ASSURE method
A Analyze Learners There are 20 students 11 girls, and 9 boys. There are 2
Muslims, 3 Jewish and 2 African Americans.
The students already have a basic understanding of some
of their own holidays and celebrations. Also they have
some experience using the internet and books to do basic
research.
S State Objectives My students will be able to describe many different holiday
traditions in multiple cultures by doing group presentations that
discuss origins, associated music, food, and common acts of
celebrations. Students will demonstrate these qualities of holiday
traditions by the end of the week with 80% accuracy.
S Select Methods,
Media and Materials
The materials needed for this assignment are:
At least 5 computers with an internet connection so each
group can research a holiday.
List of appropriate holidays for the class to choose from.
A projector or a smart board so the students will be able
to present their holiday to the class.
An efficient method of playing music that is associated
with a given holiday.
Recipes and ingredients to the traditional food associated
with the holiday.
Venn diagram Sheets for the presentations, five for each
person.
Group Evaluation form for each student.
U Utilize Media and
Materials
1. I will divide the students into five groups of four. Then
the students will have a short amount of time to research
and find a suitable holiday from the list I give them, in
which nobody in the group celebrates, to do a
presentation to the rest of the class.
2. Once the holiday is chosen, the students will use class
time to put together a presentation containing the origins
of the holiday, customs that individuals partake in during
these holidays, music associated with the holiday, and
also a recipe of a common food that is prepared and
consumed during the holiday.
3. The students will submit these recipes to me and I will
arrange to have the cooks at the school prepare them on
the day of the presentations.
4. On the day of the presentations, I will check all the
required technology to make sure that it will work during
the presentations. Also I will have to make sure that the
cooks were able to prepare the traditional food for the
presentations.

5. The groups will then present their holiday by using the
projector, speakers, and the food that the cooks have
prepared.
6. I will then facilitate a discussion to clarify topics after
each presentation.
7. Following the discussion, the students will have to make
a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting a holiday
they celebrate to the holiday that they just learned about.
R Require Learner
Participation
1. Each student will be required to be a part of a group
presentation. They will be required to participate in the
presentation itself and also the research done prior to the
presentation.
2. Each student in the class will be required to complete a
Venn diagram that compares and contrasts the holiday
that was just presented to a holiday that they celebrate.
3. The students will be required to fill out evaluation sheets
concerning the other members of their group and their
work ethics. These will be turned individually and the
other members of their group will not see their responses.
E Evaluate and Revise 1. Throughout the presentation, I will evaluate whether or
not the student presentations are teaching the other
students enough about the holiday. If I believe that the
presentations are lacking information that I think the
students should know about the topic, then I will step in
after the presentations and pick up the loose ends.
2. I will evaluate the Venn diagrams to make sure that the
students understand the holidays that they were just
taught. If the Venn diagrams show that the students did
not maintain the information with at least 80% percent
accuracy then I will put together a small summary of the
holidays that they are struggling with. Also I will revise
the presentations accordingly to ensure that if this lesson
is taught again, the students will better learn the material.
3. I will also evaluate the group evaluation forms to ensure
that all students are participating in the presentation. If I
find that many students are not participating, I will revise
the presentations to ensure that every student is
responsible for a portion of the assignment. Also with
this revision, I will decide whether the groups will need
to be more strictly decided to ensure that there is an even
balance of students in each group.
4. I will evaluate the effectiveness of the traditional food. If
I decide that having the traditional food is not efficient
for teaching the students about the holiday, then I will
have to find another form of intelligence to target other
than their taste.
