Correlational Method
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the correlational method as a means for examining the
relationship between functions of the left and right hemispheres. I will compare the performance
of people with intact brains with the performance of so called split brain patients. In many ways,
the brains of these two groups are very similar. 1a. The location of the brainstem in the normal brain
is near the lower back of the brain, where the cerebrumand spinal cord connect. The brainstem is
separated into three parts. One is the midbrain, which regulates temperature, and is a part of vision,
hearing, motor movement, sleep cycles, and alertness. Next is the pons, which controls sleep,
respiration, the bladder, hearing, taste, posture, and facial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, future investigations may need to adopt techniques that improve upon those used here.
5a. Since brain function is lateralized between the two hemispheres of the brain, normal patients
should display a greater relationship between functions usually occurring in the left hemisphere and
those performed by the right hemisphere. So in split brain patients, the relationship between
hemispheres performing tasks that require to different hemispheres of the brain would be much
weaker. The correlational analysis is consistent with the hypothesis because the correlation
coefficients for normal brain patients are much higher than the correlation coefficient coefficients
for split brain patients when each group performed tasks that required two different hemispheres of
the brain. 5b. All the results readily fit the hypothesis. 5c. To improve the correlational study, a
researcher should increase the sample size and include more tasks, such as mathematical
calculations, reading skills, and creativity, to further test each hemisphere in the brain for both
types of patients. 5d. Correlational studies should not be used to test hypotheses because they
cannot verify whether or not one variable causes another. Correlation is not the same as causation,
since the results have a likelihood to be due to chance. Experiments allow us to manipulate and
isolate variables to ensure causation. 5e. Another experiment that can be used to test our hypotheses
would be to take four cognitive tests such as math problems, family facial recognition, music
recognition, and a reading test first covering the left eye and then the right eye for a group of
normal patients and split brain patients to test their abilities. I think the normal patients will do far
better in all the tests than the split brain

Art And Sports In American Culture
How should art and sports contribute to the good life of an American citizen? How should we
value art and sports in our culture? What is the real purpose of arts and physical education? How
does art and sports take part in my culture? How should we, as a culture value sports and art? We
should value art and sport more as part of our culture. Dr. Dana Gioia in his 2007
Commencement address to Stanford University states, The role of the culture, however, must go
beyond economics. It is not focused on the price of things, but on their value. And, above all,
culture should tell us what is beyond pride, including what does not belong in the market. A
culture should also provide some cogent view of the good life beyond mass accumulation.
There is a difference between cost and value. 2 people could have the same object with the same
cost but could value that object differently. For example, one person could purchase a painting
for $500, another person could receive that same painting with the same cost from a close
relative. The person that paid $500 would value it as an expensive item, and the person who
received the painting from a close relative would value it as something they would cherish
because it was given to them as a gift. Same thing with sports, someone could be in a seeing that it
is something that they take pride in and another person could take participate in a sport because
their parents did it or their parents want them to do it. Two people can have the

Fairy Tale Analysis
Cinderella, We Know Thee Near and Far
Triumphant reward in spite of unjust punishment is a universal sentiment that transcends
languages and cultures. There are thousands of folktales and fairy tales that are firmly rooted in
individual cultures, yet the tale of Cinderella has been told through many centuries and
throughout the far corners of the world. With thousands of versions of this classic tale in print
worldwide, the tale is believed to have originated with the story of Rhodopis, a Greek slave girl
who is married to an Egyptian King. The story of Rhodopis, which means rosy cheeks, dates back
to 7 BC and is attributed to a Greek geographer named Strabo. The Chinese variation of this fairy
tale is named Yeh hsien. The Chinese version is traceable to the year 860 and appears in
Miscellaneous Morsels from Youyang by Duan Chengshi. Yeh hsien is a young girl, motherless
and in the control of her stepmother, who befriends a treasured fish. The jealous step mother
kills the fish, but it s bones provide Yeh hsien with magical powers, eventually enabling Yeh
hsien to escape the control of her step mother for a royal life. The Story of the Black Cow which
is found within the pages of Folk Tales from the Himalayas by John Murray, published in 1906,
the child who is mistreated by a stepmother is a male and the role of savior is portrayed by a
snake, with a cow serving as the moral of the story, faithfulness. These two versions of Cinderella

Character Development In A White Heron
Many times adults will look back on their childhood to remember the great adventures they had or
even the adventures they wished they had as a child. When looking back on those adventures one
can see where at the time they were great and wonderful, often recalling in vivid detail the
winning of a battle, finding a treasure or climbing an impossibly large mountain. These adventures
can shape who and what adults become. In the story A White Heron the author Sarah Orne Jewett
the perspective of the child is used to give the reader an insight once again into the world of
adventure that children have. Once again the adult can relive an adventure and see the shaping of a
girl into a young woman takes place. This shaping takes place through the... Show more content on

She takes things as they are and does not see the bad in the world. As Sylvia is walking along
she recalls her move to the country. Her thoughts bring her to remember the great red faced boy
who used to chase and frighten her . On the tail end of this thought she suddenly hears the
whistle of a boy, one that she has not heard before in the woods. She is very frightened over this,
as if her thoughts had conjured up the mean little boy. As she tries to hide a stranger with a gun
approaches her, one can almost feel the ominous feeling that something bad is going to happen.
One can see that the stranger is kind, but the carrying of the gun gives that hint of danger. The
danger is reveled later when the stranger is told of Sylvia s knowledge of the birds and other
animals. Instead of enjoying natures creatures in their natural habitat the stranger shoots them and
then they re stuffed and preserved, dozens and dozens of them, (Jewett, pg #}. The stranger talks
of the white heron as if it were his Holy Grail . Having the white heron would be the best trophy of
all time, so much so that he is willing to pay a fortune to know where its nest is. This is very
tempting for Sylvia. She struggles with giving an answer as to where the stranger could find the
white heron. It is an internal battle that everyone faces at one time or another. Sylvia follows the
stranger the next day, foreign feelings filling her mind, Sylvia still watched the young man with
loving admiration (Jewett 42). Sylvia is awakening from a young girl to the brink of a young
woman, she starts to feel love blossom. One can see the internal turmoil going through Sylvia s
mind. She grieved because the longed for white heron was elusive but inside she is also happy and
blames this on the fact that she did not lead followed (Jewett, pg

Jonathan Romney s Access All Areas
In the article, Access All Areas: The Real Space of Rock Documentary by Jonathan Romney, he
mainly focuses on the idea of backstage or behind the current and how it comes into play in rock
documentaries. He argues his points that the backstage of a concert is not a sacred place for
celebrities on and off the screen of a rock documentary, backstage is not a real home, and rock
documentaries are full of unauthentic and clichГ© scenes. The documentaries show the star on
stage captivating the crowd with their show and onstage antics then show a shot of them coming
off stage and the viewers can supposedly watch the mask lift off and the star s true self is
revealed. Romney makes a reference to Wizard Of Oz when the curtain is lifted and the true... Show

Romney emphasizes the documentaries try to convey that the star s offstage self is their purest
achievement because producing music, making videos, and playing shows is not enough to
satisfy the fans. The star is seen as more than a performer, they are seen as an icon or a force that
manifests itself and when the star is on stage performing and not their authentic self, it leaves the
viewers confused with the different personalities. Romney mentions David Bowie and Madonna
to be two of the most transparent celebrities but when they started acting, the several
personalities overshadowed their true selves. Backstage is not an artist s space; it will never
take the shape of a home or a place of comfort. The artist s environment is constantly changing
and backstage is the closest they will get to have their own space and feel some sense of control
over it and assert dominance on anyone who invades it. Romney mentions in Madonna s Truth or
Dare In Bed with Madonna where she denied the cameraman access to her trailer early on in the
film to show who is boss and ultimately runs the

