The powerpoint was put together for a unit meeting at the Division of Perceptual Studies at the University of Virginia. It included a 30 minute tour of various education builds in Second Life including a respiratory therapy class at the University of London sim, and the Jamestown and Powhattan Village builds on VSTE island. The AIPA Course link is not live as this course is no longer on the web. Otherwise all other links are live. 2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Establishment of virtual school programs. Requires the Superintendent of Public
Instruction to develop, and the Board of Education to approve, criteria for approving and
monitoring multi-division providers of online courses and virtual school programs. The bill also
allows local school boards to enter into contracts with approved private or nonprofit
organizations to provide such courses and programs; such contracts shall be exempt from the
Virginia Public Procurement Act. Any multi-division online provider operating prior to the
adoption of approval criteria by the Board may continue operating until such criteria are
adopted.

15. Welcome to I Am Not For On-Line Instruction
http://iamnotforonline.wikispaces.com
More and more technology is being pushed on public
education, specifically in Virginia recent legislation
was approved to establish approved vendors to offer
on-line instruction to replace the traditional
classroom instruction. This is the beginning of the
end of education as we know it. We can use
technology to aid instruction, but a full time program
just is not workable in Virginia's public schools.
Here are some real reasons why on-line instruction
will not work as a replacement for traditional
instruction.
16. Welcome to I AM FOR On-Line Instruction Wiki
http://iamforonline.wikispaces.com
The world around us is changing, no one can deny
this fact. Education must change as well. Technology
and computers will not replace education but can
support it in ways not thought possible in the past.
There are many ways to support learning through
technology. Here are some of the ways I believe we
can help students learn through technology and
specifically with on-line instruction.
However there are some key issues that must be
addressed in making sure that on-line technology is
successful.
