reframing the above statements in a conversation that would change how others perceive the
information being received, would be a great way for all parts to be comfortable, and no one will
offended, it s all that easy to do.

The Great Chicago Fire
On Sunday, October 18, 1871 the largest fire Chicago has ever seen broke out. Hundreds died
and thousands of homes were annihilated. Devistation towered over the city, ashes floated
gracefully through the air as bodies, houses and cherished items burned. People ran in fear,
holding their young, crying for the gone, searching for saftey. Searching for life. Searching for
hope. The past few weeks had been hot, dry, and rainless. A drought. Rain had not fallen for
three months. Though, despite the drought, the O Leary family had been having an exceptional

The mayor made a drastic decision to set the prisoners free to keep them safe from the fire as
well. So, they were released into the midst of the burning streets. Albeit, the police thought the
prisoners would run and seek shelter. . . that is quiet the opposite. The prisoners rushed into the
streets and begin smashing windows of abandon buisnesses and homes, looting them of their
goods. Just as everyone thought the fire was dying down and would no longer spread, the wind
picked up, and the fire spread, causing it to head farther northward. Then, something terrible
happened. Fire Devils. Fire Devils are whirls of air which send burning wood and such things
flying through the air, and in this case, across a river. Not good. Everything seemd hopeless.
This was impossible for humans to fix or cure, the fire was too out of control. There was only one
thing that could tame is massive beast; rain. At 11 o clock Monday night the sky began to rain. A
light drizzle at first, but as the night went on, the rain became harder. Things were looking up for
the buring city of Chicago. It continued to rain the rest of Monday night. Finally, in the dim light
of Tuesday, the fire stopped. The fire killed more than 300 people and destroyed more than 17,500
buildings. Two million dollars worth of damage was done. Some buildings that were destroyed

The Life Of Edgar Allan Poe
The Life of Edgar Allan Poe Poets are shameless with their experiences: they exploit them. ―
Friedrich Nietzsche
The life of Edgar Allan Poe s was short and mysterious just like the lives of the heroes of his stories.
And like his fictional heroes, Poe was passionate about painful, strange, gloomy existence of the
human soul. The contradictory and unstable, inclined to extravagant whims and binges, he seemed
to have decided to match the romantic stereotype of the suffering hero, taken prisoner of self
destruction.
Without a doubt, he was a genius: a poet, novelist, critic, and editor, one of the first US
professional writers who were earning money exclusively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Allan was guided by a sense of duty rather than a love to the boy, which has never been legally
adopted. But his wife Frances Allan fell in love with a boy. Thanks to her, little Edgar learned
what is a mother s love, which was missed in his childhood.
Men s relation with women always plays an important role in men s lives. Life of Edgar Allan Poe
was not exclusion. Moreover, it influenced on his works too. For example, the famous poem The
Raven has an image of a woman Lenore. It is difficult to say who was a prototype of the lost
woman for Poe. First woman whom he lost in his life was mother, Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins. It
is better to say which he never really knew. Later Edgar Allan Poe had a deep need to have close
relations with women who could play the role of mother to him. They were Frances Allan, Mrs.
Stanard, the mother of his friend Richard, who became a substitute mother to him; Mrs. Maria
Clemm, his aunt who became his mother in law; her daughter, Virginia, who became his wife
mother ; Mrs. Shew, his physician nurse; Mrs. Whitman, the poetess he tried unsuccessfully to
marry; Mrs. Annie Richmond, the married woman he deeply loved but could not have for a wife;
or Elmira Royster Shelton, former childhood sweetheart (Benton, 1 2).
Poe tried to find the image of the lost mother in all these women during his life, but, as we can
make a conclusion from The Raven poem, he understood it was impossible. Nevermore the Raven
said. We cannot be

The Princess Bride Film Analysis
It is remarkably difficult to narrow down a favorite movie because I have a few, however the
one film that I have already watched numerous times and still plan on watching many more
would have to be The Princess Bride. It is a story based on the book by S. Morgenstern s classic
tale of true love and high adventure abridged with the good parts version by William Goldman
who later translated it to screenplay. The book was actually written as a nonexistent political satire,
however this story is also infused with excerpts from Goldman s fictional life. The filmpreserves
this unique structure to tell a story within a story by using the actors Peter Faulk and Fred Savage
as grandfather and sick grandson, respectively. The Princess Bride uses a variety of techniques from
acting technique, cinematography, narrativestructure, the potential for societal impact, style, genre,
and sound to reveal a satire of the common fairy tale, while simultaneously becoming one of the
most cherished movies for over thirty years.
The illusion of movement is introduced fairly early in the film as the story opens with Buttercup

The Reflection Of The Hippocampus And Memory Function
The Hippocampus and Memory Function
Memory is defined as the the power or process of reproducing or recalling what has been learned
and retained. Memories are created when chemical changes happen in the memory related parts of
the brain. These parts include the cerebral cortex, thalamus, and hippocampus. Learning new things
make pathways in the brain between neurons as a result of the chemical changes occurring. The
pathways are also called memory traces, and when provoked recreate the thoughts that made the
traces.
There are two different types of memory, and three levels of memory depth. One type is motor
memory, also known as muscle memory, which is the recollection of motor skills like walking,
swimming, or playing a sport. Unless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hippocampus is responsible for long term memory, and is also involved with the limbic
system in the brain, which regulates emotions. Emotions and memory go hand in hand, and when
the body is under emotional stress it becomes more alert as a result of the steroid hormones being
produced, and can remember things better and more clearly. This is why frightful or sorrowful
memories are often fleshed out in incredible detail, and are hard to forget. As well as why at a
party somebody might remember the name of the woman who made them laugh, over a woman
who didn t emotionally impact them. Emotional stress is only good in moderation, as prolonged
stress can damage and interfere with the storage of memories.
The hippocampus is is involved with serious mental illnesses, such as severe depression and
schizophrenia, as well as Alzheimer s disease. Alzheimer s attacks the hippocampus first and most
harshly before other parts of the brain, causing confusion and loss of memory, and during severe
depression the hippocampus appears to shrink. The hippocampus shrinkage isn t permanent and can
be reversed with effective treatment.
Back to memory. Memory recall is the ability to activate memory traces to retrieve past
information. Memory recognition is when a person can recognize whether they have seen material
before. Sometimes memory recall falters, and makes someone forget certain parts of information,
and remember parts of others. Examples of faulty recall is when a word is on

young children, teenagers, young adults and parents can all benefit from Sky s programming.
The price of the subscription and the additional services Sky offer, would suggest it is aimed at
middle class families with the latest television and mobile device (iPad, tablet and smartphones).
The price could also discourage anyone under 30, with this market using their disposable income on
entertainment outside of their home, they re unlikely to become a Sky customer when they aren t

