What are the future trends in the Digital Workplace? Are we facing even bigger disruption from social, gamification, and the trends that have been prevalent over the last years or are we coming to a point where things are beginning to mature?
Are we making the most of the emergent trends or are we still using the same thinking and logic we did when the Sharepoint 2007 intranet was launched? It's time to challenge ourselves and our peers!
In this presentation I will take you through:
• The characteristics of the Modern Workplace
• What employees are looking for when using digital tools
• Four trends that is shaping the future of collaboration

Online Community as the means of Digital Transformation | CollabTechFest 2017...Dion Hinchcliffe
As my audience confirmed on slide 14, our existing models for digital change simply aren't working. I suggest there are new, more scalable ways to drive digital transformation. One of the most promising is the use of communities of change agents, which I've both used and seen used in more and more organizations now. Here's my most updated take on enabling contemporary digital change using far more effective ways of engaging the workforce.

The Leadership Challenges of Digital Transformation - The Conference Board - ...Dion Hinchcliffe
Presented to The Conference Board earlier this year, this is my most complete and up-to-date view of how we can accelerate digital transformation in most organization using outside-the-box thinking, and taking advantage of the inherent power of digital networks and people to collaborate, innovate, and scale.
To enable innovation in a large and dispersed organization, there is a need for a shared digital platform with simple, social, mobile, smart and situation-aware services that allow people - employees, partners and customers - to get inspired, openly share ideas, and collaborate to implement the best ideas - big or small.

60% of SharePoint projects are stalled, struggling, or failing, according to research conducted by the Association for Information and Image Management. If the goal is enterprise collaboration, it matters most how people connect and remain engaged, not simply how products and platforms function.
This session takes off the gloves and delivers an open discussion of why SharePoint and collaboration projects fail – and how to successfully recover. Better yet, you will learn how to set yourself up for success from the start!
Watch this session if your organization is contemplating a new project leveraging SharePoint, migrating to a new version of SharePoint, or needs to recover from a problematic implementation.
In addition, the presenter will share 3 specific, real-world cases of failed projects – and how those projects were successfully turned around to deliver a successful project with broad user adoption.
You will learn :
1. The latest stats on SharePoint and collaboration failures
2. Deadly sins to avoid on every project
3. What other organizations are doing wrong that is leading to failed projects
4. Practical habits to prevent project failures
5. 3 real-world case studies on customers who recovered from failed projects

Why Multicloud Integration Will Disrupt Digital Experience and Drive Growth |...Dion Hinchcliffe
Most organizations have a large digital experience gap, both for customer and employee experiences. The solution is to much more strategically use their assets, including data, IT systems, and people, more effectively to industrialize and scale their experience capabilities. The Evolution of the Intranet: Creating a Culture of CollaborationC5 Insight
Collaboration as we know it has changed dramatically over the years. It wasn't that long ago that we had to make a concerted effort to connect with one another; now that same effort is required to disconnect. So why do organizations continue to struggle to connect and engage with employees, customers and partners?
Collaboration tools are both numerous and sophisticated, but are we really better off? If we have the tools, the technology and the will, then why aren't we doing a better job with collaboration in our organizations? In short: Is a company that has a robust Intranet and can truly work together better nothing more than a myth - a lofty goal to which we aspire but will never attain?
In this session, we'll tackle these questions and more, taking an in-depth look into why collaboration projects fail to meet our expectations and what organizations can do today to forge new connections, become more productive, increase employee engagement, and build an Intranet that fosters a culture of collaboration.

The organization projects have a different strategical plan that can help in enterprise goals achievements. There are some of the projects that require some of the bulky of the activities that will help the business management to achieve the implemented goals and objectives using different ideas. There is a uniqueness of the project that can be detected to show some of the differences in the process and ensuring there is goals achievement in the completion of the project process. It is important to consider timelines when expecting the completion of the project.
The projects and daily activities have some of the differences since the projects take too long for its completion while daily activities take a short period. The implementation of the daily activities requires the business to have a continuous operation as deployed by business management. Moreover, the daily activities have no indicated date or schedule plans which are implemented in the project process to help in achieving the business goals.
The organization should create group management to help in making better decisions that will lead to effective practices that will increase the effectiveness of the project management by considering the team members' support and idea-sharing. The organization project should be recorded to make a comparison in some of the areas such as members' roles and responsibilities. Moreover, business management is recommended to focus on some of the areas where they consider the quality of the project's goals achievements. According to Jissink, Rohrbeck, & Schweitzer (2017), the implementation of the group or project team requires effective leadership skills to help in influencing the members for the project successful completion.
Ultimately, some of the challenges occur due to the use of information technology in some areas. The cybersecurity has been issued that interferes with most of the projects since there are some of the members that can leak the information to other business competitors thus exposing the business project planning. Moreover, the budget allocation can also be affected by the use of IT thus creating difficulties in project management, Papke-Shields, & Boyer-Wright (2017). The project's uniqueness should consider some of the needs in planning and having effective preparation for successful project completion.

