The Open Textbook Network works to help faculty and institutions overcome barriers to adopting open textbooks. It conducts faculty workshops to increase awareness of open textbooks and addresses concerns about their quality. The workshops have led to a 39% adoption rate of open textbooks on average among attendees. The network also aims to develop best practices around open textbook adoption through collaborations between member institutions.

An audit at Flagler College found evidence of data manipulation involving student test scores and course placements going back many years. The audit traced the changes to a single individual. An investigation revealed over 200 students were misplaced in courses due to fraudulent test score data. The college responded with transparency, notifying stakeholders and conducting a thorough review of student records and placements. The data fraud highlighted the need for policy changes and limitations on individual access to student information systems. While challenging, the college views the situation as an opportunity for positive change and process improvements.

This document discusses MOOCs in European higher education and the challenges they present. It begins with an introduction of the presenters and their backgrounds working with open education resources. It then outlines the agenda which includes strategies European institutions are taking with MOOCs, challenges they face, and issues around credentialing and recognition of MOOC learning. How e-Assessment Can Bring Significant Added Value to Maths Lessons
This document discusses how e-assessment using the SCHOLAR program can enhance math lessons. SCHOLAR allows for visual introductions of topics, classroom interaction through interactive whiteboard activities, and independent student investigation with immediate feedback. It also enables individualized assessment where students can progress at their own pace. SCHOLAR provides 24/7 access to material, immediate feedback and support, and tracking of student progress. Teachers reported students becoming more confident, effective learners through the use of this program.
Getting Ready for the New SAT for Parents

The College Board hosted a webinar to share information about the SAT, how to prepare for free on Khan Academy, and how colleges are using SAT test scores for college admission. Should feedback be at the centre of Personalised Learning?
The advent of e-Learning has prompted the development of web-based learning systems, recognising there is no fixed learning pathway that will be appropriate for all learners. However, most learning platforms with personalised learning sequencing rely on a learner’s preferences.
However if we want students to be able to learn to make reliable judgements about their learning and to identify any further support they require to meet their learning goals, then personalised automatic feedback should play an important role. This presentation explores the role that technology enhanced feedback can play in the pursuit of a personalised learning agenda.

Usefulness of new imaging techniques
Ventricular arrhythmias can originate from complex substrates involving scar tissue. New imaging techniques like intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) and contrast-enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance (ce-CMR) can help identify these substrates and guide ablation. CE-CMR can characterize scar tissue, quantify fibrosis, and identify conduction channels within scars. ICE allows visualization of catheter position and ablation lesions. Together these techniques aim to improve ablation outcomes by enabling better identification of arrhythmogenic substrates compared to conventional mapping alone.

Ventricular arrhythmias can originate from complex substrates involving scar tissue. New imaging techniques like intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) and contrast-enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance (ce-CMR) can help identify these substrates and guide ablation. Recent research conducted by the OER Research Hub indicates that nearly 60% of community college faculty choose OER and open textbooks based on the reputation of the institution or recommendations from trusted colleagues. Join us on Wed, February 5, at 11:00 am (PT), 2:00 pm (ET) to hear about three high-quality open textbook publishing initiatives, one through the State University of New York (SUNY), another through OpenStax College at Rice University, and finally one at the University of Minnesota. Cyril Oberlander, Director of Library Services at SUNY Geneseo heads up the SUNY Open Textbook initiative which publishes high-quality, cost-effective course resources by engaging faculty as authors and peer-reviewers, and libraries as a publishing service and infrastructure. They have released three open textbooks this last fall in their planned series of fifteen open textbooks in various disciplines.
David Harris, Editor-in-chief OpenStax College at Rice University’s Connexions project. OpenStax College is a nonprofit organization committed to improving student access to quality learning materials. Their free textbooks are developed and peer-reviewed by educators to ensure they are readable, accurate, and meet the scope and sequence requirements of college courses. Their first six books released over the last two years are focused on general education courses and are gaining adoptions.

The Open Textbook Network: libraries working together to advance open textbooks
Over the last three years, the Open Textbook Library, now hosting upwards of 175 complete open textbook titles, has built these titles’ credibility and increased faculty exposure to open textbooks by incentivizing textbook reviews by faculty from institutions across the country. Libraries have been at the core of our outreach and are our most integral partners in reaching faculty and building capacity on campuses for open textbooks. At the invitation of our partner libraries, we’ve visited dozens of schools to seed and support their open education programs. As a result, our partner institutions’ data shows that over 40% of their faculty attendees to our workshops adopt an open textbook. This small pilot group of faculty has saved students over $410,000 in textbook costs in less than three years.
This presentation will introduce attendees to the Open Textbook Network - a consortium of institutions working to help faculty overcome barriers to adoption of open textbooks, increase institutional capacity to support faculty adoption and use of open textbooks, and collaboratively develop new understandings and best practices of open textbook adoption and use. Attendees will learn more about what’s to come for the Open Textbook Library, our partners, our data, and why open textbooks are a sustainable avenue towards initiating and sustaining open education programming.

Abstract: Publishing opportunities for undergraduate students continue to grow, particularly in university-hosted, student-led open access journals. The MacEwan University Student eJournal (MUSe) is a recent initiative that involves undergraduate students from across disciplines at every level of the publication process, from solicitation of submissions through to blind peer-review, and dissemination. These students are each actively involved with faculty mentors, affording them the opportunity to work alongside experienced academics while gaining insight and knowledge about the ways in which scholarly and creative publications are managed.
Drawing on the experiences of those involved with MUSe, along with related efforts of other undergraduate research publications, this poster describes in detail ways that journal managers can work to ensure meaningful and sustainable faculty engagement in student journals. This includes best practices for recruiting faculty mentors, and effective means of providing necessary support to ensure a worthwhile and engaging experience for faculty and students alike during every stage of the publishing process.