Brand Attributes
When customers are comparing Sky to its competitors they must compare specific attributes that
they find most important when selecting a pay TV service. Consumers will attach more value to
some attributes than to others, some consumers will find packaging of a good important, while
others will focus more on the price, or maybe on the brand name (Riezebos. R, 2003).

What is the key to a happy and successful marriage? What is the thing women desire most?
According to Geoffrey Chaucer s character, Alysun also known as the Wife of Bath, without a
woman having complete control over her marriage, the marriage will be unhappy. Being that the
Wife has been married a total of five times, she considers herself an expert on marriage. Her first
four husbands were all older than her, though she used her sexual abilities along with her sharp
mind to manipulate them. Giving them sex anytime they want in exchange for power in their
marriages. In her fifth and final marriage, she marries someone older than her, Jankyn. About this
time, she has lost some of her abilities and realizes that he isn t as easily manipulative as her

she asked for she became a better and more faithful wife to Jankyn, until he died. The wife of Bath
believes and reiterates in her story that the key to a happy marriage is giving a woman complete
control and power over their marriage. In her tale, Alyson tells the pardoner about a young knight.
The knight rapes a young maiden. Alyson at the time using the knight as an example of how

The motivations were various and complex, from trying to advance from social dissipation to trying
to supplement the education that was denied to them as children.
However, as illustrated by eighteenth century French theologian and moralist, Jacques Joseph
Duget, there was a perception of frivolous and licentious salon women in the seventeenth century
corrupting society, particularly by feminizing men. Salons in the eighteenth century had evolved
from this, now trying to revive society through the philosophes Republic of Letters.
The salons were reclaimed from aristocracy and utilized by the philosophes as a space of
collaboration and intellectual exchange, fostering Enlightenment ideas, particularly egalitarianism.
Salons were characterized by the acknowledged equality among the participants as well as the birth

But What Do You Mean By Deborah Tannen Summary
Deborah Tannen and William Lutz both discuss the difficulty of communicating. Their point of
views may be different, but their conclusion is the same. Men and women have difficulties of
communicating. Not because the two genders want to be complicated but simply because we don t
realize how or what we re doing when it s happening.
Talking, it is a form of communication that we as people do because it is our human nature to. AS
humans conversation is a ritual (327), we speak without thinking of other meanings that our words
could mean. We don t think about appropriation, the way others may think, or take other feelings
into account. WE as humans speak to interact because as mentioned earlier Conversation is a ritual
(327). When it comes to talking there is no right way, the way society communicates it can mislead,
distort, inflate, circumvent, obfuscate one another.
In the first excerpt Deborah Tannen wrote But What Do You Mean? , she breaks down and
classifies the conversational areas where men and women have the most difficulties
communication. Tannen s excerpt is written from a personal point of view, it is written within her
daily workplace and based off actions or events she encounters between men and women. Tannen
argues that men tend to be more confrontational when communication and women happen to
approach confrontation in a subtle way. Men are direct and to the point, while women try to
negotiate. In the excerpt Tannen breaks her argument into 7 sperate

Carnivore Research Paper
As these frighten devices might be costly and complicated to implement for some people, there
are other methods to prevent carnivores from preying on livestock. Fladry barriers and electric
fencing are other non lethal method that some people might be in favor to implement due to the
easy manipulation and the lower cost compared to the frighten devices. However, not only
researches have proved that their less effectiveness compared to the frighten devices, but they do
not have multiple roles other than preventing the damage, and still require the extended labor
hours for the maintenance as well as the frighten devices. As an example of less effectiveness

Even though this method has been successful on some case with small to medium size animals
like monkeys, according to Distefano, translocation can cause numerous problems in the case of
carnivores. For example, translocation into areas already occupied by individuals of the same
species can lead to aggression and infanticide and a much higher death rate. There is also going to
be effects on non targeted animals if the translocation is not carefully planned out. It might cause a
secondary problem if problematic carnivores are translocated into an area where other endangered
animals inhabit, and the carnivores are likely to prey on them. In addition, the strategy does not
offer an immediate effect so that it has to be combined with other methods and cannot work solo
(Distefano). Anyone seek this strategy has to find another methods to contain a current depredation.
Therefore, extra cost would be required. Also, this strategy are totally depend on some institutions

Cuba Post-Cold War Analysis
This week s readings followed the perspectives of the United States and Cuba through multiple
transitions of power throughout the mid 20th century and late 21st century. U.S. policies
implemented by the various presidents over this sixty year span were unable to solve previous
hegemonic and interventionist ideologies. On the other hand, Cubapre and post Cold War was a
growing power that gave voice and representation to nations who had been previously colonized
and dominated by bigger superpowers. Cuba wanted to end ties with the United States, a nation who

