Informal Fallacies Of An Informal Fallacy
Our lives revolve around money. The value of a dollar does not buy much anymore; everything comes
with a price tag. The media likes to entice people with catchy slogans, celebrities or any other setup
just so they can obtain our money. Once they grasp our attention we realize most of these attention
grabbers had no relation to their argument or what they are trying to sell. Thus the correct term for the
types of misleading ads and television commercials is called informal fallacies. The purpose of an
informal fallacy can be to enact reactions from the audience, used to discredit a person or lastly appeal
to a certain outlook. They mainly lack the validity in order to prove their argument. The media
provides us with many scenarios using different forms of informal fallacies. I will provide three
notable examples of informal fallacies by explaining the type of fallacy and why the media used this
fallacy.
To start off, I should first differentiate between a formal and informal fallacy. A formal argument is
when the argument lacks the correct structural form. The form of the fallacy will then be able to tell us
if the fallacy is valid or invalid. The difference is in the way the argument is written, informal fallacies
lack context in order to make the argument. For example, I came across a nationwide commercial that
took a different approach in order to sell to the public. Rather than sell to their audience some reasons
why they should chose to consult with the company they

Analysis Of 24-Hour Psycho
Clearly heavily influenced by Douglas Gordon s 24 Hour Psycho, Don DeLillo decidedly creates a
somewhat parallel universe in which Jim Finley, the protagonist of Point Omega partakes in
voyeuristic acts and shares many odd similarities with 24 Hour Psycho s Norman Bates that illustrate
Finley as a clone of Bates, allowing the reader (and watcher) to understand both personas from a more
understanding perspective. The novella Point Omega immediately alludes to 24 Hour Psycho as the
epilogue presents a scene in which an anonymous voice we later confirm as Finley, explains his
ongoing thoughts and experience with the film playing in the background. We are able to observe
DeLillo s interest in 24 Hour Psycho which translates then into his character Finley, who displays his
captivation with the film through his own film. Finley is an aspiring filmmaker who seeks out Richard
Elster, a retired strategist during the Iraq War to star in his upcoming film project. During his time
spent learning about Elster s past, he stays with Elster in an under furnished house in the middle of the
desert, one with a scarcity of clocks or other time telling machines so that his time spent there is
literally immeasurable. And even within his own film, Finley allocates a lot of freedom for the
duration of his film. Once Elster begins sharing his experiences regarding the war and life as a whole,
Finley then turns his concern, or lack thereof, to the film s running time because to him, it could be

Reduce Energy Usage
Strategies to Reduce Energy Usage in Offices and increase IT Sustainability
Research Studies by Intel Corporation.
According to an Intel White Paper of December 2009, Intel reported these studies about reduction of
energy usage in offices.
Evaluating Enabling Technologies
Replacing Desktop PCs and Cathode Ray Tube Monitors: Over the last decade companies have shifted
to laptop PCs for about 83 percent of the workforce, primarily, in an effort to increase employee
productivity. A secondary benefit has been to significantly improve energy efficiency. To determine
the factors that affect office power consumption, and further improve energy efficiency, Intel
conducted a power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Intel s studies have shown that raising employees awareness of how much power their equipment is
consuming, and getting them involved in reducing that amount, is critical to success in reducing
energy use in the office environment. We have taken an example of the Intel Company: Intel
conducted a small PoC that explored how they could encourage behavior modification by showing
employees that small things, such as using standby mode on their laptops or turning off a printer when
it s not being used, can add up to big savings. During this PoC, they first established a baseline of
energy consumption through real time metering of energy use in 12 cubicles. In one group, they
focused solely on awareness and education. Every two to three days, Intel provided this group with
information on how much energy they were using, and how much it cost. They did not provide any
other information or requests to change behavior to the members of this group. For the second group
they installed a third party software agent that deployed and enforced power management profiles.
The profiles were set up to put the monitor into standby after ten minutes of idle time, and to put the
PC into standby after 30 minutes of idle time. After two additional weeks of real time metering, Intel
examined the energy use of the two groups.

The Negative Effects of Twilight
The vampire craze has taken over what young teenagers today indulge themselves in regards to
reading material. But has this new fad had a negative effect on teens? Some of theses books (for
example the Twilight series written by Stephanie Meyer) have portrayed an example for teenagers and
even adults that should be more closely examined. A hundred years ago, books for kids were
dominated with stories about boys having adventures and girls finding husbands; then, from the 1950s
to the 1970s, the themes were emerging sexuality and parental conflict. The current age of young adult
literature contains a large chunk of stories of teenage girls falling in love with the supernatural.
Multiple books about girls getting into relationships with vampires and werewolves have risen in the
past 10 years. Maria Nikolajeva, a Cambridge University professor of literature stated that We don t
know exactly how literature affects the brain, but we know that it does; some new findings have
identified spots in the brain that respond to literature and art. (Live Science) Knowing that literature
affects the brain and how it develops, we should be cautious as to what we are giving to the younger
generation to read. The youth of today are being overwhelmed with multiple messages on what to look
for in a partner, and what constitutes as a normal relationship (Chang). If you use Twilight as an
example for these messages that are being broadcasted, it is clear to see that the examples that have

