Aristotle s Views Of Poetry Essay
Socratic moral philosophy is important in poetry because it engages poets in rational thinking when
making poems. Poetry is mostly communicated through written texts; it can be used to expand one
s knowledge of himself or herself and the world. However, philosophers disparage poetry by its
composition and senses such as imitation, representation, fiction, and expression. On this note,
Socratesused philosophical explorations to criticize the role of poetryin the world. Many poets
engage in imitation and imagination in their poetic works, which limits the chances of poetry
enhancing knowledge in the society. The branch points between poets and Socrates are imitation
versus and imagination versus reason.
Socrates was an influential Greek philosopher; however, he never wrote any book and his
ideologies are mostly presented by Plato, who was his student. Plato explains Socrates attitude
towards poetry in his books, the Republic and the Symposium. Afterward, he offers his perceptions
and solutions to the matter. Plato s Republic explains Socrates mindset towards poetry censorship.
Socrates argued that poetry lacked wisdom because there was no censorship of works of poetry. As
a result, poets can write about anything they wish to inscribe, which enhances imitation. On this
note, Socrates argued that poetry exposed citizens to different forms of imitation, which would
corrupt their minds because they had no restrictions.
On the other hand, Plato offers a solution towards the

Summary Of Hypocrite Of Women By Denise Levertov
Hypocrite of Women, by Denise Levertov seems to contain a deep message within its playful
wording. The basic meaning that I was able to pull from within this was that as women we are
hypocrites, because we will shun others within society for what we consider to be inappropriate
behavior, or below the standards of society, however when it comes down to our own personal
faults within our characters, we tend to overlook them or ignore them. This is a fascinating
poem because I feel like it does reflect how society was as well as is today. In The Ache of
Marriage, I was able to discern that Denise Levertov s goal was to explore the pain of an
unwanted marriage. The pain that she reflects within her writing seems to be of both an emotional
and a physical basis. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She seems to be saying that without the pain and the tribulations, a marriage wouldn t be worth
as much. It s almost like she says that the sacrifices are what makes the marriage worth it. The
pain of this marriage results in the ultimate achievement of the objective of marriage. The poem
states that all the aches and pains of marriage are worth going through because the love of
another is epic. I found that the two of these poems together were a fascinating combination,
because one speaks of the hypocrisy of not doing anything about the flaws in a person s own
characteristics, and the other seems to say to live with the pain that you have to live with the
faults; through doing so one will find bliss; it is worth the sacrifice. I like the fact that they seem
to contradict one another because as people in general we tend to contradict ourselves. As a
reader I was able to connect to both of these particular poems by Denise Levertov, because I was
able to see how in my own life where I might have judged another for some preconceived idea that
society laid before me, yet not think twice about what I

Scorecard System Essay
When an organization implements any management control tool, the cost/benefit balance is vital.
The decision to deploy a scorecard system requires the same analysis. The costs of implementing a
new tool are relatively easy to appraise, but often, there s a lack of reliable information about the
benefits. This article explores the extent to which organizations have realized significant benefits
from using a scorecardsystem. (We use the term quot;scorecard system quot; to include both the
scorecard as a control tooland the process, or technique, of integrating the scorecard system into the
overall performance achievement cycle of the firm.)
Over 150 service, manufacturing, and government organizations have responded to an on line ...

A related observation is that employees in the SBG both accepted the scorecard system and used it
as an effective management control tool, whereas there was only minimal acceptance and use in
the NSBG. Often, the benefits of a scorecard system are soft ones, but organizations in our survey
also reported documented benefits such as a reduction in overheads of 25% in three years and
quot;significant improvement in employee satisfaction and the highest sales and profit ever. quot;
This result isn t unexpected: if communicating strategy and aligning employee behaviour with
strategy aren t top priorities of a scorecard system, employees won t see value in using the system.
Compensation links
Employees value what s measured but too often what s measured isn t of value to the organization.
The study reveals a much stronger link between measures appearing on the scorecards and the
compensation and reward system for the SBG than for the NSBG. As one company noted,
quot;Employees throughout the organization have become more aware of business plan goals and
objectives and strive for higher performance quot; due to scorecard implementation. Another
company noted that the system resulted in a significant improvement in employee satisfaction. As
almost all agree, measures motivate one way or another.
While we recommend that you link scorecard measures to compensation and rewards, you should
also exercise care in doing so. Taking a year or

What Is An Example Of Prescriptive Regulation
A prescriptive regulation is where the regulating authority defines explicitly how a task is to be
undertaken. It informs exactly what is to be done and it needs the industries to demonstrate that
they have strictly adhered to the prescribed steps.
A goal setting regulation on the other hand keeps the end goal or objective in mind and leaves the
method used to achieve that to the industries. Here, the industries have the freedom to arrive at the
goal using any way they see fit, as long as they demonstrate that the end goal has been reached.
To clearly see the difference between these two contrasting regulations, we can look at some
examples of each
Examples of prescriptive regulation
Footings for masonry chimneys shall be constructed of concrete or solid masonry at least 12
inches (305mm) thick and shall extend at least 6 inches (152mm) beyond the face of the
foundation or support wall on all sides. Footings shall be founded on natural undisturbed earth or
engineered fill below frost depth. In areas not subject to freezing, footings shall be at least 12
inches (305mm) below finished grade 1
Thru bolts shall have a diameter of 12 . Pilot holes for thru bolts shall be 1732 to 916 in diameter.
Thru bolts require washers at the bolt head and nut. 2
Here, we can see that the regulations clearly states how the footings for chimneys should be built in
the first case and the diameter of thru bolts in the latter. Anything apart from this specification will

Analysis Of The Grumbling Hive, By Bernard Mandeville
The renowned economist Milton Friedman once said, Innovation comes from self interest, not
government agencies. This idea, seen as controversial and offensive to many, is at the core of
Bernard Mandeville s argument in his poem, The Grumbling Hive: or, Knaves turn d Honest. The
poem compares the working of society to a busy hive. The hive is flourishing until suddenly the
bees become honest and righteous leading them to live simple lives without a thrive community.
Through this analogy, Mandeville argues that pursuit of private vices generates public
improvements and economic prosperity, meaning, individuals tendencies to pursue their own vices,
such as lust and greed to innovationfor society as a whole. This is demonstrated through the benefits
of marijuana legalization.
Mandeville addresses many aspects of degeneracy and selfishness within private life, highlighting
vice as an intrinsic and unavoidable part of . Vice, by Mandeville s standards, is an action that
fulfills the individual in some respect but is immoral, selfish, and unfair. The seven deadly sins
provide a framework for behavior that would be considered detrimental and self regarding.
Mandeville, in the poem, provides examples of such actions within all echelons of society.
Mandeville writes, Physicians valu d Fame and Wealth/ Above the dropping Patient s Health (71
72). As example of greed, medical professionals pursuit of capital gain and social stature are the
driving factor in treating patients rather than an altruistic desire to aid humanity. Again,
Mandeville displays occurrences of vice within society by demonstrating instances of individual s
pursuit of wealth at the expense of others, Their Kings were serv d, but Knavishly,/ Cheated by
their own Ministry;/ ...Robbing the very Crown they saved (113 117). The King s own advisors
and officials steal from him, greedily pursuing their own self interests over that of the Kingdom.
Mandaville is a realist in the sense that he acknowledges humanities inherent drive to serve oneself
before others and engage in immoral and corrupt behavior. He addresses greed and dishonesty in
private life without hesitation or resentment. It is this self pursuit that Mandeville argues actually

Human Resources Are Responsible For Making And Driving...
1.1
A number of Human Resources objectives support organisational goals, such as profitability,
business reputation, ethics and principles according to Mayhew, R. (2014).
Human Resources are responsible for making and driving decisions to assist with the strategy of
their organisation. Each individual organisation will have their own mission and vision statements
which will outline the short term and long term objectives of the organisation and HR are
responsible for helping to successfully reach those goals.
Managing change and implementing new ideas, methods and strategies are responsibilities of the
HR Function. Forward thinking is vitally important to a successful organisation and HR will

Within this era of the HR Function it would have been common practice for HR to handle
recruitment, training and to deal with trade unions.
Resources is a term used to describe the HR function towards the end of the 20th century as more
focus was given to non monetary factors for workers rather than wages as motivators to increase
productivity. There was also more focus on training and development and upskilling to get the
most out the workforce. This would play as a motivator to the employee and would be a cost
saving exercise for the business also.
Valuable Assets is a term used to describe the current HR Function due to the added responsibility
and power the function now has in addition to the Resources term of the HR Function. This is
based partly on the advancement of technology and globalisation. The current HR Function also
specialise in fostering a culture in organisations and shaping strategies to assist organisations in
reaching their mission and vision statements.
At the end of the 19th century) This was mostly women campaigning for better working conditions
for other women and girls in industrial working places.
(During the First World War)This was in agreement with the Trade Unions and at times led to very
bitter disputes. After The First Word War, workers rights and formal rights emerged. These rights
emerged to help solve problems, develop scientific knowledge and deal with ethical issues
according to Duggan, T. (2014).

