Further Research
I could try and find the
source where Matt O’Keefe
from Orwells says his piece
about The Arctic Monkeys
and how he found the
experience. This would help
me broaden my research
for this article by finding
supporting articles/videos
of him saying everything
that was put into the article
as this then backs up the
research that I did.

Summery
This article is a summery from one of their gigs at
the Verizon Theatre as one of the guitarists from
the supporting act (Orwells) critisised their
performance and the band itself and wasn’t
impressed. The journalist H. Drew Blackburn goes
through the songs in the order they were sang
and gets a reaction from what Alex Turner
thought of the criticism. It also expresses what
the journalist thinks of The Arctic Monkeys and
the performance they put on at the gig by saying
they proved they are the best band on the planet
from the performance they had given.

“They should have been out trying to get laid instead of watching us every night”
Quote from Alex Turner. Article by H. Drew Blackburn (From the Dallas Observer Blogs on
30th Oct 2014)
“So what if every show was the same? The Arctic Monkeys are the best rock band on the
planet and they proved it last night at the Verizon Theatre”
Quote from H. Drew Blackburn (From the Dallas Observer Blogs on 30th Oct 2014)
“Guitarist Matt O'Keefe called the band a “hip Backstreet Boys” and claimed that if you saw
a show once, then that's fine, nothing ever changes. It's Groundhog Day up there.”
Quote from H. Drew Blackburn (From the Dallas Observer Blogs on 30th Oct 2014)
Further Research
For further research I could
look at videos from several
venues from one of their
tours so I could get a sense
of what Matt O’Keefe is
saying and see if it’s true. I
could also look at articles to
get Alex Turner’s side of the
story and how he feels the
shows go and how the band
mates feel the show is
going as well with the
production too.

Summery
This article is to support my first article as it has
more of an interview between the journalist and
guitarist, Matt O’Keefe. He is explaining all the
good and bad points from supporting The Arctic
Monkeys but mainly goes into detail about how
the shows were exactly the same and had the
same production even in the bigger venues.
Compared to the last article, this one gives more
of Matt’s side to the story and there are a lot
more quotes to support the article rather than
the journalist explaining what had happened and
what was said and is a lot more unbiased.

Quotes
"When you're playing arenas and everything, it's a huge production then the show has to become
synchronised to work. Because you have all these people relying on these songs and this you're goin to
do here.”
Quote from Matt O’Keefe. Article by Edward Keeble and Andrew Trendell (From Gigwise on 16th Apr
2014)
"So every night no matter how he was feeling he'd go into that opening riff . It was the exact same ad-libs
he was putting between the songs. So we were with them for about 50 dates, you saw them once
and you'd pretty much seen every date that they'd played.”
Quote from Matt O’Keefe. Article by Edward Keeble and Andrew Trendell (From Gigwise on 16th Apr
2014)
"You can reach that level without turning into that," he said. "Like Nirvana played bigger shit than that
and I'm sure it wasn't like that and it's probably a different show every night. You don't have to take
that route, you can get that level of success with those size venues, that sort of thing but still treat it as
a spontaneous show at a small club.”
Quote from Mario Cuomo. Article by Edward Keeble and Andrew Trendell (From Gigwise on 16th Apr
2014)
"So it all just depends on the band, what they're going for and what they feel comfortable with. Like I
would feel super uncomfortable if I knew what I was going to say in between songs.”
Quote from Mario Cuomo. Article by Edward Keeble and Andrew Trendell (From Gigwise on 16th Apr

Further Research
For further research I could
look at different video
reactions from some of the
fans to see what they think
of the album. I could then
look at different peoples
opinions who might not be
as enthusiastic about the
album just to get different
views of different people. I
could also look at more
statistics about the album
(to do with the awards it
has won).