Cuba no longer had the Soviets support, which had previously been an instrumental part of their
resilience throughout the war. Yet, the United States refused to normalize relations or make amends
with the vulnerable country. Author Jorge I. DomГnguez noted, Cuba repatriated its troops,
stopped its military assistance to insurgencies, and began to conform to a world market economy
(pg. 4). Post Cold War, the United States should have extended its reprieve and apologized for its
years of wrongdoings. Cuba had proven itself as a powerful force, a struggle that they had long
undergone for decades, despite great odds. Instead, the United States devised the Helms Burton Act,
a policy that endured U.S. embargo against Cuba one of many modern lineal descendants of the
Monroe Doctrine and the Roosevelt Corollary (DomГnguez, pg.12). U.S. policymakers and
officials failed to learn from their same mistakes that put the two nations in such a place. To prove
this point again, President Clinton was even considering military intervention in Cuba before
agreeing upon the implementation of the Helms Burton Act. The subsequent presidents after
Dwight Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy seemed to have forgotten the deleterious effects of

Observing William Penn s Photography
I Description
At first glance I notice this Irving Penn photograph seems mysterious and blurry, much like a lot
of his works of art. He uses the blurring technique to make you wonder more in detail what is
going on in the photo. When researching, I found most of his works are portraits unlike Cretan
Landscape. Irving Penn was known as a photographer whose classical simplicity transformed the
pages of Vogue magazine. There are very few great portraitists, but he is a sort of sorcerer who
seems beyond resemblance. Irving Penn s Cretan Landscape was a rather large photograph at
15.4x22in. However, it still showcases the magnificent artwork that Irving Penn is capable of.
When looking at this photograph, I first think that the man on the horse is the main focus, almost
as if he is in charge over everyone else in the picture. I also notice the animals in the back ground
almost like cattle, things like sheep and cows. What I don t understand about this photograph is the
shadows of people behind him. I don t understand their meaning in this picture. I also don t
understand why this photograph s setting is in the deep woods, almost as if they are all hiding
from something. Penn stays in a strict color scheme, using multiple shades of gray staying dark
around the sides and moving to lighter shades in the center spaces. He blends these colors going
through the many prints he used in the platinum metals and then slowly blends the more distinct
colors when the hand coated color

Cancer Cell Comparison
The cell cycle of a normal cell and a cancer cell have many similarities and differences. The main
similarity is that both sets of cells undergo the four phases of the cell cycle: G1, S, G2, M. There
are three checkpoints within the cell cycle that tell the cell to move to the next phase or die, but
cancercancer cells do not obey the checkpoints. During the first phase, G1 phase, normal cells
double in size and the number of organelles double as well. The G1 checkpoint ensures that
proper doubling has occurred and allows cells to move forward to S phase. However, cancer cells
that are too small or have too few organelles will not die. During the second phase, S phase, DNA
replication (an identical copy of all the cell s DNA is made)... Show more content on

Cancers that are associated with environmental risk factors have to do with where they spend
most of their time (usually where they live). Some examples of cancers that can be passed on
genetically are breast and ovarian cancer. The mutated genes of a parent can be inherited by
their children causing them to get the same cancer. BRCA1 and BRCA2 are tumor suppressor
genes that can be mutated to cause breast and ovarian cancers. Some examples of cancers caused
by environmental factors are lung and skin cancer. People who smoke tend to get lung cancer
because when they inhale cigarette smoke and there are chemicals in it that cause cancer.
Radiation, specifically from the sun, can cause skin cancer because it damages the DNA in the
cells, which causes mutations of the cells. According to a surgeon named Sanjiv Haribhakti, only
5 10% of all cancer cases can be attributed to genetic defects, whereas the remaining 90 95% have
their roots in the environment and lifestyle. In other words people are more likely to get cancer due

How Muscular Forces Exerted By The Masticatory Muscles
Muscular forces exerted by the masticatory muscles can influence the success of prosthetic
rehabilitation. Maximum voluntary bite force is an indicator of the functional state of the
masticatory system. The measurement of bite force can provide useful data for the evaluation of
jaw muscle function and activity. Aim: the aim of this study was to find out whether there was a
correlation between Electromyographic activity EMG and bite force in extracoronal attachment
retained distal extension partial denturesor not and is this correlation directly or inversely
proportional. materials and methods: Fourteen patients with mandibular class I Kennedy s
classification were selected Patients received lower skeleton partial dentures designed with a
lingual bar major connector and a resilient extracoronal attachment incorporated between the
abutment and the denture base. EMG recording and biting force of the participants was measured
immediately, after one week, and after one month of denture insertion. Results: revealed a
statistically significant increase in biting force and EMG activity throughout the one month follow
up period Conclusion: A linear positive relation between Electromyographic activity and bite force
measurements was observed in case of extracoronal attachment retained distal extension partial
denture.

Obey the Laws of God, Not the Laws of Man
Obey the Laws of God, Not the Laws of Man
On Monday, April 11th 2011, France became the first country to put into force a law that bans
Muslim women wearing the Burqa in any public setting. Not only did this ban create a global
debate, a domino effect on other countries to put forth the same law, but also creating tension
among French Muslims and their citizens (Ulusoy). The Quran asks believing women to cover
although Muslim women interpret covering their bodies in different ways. The Burqa covers the
entire face and body and has netting surrounding the eyes. The Niqab only varies from the burqa
in that it has an opening in the eye area. Lastly, the most common cover is hijab, which covers the
body yet leaves the face and hands visible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of covering was mentioned another time in the same chapter commanding the Prophet s
wife, as mark of high distinction, to speak from behind a hijab (meaning a curtain). These verses
are very broad and can be interpreted in many ways. The verses don t prove that women need to
cover their faces. France utilized this verse to make it appear as though it is prohibiting something
embedded in culture rather than religion itself. In an article in favor of the ban written by Dr. Qanta
Ahmed (a practicing Muslim) he says, because of the Burqa, Muslim women generate attention,
rather than deflect it the exact opposite of the principle of veiling. They obscure the long forgotten
ideal of Islamic veiling that extends well beyond either clothing or gender, foolishly relegating a
rich philosophy into mere cloth. Also Dr, Qanta Ahmed states, Islammandates modesty of the male
Muslim as much as of the Muslim woman, through conduct, not necessarily specific garment a
principle smothered in today s revival of rote ritualism. This argument is speaking for many others
in favor of this ban. A woman wearing a Burqa may attract attention, but not the kind of attention
the Burqa is trying to avoid. Men are less likely to look at a woman wearing one in a sexual
manner. There are many things that attract attention such as being naked, wearing exposing
clothing, and having hundreds of piercings all over your face, however, that doesn t make it logical
to ban something that

