Direct Essays
Writing an essay on the concept of "Direct Essays" can be a challenging task, as it requires a
nuanced understanding of the subject matter and the ability to articulate one's thoughts
coherently. The difficulty lies in navigating the complexities associated with the term "Direct
Essays" and presenting a comprehensive analysis.
Firstly, one must delve into the various dimensions of direct essays, exploring their significance,
purpose, and potential impact. This involves extensive research to gather relevant information
and insights from diverse sources, ranging from academic journals to real-life examples.
Navigating through a sea of information can be daunting, requiring the writer to sift through the
data and extract the most pertinent details.
Moreover, constructing a well-organized essay demands a clear structure and logical flow of
ideas. Writers must carefully outline their arguments, ensuring a seamless transition between
paragraphs and a coherent progression of thought. Balancing the introduction, body, and
conclusion while maintaining a focus on the central theme of direct essays adds an additional
layer of complexity.
Additionally, the writer must consider various perspectives and potential counterarguments
related to the topic. Addressing opposing views requires a skillful approach, incorporating
critical thinking and analytical prowess to strengthen the essay's overall credibility. Striking the
right balance between personal opinions and objective analysis is a delicate task that demands a
deep understanding of the subject matter.
Furthermore, the challenge lies in articulating ideas with clarity and precision. Expressing
complex concepts in a straightforward manner requires a mastery of language and effective
communication skills. This demands careful consideration of word choice, sentence structure,
and overall writing style to ensure the essay is accessible and engaging for the intended audience.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Direct Essays" is no small feat. It demands a combination of
research, critical thinking, organization, and effective communication. Navigating through the

Module 11 Research Paper
A big controversial part of our society these days is the wage gap. As my friend Kylie
s dad says: You can tell there is still a gap because no one wants to talk about it.
Some people ignore the issue and some people are just unaware to the issue entirely.
A wage gap inequality is a difference in pay from a white male to a different gender,
religion, or race. This is expressed as a percentage. Wage gaps have existed because
of the extreme segregation that has clouded our country for decades during our
country s history. In the past, it was not socially acceptable for women to work.
They were supposed to stay home and take care of the household. This creates for
differences in pay as women were integrated into the work force. The Gender Wage
Gap still exists and is an issue in our society because our mothers, wives, sisters,
and daughters still believe they are being paid unfairly, it is proven to be present
in every state in the US, and actions are still being made to this day to try and close
this narrowing gap. To further my research I have decided to research the gender
wage gap nationally as well as locally in North Carolina.
Nationally women on average are paid 80 cents to a man s dollar. Experts say that
women and men will not reach pay parity until 2059. This means that equal pay will
not be achieved until 43 years from now. This represents a big issue in our society. A
women working full time, year round earns $10,800 less than a man
The Shadow Lines By Amitav Ghosh
With Indo Pak relations straining from worse to worst, the 1988 novel, The
Shadow Lines, of Amitav Ghosh gets more relevance as its major focus is on the
partition inflicted psyches. A nation draws boundary to separate its people from
other nations. But, in the case of India and Pakistan the borders are not strong
enough to separate people who are the progenies of the same culture and history.
How can one divide a nation which has a common past, culture, history and heritage?
In fact the makers of the sensational news about the violence on the borders
consciously forget the truth that one cannot divide the memories of the people and in
turn tries to foster in them hatred for the people across the border. The novel helps us
think of a free... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being a Bengali, Ghosh brings into focal point the partition on the Bengal border.
Though the novel concentrates much on a single family it rides through the heart of
the wounded India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and covers a large span of India s
freedom struggle. The narrator of Ghosh s novel is a young boy born and brought up
in Kolkata in the post partition India. If the purpose of partition was to give freedom
to the people, that freedom was a nightmare for the Bengalese. While reading the
newspaper, Amitav Ghosh s narrator is forced to ask: Why don t they draw
thousands of little lines through the whole subcontinent and give every place a
new name? What would it change? It s a mirage; the whole thing is a mirage. How
can anyone divide a memory? (TSL 247) In fact freedom was just a mirage for the
people on the borders. The line was drawn through their heart; many of them lost
their home land; they were cut off from the root. Life in a translated world, away
from their homeland was something horrible for many. The grandmother of Ghosh s
narrator is such a person who lost herself in between the line, being born on one side
and living on the other side of the
Glow Sticks Experiment Results
Data Analysis The question that was resolved by this experiment was, does different
temperatures affect how long the illuminating process in glow sticks lasts? In this
experiment the hypothesis was, if the temperature is cold (5 degrees Celsius), then
the glow time of the glow sticks lasting will increase because the molecules are
moving slowly and the cold water is dragging out the reaction time making it last an
extensive amount of time. The independent variable was the temperatureof the water
in the glass cup while the dependent variable was how long the sticks glowed.
Some controlled variables included 235 milliliters of water in each glass, the brand
of glow stick used which was glow play, and the color of the glow sticks which was
pink. The controlled group was the glow stick in the room temperature water, and the
experimental group was the different water temperatures. During this experiment
make sure to crack the glow sticks and shake it well before putting it in the cup....

One minute in all the trials the hot temperature glow stick gleamed the brightest and
the cold and room temperature glow stick glowed about the same. After about four
hours the glow stick in hot water went out of light. The room temperature glow stick
lasted around seven to eight hours, and the cold water glow stick lasted about ten
hours. The range of how long the glow sticks lasted came about six hours and thirty
one minutes. The hypothesis was supported by the data and was accepted. In the
hypothesis it stated that the glow stick in the cold water would last the longest and
according to the data it did. The pattern that was observed in all three trials was that
the glow stick in hot water beamd brightest but lasted the least. Also in the room
temperature water it lasted the second longest, and the cold water stayed the same
brightness the whole experiment until toward the end of its life and it lasted the
The Flaws Of The Commission
Recommendations The flaws of the commission are extensive, but there is also a
well structured base to build on for future endeavors. Woven into the fabric of the
commission are the makings of a potentially successful Reconciliation commission.
With a slight tweaking to the core premise, a few assorted changes to the logistics
and a less meddling governmentthe commission could stand a chance at healing the
wounds. As mentioned previously, the South Korean Truth and reconciliation council
was made in the image of the South African Truth and Reconciliation council. The
commission wished to place an emphasis on finding out the historical proceedings in
a concise and thorough manner. However, having been met with a slew of
bureaucratic hurdles, the commission soon began to shift its tactics in a manner that
would allow them to continue their search but not smirch the name of the South
Korean Government. Without accepting responsibilities for much of the atrocities
committed during the time, the Korean government began to take the form of the
truth as defined by the government commission. If the main goal was truly to
facilitate the process of healing in South Korea, then the most potentially successful
format for the commission would have been that of an Reparation and restitution
commission seeing as many of the misdoings were in fact committed by the
government onto the people, causing tangible damage that could be potentially
repaired. An Apology
Theme Between Frankenstein And Jekyll And Hyde
The growth of scientific knowledge in the 1800s had a major impact on the arts in
general, particularly literature, with the emergence of a trend for writers to explore
the concept and creation of identity, relating it to the constraints of society.
Frankenstein is shown to create the Creature due to his obsession with knowledge.
Similarly, Jekyll creates Hyde due to scientific interest. DantГЁs is shown to create
his identities, not due to the growth of science, but in order to become part of the
development of culture in France after the events of the Revolutionary Wars. Creators
are shown to have brought their creations into existence due to the progressions of
society and culture, which displays the construction of new identities as an almost...

He is trapped by the guilt that he feels over William s death, Justine s execution,
and the creation of the Creature. Whilst Jekyll and Frankenstein are trapped in the
idea of their creations, Dumas presents DantГЁs as unable to act outside his own
limits, becoming trapped by his own creation. The creation of Monte Cristo traps
DantГЁs by forcing him to constantly adopt a different persona, although he
appears less constrained by this than he was as DantГЁs: the development of the
Count places him in a higher social standing than before, which allows him to act
above the constraints of society. The novel s structure therefore does not create the
idea that DantГЁs is trapped he appears to be liberated in his higher role. Despite
this, his time in the Chateau d If causes him to become trapped by the idea of
getting revenge. McKee states that people who are more vengeful are motivated by
power... and the desire for status, in spite of the constraints of society, which fits with
DantГЁs character after his time in prison. He becomes stuck in the idea of getting
revenge and is unable to escape this once his plot has begun. Despite this, and unlike
Frankenstein and Jekyll, DantГЁs is able to act outside the constraints of

