This document discusses different methods for observing and recording children's behaviors, including anecdotal records, running records, specimen records, and time sampling. Anecdotal records involve taking detailed narrative notes about specific incidents as they occur, including what happened, when and where, what was said and done. Running records also take a narrative form but focus on recording behaviors sequentially as they happen. Specimen records are similar but the observer first decides the purpose. Time sampling involves observing subjects at preset time intervals to acquire representative behavior samples.