The organization is progressively setting out for massive scope change projects to adjust to a continually changing business condition. An assortment of elements impacts the multifaceted nature of projects along these lines making their extension hard to characterize and oversee. For these projects to accomplish their key objectives, it can't be essential to break down their degree into controllable constituents, yet additionally to line the pieces back again into a durable entirety.

A Beginner’s Guide to Psychological SafetyMike Arauz
What is it and what can I do?
In 2012, as profiled in this frequently-cited NYTimes article, Google conducted a large company-wide research study to understand why certain teams performed better than others. And what they found was that the most significant differentiating factor among the highest-performing teams was the team’s level of psychological safety.
Psychological safety drives better performance and better business outcomes.
What is psychological safety? Psychological safety is the quality of a team environment where people can speak up and share ideas - even risky or challenging ideas - without fear. Amy Edmondson, a professor at Harvard Business School and advisor at August, is the world’s experts on psychological safety. Edmondson describes psychological safety as the belief that a person will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas questions, concerns, or mistakes.

On Digital Transformation - 10 ObservationsMike Arauz
The ideas about technology that have become lenses and points of view I return to as I try to makes sense of how things are changing, and what can be done. This is a digital world, so none of this is etched in stone. But from what I’ve seen so far, these things seem to be true.
The effectiveness of your marketing efforts are dependent on your ability to engage and empower a network of people connected by a shared interest. It's time to start designing experience for networks instead of just groups of individuals.

The case study discusses the potential of drone delivery and the challenges that need to be addressed before it becomes widespread.
Key takeaways:
Drone delivery is in its early stages: Amazon's trial in the UK demonstrates the potential for faster deliveries, but it's still limited by regulations and technology.
Regulations are a major hurdle: Safety concerns around drone collisions with airplanes and people have led to restrictions on flight height and location.
Other challenges exist: Who will use drone delivery the most? Is it cost-effective compared to traditional delivery trucks?
Discussion questions:
Managerial challenges: Integrating drones requires planning for new infrastructure, training staff, and navigating regulations. There are also marketing and recruitment considerations specific to this technology.
External forces vary by country: Regulations, consumer acceptance, and infrastructure all differ between countries.
Demographics matter: Younger generations might be more receptive to drone delivery, while older populations might have concerns.
Stakeholders for Amazon: Customers, regulators, aviation authorities, and competitors are all stakeholders. Regulators likely hold the greatest influence as they determine the feasibility of drone delivery.

According to a McKinsey study* from
October 2020, organizations
implemented changes to increase
remote working and collaboration 43x
faster than they expected, in an average
of just 10.5 days compared to their
previous estimation of 454 days. Before
COVID-19, people used web-based work
software as a necessity, while preferring
to “take it offline” when possible. The
forced, mass-adoption of online
communication and collaboration tools,
however, showed us that some tech
solutions can actually make work better.

11. In 2019 a multinational pharmaceutical and life
sciences company had made a commitment to a
global rollout of Microsoft Teams. But, as in many
corporations, it was hardly in use. People still
preferred to get work done in hallway chats, phone
calls and in-person meetings.
When COVID-19 restrictions forced everyone to
work from home, there was genuine concern
among leadership about how work would get done.
Suddenly, Microsoft Teams came to life.
One-to-one private email conversations moved to
shared, open channels. Working documents moved
from private desktops to shared online folders.
Project management moved from cumbersome
spreadsheets to web-based agile
task-management tools.
Less than a year later, leaders credited the new
ways of working enabled by these tech tools with
unlocking speed, improving customer centricity,
and increasing adaptivity across the organization.

In 2020, leaders were reminded that
asking the right question can be more
valuable than having the right answer.
For many people 2020 was one of the
most difficult years of their life. Personal
and professional hardship collided,
impacting our work lives in ways we
couldn’t have imagined. Effective leaders
leaned on their empathic skills, focusing
on how to create space for team
members to speak up and feel heard.
We learned that good leadership
depends on helping the team to listen
and learn together.