Essay on Slave Ship
The Slave Ship by Marcus Rediker is a great fiction novel that describes the
horrifying experiences of Africans, seamen, and captains on their journey through
the Middle Passage. The Middle Passage marked the water way in the Atlantic
Ocean between Africa and the Americas. The use of slaves provided a great
economy for the European countries due to the fact that these African slaves
provided free labor while cultivating sugar cane in the Caribbean and America.
Rediker describes the slave migration by saying, There exists no account of the
mechanism for history s greatest forced migration, which was in many ways the key
to an entire phase of globalization (10). This tells us that African enslavement to the
Americas causes a complete... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some Africans did not go without putting up a fight. For instance, Captain Tomba led
many villagers in burning huts and killing neighbors who cooperated with slave
traders (14). He was later captured and sent to the slave ship where he would be sold
in the New World. The slaves also resisted by refusing to eat. Most of them decided
they would rather have death than to live the lifestyle on the slave ships. The
captains punished those who refused to eat by giving them lashes to the bare skin
until they decided to eat. Olaudah Equiano could be considered one of the more
fortunate Africans involved in the slave trade. Rediker uses Equiano to show how
Africans were kidnapped and brought to the slave ship. Equiano was home alone
with his sister when he was snatched by a neighboring enemy tribe. Tribes were
kidnapping each other to sell to the slave traders for goods and even weapons.
Equiano was separated from his sister and sold off to merchants before actually
boarding the slave ship. He mentioned several times how he would rather die than
be on the slave ship. He noticed right away that the slave ship was equipped with
nettings to prevent precisely such desperate rebellion (109). Equiano went to the
Americas and was left alone when none of the merchants purchased him. He was
sold to a captain and boarded his ship back to England. On this slave ship, he was
treated much better. He got to stay on the deck and eat better food than he had

In today s world, the use of High Performance computing (HPC) is increasing in
science and technology, data crunching and data analysis problems. HPC uses
power of parallel processing to solve advanced problems efficiently and in a
desired time. The HPC users are now looking in Clouds as an alternative to solve
these problems in a cost effective manner. Using a cloud rather than a dedicated HPC
cluster reduces the overall cost of the infrastructure setup and its uses. Cloud provides
elasticity, virtualization and resource control and utilization. HPC provides good
performance on the other hand cloud offers cost effectiveness

people look up what s in gum. Over the past years people look up what s in gum,
most people don t care about it, but others do. Many people asked for so many years,

many dangerous chemicals and toxins in chewing gum. People say gum is made out
of tree sap, from the sapodilla tree. The texture of the sap is a rubbery material from
the tree called polyisobutylene. It is also called chicle. Americans spend about
$856.9 billion on gum each year. If people saved their money from buying gum, they
The Three Causes Of The Russian Revolution
The Russian Revolution started in 1905 through 1917. It happened because there
were a series of revolution that started in 1905, including the bloody sunday. This
name was because priest disagreed that workers had no rights to he went to Czar s
house and just started shooting everywhere. Russian revolution had five or six causes
we have three really important causes. We had the weakness of Russia, the World War

the most important of the five reasons of the Russian Revolution was that the
People of Russia didn t want an absolute monarchy. Russia for a long time had
absolute monarchism until Nicholas the second that was the last Czars of Russia,
and wasn t kings and queens the had the Czars and the Czars had absolute power in
Russia. What do you think it s going to happen? I will give you a clue it was a really
bloody war.
Bloody Sunday was one of the reason of the Russian Revolution to happen. So the
bloody Sunday was when demonstrators without guns or any object like that were
attacked by soldiers of the Imperial Guards when they were marching to the Winter
Palace. Another reason was the Duma. At the October Manifesto that was a response

Caliban in Shakespeare s The Tempest Essay
The Tempest, considered by many to be Shakespeare s farewell to the theatre, has of
all his plays the most remarkable interpretive richness. The exceptional flexibility of
Shakespeare s stage is given particular prominence in The Tempest due to its
originality and analytic potential, in particular in the presentation of one of his most
renowned and disputed characters, Caliban. Superficially portrayed in the play as a
most detestable monster, Caliban does not evoke much sympathy. However, on
further examination Caliban presents himself as an extremely complex character and
soon his apparent monstrosity is not so obviously transparent. The diverse range of
presentations of him on stage exemplifies Caliban s multifarious character.... Show

In the introduction to Critical Essays on Shakespeare s The Tempest, Editor Alden T.
Vaughan describes how the commonly accepted view of Prospero s character was
that of a wise and rational ruler [who] could govern the forces of disorder that
undermine the family and the state . Indeed, before the beginning of the nineteenth
century Prospero was presented as thus, while Caliban as an abominable, inhuman
beast. As the play drew a greater audience worldwide however, that view began to
change and post colonial interpretations began to present themselves in which
Caliban was cast in a more empathic light. These critics noted how easily the figure
of Caliban converges with the image of the cannibal, the mythical savage whom
many European travellers claimed to have encountered. The name Caliban even
seems to be a pointed anagram of cannibal . Since that time, views have changed on
the savagery of those natives and with it, on the savagery of Caliban.
In the 1978 Royal Shakespeare Company production of The Tempest, David Suchet
played a humanized, though exploited, third world Caliban, possibly a
representative African or West Indian. This interpretation draws on many views that
Caliban represents a subjugated native and that the relationship between Prospero
and Caliban is, in fact, a relationship between the oppressor, and the oppressed.
Indeed, the island was Caliban s before Prospero and Miranda arrived where he was
then reduced to being a slave.
Influenza Pandemics
Throughout the history, influenza viruses have caused several pandemics or global
epidemics, killing many people. For example, the influenza strike in 1918 to 1919
infected an estimated 500 million people worldwide, which is one third of the planet
s population at the time and killed an estimated 20 million to 50 million people.
More than 25 percentage of the U.S. population were affected, and caused 675,000
deaths in U.S during the pandemic.(History, 2015). There were no effective
treatments for this type of influenzaand no available vaccines can prevent its spread
during the period. (History, 2015) U.S government required general population to
wear masks and other protective equipments in public areas, and many public places
also closed due to the influenza strike. Health care providers tried everything they
knew to save people, but none shows any evidence of effects. (National Center for
Biotechnology Information [NCBI], 2015). Scientists found out that the influenza
virus had invaded their lungs and caused pneumonia, which made so many people

Even outside of this class, I love to listen to covers of popular songs, played on the

4. To start off, a lot of Renaissance instruments have evolved into the modern day
instruments we use today. Without the weird instruments that were made decades
ago, we wouldn t have had the cool instruments we do today. The issue of tuning and
unpleasant sounds has been fixed because now instruments have tuning valves and
other devices to help ease the pain of the horrendous sound made by out of tune
instruments. Next, Medieval instruments were made by hand, and most of the time
were prized possessions that they would never give up, but instruments today are
machine made, and are sold and distributed for a lot of money. Lastly, the difference
between Medieval instruments and modern day instruments, is today we have the

Tucker And His Battle To Build The Car Of Tomorrow
Analysis
...and His Battle to Build the Car of Tomorrow. Preston Tucker may not be a name
familiar to people outside of the auto industry or the business world, unless you
happened to watch the 1988 movie, Tucker: The Man and His Dream. I never saw
the movie, but have been long familiar with the story. Or at least I thought I was.
That is until I read the book, Preston Tucker and His Battle to Build the Car of
Tomorrow, by Steve Lehto (Chicago Press Review; 260 pages; $27,99; ISBN: 978
1 61374 953 1). In effect, Lehto exposed the entire story, going well beyond the man
s aspirations to show how industry leaders, politicians, and regulators colluded to

story was infuriating... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The End of the Road After several years of wrangling with the opposition, Tucker
found himself without a company and with people launching civil suits against the
company and himself, including dealers who lost their investment. Though Tucker
prevailed, he was destitute, yet he maintained the dream of launching a new
company. At the same time, he was never himself and was soon diagnosed with
lung cancer, passing away at age 53 just eight years after launching the Tucker 48.
Shades of Musk and Tesla? There is much that can be gleaned by Letho s work,
which I think has an important place in chronicling Tucker history, even without the
foreword by Jay Leno. Some compare Tucker s rise and fall to Elon Musk, founder
of Tesla Motors. Although Musk is similarly imbued with entrepreneurialism, his
personal wealth and the very favorable government backing for his electric vehicle
initiative means comparisons between the two stop there. Indeed, although Musk s
long term success is still in doubt, at least he hasn t faced the same headwinds as
Tucker. And that s putting it all
The Body And The Soul
The human person is made up of two components the body and the soul. I believe
that the relationship between the body and the soul are united as one. The human
person resides in both the body and the soul equally. A philosopher who believes in
the theory of the body and soul together, creating the human person is Aristotle. There
are two elements of the soul, ration and irrational. The rational element is composed
of the theoretical reason and practical reason. The irrational element is compose of
vegetative, appetites, and desires. The body and soul interrelate by the soul acting as
a container for the body, therefore together their body and soul become the entire
humanperson. An analogy to compart the relationship of the body and soul... Show

A philosopher who agrees with the theory of the will or free will is St. Augustine. St.
Augustine expressed free will in his argument on the free choice of the will, but
also expressed in his theory on how that will is formed. St. Augustine describes the
free will and choice we have in regards to choosing to know and love god, as well as
seeking the will for happiness in your life. So it matters not only that we have free
will but also how we use our free will. A good will is a will in which we seek to
live a good and upright life and to attain perfect wisdom (Abel, 128). Some people
believe that we are automatically taught to know and love God, but what matters
is if those individuals seek after and want to know and love God. All human beings
desire to be happy it is still questionable though as to why some people choose not
to live a happy life and would rather live an unhappy life. For those who are happy
are not happy simply because they willed to live the happy life, as bad men do this
too, but because they wished to live upright lives, which bad men are unwilling to
do (Abel, 129). If one wants to be happy, one must make God the highest good.
Now no one is secure in the possession of goods which can be lost against his will.
But no one loses truth or wisdom against his will, for he cannot be separated from
them

feminism means something completely different than what it did in the days of
women s suffrage. No longer is feminism working on allowing women just to vote. It
focuses on intersectionality, gender norms, women s reproductive rights, and so
much more. We are in the third wave of feminism. In 2017 most millennials identify
with third wave feminism or a variant of the movement and strive to abolish gender
roles, patriarchy, and fight for women s rights and equality. Our distinct personal
experiences and social location effect what issues we care most about, whether they
be racial equality or the Healthcare Reform.