Comparing Democracy Gaps And Participation
The actual aim of this study is regarding comparing democracy gaps and participation between Arab
Muslim countries and non Arab Muslim countries. The authors explain that the sixteen Arab
countries in the world are not democratic and have the lowest rates of Gross
Domestic Product per capita (GDPpc) concerning competitive elections. The authors continue in
their arguments and study stating that thirty one countries which are Muslim, but non Arab in
contrast have much higher rates of GDPpc in competitive elections.
The authors are trying to examine what makes such differences in these two different categories of
countries. The authors begin their thorough examination studying from the years from 1972 to
2000. The authors start contrasting countries that are Arab Muslim and non Arab Muslim, and the
authors study regarding electoral competitiveness found that religions other than Islam dominate.
The second stage is by qualitative, which is measuring more by quality than by quantity, it
concentrated more on evaluating all the forty seven Muslim dominant states and seeing which met
the standard to be labeled as an electoral competitive state. The authors then move to the third and
last stage of their examination, which they emphasize on the five main theoretical and political
suggestions that the prior two stages declare.
The authors studies are not based on legitimate democratic countries, but on two standards, first, the
countries that had reasonable fair

What Is Hooverville Like In The 1930s
Hoovervilles
The 1930 s was a difficult time period for Americans. The Great Depression was in full swing,
and a fourth of Americans were out of work. The entire United States was in a huge economic
depression, hence the name the Great Depression. In New York City Hoovervilles were all over the
place. Kids were wearing chicken feed bags for clothes. Everybody was at their lowest.
Herbert Hoover was the president in office when the stock market crashed on October 29, 1929.
He was blamed for the economic situation America was in, which then led to the creation of
Hoovervilles and Shanty Towns. A Hooverville is defined as a collection of huts and shacks, as
at the edge of a city, housing the unemployed during the 1930 s. Charles Michelson is credited
with creating the term Hooverville. The Hooverville shanties were usually made of cardboard, tar,
lumber, glass, paper, and anything else people could get their hands on. These collections of huts
could be found all over the country. The people living in a shanty were unemployed and homeless.
For the homeless it was either stay at a Hooverville or live on the streets. ... Show more content on

The Hoovervilles in the big cities were larger in size than the ones that were in small towns.
There was a specific Hooverville in St. Louis, Missouri that inhabited thousands of people. That
village was built in 1930 and it had its own mayor and churches. This Hooverville differed from
the rest because it was funded by private donations. It stayed running until 1936, when they
demolished it. One thing that everyone in a Hooverville had in common was the fact that they
were all out of work. If you are out of work that means that you have no money to help fund the
place where you are living. That is why most of the Hoovervilles were worn down and

Vengeance In Hamlet
Revenge is one of the most evident themes in The Tragedy of Hamlet. It is actually a
fundamental driving forces in the play. Vengeance is necessary to several characters in Hamlet
including: Hamlet, Fortinbras, and Laertes. Respectively, they are obliged to seek vengeance in
order for a father to go to heaven, to reclaim land lost by a father, and to unhold family honor.
Most of the plot in the play revolves around the premise of achieving these goals. Their quests to do
so will result in either their own demise or enhancement.

Rue Morgue Vs The Bone Collector
A question that is often debated is that of what makes a good story. In the 1800s, Edgar Allan
Poe created one list of rules that he think make a good detective story. These include requirements
such as clues must be present to allow the reader to solve the crime and a detective with strong
intuitive skills (Class Handout). Two mystery tales that attempted to follow these rules are Poe s
own short story, The Murders in the Rue Morgue, and a movie, The Bone Collector. According to
these guidelines, The Murders in the Rue Morgue is a better mystery story than The Bone Collector
because of the detective s strong but reasonable intuitive skills and the fair clues that are given to
the reader. Both stories have detectives present in them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Long before Poe made his rules about detective stories, Aristotle made his own requirements for
a tragedy, such as fear, morality, and spectacle. (Class Handout) Poe s story ignores many of the
requirements that Aristotle gives for a tragedy. The reader feels no fear in Poe s story because
the detective is never in any true danger. In The Bone Collector, the detective is in near constant
danger and spectacle is used to convey this fear to the watcher. The Bone Collector also has an
element of morality that is entirely missing in Poe s story. At the end of the story, the villain,
Marcus Andrews, makes it about more than just the story. He claims that because the detectives
couldn t solve the clues, [the murdered victim s] blood is on [the detectives ] hands (The Bone
Collector). Instead of trying to bring in this morality into Poe s story, Poe instead makes the
story about an orangutan that doesn t even have morals. While all this makes The Bone Collector
a good tragedy, it does not make it a good mystery, because a mystery requires specific criteria.
The Murders in the Rue Morgue is a good mystery but a poor Aristotelian tragedy because it is
missing these vital

Argumentative Essay About Women
In recent times, the word feminist and all of its many ramifications have become increasingly
more troubling. In the pure, untainted form of the word, a feminist is someone who actively
supports the advocacy of women s rights on the basis of equality of the sexes. This means
believing in the treatment of women as equals to men, both intellectually and socially. However,
in contemporary culture, it would seem that if you are a feminist, then you must be a feminazi. If
you are not, then you must hate women. Regardless of which side of battle one chooses to take
up arms for, or if one decides to take no side at all, he or she cannot escape the integral question:
why, in this day and age, are men still outperforming women in the professional... Show more
content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some would argue that this is because women place a higher level of importance on more
personal goals, such as raising a family or achieving personal satisfaction in life. The former of
these goals can wreak havoc on a woman s career. Certainly, childbirth plays a role, knocking
ambitious women off their professional stride for months (if not years) at a time while their
male peers face no such catastrophic derailment (Dorment 698). Nevertheless many women have
successfully borne children and returned to work to climb the ranks of the professional ladder.
As for the latter of these more personal goals, satisfaction in life will almost invariably mean
different things to different people, male or female. Men may obtain more satisfaction from a
demanding career while for women it may be spending more time with family and friends. Or
vice versa. Regardless of where the individual s personal satisfaction comes from, this is an
important life pursuit. As long as a person is satisfied in the life he or she leads, it should not
matter whether or not the individual, man or woman, holds a high powered professional position.
Another proposed reason for the ambition gap is the biological differences between men and
women. It is indeed possible that men are more assertive and women more nurturing due to
genetics. However, in today s world, where we no longer have to hunt in the wild for our food, our
desire for

This decoding is the basis of learning to read. The other major impairment is in reading
comprehension. Students with an impairment in reading comprehension often can read fluently
without difficulty, however are unable to understand what they have read. Reading comprehension
involves accessing meanings of words and higher order thinking. Making inferences and self
monitoring are crucial skills needed for comprehending text (Snowling Hulme, 2012). Numerous
interventions have been implemented to help students with reading disorders achieve success in
reading. Estevas and Whitten (2011) state that teachers are responsible for providing a variety of
methods of instruction and intervention that are effective in remediating difficulties with reading.
Assisted reading with audio recordings is mentioned as one such intervention that has been proven
to be effective for students with reading disorders (Estevas Whitten, 2011). Assisted reading occurs
when students listen to an audio recording of fluent reading as they read along. Not only does this
method help students increase fluency, it also allows older students access to grade level text. The
authors suggest using assisted reading with audiobooks to increase the effectiveness of sustained
silent reading time in the classroom. The research findings related to assisted reading show that this
intervention improves reading fluency and promotes comprehension for struggling readers (Estevas
Whitten, 2011).

