In the 19th century, architecture saw revivals of historic styles like Gothic and Romanesque. Eclectic designs combined multiple styles. New materials like iron and glass allowed for structures like the Crystal Palace. Art Nouveau emerged as an organic style. In painting, Romanticism featured emotional works by Géricault, Delacroix, and Friedrich. Realism depicted everyday scenes by artists like Millet and Courbet. Impressionism developed as well. Sculpture in the academic style was taught in the École des Beaux-Arts.