Andrea has experienced gender inequality the most in their place of work, which is
the male dominated field of civil engineering and in academia.
Women and female bodied individuals in America have had issues with inequality
in school and their place of work for centuries. While in school young girls are
taught that they are not as special as their male peers and experience many
limitations. In Judith Lorber s The Social Construction of Gender (1991) we learn
how the differences among girls and boys are what society uses to shape gender
roles. Young girls learn that their education is not as important as a man s they
learn that their roles as mothers and looking attractive is more important even if
they grow up to have the same positions as men. The differences that women and
men face are a part of the process in which gender is socially constructed. Lorber
states, As a process, gender creates the social differences that define woman and man
. In social interaction throughout their lives, individuals learn what is expected, act
and react in expected ways.... (Lorber, Kirk Okazawa Rey, 1991, p.67).
Lorber also states, Societies vary in the extent of inequality in the social status of
their women and men members, but where there is inequality, the status woman (and
its attendant behavior and the role allocations) is usually held in lesser esteem than
the status man (Lorber, Kirk Okazawa Rey, 1991, p.67). Andrea s experiences
The Architecture Of The Golden Temple
The Architecture
The Golden Temple, Harmandir Sahib is special because it is the only temple that
builds in the middle of square tanks and there is water all around the temple.
Besides that, it is famous for its architectures and the glittering combination of pure
gold domes and pure white marble. In addition, the exterior of the temple is
covered with gold and it is looks amazingly beautiful compared with other temple.
The dome of temples is gilded with 750 kg of pure gold. After that, there are 100kg
of gold were applied and decorative marble was added to the inverted Lotus shaped
dome. The interior of the temple also decorated with gold. Next, the Golden Temple
has four different directions entrances which symbolizes people from four directions
of the earth are welcome to enter the temple. Lastly, the architecture of the Golden
Temple draws and paints on both Hindu and Muslim artistic styles. It represents a
unique co evolution of the two styles. Last but not least, most of the temples have
statues inside or outside of the temple, but Golden temple do not have any statues of
any demi gods or goddesses (Tejwant Singh, 2014). Most of the decorations are fresh
flowers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The door frames of the dome are 10 feet tall and 8 feet wide and the door panes are
decorated with artistic style. Harmandir Sahib is a place for mental solace and also
provides the rarest of art work. The art that displayed in Harmandir Sahib is either
Islamic art or Hindu traditional art. Most of the exterior upper portions of the walls
of the Harmandir Sahib are covered with beaten copper plates and heavily gilded.
The main of the decorations are floral and abstract. There are also some panels are
representing the human figure. For example, the lower represent Guru Nanak flanked
by Bala and Mardana whereas the upper represent Guru Gobind Singh on
Integrated Model Of Managed Care
Managed care in simple can be defined as an organized approach to delivering
healthcare services in an efficient way to enrolled members by negotiation of prices
and payments with the providers. Managed care is one of the dominant influence that
as transformed the healthcare delivery system in the United States since the 1990s.
Managed carehas two different contexts to it.
1.It is an integrated model with an organizational setting involving financing,
insurance, delivery, and payments.
2.Controlling the utilization of these services. The presence of managed care
organizations in a health care market creates incentives that affect provider treatment
patterns for both managed care and non managed care patients. The mechanisms may

The Dictionary States That Fracking Is A Method Used For
The dictionary states that fracking is a method used for getting oil and gas from
underground rocks by injecting liquid into the rocks so that they can break apart
(Merriam Webster). Fracking can be a controversial topic in numerous people s
eyes due to the side effects that coincide with this procedure. Fracking has evolved
over the years and made a comeback around 2010. Lately, the United States has
heard tremendous news regarding this procedure and the drawbacks from fracking
natural gases and oil. Fracking can be beneficial; sadly, the side effects greatly
outweigh the benefits. The environmental risks, pollution, and the overall risk factors
prove to not worth the risk of fracking. Fracking is a... Show more content on

The environmental risks that accompany fracking are potentially hazardous. In
order to frack, thousands of acres of forests need destroyed to allow roadways the
space they need to exist (Lampe 38). However, these roadways allow erosion to
occur due to the lack of vegetation (Lampe 38). Along with erosion, siltation occurs
and sand, soil, and mud sink to the bottom of rivers, and ponds (Lampe 38).
Therefore, the animals living in these habitats may migrate, or simply just die.
Trees situated on the acres of land for hundreds of years would have to be chopped
down to make way for roadways. In some cases, depending on where the oil
reservoir is located, the state declares eminent domain on houses and pays the
landowners. Consequently, the houses will be destroyed and the oil reservoirs will
be fracked.
The greatest common concern on the subject today is water contamination.
Individuals grew worried that the chemicals used to gather these natural resources
will seep into the water and contaminate the United States. The water necessary to
frack is gathered from rivers, lakes, ponds, and even aquifers. This is then combined
with chemicals and pumped into the ground. Fracking was exempted from the
Federal Safe Drinking Water Actand the chemicals used to frack are not tested
frequently in our water (Lampe 34). Bordering on 20 to 40 percent of the water used
to frack rises back up to the surface and is stored on site (Lampe 34). An
Comparing The Benedictine Abbey Church Of St. Michael
And...
The two works I would like the compare are the Benedictine abbey church of St
Michael, as well as La Sainte Chapelle. The abbey church of St Michael is an early
Romanesque style building and is located in Hildensheim, Germany. The church was
constructed between 1001 and 1031 during the Ottoman period in the early middle
ages. St. Michaels was commissioned by and built under the direction of Bishop
Bernward.
La Sainte Chapelle is located in Paris, France and was founded by King Louis IX.
The construction began in 1246 and was finished in 1248. This Gothis style cathedral
was designed by Thomas De Cormont, an architect also worked on Amiens Cathedral.
I decided to research St. Michael s Church as well as Sainte Chapelle because both
churches are very different compared to the other, yet both are beautiful works of
architecture that depict the artistic advancements for their time periods. St. Michael s
building represents the Romanesque artistic style of the Holy Roman Empire during
the early middle ages. In contrast, La Sainte Chapelle exemplifies the qualities and
extravagance of the Gothic artistic era. The double choirs, towers, cross vaulted crypt
and painted ceiling are all examples of the historic decorative features of the early

as a chapel for the royal palace and to house precious relics. Such precious relics

Culture Is The Meaning Of Culture
Culture is defined as the behaviors and beliefs characteristics of a particular social,
ethnic, or age group (dictionary.com, n.d.). Why has society seen this clearly defined
word brought up in many media disputes as of late? People are crossing the line. For
years, people have been in heated debates about cultural appropriation and cultural
appreciation. Arguments have arisen in art, clothing, and literature and whether their
meanings are being exploited or celebrated. Society must find common ground before
cultureloses its essence. To choose an accurate position in the argument, one must
return to the basics of culture. Culture is mixed, it connotes the mixing from other
sources. Instead of shaming those inadvertently skewing customs, a collective
consensus must be met to rid society of stereotypes and initiate a blend of cultures.
Speaking up for one s culture will prevent a world constantly at battle and speaking
up will promote one abounding in appreciation for unconventional style. After all,
diversity is far more commended than conformity. If everyone was the same, traveling
would be a lot less adventurous and exotic. Every country is proud of its culture
because it has shaped the population. The world needs a mutual understanding of
each nation s customs to keep culture divine. The act of taking or using things from a
culture that is not your own, especially without showing that one understands or
respects this culture is cultural appropriation (Cambridge
The Elimination Of Poverty Today s Society
The Elimination of Poverty in Today s Society
Poverty surrounds us within our daily lives. As Paul Wellstone states, More than 35
million Americans one out of every seven of our fellow citizens are officially poor.
More than one in five children American children are poor. And the poor are getting
poorer (676). The harsh reality of these circumstances are that we do not constantly
see it. While many may choose to overlook poverty, there are methods that can be
instituted to help reduce and eliminate this deficiency. Poverty can be eliminated by
improving education, reducing unintended pregnancies among young woman, and
generating new jobs with higher pay.
One way poverty can be eliminated is to educate the population for employment
opportunities and with financial knowledge. Numerous teenagers drop out of school
every year without obtaining their high school diploma. This diploma is the minimum
requirement for the majority of all jobs. Parents, schools and the government need to
offer additional incentives to keep children in school in order to seek higher
education and additional employment opportunities. Laws could be enacted forcing
children to attend school until the age of eighteen or possibly joining the military if
they choose to drop out. This will ensure these students a bright future without the
possibility of living in poverty. Financial stability is something else each child should
learn as many adults aren t able to financially
Serial Killers And The Killers
Serial Killers Serials killers can be defined in different ways, depending on who you
ask. If you ask me, I think a serial killer is someone who has killed more than a
couple people. If you ask someone else more than likely you will get a different
definition. But what really is the definition of a serial killer? According to Zoe
McKnight Serial murders usually refer to two or more murders at different places
and times with a cooling off period in between, rather than several unrelated
murders, or a killing spree (McKnight). So basically the real definition of a serial
killer is someone who has killed at least two people with some time in between the
murders. Rather than a killing spree which would be killing person after person.
That would be a mass murderer. What I find really interesting about serial killers is
how they choose their victims or why they choose the people they do,
characteristics of the killer s victims and what serial killers have in common with
other serial killers, and more importantly why they actually kill people, and what
happens to them once they get caught. The majority of serial killers are men, and
they mainly target women. Women have danger blind spots that prevent them from
recognizing when and how they might be at risk (Richard Rys). Meaning that if a
handsome guy walks up to a woman, the woman won t think much about it. No one
goes around thinking that every person that talks to them or that they talk to is going
to be a killer. Most