Causes And Effect Of The Debt Crisis Essay
What is the European Debt Crisis? The European Debt Crisis is the failure of the Euro, a currency
that ties seventeen European countries together. In this paper, I will be describing the cause and
effect of the debt crisis along with what would happen if the European Union stayed with the
economy they have. Then what I believe is the best solution to fixing the debtcrisis.
Causes
Formation of European Union
Adoption of the Euro
Increasing Debts
Large Amounts of Borrowing
High Interest Rates
Large Government spending
High Taxes
Paying Debts with Barrowed Money
Monetary Inflexibility
Greece on the brink of defaulting
There are many causes for the debt crisis to start. Before world war II Europe had very strict trade
barriers between countries examples being currency exchange fees and trade tariffs. Then World
War II happened and was so detrimental to Europe they couldn t continue to have such strict trade
barriers. The barriers were then slowly removed with the first barrier removal being steel and coal.
This worked well enough that it caused twenty seven countries to sign the Maastricht Treaty thus
forming the European Union (UN). This made trading throughout all Europe easier which caused
more trade to occur within Europe.
In 1999 seventeen countries in the European Union adopted the Euro forming a Euro Area. With
the adoption of the Euro these seventeen countries discontinued their old currencies and monetary
policies. Monetary Policies

The typical weather patterns began appearing in the fall, things such as monsoons. Some of his
men were anxious to get home. They were fed up with the war. Then, the radio came on. Two men
were killed and three were wounded in a patrol outside of Danang. One of the men, first lieutenant

one of the Marines helicopter bases, which damaged or destroyed over fourty aircraft. The weather
was gloomy. The attitudes of the men, according to Caputo, began to match the weather, (227). The

Gibson (2010) also frames polygamy in the context of women struggles and not being able to
control their own lives. Gibson gives his opinion on polygamy and how it violates the Christian
family. Gibson (2010) argues that polygamy came about because of systematic patriarchy. Gibson
gives information on Anderson Cooper s television special Polygamyin America, Cult or Calling?
which discusses the capture of polygamist leader Warren Jeffs. Gibson (2010) explains how
America s recent fascination with polygamy only covers one aspect of it referring to the main
coverage of modern day Mormon polygamy. The researcher also gives information on the change
of polygamous relationships over time. Gibson (2010) reflects that in modern day polygamous
marriages people are able to pick their spouses. Women are actually enjoying being in a
polygamous marriage instead of being forced into it.
Simpson (2007) elaborates on the culture and faith of most polygamous. The author states that the
history of Mormonism has involved to highly complex contacts and negotiations with non
Mormons in their attempts to convert, resist, or appease outsiders. Mormons have engaged in a
distinctive dialectic of secrecy and self disclosure. (p.11) In some cases, Simpson (2007) suggests
Mormons feel they are being forced to be modernized. Non Mormons in the Utah territory and the
United States saw Utah s acceptance of Mormonism and women as a shameful attempt to solidify
the church s political power.

Bead Game Essay
Bead Game by Ishu Patel was created in 1977. Bead Game is a stop motion animated film that was
created by arranging single beads into shapes lines, mammals, and mythological creatures. Further
into the film the creatures absorb and devour one another, creating other figures and creatures from
the remaining beads. These beads end up evolving into scenes of modern human warfare. In the
beginning of the film Patel begins with on simple white bead and continues to add other beads and
color making his arrangements of the beads into animated figures. While the beads dance there is
sound of percussion that compliments the movement of the beads due to the synchronization of
both sound and movement in the animation. The film reminded me of the creation of life;... Show

Patel animates the theory of human evolution by showing a monkey transforming into a caveman
and then into present day human. The film is successful in synchronizing the characters towards
the end of the film. Patel shows synchronization through his animating when there are two men
throwing a spear at one another and the beads are arranged in a way that the two mirror each other.
Another historical event that is portrayed is ancient warfare, dating all the way back to what seems
to be around 2700 BCE. I began to notice a pattern or a timeline up to this point, starting with the
creation of life then going through important moments of the history of human creation. I think the
creator of this film is trying to say that a design can start off as something so small and simple, and
then fueled by creativity the design turns into an art form. This interpretation that I have made isn t
obvious; it is just something that I took away from the animation after watching it. Something that
is noticeable throughout this animation is how frequent the use of red is. Patel used red for his
creatures that showed characteristics of being

Thesis About Street Children
I.Introduction
Everyone deserves to have a home that they can live, a sufficient food and things that makes
them contented although other are not comfortable to their life. Street children are those who are
seen in the street and under the bridges. Orphanage is one of the best places for the street
children to live. In this institution they will guided and they will take care by the officials. Some
parents are not responsible to handle such things because of the way they live. Because of the
poverty a lot of parents are force to abandon their children. And the children are needed to work for
their daily needs.
II.PROBLEM STATEMENT
We can see a lot of children sleeping in the street. We have many orphanages here in the
Philippines but the majority of this is occupied of street children. Due to the poverty and parent
s lack of interest in taking good care of their children many are seen by the roads, under the
bridges and those chasing cars to ask for alms. Some are out of school others are driven in
pushing and using drugs. These reasons are some of the causes why some children are involved
with gambling and robbery. Early pregnancy is also one of the reasons why street children are
mounting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Columbus And Hook s Illusion Of Power
Columbus and Hook had a tyrannical illusion of power as well. Most notably Columbus upon
landing on islands in the Caribbean, he named each for instance, San Salvador, Santa Maria and,
Fernandina were all islands Christopher Columbus named although they already had names and
didn t belong to him nor the Spanish monarchy. These actions proved themselves dangerous to
the Natives a few years after Columbus arrival, as they were forced into slavery, Those left
behind were forced to search for gold in mines and work on plantations... (History.com). Slavery
and other mistreatments being allowed in the islands by Columbus is yet another example of
illusion of power, he holds no real authority but is running the islands as if they re his. Similarly,...

Hook demands respect from shipmates although he continually disrespects the crew throughout
Peter Pan as well as Hook. Both men use their illusion of power to strike fear into the people
around them, for example Captain Hook s shipmates are afraid of him so they blindly follow
him without contradicting his statements. In particular, Mr. Smee who plays the role of Hook s
assistant, is always nervous when Hook calls for Smee s attention. Correspondingly, Bartolome
de las Casas wrote in The devastation of the Indies: Hispaniola on page 42, ... [ Indians]
concealed their wives and children and still others fled to the mountains to avoid the terrible
transactions... , this alludes to the terrible horror that was struck deep into the hearts of all Natives
on the Islands with Spanish soldiers. The illusion of power these men possessed lead them to be
rude to their shipmates and others as a sign of superiority. Captain Hook is especially rude to his
shipmates who he would occasionally shoot or injure in both, Peter Pan and Hook. Christopher
Columbus however, is rude and mistreats those who he believes are below him; the

Importance And Importance Of Assembly Line
Importance of the Moving Assembly Line and the Model T Ford Before the world entered into
the Industrial Revolution, all goods were made by hand and took weeks to months to produce.
After the Industrial Revolution had begun, the first concept of the assembly line was created. The
assembly line was comprised of each individual worker doing a certain job of producing a single
part of the final product. Prior to Henry Ford, assembly lines involved horses carrying parts from
one worker to the next to create the end product. The implementation of Ford s moving assembly
lineestablished a world where mass production found widespread popularity for being the dawn
of the automotive industry due to its many benefits. Prior to Ford s moving assembly line, the
Model T was a luxury only accessible to the wealthy, yet it later became a car for all. The Model
T was a car that followed the production of the Model N both of which were meant to be cheap
in comparison to earlier automobiles. From its inception, the Model T has been meant to be the
first car readily available to the masses. Before the moving assembly line was implemented, the
Model T was already a sturdy and relatively inexpensive automobile yet, not inexpensive enough for
Ford who was determined to build motor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of mass production meeting those needs is the modern cell phone of which Samsung
has been able to sell and produce about 300 million phones per year (Anon). Without the use of the
assembly line, mass production would not be a thing. The definition of mass production is
producing something in large quantities, therefore a product can not be produced in large amounts
without an assembly line automating the task at hand. The task of mass production can only ever
be achieved through efficient methods and a working team of machines or people specializing at
each specific

Research Paper On Amelia Earhart
One day she was flying over the ocean, the next day she was gone, never to be seen again.
Amelia Earhart was a pilot and the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1937 Amelia
was flying over the Pacific Ocean when she and her plane disappeared. Because Amelia Earhart
was such an important person in American History, we need to find out what happened to her.
There are quite a few theories about what happened to Earhart. Some of these are she was a spy,
gathering information about the Japanese, or she crashed into the Pacific Ocean. One of the most
widely believed theories is Amelia Earharts disappearance was caused by her plane crashing onto
Gardner Island. There is plenty of physical evidence proving she crashed onto the island. Also,
there are experts that believe this is what happened to her and there are radio calls from Earhart
after her disappearance.
One of the biggest things proving Earhart crashed onto Gardner Island is the physical evidence
found on the island. Having artifacts on the island that belonged to Amelia or her plane proves
that she was on the island. One piece of physical evidence is that there were bones found on the
island. The morphology of the recovered bones, as far as we can tell applying contemporary
forensic methods to measurements taken at the time, appears consistent with a female of Earhart s
height and ethnic origin ( Bryner 1). This quote shows that the bones could have been from Amelia
Earhart. Another piece of physical