Analysis of Bladerunner Essay

In the science of studying media and communication, there are many different ways of
approaching the subject in which you are going to analyse. That is to analyse advertisements,

According to Todorov (in O Shaugnessy, 1999, p. 107) there is a basic standard to narratives. In
the start of the narrative, there is a stable situation (equilibrium) that is disrupted (disequilibrium)
by a quot;villainous force quot; (Todorov in Taylor, L., amp; Willis, A., 1999, p. 76). This stable
situation is restored in the end of the narrative. Or as O Sullivan et al. says quot;A meets B;
something happens; order returns quot; (O Sullivan et al., 1994, p. 195).
According to Turner quot;most films start by establishing the lines of conflict which will determine
or motivate the events and actions of the story quot;(1988, p.85). The opening sequence of Blade
Runner displays the main conflict. Holden, who is a human interrogator, is killed by the replicant
Leon. These are opposing forces that set the main conflict or the plot of the story.
However, this theory is not too easy to apply to Blade Runner. The movie does not start with what
Todorov calls equilibrium (O Shaughnessey, 1999, p 107). In BR the equilibrium is quite diffuse.
Even though the situation is going to get more unstable throughout the movie, there is a lack of
stability, or plenitude, here. Deckard is in the middle of the chaos existing in Los Angeles in 2019,
in a hostile atmosphere.
The disequilibrium starts when Roy and Leon (two replicants) enter the eye laboratory of the Tyrell
Corporation. It is the first time in the film we encounter the replicants cold and

what the next step? It can only go south from here. No one should struggle to find a place to live

there are many people who end up with a criminal record for a very small incident, maybe an
incident that was not their fault. There are many felons who can post bail and maybe do one day

Compare And Contrast Salt And Saline Soil
4. SALTS CREATE SALINE, SODIC, AND SALINE CONDITION IN SOIL:
Saline soils contain adequate amounts of salts to harm plants growth prominently. It may be
identified by white or light brown crusts on the soil surface. Saline soils usually have an EC of
more than 4 mmho cm 1. Salts that are usually created in saline soils include NaCl (table salt),
CaCl2, gypsum (CaSO4), magnesium sul¬fate, potassium chloride and sodium sulfate.
The pH of saline soils is generally below 8.5. The normal desired range is 6.0 to 7.0, but many

Advertisements have come up with schemes to manipulate just about anybody into buying their

they re making claims when they re basically saying nothing at all. Their technique is to make
the audience believe their products can do exactly what they say they do. They manipulate their

The Economy Of The Norse Peoples
The economy of the Norse peoples settled in Iceland evolved primarily around husbandry of
cattle, pigs, and goats. Livestock provided an array of foodstuffs and wool, which was used to
make cloth, while agriculture was geared more towards pastoral care and dairy farming than the
cultivation of cereal grains due to the cold climates and poor soil. Their grains consisted mainly of
oats and barley, which could be grown during the short growing season. Chieftains and wealthy
individuals also relied upon seafaring trade for valued luxury goods from continental Europe.
Economicswere deeply intertwined with social practices of the time. Kin groups functioned as
economic units. Members of the community often relied upon one another. The Haensa Thorir s
Saga is an example of close knit socioeconomic community struggling to preserve the health of
their pastorally based economy upon the backdrop of a poor harvest as a result of famine.
The Nordic people established extensive trade networks that transverse Europe and lined the
Scandinavian coast. Near the beginning of the story, Г rn, a Norwegian merchant, docked his

the merchants and declared that he always set the prices on goods that were sold there, to which

Disadvantages Of Counterfeit Goods
INTRODUCTION
Counterfeit goods are fake imitations and replicas of products carrying a brand name (Phau Teah,
2009). These goods may include luxury brands from the fashion industry, electronics, software and
pharmaceuticals. Usually these products are of a lower quality as compared to the original.
Companies struggle to protect their goods from being copied since their name, logo, ideas and
designs are copied and sold cheaply in the market. This is unethical and illegal (Chaudhry
Stumpf,2011).
Policy makers of countries have come up with various laws that include heavy fines and
imprisonment for this act. However, these are limited to the supply side of the problem, which
would include the producers, distributers, and marketers of counterfeit goods (Fernandes, 2013).

Some consumers purchase counterfeit luxury brands for their social adjustive function (e.g. to
express themselves and/or to fit in) (Wilcox, Kim Sen, 2009). If the social group the consumer
desires to be a part of, disapproves of such consumption, the perceived social risk involved in the
purchase of counterfeit product reduces consumer intention to purchase counterfeits. Consumers
might refrain from using such goods because they might be afraid of the embarrassment they will
have to face if it is detected that their belonging is not original (Chaudhry Stumpf, 2011). Here, the
consumption or purchase of the counterfeit will cause the individual to lose social capital from
peers or society. When risk is activated consumers are more motivated to avoid negative
consequences than to maximize utility (Mandel, 2003). However, Sinha and Mandel (2008) found
that rising social risks and/or consequences of such utilization may not work for consumers who
have high tolerance for risk (i.e. high optimal stimulation