The Innocence of Daisy Miller Essay
In 1878, Henry James wrote, Daisy Miller, a novella about a young American girl and her travels in
Europe. Daisy Miller is a complex short story with many underlying themes such as appearance
versus reality, knowledge versus innocence, outward action versus inward meditation, and Nature
versus urbanity. In this short story, one is left to judge whether Daisy Miller, the main character of the
story, is a pretty American flirt or a misunderstood, modern young woman. By probing into the
complexities and contradictions of Daisy s character, it is obvious that Ms. Miller is merely a
misunderstood young woman.
Through his novel, Henry James shows his readers that the gap between what people believe to be true
and the actual truth can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He decides a pretty American flirt would be acceptable for him to know. Mainly he wants an excuse to
spend time with her. His desire for her to be innocent and undesigning reflects not only on her true
personality but also on his lust for her.
Mrs. Costello s character symbolizes old money and culture, even though she is American, and thus
sets up a stark contrast to Daisy Miller, a character devoid of much ritual or formality. Mrs. Costello
had lived much of her life in Europe and had kept a society so intentionally exclusive in America that
she has separated herself from any of the qualities associated with the innocence and natural
spontaneity of an American.
She believes the Miller s to be common and tells Winterbourne to stay away from them. However,
Daisy represents to Winterbourne what he lacks, standing as a metaphor of what all of Europe lacks,
as long as Daisy does not go too far with her social freedom.
Winterbourne is largely blinded to the honesty and innocence that Daisy imparts because he has
trouble recognizing a manner that has become foreign to him. Thus when Daisy walks calmly along
with both Giovanelli and Winterbourne in the Pincio and does not seem anxious to get rid of
Winterbourne, Winterbourne is perplexed (36 37). He does not realize that she does not know better
and she will ruin herself because of it.

The Cause Of The Catastrophe Analysis
The Cause of the Catastrophe , was a Newspaper article written in a paper called the Halifax Herald,
two days after the Halifax explosion, on December 8th 1917. The source comes directly from Halifax,
referencing key issues that came as consequences of the explosion. This article is aimed towards other
Canadian citizens, as the Halifax Herald was a local newspaper (Now called the Chronicle Herald , a
newspaper that covers all of Nova Scotia), looking to simply spread information to citizens of Halifax
and discuss the destruction that ensued two days prior. While this article comes from a primary and
reputable source, it does include a small amount of bias when explaining the cause of the explosion.

Style Analysis of Amy Tan in The Joy Luck Club
Raymond Chandler, a fiction writer, once said, The most durable thing in writing is style. True, the
style is often defined as one of the most important elements in writing. In Amy Tan s novel, The Joy
Luck Club , the style significantly contributes to the development of both the tone and the theme of
the influences that a mother can have on her daughter. The author effectively portrays the somber tone
and the theme by using a concise style of diction, images, details, language, sentence structure, point
of view, and organization. The author emphasizes the tone and the theme of the novel by using a
variety of diction words that include repetition of words, archaic words, connotation, and abstract
diction. Primarily, the usage of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the night, Lena hears shouts across the wall and also whack! whack! whack! , the sounds of
killing (Tan 114). The sight and sound imageries seem to indicate a lachrymose tone in Lena s house.
In general, these imageries provide a picture of melancholy, which achieves a somber tone of the
novel. Furthermore, the author explores the tone of the novel by providing specific details. In An mei s
childhood story, the author chooses to describe the pain An mei feels as the soup pours over her by
providing details of the twinge. She describes it as the kind of pain [specially] terrible that a little child
should never remember it and how it still remains in [An mei s] skin s memory (Tan 39). By depicting
these details of the pain, Tan expresses the feeling of misery An mei feels, which appends to the
melancholy tone. Additionally, in the story of Ying ying s first marriage, the author presents explicit
details of the emptiness Ying ying feels by portraying details of her as a tiger that neither pounce[s]
nor lay[s] waiting between the trees and an unseen spirit (Tan 285). This emptiness Ying ying feels
seems to indicate the melancholy tone that appears noticeable in the novel. Clearly, the details Amy
Tan chooses to describe in the novel seem to specify the somber tone. Likewise, the language the
author uses also clarifies the tone and the theme of the novel. In many positions in the novel,
languages such as grief, despair, hate, and revenge

The case selected for this paper is that of the unsolved murders of a family of eight in Pike County,
Ohio on April 22, 2016. Eight members of the Rhoden family were found shot in the head, execution

day old newborn baby, a six month old and a three year old, all three children were unharmed

victim was found in a fourth home with the unharmed newborn baby (Valencia, 2017). The murders

Deductive reasoning draws from specific conclusions of general principles (Bartol Bartol, 2010).
Arrival at the crime scene and drawing theories from the scene would be the initial step of deductive
analysis. Forming a hypothesis from theories drawn at the scenes would follow. The hypothesis here
is; there are many aspects of this crime and unknown suspects that are obvious such as the
sophistication of the attacks and the fact that the young children were spared, this alone aligns with
criminals who are experienced and have a clear method of what they do. Observation of the multiple
crime scenes and the way in which the family was killed leads to, this act of violence against this
family showing as being business related and not personal. This is based on the fact that the victims
were shot execution style while sleeping in their beds (Valencia, 2017). It is possible the marijuana
grow operations are connected in some way to the killings. Due to there being more than one crime
scene within close proximity to each other, there may be multiple assailants in this crime. The
hypothesis drawn in this case can only be confirmed after an arrest of a suspect is made, this case

Henry Louis Gehrig was a popular German-American baseball...
Henry Louis Gehrig was a popular German American baseball player. He was most known for several
major league records that he set during his career. For example, he held a record for the most career
grand slams; this record stood for 75 years but was matched in 2013 by another talented player.
Seemingly, Mr. Gehrig s career was on the fast track to success; however, in 1939 he was diagnosed
with a horrible affliction that immediately ended his career. Mr. Gehrig was diagnosed with
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis when he was 36. Sadly, within two years he had succumbed to the
disease. Lou Gehrig was well known in his lifetime as a great baseball player but in his death he has

This fact is substantiated by the progressive disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. This progressive
neurodegenerative disease disrupts nerve cells ability to function (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). It is
considered a terminal disease because those diagnosed with the disease die normally within three to
four years. Nerve cells commonly referred to as motor neurons act as modes of communication that
convey signals to the concerning body part. These messages sent from the brain are the catalyst for all
the body s movement and functions. According to the ASL association, the brain integrates,
coordinates, and processes voluntary and involuntary actions (1). The brain works effectively to assure
that all processes are performed correctly. Oppositely, those afflicted with ASL are unable to
coordinate the body necessary components. This results in limited mobility which results in atrophy.
Lou Gehrig s disease primarily affects the older population. Scientists have no idea as to the
pathogenesis of the disease or why it occurs in the elderly. Some believe that it may be a random
mutation. However, not all professionals believe that the disease is a coincidence. Many theorize that
the disease may be caused by environmental factors that trigger gene variation. Additional theories
include chemical imbalance, disorganized immune response and protein mishandling. Regardless of