The Role Of Social Norms In Jerzy Kosinski s
Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There depicts how social norms affect the socialization of
individuals and displays individuals ability to alter their presentation of self within particular
situations. Kosinski plays with symbolism and the power of names by presenting the character
Chance, who self identifies himself as the gardener, and who acquired his name by being born by
chance. Chance, renamed as Chauncey Gardiner by his peers, has limited social and
communication skills due to being bound to his home with the Old Man, who took him in from
birth. Chance now acting as Chauncey takes on the social role of an upper class, intelligent,

This miscommunication was caused by Chance s attempt to follow social cues and mirror the
actions he saw depicted on television. Although he did not always understand social situations fully,
Chance s ability to adapt to the change in his social environment is due to the skills and norms he
learned from watching television at the Old Man s home. Despite a few moments of confusion,
Chance acting as Chauncey was able to convince those around him that he was a businessman with
insight on economics, not that he was just faking it. The character Chance takes on the public role
of Chauncey Gardiner in Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There, showcasing Goffman s

names, defined situational social roles, and a social and public script, thus resulting in Chance

Analysis Of Luria And Rubin ( 1974 )
Introduction
Subject investigated: Gender stereotypes
Details and aim of replicated study: Luria and Rubin (1974)
Background literature: Previous studies about gender stereotypes enforced on people include;
Effect of infant s perceived gender on adolescents ratings of the infant by Degelman, Dvorak, and
Homutoff and Cowan (1983). These studies highlight feminine and masculine traits. They ask
middle school students to rate a baby on each of those traits.
Rationale: Our group decided to examine the differences in how boys and girls are described. We
used a baby, whose gender is not mentioned, as the control. We knew that specific sets of
expectations based on gender are enforced at a young age. We thought adjectives used to describe a
baby could highlight stereotypical gender roles.
Aim / Hypothesis: We believe it is more likely for the baby to be described based on appearance
when told it is a girl and when told it is a boy to be described based on their potential and whether
they looked smart . Our aim is to highlight the differences between males and females using
stereotypical gender roles.
Method
Design: 15 students were each asked the same question, could you tell us 5 words or phrases that
describe this baby? . 5 were told it was a girl, 5 were told it was a boy, and 5 weren t told a gender.
We decided to use 15 people so that we could use the non gendered descriptions from 5 of the
participants and compare them to the descriptions of boys and

Luxembourg Research Paper
Luxembourgs flag is divided into three equal size stripes of red, white and blue. The colours
originated from the 13th century coat of arms used by the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. The coat
of arms displays a red lion with a striped blue and white background. In the 13th century the
country had a banner that represented the dukes of Luxembourg not the nations people.
Luxembourg declared its in dependence from Germany in 1835 and officially designed their flag
ten years later. This flag is similar to the flag of Netherlands with the exception of having a lighter
shade of blue on the bottom strip. The flag was not influenced by the Netherlands but instead by the
flag of France.
Luxembourgs population is very diverse with their ethnic groups and age. The country has 44%
of people ages 25 54 which is the majority of the population . The second largest age group are
children under the age of 14 making up almost 17% of the population with the smallest age

Nowadays, community gardens are very popular in people. People like working in a community
garden. Doesn t matter what type of work it is. In a community garden, peoples do many kinds of
stuff like digging for stray potatoes, growing and pulling up funnily shaped carrots, or searching
for elusive string beans. The taste of a meal made of fresh, sun ripened produce is delicious. Many
people want to grow food and also wants to have a connection to the food supply chain in his

Gender In Canterbury Tales
The roles and expectations that coincide with gender are displayed in Jeffrey Eugenides Middlesex.
By chronicling Cal Stephanides family history, Eugenides displays the continual and generational
disconnect between sex and gender. As his focus shifts from one generation to the next, this
disconnect becomes more clear and prevalent, making genderidentity an increasingly fluid
concept. In literature, a similar shift can be seen as eras and periods pass, reflecting the ideas
within those time periods regarding gender and sex and how they change. This including various
texts from the Ancient Period, Medieval Period, Renaissance Period, and Age of Reason such as
the story of Lilith from The Alphabet of Ben Sira, Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
,
Baldassare Castiglione s The Courtier, and To the Fair Clarinda by Aphra Behn. Constantly
evolving, gender has become less defined by one s biological sex, and more so determined by
personal comfortability either within or outside of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Wife of Bath s Prologue and The Clerk s Tale show what the ideal womanand man were as
opposed to the flawed an undesirable versions of women and men. Despite Chaucer utilizing
Griselda as a cautionary tale against blind submission and succumbence by exaggerating her traits,
she still represents the ideal woman of the Medieval Period. Griselda is a virtuous, fair young
woman admired by all. Her husband, Walter, puts her through intense emotional distress by telling
her to sacrifice her children, and she complies so she can remain loyal to him. She remains affable,
[meeting guests] so cheerfully... with so much skill... that none could find a fault in how she treated
them despite her inner affliction (Chaucer 350). The ideal Medieval woman is submissive, loyal,

a monument that was meant to honor and salute the heroes of Paris who took part in the
Defense of Paris during the Franco Prussian War, although Rodin did no win the contest this
monument was still able to be installed in Verdun in the 19th century to show appreciation to
the French soldiers of World War I. When you look closely at this sculpture you will see a female
who has wings and to me this symbolizes an angel, she is over top of a warrior of some sort who
seems hurt or wounded, possibly dead. This female may be his guardian angel or something. The
lady with wings seems to be screaming because her mouth is wide open , I am not sure if this is a
cry for help or a rejoicing moment.

Factors, Causes And Effects Of Atomic Bombs
As America came down from the fear and atom madness that gripped the nation in 1945, the
Lemay Subcommittee proposed Operation Crossroads to President Harry Truman in December
that same year. The plan proposed to drop several atomic bombs on naval ships to test the damages
and effects in a controlled setting. Truman approved the plan on January 10, 1946, and preparations
began immediately. The Subcommittee prepared for detonations above and around the island of
Bikini, an isolated, sparsely populated, American controlled territory with naval and air force
capacity in the south Pacific. On March 7, 1946, the 167 Bikini natives moved to a neighboring
atoll and Joint Task Force One (JTFO) praised them for having given up their ancestral home in
trust that the American bomb tests will be of benefit to mankind. This statement by Vice Admiral
W. H. P. Blandy, who oversaw Operation Crossroads
, supplements his and other military officers ,
general wish that no human lives will be sacrificed to the atom, now or ever again. Despite
protests from Manhattan Project scientists, the first Bikini test was scheduled for July 1, 1946. The
operation was shrouded in defense strategies and the pursuit of science. With the exception of
atomic scientists, experts of all ologies flocked to Bikini to study potential mutations, causes of
radiation poisoning, and to witness the spectacle. The Official Report of Operation Crossroads

Social Roles By Imaginary Play
When a child is asked what do they want to be when they grow up, they often respond with a
firefighter, princess, ninja, or teacher. Kids explore and learn these social roles by imaginary play
in classrooms, playrooms and in the home. No matter what make believe land this play is taking
place, children are learninghow to problem solve, cooperate with others, and think flexibly. The
skills it takes to turn a pillow fort into a castle is extraordinary! When children are encouraged,
rather than repressed, to use their imaginations while playing gives them opportunities to learn
about themselves and the world, work out how to handle new situations, develop a higher order of
thinking skills, and implement knowledge learned. In imaginary play, this is one of the first
opportunities children have to explore what they like or dislike about interests or abilities.
Experimenting with the role playing and making sense out of what is being learned in daily life
is expressed in imaginary play. When children play with dolls, they often envision themselves as
the doll which allows adults to see what they are directly observing and obtaining. New situations
that might be considered scary like getting shots at a doctor s office imaginary play is used to
desensitize the situation. By engaging in make believe play, it allows them to prepare and get
comfortable with what is going on. Using imaginary play is highly beneficial for the emotional
development of children. Pretend play