Abraham Maslow Impact
Abraham Maslow had a positive impact on life. Maslow wanted a career that would
change the world, and he achieved just that. He developed his influential hierarchy
of inborn needs in the 1940 s. During WWII, Maslow got into a different field: the
study of emotionally healthy, high achieving men and women, which would later be
called self actualizing. He was known for his groundbreaking studies on personality
and motivation, and his concepts like self actualization, peak experience, and synergy
have become part of our everyday language.
Abraham Harold Maslow was an American psychologist who is best known for
creating Maslow s hierarchy of needs, and discovering self actualization. Maslow

Bandura Self Efficacy Theory
Describe and explain Bandura s (1997) self efficacy theory. Use sporting examples
to show your understanding Self efficacy is the beliefs in one s capabilities to
organise and execute the courses action required to produce given attainments
(Bandura,1997. p.3). Self efficacy beliefs are specific to particular situations and
do not represent an overall global trait (Feltz,1988). The Self Efficacy Theory tells
us that people generally will only attempt things they believe they can accomplish
and won t attempt things they believe they will fail. However, people with a strong
sense of efficacy believe they can accomplish even difficult tasks. They see these
as challenges to be mastered, rather than threats to be avoided (Bandura,1994). If
people have positive feelings within for 4 sources of information in Bandura s self
efficacy Theory, then the benefit will be addictive and Self Efficacy will tend to
be higher. Whilst negative feelings towards these factors will lower one s self
efficacy (Clark, 1996). Self efficacy impacts activity choices, effort of intensity of
a task, and persistence when facing obstacles. For example, if someone has a low
self efficacy within exercise, that person will be more likely to avoid exercise. If
they do exercise then they will likely pick forms of exercise that do not seem
challenging. When obstacles do emerge, the person with lower self efficacy will give
up before the person with higher self efficacy. On the other hand, someone with high

Native Americans And The American Revolution
The American Revolution has had a profound impact on the demographic evolution
of this continent; it might be the single most influential historical event to affect
North America. Perhaps, the group most affected by the American Revolution is
Native Americans. As is too often the case, history was written by the victors and in
the case of Native Americans, whether they fought for the British or the Patriots,
these original inhabitants of our land were most certainly not victorious. Realizing
the impact an independent United Statesof America would have on their own
survival, many Native American tribes chose to ally themselves to the British.
Cherokees, Creeks and Mohawks, among others, foresaw the westward expansion
and population growth that an America, unchecked by British rule, would realize. To
say every Native American tribe played the same role in The Revolution would be
contrary to fact, but without a doubt in the end, whether friend or foe, they all
realized a similar fate.
The interactions between American colonists and Native Americans began well
before the American Revolution was even a whisper on the lips of Patriots. From the
moment Europeans set foot on this continent, they would be interacting with Native
Americans. At times proving disastrous, relations between Native Americans and
Europeans were a constant delicate balance between trade and alliance, betrayal and
massacre, and a clash of two cultures so different it can be challenging to see how

It Is Better to Be Married Than to Be Single. Discuss.
Do you hereby take... as your lawfully wedded husband/wife... to have and to hold..

However, there are many in the world who are not willing to take this vow of

be explored.

People who choose to be married are committed to each other and fully acknowledge
the responsibilities attached. When a man and woman decide to wed, they choose to
be together till death do them part and officially recognize their other half. Most
marry with the intent of starting a family and having children. Children are seen as a
source of joy and enrichment to the married couple. These married couples do not
see children as a burden and hindrance as they originally have love and desire for
children.
Setting aside large sums of money to finance their child s education and livelihood
may result in financial strains and stress, but to these parents, seeing their children
succeed in life is their motivation. Besides, this helps in perfecting the parents time
and financial management.
Marriage is said to bring out the best in people. Patience, sacrifice, consideration and
compromise is nurtured in the course of marriage when a couple spends more time
together and learn more about each other. Marriage, thus, is a process of emotional
nurturing and maturing. It teaches one to be more understanding and selfless.
Being married does not mean cutting off all associations with working life and
achievement of materialistic goals. The striving up the corporate ladder can be
accomplished within the bounds of marriage. To some, it may be much better as
spouses can encourage each other and support each other financially and emotionally.

If you ever become a marketer, then your friend in the company should be the

These were the words of advise given to me by my Marketing professor at Red

marketing endeavor I undertake.
The above words also applies to all persons leading an Innovation projects: Be it new

When developing a plan for an innovation project, it is best to sit with an accountant
and comeup with a financial plan. Gather the financial information that determines
the viability of the project, at what levels of expenditure the projects become
unviable, develop a plan to monitor the project expenses and constantly review the
viability of the project. To do all this, you have to work with the accountant as a
partner in progress.
Also remember this: Money speaks louder than ideas!
So if your idea is backed by the accountant, then people will listen to you.
Track all your Costs
Once a project is approved, then managers need to keep a close tab on the costs of
the project. But that s in an ideal world.
Reality in most organizations is that product/development managers have little clue of
what their current costs are, what their total costs is, and how much more money will
they need to complete the project. I have spoken to several development managers in
several fortune 500 companies, and they don t know their numbers, instead they will
talk about the time frame of the project, head count etc., but not the numbers because
they do not know the numbers and nobody in the organization will ever tell them.
Smaller companies tend to do better. Managers in smaller companies know the costs
and therefore can take better and faster decisions.
Understanding all the costs is a
The Effects Of Drug Overuse On Drugs
Drug overuse has raised considerable awareness for several decades and individual
who have drug overuse problems usually have difficulty controlling their drug intake
or even their normal life. Approaches like Harm minimisation has been used in
policies, programmes and practices to deal with problems associated with drug
overuse. The drug policy of Australia is based on harm minimisation and lots of
Australians take at least one psychoactive drug on a regular basis, such as some kinds
of medication, alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs that all have a potential risk to cause
harm (Australian Drug Foundation, 2014). Harm minimisation is one of the most
effective approaches towards drug overuse. This essay will examine how the Harm
minimisation approaches deal with drug overuse and evaluate three Harm
minimisation programs, respectively, Needle and Syringe programmes, Methadone
Maintenance Treatment, Medically Supervised injecting Centres.
Harm minimisation (Harm Reduction) refers to policies, programmes and practices
that aim to reduce harms that associated with over use of both legal and illegal
psychoactive drugs (Harm Reduction International, 2016). Harm minimisation
approaches mainly focus on reducing harm, ensuring safe use and not always
abstinence, which weaken the adverse consequences of drug overuse and benefit not
only the individuals who over use drugs but also their families and the community
(Stoicescu, 2012). Generally, Harm minimisation follows a pragmatic

Abstract
Photoluminescence is light emission that form after the absorption of photons. Dye
act as a light absorber. Organic dye is one type of dye, have a small band gap and
use as semiconducting material. It will excite the excited electron after absorb light
as energy from highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO) to lowest unoccupied
molecular orbital(LUMO). The energy of photon must be greater than energy of band
gap in order to excite electron. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dye always acts as a light absorber. Dye will absorb light to excite the excited
electron state from HOMO to LUMO. So absorbed of photons will be happened
and dye will fall back from LUMO to HOMO. So emission of photon will be
happened. So the wavelength during absorbance and emission process can be
identified by using Photoluminescene (PL) spectrometer. By knowing the
wavelength we can determine the concentration of dye. Ruthenium dye is one of
the organic dye where it contains small band gap, so it only needs small energy to
excite the photon from LUMO to HOMO. So if the dye absorb red colour it will
reflect blue colour (refer figure 1). Figure 1: a wheel of colour to estimate absorbed

Julius Caesar Personality Traits
In William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, characters encounter
prophets, omens, and natural phenomena such as a soothsayer s warning, dreams,
and the presence of carrion birds. However, these are disregarded because of the
personality traits of the protagonists. Specifically, Julius Caesar is the strong and
fearless ruler of Rome, and feels compelled to act fearless due to his position;
Marcus Brutus is a widely admired praetor, and is proud of his honorable and noble
reputation; and Gaius Cassius is cautious to challenge Brutus decisions. Despite
numerous warnings and signs, Caesar, Brutus, and Cassius make poor decisions
based on their respective personalities, which ultimately result in their unavoidable
demise.