Hiring Police Officers Essay
Hiring Police Officers
Hiring police officers to perform private security work has positive aspects and potential pitfalls.
Business owners vary in their opinion on hiring police officers. Liability and cost are reasons some
prefer to hire private security guards or take other security measures. Other business owners prefer the
training, professionalism, deterrence, and authority that come with hiring a police officer. Due to
lawsuits involving off duty police officers, the Courts have had to develop tests to determine when a
moonlighting police officer is working under the authority of the private company or in the role of a
peace officer. Issues have arisen about the difference in police mentality and retail service. Some argue

I have known business to hire officers to control crowds at a bar or large events, provide plain clothes
surveillance or uniform presence in a shopping mall, escort a manager around to his different stores to
make cash pickups, and provide a presence and deterrence against theft and robbery.
For example, Hispanic grocery stores, particularly those that do checking cashing, carry lots of cash.
Nearly all Hispanics at the store I worked off duty at paid for purchases in cash. Before the owner
hired police officers, a gang of armed men robbed his store and several other Hispanic stores with in a
months time. They made off with an average about $20,000 from each robbery. The night of the
robbery, during the course of the initial investigation, the owner inquired about hiring a police officer
at night to provide security. The average rate at that time was $20 per hour. He wanted an officer from
6:00pm until he locked the store around 10:30pm. This security detail would be one officer in uniform
seven days a week. The annual cost of the security detail would be $33,600. If having a police officer
on site prevents two robberies a year, at $20,000 apiece, then the detail pays for itself. But how can
you determine the effectiveness of the program? Well, at one point after the armed gang was caught,
the owner thought about cutting back the

youth engaged, and 21,000 pounds of trash collected may not seem like much they are just examples
of the type s work that was done in 2014. (Healthy futures is a VISTA common core goal.)
(Conservation Legacy, 2014)
Measurements of Success:
The VISTA program is assessed based on several factors including the amount of money raised, the
number of communities served, the number of youth engaged in volunteerism programs, the number
of volunteer hours worked. These measurements of success are not tied directly to the goals of poverty
alleviation, however they are indicative of whether those issues are being addressed because VISTAs
are not able to do direct service, meaning that if money is not raised and volunteers do not show up the
projects will not move (Conservation Legacy, 2014). In 2007, the Office of Management and Budget
ran an assessment on the VISTA program based on the original purpose of the program and its design,
strategic planning, program management, and program results. The scale for the assessment was based
on 0 3 stars. The VISTA program received 1 star designating it as adequate. While the program was
successful in design and management, it underperformed in planning and results (U.S. Office of
Management and Budget and Federal agencies, 2006). Since a more recent study

Poetry Comparison Essay
Poetry Comparison There have been many wars throughout time. Most people learn the facts through:
papers, films, books or poems, but I am comparing two similar poems which have different meanings.
Wilfred Owen who wrote the poem Dulce et Decorum est or Lord Alfred Tennyson who wrote The
Charge of the Light Brigade . They are both based around the theme of war. Lord Alfred Tennyson is
pro war and thinks it s a good thing to die for your country. His poem was written to memorialise the
Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean war (1854 56) he wrote it ten years later, on: April 10th 1864. He

Situational Irony In Ransom Of Red Chief
What if someone told you that if you kidnap this child, a lot of money would be given to you? The
catch is: after you kidnap the child, that same person would tell you he has no money, so no ransom
would be paid. In O. Henry s Ransom of Red Chief , this is precisely what happened. Two kidnappers,
Sam, the narrator, and Bill Driscol, decide to kidnap the only child of Ebenezer Dorset, a money tight
wealthy man who is highly respected in the small town of Summit. How the ransom is paid; however,
is quite unexpected. O. Henry uses verbal and situational irony to design humor and advance the
theme of not everything is as it seems and taking shortcuts in life. Situation irony is when unexpected
action occur. This type of irony is used many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this was a realistic story, Ebenezer Dorset should have paid the kidnappers instead of the other way
around. As in the last paragraph, Dorset wrote, You bring Johnny home and pay me two hundred and
fifty dollars in cash, and I agree to take him off your hands. (Henry 591) What Dorset is implying is
that the kidnappers should pay the ransom to bring the child back. And the ironic and funny thing is;
they do! Sam and Bill are so fed up with Red Chief they pay Dorset to give him back, as it says on
page 593, Just at the moment when I should have been abstracting the fifteen hundred dollars from the
box under the tree, according to the original proposition, bill was counting out two hundred and fifty
dollars into Dorset s hand. (Henry 593) This is very amusing to the readers because the kidnappers are
paying the victim s father. It s like a baby sitter paying the parents of the child they just baby sat. This
irony also supports the theme of short cuts. Sam and Bill wanted to take a short cut by kidnapping to
get money, and at the end of it all, they lost even more money than they originally

grade. We are told that the standards were created to make sure that when the time comes for the
students to graduate from high school they will have all the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed
in not only college, but their career, and life regardless of where they are from. The Common Core
focuses most on developing the critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills students will
need to be successful. Those are all things that students all around the world need in order to move
forward, and continue to get their education. Having these standers make it easier for all the teachers
around the world to know where they need to have their students be by the end of each academic
school year, but what if there was a different way for our teachers to know where each child should
stand without having to use the common core standards? What if some children don t work well with
it? There are six standards that we work with day by day in the schools, these standards are: (1)

Essay on The Failure of the Spanish Armada
The Failure of the Spanish Armada The Armada could have succeeded the plan was simple and could
have been effective. The Spanish had the strongest army in Europe and the English defences were not
exactly good. The plan was very simple, but could have been deadly if it had worked. The main
reasons for it not working out were the communication problems. The messenger ships travelled the
same speed, as the Armada so they were nearly useless and the communication between Parma s army
and the Armada were not good. On top of all of this the Armada had received message that Parma s
army was not ready when they were at Calais, which caused a big problem for the Spanish.

