Analysis Of Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself
Walt Whitman s Song of Myself helps inspire my body and soul, activates my mind, and encourages
individual discovery for the sake of creating a better world for all to live in. It also acts as a form of
instruction for becoming an American in ideal and in action. Through his free form verse and tone that
reflects more of a wizened and rosy cheeked grandfather than controversial poet, Whitman s writing
acts as a refreshing breath to all, including myself, that are searching for an empathetic peace of mind.
I celebrate myself, and sing myself,/ And what I assume you shall assume,/ For every atom belonging
to me as good belongs to you./ , Whitman begins, inviting the reader to a conversation by the fireside,
as we are equal in spirit, matter, and creation, which should obviously be celebrated and shared.
Whitman provides a view of the world around him in which every action, person, object, and event is
held as a miracle. He harkens back to Emersonian ideals of the divine being a part of all, reflecting, I
hear and behold God in every object, yet understand God not in the least, and further on, I see
something of God each hour of the twenty four, and each moment then . This challenges me to open
my mind to a worldview not limited to my own origin or upbringing, but to view the world with a
universal love and positive connection. This includes looking onto traditionally repulsive concepts,
including body odor, the butcher shedding his clothes, and a prostitute stricken with pox, as signs of
the divine. Pages are dedicated to describing the sights he assigns as portions of the song of myself .
He, and by extension, me, have a personal connection to the boy that lies awake in the cedar roof d
garret and harks to the musical rain , and have just as close a bond to the aforementioned prostitute as
her bonnet bobs on her tipsy and pimpled neck . John Paul Jones is as much a part of us as the
numberless unknown heroes that have perished without memory. All are equal parts of himself and
myself, as every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.
Whitman wrote in a manner to educate every person, and more specifically, every American, on how
to embrace each moment and forge a path to understand their

To Kill A Mockingbird Parenting Style Essay
Journal #3
I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and I am on page 117. This book is about Scout,
Dill, and Jem who get into some trouble while messing with the Radley s. Their neighbor, Miss
Maudie s house burns down, and in the process they learn some things about their neighbors. The
town is upset about Atticus defending Tom Robinson, a Negro, and the family dynamics at Christmas
dinner end with lots of yelling and chaos. In this journal, I will be evaluating and connecting.

Also, at night if Atticus wakes up, he will more than likely get up and check on Jem and Scout. An
example of Atticus is very protective is that Atticus always does his best to make sure his kids are
happy and safe. One way to show that is when it was very cold outside; Atticus put more coal in the
fire and put blankets on Jem and Scout to warm them up. Atticus also asks multiple questions before
or after Jem and Scout do something like where they were, or what they were doing to make sure they
are staying out of trouble. Lastly, Atticus always keeps a very close eye on his kids, especially Scout
because they are really all he has,and Atticus would like to always keep them safe. Another asset of
Atticus parenting skill is that he disciplines Jem and Scout in a way that if very effective, and helpful.
The reason why his parenting is effective is that he uses his words, never violence. Jem said that he
has never gotten spanked, so Atticus probably does not like using violence on Jem and Scout. Also,
Atticus yells at his kids if they are doing anything bad to get them to realize what they are doing
wrong. Lastly, when Atticus gets mad, he is strict enough to get Jem and Scout to listen to him, but not
too strict that it is mean. Atticus is also a very wise man, so whenever he has the opportunity to share
something with Jem and Scout, he does, and it is usually when they get in trouble and it

South Carolina Essay
The United States is a large country with fifty states. South Carolina is present in the southeastern part
of the United States. It faces the Atlantic Ocean on its eastern border. North Carolina lies to its north
while the state of Georgia is present in the south and the west of South Carolina. The state has a
significant history especially in the American Civil War.
South Carolina can be termed in the old times as a slave state. The state joined the United States after
the American Civil War. South Carolina has 46 counties and a total population of around 5 million
people. South Carolina contains five different geographical areas. One of the amazing things to do in

There are also many bays in Carolina and most of them have an oval shape. There are not many areas
available for farming in the state and therefore most of the economy of the region depends on the
production from coastal areas. The fall line area marks the point where the rivers drop to the coastal
region and have been a source of generating power in the old times. One of the best things to do in
America is to enjoy its water resources and the Chattooga River is excellent for rafting and attracts
many visitors annually. Columbia is the capital of the state with a population of around 133,000. Lake
Marion is the largest fresh water body in South Carolina and the state has a subtropical climate. The
state is often affected by coastal storms by they are much less in intensity than storms experienced by
more southerly states. Many native tribes lived in these lands when Europeans first came ashore the
area which now makes up South Carolina. Wealthy Englishmen from Barbados were attracted towards
this land and formed one of the first European establishments in the region. There were many fertile
lands at that time and the area became especially famous for growing the Indigo plant which provides

Examples Of Anger In Seneca
ANGER/SENECA
Anger is a strong emotion that everyone has inside them. It s also a vice because it s one of our bad
sides. Anger mostly makes people lose control of themselves and drives them to act violently. As
Seneca agrees and mentions, we can consider anger as a short madness because even if it s for one
second of rage we feel, we go mad. We can t think properly and due to that we can t act properly.
Seneca says Anger is the desire of revenge, not the power and faculty of it. and Those who think of
injuring us are already considered as they injured us because they did it in conceit. I disagree with this
idea because I believe actions are more important than intentions. For example, someone who thinks
of killing people is innocent

Breathe Right Strip Summary
Breath Right Strips
Introduction According to the text, Breathe Right Strips were invented by Bruce Johnson, a chronic
nasal congestion sufferer. Mr. Johnson Brought his creation to CNS Inc. CNS took the product and
primarily marketed it to sports teams, nasal sufferers and night time snorers. The product really
became prominent when Jerry Rice of the San Francisco 49ers wore the product in the Super Bowl.
According to cns.com, Breathe Right Strips is also available in vapor strips, clear and tan strips, and
nasal strips for kids. Some of the other products include nasal spray, throat spray, fiberchoice and a
portable vaporizer. Armed with these few, but strong products in 1995 CNS, decided to go global.
Summary of the Facts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Weaknesses are that the product is kept behind the counter of some international drug stores, thus
limiting the exposure. The Universal Product Codes on packaging aren t universal. The different
governments may have different ways of reviewing the product, and can take a few weeks to a month
to gain approval. The opportunity is that CNS has a product that may not withstand the test of time.
The CNS Company may need to look at extending their product line beyond the strips, vaporizers and
fiber tablets. They have such a limited product line. The biggest threat according to breathe right strips
is a company called gin miller. According to ginmiller.com, they have produced nasal dilatators that
are reusable. The other threat is the income of developing countries. They may not have the disposable
income to be able to buy the product.
Recommendations
The first recommendation is to implement at the end of stage one, an approval stage. Once the product
is tested and gains approval, they should make sure that they have approval from the governments
before the product launch. They should also take a look at expanding their product line to something
that people are willing to pay their money for. They could find different groups to market the product
to beyond athletes and snorers. There may be a market for the product to people who have more of a
need for the product, such as asthma,

Analysis Of Peggy Mcintoth And Male Privilege
In Peggy McIntosh s White Privilege and Male Privilege, she as a white woman herself was one of the
first people to acknowledge that white privilege is a phenomenon that is commonly overlooked in the
white race and made a point to think of many instances where white privilege was prominent. Peggy
McIntosh defines white privilege as, an invisible package of unearned assets that I can count on
cashing in each day, but about which I was meant to remain oblivious. White privilege is like an
invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools,
and blank checks . To interpret this, she is saying that white privilege is an unacknowledged idea with
so many different parts and pieces to it, it is hard to classify it as just one thing. When she goes on in
the article listing situations where because of white privilege she would not have to be concerned
about the outcome; example 41 stated, I can be sure that if I need legal or medical help, my race will
not work against me (McIntosh). This example can be related to Brock Turners case given the
situation of him having legal trouble and having more things go for him during his trial rather than
having people working against him. It seems that the white race lives focusing on normalcy and
convenience, that when they are in a situation to help others they aim to make them more like
themselves (McIntosh). It only makes me wonder, how do they act when a more serious situation such
as rape is introduced, how it affects them. It seems that in tough situations, white privilege itself works
to show dominance and power over certain groups.
In Allan R. White s article Privilege, he takes a similar stance to McIntosh in regard to the fact that
privilege does not take one specific form. Although White does not primarily focus on the aspects of
white privilege, it is important to understand both parts of the phrase to get an understanding of its
whole definition. It is helpful to look at the word privilege separate from race to understand the forms
it can potentially take. Allan White defines privilege as, A notion coordinate with right, duty, liberty,
power, and immunity that someone or something has in virtue of being singled