Analysis Of The Movie Memento We Come Across A Diner...
In Memento we come across a diner scene where we see Teddy trying to help Leonard realize
that living his life day by day based solely on pictures and notes can be problematic. In this scene
Teddy says, Lenny, you can t trust a man s life to your little notes and pictures. Because your notes
could be unreliable. Christopher Nolan directed Mementoin 2000, which is adapted from Memento
Mori written by Jonathan Nolan in 2000. Both Memento and Memento Mori tell a story about a
man who uses photographs and notes to help him remember things as he searches for his wife s
murderer without the use of his long term memory. Christopher Nolan produced a free adaptation of
the shorty story, although the movie itself grasped the general concept it didn t exactly stay true to
the little details presented throughout the short story. One of the ways this is done in the movie is
through Nolan s editing.
Nolan made the movie in reverse chronological order. This was done this way so the audience
could connect more with the character Leonard. For example, in the beginning of Memento we
start off with Leonard holding a photograph in his hand of what looks to be the murder of Teddy,
as he flicks the photo back and fourth the picture slowly fades away turning the photo pitch black,
soon you begin to realize that everything is being reversed and then we switch to a black and

way. Courage can happen any day, any time without anyone even realizing it. People often think
courage is standing up for oneself or helping someone out of home or school, and it can be, but
courage can be as simple as doing something you re afraid to do and then faces your fears and
doing it. Characters like Anne Frank from Diary of Anne Frank, the man from Giving and the boy
from The Porcelain Unicorn.
In Giving the man is a good example of courage because he is thoughtful, kind and selfless. The
man from Giving is courageous because he is thoughtful. He is thoughtful because the little kid
steals medicine for his mother and gets caught so the man steps in and buys the medicine for the
little boy s mom. This is courageous because he buys the medicine for the little boys mother even
though he didn t have to. He did it because this little boy was going to risk getting in trouble for his

Importance Of Political Egalitarianism
Political egalitarianism is the essential principle of any democratic society. All citizens have
equal conditions for participation in political life. However, the reality is that the principle of
political equality of citizens coexists with the social hierarchy that has developed around the socio
professional categories, the level of education and income, classes and etc. Because we consider
democracy as the only right way of governing people it is important to understand what makes
some participate and the others to stay away from the whole process. Income can be one of the
major factors that affects participation and needs to be studied in details. In particular, this work
compares how people with different economic situations participate in the society, specifically
whether they try to help to solve problems in the community if they ask help from government
officials and etc. It also examines other factors like trust in the political system, trust in the election,
and believe that politicians listen to the needs of people. Many studies on different countries have
established that the greater economic status of the individuals corresponds to greater political
participation. Political commitment is quite rigidly subordinates to the following logic: a certain
social and economic position that evokes a sense of social and political competence generates a
certain level of political participation. Understanding political participation presupposes the ability

Multistep Synthesis Lab Report
Multistep Synthesis Of Benzilic Acid From Benzaldehyde Jesus Pena L20326354 Lamar
University CHEM 3112 Spring 2017 April 26th, 2017 Abstract: Benzilic acid is used in many
aspects of industry. These types of industry are the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries.
This process of taking benzaldehyde and using a multistep synthesis procedure makes making
benzilic acid fairly cheap. This is mainly due to the fact that benzaldehyde is a cheap starting
material and is very resourceful. The overall objective of the experiment was to obtain benzilic acid
with the use of the multistep synthesis procedure which consist of a benzoin condensation,
oxidation of benzoin, and a final molecular rearrangement of benzil. This is a fairly long experiment

the 30ml of 95% ethanol and proceeded to put into ice bath. Added the 3M aqueous NaOH
slowly as to not exceed a temperature of 20В°C. Proceeding with the reaction a total of 15.10ml
of benzaldehyde was added and allowed to reflux over the course of an hour. Once reflux was
done mixture was allowed to crystallize and the product, benzoin, was collected with vacuum

second step required taking the weight of benzoin and halving it in order to know the amount of
ammonium nitrate to obtain. So, 3.142 g of ammonium nitrate and 35ml of acetic acid were

opportunities to young people, and offers wonderfully affordable housing. El Paso has many

to most, this is a perfect getaway. El Paso has many hiking trails, biking trails, museums, and
more: a great reason for anyone to escape from today s crazy world. If being away from society
doesn t sound like a great time, El Paso still keeps its mixed cultures and history alive through its
architecture. Bill Crawford states ... [T]he most far out thing about El Paso is its culture, an

Wvsa Case Study
When was the WVSA constructed and how was it modified? The WVSA was built in two phases
around 1967. WVSA went online for primary treatment plant in 1968. In 1988, the WVSA
decided to add the second treatment plant. The modification occurred when the second treatment
plant was built. The second treatment plant allowed the removal of organic matter to reach 97%.
What is the source of the sewage and from what communities does it originate? The source is a
combination of sanitary and storm sewages; majority of the combined sewage water comes from
the Wilkes Barre area. In addition, other communities that contribute to the sewage water source
are places like Dallas PA, Lehman township, Hanover township, and more. How does the sewage
arrive at the WVSA? Sewage arrives at the WVSA by pumping all the waste water from the
combined/ storm sewers and collecting it in the wet well then transferred to the influent pumps.
Another place the sewage can arrive at WVSA is from other places who decided not to upgrade
like, Lehman Township, that has the WVSA treat their waste for them instead. Describe the
treatment process in detail. The treatment process is broken into four treatment trains in the
secondary plant, which are viewed as four different treatment plants... Show more content on

Negative Affects Of Helicopter Parents
Negative Affects of Helicopter Parents in Youth Sport Throughout my whole life all I could
really remember is playing sports and always playing them very competitively, and having my
parents very involved. There was a lot of pressure put on me from a young age, all the way up
into even now playing college football. I was raised with helicopter parents rather than the laid
back parents. The best moments I can remember is just throwing the football around and playing
small games in the neighborhood, no pressure just simply playing because I want to. Unnecessary
pressure on sport from parents and what style of parentingis something I have put a lot of time and
effort into studying. Putting to much pressure on your kids in sport could lead to; physiological
affects, bad relationship with the parents, eating disorders, burnout of sports all together, kid not
reaching his/her full potential, being a helicopter parentleads to children being afraid to voice their
opinion, or afraid to fail, or even act as who they are and not what there parents want them to be.
While there is know perfect way to be a parent while your child is playing youth sports, the majority
of parents in my generation are putting to much pressure on their children and being helicopter
parents, which could lead to many negative consequences. There are many interpretations of what a
helicopter parentis, one of my favorites comes from authors Foster W. Cline and Jim Fay from their