Contemporary Nursing Theories
Contemporary Nursing Theories NUR513/Theoretical Foundation of Practice June 4, 2012 Lisa
Ousley Contemporary Nursing Theories Introduction Nursing is a profession that employs the use
of the combination of physical science, social science, nursing theory, and technology in the
provision of care to others (Sigma Theta Tau International). Nursing theories serve as the
groundwork for the practice of the profession. It guides every nurse on how to do things effectively
and competently. This paper endeavors to give emphasis on contemporary nursing theories
specifically focusing on a variety of aspects, such as definitions, concept statements, metaparadigms,
philosophies, and conceptual models. Moreover, this paper also aims to... Show more content on

7). In these two definitions of man, it is evident that man as described in the adaptation theory
portrays the different dimensions of a man whereas man in the self care theory is depicted in
general. Health Health is the product of practices that people have learned to carry out on their
own behalf to maintain life and well being as stressed in the self care theory by Dorothea Orem
(Timby, 2009, p. 7). Conversely, Health is defined as the person s capability to respond
appropriately to changes in the environment (Timby, 2009). It is apparent that the two
aforementioned theories defined health in varied ways; self care theory views health as a product
of individuals practices whereas adaptation theory deems that health is based on the person s inner
ability. Environment The environment as stressed in Orem s self care theory comprises of elements
with which man interacts within an attempt to maintain self care (Timby, 2009, p. 7). On the other
hand, in Roy s adaptation theory, the environment denotes the internal and external forces in a
continual state of change (Timby, 2009). The definitions of environment stressed in the theories is
somehow related, for it portrays the environment as consisting of elements or forces that man
interacts with, and such relationship will determine its effect to the individual if modifications may
transpire. Nursing As highlighted in Orem s self care theory, Nursing is a human service that

Confucius And The Ancient Rites And Moral Standard Were...
Confucius is an educator having over three thousand disciples, a statesman employed not only in
his own State but in several other, but most importantly, he is a ritualist who is a firm believer
and steadfast advocator of the Way, which has long been discarded by rulers in Confucius time.
During his time, the House of Chou had declined, the ancient rites and moral standard were
forgotten, but he had been striving to become a superior person , a gentleman, in his whole life,
and developed a variety of moral philosophies that was cited and organized by his disciples into the
book Analects after Confuciuss demise.
Confucius was born in Tsou, a small village in the State of Lu. He was later given the personal
name Chiu with courtesy name Chung ni and the surname Kung. His father, Shuliang He, died
soon after Confucius s birth, and his mother refused to tell him his father s name nor where his
father was buried. Therefore, growing up in this single and impecunious Confucius was solitary
and lack of social relations in his childhood, thus developing his interest in performing rites. As a
child, Confucius liked to entertain himself with sacrificial vessels, using them to set out ceremony
and practice that he considered to be rites and sacrificial offerings.
Only after his mother s death were young Confucius told things about his father, then he buried his
mother alongside his father, although at considerable expense. After these rites, Confucius finally
obtained his family

What Is The Mood Of The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber
In Ernest Hemingway s short story, ВЁThe Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,ВЁ readers
learn about Francis character through the perspectives of other characters. Hemingway develops
Francis character as a man full of shame, cowardice, and bravery by using multiple perspectives as
he threads a negative tone throughout the story.
Topic Sentence: A characteristic of Francis that is developed through the short storyis shamefulness.
Example Wilson Perspective: Francis brings shame upon himself when he continually asks Wilson
to not talk about the lion. Wilson furthers the shamefulness by saying ВЁI m a professional hunter.
We never talk about our clientsВЁ (Page 4)

She brings shame and pain upon her husband by hinting to him that he was not the actual one that
killed the lion. Margaret uses the lion hunt as a way to mentally bully and harm Francis as she has
done in the past to show she is the one that controls their relationship.
Transition sentence: The narrator also contributes to tell about and bring shamefulness into the life
of Francis Macomber
Evidence Narrator:Sometimes Hemingway uses the narrator to further develop characteristics, such
as on page 1, The gun bearers had taken no part in the demonstration.
Explanation: The gun bearers do not verbally bring shame into Francis life, however they do bring
shame into his life by their actions. They brings shame to Francis because they know what really
happened with the lion hunt. The gun bearers not congratulating him for the kill plays a major role in
the story and the unmanliness Mr.Macomber experienced through his life.
Conclusion sentence: Hemingway s craft of repetition creates shame for Francis. Repetition creates
shame for Francis because he is constantly looked down from his wife and Wilson. By using
multiple characters to portray this character trait, it further explains and shows the true meaning of

Throughout my teenage years I participated in many volunteer activities in my community. I
worked with several volunteer programs at my church, including serving as an assistant teacher for
the English as Second Language group, feeding and socializing with residents during the
hypothermia housing for the homeless, and packaging and delivering food for the FACETS food

by far because it combined the two things that I loved, horses and therapy, to help people grow and

The Link Between Mahayana Buddhism And Chinese Culture
The link between Mahayana Buddhism and Chinese Culture
Buddhism has been the main religion of china for several thousands of years. In fact, Buddhism is
an indispensable element of Chinese philosophy and literature. As we all know, Buddhism
originated in India and first spread to China around 100BC. Nevertheless, (Mahayana) Buddhism in
China separated itself from the mainstream Buddhism and created a new form of Bodhisattva
precept instead of following the Indian Vinaya precept. The distinct Chinese history and culture
played significant roles in the development and formation of Mahayana Buddhism . The change of
Chinese society also had a great impact on the doctrine and status of Mahayana Buddhism. In this
paper, I will illustrate the reason why Buddhism was widely accepted by China as an alien religion
, analyze how the indigenous philosophy such as Taoism and Confucianism affected the Mahayana
concept and find the relationship between Mahayana Buddhism and Chinese Imperialism.
Chinese has always been a confident nation most of the time. As they believe that China is the
Celestial Empire of the world, Chinese rulers and scholars are reluctant to accept heterodox
knowledge, especially religion. For hundreds of years, Confucianism had been the essence of
Chinese Philosophy. However, By the middle of the second century A.D, the great Han Empire
was on the edge of disintegration. The upper level of Han socio political order was riven by conflict

The Core Elements of Person-Centered Counseling
Person centered counseling (PCC) is one of the key models of understanding for the dynamic force
that lies behind the therapist/client relationship. This particular model focuses on the three core
elements of unconditional positive regard, empathic understanding and congruence, all of which
related to the establishment of a level of trust, understanding, respect and honesty between the two
players. But what happens when the domain of person centered counselinggets usurped by a
computer centered reality ?
Can there really be person centered counseling in the day and age of digital manipulation and
engagement? What does it mean when gaming addictions are a leader on the scoreboard of issues
of concern to many young people? And if there can be an equivalent contemporary model, what are
the implications of this for the use of the kinds of therapeutic interventions that are likely to be the
best for dealing with problem computer usage?
This paper provides a brief overview of the three core elements of the PCC model and then seeks
to explore how they are likely impacted by the evolution of the fast paced realities of computer and
technological immersion. Clients and therapists are already finding themselves engaged together on
many fronts in the dynamic universe of cyberpsychology where the rules about what is real or
ideal and how human perceptions of these transfer to real life are just beginning to be understood.
First, however, it needs to be recognized that this