Who Is Better Than Stand-Up Comedy
We are living in a time where it seems as if we as a people cannot agree on anything. We are living
what appears to be a turbulent time in a nation that is dividing further and further apart. With all the
terrible things going on in the nation we all need an escape from time to time. To me one of the best
escapes form the chaos in the world is laughter. What better way to get that laughter delivered to you,
than stand up comedy? Over the years I have not met many people that do not enjoy going to a
comedy show. The one thing that I have found is that most people either do not know that comedy
shows are going on all around them or; they will not go to a show if the person is not famous. As a
stand up comedian myself I know how hard it can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is why I cannot understand why it can be like pulling teeth to get people to come out and support
a live local stand up comedy show. Is it really worth it to spend an exorbitant amount of money on a
ticket to go watch a world famous comedian in an arena or a theater? I am not trying to say that those
shows are not fun and that those comedians do not deserve to have us go watch them, they worked
hard to get there. What I am saying is, that going to a comedy club setting is a much more enjoyable
experience. Instead of spending an arm and a leg on a ticket. You can spend a fraction of the price and
probably get friends to come along with you. It is so much better to sit at a table full of friends instead
of in a row in a cramped chair next to strangers. With the money you saved, you and your friends can
go out to eat before, and order more drinks at your table at the show. There is not much better than
getting dressed up and going out and having a fun night with a group of loved ones. Many people are
afraid of going into intimate settings for fear of being picked on by the comedians on stage. I am here
to tell you, that the vast majority of comedians do not pick on the crowd. It is already hard enough to
get a crowd there, why would they make them not feel comfortable. They do however, interact with
the crowd making the show more inclusive. Something that you would not get at an arena or theater
show, unless you buy front row tickets. The audience just becomes an amorphous mass of nothingness
for me, there s no intimacy Because in terms of my material.... you should have no more than 300
people at a gig because you need to see the whites of a comedian s

Analysis Of The Woman Warrior
Maxine Hong Kingston uses several different points of view in her novel, The Woman Warrior. A
different perspective is utilized in each chapter depending on the focus of the story being told. For
instance, Kingston describes any experiences of her childhood in first person. On the other hand, any
story that focuses on her mother or her family in general is told in third person. By doing this, she is
able to convey each story from the viewpoint that best describes the story whether it be from the
perspective of a young girl or an omniscient narrator. Through the use of different points of view,
Kingston is able to establish multiple, distinct stories of her upbringing as a young Chinese girl in
California and the circumstances behind it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the case when Kingston s aunt moves to America to confront her husband after being invited
by Kingston s mother. As Kingston did not play a role in the story, she views it as if she was a
bystander and narrates it from a third person perspective. Accordingly, she objectively describes the
lead up to her aunt s confrontation with the husband along with her eventual descent to madness while
she dip[s] into the thoughts or feelings of her aunt (Macauley and Lanning 143). In particular she
describes how her aunt would get into the mood before the confrontation and how she would
afterwards, become afraid and indeed mad (Kingston 144, 155, 159). The objective description of
Kingston s aunt s life in America allows the audience to see how her character changes before and
after the confrontation. Towards the end of the novel, Kingston switches back to a first person
perspective to describe her childhood in detail and more directly compared to the beginning. This is
essential in order to accurately depict the experience of a young Chinese girl growing up within an
American society. The readers are able to witness her childhood through the lens of Kingston as she is
an interpreter in [her] own individual way but has a lot of limitations (Macauley and Lanning 134,
136). In other words, she gives her insight on the circumstances that occur behind her

Reasons for Devotion to Hindu Goddesses
Reasons for devotion to Hindu goddesses Hinduism portrays feminine divinity in a more exalted way
than most other religions do. Though Hindu goddesses are usually depicted as consorts, wives or
companions to a Hindu god, cases exist in which they are worshipped independently; Tantrism for
example, where it is believed that women posses more spiritual power than men, thus men can achieve
divinity through union with a woman ( Tantrism ). Most villages reinforce the mother aspect of
goddesses and worship them individually as their protector, regarding them as having originated in the
area and thus being tied to the health and prosperity of the village (Caldwell). Others who may devote
themselves to a goddess might be in order to conquer or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kali then proceeds to kill all the asuras in a frenzied manner, later offering the heads of their leaders
Chanda and Munda to Durga. Her second appearance is in the follow chapter, where she battles
Raktabija, and assures success by sucking all of his blood so he could not reproduce anymore, per
Durga s command, while she slayed him ( Devimahatmya ch. 7 8). Another myth ties Kali with
Parvati, telling of an army of demons that threatens the safety of the world. Men cannot slay them, and
so Shiva calls for his wife to aid them in battle. Parvati accepts the responsibility, swallowing the
poison stored in Shiva s throat and morphing into Kali. However, she becomes too drunk with the
poison and, after defeating all the demons, threatens to destroy the world herself with her berserk
dance. In an attempt to subdue his wife, Shiva then lays on the floor in front of Kali, who in her
delirious state does not notice his presence and steps on him. Shamed that she had showed such
disgraceful behavior, she bites her tongue in humiliation. The last scene of the above tale is illustrated
in a lot of imagery, and while the tale itself has a lot of variations, many Hindus will arrive at the same
resolution. It is in this perception that many contradictions lie. Another question rises, What does Kali
s tongue biting really mean? Most Hindus will claim that it is to show shame, which is what the action
means in Bengali culture,

Emile Durkheim Analysis
Emile Durkheim would stand to say that we need social media, despite negative effects. He would
state that, although as an American culture centered around social media can cause us to be way too
focus on our internet lives , mass media plays a very important duty to the American people. It
provides everyone, with news, entertainment, and socialization. Durkheim questioned how our
societies maintain their internal stability and survive over time. And like a body s systems all working
together to create life, society and social media work together like the brain works with the heart.

The picture was first posted on Facebook in June of 2014. After introducing this mugshot to the
internet world, a wildfire of memes took place that were hooked on his attractiveness. About a week
after being arrested, a fundraising page for her Meeks legal defense was launched on the
crowdfunding website GoFundMe with a goal of $25,000. In the first five days alone, around over
$4,300 in donations were already received. A couple weeks after his arrest, ABC News held an
interview with Meeks in prison. After his mugshot went viral, there were twitter frenzies of hashtags
such as #FelonCrushFriday. He became an internet sensation solely based on his physical appearance.
This is a very common occurrence for society now days. Society values someone s physical
appearance more than who they are behind the mask. No one who retweeted this meme (which refers
to rape in a humorous way) stopped to think that maybe he was in jail for a serious crime (that we can
all come together to agree with is wrong) like murdering a young child or even rape. Society has been
molded to, in a way, to be more accepting of someone who is more attractive. Let s picture this
mugshot being of a dark skin African American with the same tattoos on his face, with nappy hair and
was not as attractive. People would either A) scroll past it, or B) focus on the charges. There would be
bias against him because he is not as appealing to the eye, even though his charge was speeding
tickets. Apart from society s value of appearance over content, because he is light skinned and
attractive we don t have prejudice against him. We tend to associate, as unfortunate as it may be,
darker skinned African Americans with heinous crimes and violence. Although the meme may make
light of Rape, we accept it and find it humorous because we have the mindset of Meeks is attractive
and light skinned, he can t have done something like rape.

Economic Hit Man By John Perkins was written in 2004, which reflects the increasing realization of
the corporate power of Halliburton and other transnational organizations that were destroying third

with Halliburton through his previous NSA connections in the U.S. intelligence services. In this

That self imposition can come in the form of irresponsibility in money wherein it is earned but
frequently wasted on self interests and addictions such as alcohol, gambling, and drugs. Another
possible cause for such a condition could also simply be laziness and an overall unwillingness to work
while accruing debts and not carrying the responsibility of the family he took upon himself. These
thoughts are quickly dispelled by the author however, as she changes her tone in the following lines;
You gave her all you had/ which was nothing. You had already given her/ all you had. (Clifton 15 16)
This line indicate a sudden change of tone in her poem where she goes from blaming her father to
possibly sympathizing with her father in believing he was put in a bad position and despite not having
much, he gave all of it to her mother. This line also marks a change in the poem for the narrator from
expressing her frustrations to possibly coming to terms with them and attempting to put her
experiences behind her and move