Because Brutus is such an integral part of the conspiracy, Cassius is careful to
provoke him. As previously mentioned, Cassius warns Brutus, do not consent/That
Antony speak in his funeral:/Know you how much the people may be moved/By
that which he will utter? (3.1.263 266). When Brutus dismisses Cassius point,
Cassius does not strongly oppose Brutus. He simply expresses his disapproval, as
he says I know not what may fall; I like it not. (3.1.275). As a result, Antony turns
the people against the conspirators. Even though Cassius is more insightful, he does
not make an effort to convince Brutus. He would rather give up his beliefs and risk
his life, than endanger the success of the conspirators. Before the war between the
triumvirate and the conspirators, Cassius and Brutus discuss their war strategy.
Cassius suggests that they let the enemy seek them in Sardis, and Brutus suggests
that they go to Philippi. Cassius again gives in to Brutus, merely saying: Then, with
your will, go on;/We ll along ourselves, and meet them at Philippi. (4.3.261 262).
Once again, Cassius submits to Brutus, and consequently, they do exactly what the
triumvirate hoped for by choosing to go to Philippi. During the battle, Cassius
witnesses two mighty eagles replaced by ravens and crows that fly over their heads
(5.1.91 97). Ravens and crows are carrion birds that
Cugo Research Paper
26 | fall 2017 Just 90 miles off Florida , s eastern shores lies an island with over 11
million people who remain a mystery to most Americans. For nearly six decades,
the U.S. government has restricted travel and trade to Cuba, permitting only
educational exchanges which is exactly what brought photography major Sarah
Schecker, NYU, to the country in summer 2016. Studying under noted Cuban
photographer Adrian Fernandez, Sarah s project chronicles the life of 4 year old
Kevin Alejandro. There are not many pictures of kids in Cuba, she says. I wanted to
see life in Communist Cuba from a child s perspective. Kevin lives with his aunt and
his mother in Havana s iconic edificio Arcos apartment building. Since his friends are

But Iva is the kind of entrepreneur who doesn t let such facts stop her. In 2010, she
launched a men s sock brand Richer Poorer Socks with a business partner in
California. We just went for it. We talked about the idea in spring of 2010 and we
were in stores by December of that year, Iva says. We dove into the deep end of the
pool and learned to swim and then we hustled from there. The company grew
organically for about two years with products placed in about 200 stores across the
country. Then, they brought in private investors, got acquired in 2015, but ended
up pulling the company back to private investment in 2016. It has been quite the
crazy journey. I hadn t started a business from scratch before and I very much had
that need. With a bit of luck, Richer Poorer hit its stride as the patterned sock trend
was taking off across the country, Iva says. Attributing their success to topquality
designs and high quality products at an attainable price point, Iva says she was
learning on the go, having spent her career in the women s accessories arena
previously. I knew nothing about the men s apparel side at all, but I liked that it was
a smaller space ... and we got lucky that the market was starting to understand why

Jewish Migration And The Holocaust
While researching texts written about Jewish Diaspora, I came across many
documentary publications on Holocaust. This tragic part of Jewish history is very
well documented as opposite to the Jewish Migration. I found few authors who
published articles and books on Impacts of the Holocaust on Jewish Migration. My
goal in this research paper is to explore the topic of Jewish Migration by connecting it
to the Holocaust. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper in the
chronological order. I have tried to analyse reasons and barriers of the Migration of
Jewish during the ten year period. It starts with Hitler coming to power and ends with
establishment of the State of Israel. In my conclusion I tried to understand how
modern world responds to Holocaust. The Holocaust is one of the most tragic
pages in the history of mankind and one of the greatest tragedies of the Jewish
people many children of survivors, who experienced their parents silence and
avoidance of discussing the past and their family s fate, felt this as a personal
threat (Dalia Ofer10). Holocaust was a cold blooded and pre deliberate decision to
destroy a nation. It was estimated that during the Holocaust about 60% of the total
Jewish population of Europe was destroyed according to official memorial to the
victims of the Holocaust. It is not possible to establish the exact number of victims
among the Jewish people due to the lack of reliable data on the extent of the
genocide ( Refugees. ). Jewswere
The Power Of The Second
Daniel, Joseph, and Mike Pence!
The Power of the Second I heard the Lord say: Mike Pence will be My Daniel and
Joseph in America, for there is power in My second in command!
Donald Trump s landmark victory as the soon to be 45th president of the United
States shakes the political paradigm as we know it, turning the world on its ear.
Lance Wallnau, a refreshing Dallas based prophetic voice in the business world and
the church, has been prophesying about Donald Trump for over a year in videos and
posts all over social media to a growing audience of 200,000 or more.
In his landmark and popular book released in September 2016 he describes Donald
Trump as: God s Chaos candidate. This term is based on a word he received from the
Lord:
In a Charisma News article dated October 5, entitled Why I Believe Donald Trump
is the Prophesied President, he said this: I heard the Lord say: Donald Trump is a
wrecking ball to the spirit of political correctness.
Wallnau is not alone in his belief; well known prophets including Dutch Sheets,
Chuck Pierce, Kim Clement, Rick Joyner, and Elijah List founder Steve Shultz, as
well as many other prophetic voices around the world felt it was a turning point in
history for which Donald Trump was the chosen vessel God would use to change the
direction of our nation.
Now here we stand to make no bones about it; Donald Trump is president elect and
will take office on January 20. Until then our divided country will try to heal and find

Lgbt And Indi Diversity
LGBT and India
Throughout India, diversity is embraced and accepted in many forms. It emerges
from differences in nationality, ethnicity, religion, region, language, physical ability,
sexual orientation and many other differing views and attributions among the
population. While diversity can be determined from birth, it can also be determined
by the social constructs a person grows up with or around. Diversity has many
positive consequences, but diversity also isn t without negative consequences. One of
the most diverse cultures in India includes its LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender, Queer) community. This area of diversity in particularly isn t without
criticism, and faces many negative consequences such as prejudice, stereotyping and
discrimination.
A Look at Prejudice, Stereotypes, and Discrimination
The terms prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination are often used interchangeably.
Often they will be confused between one another when each word means something
different entirely and with each words comes a new level of volatile beliefs.
Stereotypes are widely held, but an oversimplified image or idea of a particular
type of person or social group. They are the beliefs or expectations regarding what a
certain social group is or should be like. Stereotypes also involve attributions.
Stereotypes act as cognitive frameworks for organizing, interpreting, and recalling
information (Kalra, Gurvinder, Bhugra, 2010). Stereotypes rely on the way one
thinks, feels
My First Visit at the Hindu Temple Essay
I decided to visit a Hindu temple because the Hindu religion was the religion that I
knew the least about and was interested in. This assignment gave me an
opportunity to learn more about this religion and what their worship services and
rituals were like. The temple that I went to was called BAPS Shri Swaminaryan
Mandir and it was located in Lilburn. As soon as I walked in, I was amazed by the
beautiful architectural design of this Temple. It seemed like it took a lot of hard
work and dedication to make the place what it is now. While I was at the temple, I
watched the Hindus perform an ancient Vedic ritual called the Abhishek, a ritual
bathing to honor the murti of their God.

The Mandir (temple) was constructed with Italian marble, Indian pink sandstone,
and Turkish limestone. The walls were all carved with delicate carvings of Gods
that were carefully shipped all the way from India. The Hindus had very strict
rules that had to be followed, such as: no smoking, drinking or eating inside, cell
phones had to be turned off, and we had to be silent. We also had to take our shoes
off before entering the temple out of respect for the deities and to keep the floors
clean.
When I first entered the main worship room, I saw three women walking around
the gods in clockwise motion. This clockwise motion is called Pradakshina, a form
of worship that represents the fact that god is the center of everything and
everyone else surrounds him. There were several gods in the room, each stored in
their own window. Many people ranging from old to young kept going up to each
god and doing their own prayers. I observed that the prayers were performed in a
special way. You had to put your two hands together, close your eyes and pray to that
specific God. I couldn t understand the prayers they were reciting because they were
saying it in language.
BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir offers many traditional rituals and services.
However, I decided to observe Abhishek, an ancient Vedic ritual of bathing the murti,
which is the divine spirit of God. This ritual is dedicated to the murti Nilkanth Varni,
which represents Bhagwan Swaminarayan
Walking At Night In The Pedestrian By Ray Bradbury
In The Pedestrian by Ray Bradbury, Leonard Mead is ostracized for walking at
night, to the extent of being arrested. This is symbolic of the ignoring and shunning
and even the legal troubles that those who go against the main idea purported in
society face. It is also symbolic of those that dare to be active thinkers in a passive
thinking world. The powers in charge in Leonard Mead s world believe that him
walkingevery night could upset their social stability. In the short story, this takes the
form of the police arresting him and taking him to a psychiatric centre. This ostracizes
the Pedestrianand makes him be seen as a social pariah. Leonard Mead also believes
that his society will ostracize him if they found out he was walking at night.
Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor
In working as a vocational rehabilitation counselor, I am learning the importance of
quality individualizes services and how they can support people with disabilities to
prepare for obtaining employment. I have been have been participating closely with
individuals that have a disability to help them achieve greater levels of independence
by assisting them to develop goals and look for opportunities for employment. I am
finding out that you have to really put a lot of effort as a vocational counselor in
gathering medical, educational and different evaluations to determine eligibility and
to help with the planning process of assisting the individual to choose the right
occupation for themselves. In planning for a consumer to reach their

