Attitude – A state of mind, a set
of views or thoughts, regarding
some topic that have an
evaluative feature (Positive,
negative or neutral). In fact
attitude is tendency to behave or
act (NCERT XII)
Jung's defines attitude
"readiness of the psyche to
act or react in a certain way“
(Main, 2004).
Factors affecting Attitude
1. Family
2. Society
3. Socio-economic-status.
4. Culture
5. Values
6. Beliefs
Components of attitude – A-B-C
Components. (Rosenberg and Hovland, 1960).
A – Affective (Emotional)
B – Behavioural (Tendency
to Act)
C – Cognitive (Thought)

Characteristics of attitude –
1. Attitude is a tendency to behave.
2. Attitude are not just views or
opinions but they have emotional,
cognitive and behavioural
components.
3. Attitudes can be positive, negative
or neutral.
4. Attitude is a part of cognition.
5. It can be modified.
6. Attitude is a state of mind.
7. Attitude results from
upbringing and experience
i.e. it is acquired.
8. Attitude is manifested by
behaviour.
9. Complex set of emotions, beliefs
and behaviors.
10. Attitude characterize a person.
11. It is affected by past and present
life of an individual.
12. It is state towards a person, object,
situation, thing or place.