Human Population On Earth s Life
It is terrifying to realize that the human population on Earth has reached over 7.3 billion people. This
astonishing and constantly increasing amount of people threatens our planet s limited resources. It is
times like these that make me nostalgic for the feudal ages, where large populations of people were
decimated by illnesses such as the plague. The advances in modern medicine today, while extremely
impressive, are ultimately extremely detrimental to the human population as a whole because they
surprisingly help prevent people from dying. How dare they! Humans are starting to get a better
quality of life due to the many advances in medical technology and knowledge, but at what cost?
People won t die! The question is, why should we, as a society, try to prevent people from dying when
it s inevitable? In the animal kingdom, it s everyone for themselves, or survival of the fittest. If people
are too weak to fight off an illness, or too stupid to find a way to stay alive, then they should die.
There have been many other extremely knowledgeable humans who agree that eventually, the earth s
carrying capacity will no longer be able to keep up with population growth, and civilization will end
unless large swaths of human beings are killed, so the question is: How do we want to do this? In a
very credible and well esteemed publication, Dr. Edwin Peters, a Cambridge University ecologist
followed up this statement by asking a critical question: Do we want to give

The Quiet American Movie Vs Book
Philip Noyce s version of Graham Greene s novel The Quiet American to film was a large success. It
stayed pretty close to the book, and kept the personalities of the character s the same. What I respected
about the movie was that the director chose to film in actual Vietnamese locations and without
compromise, boldly sticking to the novel by not letting the Americans come out of the story too
kindly. It was filmed greatly and he captured so many details of Vietnam. Brenden Fraiser and
Michael Caine did an amazing job portraying their characters. The first difference that you can see is
that the book was in first person and the movie was in third. This being said, there were scenes added
into the movie that was not in the book. I wasn t disappointed ... Show more content on

He has negative outlook on what seems like everything. I personally had a hard time reading the book
because of the negativity from Fowler. Pyle in the book was the opposite. I was more interested in
Pyle because of his softer nature. What I like about Pyle is how he would stick up and defend Phuong
when Fowler made rude comments. Fowler said that Phuong was merely a beautiful tool for his sexual
pleasures. Pyle responded That s a dirty crack. I won t have her insulted. You have no right... (TQA,
Graham Greene, 1955, pg 78) This shows Pyle s passion and soft nature. Michael Caine is excellent as
Fowler in the movie. He plays an aging unmotivated but skilled reporter very good. On the other hand
Fowler in the film is a lot more vulnerable, especially as the film goes on, and his weaknesses begins
to show. The movie never shows Fowler telling Pyle how he feels about Phuong. He says that he is
detached but then becomes very involved in what is going on around him. With that action I feel it
shows that he does care about Phuong but doesn t know how to handle it. Thomas Fowler is a
complex character, and it is hard to compare him to his character in the book. The movie doesn t show
his personality and depth of character as the book does. The movie portrays him more likeable with
more dignity and less bitter. Fowler s character does still give us that deep sense of how the political
he is. Although I was disappointed because I feel they took a huge part of the book and tossed it out by

Developmental Changes Of Temporal And Spectral Parameters
Tatiana Lyons SLHS3305W Assignment Three 12/1/16 Research Article Critique Lee, Potamianos,
and Narayanan studied acoustics of children s speech: developmental changes of temporal and spectral
parameters in 1998. The researchers conducted the study to explore the relationships between different
aspects of speech (formant frequencies, fundamental frequency, and segmentation patterns) and age
and gender. Better understanding of these relationships would provide information that could be used
to improve technology used for speech recognition, which is necessary because speech recognition
technology often has trouble recognizing children s speech (p. 1455). In addition, the authors stated, a
more chronologically detailed acoustic database (p. 1455) could provide important information
regarding the relationships between developmental acoustic patterns and underlying anatomical and
neuromuscular development (p. 1455). Two hundred and twenty nine male speakers and 207 female
speakers in between the ages of five and 18 as well as 29 male speakers and 27 female speakers in
between the ages of 25 and 50 participated in the study. Researchers asked the participants to read five
different sentences off of a computer screen, and each sentence appeared twice in a session. Younger
participants read single words, and if a participant did not know how to read a particular word or
sentence, they listened to a recording. The words and sentences were chosen because they consisted

Psychosocial Stages In Antwone Fisher
The movie, Antwone Fisher, is a biography based off a real person named Antwone Fisher. It follows
the problems he lived through in his life. In the movie, Antwone goes through Erikson s Psychosocial
stages and solves many of the problems he had when growing up. Erik Erikson s stages of
Psychosocial Development is a theory that says every individual goes through eight stages throughout
their life as they get older. He states that every person has a crisis in each stage and the outcome of
each stage shapes how one is and how one will be for the rest of their lives. The first stage is trust
versus mistrust which occurs from birth to 1.5 years old. If an infant successfully develops trust, he or
she feels safe and secure. On the other hand, a child who fails to develop trust will feel afraid and that
the world is unpredictable all their life. It is clear that Antwone gained mistrust because he was born in
a prison and probably was not properly cared for. His father was never around him because he died
before he was born. An example of Antwone showing mistrust later in his life is in the beginning of
the movie. A white guy who was in the navy with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and feeling loved. Successful relationships are one that are enduring and secure. Having a strong sense
of self identity is important for developing intimate relationships according to Erickson. People in less
committed relationships are more likely to suffer emotional isolation, loneliness, and depression. At
first, Antwone is isolated. He was 25 and had never been in a relationship before and was still a virgin.

The Meaning Of The Assault Weapons
The public does not know the proper federal meaning of the assault weapon entirely. The abridged
definition of the assault weapon is that it is the semi automatic firearm similar to the military defense.
In the semi automatic assault weapon, the trigger is pulled for every shot before the rifle releases the
shell to send the new round that prepares the gun for the second shot (Jacobs 681). The military rifle
has some slight differences from the semi automatic rifle since it has the mechanics, which lets the fire
bullets constantly up to the time that the clip finishes the ammo. After pulling the trigger, the rifle will
fire without ending. The US government has regulated the assault weapons massively since 1934, yet
it does not address it in legislation prohibition.
In contrary, it is inevitable that the US government may ban the assault weapons from the civilian use
based on the current situation (Fox Monica 125). This issue is very disappointing since the current
survey indicates that the Americans never favor the ban on the assault weapons despite the fact that
they support the strong laws on the gun control. The issue raised has raised a considerable debate on
whether the government should ban the assault weapon or not. Some people support the idea while
others oppose it.
The evidence to support this issue is that the initial point of view involves the logical standpoint of
possessing the assault weapon. The design of the assault weapon is to kill various things

The United States Trade Policy
Since the early 1930s, tariff reduction has been the prevalent theme of United States trade policy. In
the future, economic historians will put an emphasis on the way the liberalization of trade over the
past forty to sixty years has molded this particular trade policy. Since 1930, tariffs have been gradually
reduced to roughly twenty percent of the regular level they were back then. This is a direct result of a
sequence of eight multilateral negotiations and around thirty bilateral agreements. However, in order
to completely understand why tariff reduction has been a prevalent theme since the 1930s, one must
consider the changes that have directly affected the Unites States backing of trade liberalization. There

belief that the United States must take the lead to address the lack of an open world economy during
the 1930s. It was believed by the party that this lack of an open world economy contributed to the
cause of the war. In the process to ratify a liberal international economic order, Democratic leaders

My Love For Dance
When I first started to dance my family was very supportive and helped me prepare. There was never
dancing in my household, dance was an interest I developed on my own. I have a very small family so
it s just me, my mom and dad so we do not have special events with music and dancing. My mom and
dad is very supportive of my dance aspirations. Especially my mom has pushed me during the times
that I no longer wanted to dance and she has encouraged me to keep dancing and keep trying my best.
When I was in my junior year of high school I was questioning if I wanted to dance anymore because
I wanted to feel the freedom of being a normal teenager and go out with friends after school and not
go to dance rehearsals all night long. My mom encouraged me to remember why I danced and that I
have a gift and I shouldn t waste it. Looking back at my experiences of balancing high school and
competition dance I do not regret it. I am very proud that I stuck with it. When ever I have rough day
at dance or am feeling frustrated with it I will always think back to what my mom had said to be and
channel her words of encouragement.
When I was 2 I started dancing and it was more of a let s put you in dance class because you will look
cute in the leotard and tutu but as I grew older I developed a passion and love for dance. The first time
I danced outside my house was at a dance studio not far from my house. The studio is called The

Explain how an individual with dementia can be enabled to exercise their rights and choices even
when a decision has not been deemed to be in their best interests. Good communication with the
individual should be enhanced. Both individual and carer must compromise and negotiate to what

must acknowledge the benefits of their choices. This is a way of recognising rights and choices of the
individual. One example is the resident s choice not to use his/her walking frame. This is one conflict