Exploring Culture in Ali s Brick Lane and Hughes I,...
Culture is something we have all heard in our daily lives. In literature, culture is used very well
and analyzing it to get the true meaning of culture portrayed in a text can be very useful. Culture
can mean various things from what you do and what you think to your general lifestyle. It defines
the person you are and is present within everyone s life.
Culture is very important in texts and it is worth analyzing. You know a lot more about the text if
you know the meaning of culture in that text. (E.g. Which actions are accepted or denied). You get
to discover motives for peoples actions and also get to know the general lifestyle the characters live

The main character we are meant to focus on is Nazneen. Through the character of Nazneen we
learn more about characters like her father and sister. Hasina s elopement affects both Nazneen and
her father. The father probably sensed a loss of control over her daughter which he tries to put right
with Nazneen s marriage. This could be the reason for the forced marriage. Also Nazneen
completely accepts it and this could be because she has seen the consequences it had on her sister.
There are two clear parts to the story: one about the life in the Pakistani village and the other in
the English estate. Although there is a big distance between the two places and also a big
difference between the two cultures and societies, life didn t change much for Nazneen. She lived
in a small council estate and there were situations that reminded her or closely linked back home
for her at Pakistan. (i.e. The smell of the bins next to her house, her house in Pakistan had a similar
smell close by). There are many paragraphs but they are all relatively short. This could represent the
many small changes that happen through the life of Nazneen.

Was Cyrus Successful
Cyrus was Astyages grandson and also the king of Persia. Harpagus was sent to kill him, but did
not do so. Throughout his life he accomplished many things and fought in a number of battles.
He was a well respected leader and treated everyone equally to gain his power. He expanded his
power by traveling farther East, beyond the lands he was comfortable with, and fighting the
more violent tribes. Cyrus treatment of his people and the helping of others were what caused
him to gain his power. He didn t think of himself as a conqueror, but as a liberator of people. He
agreed to treating people of all religions and backgrounds equally, so long as they didn t rebel.
Whenever he conquered a new nation, he allowed the people there to keep their religion and
customs. His way of ruling was very different compared to the Assyrians and other previous
rulers. An example of Cyrus actions as a liberator include the exile of the Jewish people in
Babylon. The Jews welcomed Cyrus and his people as liberators and helped them in overthrowing
the Babylonians. Several years later, Cyrus permitted about 40,000 Jewish exiles to return to their
homes. This marked the end of the Babylonian Captivity. After they had all returned to their

American Workers and Labor Unions in The Twenties
In the period immediately following World War I, American workers struggled to earn a living as
prices rose and wages stagnated, forcing them to seek union support. Labor unions endeavored to
represent the working class against their employers and corporations, who refused to increase
wages or improve working conditions. In order to combat the capitalist s immense political clout,
unions made their voice heard through strikes. After the war, capitalists linked unions to the
mounting communist threat, stressing that strikes undermined capitalismand threatened a republican
form of government. As a result, government sided with capital against labor unions and the
struggle of the American workers, who had no voice against corporations. This struggle can be
exemplified in a correspondence between union leader, Samuel Gompersand bishop William
Quayle, published in The Twenties in Contemporary Commentary: Labor Capital . The letters
demonstrate that in the 1920 s, labor unions were necessary as a means to overcome capitalist
greed and enhanced the ideals of democracy by empowering the working class. Unimpeded in their
pursuit of maximum profits to the detriment of the workers, capitalists and their oppressive
methods made labor unions necessary. It is vital to acknowledge the possible bias in Gompers
argument, considering he is a union leader. Also, bishop Quayle s potential bias must be
considered, stemming from him being a clergymen who s in contact with those affected

They landed on top of each other in a straight line about six feet in length. Shock and fear glued
Nate to the bed as the stacking continued until he had to look up to see the last rows. Some unseen
force now directed more books to leave their box and form a new line, connecting to the first row at
a thirty degree angle. The thumping noise softened as the stack rose higher into the air. Another
pile of books soon stretched over Nate s head. The new stack was only a fourth the length of the
first row but just as high. Eerily, Nate s bedroom door opened with the crack he had come to

through the door like they were dangling from invisible strings. The set of encyclopedias he
recognized from the library drifted over to the first stack and began a third line, angled at thirty
degree again so that it made an upside down V with the other angled line. The new row also
stopped at one fourth the length of the original row. More books crowned the stack until it
reached as high as the first two rows. Nate sat unmoving, hardly breathing and hardly able to
believe his eyes. But it seemed the last row of books put an end to the construction. No more
books floated through the door or from boxes. The room was quiet as Nate eyed the partition of
books piled two feet from him. He scooted across the bed to the opposite side and cautiously tested

Why Canada Should Fund The Military
The society one lives in today is controlled by the flow of money. The use of wealth dictates the
entire world, and as a result, power, success, and improvement come with the logical and thoughtful
control of money. So why does Canada strive for success if the government can t cut funds towards
useless motions? The Canadian government should fund the military less. As of 2016, the
Canadian government spent $19 billion, roughly 1.35% of Canadas total GDP funding the military.
Recent political debate has run into this topic: is spending $19 billion on the Canadian military
logical? The disposition of this argument held in this essay believes it is not, and subsequently

Higher priority motions than the military need funding. A first example of a motion that has a
higher priority need for funding than the military is the economic stability of the Canadian
government. As shown in the previous paragraph, Canadian economy is struggling and extremely
vulnerable. To ensure a stable life for Canadian citizens, the government should take the
responsibility to take care of its citizens, hence, funding the Canadian military less. A second
motion that would use military funds more efficiently is the funding of environmental
preservation. Due to the large quantities of CO2 being released into the atmosphere at an
exponential, and thus, alarming rate, the average global temperature is rising. Scientists say that
if the current release of carbon keeps up, dramatic effects such as more droughts and heat waves,
a massive rise in sea levels and more intense hurricanes are impossible to avoid. The Canadian
government cannot ignore the fact that the country s current path is headed for disaster, and money
needs to be directed towards this motion before it s too late. A final example of a motion that is far
more urgent than the funding of the Canadian military is funding the poor. Regardless of efforts
Canada has tried to minimize poverty rates, huge amounts of people are still stuck with low income.
4.9 million people are categorized as poor in Canada, 3 million of which are children. It is
irresponsible of the Canadian government to use money ineffectively when so many people are
barely hanging onto their prosperity. In summary, motions such as ensuring economic stability,
ensuring environmental preservation and funding the poor, which are far more urgent than that the

The Pros And Cons Of Nazi Concentration Camps
Essay
World War II is one of the most imfamous periods in human history. The world is still shocked
today by the horrific idea of the Nazi concentration camps from 1933 1945, but what many people
dont know is what awful, unimaginable things went on behind closed doors in these terrible places.
The Nazi SS doctors used the unknowing, innocent prisoners in these camps to experiment on for
their own personal pleasure and amusement. One of these infamous Doctors was Dr. Sigmund
Rascher, a German SS doctor during the Nazi regime. He experimented on the prisoners with the
consent of Heinrich Himmler, the leader of the the Schutzstaffel also known as the SS. From 1941
to 1944, Rascher conducted some of the textbook ethical trespasses of Berlin s human
experimentation regime . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the nineteenth century, the theory that there were different human races, which could be
differentiated as superior and inferior , served as the basis for the attack. (Aly, Götz, Cleansing
the Fatherland: Nazi Medicine and Racial Hygenie ,(John Hopkins University Press, England,
August 1st 1994) page 1). These racially inferior prisoners were killed in gas chambers or by
being subjected to inhumane, involuntary experiments. One of the most well known of these
camps is Dachau. It was the very first camp to be opened in Nazi Germany. It was located in the
South of Germany on the premises of an old, abandoned munitions factory in the town of Dachau.
During its 12 years in use Dachau took in 206,206 prisoners, 31,951 of whom were

James Madison Biography
Like his close friend Thomas Jefferson, James Madison came from a prosperous family of Virginia
planters, received an excellent education, and studied law В–though only informallyВ— and
quickly found himself drawn into the debates over independence. In 1776, he became a delegate to
the revolutionary Virginia Convention, where he worked closely with Thomas Jeffersonto push
through religious freedom statutes, among other liberal measures. The youngest member of the
Continental Congress, Madison was of smaller than average height for a Virginian of the period;
reports have him standing either five feet four or five feet six inches tall. His soft spoken, shy