When the English sent in their fireships the problems started, the Armada s formation had broken up
and the English were coming in for the attack. Luckily he managed to keep himself out of a fight. The
Armada was sailing in the wind and was going to be run aground, they couldn t turn round because
they were being followed by the English. The wind changed and they thought they were saved. During
this time the Duke s advisors all persuaded Medina to surrender to the English instead of running
aground. Medina Sidonia decided to wait and when the wind changed direction he decided that his
first priority was to the safe keeping of the Armada. The wind would have made it difficult to sail in
the Channel, on the other hand the way that he went he lost about 18 ships overnight, because of the
storms. By the time the last ship got back to Spain there were only 63 ships left. The English attack at
Calais did cause the Spanish to fail one of their orders, to keep in the crescent formation and it caused
them to fail there main objective... pick up Parma s Army. The army were nearly ready but the English
managed to get the Spanish out of the port and into sea using fireships that made the Spanish think
that we had hell burners, from here they started to start a huge battle and the army was unable to get
picked up because of this. Many sources say many different things about the English ships.

Competition in the Golf Industry
An Analysis of Competition in the Golf Industry
It is unknown when the game of golf originated, but it is believed that people began playing in Europe
during the middle ages. In the United States, golf was a sport primarily played by the wealthy
individuals until tournaments began being televised. Since then, golf has grown to be a very lucrative
industry with over 27 million golfers nationwide by the end of the 1990 s. Competition in the Golf
Equipment Industry, a case study written by John E. Gamble of the University of South Alabama, is an
overview of the problems currently facing major companies in the golf equipment industry:
technological limitations (due to golf s governing organizations), a decline in the number of golfers, ...

The state of the current economy paired with the decline in the number of golfers, has caused
companies to focus more on price and volume. Counterfeiting is largely attributable to the decisions
by executives to outsource for cheaper labor to manufacturers in China; who can produce a golf club
for less than $3 per club.
Recommendations
Companies currently operating within the golf industry, specifically Calloway Golf, must change their
current marketing approaches and strategies to withstand the recession and threats facing the industry.
Although Calloway has a strong R D department that tends to remain competitive with products and
technology, there have been little results in reference to scores. It is imperative that if companies are
going to market a product that will help golfers drive further and straighter that the results depict this
so that not to damage the brand name of a product. Secondly, due to the decline in equipment sales
and the number of golfers, prices are dropping and companies are outsourcing to maintain the volume
needed to remain competitive. Companies must be cautious and aware so that counterfeiting may be
reduced. This reduction would also allow companies to reduce their pricing and have more sales
without the competition of these cheaply priced knock offs. In the instance of

The Supreme Law Of The Land
The Executive Branch which carries out laws by the President of the United States, Vice President and
Cabinet, whereas the Legislative Branch is where the Congress makes the laws. With each branch
being able to change the acts of the other branches, this is only if a president vetoes a law that
Congress has passed or if the Justice of Supreme Courts overturns an unconstitutional law and if
Congress accepts (USA.gov). Even though the connection among Congress and the President of the
United States is far different then the Founders imagined set forth in the Constitution, for many reason
the presidency assumed more power than the legislative branch over time.
The Constitution in all its glory holds, as the supreme law of the land , in that it controls the limits of
power that the legislative and executive branches have (Arnold 4). Before the Constitution the
executive branch had no provisions to implement the laws and no national court system to translate
them (U.S. Department of State). Then with the Articles of Confederation and the period in between
the drafting of the Constitution in 1787, was the only national government, the legislation congress
(U.S. Department of State). As the executive branch being the biggest branch in the federal
government it also seen as the most powerful as the President of the United States is at the head
(Arnold 13). Since the President of the United States governs the executive branch, article II states the

HOME AREA NETWORK
A Home Area Network is an interconnection in which some networking devices are connected with
each other for sharing resources between them with the help of internet. The main advantage of Home
Area Network is that you can share different type of content i.e. videos, audios etc. among different
users. A computer with large storage memory can be used as server which can be easily accessed by
the clients and users can easily access the data whenever they wanted to access. As in Home Area
Network everything i.e. Resources, Data, Information etc. is shared so each user can use devices like
Printers, Scanners which will be very cheap. Also another main advantage of Home Area Network is
that there is no need to buy several different Public IP Address s for different devices, administrator of
network can only have single Public IP Address and assign this public IP address to a modem or a
router, while a modem or a router in turn assigns a private IP address to each device to access the
internet.
Many people are turning to their home computers for both work and entertainment. Some companies

forms a broken circle affectionately referred to by the designer as the circle of life with a rifle tip
buried in the ground with a helmet resting on the butt of the gun. The monument is also covered in
583 inscribed names of soldiers who were killed in action during the Korean War. Visitors will see a
large map of Korea located on the ground of the Memorial. The map is divided into two parts by the
Circle of Life element. The Demilitarized Zone shown on the map is what influenced the placing of
the circle. The designer, Shawn Raymond Bliss designed the schematics of the piece in 1999. Bliss