How The Technological And Cultural Impact Of The World...
The Chicago World Fair of 1893, or The World Columbian Exposition , was a watershed event in
American history and influenced many of the technological and cultural changes of the early 20th
century. When establishing whether the Fair was a turning point in American society, one must
assess the extent to which society was changed by the event. Industrially, The World Fair added
200 new buildings to the city s skyline, including the famous Ferris Wheel. Economically, the fair
brought in an over 1 million dollar surplus for stockholders, making it the standard to which all
other fairs would be compared to. And socially, the fair brought the community together through
music and shows and with inventions like Aunt Jemima s syrup and Juicy Fruit gum. Thus, The
World Columbian Expo did, in fact, influence the 20th century industrially, economically and
culturally. The late 19th century was a time for technological and industrial triumph. Inventions of
this time proved so benign that they are still used to this day. The World s Columbian Exposition
channeled this new creative mindset of people and set it into action on the world s stage. Erik
Larson constructs an image of these inventions as, They (fair goers) saw the first moving pictures
on Edison s Kinetoscope, and they watched as lightning chattered from Nikola Tesla s body. They
saw even more ungodly things the first zipper; the first ever all electric kitchen, which included an
automatic dishwasher; and a box purporting

The Narrative Of The New Zealand
The narrative of the New Zealand feature film What We Do in the Shadows (2014) directed by
Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, follows the lives of three vampires, Viago, Deacon and
Vladislav as they struggle to try to cope with the complexities of modern life. Living in a flat in
Wellington, these modern day vampires are faced with the mundanities of everyday life, and things
such as paying rent, trying to get into nightclubs and overcoming flatmate conflicts prove to be
extremely difficult. What We Do in the Shadows is unique in that it combines parody and
cinematography, while also using a mixture of two genres, vampireand mockumentary, to comment
on contemporary social formations and to challenge traditional cultural myths. These elements of
the filmhave been used to ensure the portrayal of the horrific as mundane and ordinary. What We
Do in the Shadows uses aspects of the vampire genre to demonstrate the changes that the cinematic
vampire has faced over the years. As Kane states, both the demeanour and appearance of the
cinematic vampire has changed drastically since its introduction with Bela Lugosi in 1931 (1),
which has resulted in the creation of the modern day cinematic vampire that we see in What We Do
in the Shadows. Throughout film history three distinct periods of vampire narrative can be
observed. Initially, the first cinematic vampires were formally dressed and presented as the leading
villains in films, the second type showed more human

Elizabethan Er The Era Of Beauty And Fascination
Elizabethan Era Clothing
The Elizabethan era was an extraordinarily fashion era for both man and women, a time when
everything was changing from the fifteenth century simple dress to extravagant and dramatic styles
which we call Elizabethan fashion. At that time, new styles, modern yet unique fabrics, charm
colors, sharp design and glamor silhouette were evolving. Every layer and piece of Elizabethan
outfit was equally important, from the fancy dress to the smallest details. Definitely, the
Elizabethan era was the time of beauty and fascination. In fact, during the Elizabethan time clothing
reflects mood, values and the person s statue in the society. So fashion at that time was the primary
indicator of one s social statue and the differences in styling between upper class and lower class
were noticeable and very easy distinguished, in terms of fabric, colors, and design.
During the Elizabethan time period, in order to understand a person s life style including clothes,
we must first understand how the society at that time worked. The Elizabethan society was divided
into three classes, first upper class including nobles and royalty, second middle class or hard
working class, and finally lower class or peasants. The availability of fabrics, colors, and designs
were extremely limited for lower class compared to upper class who has unlimited access to a
variety of expansive fabrics and colors. These divisions in clothing were stated in the Sumptuary
Laws or also known as

Conservative Views Of The Republican Party Of 2016
I ve spent a lot of time recently reading conservative explanations of Why I support Donald
Trump. Interestingly they often don t articulate any policy issues, but rather attack the
alternatives. I read one particularly weak argument (bereft of any facts) that said If Bernie wins
we ll have a socialist president, and that is really scary! It is this subject that I d like to address:
the unreasonable, rampant fear of socialismin America today. The Republican party of 2016 is
hard to define, but one characteristic that stands out is their abject hatred (or fear of) socialism.
They lashed out at the Affordable Care Act and president Obama as being socialist and have
made the claim that it is greatest current threat to America. Really? Socialism. There are not
many words that are more feared and/or hated in America during the last 8 years. It s the
monster that hides under your bed when you re young. You re not quite sure what the monster
looks like, but you know it is something to be afraid of. You ve watched too many Friday the

risked taking the time to look under your bed for it, and instead have relied on the rants and

Recorded music has been around for hundreds of years, and music in general has been around for
thousands of years, but yet we still do not have a good rating system for music. Music is not
officially rated, but given a Parental Advisory Label if the artist or record label believes the music
contains any explicit content. This label was created and adopted by the Recording Industry
Association of America(RIAA) in 1985. Even though this label has been around since 1985, it is
not a good system for rating music, and is potentially harming artists and the consumer. Parents
could be misinformed about what their children are listening to, and artists could potentially lose

A rating system should not be optional but a necessity. All in all, due to the change in style of
music from when the Parental Advisory Label was created, music warnings should be more
descriptive and a must on all music . This is possible by creating a new rating system to replace
the Parental Advisory Label .
In addition to this, a new rating system is needed to help protect the consumer. As shown before
music has changed, and this change affects the consumer. In rap and hip hop music drug abuse
is glorified and shown as a positive thing. Children, who do not know any better, hear this music
and think it is okay to abuse drugs. But it is not okay, and this needs to be fixed. For example,
researchers from the University of California, Berkeley found that there was sixfold increase in
drug references in songs over the past two decades (Preidt 1). This proves how drug references
has increased exponentially since the Parental Advisory Label was created. Additionally, the
dean of students at the School of Public Health stated Positive portrayals of drug use have
increased over time, and drug references increased overall. This is an alarming trend, as rap
artists are role models for the nation s youth, especially in urban areas. Many of these young
people are already at risk and need to get positive messages from the media. (Herd 1). Altogether
this proves that drug abuse is normalized and in some cases even

The novel Edible Women, by Margaret Atwood, is a piece of literature that describes the women
s role in the 1960s. The book centers around a woman named Marian McAlpin, who faces
problems in her relationship. Marian gets engaged to Peter, who is narcissistic and controlling.
She notices that ever since she has gotten engaged, she is starting to lose her appetite. This essay
will seek to prove that food is a symbol of Marian s identity.
The novel introduces the readers to Marian, a well educated woman, who works in Seymour

woman. Marian is engaged to a self obsessed man names Peter, a lawyer, who is only using her

Safety Management Systems SMS
Safety Management System (SMS) is a term used to refer to a comprehensive business management
system designed to manage occupational safety and health elements in the workplace.[2]
A Safety Management System provides a systematic way to identify hazards and control risks
while maintaining assurance that these risk controls are effective.[3] SMS can be defined as:
a businesslike approach to safety. It is a systematic, explicit and comprehensive process for
managing safety risks. As with all management systems, a safety management system provides for
goal setting, planning, and measuring performance. A safety management system is woven into the

There are three imperatives for adopting a safety management system for a business these are

Water Conservation Is A Growing Problem
Water Conservation is a growing problem today around the globe. Water is one of Earth s most
limited resources. Our population is going up every year and more people means more need for
water. Everyone knows about the water cycle and it shows us that we have the same amount of
water on earth at all times. The water cycleworks hard and is continuously moving water all across
the globe. Earth honestly does not have enough drinkable water to keep up with our growing
population. Out of Earth s water, only 2.5% is fresh water, and we aren t even able to use that
considering majority of that is frozen or polluted. We basically have 1% of drinkable water.
Without water, most daily tasks are undoable. Agriculture actually uses a majority of the water.
They need water to grow plants and to water animals so that we have foods to eat. There are ways
to teach agriculture producers to conserve water without having to restrict their water usage.
California farmers for example are going through a tough time with conserving water. There is an
abundance of water used in California to water the vegetables that are grown and produced there;
promoting less water use can help us conserve water. I will be informing you of three groups I
believe make a huge impact on communicating water conservation to Agriculture. These three
groups all share a common bond, which is water conservation.