The War of 1812 amounted to a second war of independence for the new Republic and helped to
unify the President s party. Much of the War of 1812 centered on bloody battles against the Native
American tribes, who were aided by the British. In 1814, the British took the nation s new capital,
torching the White House and other federal buildings. They were finally defeated at the epic Battle
of New Orleans by General Andrew Jackson s ragtag army, many of whom were volunteers,
including free blacks and slaves and nearly 1,000 French pirates. Although Madison escaped
capture, the victories against Tecumseh and at New Orleans revitalized the nation and earned him
the esteem of his constituents. Madison s critics, who organized the Hartford Convention to protest
his policies, looked like traitors to the victorious nation, and their anti war criticism further
weakened the Federalist Party.Everyone was shocked when the shy and reticent James Madison
announced his marriage to the vivacious Dolley Payne Todd, who became one of the most
popular and vibrant first ladies ever to grace the White House. Dolley Madison was already
familiar with her role in Washington since she had occasionally played the role of hostess during
the Jefferson administration. A beautiful woman who liked to party and to show off her impressive
figure, Dolley Madison quickly earned a reputation among conservatives and political enemies, who
criticized her

John Wilkes Booth s The Lincoln Assassination
The Lincoln Assassination is the most important assassination out of all the four presidents who
have been assassinated. John Wilkes Booth grew up on a farm. His dad, Brutus Booth, was a
famous actor at the time, as was his brother. When John Wilkes Booth grew up, he decided to
become an actor along with his family. Booth was furious when the North beat the South in the
Civil War and he blamed this all on one man: Lincoln. Booth had an original plan to capture
Lincoln, but he failed to be at the spot where they were expecting Lincoln. This leads to the Lincoln
Assassination and how it was planned out and his killers. The first attempt at kidnapping Lincoln
was when Booth and his men were to take him to Richmond and hold him hostage for... Show more

Lincoln saw this time as a way to reunite the North and the South. Vice President Andrew
Johnson took the job as President, but he was a very horrible president. By then, Congress was
getting taken over by a group called the Radical Republicans who they wanted to punish the
South for leaving the Union. Congress then passed a law called the Reconstruction Act and the
people took that act very hard. That was the start of the Klu Klux Klan and they wanted to kill
every black man. Unfortunately they are still around today but not as powerful as back then.
Johnson tried to pass laws, but they were out voted by the Radical Republicans. Then, the
Radical Republicans passed some saying that the people should punish the South for their actions.
Johnson had no power so all those laws went through and he couldn t do a thing about it. It was
then that the Radical Republicans decided to try and impeach Johnson, but that plan failed, but
overall his actions made him a bad president. This paper was to explain the Lincoln Assassination
and how it was planned out and his killers. Booth had an original plan to capture Lincoln before he
assassinated him and the people involved were Samuel Arnold, Michael O Laughlen, John Surratt,
Lewis Powell, George Atzerodt, and David Herold. Booth shot Lincoln on April 15, 1865 on Good
Friday. After Lincoln died, his Vice President Andrew Johnson became president. The Lincoln

Gospel Of Mark Odyssey
This narrative criticism was completed using online resources, comparative biblical texts including
the New King James Bible, New Living Translation, Revised Standard and American Standard
Version Bibles. The Gospel of Mark has no authorship specifically mentioned in its book, but is
traditionally attributed to Mark ,an associate of Peter, around AD 60 70 , it is also confirmed by
Church fathers around AD 140, although there is still some continued question as to its authorship.
Written to early Christian communities, most likely Gentile Christians in Rome, based on the
explanations of Jewish customs and the reference to Roman time system.

They do not want the demonic possession in them and are willing to run off the cliff than be
possessed. This could be symbolism representing even the lowest of people, or those who are
seemingly lost and disconnected also recognize that they would rather die than live in a sinful
state. The disciples are also in this story, we see that they have no interaction with the man or his
situation but are observers. We also see that when the people reject Jesus presence the disciples
follow without any words. Some people are only meant to be observers of the miracle that takes
place in someone else s life as a means of increasing their faith in Jesus and what he can do. The
herdsmen also have a voice in the story, they were on a nearby hill with their swine grazing. They
lost their cash flow when this man was delivered from his demonic possession. This voice
symbolizes those around you who must also sacrifice for your breakthrough, willingly or
unwillingly.
Additionally, the crowd of people that were frightened by the exorcism and the subsequent
drowning of the swine also have a voice. These individuals were not witnesses to the miracle, nor
did they have the belief in what had happened or who performed the miracle to accept him in their

Causes Of Homegrown Terrorism
Even though it is called homegrown terrorism, terrorism does not only start within a home.
Although there have been events that lead to roots of what might have caused the terrorism there is
always evidence that contradicts itself. Some of these roots are radicalization, religion, and
multiculturalism. Every one of these roots has caused terrorismthroughout decades which not only
has the United Sates tried to stop, but which we have come to conclude that it is something that
we cannot control which makes us believe there are other sources and roots of domestic terrorism.
Terrorism is not only on certain days or years; terrorism is an everyday fear.
American Jihad is an American story about a citizen who belonged to Al Qaeda name Anwar
Awlaki who terrorized Boston and Florida. Born in New Mexico, he had a strong rapport with the
American Muslim youths at his mosque, thanks to a fluid use of the English language (not a given
with Islamic religious leaders, even in the U.S.) and his understanding of popular culture. (Lorraine,
2017) An Article by Los Angeles Times identify religion, culture, and radical thoughts as key factors
that influence homegrown terrorism. The article describes him as acting like one of us but knew
how to manipulate the internet and social media, using it to disseminate his videotaped teachings to
a wider audience. Religion, culture, and radical thought not only were one of his influences on
initiating the attacks but another terrorist too. In an

Bike Safety The Importance of Activeness
Biking is not only fun but also a healthy way to stay fit. The experience is breathtaking and
thrilling. However, unless the safety standards become a personal responsibility, chances are as
motorcyclists our lives are exposed to the risks. Therefore, you not only need your best motorcycle
helmet but also a solid understanding of what are the bike safety tips to be abreast of as you stay
active on the road. In addition, on why it is important to stay safe.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 2 percent of motor vehicle crash deaths
are related to bicyclists, worst injuries are to the head.

Inspect that your helmet has a safety sticker. Always wear your helmet when you ride.
Personally, I like those approved by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Snell
Memorial Foundation, American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or American Society for
Testing and Materials (ASTM).
Tip 3: Leave enough space around
If you are riding on the footpath, be keen to check around for cars moving into and out of the
ridgeways. Keep in mind the pedestrians and give them enough space when passing them. Use your
bell or honk to let them know you are behind them and are about to overtake them.
Tip 4: Avoid distraction
This should be avoided at all costs. You need to stay hyper aware of everything going on around
you. Don t assume that drivers will always spot you on time.
Avoid taking your hands off your motorcycle or bike as this leaves you with less control, just in
case of an emergency need of braking or shifting a position. Don t wear headphones or put your
phone where it will be hard for you to get it, forcing you to react and end up being distracted.