The Spanish Colonization Of Latin America
Because the Indians and Spanish lived in different areas in Latin America, the Indian culture and
society did not change significantly. Or did there society change? The Spanish colonizers had a huge
influence on the indigenous peoples of Mexico and Peru s, culture, language, traditions, religion, even
on their native food. One can say that this came into being shortly after Columbus discovered the New
World. The Spanish conquistadors, who sailed with Columbus to the New World, were the first to
leave their mark on the new territory. We still see some of these traditions in today s society. The
Spanish taught the Indians of their oral traditions of legends and jokes, music, food, beliefs, and
customs. The Indians even picked up on their native tongue, Spanish, and used it as their own and still
do to this day. There are many things in the Mexican culture which have contributed to the shaping
and molding of the modern Latino society, such as the Mexican history, culture, language, religion,
and traditions.
The Indigenous culture is not simply a blend of Mexico used to be, but the results of a unique
historical process that developed with an originality all its own. This culture was divided into many
different social classes after the Spanish took the reins. Like they started to develop a governmental
system for the Indigenous people and they started to tax them with the Bourbon Reforms. Many
Indigenous people hated the thought of this so they took matters in to their own

statements Nothing is what you think it is is being described by many situations to describe that
nothing really is what we probably think it is.These statements are all provided in this book to
eventually persuade readers on how to change their lives. The situations being used come from those
studying at Stanford University and whom are participating in the design thinking. Due to the use of
design thinking, society, and personal experiences Roth s statement Nothing is what you think it is

By using design thinking, society, and personal experiences Roth s statement Nothing is what you
think it is fails. Roth says, To forge a new attitude toward the events and relationship in your life you
must learn to look at them with a fresh perspective. When making Roth s statement false, people
shouldn t have to look at things at different perspective everything is just what people think it is. In
another piece of writing, Dispersed Collectivities: Rumors Gossip an another describes different types
of gossip and rumors. Rumors go against Roth s statement because people seem to believe rumors.
When people believe rumors everything is obviously what it seems. Individuals who take a critical set
or stance are able to separate truth from falsehood. So when people do not look at things from a
different perspective they just believe what they hear. Rumors are one of the things that people just
believe. This counteracts Roth s statement because there are people that believe that everything is

Machiavelli s The Prince And Socrates
On the heels of the Peloponnesian war, Socrates was blamed for corrupting the youth and
disrespecting the Athenian gods and Athenian values. His defense or Apology and reaction after he
was sentenced to death in Crito demonstrate his most basic philosophy and ideals of what a
government should truly be like. Yet in a vastly different situation, Machiavelli, who lived during the
renaissance of Italy experienced constant shifts of power which he wrote his book, The Prince .
Machiavelli writes about how a leader or prince should conduct himself in order to keep and
efficiently run a republic or principality. Although Socrates texts on the surface deal with his
accusations, the texts give great insight as to how he thinks a government ... Show more content on

18). A true prince in Machiavelli s eyes is someone that the nobles, people, army, and neighboring
states will be dependent on. To Machiavelli humans are by nature power hungry and greedy and that
as long as there is dependence on the prince whether it is due to heredity, fear, or a variety of other
factors, he will remain in power.
Socrates would view Machiavelli s concept of a prince as ignorant and built upon falsehoods as seen
through Machiavelli s explanations of holding new principalities. From the very start of The Prince
Machiavelli explains that hereditary principalities are always easier to rule, because of the fact that it
is sufficient only for the prince to maintain the customs of those who ruled before him (Machiavelli,
Ch. 2). In contrast Socrates in the Apology passionately fights against the status quo. He likens
himself to that as a gadfly of the Athenian state stinging the large horse great and noble steed who is
tardy in his motions owing to his very size, and requires to be stirred into life (Apology, 30e). Socrates
finds that a leader who grows content and maintains customs as those before him is foolish as he does
not think for himself. A truly enlightened prince would question and challenge everything that comes
his way. An enlightened prince would

Food Bank And Moral Model Analysis
Being able to acknowledge the one in need of help, really can make a difference. There are many ways
of helping through the small deeds, but also through the greater ones, such as food banks. The two
models discussed in class covered a moral model, in which help is based off of a personal
characteristic (Collver: September 20, 2017). And the other is the charity model in which it is the
practice of help emerging from the notions of mortality (attitudes and beliefs about the right and
wrong) (Collver: September 20, 2017). Both models are influenced by a moral discourse of
deservingness. Within the learnings in class and through discussions in tutorials, I can reflect that the
notion of helping through food banks or from any form of help in that matter, is not always wanted.
Some individuals refuse to accept the help they receive because they believe that others think of them
as weak . There is often pity associated with wanting to help. However, there are also people who take
food banks for granted because they are getting free food and not making an effort to change or find
ways to get them out of that state. Food banks put a lot of effort in meeting the standards of ... Show

The Soviets Fault For Causing The Cold War Essay
There are several who have a different approach of whether it s the U.S or the Soviets fault for causing
the Cold War. In reality, they have always had clashing ideologies and different structures of
government that have played a major role in leading them to embark upon such a distrustful
relationship. Furthermore, the Soviets distrusted the U.S way before WWII when they intervened in
the Russian Civil War and didn t recognize the Soviet Union until 1933. As a result, during and after
WWII, the Soviets were determined to dominate European countries with their own political agenda to
become the hegemonic power and believed the U.S. had the same motive. However, the U.S was more
eager on protecting these Eastern countries from communist influence and sustaining stability
throughout these regions. Despite the U.S s effort to come to a mutual agreement with the Soviets
after the war at the Yalta Conference, tension has gradually progressed throughout the years that led to
an even further separation between the two leading powers (Doc H). In addition to, the Soviets
disregarded the compromises made at the Yalta Conference to have free and fair elections in Europe,
instead creating a buffer in Eastern Europe, settling Soviet satellites. By committing such actions, the
U.S automatically became suspicious and concluded that the Soviets were ultimately compelled to
spread communism. The U.S further distrusted the Soviets when they secretly signed the

Voting Behavior Essay
Less than 50% of eligible voters will turn out to vote at national elections, and at the local elections
there are less than 25%. There is a correlation between voting behavior and the demographic of those
voting.
Typically, people ages 30 to 65 have been the most likely to vote in the past years. This is in great
cause due to this age group being the most politically active. People in this group are more likely to
have established homes, steady jobs, and part of the community. They have stronger incentives to be
involved in what can affect their lives.
Younger people ages 18 24 have been less likely to vote in the past due to lack of interest, money, or
time to go. Also, they just had a lack of information so they just didn t care to have ... Show more