The Origins Of Yoga And The Second School Being Hatha Yoga
In 1893, a man by the name of Vivekananda came to speak at the Parliament of Religions in
Chicago. He captivated his audience with the exotic Indian practice of Yoga. His message
permeated throughout the United States while capturing the minds of brilliant Americans such as
Gertrude Stein. Vivekananda as well as the Doctrine of Yoga
were a sensation, but what has become
of the mystical practice known as yoga. In this paper I will discuss the origins of yoga in the
West, various schools of thought associated with yoga and with a focus on two in particular: the

The young monk made a profound impression on the people who attended the speech. His speech
left people spellbound and enchanted. He was able to simplify Vedanta thought in such way that
it was more digestible for westerners and more importantly he conveyed the idea that all souls
were inherently divine. His mantra was relatable to American, work and worship. Vivekananda
became a star overnight. He proceeded to tour the country to further the doctrine of yoga across
the nation. Yet the yoga we see across our country is very different from the yogic tradition
Vivekananda was teaching. In fact Vivekananda had an absolute lack of interest in the physical
aspect of yoga we see today in our society. His goal in America was to help Americans realize
God. He was considered the first missionary from the east to the west and it was his goal to help
Americans rid themselves of this American individualism. He wanted to rise above the western
perception of the east being this exotic and magical place and to deliver truth to people. He felt
very strongly about his proselytization. He was quoted saying, I have a message to the West as
Buddha had a message to the East. That being said Vivekananda was a man of this world. He had
reportedly been seen smoking and eating meat, so this man was far from perfect. Yet nevertheless
this man had quite the following. In fact Leo Tolstoy was very