Noise Induced Hearing Loss In Firefighters
Noise induced hearing loss is a common and irreversible occupational hazard that affects a large
number of individuals in a variety of professions (Fligor, 2011). In particular, firefighters are routinely
exposed to loud sounds through sirens, air horns, alarms, and tools as well as hazardous chemicals that
can have an ototoxic effect on the auditory system (Kardous Afanuh, 2013). Due the excessive noise
levels most firefighters are exposed to, firefighters view noise exposure and hearing loss as an
inevitable aspect of their career (Kang, Hong, Kim, Yoon, 2015). Consequently, hearing loss is more
prevalent in firefighters than in the general population and presents characteristics that are slightly
different than noise induced hearing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As found in by Hong et al. (2013a), firefighters are more likely to use hearing protection if their
administrators encourage HPD use and use them while they work. Therefore, fire departments can
prevent hearing loss by simply encouraging HPD use. In addition to supporting HPD use, fire
departments should employ hearing conservation programs that include education programs on the
risks of hearing loss and the benefits of HPD use as well as mandatory annual hearing screenings
(Hong et al., 2013a; Meyer, 2012). Education programs and hearing screenings can help in the
prevention of noise induced hearing loss in firefighters by identifying hearing losses early and
informing firefighters of ways to avoid hearing loss before it occurs. Furthermore, fire departments
can select gear and equipment that blocks or reduces noise, air conditioned or closed cab fire trucks to
reduce driving with the windows down, and positioning siren on the front of the truck (Hong Samo,
2007). These measures will prevent noise induced hearing loss by reducing the amount of noise
firefighters are exposed to. While fire departments are not required to implement hearing protection
programs, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) released four
recommendations for reducing noise induced hearing loss in firefighters. These recommendations
include noise emission

Deviance From Sociological Perspective
Deviance according to sociologist is the behavior the one part takes in the that is not the norm, and can
generate a negative reaction from certain groups. From a sociological perspective deviance is
important because it reveals about the society we live in. Deviance requires us to examine and analyze
why certain people and even certain groups chose to partake in a certain manor. By examining
deviancent behavior we also recognize what the norm is. Labeling theory through a deviant approach
states that deviance is caused by others people s judgment of them, meaning that when a label is put

cheating would still be classified as deviant. It would be classified as deviant in the sense that cheating
is wrong and one should not partake in it. But it can also be classified as non deviant because so many
people have cheated that it became the norm, and deviance is only behavior that is not the norm. In
that sense it wouldn t be deviane. Personally I believe that even more than half of the students have
confessed to cheating we should still deem it as deviant behavior because if we don t then more people

Drug Drugs And The New Zealand Party Scene

Assignment 2: Legal Highs
Pre 2008 Legal Highs were the crux of the New Zealand party scene. Legal highs like Party Pills and
Synthetic cannabis have since been reclassified as class C drugs and have been pulled off the shelves
of all retailers in New Zealand. Since the psychoactive substances act 2013 there has always been the
looming suspicion that the drugs will make their way back onto the shelves, by bending their way
around the law or in the underground scene. The 2013 psychoactive substances act states the new legal
high drugs must have limited regulation in the form of licensing and pre release human
experimentation to test substance effects proving that they are safe or unsafe. Prior to this legal highs
were posed as an experimental way to try cull the sale of illicit drugs; but after such drugs as BZP
showed their harmful effects, this had to be restricted.

Selfish Motivations In Primeval Forest
In class, how we defined what it meant to be a missionary was an individual responding to a need, a
call to serve. From time to time, the area in which the missionary is called to serve is a foreign land,
where they would have to start anew and sacrifice some of their own privilege interests. In general,
when people think about missionaries, or what it means to be a missionary, they picture a kind person,
sympathetic to those around them. Someone who wants to work to better the conditions of livelihood
to those they will be serving. Missionaries are to be moral people, or organizations, looking to serve
for the better good. However, through the media discussed in class, the main points of comparisons
shed a new light on the term of becoming a missionary: the sincere, wholesome imagery of
missionaries soon start to fade. Instead, Primeval Forest and Mosquito Coast show the darker side of
doing missions: selfishness and self satisfaction. In all three works seen or discussed in/for class, the
main protagonists had selfish motivations to travel abroad. In Primeval Forest, there seems to be a
sense of ennui of the doctor s life within the first page of the book. Having grown accustomed to the
daily routine and what he saw every day, he decided to embark on a new journey for a life in Africa.

How Did Cleopatra Changed History

How and why has the depiction of Cleopatra changed over the course of history?
Cleopatra was the last pharaoh of Egypt. She is famous in Western culture because of her alleged
affairs with Julius Caesar and Marc Antony, these affairs are, which over the years have been
famously depicted as political decisions. Cleopatra was a strong, intelligent leader, and was very good
at gaining and keeping political power. She believed that women deserved power as much as men,
since she would not rule Egypt equally with her brother. Primary sources such as paintings and
sculptures have presented her as an extravagant and beautiful woman. In the 20th century Cleopatra s

Only selections of coins depict her and a few busts are believed to portray the Egyptian queen, but
these cannot be verified. However, almost everyone in the Western world could conjure a picture of
Cleopatra if asked to do so. But without question this image will be of an actress portraying the queen
on film. Cleopatra has been a central character in over fifteen major films and countless television
programmes. The first cinematic portrayal of Cleopatra was in the silent film of 1917 starring
seductive actress Theda Bara. At the time this film was made it was the most expensive film to be
made, this was due to the films opulent sets and costumes. However dues to some of the costumes the
Hay Movie Codes deemed the film risqué the film is partially lost as the last known prints were burnt
by a fire that happened at Fox Studios and Museum of Modern Art in New York. However a few
fragments of the film survived. This may have been the first cause of the dramatic pattern of change in
the perception of Cleopatra as a sexualised entity. Another portrayal of Cleopatra that has changed the
perception of Cleopatra is the 1945 film Caesar and Cleopatra directed by Gabriel Pascal. The film the
first colorized film of Cleopatra, unlike most other versions of Cleopatra, this version is a romantic

As citizens, we are all called out to make political choices during elections thus vote when required.
But not all citizens vote during elections. In this assignment, we will study the voter turnout for the
march 2016 primary elections for the republican and democratic parties based on the Harris country
reports for the county itself has a whole and more specifically other voter precinct that are concerned
by certain voters for this assignment. After my researches, I found on the voting precinct 0272 my
street address belongs to which is Briarhurst Drive. According to the reports , the primary that got
more voters county wide is the Republican primary which had 329,768 voters out of 2,081,781 while
the Democrat primary had 227,280 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One not voting implicitly means consenting to whatever idea proposed during the electoral campaigns
thus that will give more chance to whatever party to win as its voters in favor of them will count more
than those who did not vote and that was the case for the 2016 elections. It is considered more
dangerous not to vote than voting blank, at least the government and those in charge of the elections
could notice and accept that even though the voters did not choose anyone at least he or she tried to
make her voice be heard and that is one main factor of an improving society. Moreover, in order to
increase voter turnout, we as a society, first should try to understand why some people decide not to
vote. As we understand increasingly what the problem we could find better solutions and also could
choose and construct better representatives and ideologies that would push the abstainers to vote. As
the fair vote website explains it we should think about outcomes that better represent the diverse
beliefs of the electorate thus focus on better ideologies (Fair Vote, n.d.). The website also proposes an
alternative named the Universal Voter registration which would modernize voter registration.
Furthermore, the Fair vote website proposes a National Popular vote which according to the website,
would expand presidential campaigns from just ten states to all 50 , that would increase the turnout in
certain areas that probably were not included in the campaign as there

Alice In Wonderland Comparative Essay
Whether or not the adaptation of Tim Burton s Alice in Wonderland is more engaging than the original
novel by Lewis Carroll, both still use similar structural elements that set the reader/viewers mind on
the text at hand. The inclusion of a stronger plot provided by the visual text enhances the viewers
understanding, especially for a young audience. A way that Tim Burton s text is more engaging is that
children, being younger and less mature are more likely to be drawn to view a visual text that s much
simpler set of characters and be able to understand them better. On the other hand, Lewis Carroll s text
is also going to engage a younger audience with the inclusion of descriptive language. Children are
more likely to be drawn to and stay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both stories feature a dream that Alice has (at the start in the film and at the end in the novel) the
feature her entering Wonderland after following a white Rabbit that was speaking and checking his
pocket watch. Point being, that because they both share very, very similar storylines so they would
engage viewers equally. Similar structural elements such as an introduction, problem, solution and a
conclusion that contain similar content that would make both of them similarly engaging. Reason
being that because they have the similar events that fit into the same portions / sections that would
make the reader engaged. The visual aspects of both texts are what make each text complete as in the
written version of the book you have smaller picture that assist the conveyance of the story that is
trying to be explained. On the other hand, you have the visual text that solely relies on the use of
visual aspects to convey the message, and uses words / speech as an assistant to the visual part of the