Software as a Service
Many years ago, to use software, businesses and organizations purchase traditionally packaged
applications, such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop, and install them locally onto their
computers. In the 1990 s, upon the expansion of the Internet, Application Service Provider (ASP)
was introduced wherein businesses were provided with software that they can access over the
Internetthrough a web browser. But then, service and financial failures occurred as a result of
actions such as rushing the market offerings before issues were solved and failing to cut the costs
for the customers at a greater extent because of having a unique server for each customer. Those
scalability problems or the ability to adapt to increasing demands, and reliability problems
eventually led to its downfall. Software as a Service(SaaS) or also known as on demand then
evolved from the ASP model. With SaaS, software is not installed in the customer s computerbut in
the provider s server somewhere else, and to access the software, the customer needs to connect
to that server through either a thin client, which is a computer or a program that relies on another
computer, or a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome.
Basically, it is also a software delivery model. But unlike the ASP, it has increased user awareness
and is a multi tenant based service which means that repairs, updates, and upgrades are applied
once for all customers instead of one at a time, making

Gender Roles In Theatre
Introduction
We decided on this research topic as a group after having been assigned the category of gender
and sexuality. I had mentioned to my group that I had seen a significantly lower number of men in
the theatre program at my high school, and this trend only seemed to continue as I reached post
secondary. My colleagues agreed and stated their own experiences of either playing a character of a
different gender in plays they had been in, or watching a play and seeing a clear difference
between the number of men and women on stage. This brought us to consider why this might be
the case. Why are there so few men in theatre? I then brought up how, being a film student, there
never seems to be a shortage of male actors for our films. My colleagues ... Show more content on

We added a variety of professions and career fields, ranging from nurse to business executive
including, of course, film and theatre acting in between. We chose the professions to rate based on
what we as a research team considered stereotypically masculine or feminine, and balancing it out
with some careers we considered neutral. We were also sure to include a variety of fine arts
professions in order to mask our intention behind the survey so that it would be more difficult for
someone to throw the results. These were then randomized differently for every survey participant.
These results were used to directly answer our research question/ test our hypothesis. Anonymity
was ensured by the fact that there was no question asking participants to enter their name, age or
post secondary institution, and consent was achieved by the first question of our survey being a
short consent form. Had a participant decided they did not want to continue, their information

False Memory In Elizabeth Loftus
Forgetting Paper
Anthony J. Hebdo
Ohio Christian University
May 19, 2018
Forgetting Paper
Elizabeth Loftus is a cognitive psychologist who studies memory. More specifically she studies
false memories and how memories can be changed by things we are told. Facts, ideas, suggestions
and other post event information can modify our memories. In the video, Loftus opens with a story
about a man named Steve Titus. He was a convicted of a crime he didn t commit. The victim that
identified him first told the police that Steve Titus s picture looked closest to the perpetrator. Later,
during the trial the same person identified him with absolute certainty. How is this possible? False
memories.
The video goes on to explain that Steve Titus s case is not the only case where someone was
convicted because of false memories. In the United States, there have been about 300 cases where
innocent people have been convicted of crimes they didn t commit. Of those cases about 225 are

The book states, your memory is only as good as your last memory. The fewer times you use it, the
more unchanged it is (Myers Dewall, 2014). This means that to some degree all memory is false.
When continuously exposed to misinformation it is called the misinformation effect. The
misinformation effect is when a memory has been corrupted by misleading information (Myers
Dewall, 2014). When exposed to misleading information, we tend to misremember. Hearing a vivid
retelling of a story or event could implant false memories. Misinformation and source amnesia
happen without our awareness. Because of this it is hard for people to scrutinize false memories
from the real memories. For example, as adults some often tell stories of their childhoods. They
might not actually remember everything that happed so they fill in the blanks. By filling in these
blanks the more they tell the story the more the filled in parts become false

An Analysis Of Sunday In The Park With George
Sunday in the Park With George: An Analysis White. A blank page or canvas. His favorite. So
many possibilities. Sunday in the Park with George, a musical by Stephen Sondheim and James
Lapine, is a very curious musical indeed. The first and second act are separated by a century, the
protagonist manages to control the entirety of the show, from the way the story flows, the style,
even down to the arrangement of the set pieces. The show transcends a traditional musical in the
way it tackles a very specific issue, that of the artist s struggle to connect to the rest of the world. It
has been argued that this show is completed in its first act, but that is actually not the case. Those
that argue that the show is complete after the first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He creates a piece of art using light and lasers to recreate his great grandfather s masterpiece, and
is again criticized for his lack of vision. He finally finds confidence in himself when he reads

While reading the notes Dot wrote, Dot appears to this younger George and addresses his doubts
and tells him he needs to move on and stop worrying about if his work will please others. In this,
George and Dot are finally reunited and George manages to find his vision again. The first act of
the show introduces us to the struggle of our main character. George struggles with something
that many artists struggle with: the need to create great work, often at the cost of other things in
life. George s life is consumed by this, as shown in the number Finishing the Hat, where George
expresses how his view of the world works. How you watch the rest of the world from a window,
while you finish the hat. George laments on how his art consumes him and how he can only see
the world through a window. The problem with the first act is that it never resolves this struggle
with George. Without the second act, George never is fully resolved, left in this state of
imbalance. The second act focuses on Seurat s descendent, and his focus on being a successful
artist. This new George has both the same and opposite problem

The School Age Child Is Kept On The Heart Of A Child
The Young Child is constantly withheld from many of his desires by physical restrictions. We
use baby gates, fences, locks on doors and cabinets (restricted areas), cribs, playpens, leashes,
and brief commands ( NO! YES! ). We carefully watch the young child; monitoring what he sees,
where he goes, and with whom he associates. These barriers are primarily for the purpose of
protecting the child from himself from his own desire to seek his own will prior to an age when
he has knowledge, self discipline, a fear of the Lord, or help from the Holy Spirit to resist that
which is harmful to him. The School Age Child is still in bondage under the elements of the
world. Gal. 4:3 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child. Prov. 22:15a Having foolishness in
his heart, he is likely to act the part of a fool a fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his
heart may discover itself. Prov. 18:2 He constantly desires to venture into the department store of
the flesh. Nothing is more dangerous than allowing a child to discover himself at this age. The
heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jer. 17:9 Being at the
beginning of his formal training in self discipline, he is relatively helpless at controlling his own
desires; and the fleshly nature is thought to be a fascinating friend rather than seen to contain no
good thing. Rom. 7:18 As a parent, you must protect him from his own worst enemy his flesh, and

known for its breathtaking landscape. Being only an hour and a half from Goldsboro, I can
quickly get home if needed. The University of North Carolina at Wilmington is known for its size,
for the price reasonability, and for the Cameron School of Business. Upon acceptance to UNC W, I
plan to attend the Cameron School of Business. In this area, you can specialize in different aspects
such as accounting, marketing, and human resource. The Cameron School of Business also has
contact to an organization called the Cameron Executive Network. This is a program where retired
and current senior executives mentor students in the business school. The size of UNC W is very

The Two Fridas Picasso
Pablo Picasso, one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century and co founder of
the Cubist movement, was a participant in Europe s political discourse during most of the early
1900s. Picasso s Guernica, one of his most powerful political statements, was painted as an
immediate reaction to the Nazi s casual bombing practice on the Basque town of Guernicaduring the
Spanish Civil War. Guernica, a mural size canvas painted in blue, black, and white oil, shows
tragedies of war and the suffering it inflicts upon individuals, particularly innocent civilians. Picasso
depicts turmoil, people and animals suffering, with building in disarray torn apart by violence and
mayhem. With Guernica, Picasso establishes his identity and his strength as an artist when
confronted with political authority and intolerable violence, especially in his native land.

