The Road Not Taken is a poem about decisions in life and how each one leads onto
another road, spreading into a vast complexity of situations and life. The roads

He can only look so far though because you can not look into the far away future
hence the line To where it bent in the undergrowth . The bend means that you can not
look further than that certain point.
The second verse compares the two roads without knowing what the other contains.
He wanted to know what laid down the other road and compares the path he travelled
to the one he could have travelled.
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,

The first line means that he has decided to take a journey on one of the roads he
was pondering about. It also means that he could have just as easily taken the road
he did not take. In the second line it means that he thought the road he took would
be more interesting than the other, and having perhaps the better claim because it
was grassy and needed wear , which means that lesser people had been on that path
than the other. When a path has not been trodden on, it leaves plants and grass to
overgrow. So he took the road which was grassy because it was unusual compared to
the other path. He also thought that the path needed people to take it! (needed wear)

All around us, nature envelops our world and gives society a constant thrill for
adventure. The Alaskan wilderness has been described in John Muir s journal as a
place that you should never go to as a young man because you ll never be satisfied
with any other place as long as you live . Many people, such as a Chris McCandless
take this as a test of their bravery and curiosity and venture out into the foreign lands
only to die by their foolish decisions. Jon Krakauers Into the Wildportrays Chris
McCandless as being unprepared, stubborn, and carefree that eventually lead to
his death. McCandless failed to survive in the wilderness because he was very
unprepared and unaware of the harshness of the Alaskan wilderness. During Jim
Gallien, a union electrician and an accomplished hunter and woodsman, he states
that, Alex s backpack looked as though it weighs only twenty five or thirty pounds,
which struck Gallien as an improbably light load for a stay of several months in the
back country, especially so early in the spring (Krakauer 4). Throughout Chris s life,
everything has been handed to him and he has been mostly successful because of
the people who have served him. Though, when the first time McCandless is on his
own, people like Jim Gallien who have lived in Alaskafor many years can see that he

ABSTRACT
The research work is on determination of optimum dosage of soda ash or lime in
treating underground water in Makurdi metropolis. In the course of carrying out
the work, samples of borehole and well water from five different locations of the
study area (Makurdi) were obtained and analyzed in Benue State water works. The
sample were analyzed to ascertain the level of hardness in samples and to
determine the optimum values of soda ash (Na2CO3) and lime (Ca(OH)2) that will
be used in reducing hardness and treating the sample in the study area. The locations
were, North Bank, Wurukum, Wadata, High Level and Kanshio. The hardness level
in the study area was found to range from 200mg/L to 80mg/L averagely; this was
found to lay outside the WHO (1993) drinking water standards of 75mg/L to 100mg
/L. On analysis, the hardness was found to range from 76mg/L to 100mg/L
(borehole) at optimal level. Which was found to range within the WHO (1993)
drinking water standard. While for well, range from 20mg/L to 80mg/L at optimal

Gilmanton, New Hampshire and he soon would become the notorious Dr. H.H.
Holmes, Americas first Serial Killer. He was a small white male born into a devout
Methodist family. Holmes mother Theodate Page Price forced strict religious studies
while his father, Levi Horton Mudgett handed out the harsh, strong discipline. Holmes

at the age of eight with him starting to lie. His lies and scams grew along with his