  • 2. I Ve Got The Light Of Freedom Analysis That said, we should not forget that leadership and empowerment often strongly depend on mobilization. The fact that national leaders existed served to create role models that engendered a sense of unity and communality. As the media were very selective when it came to the coverage of local struggles, the attention that leaders like Martin Luther King and others received was important to force the real and imaginative ties that invigorated the struggles on the local level. Therefore, Payne s critique entails different layers. First, it is clearly a criticism of a scholarship that selectively focuses on famous leaders and the most dramatic events. As such, it is a critique of a historical narrative that provides only a glimpse of what the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, it is understandable that movement scholars tend to write from a rather activist stance. There is nothing wrong with this per se, however, as historians, we should critically assess in how far this positioning might limit our scholarship. At times, Payne tends to overemphasize the unity and the solidarity among the organizers and the local population and fails to mention the tensions among direct democratic groups like SNCC. Every social movement is made up of people, united under what they perceive as an urgent need to bring about change. This unity tends to suppress theoretical and practical differences for some time and can thus create a tremendous amount of communality and solidarity among its members. However, as history has shown over and over again, as soon as the external threat either diminishes or proves resistant to change, movements tend to disunite. This is what Baker and other activists wanted to prevent by modeling their training around local long term strategies and individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, many fail to notice that no one could own both the title king and the hero at the same time; they need to give up either one of the titles to become a truly successful hero or king. In the famous epic poem, Beowulf, despite Hrothgar rules Danes, another hero, Beowulf, shows up to solve Danes problem while the true Danes king sits on his throne and simply gives all honor and credit to Beowulf. While Beowulf has not defeated Grendel yet, Hrothgar warmly welcomes Beowulf and makes him as comfortable as possible to prepare his fight with Grendel, because Hrothgar understands clearly that without Beowulf s help, he cannot protect his people. Continuing, even though he did not defeat Grendel by himself, Hrothgar demonstrates the wisdom a king needs to rule his kingdom. At the arrival of Beowulf s troops, Hrothgar knew distinctly that he needed to gain their loyalty in order to let Beowulf fight Grendel, so he generously gave plenty of drinks and he even brought out his own wife to please them, ...the Helming woman went on her rounds, / queenly and dignified, decked out in rings, / offering the goblet to all ranks, (620 622). Hrothgar utilizes his tactful mind to gain these warriors trust, even though he could not fight anymore like Beowulf, the Danes king s wisdom remains and makes him qualify as a king. Furthermore, Hrothgar gives advice to Beowulf, which reveals the insight Hrothgar has and the great worldview he yields. He says to Beowulf, ...beware of that trap. / Choose, dear Beowulf, the better part, / Eternal rewards. Do not give way to pride. (1758 1760). In these lines, Hrothgar warns Beowulf about the danger pride wields, which can infiltrate the strongest warrior; he pointed out the most dangerous trap, which people in that time period ignored easily when they become a leader. People ran in fear, holding their young, crying for the gone, searching for saftey. Searching for life. Searching for hope. The past few weeks had been hot, dry, and rainless. A drought. Rain had not fallen for three months. Though, despite the drought, the O Leary family had been having an exceptional October. The O Leary family consisted of Mrs. O Leary, her husband and 5 children. The prisoners rushed into the streets and begin smashing windows of abandon buisnesses and homes, looting them of their goods. Just as everyone thought the fire was dying down and would no longer spread, the wind picked up, and the fire spread, causing it to head farther northward. Then, something terrible happened. Fire Devils. Fire Devils are whirls of air which send burning wood and such things flying through the air, and in this case, across a river. Not good. Everything seemd hopeless. • 10. The Life Of Edgar Allan Poe The Life of Edgar Allan Poe Poets are shameless with their experiences: they exploit them. ― Friedrich Nietzsche The life of Edgar Allan Poe s was short and mysterious just like the lives of the heroes of his stories. And like his fictional heroes, Poe was passionate about painful, strange, gloomy existence of the human soul. The contradictory and unstable, inclined to extravagant whims and binges, he seemed to have decided to match the romantic stereotype of the suffering hero, taken prisoner of self destruction. Life of Edgar Allan Poe was not exclusion. Moreover, it influenced on his works too. For example, the famous poem The Raven has an image of a woman Lenore. It is difficult to say who was a prototype of the lost woman for Poe. First woman whom he lost in his life was mother, Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins. It is better to say which he never really knew. Later Edgar Allan Poe had a deep need to have close relations with women who could play the role of mother to him. They were Frances Allan, Mrs. Stanard, the mother of his friend Richard, who became a substitute mother to him; Mrs. Maria Clemm, his aunt who became his mother in law; her daughter, Virginia, who became his wife mother ; Mrs. Shew, his physician nurse; Mrs. Whitman, the poetess he tried unsuccessfully to marry; Mrs. Annie Richmond, the married woman he deeply loved but could not have for a wife; or Elmira Royster Shelton, former childhood sweetheart (Benton, 1 2). • 11. The Princess Bride Film Analysis It is remarkably difficult to narrow down a favorite movie because I have a few, however the one film that I have already watched numerous times and still plan on watching many more would have to be The Princess Bride. It is a story based on the book by S. Morgenstern s classic tale of true love and high adventure abridged with the good parts version by William Goldman who later translated it to screenplay. The book was actually written as a nonexistent political satire, however this story is also infused with excerpts from Goldman s fictional life. The filmpreserves this unique structure to tell a story within a story by using the actors Peter Faulk and Fred Savage as grandfather and sick grandson, respectively. The Princess Bride uses a variety of techniques from acting technique, cinematography, narrativestructure, the potential for societal impact, style, genre, and sound to reveal a satire of the common fairy tale, while simultaneously becoming one of the most cherished movies for over thirty years. • 12. The Reflection Of The Hippocampus And Memory Function The Hippocampus and Memory Function Memory is defined as the the power or process of reproducing or recalling what has been learned and retained. Memories are created when chemical changes happen in the memory related parts of the brain. These parts include the cerebral cortex, thalamus, and hippocampus. Learning new things make pathways in the brain between neurons as a result of the chemical changes occurring. The pathways are also called memory traces, and when provoked recreate the thoughts that made the traces. There are two different types of memory, and three levels of memory depth. One type is motor memory, also known as muscle memory, which is the recollection of motor skills like walking, swimming, or playing a sport. Unless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hippocampus is responsible for long term memory, and is also involved with the limbic system in the brain, which regulates emotions. Emotions and memory go hand in hand, and when the body is under emotional stress it becomes more alert as a result of the steroid hormones being produced, and can remember things better and more clearly. This is why frightful or sorrowful memories are often fleshed out in incredible detail, and are hard to forget. As well as why at a party somebody might remember the name of the woman who made them laugh, over a woman who didn t emotionally impact them. Emotional stress is only good in moderation, as prolonged stress can damage and interfere with the storage of memories. The hippocampus is is involved with serious mental illnesses, such as severe depression and schizophrenia, as well as Alzheimer s disease. Alzheimer s attacks the hippocampus first and most harshly before other parts of the brain, causing confusion and loss of memory, and during severe depression the hippocampus appears to shrink. The hippocampus shrinkage isn t permanent and can be reversed with effective treatment. Back to memory. Memory recall is the ability to activate memory traces to retrieve past information. Memory recognition is when a person can recognize whether they have seen material before. France utilized this verse to make it appear as though it is prohibiting something embedded in culture rather than religion itself. In an article in favor of the ban written by Dr. Qanta Ahmed (a practicing Muslim) he says, because of the Burqa, Muslim women generate attention, rather than deflect it the exact opposite of the principle of veiling. They obscure the long forgotten ideal of Islamic veiling that extends well beyond either clothing or gender, foolishly relegating a rich philosophy into mere cloth. Also Dr, Qanta Ahmed states, Islammandates modesty of the male Muslim as much as of the Muslim woman, through conduct, not necessarily specific garment a principle smothered in today s revival of rote ritualism. This argument is speaking for many others in favor of this ban. A woman wearing a Burqa may attract attention, but not the kind of attention the Burqa is trying to avoid. Men are less likely to look at a woman wearing one in a sexual manner. There are many things that attract attention such as being naked, wearing exposing clothing, and having hundreds of piercings all over your face, however, that doesn t make it logical to ban something