Mary Lee is pursuing her MAED degree to reenter the workplace in a college or university setting. She has experience with both formative and summative assessments as a student and teacher. Formative assessments, like ongoing feedback and discussion questions, are effective if done correctly and in a timely manner. However, summative assessments like standardized tests do not always accurately measure what a person has learned, as some are not good test takers and creativity is limited on tests. Assessment in education should include both formal and informal methods but formal assessments need to consider factors like culture, background, disabilities, and should be implemented early to provide support and intervention.

2. Introduction
 MY professional goal is to earn the MAED and reenter
the workplace in an College or University setting.
This course work will prepare me with more knowledge
on assessment types, and they are conducted in, and out
of class, and more than just standardize testing, because it
does not give an accurate account of what a person really
learned.
At this time I am disabled and desire to reenter the
workplace doing what I love teaching.

• I have experiences in assessment as a student and as a
teacher as a student in formative and summative formative
in critical thinking discussion questions and ongoing
feedback from instructors that dig for deeper thinking to
evaluate if I have learned in summative in the papers that I
write that will allow the instructor to judge what I learned.
As a teacher in ongoing monitoring, quiz, collaboration
discussions and standardize and end of chapter test.

4. Introduction
• I believe that formative assessment is good and
effective if it is done proper like corrected with the
right answer for re-enforcement in a timely manner. I
believe that summative is somewhat reliable but does
not really measure accurately what a person knows, as
in standardize testing some people are not good testers
and creativity is limited.

• The role that assessment should be formal and informal in education
but with formal many factors need to be consider, such as culture,
background diversity, socioeconomic- status, disability, etc., and
should be done as early as possible for added supporrt and early
intervention. Formal assessment is systematic, and has its place
because formal assessments are used in combination with goals and
objectives set forth at the beginning of a lesson or the school year.
Formal assessments are also different from informal assessments in
that students can prepare ahead of time for them.