Napoleon And Stalin Animal Farm Essay
Animal Farm is a political allegory concerning power about the Russian Revolution. At the
beginning of Animal Farm , power was used to achieve great things. It brought all animals of
Manor Farm together but after an initial influence of power, it began to destroy the community that
they had worked together to form. This can be seen by the character development of Napoleon who
is thought to potray Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Unionduring the mid 1920 s. They were
both leaders that abused their power and used ruthless methods to rule over the community. For
instance, Napoleon and Stalin both abused their given power, one of the similarities between them
was their act of violence. In the novella, Animal Farm by George orwell,... Show more content on

In the novella, Animal Farm , by George Orwell, Orwell states, Napoleon had accepted, through
Whymper, a contract for four hundred eggs a week.... Their method was to fly up the rafters and
there lay their eggs, which smashed to pieces on the floor.... He [Napoleon] ordered the hens
rations to be stopped and decreed that any animal giving so much as a grain of corn to a hen
should be punished by death (pg.68). This means that Napoleon killed all the chickens because
they didn t want to give them anymore eggs. Napoleon never consulted with the hens to give up
their products. This is to symbolise what Stalin did in the past when he wanted to take the lands
away from profiting farmers because private property is against the government and socialism.
Both of them tried to control the food production and would not mind killing to get the production
process smoother. Furthermore, both dictators ruled over their subjects with an iron hand. Orwell
states, ...but it was cruel work, and the animals could not feel so hopeful about it as they had felt
before. They were always cold and usually hungry as well (pg 66). This means that Napoleon
would make the animals work hard no matter how the harsh conditions were. In relation to this,
Stalin made loyal proletariat workers work hard until they got too tired and incompetent. Overall,
both dictators governed their people

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Lo Essay
Louis XIV and Peter the Great
Both Louis XIV and Peter the Great were famous rulers of the late 17th early 18th Centuries. Both
took the throne at a young age and both had many strengths and weaknesses. Louis XIV had many
strengths during his reign as ruler of France. Appointing Jean Baptiste Colbert as his minister of
finance made some of his greatest strengths and accomplishments. One strength was that of
mercantilism, which is an economic theory under which a country increases its wealth by exporting
more goods than it imports. By accomplishing this, Louis XIV made himself and France very
wealthy. More wealth was made when a balance of trade brought more gold and silver into France.

He always demanded opera and made it popular. He was also the principal patron of many famous
artists, and brought their work into Versailles. His palace housed many people, including 1,000
nobles and their 4,000 servants in the palace s 226 rooms. Another 5,000 servants were housed in
nearby annexes.
In addition to his strengths, Louis XIV had weaknesses. After Colbert died, Louis made one
mistake that undid all of his work. He revoked Edict of Nantes who protected the religious
freedom of the Huguenots. Instead of being imprisoned, more than 200,000 Huguenots fled from
France. The country lost many of its skilled workers and business leaders. Louis XIV also fought
many costly wars that caused his people great suffering. Many of the wars left France on the brink
of bankruptcy.
Peter the Great had many strengths, but his best was he modernized Russia. By seeing Europe,
he changed many things. He changed the calendar so the New Year would be January 1. He
increased agriculture by growing new crops and increased the number of factories in Russia. He
also started the first Russian newspaper and enlarged their army to 200,000 men. He also got a
warm water port for his window on the sea.
A big weakness for Peter the Great was he ignored and abused the people of his country. Many of
the changes were for the sake of increasing his own power. He ordered many

Horus Research Paper
Horus, an Ancient Egyptian god, is one of the most important gods in Ancient Egypt. There are
many different forms of Horus. Each of these different forms are treated as a different god. There is
a very popular story about Horus, which I will focus on in this essay. It described Horus as a son of
Osiris and Isis. According to ancient.eu, Osiris was worshiped the most, and as he is one of the
oldest gods in Ancient Egypt. He was considered to be the god of afterlife. Everyone respected and
admired him. This is because in Ancient Egypt, the afterlife was considered to be more important
than real life. The ancient Egyptians respected the dead, and even referred to them as being the
living ones. Isis was a daughter of Nut and Geb. She was considered... Show more content on

He was mostly thought of as the god of protection. According to Nanno Marinatos, author of
Gods, Heroes, And Monsters a source book of greek, roman, and near eatern myths in
translation, Horus was considered to be the role model for all rulers of the Kingdom of Egypt. It
was believed that Horus would guide the pharaohs and help them. Horus was also considered to
be the god of the sun and sky. His name and appearance proved this. Horus eyes were symbols
for the sun and moon. His right eye was the sun, and his left eye was the moon. Horus eyes
became the moon and the sun when Set and Horus had endlessly battled for the control over
Egypt. They fought many times until the other gods finally stopped them. They decided since
Set had killed Osiris for the throne and Horus has killed no one for the throne, that Horus will
take the throne since it is his birth right. When Horus won the battle, he became Horus the Elder.
In the fight between Set and Horus, Set lost his testicle. Set was the god of fertility. This is why
the Egyptian desert cannot grow crops. Horus lost his left eye in the battle. It became the moon,
since it was very weak when compared to the sun, which was his right eye.
According to Marinatos, Haru is another pronunciation of Horus used in Egyptian. It means
Falcon , and, He who is above, over something . Horus was a man who had a falcon s head. The
Eye of Horus was an Ancient Egyptian symbol of

1.1Explain the welfare requirements and guidance of the relevant early year s framework.
The welfare requirements of EYFS has now become the safeguarding and welfare requirement
(SWR) since September 2012. The SWR have several features connecting to essential actions taken
by childcare settings to deliver safety to children.
The safeguarding and welfare requirement contains cases of adults behaviour which covers the
cyphers of abuse and neglect. It is essential that if staff becomes conscious of any such signs, they
should respond suitably in order to protect children. Regular staff meeting should be help and staff
trainings should also cover recognising adult behaviour. All childcare settings must implement a
safeguarding policy and other procedures, which should be in agreement with the regulation of the
Local Safeguarding Children s Board. The safeguarding policies and procedures must cover the use
of mobile phones and cameras in the setting, according to the revised EYFS.
Staff suitability/CRB checks/ DBS checks: Childcare providers must gain an enhanced criminal
records disclosure in respect of every person aged 16 and over who works openly with children,
lives on the premises on which the childcare is provided and/or works on the premises on which
the childcare is provided.

Summary Of Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep
Throughout Philip K. Dick s Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? we see the main character,
Rick Deckard become steadily more empathetic towards the androids. However, the crux of this
change in his perspective is observed in his attempt to kill Luba Luft and the turmoil he feels
afterwards. In Dick s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep Luba Luft is one of the most human
androids of the story and it is this trait that makes it so hard for Rick to kill her. She acts just as a
young girl would, exhibiting innocence and naivety. This is observed in how absorbed 2. fig.
Having one s attention fully or intensely engaged in; captivated, engrossed (OED online, 2) she
is in the painting, puberty . Luba is taking part in the inherently human act of enjoying art so
much so that she is absorbed in the picture before her (122), not even noticing the two bounty
hunters set to kill her. The vulnerability exhibited by Luba through these actions is mirrored in
the painting she is so engrossed in: a drawing of a young girl, hands clasped together, seated on
the edge of a bed, an expression of bewildered wonder and new, groping awe imprinted on the
face (122). The girl in the painting is nude and undergoing Puberty , a vulnerable stage in a
young girl s life in which she becomes a woman; Luba is attempting to undergo her own puberty
, trying to transition into becoming a human being and not just another android. Rick s changing
views on androids is not only illustrated by his growing empathy towards them but also in how he
thinks of them. He begins to associate human traits with them seeing them more as people than
objects. This new view of androids is contrasted to Phil Resch s view of them when he attempts
to murder Luba and Rick tries to persuade him not to. Phil continually refers to Luba and other
androids as it (124), objectifying them. To Phil, the androids are not people at all: they are
objects. Whereas Rick refers to Luba as her (122), this difference in pronouns illustrates that Rick
sees Luba as a human being. Rick s behaviour towards Luba and androids in general has changed

