Intelligence is the ability to
• learn about
• learn from
• understand about
• interact with one’s environment.
Intelligence is the faculty of understanding
What is Intelligence???
What Is Artificial Intelligence???
• Artificial Intelligence (AI) is usually defined as the science of making computers
do things that require intelligence when done by humans.
• A.I is the study of ideas that enable computers to be intelligent
• In short, AI Is a Technique of getting Machines Work and Behave like Humans.
Idea and definition of AI was given by John Mc Carthy in
the year 1950.
He defined the AI as the science and engineering of
making intelligent machines.
He stated AI as:
“Every aspect of learning or any other feature of intelligence can be so precisely
described that a machine can be made to mimic it”.
In other words, AI is the theory and development of computer
systems able to perform tasks normally requiring human
intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision
making and translation between languages.

Types of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence works with the help of:
• Artificial Neurons (Artificial Neural Network)
• Scientific theorems (If-Then Statements, Logics)
How Does AI Works??
Artificial neural networks are composed of interconnecting
artificial neurons (programming constructs that mimic the
properties of biological neurons).
Benefits and Drawbacks
Advantages
The most important purpose of A.I. is to
reduce human casualties in
• Wars
• Dangerous Workspaces
• Car Accidents
• Natural Disasters
Or to just make everyday life easier by
helping with tasks such as:
• Cleaning
• Shopping
• Transportation
Disadvantages
• Increased costs
• Difficulty with software development -
slow and expensive
• Few experienced programmers
• Few practical products have reached the
market as yet.
• AI Controversies
• Potential job takeover
• Growing laziness
• Robot Relationships?

AI & Web Resources
• New forms of human/machine dialogue are emerging as robots understand vast
amounts of content rather than simply indexing content as strings of characters.
• Recognizing strings of characters as entities (e.g. names = authors) allows for
meaningful associations between entities and reasoning over these
relationships.
• User intent, discovered through conversational models of human–computer
interaction, allows for a deeper understanding of exactly what researchers are
looking for.
• Publishers can use Academic Knowledge APIs to interpret academic user
queries and find rich information from the Microsoft Academic Graph.
EXAMPLES
When we begin to type in Google its
predictive search engine helps us in
choosing from the recommendations when
we begin to type search term that is
Artificial Intelligence in action.
So by using Artificial Intelligence Google
attempts to guess what we are trying to
find.
Today in Search engines, academic‐related
search queries trigger specific entities, such
as the particular specialty or best known
paper of the person you are searching for.
We can also see related experts in the field;
if you search for a particular journal, you will
be shown related journals .
Academic Assistant
With Siri and Alexa available on apple devices nowadays, artificial intelligence is
gaining more and more traction in our everyday activities.
G-Mail also uses AI on regular basis. If we open our inbox right now we will
notice that there are separate sections e.g.: primary section , social section
and all.
G-Mail also has a separate section called spam mails also. It makes use of
concepts of AI and machine learning algorithms to classify emails as spam
or non spam.
Another example is that of twitters AI whereby any sort of hates pages or terroristic
languages in tweets.
So here AI makes use of machine learning and deep learning and natural language
processing in order to filter out any offensive or reportable content
With the help of AI and machine learning Netflix has developed
personalized movie recommendation for each of its users.
NETFLIX studies each users personal detailed and recommends
the movies on the basis ofwhat we watch is recommended.
