A. I will be teaching Holiday traditions to 4th graders. Within this class there are 20 students.
11 of which are females and the other 9 are males. Among them are 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish
and 2 African Americans. The students each know the traditions of their own cultures
specific religious holiday. (Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza, Eid Al-Fitr) Fifty percent of
the class is visual learners, while the other half is verbal learners.
S. The students will learn holiday traditions with a level of 70% accuracy. They will also
learn the differences in tradition that each holiday holds. Before the project starts the students
will be asked some questions about what they know of the different holidays. Then once we do
the projects, they will be asked what all they know about the holiday now.
S. Materials: the students will improvise with what they have received during their cultures
respected holiday and tell the other students about the item and what the holiday is about.
Media: the students will then be tasked with a bit of “show and tell”. They will show the
others gifts or other items that they usually receive during these holidays and they will tell a bit
about what the holiday means and the significance of the gifts they receive.
Method: since it will be a “show and tell” type of presentation, I believe this will play to
the class’ strengths because it is both verbal and visual.
U. I will personally preview all items that the students bring in for the project so that I can
determine if they are acceptable for use. Once I approve of all items, I will prepare the classroom
by using different types of decoration that the holidays have. Once the classroom is ready, I will
give a brief introduction on what the objective for this project is and allow them some time to
prepare for their presentations.
R. I will strongly encourage the students to ask questions when each student is done
presenting. I believe this would allow for more of an understanding because they could see what
objects are being shown and they could then understand why that would be significant to that
holiday.
E. Before we start with the presentations I will ask all the students what they know about
the different holidays. Then after all the presentations are finished, I will then ask the students for
feedback on the assignment and ask them some general questions about what they learned about
2. the different holidays. Like if they learned something new about one of them and what they like
about each of the different holidays.
