2. John James Audubon
John James was one of the first few people to try
and paint birds that he would encounter. Unlike the
true first bird painter, he had many paintings of birds
in his collection. He was born the son of a French
sea captain, and at the age of 18 he was sent to
America.
3. In America
In America John James soon got interested
in drawing, studying and hunting birds.
Soon after he went to America he met his
wife Lucy. After this he continued to study
birds, and he soon started painting pictures
of the birds.

He painted lots of pictures of many different birds but here are just a
few to show. He traveled all over the world and studied lots of
different birds. He also went on to make a book Birds of America.

Washington Irving
“Washington Irving was the first
American-born best-selling author who was
able to make a living from his published
work. However, since U.S. copyright law at
the time didn't protect writers from piracy,
much of Irving's work was written and
published while he lived in Europe. His 1809
book "History of New York," written under the
pen-name "Diedrich Knickerbocker," was his
first popular work, but he is perhaps best
known for his short stories.”

Robert S. Ducanson was an artist that was
part of the group called Hudson River
School. He was an African American artist,
he painted landscapes of the Hudson River.

Robert S. Ducanson was born sometime in 1821 and died
december 21 1872. In the span of his life he went on to
make a lot of paintings, and even be part of a group in a

1882. He had 2 sisters and had 5 brothers. He had 2
sons and 2 daughters. His wife was Lidian Jackson
Emerson. His mother was Ruth Haskin and his
father was William Emerson.