The Controversy Surrounding Genetically Engineered Foods...
Food Biotechnology
There is much controversy surrounding genetically engineered (GE) foods and the use of
biotechnology. However, they offer many scientifically proven advantages that could have a dramatic
impact on world hunger and our environment in the near future. At the same time, the public is asking
many good questions and raising concerns about what long term negative effects genetically
engineered foods may have on the population s health and the environment. Never the less, based on
the following list, the advantages biotechnology currently provides, seems to out way the potential
disadvantages they could impose on our future.
Advantages of Biotechnology:
1. Genetically engineered fruits and vegetables provide extended shelf lives, which allow farmers to
harvest them at the peak of flavor and nutrition. The result is a better quality product, which is
produced with less waste, can be transported farther for sale and provides more profits for farmers. (1,
3)
2. Using a strategy called biofortification; scientists are able to genetically alter crops to fortify
themselves with key vitamins and minerals versus having to fortify them during the food processing
phase. The long term success of biofortification could effectively eliminate nutrient deficiency
diseases around the world. (1)
3. Foods can be processed more efficiently when they are genetically engineered. Production elements
themselves can be genetically engineered, which can saves time, money and space.

The Impact Of Japanese American Internment
On February 10 1942, After the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, President Franklin Roosevelt
signed Executive order 9066 fearing that the Japanese Americans would be more loyal to Japan and
attack the US. The president ordered all Japanese Americans to evacuate the west coast. Following the
internment, many news articles had been written. For this essay, I have found two news articles that
are connected to the constitutional issues that arose because of Executive order 9066. The news
articles are from the Los Angeles times and New York Times. Both articles covered the constitutional
issues of the internment of Japanese Americans; however, both articles addressed different situations.
The La Times reported that President Roosevelt wanted reprimanding ... Show more content on

This article is about the bill that president Truman applied for the end of the internment of Japanese
Americans and claiming the damages during the internment camp. As it appears in the article,
Democratic leaders planned to force votes before the session ends on a measure recommended by the
interior department s setting up a three man commission to compensate evacuees for real estate and
other property losses incurred when they were evacuated , which shows that President Truman and the
Democrats party tried to end the allegation by signing the Japanese American Evacuation Claims Act.
Eventually, Congress accepted the bill which was unexpected by many people. The President gave his
opinion about the congresses unexpected approval and said it would in my opinion be a tragic
anomaly if the united states were on the one hand...on the other hand it ignored and left underdressed
the very real and grievous losses which some of them, together with their immediate families have
suffered because of government action during the same war . According the article, The President
played a big role for the freedom for Japanese Americas and reimbursement to the losses that
happened during the

Animal Farm s Utopian Society
Animal Farm s Utopian Society Animal Farm by George Orwell is a novel detailing a farm s
revolution as the animals fight to take back what is theirs and keep it for themselves rather than supply
a farmer and his needs. The animals succeed in recapturing their farm, and one of the first things they
do is set up a list of seven commandments to provide structure to their utopian society. By the end of
the book, one realizes that the utopian society the animals set up was riddled with holes, and this leads
one to wonder if a utopian is ever really achievable. The purpose of this essay is to discuss Animal
Farm s flaws in its utopian society and the idea of the utopian society as a whole. To begin, one of the
main flaws of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Utopian societies are unreachable and unattainable, and will surely turn into dystopian societies, just
like Animal Farm. In brief, the society created in Animal Farm was condemned from the first
commandment and the first appointment of its leaders. Trying to live life on a farm without the aid or
contact with humans was illogical in itself. As previously stated, a farm cannot sustain on its own. The
animals were foolish to think it could. The leading of Snowball and Napoleon also led to the
destruction of the farm s utopian society. They couldn t possibly do any good for the farm because
they were too busy arguing at the Sunday debates. All in all, a utopian society is not achievable, at
least not in the near future. Equality cannot possibly be reached because a society needs a leader,
which is against the idea of equality. Everyone also cannot be pleased at the same time because it is
against human nature. Animal Farm never could have been a true utopian society; it was doomed
before it had even

Theme Of Secrecy In The Scarlet Letter
Have you ever tried to keep a secret? Not only is it difficult because you have to hide it all the time so
it doesn t slip out, it also takes a toll on your body because of stress. It causes you to stress all the time
about it coming out. The Scarlet Letter is no different. This novel shows the damage of secrecy on
relationships, physical health, and community status. There are many aspects to relationships that The
Scarlet Letter addresses. Husband wife, mother child, adulterer adulteress, individual town, and the
list goes on and on. The most obvious damage that secrecy can cause to relationships is what the book
is about: adultery. A husband or wife keeping an affair secret. This damages marriages, and in this
book, it also damaged a mother and her child. Hester almost lost her daughter because Pearl was the
product of an affair. Once someone has been unfaithful the damage is done. Unfortunately, only Hester
suffered the stigma of Adulteress, as she was the only one with external signs of the act. ... Show more

The Arab Spring And Its Aftermath Essay
The Arab Spring and its aftermath have become one of the most influential events of the twenty first
century. The series of revolutions reshaped several governments within the Middle East by outing long
reigning dictators that the people had become progressively frustrated with. The Arab Spring both
aligns with and contradicts several previous waves of revolution and is truly a twenty first century
conflict because of the role that modern technology played. Through studying the Arab Spring,
political scientists have been given a glimpse into what future revolutions might look like, especially
in regards to the expanding role of social media. In order for revolutions to occur, there must be
several necessary structural conditions, which were all present during the Arab Spring. First, there
must be fiscal strain, which is often caused by demographic changes within the region (Goldstone
2014). Many Middle Eastern countries during the early twenty first century experienced a youth bulge
due to policies encouraging childbirth (Amar and Prashad 2013) . This new wave of young people,
especially the young men, were unable to find jobs and the subsequent financial stability (Amar and
Prashad 2013). This led to dissatisfaction with the government and frustration that would soon turn
into anger once a specific queue, according to relative deprivation theory, ignited the group (Gurr
1970). This queue was in the form of the self immolation of a fruit seller named Mohamed Bouazizi

Horses of the Wild West and the World Essay
Domestication of the horse took place 5 6,000 years ago, near the end of the Neolithic period. It is
almost certain that it first took place in Eurasia, through the nomadic Aryan tribes, around the Black
and Caspian Seas. It is from this point in the history of the world that the existence of truly wild horses
begins to decline; their place taken by domestic stock. Horses are located all over the world,
depending on their location and the traits they poses; they have all since been given specific breeds.
The closest living relative to the horses of today is the Asiatic Wild Horses. These horses are better
known as the przewalskii horses, which were discovered by Nicolai Mikhailovitch Przewalskii in
1879. Within 10 years of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between 1884 and 1911 imported stallions, as well as some mares, were introduced to the wild herds.
The horses established breeding colonies, and were rounded up regularly to be sent to the mainland.
Today, there are 2 3,000 horses on the island, divided among different stallions. The horses coat color
is mainly bay, followed by chestnut, but there are also some palominos, browns, and blacks. The
horses stand around 14 hands, and are still acknowledged for being one of the toughest breeds in the
world. The islands of Chincoteague and Assateague are inhabited by wild stock. Majority of the
ponies live on Assateague, which is now a National Park. In 1933 the islands were managed by the
Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department, who looked after the well being of the ponies. The Federal
Fish and Wildlife Service was introduced to the islands in 1943, to protect the wild fowl and seabird
populations. The needs of the ponies were not entirely compatible with the needs of the birds; and
when the FFWS fenced off its government built pools in an effort to preserve the wild fowl habitat the
ponies were greatly affected. The fencing of the pools confined the ponies to a small low lying marshy
part of the island and reduced the grazing areas substantially. The ponies were also denied access to
the sea, which is where they went to in the summer to avoid mosquitoes. Due to the

Jamaica Kincaid
Girl by Jamaica Kincaid and If by Rudyard Kipling are 2 poems that have a parent writing to their kid
trying to teach them in a different way. In Girl , there is a mother writing to her daughter to tell her
directions to become the perfect girl. In If , the father writes to his son to teach very important life
lessons. These two poems have a similar topic but a different setting and theme. There is going to be
some evidence and reasoning to back up the similarity and differences. A similarity between the
poems is the topic of parents writing to their children to teach them. At the very end in Girl , it states
you mean to say that after all, you are really going to be the kind of women who the baker won t let
near the bread? Similarly, in If, And which is more, you ll be a man my son! which was stated in the
last stanza. This evidence first shows a parent speaking to their child. Secondly, it shows the writing of
the parents to teach their kids in their own ways. Both parents are speaking for a meaning. This topic
runs through both of these poems that shows parent speaking to their kids for a reason. ... Show more

Cusco Vs Peru
The city of Cusco, Peru covers around 150 square miles in total; to contrast, Lima, Peru is over six
times that size (Cartwright). Many people wonder how they could be alike at all, and without the
immense Peruvian pride throughout both cities, they would appear alien to each other. The two most
well known Peruvian cities are different in too many ways to count. Cusco used to be the center of the
Incan Empire and is known for its ancient ruins that are overflowing with history, while Lima s parks
and street art are beautiful examples of modern art and pull dozens of different cultures together. Lima
and Cusco differ in an infinite number of ways, but both cities stand out, especially when it comes to
food, attractions, and city life.