This article is basically summing up the AM
album written by The Arctic Monkeys. The
journalist goes into detail about the song order
and what the journalist thinks is the best songs.
He also goes into detail about the messages from
a few of the bands songs (“Do I Wanna Know and
R U Mine) and what he thinks The Arctic
Monkeys are trying to get across. At first in the
article, the journalist starts talking about some of
the background of the AM album and when it
was released and some of the awards it has won
so that the audience reading the article get a
sense of ‘how good’ this album is as this is what
the journalist is trying to get across. It then ends
by the journalist promoting the album by saying
how “enjoyable” and “near perfect” the album is.

For some further research, I
could try and find the full

this article only has one

the whole article is based

This would then give me

that they have released.

This article is part of an interview that the
journalist had with Alex Turner from The Arctic
Monkeys. He expresses how the band felt before
the AM album was released and he also
explained why they felt that way. The journalist
gives some background knowledge on where the
band was formed and how they got to where
they are today. It also lists the albums they have

This video is an interview in Toronto with Matt Schichter from MSN Entertainment about the band itself and how they
create music. The interview involves talking about how hard it is to keep music simple and they talk about the single
‘Do I Wanna Know’ a lot and the lyrics in the song. They also talk about if new people want to start listening to the
Arctic Monkeys then where should they start (what album they should listen to first) and they also talk about the
album Humbug and how it was a turning point for the Arctic Monkeys. The whole interview is really relaxed as there is
members of the public on the river who don’t know who they are and so they are just talking to them as if they were
just normal people so it becomes really relaxed and the journalist has a laugh with Alex Turner too. A lot of the public
are shouting for Alex and there is a lot of fans gathering around the river and it shows how popular they have got over
the years. It becomes a really laid back interview and is informal as well and besides talking about the Arctic Monkeys
themselves and their success they talk about things that they do generally (e.g. acting out romance novels and reads
them out too). They then discuss about the song ‘I Wanna Be Yours’ and they discuss the lyrics for the song and how
they came up with them and they discuss who taught Alex to start writing lyrics. At the end of the interview they do 5
quick questions which is about where they prefer to play and it just rounds the interview off in a simple way.

This whole web page is about the background of
the Arctic Monkeys and goes through all the

2014. It goes into detail about who is in the band
and when Andy Nicholson left the band early on
and where they have progressed since then. It
goes through the history of the band and how
they started out and it talks about the early
record deals and the early years of the Arctic
Monkeys. It then goes through every album they
have released and gone through the statistics on
the albums and how well they have done. It goes
into the band personnel, the awards they have
won over the time and it goes into detail about

Sheffield. The band consists of Alex Turner (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Jamie Cook (lead

Helders (drums, backing vocals).”
Quote from Wikipedia. About the Arctic Monkeys (Nov 11th 2014)
“The band's music is known to fall under the umbrella of indie rock although they have
changed their style of rock on each album, which is one of the band's key features. Musically
the band have expanded and altered their sound with each of their five albums making it
difficult to pin a description to their style.”

“Perhaps the key part of their sound and one that translates across their whole discography

This is the music video for the song ‘Why’d You Only Call
Me When You’re High?’. The music video is really easy to
understand and isn’t really complex as it links to the song
really well. Alex is in a pub with all his mates and is high off
drugs and is drinking excessively and ‘Do I Wanna Know’ is
playing in the background. He is then seen texting a girl
called Stephanie and then goes to the toilet and he then
starts to hallucinate by seeing double of himself in the
mirror and the clock ‘melting’. The song then starts to play
after he has taken multiple shots. He then stumbles
outside to go somewhere but all the way home he is
hallucinating and thinking he is seeing the girl Stephanie
having sex with other men who are just normal men
walking down the street. He then stumbles all the way
through the song to end up knocking at a house and
texting Stephanie to say he is outside her house. We then
find out he is at the wrong house as hers is opposite and at
the end of the video she is seen reading his texts and
slamming her phone down and walking away.