Mexican garb and the other in European influenced fashion. Frida Kahlo, an European influenced
painter, painted many elements of Mexican culture including folkloric images and the Tehuana

the cultural independence of Mexico but also to help her identify with the poor and the peasants
during the Mexican Revolution. Her artwork particularly speaks to women, especially women s
experiences of physical and emotional pain which is symbolized by the many broken hearts in her
self portraits, also shown in The Two Fridas. Kalho s work successfully succeeds in illustrating her

Arranged Marriages In America
Throughout society, marriage is seen as a special symbol of two people becoming one.
In the eastern side of the world, arranged marriages are very common. It is not like the western
world where couples date to know each other then choose whether they are the perfect match.
Arranged marriages are often chosen by the elders in the family. This practice has been handed
down for centuries. Throughout the marriage process, there are certain procedures that must be
followed in eastern matchmaking. Once a match has been chosen, the couple will learn over time
that commitment and acceptance comes prior to emotions and happiness. Even though our western
ways may seem normal to us, the traditions of eastern marriages are custom through procedure,
commitment and acceptance within their society.
While every traditional marriage may be different, the eastern custom has chosen to abide by long
established procedures. These procedures consist of family members who decide on what is best
for their offspring. The decisions which are considered range from family values, education,
wealth, and physical appearance. This practice has worked well for the union of marriage for the
two chosen individuals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dreams Do Come True In The Story Of Cinderella
Dreams Do Come True in the Story of Cinderella
Cinderella, a favorite fairy tale for all ages, shows that if one would truly believe in their hopes
and dreams, they can achieve anything. The story of Cinderella is about a young girl, Cinderella,
who lost her father at a young age, and became an almost slave to her devious step mother and
step sisters. When the king and queen decided to hold a ball for the prince one day, all the
maidens in town was all invited in hopes of finding the right woman for the prince. Hearing these
news, Cinderella decides to also go and enjoy the ball only then to have her dress ruined by her
step mother. As she weeps about her broken dreams, a fairy godmother appears and lifts up her

She is kind, smart, and head strong and anyone would those qualities would help them succeed
in life. Cinderella, whether it be a production or a movie, teaches kids these concepts of
goodness, but is this the only traits that are taught to the young children?Of course not all can be
judged from just the outer appearances, as shown when Cinderella first met Prince Charming at
the market, where he was faking to be a normal citizen. Outer appearance plays such a huge
impact on the storyline, and although it is more discreet, it still sends out an equally powerful
message to the audience about the importance the physical traits. During the ball scene,
Cinderella quickly captivated the prince because she stood out amongst the other woman. She
was described to be the most beautiful out of all, specifically described in the step sisters song
she is a girl whos merely lovely. Had she not get transformed by the fairy godmother, she might
have not been noticed by the prince. This goes to shows that without beauty, she would only be
one of the many faces at the ball. Without beauty, one would make have a harder time to reach
their dreams. If Cinderella was not as pretty, the prince might not taken the time to talk to her at
all. Even the prince once made a comment on it he sang do I love you because youre beautiful, or
are you beautiful because I love you? to show that he actually wasnt sure if he really loved her at