  • 2. A Big Controversial Part Of Our Society These Days Is The... Module 11 Research Paper A big controversial part of our society these days is the wage gap. As my friend Kylie s dad says: You can tell there is still a gap because no one wants to talk about it. Some people ignore the issue and some people are just unaware to the issue entirely. A wage gap inequality is a difference in pay from a white male to a different gender, religion, or race. This is expressed as a percentage. Wage gaps have existed because of the extreme segregation that has clouded our country for decades during our country s history. In the past, it was not socially acceptable for women to work. They were supposed to stay home and take care of the household. This creates for differences in pay as women were integrated into the work force. The Gender Wage Gap still exists and is an issue in our society because our mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters still believe they are being paid unfairly, it is proven to be present in every state in the US, and actions are still being made to this day to try and close this narrowing gap. To further my research I have decided to research the gender wage gap nationally as well as locally in North Carolina. Nationally women on average are paid 80 cents to a man s dollar. Experts say that women and men will not reach pay parity until 2059. This means that equal pay will not be achieved until 43 years from now. This represents a big issue in our society. A women working full time, year round earns $10,800 less than a man
  • 3. The Shadow Lines By Amitav Ghosh With Indo Pak relations straining from worse to worst, the 1988 novel, The Shadow Lines, of Amitav Ghosh gets more relevance as its major focus is on the partition inflicted psyches. A nation draws boundary to separate its people from other nations. But, in the case of India and Pakistan the borders are not strong enough to separate people who are the progenies of the same culture and history. How can one divide a nation which has a common past, culture, history and heritage? In fact the makers of the sensational news about the violence on the borders consciously forget the truth that one cannot divide the memories of the people and in turn tries to foster in them hatred for the people across the border. The novel helps us think of a free... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being a Bengali, Ghosh brings into focal point the partition on the Bengal border. Though the novel concentrates much on a single family it rides through the heart of the wounded India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and covers a large span of India s freedom struggle. The narrator of Ghosh s novel is a young boy born and brought up in Kolkata in the post partition India. If the purpose of partition was to give freedom to the people, that freedom was a nightmare for the Bengalese. While reading the newspaper, Amitav Ghosh s narrator is forced to ask: Why don t they draw thousands of little lines through the whole subcontinent and give every place a new name? What would it change? It s a mirage; the whole thing is a mirage. How can anyone divide a memory? (TSL 247) In fact freedom was just a mirage for the people on the borders. The line was drawn through their heart; many of them lost their home land; they were cut off from the root. Life in a translated world, away from their homeland was something horrible for many. The grandmother of Ghosh s narrator is such a person who lost herself in between the line, being born on one side and living on the other side of the

In this experiment the hypothesis was, if the temperature is cold (5 degrees Celsius), then the glow time of the glow sticks lasting will increase because the molecules are moving slowly and the cold water is dragging out the reaction time making it last an extensive amount of time. The independent variable was the temperatureof the water in the glass cup while the dependent variable was how long the sticks glowed. Some controlled variables included 235 milliliters of water in each glass, the brand of glow stick used which was glow play, and the color of the glow sticks which was pink. The controlled group was the glow stick in the room temperature water, and the experimental group was the different water temperatures. One minute in all the trials the hot temperature glow stick gleamed the brightest and the cold and room temperature glow stick glowed about the same. After about four hours the glow stick in hot water went out of light. The room temperature glow stick lasted around seven to eight hours, and the cold water glow stick lasted about ten hours. The range of how long the glow sticks lasted came about six hours and thirty one minutes. The hypothesis was supported by the data and was accepted. In the hypothesis it stated that the glow stick in the cold water would last the longest and according to the data it did. The pattern that was observed in all three trials was that the glow stick in hot water beamd brightest but lasted the least. Also in the room temperature water it lasted the second longest, and the cold water stayed the same brightness the whole experiment until toward the end of its life and it lasted the

Woven into the fabric of the commission are the makings of a potentially successful Reconciliation commission. With a slight tweaking to the core premise, a few assorted changes to the logistics and a less meddling governmentthe commission could stand a chance at healing the wounds. As mentioned previously, the South Korean Truth and reconciliation council was made in the image of the South African Truth and Reconciliation council. The commission wished to place an emphasis on finding out the historical proceedings in a concise and thorough manner. However, having been met with a slew of bureaucratic hurdles, the commission soon began to shift its tactics in a manner that would allow them to continue their search but not smirch the name of the South Korean Government. Without accepting responsibilities for much of the atrocities committed during the time, the Korean government began to take the form of the truth as defined by the government commission. If the main goal was truly to facilitate the process of healing in South Korea, then the most potentially successful format for the commission would have been that of an Reparation and restitution commission seeing as many of the misdoings were in fact committed by the government onto the people, causing tangible damage that could be potentially repaired. • 6. Theme Between Frankenstein And Jekyll And Hyde The growth of scientific knowledge in the 1800s had a major impact on the arts in general, particularly literature, with the emergence of a trend for writers to explore the concept and creation of identity, relating it to the constraints of society. Frankenstein is shown to create the Creature due to his obsession with knowledge. Similarly, Jekyll creates Hyde due to scientific interest. DantГЁs is shown to create his identities, not due to the growth of science, but in order to become part of the development of culture in France after the events of the Revolutionary Wars. Whilst Jekyll and Frankenstein are trapped in the idea of their creations, Dumas presents DantГЁs as unable to act outside his own limits, becoming trapped by his own creation. The creation of Monte Cristo traps DantГЁs by forcing him to constantly adopt a different persona, although he appears less constrained by this than he was as DantГЁs: the development of the Count places him in a higher social standing than before, which allows him to act above the constraints of society. The novel s structure therefore does not create the idea that DantГЁs is trapped he appears to be liberated in his higher role. Despite this, his time in the Chateau d If causes him to become trapped by the idea of getting revenge. McKee states that people who are more vengeful are motivated by power... and the desire for status, in spite of the constraints of society, which fits with DantГЁs character after his time in prison. He becomes stuck in the idea of getting revenge and is unable to escape this once his plot has begun. • 8. Essay on Slave Ship The Slave Ship by Marcus Rediker is a great fiction novel that describes the horrifying experiences of Africans, seamen, and captains on their journey through the Middle Passage. The Middle Passage marked the water way in the Atlantic Ocean between Africa and the Americas. The use of slaves provided a great economy for the European countries due to the fact that these African slaves provided free labor while cultivating sugar cane in the Caribbean and America. For instance, Captain Tomba led many villagers in burning huts and killing neighbors who cooperated with slave traders (14). He was later captured and sent to the slave ship where he would be sold in the New World. The slaves also resisted by refusing to eat. Most of them decided they would rather have death than to live the lifestyle on the slave ships. The captains punished those who refused to eat by giving them lashes to the bare skin until they decided to eat. Olaudah Equiano could be considered one of the more fortunate Africans involved in the slave trade. Rediker uses Equiano to show how Africans were kidnapped and brought to the slave ship. Equiano was home alone with his sister when he was snatched by a neighboring enemy tribe. Tribes were kidnapping each other to sell to the slave traders for goods and even weapons. Equiano was separated from his sister and sold off to merchants before actually boarding the slave ship. He mentioned several times how he would rather die than be on the slave ship. He noticed right away that the slave ship was equipped with nettings to prevent precisely such desperate rebellion (109). Equiano went to the Americas and was left alone when none of the merchants purchased him. He was sold to a captain and boarded his ship back to England. On this slave ship, he was treated much better. He got to stay on the deck and eat better food than he had

  • 12. Caliban in Shakespeare s The Tempest Essay The Tempest, considered by many to be Shakespeare s farewell to the theatre, has of all his plays the most remarkable interpretive richness. The exceptional flexibility of Shakespeare s stage is given particular prominence in The Tempest due to its originality and analytic potential, in particular in the presentation of one of his most renowned and disputed characters, Caliban. Superficially portrayed in the play as a most detestable monster, Caliban does not evoke much sympathy. However, on further examination Caliban presents himself as an extremely complex character and soon his apparent monstrosity is not so obviously transparent. In the introduction to Critical Essays on Shakespeare s The Tempest, Editor Alden T. Vaughan describes how the commonly accepted view of Prospero s character was that of a wise and rational ruler [who] could govern the forces of disorder that undermine the family and the state . Indeed, before the beginning of the nineteenth century Prospero was presented as thus, while Caliban as an abominable, inhuman beast. As the play drew a greater audience worldwide however, that view began to change and post colonial interpretations began to present themselves in which Caliban was cast in a more empathic light. These critics noted how easily the figure of Caliban converges with the image of the cannibal, the mythical savage whom many European travellers claimed to have encountered. The name Caliban even seems to be a pointed anagram of cannibal . Since that time, views have changed on the savagery of those natives and with it, on the savagery of Caliban. In the 1978 Royal Shakespeare Company production of The Tempest, David Suchet played a humanized, though exploited, third world Caliban, possibly a representative African or West Indian. This interpretation draws on many views that Caliban represents a subjugated native and that the relationship between Prospero and Caliban is, in fact, a relationship between the oppressor, and the oppressed. Indeed, the island was Caliban s before Prospero and Miranda arrived where he was then reduced to being a slave.