“Now it's three in the morning and I'm trying to change your mind. Left you multiple missed
calls and to my message you reply, Why'd you only call me when you're high?” Hi, why'd you
only call me when you're high?"
Quote from A-Z Lyrics. Lyrics from the song itself by Alex Turner.
“And I can't see you here wonder where I might? Sort of feels like I'm running out of time. I
haven't found what I was hoping to find. You said, "You gotta be up in the morning, gonna
have an early night. And you're starting to bore me, baby. Why'd you only call me when
you're high?”
Quote from A-Z Lyrics. Lyrics from the song itself by Alex Turner.
“The mirror's image, tells me it's home time. But I'm not finished, cause you're not by my
side. And as I arrived I thought I saw you leaving. Carrying your shoes. Decided that once
again I was just dreaming. Of bumping into you”

Primary Research
Evidence Of Uploads:
For my primary research I decided to upload a survey on survey monkey as this
would then give me enough information to do my primary research. I advertised
my survey by putting comments on peoples images on Pinterest and I also went
on the Arctic Monkeys forum site and put a post on that. I posted it on peoples
twitters and also put comments on the Arctic Moneys official website and I ended
up with a wide range of results which was useful. I wanted to try and get an idea
of what fans thought about the band and why they like them. I also wanted to get
a different range of responses from people. I did 10 questions all together and
they were all generally open questions that would give me enough detail if the
respondents answered them right and gave me enough detail.
Quotes:
“One For The Road. It truly is what it’s called.
One For The Road, it’s just an amazing car song
and although it isn’t as “lyrically talented” so to
say as many of their other songs, the
instruments stand out to me.”
“Their mysteriousness in a way, it makes them
magical.”
“I’m not really into being musically talented
myself so not necessarily, but as I’ve said, their
music is just so new sounding and so fresh yet
magical that I feel many people would be
inspired by them. Their songs are so simple
sometimes, but still so magical or beautiful with
sometimes a few silly lyrics yet it sounds so
amazing.”
Summary:
This survey was done by Alana from Scotland
and I found out that her favourite album was
‘Humbug’ because it sounds amazing to her. Her
favourite song off the AM album is ‘One For The
Road’ as she find it’s an amazing “car song” and
she finds the bands “mysteriousness”
interesting. I found that she doesn’t really find
them inspirational because she isn’t musically
talented herself but she knows that people will
find them inspirational if they want to go down
that path. She also wouldn’t want to see them
do a collaboration.

“Alex is my favourite one because of his voice,
the way he writes his songs, he’s a guitarist and
his attitude on stage is f*****g cool.”
“I discover their music about 2 years ago. I just
fell in love with Alex voice first and then I
discover the all discography and it hit me like a
truck in the face.”
“I love knee socks so much since the first
listening I don’t know how to explain, everything
in the song is so sensual.”
“There’s an evolution in their music, they’re
always trying new stuff and I like this idea. This is
not a boring band.”
Summary:
This survey was done by Laura from France. Her
favourite album is ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’
as she finds every song on the album pure gold.
Her favourite song from the AM album is ‘Knee
Socks’ as the song is “so sensual” and Alex is her
favourite member of the band because of his
voice, he plays the guitar and writes songs. She
finds the band inspirational as they’re geniuses
to her and if they did a collaboration she would
want it to be with Muse as it’s her favourite
band before Arctic Monkeys. Her survey isn’t as
detailed as the first one but it’s still got some
detail for me to work with.

Quotes:
“IT CHANGES.
Most consistently, probably Alex, because he is—I say
this hesitantly—the "genius" of the band, in that he
writes the lyrics and does much of the composing. He's
also cute, but they all are, so that's not really a
contributing factor.”
“Do I Wanna Know? is an obvious answer, as it was one
of the first songs we got to hear off the album, and it
propelled them to a certain stardom in the United
States, where I live. It has a slamming guitar riff,
interestingly delivered lyrics, and an epic outro. I'd also
say Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High, as it's
just funky and quite different from anything they'd ever
done before.”
“Most consistently, probably Humbug, because it is
short, has an ethereal, dreamy quality that appeals to
me.”
Summary:
This survey was done by Morgana from the United
States. Her survey was really detailed and I was really
interested in her answers as she explained her points
clearly and went into depth with her answers. Her
favourite member of the band is Alex but it can change
and her favourite album is most consistently “Humbug”
but again it can change. She finds the band inspirational
as she has played the guitar since she was 15 because of
them and they are the soundtracks to her school years.
Her favourite song from the AM album is “Do I Wanna
Know” because it was the first song she heard from it.