16. A national nonprofit organization that provides
health care services was already facing significant
headwinds before the arrival of the COVID-19
pandemic. And, as an organization that is committed
to providing equitable access to health care for all
people, the organization was deeply affected by the
2020 protests for racial justice.
Even as the needs of the patients and communities
they served increased, leaders in the organization
recognized that it was critically important to foster a
culture where everyone could speak up with their
ideas, listen deeply to each other, and learn
together through a turbulent time.

Psychological Safety is the quality of a team environment
where people can speak up and share ideas without fear
3 TIPS TO INCREASE PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY
Make space
What has your attention as we start this meeting? What
questions do you have to clarify your understanding?
Create a
learning frame
What are we uncertain about? What do
we hope to learn from this work?
Respond
productively
Thank you for sharing. What
might we do differently?
Adapted from the work of Amy C. Edmondson
USE THIS TO
Facilitate meetings
where each person
feels safe to speak
without judgement
Help team
members feel
valued for their
contributions
Encourage team
members to share
new ideas that may
be risky

2020 showed us that our normal ways
of making decisions aren’t good
enough. Traditional approaches to
decision-making start with the
assumption that there is a “right”
answer, and that the process should
maximize the chances of getting to
that perfect solution. Being forced to
navigate such an unpredictable
environment revealed that a different
decision-making process that
prioritizes fast learning, and starts with
the assumption that the best answers
are unknown can be more effective.

21. At the end of 2019, a leading global software
company committed to developing a new
decision-making capability building program as a
strategic pillar in a broader culture transformation
that was already underway. Partnering with the
Global Head of Culture, August had just started the
initial phase of launching the new program in
February 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
With the endorsement and active participation of
the CEO, the company quickly embraced the new
decision-making program and methodology and
fast-tracked the creation of a scalable online
learning experience. Beginning with the top 200
senior-most leaders, managers were trained on a
new decision-making playbook, and used the new
methods to accelerate smarter and clearer decisions
to deal with the emerging business, social, and
pandemic-related crises.
“The new decision-making process put us in a
position to respond quickly to changing
circumstances.” – SVP
Is it Right? Is it Safe to Try?
23. CONSENT
A way to make decisions that includes dissenting perspectives
while also prioritizing progress over perfection
USE THIS TO
Make complex
decisions that require
integrating multiple
points of view
Avoid going around
and around on a
decision without
any progress
Eliminate “silent
dissent” - people
agree in the moment
and undermine later
INSTRUCTIONS
Propose
Share context and make a specific proposal;
start with “I propose we…”
Clarifying
Questions

In June 2020, millions of people across
the United States, joined by many more
around the world, gathered to protest
ongoing police violence and America’s
long legacy of anti-Black systemic
racism. These protests brought new
attention and urgency to an ongoing
movement for racial justice. For many
organizations, this was a tipping point.
They started to move beyond messages
of support, and began to take
accountability for their role in upholding
systems of oppression.

28. ROUNDS
Letting each person speak one at a time,
in turn, without interruption
USE THIS TO
Include different
personalities
and ways of
communicating
Make conversations more
balanced and less
dominated by the loudest
voice in the room
Avoid defaulting
to the most
senior person's
opinion

What questions do you have to clarify your understanding?
Silently write down ideas, then share one person at a time
Share topics to discuss during the meeting

29. TAKE SPACE / MAKE SPACE
A mindset and practice to create space to
hear all voices equally
If you are someone who
normally takes up more space
by speaking a lot, sit back and
make space for others.
- Pause and count to three
- Only speak if you have something
new to add
- W.A.I.T. – Why am I talking?
If you are someone who
normally makes space by
staying quiet, invite yourself
to speak up.
- Ask to pause if you need more time
- Remember that your perspective is
valuable
USE THIS TO
Minimize the
influence of overly
dominant voices
Challenge the
default ways of
communicating
within a team
Make it easier for
quieter
personalities to
participate
30. INTENT VS. IMPACT
Separating what we intended from how our
actions impacted the other person
USE THIS TO
Avoid being defensive
or dismissive
Validate other
people’s feelings
Develop empathy for other
people’s experiences
MAKE OTHERS AWARE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
OBSERVATION
“I noticed that you …”
INTERPRETATION
“I interpret this as …”
IMPACT
“I felt hurt/frustrated/dismissed…”
REQUEST
“In the future, I’d appreciate if you…”
GRATITUDE
“Thank you"
REPEAT AND CLARIFY
“What I heard you say was…”
EMPATHIZE
“I can see why that made you feel…”
COMMIT
“In the future, I will…”