Peru as a whole is known for speaking very clear and easy to understand Spanish. Many say that it is
the easiest to speak and understand. Overall, Peruvians have mild accents and speak slower than their
neighboring countries, such as Colombia and Chile. Although slang exists in both cities, it is not only
simple and self explanatory, but they are also words and phrases used throughout the country. For
example, in both parts of the country, the word flaca, which is literally translated to skinny, means
girlfriend. On the same note, the word guachimán means watchman in Peru. In parts of South
America, changing cities means learning an entire new language, but in Peru, that is not necessary. If
one studies Spanish in Lima, he would easily be able to use the vocabulary and slang from Lima in
Cusco without a

Paradise Lost Character Analysis
In the story of Paradise Lost by John Milton, many of the fallen angels exhibit certain qualities that
could be interpreted as virtues. Some of these qualities include courage, justice, and perseverance.
However, many say these characters are meant to be portrayed as completely evil, which leaves a
reader wondering as to why they display a certain level of morality. It is obvious that the characters
believe that they have been wronged and are seeking justice for themselves against what they view as
a tyrant of the heavens. However, when reading the text, I noticed that John Milton gave the fallen
angels many human like qualities, making it impossible to have any wholly evil characters.
Throughout the entire story, Milton illustrates the fallen angels as having both physical and mental
resemblance to humans. He even goes as far as to discuss Satan s physiognomy in the first book,
saying, ...but his face deep scars of thunder had entrenched, and care sat on his faded cheek, but under
brows of dauntless courage, and considerate pride waiting revenge... (1. 600 604). This goes to show
that Milton at the very least has a picture of the fallen angels in his mind s eye as being human in
appearance. As well as this, Satan also brings up an interesting argument regarding the mind, asserting
that the mind if its own place, and in itself can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven (1. 254 255).
In this quote, he is essentially saying that attitude has everything to do with one s

