I will have the students do a research project where they learn about traditions other than their own by assigning groups mixed in culture and religion, such as having Muslim students learn about African American traditions. I will use various methods to engage different learning styles, including visual aids like posters and videos, auditory tools like stories and songs, and hands-on activities like having students bring in items from their own traditions. I will require all students to participate in activities and videos. Their participation will be a major part of being graded.
4th of july assure revised

An assignment centered around the assure method was given at the begging of the semester for Marshall University's CI355 course. We were to improve that assignment implementing new tools we have discovered throughout the course at the end of the semester. This is the updated version.

The teacher will teach 20 4th grade students about various winter holiday traditions. There are 11 female students and 9 male students, including 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish students, and 2 African American students. Half the class learns visually while the other half learns verbally. The students will learn about the traditions of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Eid al-Fitr with 70% accuracy and understand differences between the holidays. Through show-and-tell style presentations using gifts and items, the students will explain the meaning and significance of holidays in their cultures to classmates. The teacher will ensure all show-and-tell items are appropriate and will encourage questions from students.

ASSURE
- 1. #2 - Teaching Holiday traditions to 4th graders. There are 20 students 11 girls, and 9 boys. There are 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish and 2 African Americans. These students are active and engaged learners as well as hands on leaning students. Students will learn the diversity of different cultures during their holidays. They will also learn to effectively learn to communicate with one another using the 21st Century Learning pillar project based learning. Finally they will be able to take their research and effectively present their findings to their classmates and be able to effectively express and show what their assigned holiday is about . The materials the students will need are posters and markers, or a computer to create a PowerPoint presentation. They will also use a combination of computers and their classmates to research the various holidays that they are assigned. Markers and poster boards will be supplied as well as access to a computer lab to prepare their presentations. They will be given ample time to research in the computer lab and will be given 30 minutes to sit and talk with a classmate who celebrates the holiday they were assigned. After having the time to prepare all of their materials my students will present their findings to their other classmates. They will also have to come up with their own way to test their classmates knowledge after they have presented, like having a question and answer session or making a project for their classmates to participate in that demonstrates the knowledge they gained.
- 2. As the instructor I will be able to see that my students have learned about different cultures other than their own by their presenting their findings. It will be clear to measure the social skills that they will have developed from this activity as well because students will be paired with other classmates that they may not normally spend time with. I will also be able to see that they have understood their findings by them having the ability to assess their own peers on their presented information. By grading their peers this makes them the classroom experts on this holiday. If we were to ever come back to a subject including the holiday that they were assigned they can be used as a reference.