Women have exceeded the turnout rate of men in presidential elections since 1986. They believe that
this is due to the prominence of issues important to women, such as abortion, education, and child
welfare.
When it comes to race we have come a long way for voting rights. Since the voting barriers have been
eliminated the African American citizens vote at least as often as white citizens with the same
economic status. African Americans are more involved in politics than other minorities in the US and
have the highest level of voter registration and participation. The Latinos only average about 49% of
eligible voters to vote. One of the big problems for them is the language barrier, but with the Latino
population increasing there is a rise of Spanish campaigning being done alongside the English.
Religion is a big motivator for whether or not people are voting. When there are big issues on trial that
go against your beliefs there is a greater desire for you to voice your opinions and be heard. Voters that
identify with Christian rights have a higher turnout rate and vote more frequently since there is almost
always a religious issue up for

The Creation of Federal Laws in Australia
The Creation of Federal Laws in Australia The Commonwealth of Australia was created with the 1901
unification of six recently independent British colonies. All were solidified under the authorship of a
Constitution that same year which predicated the form of government and the legal orientation of the
new nation. (AG, p. 1) In doing so, it also vested the power to create federal laws in Australian
Parliament and, in one sense, gave it exclusive authority to do so. And in this sense, one might render
the interpretation that one advantage Australia has is that it has a written constitution which gives
nearly all the power to make laws for Australia to the Commonwealth Parliament. However, a more
complete understanding of the structure of Australian law suggests that this is a great understatement
and one which does not make full accounting for the roles played either by the states that are
confederated to make up Australia or by the judicial branch of the federal government. A consideration
of the roles played by Parliament, the states and the court systems reveals that in fact, while the power
to legislate laws is entrusted in Australian parliament, this entitlement is only possible through an
interdependence with these other dimensions of the government. First, it is appropriate to examine the
conditions that will have allowed for one to make the blanket statement quoted here above. Namely,
the Australian Government (AG)(2011) documents that Section 51 of the

Unmanned Aircraft Systems ( Uas )
Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) have become a quickly growing part of the aviation community
over the last five to ten years. More and more of these aircraft are flying in the National Airspace
System (NAS) with each passing year, without any set rules governing their operation. With the
growing population of UAS in the NAS, for military, civil, and commercial use, the need for
regulation is becoming increasingly obvious. How to regulate this type of aircraft is no simple task.
Taking into consideration the many factors of these aircraft such as size, purpose, who is using them,
and location of use, it is difficult to determine what regulation is required. That is the task that has
been set before the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). To determine what type of regulation is
needed to integrate and ensure the safe operation of UAS in the NAS since the skies that they share
are shared with manned aircraft. Integration of UAS into the NAS
Since the first flight of Orville and Wilbur Wright s aircraft at Kitty Hawk, the development of new
aircraft types and technology in these and existing aircraft has moved along at a quick and steady
pace. Moreover, since 1903, aircraft limits continually have been pushed and surpassed. Aircraft now
fly higher, faster, farther and carry more cargo or passengers than ever before. Nevertheless, it would
only seem logical the next step in aviation evolution is removal of the human factor in flight.