  • 2. Analysis Of Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself Walt Whitman s Song of Myself helps inspire my body and soul, activates my mind, and encourages individual discovery for the sake of creating a better world for all to live in. It also acts as a form of instruction for becoming an American in ideal and in action. Through his free form verse and tone that reflects more of a wizened and rosy cheeked grandfather than controversial poet, Whitman s writing acts as a refreshing breath to all, including myself, that are searching for an empathetic peace of mind. I celebrate myself, and sing myself,/ And what I assume you shall assume,/ For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you./ , Whitman begins, inviting the reader to a conversation by the fireside, as we are equal in spirit, matter, and creation, which should obviously be celebrated and shared. Whitman provides a view of the world around him in which every action, person, object, and event is held as a miracle. He harkens back to Emersonian ideals of the divine being a part of all, reflecting, I hear and behold God in every object, yet understand God not in the least, and further on, I see something of God each hour of the twenty four, and each moment then . This challenges me to open my mind to a worldview not limited to my own origin or upbringing, but to view the world with a universal love and positive connection. This includes looking onto traditionally repulsive concepts, including body odor, the butcher shedding his clothes, and a prostitute stricken with pox, as signs of the divine. Pages are dedicated to describing the sights he assigns as portions of the song of myself . He, and by extension, me, have a personal connection to the boy that lies awake in the cedar roof d garret and harks to the musical rain , and have just as close a bond to the aforementioned prostitute as her bonnet bobs on her tipsy and pimpled neck . John Paul Jones is as much a part of us as the numberless unknown heroes that have perished without memory. All are equal parts of himself and myself, as every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you. Whitman wrote in a manner to educate every person, and more specifically, every American, on how to embrace each moment and forge a path to understand their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, at night if Atticus wakes up, he will more than likely get up and check on Jem and Scout. An example of Atticus is very protective is that Atticus always does his best to make sure his kids are happy and safe. One way to show that is when it was very cold outside; Atticus put more coal in the fire and put blankets on Jem and Scout to warm them up. Atticus also asks multiple questions before or after Jem and Scout do something like where they were, or what they were doing to make sure they are staying out of trouble. Lastly, Atticus always keeps a very close eye on his kids, especially Scout because they are really all he has,and Atticus would like to always keep them safe. Another asset of Atticus parenting skill is that he disciplines Jem and Scout in a way that if very effective, and helpful. The reason why his parenting is effective is that he uses his words, never violence. Jem said that he has never gotten spanked, so Atticus probably does not like using violence on Jem and Scout. Also, Atticus yells at his kids if they are doing anything bad to get them to realize what they are doing wrong. Lastly, when Atticus gets mad, he is strict enough to get Jem and Scout to listen to him, but not too strict that it is mean. Atticus is also a very wise man, so whenever he has the opportunity to share something with Jem and Scout, he does, and it is usually when they get in trouble and it ... • 7. Examples Of Anger In Seneca ANGER/SENECA Anger is a strong emotion that everyone has inside them. It s also a vice because it s one of our bad sides. Anger mostly makes people lose control of themselves and drives them to act violently. As Seneca agrees and mentions, we can consider anger as a short madness because even if it s for one second of rage we feel, we go mad. We can t think properly and due to that we can t act properly. Seneca says Anger is the desire of revenge, not the power and faculty of it. and Those who think of injuring us are already considered as they injured us because they did it in conceit. The opportunity is that CNS has a product that may not withstand the test of time. The CNS Company may need to look at extending their product line beyond the strips, vaporizers and fiber tablets. • 9. Analysis Of Peggy Mcintoth And Male Privilege In Peggy McIntosh s White Privilege and Male Privilege, she as a white woman herself was one of the first people to acknowledge that white privilege is a phenomenon that is commonly overlooked in the white race and made a point to think of many instances where white privilege was prominent. Peggy McIntosh defines white privilege as, an invisible package of unearned assets that I can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was meant to remain oblivious. White privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks . To interpret this, she is saying that white privilege is an unacknowledged idea with so many different parts and pieces to it, it is hard to classify it as just one thing. When she goes on in the article listing situations where because of white privilege she would not have to be concerned about the outcome; example 41 stated, I can be sure that if I need legal or medical help, my race will not work against me (McIntosh). This example can be related to Brock Turners case given the situation of him having legal trouble and having more things go for him during his trial rather than having people working against him. It seems that the white race lives focusing on normalcy and convenience, that when they are in a situation to help others they aim to make them more like themselves (McIntosh). It only makes me wonder, how do they act when a more serious situation such as rape is introduced, how it affects them. It seems that in tough situations, white privilege itself works to show dominance and power over certain groups. In Allan R. White s article Privilege, he takes a similar stance to McIntosh in regard to the fact that privilege does not take one specific form. Although White does not primarily focus on the aspects of white privilege, it is important to understand both parts of the phrase to get an understanding of its whole definition. It is helpful to look at the word privilege separate from race to understand the forms it can potentially take. Allan White defines privilege as, A notion coordinate with right, duty, liberty, power, and immunity that someone or something has in virtue of being singled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Who Is Better Than Stand-Up Comedy We are living in a time where it seems as if we as a people cannot agree on anything. We are living what appears to be a turbulent time in a nation that is dividing further and further apart. With all the terrible things going on in the nation we all need an escape from time to time. To me one of the best escapes form the chaos in the world is laughter. What better way to get that laughter delivered to you, than stand up comedy? Over the years I have not met many people that do not enjoy going to a comedy show. Is it really worth it to spend an exorbitant amount of money on a ticket to go watch a world famous comedian in an arena or a theater? I am not trying to say that those shows are not fun and that those comedians do not deserve to have us go watch them, they worked hard to get there. What I am saying is, that going to a comedy club setting is a much more enjoyable experience. Instead of spending an arm and a leg on a ticket. You can spend a fraction of the price and probably get friends to come along with you. It is so much better to sit at a table full of friends instead of in a row in a cramped chair next to strangers. With the money you saved, you and your friends can go out to eat before, and order more drinks at your table at the show. There is not much better than getting dressed up and going out and having a fun night with a group of loved ones. Many people are afraid of going into intimate settings for fear of being picked on by the comedians on stage. I am here to tell you, that the vast majority of comedians do not pick on the crowd. It is already hard enough to get a crowd there, why would they make them not feel comfortable. They do however, interact with the crowd making the show more inclusive. Something that you would not get at an arena or theater show, unless you buy front row tickets. A different perspective is utilized in each chapter depending on the focus of the story being told. For instance, Kingston describes any experiences of her childhood in first person. On the other hand, any story that focuses on her mother or her family in general is told in third person. By doing this, she is able to convey each story from the viewpoint that best describes the story whether it be from the perspective of a young girl or an omniscient narrator. In particular she describes how her aunt would get into the mood before the confrontation and how she would afterwards, become afraid and indeed mad (Kingston 144, 155, 159). The objective description of Kingston s aunt s life in America allows the audience to see how her character changes before and after the confrontation. Towards the end of the novel, Kingston switches back to a first person perspective to describe her childhood in detail and more directly compared to the beginning. Though Hindu goddesses are usually depicted as consorts, wives or companions to a Hindu god, cases exist in which they are worshipped independently; Tantrism for example, where it is believed that women posses more spiritual power than men, thus men can achieve divinity through union with a woman ( Tantrism ). Her second appearance is in the follow chapter, where she battles Raktabija, and assures success by sucking all of his blood so he could not reproduce anymore, per Durga s command, while she slayed him ( Devimahatmya ch. 7 8). Another myth ties Kali with Parvati, telling of an army of demons that threatens the safety of the world. Men cannot slay them, and so Shiva calls for his wife to aid them in battle. Parvati accepts the responsibility, swallowing the poison stored in Shiva s throat and morphing into Kali. However, she becomes too drunk with the poison and, after defeating all the demons, threatens to destroy the world herself with her berserk dance. The advances in modern medicine today, while extremely impressive, are ultimately extremely detrimental to the human population as a whole because they surprisingly help prevent people from dying. How dare they! Humans are starting to get a better quality of life due to the many advances in medical technology and knowledge, but at what cost? People won t die! The question is, why should we, as a society, try to prevent people from dying when it s inevitable? In the animal kingdom, it s everyone for themselves, or survival of the fittest. If people are too weak to fight off an illness, or too stupid to find a way to stay alive, then they should die. There have been many other extremely knowledgeable humans who agree that eventually, the earth s carrying capacity will no longer be able to keep up with population growth, and civilization will end unless large swaths of human beings are killed, so the question is: How do we want to do this? In a very credible and well esteemed publication, Dr. Edwin Peters, a Cambridge University ecologist followed up this statement by asking a critical question: Do we want to give ... • 22. The Quiet American Movie Vs Book Philip Noyce s version of Graham Greene s novel The Quiet American to film was a large success. It stayed pretty close to the book, and kept the personalities of the character s the same. What I respected about the movie was that the director chose to film in actual Vietnamese locations and without compromise, boldly sticking to the novel by not letting the Americans come out of the story too kindly. It was filmed greatly and he captured so many details of Vietnam. Brenden Fraiser and Michael Caine did an amazing job portraying their characters. The first difference that you can see is that the book was in first person and the movie was in third. This being said, there were scenes added into the movie that was not in the book. I personally had a hard time reading the book because of the negativity from Fowler. Pyle in the book was the opposite. I was more interested in Pyle because of his softer nature. What I like about Pyle is how he would stick up and defend Phuong when Fowler made rude comments. Fowler said that Phuong was merely a beautiful tool for his sexual pleasures. Pyle responded That s a dirty crack. I won t have her insulted. You have no right... (TQA, Graham Greene, 1955, pg 78) This shows Pyle s passion and soft nature. Michael Caine is excellent as Fowler in the movie. He plays an aging unmotivated but skilled reporter very good. On the other hand Fowler in the film is a lot more vulnerable, especially as the film goes on, and his weaknesses begins to show. The movie never shows Fowler telling Pyle how he feels about Phuong. He says that he is detached but then becomes very involved in what is going on around him. With that action I feel it shows that he does care about Phuong but doesn t know how to handle it. Thomas Fowler is a complex character, and it is hard to compare him to his character in the book. The movie doesn t show his personality and depth of character as the book does. The movie portrays him more likeable with more dignity and less bitter. Fowler s character does still give us that deep sense of how the political he is. Developmental Changes Of Temporal And Spectral Parameters Tatiana Lyons SLHS3305W Assignment Three 12/1/16 Research Article Critique Lee, Potamianos, and Narayanan studied acoustics of children s speech: developmental changes of temporal and spectral parameters in 1998. The researchers conducted the study to explore the relationships between different aspects of speech (formant frequencies, fundamental frequency, and segmentation patterns) and age and gender. Better understanding of these relationships would provide information that could be used to improve technology used for speech recognition, which is necessary because speech recognition technology often has trouble recognizing children s speech (p. 1455). In addition, the authors stated, a more chronologically detailed acoustic database (p. 1455) could provide important information regarding the relationships between developmental acoustic patterns and underlying anatomical and neuromuscular development (p. 1455). Two hundred and twenty nine male speakers and 207 female speakers in between the ages of five and 18 as well as 29 male speakers and 27 female speakers in between the ages of 25 and 50 participated in the study. Researchers asked the participants to read five different sentences off of a computer screen, and each sentence appeared twice in a session. Younger participants read single words, and if a participant did not know how to read a particular word or sentence, they listened to a recording. In the movie, Antwone goes through Erikson s Psychosocial stages and solves many of the problems he had when growing up. Erik Erikson s stages of Psychosocial Development is a theory that says every individual goes through eight stages throughout their life as they get older. He states that every person has a crisis in each stage and the outcome of each stage shapes how one is and how one will be for the rest of their lives. The first