  • 2. Correlational Method The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the correlational method as a means for examining the relationship between functions of the left and right hemispheres. I will compare the performance of people with intact brains with the performance of so called split brain patients. In many ways, the brains of these two groups are very similar. 1a. The location of the brainstem in the normal brain is near the lower back of the brain, where the cerebrumand spinal cord connect. The brainstem is separated into three parts. One is the midbrain, which regulates temperature, and is a part of vision, hearing, motor movement, sleep cycles, and alertness. Next is the pons, which controls sleep, respiration, the bladder, hearing, taste, posture, and facial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, future investigations may need to adopt techniques that improve upon those used here. 5a. Since brain function is lateralized between the two hemispheres of the brain, normal patients should display a greater relationship between functions usually occurring in the left hemisphere and those performed by the right hemisphere. So in split brain patients, the relationship between hemispheres performing tasks that require to different hemispheres of the brain would be much weaker. The correlational analysis is consistent with the hypothesis because the correlation coefficients for normal brain patients are much higher than the correlation coefficient coefficients for split brain patients when each group performed tasks that required two different hemispheres of the brain. 5b. All the results readily fit the hypothesis. 5c. To improve the correlational study, a researcher should increase the sample size and include more tasks, such as mathematical calculations, reading skills, and creativity, to further test each hemisphere in the brain for both types of patients. 5d. Correlational studies should not be used to test hypotheses because they cannot verify whether or not one variable causes another. Correlation is not the same as causation, since the results have a likelihood to be due to chance. Experiments allow us to manipulate and isolate variables to ensure causation. 5e. Another experiment that can be used to test our hypotheses would be to take four cognitive tests such as math problems, family facial recognition, music recognition, and a reading test first covering the left eye and then the right eye for a group of normal patients and split brain patients to test their abilities. I think the normal patients will do far better in all the tests than the split brain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Art And Sports In American Culture How should art and sports contribute to the good life of an American citizen? How should we value art and sports in our culture? What is the real purpose of arts and physical education? How does art and sports take part in my culture? How should we, as a culture value sports and art? We should value art and sport more as part of our culture. Dr. Dana Gioia in his 2007 Commencement address to Stanford University states, The role of the culture, however, must go beyond economics. It is not focused on the price of things, but on their value. And, above all, culture should tell us what is beyond pride, including what does not belong in the market. A culture should also provide some cogent view of the good life beyond mass accumulation. There is a difference between cost and value. 2 people could have the same object with the same cost but could value that object differently. For example, one person could purchase a painting for $500, another person could receive that same painting with the same cost from a close relative. The person that paid $500 would value it as an expensive item, and the person who received the painting from a close relative would value it as something they would cherish because it was given to them as a gift. Same thing with sports, someone could be in a seeing that it is something that they take pride in and another person could take participate in a sport because their parents did it or their parents want them to do it. Two people can have the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Fairy Tale Analysis Cinderella, We Know Thee Near and Far Triumphant reward in spite of unjust punishment is a universal sentiment that transcends languages and cultures. There are thousands of folktales and fairy tales that are firmly rooted in individual cultures, yet the tale of Cinderella has been told through many centuries and throughout the far corners of the world. With thousands of versions of this classic tale in print worldwide, the tale is believed to have originated with the story of Rhodopis, a Greek slave girl who is married to an Egyptian King. The story of Rhodopis, which means rosy cheeks, dates back to 7 BC and is attributed to a Greek geographer named Strabo. The Chinese variation of this fairy tale is named Yeh hsien. The Chinese version is traceable to the year 860 and appears in Miscellaneous Morsels from Youyang by Duan Chengshi. Yeh hsien is a young girl, motherless and in the control of her stepmother, who befriends a treasured fish. The jealous step mother kills the fish, but it s bones provide Yeh hsien with magical powers, eventually enabling Yeh hsien to escape the control of her step mother for a royal life. The Story of the Black Cow which is found within the pages of Folk Tales from the Himalayas by John Murray, published in 1906, the child who is mistreated by a stepmother is a male and the role of savior is portrayed by a snake, with a cow serving as the moral of the story, faithfulness. These two versions of Cinderella carry many common threads that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Character Development In A White Heron Many times adults will look back on their childhood to remember the great adventures they had or even the adventures they wished they had as a child. When looking back on those adventures one can see where at the time they were great and wonderful, often recalling in vivid detail the winning of a battle, finding a treasure or climbing an impossibly large mountain. These adventures can shape who and what adults become. In the story A White Heron the author Sarah Orne Jewett the perspective of the child is used to give the reader an insight once again into the world of adventure that children have. Once again the adult can relive an adventure and see the shaping of a girl into a young woman takes place. This shaping takes place through the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She takes things as they are and does not see the bad in the world. As Sylvia is walking along she recalls her move to the country. Her thoughts bring her to remember the great red faced boy who used to chase and frighten her . On the tail end of this thought she suddenly hears the whistle of a boy, one that she has not heard before in the woods. She is very frightened over this, as if her thoughts had conjured up the mean little boy. As she tries to hide a stranger with a gun approaches her, one can almost feel the ominous feeling that something bad is going to happen. One can see that the stranger is kind, but the carrying of the gun gives that hint of danger. The danger is reveled later when the stranger is told of Sylvia s knowledge of the birds and other animals. Instead of enjoying natures creatures in their natural habitat the stranger shoots them and then they re stuffed and preserved, dozens and dozens of them, (Jewett, pg #}. The stranger talks of the white heron as if it were his Holy Grail . Having the white heron would be the best trophy of all time, so much so that he is willing to pay a fortune to know where its nest is. This is very tempting for Sylvia. She struggles with giving an answer as to where the stranger could find the white heron. It is an internal battle that everyone faces at one time or another. Sylvia follows the stranger the next day, foreign feelings filling her mind, Sylvia still watched the young man with loving admiration (Jewett 42). Sylvia is awakening from a young girl to the brink of a young woman, she starts to feel love blossom. One can see the internal turmoil going through Sylvia s mind. She grieved because the longed for white heron was elusive but inside she is also happy and blames this on the fact that she did not lead followed (Jewett, pg ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Jonathan Romney s Access All Areas In the article, Access All Areas: The Real Space of Rock Documentary by Jonathan Romney, he mainly focuses on the idea of backstage or behind the current and how it comes into play in rock documentaries. He argues his points that the backstage of a concert is not a sacred place for celebrities on and off the screen of a rock documentary, backstage is not a real home, and rock documentaries are full of unauthentic and clichГ© scenes. The documentaries show the star on stage captivating the crowd with their show and onstage antics then show a shot of them coming off stage and the viewers can supposedly watch the mask lift off and the star s true self is revealed. Romney makes a reference to Wizard Of Oz when the curtain is lifted and the true... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Romney emphasizes the documentaries try to convey that the star s offstage self is their purest achievement because producing music, making videos, and playing shows is not enough to satisfy the fans. The star is seen as more than a performer, they are seen as an icon or a force that manifests itself and when the star is on stage performing and not their authentic self, it leaves the viewers confused with the different personalities. Romney mentions David Bowie and Madonna to be two of the most transparent celebrities but when they started acting, the several personalities overshadowed their true selves. Backstage is not an artist s space; it will never take the shape of a home or a place of comfort. The artist s environment is constantly changing and backstage is the closest they will get to have their own space and feel some sense of control over it and assert dominance on anyone who invades it. Romney mentions in Madonna s Truth or Dare In Bed with Madonna where she denied the cameraman access to her trailer early on in the film to show who is boss and ultimately runs the ... • 7. Causes And Effect Of The Debt Crisis Essay What is the European Debt Crisis? The European Debt Crisis is the failure of the Euro, a currency that ties seventeen European countries together. In this paper, I will be describing the cause and effect of the debt crisis along with what would happen if the European Union stayed with the economy they have. Then what I believe is the best solution to fixing the debtcrisis. Causes Formation of European Union Adoption of the Euro Increasing Debts Large Amounts of Borrowing High Interest Rates Large Government spending High Taxes Paying Debts with Barrowed Money Monetary Inflexibility Greece on the brink of defaulting There are many causes for the debt crisis to start. Before world war II Europe had very strict trade barriers between countries examples being currency exchange fees and trade tariffs. Then World War II happened and was so detrimental to Europe they couldn t continue to have such strict trade barriers. The barriers were then slowly removed with the first barrier removal being steel and coal. This worked well enough that it caused twenty seven countries to sign the Maastricht Treaty thus forming the European Union (UN). This made trading throughout all Europe easier which caused more trade to occur within Europe. In 1999 seventeen countries in the European Union adopted the Euro forming a Euro Area. With the adoption of the Euro these seventeen countries discontinued their old currencies and monetary policies. Monetary Policies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then, the radio came on. Two men were killed and three were wounded in a patrol outside of Danang. One of the men, first lieutenant Levy, Caputo had known while they were at Quantico. In late October, an enemy battalion attacked one of the Marines helicopter bases, which damaged or destroyed over fourty aircraft. The weather was gloomy. The