Arctic Monkeys songs.”
“Mad Sounds doesn't exactly fit the rest of the album's
feel.
R U Mine? - while I still do not consider it a song from
the AM era, but as a non Album single between albums.
It sparked excitement after Suck It and See's softer
approach.”
“Tom Rowley - Touring Keyboard Player - because of
Dead Sons and Milburn.
Actual band member - Nick - seems the most genuine”
“As a beginner-amateur guitar player I think anyone who
can make a living playing music is inspirational.”
Summary:
This survey was done by Andrew from the United States.
His favourite album is “Humbug” as it’s the only album
he can listen to all the songs without skipping them. His
favourite songs off the AM album are “R U Mine?” as it
sparked excitement and “Mad Sounds” as it doesn’t fit
with the rest of the album so it stands out to him. He
heard the Arctic Monkeys by a friend in 2008 and in
2010 he listened to their music a lot and his opinions
about them kept changing but he is now a big fan of
them. He would like them to do more work with Josh
Homme as they have a similar sound and he finds that
the tunes are solid and simple but this is interesting to
him.

is the band that inspires me most to that dream.”

“amazing” and gives him Goosebumps. His favourite
band member is Alex because he is the most important
band member as he is the main vocalist and he is a very
interesting person. He discovered their music in 2009
when “Humbug” had come out and he finds the
songwriting inspirational as he has always dreamed of
being a Rockstar so they inspire him to dream. He would
like to see the band collaborate with The Stokes as he
has dreamed of them both being on the same stage.

Quotes:
“Humbug. It's their stoner rock phase. As a great fan of
stoner, desert rock, I tend to prefer Humbug to their
other albums for this reason. Humbug is Arctic Monkeys'
best phase considering the whole experience, in my
opinion: the sum of the music, the looks, the ambiance,
the lyrics. Everything falls in place.”
“Probably Knee Socks. I have never listened to a song
that sounds like Knee Socks so far. The guitar riff is
absolutely genius, and the whole song is a complete,
different, package. Coming from a band like AM, it's
even more impressive.”
“Jamie Cook. He's the one that most resembles me, in
my opinion. He doesn't speak unless it's utterly
necessary, and it looks like he really enjoys what he
does.”
Summary:
This survey was done by Mateus from Brazil. This is
another person who’s favourite album is “Humbug”. He
finds this album their “stoner rock phase” and he finds
this their best phase. His favourite song off the AM
album is “Knee Socks” as the guitar riff to him is
“absolutely genius” and the whole song is a different
package. The band is always changing and finding new
things and they never get used to one ting and this is
what he finds interesting about the band. His favourite
member is Jamie Cook as it resembles himself a lot. He
would like to see them collaborate with Royal Blood as
they would bring back the Arctic Monkeys “heaviness”
which is what Mateus misses from the Arctic Monkeys.

Quotes:
“Definitely, I feel they've made the music they wanted to
make and constantly changed up their style where other
bands would have just mined their original formula to
death.”
“Late 2005 when they had their first number 1 single, I
was 12 at the time and my friends and I fell in love with
them. They felt more real than other stuff we'd heard
and they were the band that gave us a genuine interest
in music, beyond passively listening to whatever was on
the radio at the time.”
“Alex, he's the heart and soul of the band and finest
lyricist of his generation.”
“Jack White might be interesting with their current
direction.”
Summary:
This survey was done by Jonathan from England. His
favourite band member is Alex as he’s the “heart and
soul” of the band. His favourite album is “Favourite
Worst Nightmare” because it’s their best in his opinion
and works for him. His favourite song from the AM
album is “R U Mine” because this is the song he would
show people if they were new to the album. He finds
the lyrics the most interesting about the band and he
would like to see the band collaborate with Jack White
because it would be interesting with their “current
direction”. He started listening to the band in 2005 when
they had their first No. 1 single and he instantly fell in
love with them and so did his friends at the time.