stage is trust versus mistrust which occurs from birth to 1.5 years old. If an infant successfully develops trust, he or she feels safe and secure. On the other hand, a child who fails to develop trust will feel afraid and that the world is unpredictable all their life. It is clear that Antwone gained mistrust because he was born in a prison and probably was not properly cared for. His father was never around him because he died before he was born. • 25. The Meaning Of The Assault Weapons The public does not know the proper federal meaning of the assault weapon entirely. The abridged definition of the assault weapon is that it is the semi automatic firearm similar to the military defense. In the semi automatic assault weapon, the trigger is pulled for every shot before the rifle releases the shell to send the new round that prepares the gun for the second shot (Jacobs 681). The military rifle has some slight differences from the semi automatic rifle since it has the mechanics, which lets the fire bullets constantly up to the time that the clip finishes the ammo. After pulling the trigger, the rifle will fire without ending. The US government has regulated the assault weapons massively since 1934, yet it does not address it in legislation prohibition. In contrary, it is inevitable that the US government may ban the assault weapons from the civilian use based on the current situation (Fox Monica 125). This issue is very disappointing since the current survey indicates that the Americans never favor the ban on the assault weapons despite the fact that they support the strong laws on the gun control. The issue raised has raised a considerable debate on whether the government should ban the assault weapon or not. Some people support the idea while others oppose it. The evidence to support this issue is that the initial point of view involves the logical standpoint of possessing the assault weapon. The design of the assault weapon is to kill various things ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As found in by Hong et al. (2013a), firefighters are more likely to use hearing protection if their administrators encourage HPD use and use them while they work. In addition to supporting HPD use, fire departments should employ hearing conservation programs that include education programs on the risks of hearing loss and the benefits of HPD use as well as mandatory annual hearing screenings (Hong et al., 2013a; Meyer, 2012). Education programs and hearing screenings can help in the prevention of noise induced hearing loss in firefighters by identifying hearing losses early and informing firefighters of ways to avoid hearing loss before it occurs. Furthermore, fire departments can select gear and equipment that blocks or reduces noise, air conditioned or closed cab fire trucks to reduce driving with the windows down, and positioning siren on the front of the truck (Hong Samo, 2007). From time to time, the area in which the missionary is called to serve is a foreign land, where they would have to start anew and sacrifice some of their own privilege interests. In general, when people think about missionaries, or what it means to be a missionary, they picture a kind person, sympathetic to those around them. Someone who wants to work to better the conditions of livelihood to those they will be serving. Missionaries are to be moral people, or organizations, looking to serve for the better good. However, through the media discussed in class, the main points of comparisons shed a new light on the term of becoming a missionary: the sincere, wholesome imagery of missionaries soon start to fade. Reason being that because they have the similar events that fit into the same portions / sections that would make the reader engaged. The visual aspects of both texts are what make each text complete as in the written version of the book you have smaller picture that assist the conveyance of the story that is trying to be explained. • 41. The Controversy Surrounding Genetically Engineered Foods... Food Biotechnology There is much controversy surrounding genetically engineered (GE) foods and the use of biotechnology. However, they offer many scientifically proven advantages that could have a dramatic impact on world hunger and our environment in the near future. At the same time, the public is asking many good questions and raising concerns about what long term negative effects genetically engineered foods may have on the population s health and the environment. Never the less, based on the following list, the advantages biotechnology currently provides, seems to out way the potential disadvantages they could impose on our future. Advantages of Biotechnology: 1. Genetically engineered fruits and vegetables provide extended shelf lives, which allow farmers to harvest them at the peak of flavor and nutrition. The result is a better quality product, which is produced with less waste, can be transported farther for sale and provides more profits for farmers. (1, 3) 2. Using a strategy called biofortification; scientists are able to genetically alter crops to fortify themselves with key vitamins and minerals versus having to fortify them during the food processing phase. The long term success of biofortification could effectively eliminate nutrient deficiency diseases around the world. (1) 3. Foods can be processed more efficiently when they are genetically engineered. Production elements themselves can be genetically engineered, which can saves time, money and space. ... • 42. The Impact Of Japanese American Internment On February 10 1942, After the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, President Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive order 9066 fearing that the Japanese Americans would be more loyal to Japan and attack the US. The president ordered all Japanese Americans to evacuate the west coast. Following the internment, many news articles had been written. For this essay, I have found two news articles that are connected to the constitutional issues that arose because of Executive order 9066. The news articles are from the Los Angeles times and New York Times. Both articles covered the constitutional issues of the internment of Japanese Americans; however, both articles addressed different situations. The La Times reported that President Roosevelt wanted reprimanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This article is about the bill that president Truman applied for the end of the internment of Japanese Americans and claiming the damages during the internment camp. As it appears in the article, Democratic leaders planned to force votes before the session ends on a measure recommended by the interior department s setting up a three man commission to compensate evacuees for real estate and other property losses incurred when they were evacuated , which shows that President Truman and the Democrats party tried to end the allegation by signing the Japanese American Evacuation Claims Act. Eventually, Congress accepted the bill which was unexpected by many people. The President gave his opinion about the congresses unexpected approval and said it would in my opinion be a tragic anomaly if the united states were on the one hand...on the other hand it ignored and left underdressed the very real and grievous losses which some of them, together with their immediate families have suffered because of government action during the same war . • 43. Animal Farm s Utopian Society Animal Farm s Utopian Society Animal Farm by George Orwell is a novel detailing a farm s revolution as the animals fight to take back what is theirs and keep it for themselves rather than supply a farmer and his needs. The animals succeed in recapturing their farm, and one of the first things they do is set up a list of seven commandments to provide structure to their utopian society. By the end of the book, one realizes that the utopian society the animals set up was riddled with holes, and this leads one to wonder if a utopian is ever really achievable. The purpose of this essay is to discuss Animal Farm s flaws in its utopian society and the idea of the utopian society as a whole. To begin, one of the main flaws of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Utopian societies are unreachable and unattainable, and will surely turn into dystopian societies, just like Animal Farm. In brief, the society created in Animal Farm was condemned from the first commandment and the first appointment of its leaders. Trying to live life on a farm without the aid or contact with humans was illogical in itself. As previously stated, a farm cannot sustain on its own. The animals were foolish to think it could. The leading of Snowball and Napoleon also led to the destruction of the farm s utopian society. They couldn t possibly do any good for the farm because they were too busy arguing at the Sunday debates. All in all, a utopian society is not achievable, at least not in the near future. Equality cannot possibly be reached because a society needs a leader, which is against the idea of equality. Everyone also cannot be pleased at the same time because it is against human nature. Animal Farm never could have been a true utopian society; it was doomed before it had even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Arab Spring And Its Aftermath Essay The Arab Spring and its aftermath have become one of the most influential events of the twenty first century. The series of revolutions reshaped several governments within the Middle East by outing long reigning dictators that the people had become progressively frustrated with. The Arab Spring both aligns with and contradicts several previous waves of revolution and is truly a twenty first century conflict because of the role that modern technology played. Through studying the Arab Spring, political scientists have been given a glimpse into what future revolutions might look like, especially in regards to the expanding role of social media. In order for revolutions to occur, there must be several necessary structural conditions, which were all present during the Arab Spring. First, there must be fiscal strain, which is often caused by demographic changes within the region (Goldstone 2014). Many Middle Eastern countries during the early twenty first century experienced a youth bulge due to policies encouraging childbirth (Amar and Prashad 2013) . This new wave of young people, especially the young men, were unable to find jobs and the subsequent financial stability (Amar and Prashad 2013). This led to dissatisfaction with the government and frustration that would soon turn into anger once a specific queue, according to relative deprivation theory, ignited the group (Gurr 1970). This queue was in the form of the self immolation of a fruit seller named Mohamed Bouazizi ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Horses of the Wild West and the World Essay Domestication of the horse took place 5 6,000 years ago, near the end of the Neolithic period. It is almost certain that it first took place in Eurasia, through the nomadic Aryan tribes, around the Black and Caspian Seas. It is from this point in the history of the world that the existence of truly wild horses begins to decline; their place taken by domestic stock. Horses are located all over the world, depending on their location and the traits they poses; they have all since been given specific breeds. The closest living relative to the horses of today is the Asiatic Wild Horses. These horses are better known as the przewalskii horses, which were discovered by Nicolai Mikhailovitch Przewalskii in 1879. The horses coat color is mainly bay, followed by chestnut, but there are also some palominos, browns, and blacks. The horses stand around 14 hands, and are still acknowledged for being one of the toughest breeds in the world. The islands of Chincoteague and Assateague are inhabited by wild stock. Majority of the ponies live on Assateague, which is now a National Park. In 1933 the islands were managed by the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department, who looked after the well being of the ponies. The Federal Fish and Wildlife Service was introduced to the islands in 1943, to protect the wild fowl and seabird populations. The needs of the ponies were not entirely compatible with the needs of the birds; and when the FFWS fenced off its government built pools in an effort to preserve the wild fowl habitat the ponies were greatly affected. The fencing of the pools confined the ponies to a small low lying marshy part of the island and reduced the grazing areas substantially. The ponies were also denied access to the sea, which is where they went to in the summer to avoid mosquitoes. Due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Jamaica Kincaid Girl by Jamaica Kincaid and If by Rudyard Kipling are 2 poems that have a parent writing to their kid trying to teach them in a different way. In Girl , there is a mother writing to her daughter to tell her directions to become the perfect girl. In If , the father writes to his son to teach very important life lessons. These two poems have a similar topic but a different setting and theme. There is going to be some evidence and reasoning to back up the similarity and differences. A similarity between the poems is the topic of parents writing to their children to teach them. At the very end in Girl , it states you mean to say that after all, you are really going to be the kind of women who the baker won t let near the bread? Similarly, in If, And which is more, you ll be a man my son! which was stated in the last stanza. This evidence first shows a parent speaking to their child. Many people wonder how they could be alike at all, and without the immense Peruvian pride throughout both cities, they would appear alien to each other. The two most well known Peruvian cities are different in too many ways to count. Cusco used to be the center of the Incan Empire and is known for its ancient ruins that are overflowing with history, while Lima s parks and street art are beautiful examples of modern art and pull dozens of different cultures together. • 50. Paradise Lost Character Analysis In the story of Paradise Lost by John Milton, many of the fallen angels exhibit certain qualities that could be interpreted as virtues. Some of these qualities include courage, justice, and perseverance. However, many say these characters are meant to be portrayed as completely evil, which leaves a reader wondering as to why they display a certain level of morality. It is obvious that the characters believe that they have been wronged and are seeking justice for themselves against what they view as a tyrant of the heavens. However, when reading the text, I noticed that John Milton gave the fallen angels many human like qualities, making it impossible to have any wholly evil characters. Throughout the entire story, Milton illustrates the fallen angels as having both physical and mental resemblance to humans. He even goes as far as to discuss Satan s physiognomy in the first book, saying, ...but his face deep scars of thunder had entrenched, and care sat on his faded cheek, but under brows of dauntless courage, and considerate pride waiting revenge... (1. 600 604). This goes to show that Milton at the very least has a picture of the fallen angels in his mind s eye as being human in appearance. As well as this, Satan also brings up an interesting argument regarding the mind, asserting that the mind if its own place, and in itself can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven (1. 254 255). In this quote, he is essentially saying that attitude has everything to do with one s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
