Jill Fleming

Date/Period: September 27-October 9

Subject: Social Studies/History
Class: 11th grade
Topic: What was going on in history the day you were born?

Time: One week time and 3 days, first week gathering information on related topic. Three days
of second week will be utilized to finalize the assignment and prepare for presentation to the
class.
Learning Objectives
The student will demonstrate an understanding from differing points of view on the same
historical event or issue by assessing claims from different sources, their reasoning, and evidence
of such events.
Computer software and hardware, Presentation software, Webcam, Video equipment, personal
device (i.e. cell phone, tablet), iPod touch or iPads.
Resources/Materials
Activities
Describe the impact from the following categories World Events, U. S. Events and Entertainment
had on the society.
Students will choose the years of 1965, 1981 and 1997 in history based on their birth date. For
instance my birthday is August 8, so I will chose that date along with the above years and choose
something significant for the date that goes with your birthday and that year in history. After
choosing the date and year if nothing significant occurred the student can chose 2 or 3 years
before or after the year they were born.

For the year the students were born I would like a chronological time line of their life it does not
have to be long just make it interesting.

Description of class
30 students-18 females, 12 males all students in this class are African American and from middle
to lower class families. There are three students with exceptionalities; however, the students have
been mainstreamed into classes from a young age. The students learner styles is a combination of
visual and auditory thus the selection of how student’s work with be presented.

by themselves or in a group by the second class meeting of the week.
If students decide to work in a group each student is still responsible for their own portion of
their date in history. If one or more students share the same birth date I will assign a topic with
the years selected to be discussed.
