Formative and summative assessments play important roles in education. Formative assessment provides feedback during instruction to help teachers adjust their teaching and help students improve their learning. Summative assessment evaluates student learning at the end of a course. The author believes formative assessment is most important as it allows teachers to identify what students understand and don't understand to target instruction. In the next step of their assignment, the author will give a quiz to check student understanding and provide feedback before moving to the next standard.