  • 2. Informal Fallacies Of An Informal Fallacy Our lives revolve around money. The value of a dollar does not buy much anymore; everything comes with a price tag. The media likes to entice people with catchy slogans, celebrities or any other setup just so they can obtain our money. Once they grasp our attention we realize most of these attention grabbers had no relation to their argument or what they are trying to sell. Thus the correct term for the types of misleading ads and television commercials is called informal fallacies. The purpose of an informal fallacy can be to enact reactions from the audience, used to discredit a person or lastly appeal to a certain outlook. They mainly lack the validity in order to prove their argument. The media provides us with many scenarios using different forms of informal fallacies. I will provide three notable examples of informal fallacies by explaining the type of fallacy and why the media used this fallacy. To start off, I should first differentiate between a formal and informal fallacy. A formal argument is when the argument lacks the correct structural form. The form of the fallacy will then be able to tell us if the fallacy is valid or invalid. The difference is in the way the argument is written, informal fallacies lack context in order to make the argument. For example, I came across a nationwide commercial that took a different approach in order to sell to the public. Rather than sell to their audience some reasons why they should chose to consult with the company they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of 24-Hour Psycho Clearly heavily influenced by Douglas Gordon s 24 Hour Psycho, Don DeLillo decidedly creates a somewhat parallel universe in which Jim Finley, the protagonist of Point Omega partakes in voyeuristic acts and shares many odd similarities with 24 Hour Psycho s Norman Bates that illustrate Finley as a clone of Bates, allowing the reader (and watcher) to understand both personas from a more understanding perspective. The novella Point Omega immediately alludes to 24 Hour Psycho as the epilogue presents a scene in which an anonymous voice we later confirm as Finley, explains his ongoing thoughts and experience with the film playing in the background. We are able to observe DeLillo s interest in 24 Hour Psycho which translates then into his character Finley, who displays his captivation with the film through his own film. Finley is an aspiring filmmaker who seeks out Richard Elster, a retired strategist during the Iraq War to star in his upcoming film project. During his time spent learning about Elster s past, he stays with Elster in an under furnished house in the middle of the desert, one with a scarcity of clocks or other time telling machines so that his time spent there is literally immeasurable. And even within his own film, Finley allocates a lot of freedom for the duration of his film. Once Elster begins sharing his experiences regarding the war and life as a whole, Finley then turns his concern, or lack thereof, to the film s running time because to him, it could be ... According to an Intel White Paper of December 2009, Intel reported these studies about reduction of energy usage in offices. Evaluating Enabling Technologies Replacing Desktop PCs and Cathode Ray Tube Monitors: Over the last decade companies have shifted to laptop PCs for about 83 percent of the workforce, primarily, in an effort to increase employee productivity. A secondary benefit has been to significantly improve energy efficiency. Intel s studies have shown that raising employees awareness of how much power their equipment is consuming, and getting them involved in reducing that amount, is critical to success in reducing energy use in the office environment. We have taken an example of the Intel Company: Intel conducted a small PoC that explored how they could encourage behavior modification by showing employees that small things, such as using standby mode on their laptops or turning off a printer when it s not being used, can add up to big savings. During this PoC, they first established a baseline of energy consumption through real time metering of energy use in 12 cubicles. In one group, they focused solely on awareness and education. Every two to three days, Intel provided this group with information on how much energy they were using, and how much it cost. They did not provide any other information or requests to change behavior to the members of this group. For the second group they installed a third party software agent that deployed and enforced power management profiles. The profiles were set up to put the monitor into standby after ten minutes of idle time, and to put the PC into standby after 30 minutes of idle time. After two additional weeks of real time metering, Intel examined the energy use of the two groups. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Negative Effects of Twilight The vampire craze has taken over what young teenagers today indulge themselves in regards to reading material. But has this new fad had a negative effect on teens? Some of theses books (for example the Twilight series written by Stephanie Meyer) have portrayed an example for teenagers and even adults that should be more closely examined. A hundred years ago, books for kids were dominated with stories about boys having adventures and girls finding husbands; then, from the 1950s to the 1970s, the themes were emerging sexuality and parental conflict. The current age of young adult literature contains a large chunk of stories of teenage girls falling in love with the supernatural. Multiple books about girls getting into relationships with vampires and werewolves have risen in the past 10 years. Maria Nikolajeva, a Cambridge University professor of literature stated that We don t know exactly how literature affects the brain, but we know that it does; some new findings have identified spots in the brain that respond to literature and art. (Live Science) Knowing that literature affects the brain and how it develops, we should be cautious as to what we are giving to the younger generation to read. The youth of today are being overwhelmed with multiple messages on what to look for in a partner, and what constitutes as a normal relationship (Chang). If you use Twilight as an example for these messages that are being broadcasted, it is clear to see that the examples that have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Innocence of Daisy Miller Essay In 1878, Henry James wrote, Daisy Miller, a novella about a young American girl and her travels in Europe. Daisy Miller is a complex short story with many underlying themes such as appearance versus reality, knowledge versus innocence, outward action versus inward meditation, and Nature versus urbanity. In this short story, one is left to judge whether Daisy Miller, the main character of the story, is a pretty American flirt or a misunderstood, modern young woman. By probing into the complexities and contradictions of Daisy s character, it is obvious that Ms. Miller is merely a misunderstood young woman. Through his novel, Henry James shows his readers that the gap between what people believe to be true and the actual truth can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He decides a pretty American flirt would be acceptable for him to know. Mainly he wants an excuse to spend time with her. His desire for her to be innocent and undesigning reflects not only on her true personality but also on his lust for her. Mrs. Costello s character symbolizes old money and culture, even though she is American, and thus sets up a stark contrast to Daisy Miller, a character devoid of much ritual or formality. Mrs. Costello had lived much of her life in Europe and had kept a society so intentionally exclusive in America that she has separated herself from any of the qualities associated with the innocence and natural spontaneity of an American. She believes the Miller s to be common and tells Winterbourne to stay away from them. However, Daisy represents to Winterbourne what he lacks, standing as a metaphor of what all of Europe lacks, as long as Daisy does not go too far with her social freedom. Winterbourne is largely blinded to the honesty and innocence that Daisy imparts because he has trouble recognizing a manner that has become foreign to him. Thus when Daisy walks calmly along with both Giovanelli and Winterbourne in the Pincio and does not seem anxious to get rid of Winterbourne, Winterbourne is perplexed (36 37). He does not realize that she does not know better and she will ruin herself because of it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The source comes directly from Halifax, referencing key issues that came as consequences of the explosion. This article is aimed towards other Canadian citizens, as the Halifax Herald was a local newspaper (Now called the Chronicle Herald , a newspaper that covers all of Nova Scotia), looking to simply spread information to citizens of Halifax and discuss the destruction that ensued two days prior. • 11. Style Analysis of Amy Tan in The Joy Luck Club Raymond Chandler, a fiction writer, once said, The most durable thing in writing is style. True, the style is often defined as one of the most important elements in writing. In Amy Tan s novel, The Joy Luck Club , the style significantly contributes to the development of both the tone and the theme of the influences that a mother can have on her daughter. The author effectively portrays the somber tone and the theme by using a concise style of diction, images, details, language, sentence structure, point of view, and organization. The author emphasizes the tone and the theme of the novel by using a variety of diction words that include repetition of words, archaic words, connotation, and abstract diction. Primarily, the usage of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the night, Lena hears shouts across the wall and also whack! whack! whack! , the