Audience Research
Are you male or female? As you can see from this chart, 85.7% of me
responses said they were female, and 14.3%
said that they were neither male or female.
How old are you?
From this graph we can see that
my demographic for music
audience are between 11 and 20
years old, though this doesn’t
mean that I could not reach out
to other demographics because
there will be some who will be
willing to give my artist a go and
maybe enjoy their music.
How often do you watch music videos?
The graph shows a range of responses
here, though the overwhelming
response would be very often, with a
42.9% choosing this answer, that’s
nearly half of all of the responses, the
only option that wasn’t chosen was
often, so that does show a medium
sized divide in my audience as it seems
they either watch music videos very
often or rarely and there is no in
between.
Why do you watch music videos?
From this graph we can see that people will watch the video for the video, and what it has to offer,
instead of seeing the artist or even for the music, this shows that the song that we choose will not be
looked at or listened to as much and there will be more focus on the video. This linked with the last
questions shows that I need to make a good video to keep the attention of the audience because
otherwise I could lose half of my viewers.
What is your preferred genre of music?
Genre of music was always going to be a large
range of choices, but the choice that was picked
the most was Pop, this is most likely because it
is the most mainstream genre, not to say that
the other genres aren’t mainstream but it is the
most popular. Though it is only more popular by
another 14.3% over the rest of the genres, so
luckily our song is in the pop genre, so we can
reach out to the main audience. Though it may
seem like I’m not catering for all of my
audience, but this is their preferred music
genre, and I was never going to be able to cater
for everyone, but because it is Pop, most people
will still enjoy the song.
What are your expectations from a music
video from your preferred genre?
A mix of answers for this question, but
they all seem to be things that you
would find in a music videos adhering
to conventional music video
stereotypes, things like good music or
the band performing.
When did you last buy a CD from a store?
From this graph we can see that people
don’t really go out and buy CD’s
anymore, their popularity has dropped
rapidly and this is shown as no one
from my questionnaire has bought a CD
in the last 3 weeks, it has all been
longer than that. This puts pressure on
me to make my digi pack the best it can
be so that the remaining audience who
does buy CD’s will buy mine.
Do music videos inspire you at all
(advertisements)?
Though the answers are close, the most popular answer for this question is no, this would suggest
that I would have to make my music video the best it can be so that I can change those answers to
yes, my video has to be conventional and adhere to conventions of a typical music video, but also
has its own twist and make it unique so that people will watch it and enjoy it still.