Some people believe that we are automatically taught to know and love God, but what matters is if those individuals seek after and want to know and love God. All human beings desire to be happy it is still questionable though as to why some people choose not to live a happy life and would rather live an unhappy life. For those who are happy are not happy simply because they willed to live the happy life, as bad men do this too, but because they wished to live upright lives, which bad men are unwilling to do (Abel, 129). If one wants to be happy, one must make God the highest good. Now no one is secure in the possession of goods which can be lost against his will. But no one loses truth or wisdom against his will, for he cannot be separated from them

In 2017 feminism means something completely different than what it did in the days of women s suffrage. No longer is feminism working on allowing women just to vote. It focuses on intersectionality, gender norms, women s reproductive rights, and so much more. We are in the third wave of feminism. In 2017 most millennials identify with third wave feminism or a variant of the movement and strive to abolish gender roles, patriarchy, and fight for women s rights and equality. Women and female bodied individuals in America have had issues with inequality in school and their place of work for centuries. While in school young girls are taught that they are not as special as their male peers and experience many limitations. In Judith Lorber s The Social Construction of Gender (1991) we learn how the differences among girls and boys are what society uses to shape gender roles. Young girls learn that their education is not as important as a man s they learn that their roles as mothers and looking attractive is more important even if they grow up to have the same positions as men. The differences that women and men face are a part of the process in which gender is socially constructed. Lorber states, As a process, gender creates the social differences that define woman and man . In social interaction throughout their lives, individuals learn what is expected, act and react in expected ways.... (Lorber, Kirk Okazawa Rey, 1991, p.67). In order to frack, thousands of acres of forests need destroyed to allow roadways the space they need to exist (Lampe 38). However, these roadways allow erosion to occur due to the lack of vegetation (Lampe 38). Along with erosion, siltation occurs and sand, soil, and mud sink to the bottom of rivers, and ponds (Lampe 38). Therefore, the animals living in these habitats may migrate, or simply just die. Trees situated on the acres of land for hundreds of years would have to be chopped down to make way for roadways. In some cases, depending on where the oil reservoir is located, the state declares eminent domain on houses and pays the landowners. Consequently, the houses will be destroyed and the oil reservoirs will be fracked. The greatest common concern on the subject today is water contamination. Individuals grew worried that the chemicals used to gather these natural resources will seep into the water and contaminate the United States. The water necessary to frack is gathered from rivers, lakes, ponds, and even aquifers. This is then combined with chemicals and pumped into the ground. Fracking was exempted from the Federal Safe Drinking Water Actand the chemicals used to frack are not tested frequently in our water (Lampe 34). Bordering on 20 to 40 percent of the water used to frack rises back up to the surface and is stored on site (Lampe 34). An

The abbey church of St Michael is an early Romanesque style building and is located in Hildensheim, Germany. The church was constructed between 1001 and 1031 during the Ottoman period in the early middle ages. St. Michaels was commissioned by and built under the direction of Bishop Bernward. La Sainte Chapelle is located in Paris, France and was founded by King Louis IX. The construction began in 1246 and was finished in 1248. This Gothis style cathedral was designed by Thomas De Cormont, an architect also worked on Amiens Cathedral. I decided to research St. Michael s Church as well as Sainte Chapelle because both churches are very different compared to the other, yet both are beautiful works of architecture that depict the artistic advancements for their time periods. St. Michael s building represents the Romanesque artistic style of the Holy Roman Empire during the early middle ages. • 24. Culture Is The Meaning Of Culture Culture is defined as the behaviors and beliefs characteristics of a particular social, ethnic, or age group (dictionary.com, n.d.). Why has society seen this clearly defined word brought up in many media disputes as of late? People are crossing the line. For years, people have been in heated debates about cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation. Arguments have arisen in art, clothing, and literature and whether their meanings are being exploited or celebrated. Society must find common ground before cultureloses its essence. To choose an accurate position in the argument, one must return to the basics of culture. Culture is mixed, it connotes the mixing from other sources. Instead of shaming those inadvertently skewing customs, a collective consensus must be met to rid society of stereotypes and initiate a blend of cultures. Speaking up for one s culture will prevent a world constantly at battle and speaking up will promote one abounding in appreciation for unconventional style. After all, diversity is far more commended than conformity. If everyone was the same, traveling would be a lot less adventurous and exotic. Every country is proud of its culture because it has shaped the population. The world needs a mutual understanding of each nation s customs to keep culture divine. The act of taking or using things from a culture that is not your own, especially without showing that one understands or respects this culture is cultural appropriation (Cambridge
  • 25. The Elimination Of Poverty Today s Society The Elimination of Poverty in Today s Society Poverty surrounds us within our daily lives. As Paul Wellstone states, More than 35 million Americans one out of every seven of our fellow citizens are officially poor. More than one in five children American children are poor. And the poor are getting poorer (676). The harsh reality of these circumstances are that we do not constantly see it. While many may choose to overlook poverty, there are methods that can be instituted to help reduce and eliminate this deficiency. Poverty can be eliminated by improving education, reducing unintended pregnancies among young woman, and generating new jobs with higher pay. One way poverty can be eliminated is to educate the population for employment opportunities and with financial knowledge. Numerous teenagers drop out of school every year without obtaining their high school diploma. This diploma is the minimum requirement for the majority of all jobs. Parents, schools and the government need to offer additional incentives to keep children in school in order to seek higher education and additional employment opportunities. Laws could be enacted forcing children to attend school until the age of eighteen or possibly joining the military if they choose to drop out. This will ensure these students a bright future without the possibility of living in poverty. Financial stability is something else each child should learn as many adults aren t able to financially
  • 26. Serial Killers And The Killers Serial Killers Serials killers can be defined in different ways, depending on who you ask. If you ask me, I think a serial killer is someone who has killed more than a couple people. If you ask someone else more than likely you will get a different definition. But what really is the definition of a serial killer? According to Zoe McKnight Serial murders usually refer to two or more murders at different places and times with a cooling off period in between, rather than several unrelated murders, or a killing spree (McKnight). So basically the real definition of a serial killer is someone who has killed at least two people with some time in between the murders. Rather than a killing spree which would be killing person after person. That would be a mass murderer. What I find really interesting about serial killers is how they choose their victims or why they choose the people they do, characteristics of the killer s victims and what serial killers have in common with other serial killers, and more importantly why they actually kill people, and what happens to them once they get caught. The majority of serial killers are men, and they mainly target women. Women have danger blind spots that prevent them from recognizing when and how they might be at risk (Richard Rys). Meaning that if a handsome guy walks up to a woman, the woman won t think much about it. No one goes around thinking that every person that talks to them or that they talk to is going to be a killer. Use sporting examples to show your understanding Self efficacy is the beliefs in one s capabilities to organise and execute the courses action required to produce given attainments (Bandura,1997. p.3). Self efficacy beliefs are specific to particular situations and do not represent an overall global trait (Feltz,1988). The Self Efficacy Theory tells us that people generally will only attempt things they believe they can accomplish and won t attempt things they believe they will fail. However, people with a strong sense of efficacy believe they can accomplish even difficult tasks. They see these as challenges to be mastered, rather than threats to be avoided (Bandura,1994). If people have positive feelings within for 4 sources of information in Bandura s self efficacy Theory, then the benefit will be addictive and Self Efficacy will tend to be higher. Reality in most organizations is that product/development managers have little clue of what their current costs are, what their total costs is, and how much more money will they need to complete the project. I have spoken to several development managers in several fortune 500 companies, and they don t know their numbers, instead they will talk about the time frame of the project, head count etc., but not the numbers because they do not know the numbers and nobody in the organization will ever tell them. Smaller companies tend to do better. Managers in smaller companies know the costs and therefore can take better and faster decisions. Understanding all the costs is a
  • 37. The Effects Of Drug Overuse On Drugs Drug overuse has raised considerable awareness for several decades and individual who have drug overuse problems usually have difficulty controlling their drug intake or even their normal life. Approaches like Harm minimisation has been used in policies, programmes and practices to deal with problems associated with drug overuse. The drug policy of Australia is based on harm minimisation and lots of Australians take at least one psychoactive drug on a regular basis, such as some kinds of medication, alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs that all have a potential risk to cause harm (Australian Drug Foundation, 2014). Harm minimisation is one of the most effective approaches towards drug overuse. This essay will examine how the Harm minimisation approaches deal with drug overuse and evaluate three Harm minimisation programs, respectively, Needle and Syringe programmes, Methadone Maintenance Treatment, Medically Supervised injecting Centres. Harm minimisation (Harm Reduction) refers to policies, programmes and practices that aim to reduce harms that associated with over use of both legal and illegal psychoactive drugs (Harm Reduction International, 2016). Harm minimisation approaches mainly focus on reducing harm, ensuring safe use and not always abstinence, which weaken the adverse consequences of drug overuse and benefit not only the individuals who over use drugs but also their families and the community (Stoicescu, 2012). Generally, Harm minimisation follows a pragmatic