sounds of killing (Tan 114). The sight and sound imageries seem to indicate a lachrymose tone in Lena s house. In general, these imageries provide a picture of melancholy, which achieves a somber tone of the novel. Furthermore, the author explores the tone of the novel by providing specific details. In An mei s childhood story, the author chooses to describe the pain An mei feels as the soup pours over her by providing details of the twinge. She describes it as the kind of pain [specially] terrible that a little child should never remember it and how it still remains in [An mei s] skin s memory (Tan 39). By depicting these details of the pain, Tan expresses the feeling of misery An mei feels, which appends to the melancholy tone. Additionally, in the story of Ying ying s first marriage, the author presents explicit details of the emptiness Ying ying feels by portraying details of her as a tiger that neither pounce[s] nor lay[s] waiting between the trees and an unseen spirit (Tan 285). This emptiness Ying ying feels seems to indicate the melancholy tone that appears noticeable in the novel. Clearly, the details Amy Tan chooses to describe in the novel seem to specify the somber tone. Likewise, the language the author uses also clarifies the tone and the theme of the novel. In many positions in the novel, languages such as grief, despair, hate, and revenge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arrival at the crime scene and drawing theories from the scene would be the initial step of deductive analysis. Forming a hypothesis from theories drawn at the scenes would follow. The hypothesis here is; there are many aspects of this crime and unknown suspects that are obvious such as the sophistication of the attacks and the fact that the young children were spared, this alone aligns with criminals who are experienced and have a clear method of what they do. Observation of the multiple crime scenes and the way in which the family was killed leads to, this act of violence against this family showing as being business related and not personal. This is based on the fact that the victims were shot execution style while sleeping in their beds (Valencia, 2017). It is possible the marijuana grow operations are connected in some way to the killings. For example, he held a record for the most career grand slams; this record stood for 75 years but was matched in 2013 by another talented player. Seemingly, Mr. Gehrig s career was on the fast track to success; however, in 1939 he was diagnosed with a horrible affliction that immediately ended his career. Mr. Gehrig was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis when he was 36. Sadly, within two years he had succumbed to the disease. This fact is substantiated by the progressive disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. This progressive neurodegenerative disease disrupts nerve cells ability to function (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). It is considered a terminal disease because those diagnosed with the disease die normally within three to four years. Nerve cells commonly referred to as motor neurons act as modes of communication that convey signals to the concerning body part. These messages sent from the brain are the catalyst for all the body s movement and functions. According to the ASL association, the brain integrates, coordinates, and processes voluntary and involuntary actions (1). The brain works effectively to assure that all processes are performed correctly. Oppositely, those afflicted with ASL are unable to coordinate the body necessary components. This results in limited mobility which results in atrophy. Lou Gehrig s disease primarily affects the older population. Scientists have no idea as to the pathogenesis of the disease or why it occurs in the elderly. Some believe that it may be a random mutation. However, not all professionals believe that the disease is a coincidence. Many theorize that the disease may be caused by environmental factors that trigger gene variation. Additional theories include chemical imbalance, disorganized immune response and protein mishandling. Regardless of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Business owners vary in their opinion on hiring police officers. Liability and cost are reasons some prefer to hire private security guards or take other security measures. Other business owners prefer the training, professionalism, deterrence, and authority that come with hiring a police officer. Before the owner hired police officers, a gang of armed men robbed his store and several other Hispanic stores with in a months time. They made off with an average about $20,000 from each robbery. The night of the robbery, during the course of the initial investigation, the owner inquired about hiring a police officer at night to provide security. The average rate at that time was $20 per hour. He wanted an officer from 6:00pm until he locked the store around 10:30pm. This security detail would be one officer in uniform seven days a week. The annual cost of the security detail would be $33,600. If having a police officer on site prevents two robberies a year, at $20,000 apiece, then the detail pays for itself. But how can you determine the effectiveness of the program? Well, at one point after the armed gang was caught, the owner thought about cutting back the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These learning goals outline what a student should know and be able to do at the end of each grade. We are told that the standards were created to make sure that when the time comes for the students to graduate from high school they will have all the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in not only college, but their career, and life regardless of where they are from. The Common Core focuses most on developing the critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills students will need to be successful. Socrates would view Machiavelli s concept of a prince as ignorant and built upon falsehoods as seen through Machiavelli s explanations of holding new principalities. From the very start of The Prince Machiavelli explains that hereditary principalities are always easier to rule, because of the fact that it is sufficient only for the prince to maintain the customs of those who ruled before him (Machiavelli, Ch. 2). In contrast Socrates in the Apology passionately fights against the status quo. Furthermore, the Soviets distrusted the U.S way before WWII when they intervened in the Russian Civil War and didn t recognize the Soviet Union until 1933. Despite the U.S s effort to come to a mutual agreement with the Soviets after the war at the Yalta Conference, tension has gradually progressed throughout the years that led to an even further separation between the two leading powers (Doc H). The Creation of Federal Laws in Australia The Creation of Federal Laws in Australia The Commonwealth of Australia was created with the 1901 unification of six recently independent British colonies. All were solidified under the authorship of a Constitution that same year which predicated the form of government and the legal orientation of the new nation. (AG, p. 1) In doing so, it also vested the power to create federal laws in Australian Parliament and, in one sense, gave it exclusive authority to do so. And in this sense, one might render the interpretation that one advantage Australia has is that it has a written constitution which gives nearly all the power to make laws for Australia to the Commonwealth Parliament. However, a more complete understanding of the structure of Australian law suggests that this is a great understatement and one which does not make full accounting for the roles played either by the states that are confederated to make up Australia or by the judicial branch of the federal government. A consideration of the roles played by Parliament, the states and the court systems reveals that in fact, while the power to legislate laws is entrusted in Australian parliament, this entitlement is only possible through an interdependence with these other dimensions of the government. First, it is appropriate to examine the conditions that will have allowed for one to make the blanket statement quoted here above. Namely, the Australian Government (AG)(2011) documents that Section 51 of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Unmanned Aircraft Systems ( Uas ) Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) have become a quickly growing part of the aviation community over the last five to ten years. More and more of these aircraft are flying in the National Airspace System (NAS) with each passing year, without any set rules governing their operation. With the growing population of UAS in the NAS, for military, civil, and commercial use, the need for regulation is becoming increasingly obvious. How to regulate this type of aircraft is no simple task. Taking into consideration the many factors of these aircraft such as size, purpose, who is using them, and location of use, it is difficult to determine what regulation is required. That is the task that has been set before the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). To determine what type of regulation is needed to integrate and ensure the safe operation of UAS in the NAS since the skies that they share are shared with manned aircraft. Integration of UAS into the NAS Since the first flight of Orville and Wilbur Wright s aircraft at Kitty Hawk, the development of new aircraft types and technology in these and existing aircraft has moved along at a quick and steady pace. Moreover, since 1903, aircraft limits continually have been pushed and surpassed. Aircraft now fly higher, faster, farther and carry more cargo or passengers than ever before. Nevertheless, it would only seem logical the next step in aviation evolution is removal of the human factor in flight. Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