Quotes:
“Alex, not because he's hot (don't get me wrong, he is)
but because he is one of the greatest songwriters of our
generation, some have said. The way he constructs
songs and chooses his words are very intelligent. Also, as
the head of the band, he's directed them in every
direction, and I think he's done a great job.”
“Humbug, it's lyricism is so well crafted, and each song is
different but similar to the last. Also, the desert rock
vibe fits the lyrics perfectly.”
“How they've stayed true to their roots. They all play the
same instruments, all look relatively the same, and still
talk like they would back in Sheffield. They haven't let
the popularity and fame change how they want to make
their music.”
Summary:
This survey was done by Roman from the United States.
He doesn’t find the band inspirational music wise but he
does in their style and how they look and he wouldn’t
want to see them collaborate with anyone as they work
better alone. He discovered them at the end of 2013 as
he found all the songs from the AM album catchy and
got stuck in his head for hours. His favourite song from
the AM album is “Knee Socks” as the bass riff is “very
smooth” and it never gets old to him. His favourite
album is Humbug as the lyrics are well crafted and each
song is different but can be similar to the last. His
favourite member is Alex because he is one of the
greatest songwriters of our generation.

Quotes:
“Though Humbug is close, Suck it and See, because it's
the band at its most relaxed. It's a funny, poppy album,
with a fast-paced, energetic first half, and a beautiful,
ballad heavy second half. The production is great - thick
and organic, and it showcases some of Alex Turner's best
songwriting, particularly lyrically.”
“Yes, because they've shown that any four lads from
anywhere in the world can pick up instruments, and one
day become the biggest act on the planet.”
“Alex Turner, because he seems like a genuinely humble
person, doesn't forget his roots, and is a lyrical genius.
His timidness reminds me of myself.”
“I like, and appreciate, how the band have changed their
sound with every album.”
Summary:
This survey was done by Ryan from Canada. He has
always dreamt on an Alex Turner, Paul McCartney, Thom
Yorke and Win Butler super group and he believes they
are all “great songwriters”. He finds the band
inspirational and his favourite song off the ‘AM’ album is
‘Knee Socks’ and it’s really grown on him since they
released the album. He also likes the hard guitar hooks
of ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ and ‘Arabella’ and he also likes
the “heavy, hip-hop bass” of ‘Why’d You Only Call Me
When Your High?’. His favourite album is ‘Suck It And
See’ because it’s a really relaxed and funny album with a
fast-paced, energetic first half and a heavy second half.
He also loves how the band changed their sound.

Quotes:
“Whatever People Say I am, That's What I'm Not.
Though "punky" and heavy, this album manages to give
a clean feeling all the way through. It's well put together
beats, chord changes, vocals and lyrics make it an
upbeat, yet naughty album which I think really describes
not only the Arctic Monkeys and their origins, but also a
common teenager.”
“I sadly discovered them late; last year right when AM
came out. It was on iTunes and I downloaded "Do I
Wanna Know?". From that, I took off. Their music has
such a lovey-dovey vibe dipped in coolness that it is hard
to resist that classic Arctic Monkeys' sound. Not to
mention their accents played a role too.”
“No one, if I want them to collaborate with another
band then they wouldn't be my favorite”
Summary:
This survey was done by Stephen from the USA. His
favourite album is ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s
What I’m Not’ as it’s well put together makes it and
upbeat but naughty album. He would like to see a
collaboration with an artist but he thinks that they
deserve every ounce of fame they have and work better
on their own and his favourite song off the ‘AM’ album is
‘No. 1 Party Anthem’ because he feels that this song
describes the album and that popped out to him
immediately they keep the album ‘cool, calm and
collective’. He only discovered the Arctic Monkeys when
the album ‘AM’ came out (2013) but from there he
hasn’t stopped listening to them and loves the band.