that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Todorov (in O Shaugnessy, 1999, p. 107) there is a basic standard to narratives. In the start of the narrative, there is a stable situation (equilibrium) that is disrupted (disequilibrium) by a quot;villainous force quot; (Todorov in Taylor, L., amp; Willis, A., 1999, p. 76). This stable situation is restored in the end of the narrative. Or as O Sullivan et al. says quot;A meets B; something happens; order returns quot; (O Sullivan et al., 1994, p. 195). According to Turner quot;most films start by establishing the lines of conflict which will determine or motivate the events and actions of the story quot;(1988, p.85). The opening sequence of Blade Runner displays the main conflict. Holden, who is a human interrogator, is killed by the replicant Leon. These are opposing forces that set the main conflict or the plot of the story. However, this theory is not too easy to apply to Blade Runner. The movie does not start with what Todorov calls equilibrium (O Shaughnessey, 1999, p 107). In BR the equilibrium is quite diffuse. Even though the situation is going to get more unstable throughout the movie, there is a lack of stability, or plenitude, here. Deckard is in the middle of the chaos existing in Los Angeles in 2019, in a hostile atmosphere. The disequilibrium starts when Roy and Leon (two replicants) enter the eye laboratory of the Tyrell Corporation. It is the first time in the film we encounter the replicants cold and ... However, there are many people who end up with a criminal record for a very small incident, maybe an incident that was not their fault. There are many felons who can post bail and maybe do one day in jail. If you can post bail in one day I m sure your crime was not life threatening. These goods may include luxury brands from the fashion industry, electronics, software and pharmaceuticals. Usually these products are of a lower quality as compared to the original. Companies struggle to protect their goods from being copied since their name, logo, ideas and designs are copied and sold cheaply in the market. This is unethical and illegal (Chaudhry Stumpf,2011). Policy makers of countries have come up with various laws that include heavy fines and imprisonment for this act. However, these are limited to the supply side of the problem, which would include the producers, distributers, and marketers of counterfeit goods (Fernandes, 2013). In Memento we come across a diner scene where we see Teddy trying to help Leonard realize that living his life day by day based solely on pictures and notes can be problematic. In this scene Teddy says, Lenny, you can t trust a man s life to your little notes and pictures. Because your notes could be unreliable. Christopher Nolan directed Mementoin 2000, which is adapted from Memento Mori written by Jonathan Nolan in 2000. Both Memento and Memento Mori tell a story about a man who uses photographs and notes to help him remember things as he searches for his wife s murderer without the use of his long term memory. Christopher Nolan produced a free adaptation of the shorty story, although the movie itself grasped the general concept it didn t exactly stay true to the little details presented throughout the short story. One of the ways this is done in the movie is through Nolan s editing. Nolan made the movie in reverse chronological order. This was done this way so the audience could connect more with the character Leonard. For example, in the beginning of Memento we start off with Leonard holding a photograph in his hand of what looks to be the murder of Teddy, as he flicks the photo back and fourth the picture slowly fades away turning the photo pitch black, soon you begin to realize that everything is being reversed and then we switch to a black and white scene of Leonard going over how he got in a motel room. However, the reality is that the principle of political equality of citizens coexists with the social hierarchy that has developed around the socio professional categories, the level of education and income, classes and etc. Because we consider democracy as the only right way of governing people it is important to understand what makes some participate and the others to stay away from the whole process. Income can be one of the major factors that affects participation and needs to be studied in details. In particular, this work compares how people with different economic situations participate in the society, specifically whether they try to help to solve problems in the community if they ask help from government officials and etc. It also examines other factors like trust in the political system, trust in the election, and believe that politicians listen to the needs of people. In 1988, the WVSA decided to add the second treatment plant. The modification occurred when the second treatment plant was built. The second treatment plant allowed the removal of organic matter to reach 97%. What is the source of the sewage and from what communities does it originate? The source is a combination of sanitary and storm sewages; majority of the combined sewage water comes from the Wilkes Barre area. In addition, other communities that contribute to the sewage water source are places like Dallas PA, Lehman township, Hanover township, and more. How does the sewage arrive at the WVSA? Sewage arrives at the WVSA by pumping all the waste water from the combined/ storm sewers and collecting it in the wet well then transferred to the influent pumps. Another place the sewage can arrive at WVSA is from other places who decided not to upgrade like, Lehman Township, that has the WVSA treat their waste for them instead. Describe the treatment process in detail. The treatment process is broken into four treatment trains in the secondary plant, which are viewed as four different treatment plants... Instead of doing the expensive upgrade, the WSVA decided to fix the problems in house by using biological nitrate removal. The biological nitrate removal cost WSVA 400 thousand dollars which was paid by fundraising. Any other upgrades or advances to the biological removal would be paid by fundraising, complete funds from the WSVA, or the state would give WSVA half of the money while WSVA would pay the ... • 50. Negative Affects Of Helicopter Parents Negative Affects of Helicopter Parents in Youth Sport Throughout my whole life all I could really remember is playing sports and always playing them very competitively, and having my parents very involved. There was a lot of pressure put on me from a young age, all the way up into even now playing college football. I was raised with helicopter parents rather than the laid back parents. The best moments I can remember is just throwing the football around and playing small games in the neighborhood, no pressure just simply playing because I want to. Unnecessary pressure on sport from parents and what style of parentingis something I have put a lot of time and effort into studying. Putting to much pressure on your kids in sport could lead to; physiological affects, bad relationship with the parents, eating disorders, burnout of sports all together, kid not reaching his/her full potential, being a helicopter parentleads to children being afraid to voice their opinion, or afraid to fail, or even act as who they are and not what there parents want them to be. While there is know perfect way to be a parent while your child is playing youth sports, the majority of parents in my generation are putting to much pressure on their children and being helicopter parents, which could lead to many negative consequences. There are many interpretations of what a helicopter parentis, one of my favorites comes from authors Foster W. Cline and Jim Fay from their book Parenting With ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He captivated his audience with the exotic Indian practice of Yoga. His message permeated throughout the United States while capturing the minds of brilliant Americans such as Gertrude Stein. Vivekananda as well as the Doctrine of Yoga were a sensation, but what has become of the mystical practice known as yoga. In this paper I will discuss the origins of yoga in the West, various schools of thought associated with yoga and with a focus on two in particular: the first being Raja yoga (royal yoga) and the second school being Hatha yoga. Dr. John Renard illustrates the relation between these to schools concisely and effectively in The Handy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The young monk made a profound impression on the people who attended the speech. His speech left people spellbound and enchanted. He was able to simplify Vedanta thought in such way that it was more digestible for westerners and more importantly he conveyed the idea that all souls were inherently divine. His mantra was relatable to American, work and worship. Vivekananda became a star overnight. He proceeded to tour the country to further the doctrine of yoga across the nation. Yet the yoga we see across our country is very different from the yogic tradition Vivekananda was teaching. In fact Vivekananda had an absolute lack of interest in the physical aspect of yoga we see today in our society. His goal in America was to help Americans realize God. He was considered the first missionary from the east to the west and it was his goal to help Americans rid themselves of this American individualism. He wanted to rise above the western perception of the east being this exotic and magical place and to deliver truth to people. He felt very strongly about his proselytization. He was quoted saying, I have a message to the West as Buddha had a message to the East. That being said Vivekananda was a man of this world. He had reportedly been seen smoking and eating meat, so this man was far from perfect. Yet nevertheless this man had quite the following. In fact Leo Tolstoy was very ... From 1400 1778, Hawaiians had no contact with the outside world, since there was no contact with the outside world the culture thrived. In 1778 Capitan James Cookrediscovered the island and named the islands, Sandwich Islands. Not only did Capitan Cook rename the island, he brought with him disease that started to decimate the Hawaiian population (Encyclopedia of World Biography, 2014). Captain Cook was first regarded to as a God and on February 14, 1779 he was stabbed to death in a fight with some of the locals (Encyclopedia of World Biography, 2014).