A Study On Observation Of Photoluminiscene A study on observation of photoluminiscene in Ruthenium based dye (cis diisothiocyanato bis(2,2 bipyridil 4,4 dicarboxylic acid)ruthenium (II)) Adlina Izny binti Ahmad Advanced Material Laboratory Faculty of Industrial Sciences Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Kuantan, Malaysia Abstract Photoluminescence is light emission that form after the absorption of photons. Dye act as a light absorber. Organic dye is one type of dye, have a small band gap and use as semiconducting material. It will excite the excited electron after absorb light as energy from highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO) to lowest unoccupied molecular orbital(LUMO). The energy of photon must be greater than energy of band gap in order to excite electron. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dye always acts as a light absorber. Dye will absorb light to excite the excited electron state from HOMO to LUMO. So absorbed of photons will be happened and dye will fall back from LUMO to HOMO. So emission of photon will be happened. So the wavelength during absorbance and emission process can be identified by using Photoluminescene (PL) spectrometer. By knowing the wavelength we can determine the concentration of dye. Ruthenium dye is one of the organic dye where it contains small band gap, so it only needs small energy to excite the photon from LUMO to HOMO. So if the dye absorb red colour it will reflect blue colour (refer figure 1). Figure 1: a wheel of colour to estimate absorbed light based on colour of dye Objectives 1. To speculate range of absorbed and reflected wavelength of light by Ruthenium based dye based on its colour 2. To characterize photoluminescence property of the dye using Photoluminescence(PL) spectrometer; usng radiation source which energy is based on the speculated absorbed wavelength 3. To estimate energy loss via radiative recombination i.e., recombination of electron with hole in the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of dye. Julius Caesar Personality Traits In William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, characters encounter prophets, omens, and natural phenomena such as a soothsayer s warning, dreams, and the presence of carrion birds. However, these are disregarded because of the personality traits of the protagonists. Specifically, Julius Caesar is the strong and fearless ruler of Rome, and feels compelled to act fearless due to his position; Marcus Brutus is a widely admired praetor, and is proud of his honorable and noble reputation; and Gaius Cassius is cautious to challenge Brutus decisions. Despite numerous warnings and signs, Caesar, Brutus, and Cassius make poor decisions based on their respective personalities, which ultimately result in their unavoidable demise. Caesar is ... As previously mentioned, Cassius warns Brutus, do not consent/That Antony speak in his funeral:/Know you how much the people may be moved/By that which he will utter? (3.1.263 266). When Brutus dismisses Cassius point, Cassius does not strongly oppose Brutus. He simply expresses his disapproval, as he says I know not what may fall; I like it not. (3.1.275). As a result, Antony turns the people against the conspirators. Even though Cassius is more insightful, he does not make an effort to convince Brutus. He would rather give up his beliefs and risk his life, than endanger the success of the conspirators. Before the war between the triumvirate and the conspirators, Cassius and Brutus discuss their war strategy. Cassius suggests that they let the enemy seek them in Sardis, and Brutus suggests that they go to Philippi. Cassius again gives in to Brutus, merely saying: Then, with your will, go on;/We ll along ourselves, and meet them at Philippi. (4.3.261 262). Once again, Cassius submits to Brutus, and consequently, they do exactly what the triumvirate hoped for by choosing to go to Philippi. During the battle, Cassius witnesses two mighty eagles replaced by ravens and crows that fly over their heads (5.1.91 97). Ravens and crows are carrion birds that

The company grew organically for about two years with products placed in about 200 stores across the country. Then, they brought in private investors, got acquired in 2015, but ended up pulling the company back to private investment in 2016. It has been quite the crazy journey. I hadn t started a business from scratch before and I very much had that need. This tragic part of Jewish history is very well documented as opposite to the Jewish Migration. I found few authors who published articles and books on Impacts of the Holocaust on Jewish Migration. My goal in this research paper is to explore the topic of Jewish Migration by connecting it to the Holocaust. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper in the chronological order. I have tried to analyse reasons and barriers of the Migration of Jewish during the ten year period. It starts with Hitler coming to power and ends with establishment of the State of Israel. In my conclusion I tried to understand how modern world responds to Holocaust. The Holocaust is one of the most tragic pages in the history of mankind and one of the greatest tragedies of the Jewish people many children of survivors, who experienced their parents silence and avoidance of discussing the past and their family s fate, felt this as a personal threat (Dalia Ofer10). Holocaust was a cold blooded and pre deliberate decision to destroy a nation. It was estimated that during the Holocaust about 60% of the total Jewish population of Europe was destroyed according to official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. It is not possible to establish the exact number of victims among the Jewish people due to the lack of reliable data on the extent of the genocide ( Refugees. ). Jewswere

The Power of the Second I heard the Lord say: Mike Pence will be My Daniel and Joseph in America, for there is power in My second in command! Donald Trump s landmark victory as the soon to be 45th president of the United States shakes the political paradigm as we know it, turning the world on its ear. Lance Wallnau, a refreshing Dallas based prophetic voice in the business world and the church, has been prophesying about Donald Trump for over a year in videos and posts all over social media to a growing audience of 200,000 or more. In his landmark and popular book released in September 2016 he describes Donald Trump as: God s Chaos candidate. This term is based on a word he received from the Lord: In a Charisma News article dated October 5, entitled Why I Believe Donald Trump is the Prophesied President, he said this: I heard the Lord say: Donald Trump is a wrecking ball to the spirit of political correctness. Wallnau is not alone in his belief; well known prophets including Dutch Sheets, Chuck Pierce, Kim Clement, Rick Joyner, and Elijah List founder Steve Shultz, as well as many other prophetic voices around the world felt it was a turning point in history for which Donald Trump was the chosen vessel God would use to change the direction of our nation. Now here we stand to make no bones about it; Donald Trump is president elect and will take office on January 20. Until then our divided country will try to heal and find its

It emerges from differences in nationality, ethnicity, religion, region, language, physical ability, sexual orientation and many other differing views and attributions among the population. While diversity can be determined from birth, it can also be determined by the social constructs a person grows up with or around. Diversity has many positive consequences, but diversity also isn t without negative consequences. One of the most diverse cultures in India includes its LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) community. This area of diversity in particularly isn t without criticism, and faces many negative consequences such as prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination. A Look at Prejudice, Stereotypes, and Discrimination The terms prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination are often used interchangeably. Often they will be confused between one another when each word means something different entirely and with each words comes a new level of volatile beliefs. Stereotypes are widely held, but an oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or social group. They are the beliefs or expectations regarding what a certain social group is or should be like. Stereotypes also involve attributions. Stereotypes act as cognitive frameworks for organizing, interpreting, and recalling information (Kalra, Gurvinder, Bhugra, 2010). Stereotypes rely on the way one thinks, feels
  • 44. My First Visit at the Hindu Temple Essay I decided to visit a Hindu temple because the Hindu religion was the religion that I knew the least about and was interested in. This assignment gave me an opportunity to learn more about this religion and what their worship services and rituals were like. The temple that I went to was called BAPS Shri Swaminaryan Mandir and it was located in Lilburn. As soon as I walked in, I was amazed by the beautiful architectural design of this Temple. It seemed like it took a lot of hard work and dedication to make the place what it is now. While I was at the temple, I watched the Hindus perform an ancient Vedic ritual called the Abhishek, a ritual bathing to honor the murti of their God. The Mandir (temple) was constructed with Italian marble, Indian pink sandstone, and Turkish limestone. The walls were all carved with delicate carvings of Gods that were carefully shipped all the way from India. The Hindus had very strict rules that had to be followed, such as: no smoking, drinking or eating inside, cell phones had to be turned off, and we had to be silent. We also had to take our shoes off before entering the temple out of respect for the deities and to keep the floors clean. When I first entered the main worship room, I saw three women walking around the gods in clockwise motion. This clockwise motion is called Pradakshina, a form of worship that represents the fact that god is the center of everything and everyone else surrounds him. There were several gods in the room, each stored in their own window. Many people ranging from old to young kept going up to each god and doing their own prayers. I observed that the prayers were performed in a special way. You had to put your two hands together, close your eyes and pray to that specific God. I couldn t understand the prayers they were reciting because they were saying it in language. BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir offers many traditional rituals and services. However, I decided to observe Abhishek, an ancient Vedic ritual of bathing the murti, which is the divine spirit of God. This ritual is dedicated to the murti Nilkanth Varni, which represents Bhagwan Swaminarayan