Further Research Icould try and find the source where Matt O’Keefe from Orwells says his piece about The Arctic Monkeys and how he found the experience. This would help me broaden my research for this article by finding supporting articles/videos of him saying everything that was put into the article as this then backs up the research that I did. Dallas Observer Blogs (Oct 30th 2014) - http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/dc9/2014/10/arctic_monkeys_verizon_theatre_review.php Summery This article is a summery from one of their gigs at the Verizon Theatre as one of the guitarists from the supporting act (Orwells) critisised their performance and the band itself and wasn’t impressed. The journalist H. Drew Blackburn goes through the songs in the order they were sang and gets a reaction from what Alex Turner thought of the criticism. It also expresses what the journalist thinks of The Arctic Monkeys and the performance they put on at the gig by saying they proved they are the best band on the planet from the performance they had given. The Arctic Monkeys are the best rock band on the planet and they proved it last night at the Verizon Theatre” Quote from H. Drew Blackburn (From the Dallas Observer Blogs on 30th Oct 2014) “Guitarist Matt O'Keefe called the band a “hip Backstreet Boys” and claimed that if you saw a show once, then that's fine, nothing ever changes. Further Research Forfurther research I could look at videos from several venues from one of their tours so I could get a sense of what Matt O’Keefe is saying and see if it’s true. I could also look at articles to get Alex Turner’s side of the story and how he feels the shows go and how the band mates feel the show is going as well with the production too. Gigwise (Apr 16th 2014) – http://www.gigwise.com/news/90254/the-orwells-on-repetitive-arctic-monkeys-live-shows Summery This article is to support my first article as it has more of an interview between the journalist and guitarist, Matt O’Keefe. He is explaining all the good and bad points from supporting The Arctic Monkeys but mainly goes into detail about how the shows were exactly the same and had the same production even in the bigger venues. Compared to the last article, this one gives more of Matt’s side to the story and there are a lot more quotes to support the article rather than the journalist explaining what had happened and what was said and is a lot more unbiased. Quotes "When you'replaying arenas and everything, it's a huge production then the show has to become synchronised to work. Because you have all these people relying on these songs and this you're goin to do here.” Quote from Matt O’Keefe. Article by Edward Keeble and Andrew Trendell (From Gigwise on 16th Apr 2014) "So every night no matter how he was feeling he'd go into that opening riff . It was the exact same ad-libs he was putting between the songs. So we were with them for about 50 dates, you saw them once and you'd pretty much seen every date that they'd played.” Quote from Matt O’Keefe. Article by Edward Keeble and Andrew Trendell (From Gigwise on 16th Apr 2014) "You can reach that level without turning into that," he said. "Like Nirvana played bigger shit than that and I'm sure it wasn't like that and it's probably a different show every night. You don't have to take that route, you can get that level of success with those size venues, that sort of thing but still treat it as a spontaneous show at a small club.” Quote from Mario Cuomo. Article by Edward Keeble and Andrew Trendell (From Gigwise on 16th Apr 2014) "So it all just depends on the band, what they're going for and what they feel comfortable with. Further Research Forfurther research I could look at different video reactions from some of the fans to see what they think of the album. I could then look at different peoples opinions who might not be as enthusiastic about the album just to get different views of different people. I could also look at more statistics about the album (to do with the awards it has won). He also goes into detail about the messages from a few of the bands songs (“Do I Wanna Know and R U Mine) and what he thinks The Arctic Monkeys are trying to get across. At first in the article, the journalist starts talking about some of the background of the AM album and when it was released and some of the awards it has won so that the audience reading the article get a sense of ‘how good’ this album is as this is what the journalist is trying to get across. Further Research Forsome further research, I could try and find the full interview if there is one as this article only has one quote from Alex Turner and the whole article is based on an interview that he did. Further Research Tolook further into this, I could watch other videos that have been based on interviewing the Arctic Monkeys. In this interview Matt Schichter quoted from another interview that they were in so I could have a look at that video interview so I could get a better understanding of what Matt Schichter is trying to get that. (From YouTube – Jul 21st 2014) YouTube (Jul 21st 2014) – https://www.youtube. com/watch?v=APk4I0s Nsn8 Summery This video is an interview in Toronto with Matt Schichter from MSN Entertainment about the band itself and how they create music. The interview involves talking about how hard it is to keep music simple and they talk about the single ‘Do I Wanna Know’ a lot and the lyrics in the song. They also talk about if new people want to start listening to the Arctic Monkeys then where should they start (what album they should listen to first) and they also talk about the album Humbug and how it was a turning point for the Arctic Monkeys. The whole interview is really relaxed as there is members of the public on the river who don’t know who they are and so they are just talking to them as if they were just normal people so it becomes really relaxed and the journalist has a laugh with Alex Turner too. A lot of the public are shouting for Alex and there is a lot of fans gathering around the river and it shows how popular they have got over the years. It becomes a really laid back interview and is informal as well and besides talking about the Arctic Monkeys themselves and their success they talk about things that they do generally (e.g. acting out romance novels and reads them out too). They then discuss about the song ‘I Wanna Be Yours’ and they discuss the lyrics for the song and how they came up with them and they discuss who taught Alex to start writing lyrics. At the end of the interview they do 5 quick questions which is about where they prefer to play and it just rounds the interview off in a simple way. Summery This isthe music video for the song ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?’. The music video is really easy to understand and isn’t really complex as it links to the song really well. Alex is in a pub with all his mates and is high off drugs and is drinking excessively and ‘Do I Wanna Know’ is playing in the background. He is then seen texting a girl called Stephanie and then goes to the toilet and he then starts to hallucinate by seeing double of himself in the mirror and the clock ‘melting’. The song then starts to play after he has taken multiple shots. He then stumbles outside to go somewhere but all the way home he is hallucinating and thinking he is seeing the girl Stephanie having sex with other men who are just normal men walking down the street. He then stumbles all the way through the song to end up knocking at a house and texting Stephanie to say he is outside her house. We then find out he is at the wrong house as hers is opposite and at the end of the video she is seen reading his texts and slamming her phone down and walking away. I advertised my survey by putting comments on peoples images on Pinterest and I also went on the Arctic Monkeys forum site and put a post on that. I posted it on peoples twitters and also put comments on the Arctic Moneys official website and I ended up with a wide range of results which was useful. I wanted to try and get an idea of what fans thought about the band and why they like them. I also wanted to get a different range of responses from people. I did 10 questions all together and they were all generally open questions that would give me enough detail if the respondents answered them right and gave me enough detail.