attitudes of the men, according to Caputo, began to match the weather, (227). The fighting, on the other hand, became more vicious. Gibson gives his opinion on polygamy and how it violates the Christian family. Gibson (2010) argues that polygamy came about because of systematic patriarchy. Gibson gives information on Anderson Cooper s television special Polygamyin America, Cult or Calling? which discusses the capture of polygamist leader Warren Jeffs. Gibson (2010) explains how America s recent fascination with polygamy only covers one aspect of it referring to the main coverage of modern day Mormon polygamy. The researcher also gives information on the change of polygamous relationships over time. Gibson (2010) reflects that in modern day polygamous marriages people are able to pick their spouses. Women are actually enjoying being in a polygamous marriage instead of being forced into it. Simpson (2007) elaborates on the culture and faith of most polygamous. The author states that the history of Mormonism has involved to highly complex contacts and negotiations with non Mormons in their attempts to convert, resist, or appease outsiders. Mormons have engaged in a distinctive dialectic of secrecy and self disclosure. (p.11) In some cases, Simpson (2007) suggests Mormons feel they are being forced to be modernized. • 10. Bead Game Essay Bead Game by Ishu Patel was created in 1977. Bead Game is a stop motion animated film that was created by arranging single beads into shapes lines, mammals, and mythological creatures. Further into the film the creatures absorb and devour one another, creating other figures and creatures from the remaining beads. These beads end up evolving into scenes of modern human warfare. In the beginning of the film Patel begins with on simple white bead and continues to add other beads and color making his arrangements of the beads into animated figures. While the beads dance there is sound of percussion that compliments the movement of the beads due to the synchronization of both sound and movement in the animation. The film reminded me of the creation of life;... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patel animates the theory of human evolution by showing a monkey transforming into a caveman and then into present day human. The film is successful in synchronizing the characters towards the end of the film. Patel shows synchronization through his animating when there are two men throwing a spear at one another and the beads are arranged in a way that the two mirror each other. Another historical event that is portrayed is ancient warfare, dating all the way back to what seems to be around 2700 BCE. I began to notice a pattern or a timeline up to this point, starting with the creation of life then going through important moments of the history of human creation. I think the creator of this film is trying to say that a design can start off as something so small and simple, and then fueled by creativity the design turns into an art form. This interpretation that I have made isn t obvious; it is just something that I took away from the animation after watching it. Something that is noticeable throughout this animation is how frequent the use of red is. Patel used red for his creatures that showed characteristics of being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thesis About Street Children I.Introduction Everyone deserves to have a home that they can live, a sufficient food and things that makes them contented although other are not comfortable to their life. Street children are those who are seen in the street and under the bridges. Orphanage is one of the best places for the street children to live. In this institution they will guided and they will take care by the officials. Some parents are not responsible to handle such things because of the way they live. Because of the poverty a lot of parents are force to abandon their children. And the children are needed to work for their daily needs. II.PROBLEM STATEMENT We can see a lot of children sleeping in the street. We have many orphanages here in the Philippines but the majority of this is occupied of street children. Due to the poverty and parent s lack of interest in taking good care of their children many are seen by the roads, under the bridges and those chasing cars to ask for alms. Most notably Columbus upon landing on islands in the Caribbean, he named each for instance, San Salvador, Santa Maria and, Fernandina were all islands Christopher Columbus named although they already had names and didn t belong to him nor the Spanish monarchy. These actions proved themselves dangerous to the Natives a few years after Columbus arrival, as they were forced into slavery, Those left behind were forced to search for gold in mines and work on plantations... In particular, Mr. Smee who plays the role of Hook s assistant, is always nervous when Hook calls for Smee s attention. Correspondingly, Bartolome de las Casas wrote in The devastation of the Indies: Hispaniola on page 42, ... • 13. Importance And Importance Of Assembly Line Importance of the Moving Assembly Line and the Model T Ford Before the world entered into the Industrial Revolution, all goods were made by hand and took weeks to months to produce. After the Industrial Revolution had begun, the first concept of the assembly line was created. The assembly line was comprised of each individual worker doing a certain job of producing a single part of the final product. Prior to Henry Ford, assembly lines involved horses carrying parts from one worker to the next to create the end product. The implementation of Ford s moving assembly lineestablished a world where mass production found widespread popularity for being the dawn of the automotive industry due to its many benefits. Prior to Ford s moving assembly line, the Model T was a luxury only accessible to the wealthy, yet it later became a car for all. The Model T was a car that followed the production of the Model N both of which were meant to be cheap in comparison to earlier automobiles. From its inception, the Model T has been meant to be the first car readily available to the masses. Before the moving assembly line was implemented, the Model T was already a sturdy and relatively inexpensive automobile yet, not inexpensive enough for Ford who was determined to build motor... Amelia Earhart was a pilot and the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1937 Amelia was flying over the Pacific Ocean when she and her plane disappeared. Because Amelia Earhart was such an important person in American History, we need to find out what happened to her. There are quite a few theories about what happened to Earhart. Some of these are she was a spy, gathering information about the Japanese, or she crashed into the Pacific Ocean. One of the most widely believed theories is Amelia Earharts disappearance was caused by her plane crashing onto Gardner Island. There is plenty of physical evidence proving she crashed onto the island. Also, there are experts that believe this is what happened to her and there are radio calls from Earhart after her disappearance. One of the biggest things proving Earhart crashed onto Gardner Island is the physical evidence found on the island. Having artifacts on the island that belonged to Amelia or her plane proves that she was on the island. One piece of physical evidence is that there were bones found on the island. The morphology of the recovered bones, as far as we can tell applying contemporary forensic methods to measurements taken at the time, appears consistent with a female of Earhart s height and ethnic origin ( Bryner 1). This quote shows that the bones could have been from Amelia Earhart. Another piece of physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role Of Social Norms In Jerzy Kosinski s Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There depicts how social norms affect the socialization of individuals and displays individuals ability to alter their presentation of self within particular situations. Kosinski plays with symbolism and the power of names by presenting the character Chance, who self identifies himself as the gardener, and who acquired his name by being born by chance. Chance, renamed as Chauncey Gardiner by his peers, has limited social and communication skills due to being bound to his home with the Old Man, who took him in from birth. Despite a few moments of confusion, Chance acting as Chauncey was able to convince those around him that he was a businessman with insight on economics, not that he was just faking it. The character Chance takes on the public role of Chauncey Gardiner in Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There, showcasing Goffman s dramaturgical analysis of the social production of the self identity through symbolic character names, defined situational social roles, and a social and public script, thus resulting in Chance having two separate identities, a personal and a ... Analysis Of Luria And Rubin ( 1974 ) Introduction Subject investigated: Gender stereotypes Details and aim of replicated study: Luria and Rubin (1974) Background literature: Previous studies about gender stereotypes enforced on people include; Effect of infant s perceived gender on adolescents ratings of the infant by Degelman, Dvorak, and Homutoff and Cowan (1983). These studies highlight feminine and masculine traits. They ask middle school students to rate a baby on each of those traits. Rationale: Our group decided to examine the differences in how boys and girls are described. We used a baby, whose gender is not mentioned, as the control. We knew that specific sets of expectations based on gender are enforced at a young age. We thought adjectives used to describe a baby could highlight stereotypical gender roles. Aim / Hypothesis: We believe it is more likely for the baby to be described based on appearance when told it is a girl and when told it is a boy to be described based on their potential and whether they looked smart . Our aim is to highlight the differences between males and females using stereotypical gender roles. Method Design: 15 students were each asked the same question, could you tell us 5 words or phrases that describe this baby? . 5 were told it was a girl, 5 were told it was a boy, and 5 weren t told a gender. We decided to use 15 people so that we could use the non gendered descriptions from 5 of the participants and compare them to the descriptions of boys and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By chronicling Cal Stephanides family history, Eugenides displays the continual and generational disconnect between sex and gender. As his focus shifts from one generation to the next, this disconnect becomes more clear and prevalent, making genderidentity an increasingly fluid concept. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Higher priority motions than the military need funding. A first example of a motion that has a higher priority need for funding than the military is the economic stability of the Canadian government. As shown in the previous paragraph, Canadian economy is struggling and extremely vulnerable. To ensure a stable life for Canadian citizens, the government should take the responsibility to take care of its citizens, hence, funding the Canadian military less. A second motion that would use military funds more efficiently is the funding of environmental preservation. Due to the large quantities of CO2 being released into the atmosphere at an exponential, and thus, alarming rate, the average global temperature is rising. Scientists say that if the current release of carbon keeps up, dramatic effects such as more droughts and heat waves, a massive rise in sea levels and more intense hurricanes are impossible to avoid. The Canadian government cannot ignore the fact that the country s current path is headed for disaster, and money needs to be directed towards this motion before it s too late. A final example of a motion that is far more urgent than the funding of the Canadian military is funding the poor. Regardless of efforts Canada has tried to minimize poverty rates, huge amounts of people are still stuck with low income. 4.9 million people are categorized as poor in Canada, 3 million of which are children.