  • 2. Aristotle s Views Of Poetry Essay Socratic moral philosophy is important in poetry because it engages poets in rational thinking when making poems. Poetry is mostly communicated through written texts; it can be used to expand one s knowledge of himself or herself and the world. However, philosophers disparage poetry by its composition and senses such as imitation, representation, fiction, and expression. On this note, Socratesused philosophical explorations to criticize the role of poetryin the world. Many poets engage in imitation and imagination in their poetic works, which limits the chances of poetry enhancing knowledge in the society. The branch points between poets and Socrates are imitation versus and imagination versus reason. Socrates was an influential Greek philosopher; however, he never wrote any book and his ideologies are mostly presented by Plato, who was his student. Plato explains Socrates attitude towards poetry in his books, the Republic and the Symposium. Afterward, he offers his perceptions and solutions to the matter. Plato s Republic explains Socrates mindset towards poetry censorship. Socrates argued that poetry lacked wisdom because there was no censorship of works of poetry. As a result, poets can write about anything they wish to inscribe, which enhances imitation. On this note, Socrates argued that poetry exposed citizens to different forms of imitation, which would corrupt their minds because they had no restrictions. On the other hand, Plato offers a solution towards the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of Hypocrite Of Women By Denise Levertov Hypocrite of Women, by Denise Levertov seems to contain a deep message within its playful wording. The basic meaning that I was able to pull from within this was that as women we are hypocrites, because we will shun others within society for what we consider to be inappropriate behavior, or below the standards of society, however when it comes down to our own personal faults within our characters, we tend to overlook them or ignore them. This is a fascinating poem because I feel like it does reflect how society was as well as is today. In The Ache of Marriage, I was able to discern that Denise Levertov s goal was to explore the pain of an unwanted marriage. The pain that she reflects within her writing seems to be of both an emotional and a physical basis. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She seems to be saying that without the pain and the tribulations, a marriage wouldn t be worth as much. It s almost like she says that the sacrifices are what makes the marriage worth it. The pain of this marriage results in the ultimate achievement of the objective of marriage. The poem states that all the aches and pains of marriage are worth going through because the love of another is epic. I found that the two of these poems together were a fascinating combination, because one speaks of the hypocrisy of not doing anything about the flaws in a person s own characteristics, and the other seems to say to live with the pain that you have to live with the faults; through doing so one will find bliss; it is worth the sacrifice. I like the fact that they seem to contradict one another because as people in general we tend to contradict ourselves. As a reader I was able to connect to both of these particular poems by Denise Levertov, because I was able to see how in my own life where I might have judged another for some preconceived idea that society laid before me, yet not think twice about what I ... • 4. Scorecard System Essay When an organization implements any management control tool, the cost/benefit balance is vital. The decision to deploy a scorecard system requires the same analysis. The costs of implementing a new tool are relatively easy to appraise, but often, there s a lack of reliable information about the benefits. This article explores the extent to which organizations have realized significant benefits from using a scorecardsystem. (We use the term quot;scorecard system quot; to include both the scorecard as a control tooland the process, or technique, of integrating the scorecard system into the overall performance achievement cycle of the firm.) Over 150 service, manufacturing, and government organizations have responded to an on line ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A related observation is that employees in the SBG both accepted the scorecard system and used it as an effective management control tool, whereas there was only minimal acceptance and use in the NSBG. Often, the benefits of a scorecard system are soft ones, but organizations in our survey also reported documented benefits such as a reduction in overheads of 25% in three years and quot;significant improvement in employee satisfaction and the highest sales and profit ever. quot; This result isn t unexpected: if communicating strategy and aligning employee behaviour with strategy aren t top priorities of a scorecard system, employees won t see value in using the system. Compensation links Employees value what s measured but too often what s measured isn t of value to the organization. The study reveals a much stronger link between measures appearing on the scorecards and the compensation and reward system for the SBG than for the NSBG. As one company noted, quot;Employees throughout the organization have become more aware of business plan goals and objectives and strive for higher performance quot; due to scorecard implementation. Another company noted that the system resulted in a significant improvement in employee satisfaction. As almost all agree, measures motivate one way or another. While we recommend that you link scorecard measures to compensation and rewards, you should also exercise care in doing so. Taking a year or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. What Is An Example Of Prescriptive Regulation A prescriptive regulation is where the regulating authority defines explicitly how a task is to be undertaken. It informs exactly what is to be done and it needs the industries to demonstrate that they have strictly adhered to the prescribed steps. A goal setting regulation on the other hand keeps the end goal or objective in mind and leaves the method used to achieve that to the industries. Here, the industries have the freedom to arrive at the goal using any way they see fit, as long as they demonstrate that the end goal has been reached. To clearly see the difference between these two contrasting regulations, we can look at some examples of each Examples of prescriptive regulation Footings for masonry chimneys shall be constructed of concrete or solid masonry at least 12 inches (305mm) thick and shall extend at least 6 inches (152mm) beyond the face of the foundation or support wall on all sides. Footings shall be founded on natural undisturbed earth or engineered fill below frost depth. In areas not subject to freezing, footings shall be at least 12 inches (305mm) below finished grade 1 Thru bolts shall have a diameter of 12 . Pilot holes for thru bolts shall be 1732 to 916 in diameter. Thru bolts require washers at the bolt head and nut. 2 Here, we can see that the regulations clearly states how the footings for chimneys should be built in the first case and the diameter of thru bolts in the latter. Anything apart from this specification will lead to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of The Grumbling Hive, By Bernard Mandeville The renowned economist Milton Friedman once said, Innovation comes from self interest, not government agencies. This idea, seen as controversial and offensive to many, is at the core of Bernard Mandeville s argument in his poem, The Grumbling Hive: or, Knaves turn d Honest. The poem compares the working of society to a busy hive. The hive is flourishing until suddenly the bees become honest and righteous leading them to live simple lives without a thrive community. Through this analogy, Mandeville argues that pursuit of private vices generates public improvements and economic prosperity, meaning, individuals tendencies to pursue their own vices, such as lust and greed to innovationfor society as a whole. This is demonstrated through the benefits of marijuana legalization. Mandeville addresses many aspects of degeneracy and selfishness within private life, highlighting vice as an intrinsic and unavoidable part of . Vice, by Mandeville s standards, is an action that fulfills the individual in some respect but is immoral, selfish, and unfair. The seven deadly sins provide a framework for behavior that would be considered detrimental and self regarding. Mandeville, in the poem, provides examples of such actions within all echelons of society. Mandeville writes, Physicians valu d Fame and Wealth/ Above the dropping Patient s Health (71 72). As example of greed, medical professionals pursuit of capital gain and social stature are the driving factor in treating patients rather than an altruistic desire to aid humanity. Again, Mandeville displays occurrences of vice within society by demonstrating instances of individual s pursuit of wealth at the expense of others, Their Kings were serv d, but Knavishly,/ Cheated by their own Ministry;/ ...Robbing the very Crown they saved (113 117). The King s own advisors and officials steal from him, greedily pursuing their own self interests over that of the Kingdom. Mandaville is a realist in the sense that he acknowledges humanities inherent drive to serve oneself before others and engage in immoral and corrupt behavior. He addresses greed and dishonesty in private life without hesitation or resentment. It is this self pursuit that Mandeville argues actually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Human Resources Are Responsible For Making And Driving... 1.1 A number of Human Resources objectives support organisational goals, such as profitability, business reputation, ethics and principles according to Mayhew, R. (2014). Human Resources are responsible for making and driving decisions to assist with the strategy of their organisation. Each individual organisation will have their own mission and vision statements which will outline the short term and long term objectives of the organisation and HR are responsible for helping to successfully reach those goals. Managing change and implementing new ideas, methods and strategies are responsibilities of the HR Function. Forward thinking is vitally important to a successful organisation and HR will translate the short and long term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within this era of the HR Function it would have been common practice for HR to handle recruitment, training and to deal with trade unions. Resources is a term used to describe the HR function towards the end of the 20th century as more focus was given to non monetary factors for workers rather than wages as motivators to increase productivity. There was also more focus on training and development and upskilling to get the most out the workforce. This would play as a motivator to the employee and would be a cost saving exercise for the business also. Valuable Assets is a term used to describe the current HR Function due to the added responsibility and power the function now has in addition to the Resources term of the HR Function. This is based partly on the advancement of technology and globalisation. The current HR Function also specialise in fostering a culture in organisations and shaping strategies to assist organisations in reaching their mission and vision statements. At the end of the 19th century) This was mostly women campaigning for better working conditions for other women and girls in industrial working places. (During the First World War)This was in agreement with the Trade Unions and at times led to very bitter disputes. After The First Word War, workers rights and formal rights emerged. • 8. Comparing Democracy Gaps And Participation The actual aim of this study is regarding comparing democracy gaps and participation between Arab Muslim countries and non Arab Muslim countries. The authors explain that the sixteen Arab countries in the world are not democratic and have the lowest rates of Gross Domestic Product per capita (GDPpc) concerning competitive elections. The authors continue in their arguments and study stating that thirty one countries which are Muslim, but non Arab in contrast have much higher rates of GDPpc in competitive elections. The authors are trying to examine what makes such differences in these two different categories of countries. The authors begin their thorough examination studying from the years from 1972 to 2000. The authors start contrasting countries that are Arab Muslim and non Arab Muslim, and the authors study regarding electoral competitiveness found that religions other than Islam dominate. The second stage is by qualitative, which is measuring more by quality than by quantity, it concentrated more on evaluating all the forty seven Muslim dominant states and seeing which met the standard to be labeled as an electoral competitive state. The authors then move to the third and last stage of their examination, which they emphasize on the five main theoretical and political suggestions that the prior two stages declare. The authors studies are not based on legitimate democratic countries, but on two standards, first, the countries that had reasonable fair ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. What Is Hooverville Like In The 1930s Hoovervilles The 1930 s was a difficult time period for Americans. The Great Depression was in full swing, and a fourth of Americans were out of work. The entire United States was in a huge economic depression, hence the name the Great Depression. In New York City Hoovervilles were all over the place. Kids were wearing chicken feed bags for clothes. Everybody was at their lowest. Herbert Hoover was the president in office when the stock market crashed on October 29, 1929. He was blamed for the economic situation America was in, which then led to the creation of Hoovervilles and Shanty Towns. A Hooverville is defined as a collection of huts and shacks, as at the edge of a city, housing the unemployed during the 1930 s. Charles Michelson is credited with creating the term Hooverville. The Hooverville shanties were usually made of cardboard, tar, lumber, glass, paper, and anything else people could get their hands on. These collections of huts could be found all over the country. The people living in a shanty were unemployed and homeless. For the homeless it was either stay at a Hooverville or live on the streets. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Hoovervilles in the big cities were larger in size than the ones that were in small towns. There was a specific Hooverville in St. Louis, Missouri that inhabited thousands of people. That village was built in 1930 and it had its own mayor and churches. This Hooverville differed from the rest because it was funded by private donations. It stayed running until 1936, when they demolished it. One thing that everyone in a Hooverville had in common was the fact that they were all out of work. If you are out of work that means that you have no money to help fund the place where you are living. That is why most of the Hoovervilles were worn down and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Vengeance In Hamlet Revenge is one of the most evident themes in The Tragedy of Hamlet. It is actually a fundamental driving forces in the play. Vengeance is necessary to several characters in Hamlet including: Hamlet, Fortinbras, and Laertes. Respectively, they are obliged to seek vengeance in order for a father to go to heaven, to reclaim land lost by a father, and to unhold family honor. Most of the plot in the play revolves around the premise of achieving these goals. Their quests to do so will result in either their own demise or enhancement. • 13. Rue Morgue Vs The Bone Collector A question that is often debated is that of what makes a good story. In the 1800s, Edgar Allan Poe created one list of rules that he think make a good detective story. These include requirements such as clues must be present to allow the reader to solve the crime and a detective with strong intuitive skills (Class Handout). Two mystery tales that attempted to follow these rules are Poe s own short story, The Murders in the Rue Morgue, and a movie, The Bone Collector. According to these guidelines, The Murders in the Rue Morgue is a better mystery story than The Bone Collector because of the detective s strong but reasonable intuitive skills and the fair clues that are given to the reader. Both stories have detectives present in them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Long before Poe made his rules about detective stories, Aristotle made his own requirements for a tragedy, such as fear, morality, and spectacle. (Class Handout) Poe s story ignores many of the requirements that Aristotle gives for a tragedy. The reader feels no fear in Poe s story because the detective is never in any true danger. In The Bone Collector, the detective is in near constant danger and spectacle is used to convey this fear to the watcher. The Bone Collector also has an element of morality that is entirely missing in Poe s story. At the end of the story, the villain, Marcus Andrews, makes it about more than just the story. He claims that because the detectives couldn t solve the clues, [the murdered victim s] blood is on [the detectives ] hands (The Bone Collector). Instead of trying to bring in this morality into Poe s story, Poe instead makes the story about an orangutan that doesn t even have morals. While all this makes The Bone Collector a good tragedy, it does not make it a good mystery, because a mystery requires specific criteria. The Murders in the Rue Morgue is a good mystery but a poor Aristotelian tragedy because it is missing these vital ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Argumentative Essay About Women In recent times, the word feminist and all of its many ramifications have become increasingly more troubling. In the pure, untainted form of the word, a feminist is someone who actively supports the advocacy of women s rights on the basis of equality of the sexes. This means believing in the treatment of women as equals to men, both intellectually and socially. However, in contemporary culture, it would seem that if you are a feminist, then you must be a feminazi. If you are not, then you must hate women. Regardless of which side of battle one chooses to take up arms for, or if one decides to take no side at all, he or she cannot escape the integral question: why, in this day and age, are men still outperforming women in the professional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some would argue that this is because women place a higher level of importance on more personal goals, such as raising a family or achieving personal satisfaction in life. The former of these goals can wreak havoc on a woman s career. Certainly, childbirth plays a role, knocking ambitious women off their professional stride for months (if not years) at a time while their male peers face no such catastrophic derailment (Dorment 698). Nevertheless many women have successfully borne children and returned to work to climb the ranks of the professional ladder. As for the latter of these more personal goals, satisfaction in life will almost invariably mean different things to different people, male or female. Men may obtain more satisfaction from a demanding career while for women it may be spending more time with family and friends. Or vice versa. Regardless of where the individual s personal satisfaction comes from, this is an important life pursuit. As long as a person is satisfied in the life he or she leads, it should not matter whether or not the individual, man or woman, holds a high powered professional position. Another proposed reason for the ambition gap is the biological differences between men and women. It is indeed possible that men are more assertive and women more nurturing due to genetics. Assisted reading occurs when students listen to an audio recording of fluent reading as they read along. Not only does this method help students increase fluency, it also allows older students access to grade level text. Conversely, Health is defined as the person s capability to respond appropriately to changes in the environment (Timby, 2009). It is apparent that the two aforementioned theories defined health in varied ways; self care theory views health as a product of individuals practices whereas adaptation theory deems that health is based on the person s inner ability. On the other hand, in Roy s adaptation theory, the environment denotes the internal and external forces in a continual state of change (Timby, 2009). In fact, Buddhism is an indispensable element of Chinese philosophy and literature. As we all know, Buddhism originated in India and first spread to China around 100BC. Nevertheless, (Mahayana) Buddhism in China separated itself from the mainstream Buddhism and created a new form of Bodhisattva precept instead of following the Indian Vinaya precept. The distinct Chinese history and culture played significant roles in the development and formation of Mahayana Buddhism . The Chicago World Fair of 1893, or The World Columbian Exposition , was a watershed event in American history and influenced many of the technological and cultural changes of the early 20th century. When establishing whether the Fair was a turning point in American society, one must assess the extent to which society was changed by the event. Industrially, The World Fair added 200 new buildings to the city s skyline, including the famous Ferris Wheel. Economically, the fair brought in an over 1 million dollar surplus for stockholders, making it the standard to which all other fairs would be compared to. And socially, the fair brought the community together through music and shows and with inventions like Aunt Jemima s syrup and Juicy Fruit gum. Thus, The World Columbian Expo did, in fact, influence the 20th century industrially, economically and culturally. The late 19th century was a time for technological and industrial triumph. Inventions of this time proved so benign that they are still used to this day. The World s Columbian Exposition channeled this new creative mindset of people and set it into action on the world s stage. Erik Larson constructs an image of these inventions as, They (fair goers) saw the first moving pictures on Edison s Kinetoscope, and they watched as lightning chattered from Nikola Tesla s body. • 32. Elizabethan Er The Era Of Beauty And Fascination Elizabethan Era Clothing The Elizabethan era was an extraordinarily fashion era for both man and women, a time when everything was changing from the fifteenth century simple dress to extravagant and dramatic styles which we call Elizabethan fashion. At that time, new styles, modern yet unique fabrics, charm colors, sharp design and glamor silhouette were evolving. Every layer and piece of Elizabethan outfit was equally important, from the fancy dress to the smallest details. Definitely, the Elizabethan era was the time of beauty and fascination. In fact, during the Elizabethan time clothing reflects mood, values and the person s statue in the society. So fashion at that time was the primary indicator of one s social statue and the differences in styling between upper class and lower class were noticeable and very easy distinguished, in terms of fabric, colors, and design. During the Elizabethan time period, in order to understand a person s life style including clothes, we must first understand how the society at that time worked. The Elizabethan society was divided into three classes, first upper class including nobles and royalty, second middle class or hard working class, and finally lower class or peasants. The availability of fabrics, colors, and designs were extremely limited for lower class compared to upper class who has unlimited access to a variety of expansive fabrics and colors. These divisions in clothing were stated in the Sumptuary Laws or also known as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Interestingly they often don t articulate any policy issues, but rather attack the alternatives. I read one particularly weak argument (bereft of any facts) that said If Bernie wins we ll have a socialist president, and that is really scary! It is this subject that I d like to address: the unreasonable, rampant fear of socialismin America today. The Republican party of 2016 is hard to define, but one characteristic that stands out is their abject hatred (or fear of) socialism. They lashed out at the Affordable Care Act and president Obama as being socialist and have made the claim that it is greatest current threat to America. Really? Socialism. There are not many words that are more feared and/or hated in America during the last 8 years. It s the monster that hides under your bed when you re young. Parental Advisory Label Essay Recorded music has been around for hundreds of years, and music in general has been around for thousands of years, but yet we still do not have a good rating system for music. Music is not officially rated, but given a Parental Advisory Label if the artist or record label believes the music contains any explicit content. This label was created and adopted by the Recording Industry Association of America(RIAA) in 1985. Even though this label has been around since 1985, it is not a good system for rating music, and is potentially harming artists and the consumer. Parents could be misinformed about what their children are listening to, and artists could potentially lose money due to lost potential sales. Although the Parental Advisory... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A rating system should not be optional but a necessity. All in all, due to the change in style of music from when the Parental Advisory Label was created, music warnings should be more descriptive and a must on all music . This is possible by creating a new rating system to replace the Parental Advisory Label . In addition to this, a new rating system is needed to help protect the consumer. As shown before music has changed, and this change affects the consumer. In rap and hip hop music drug abuse is glorified and shown as a positive thing. Children, who do not know any better, hear this music and think it is okay to abuse drugs. But it is not okay, and this needs to be fixed. For example, researchers from the University of California, Berkeley found that there was sixfold increase in drug references in songs over the past two decades (Preidt 1). This proves how drug references has increased exponentially since the Parental Advisory Label was created. Additionally, the dean of students at the School of Public Health stated Positive portrayals of drug use have increased over time, and drug references increased overall. This is an alarming trend, as rap artists are role models for the nation s youth, especially in urban areas. Many of these young people are already at risk and need to get positive messages from the media. (Herd 1). Altogether this proves that drug abuse is normalized and in some cases even ... The book centers around a woman named Marian McAlpin, who faces problems in her relationship. Marian gets engaged to Peter, who is narcissistic and controlling. Our population is going up every year and more people means more need for water. Everyone knows about the water cycle and it shows us that we have the same amount of water on earth at all times. The water cycleworks hard and is continuously moving water all across the globe. Earth honestly does not have enough drinkable water to keep up with our growing population. Out of Earth s water, only 2.5% is fresh water, and we aren t even able to use that considering majority of that is frozen or polluted. We basically have 1% of drinkable water. Without water, most daily tasks are undoable. Agriculture actually uses a majority of the water. They need water to grow plants and to water animals so that we have foods to eat. There are ways to teach agriculture producers to conserve water without having to restrict their water usage. California farmers for example are going through a tough time with conserving water. There is an abundance of water used in California to water the vegetables that are grown and produced there; promoting less water use can help us conserve water. Software as a Service Many years ago, to use software, businesses and organizations purchase traditionally packaged applications, such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop, and install them locally onto their computers. In the 1990 s, upon the expansion of the Internet, Application Service Provider (ASP) was introduced wherein businesses were provided with software that they can access over the Internetthrough a web browser. But then, service and financial failures occurred as a result of actions such as rushing the market offerings before issues were solved and failing to cut the costs for the customers at a greater extent because of having a unique server for each customer. Those scalability problems or the ability to adapt to increasing demands, and reliability problems eventually led to its downfall. Software as a Service(SaaS) or also known as on demand then evolved from the ASP model. With SaaS, software is not installed in the customer s computerbut in the provider s server somewhere else, and to access the software, the customer needs to connect to that server through either a thin client, which is a computer or a program that relies on another computer, or a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome. Basically, it is also a software delivery model. But unlike the ASP, it has increased user awareness and is a multi tenant based service which means that repairs, updates, and upgrades are applied once for all customers instead of one at a time, making ...