One For The Road, it’s just an amazing car song and although it isn’t as “lyrically talented” so to say as many of their other songs, the instruments stand out to me.” “Their mysteriousness in a way, it makes them magical.” “I’m not really into being musically talented myself so not necessarily, but as I’ve said, their music is just so new sounding and so fresh yet magical that I feel many people would be inspired by them. Their songs are so simple sometimes, but still so magical or beautiful with sometimes a few silly lyrics yet it sounds so amazing.” Summary: This survey was done by Alana from Scotland and I found out that her favourite album was ‘Humbug’ because it sounds amazing to her. Her favourite song off the AM album is ‘One For The Road’ as she find it’s an amazing “car song” and she finds the bands “mysteriousness” interesting. I found that she doesn’t really find them inspirational because she isn’t musically talented herself but she knows that people will find them inspirational if they want to go down that path. She also wouldn’t want to see them do a collaboration. Tags: Arctic Monkeys, Scotland, Humbug, Alana, One For The Road, magical, Last Shadow Puppets, beautiful, amazing, AM

Quotes: “Alex ismy favourite one because of his voice, the way he writes his songs, he’s a guitarist and his attitude on stage is f*****g cool.” “I discover their music about 2 years ago. I just fell in love with Alex voice first and then I discover the all discography and it hit me like a truck in the face.” “I love knee socks so much since the first listening I don’t know how to explain, everything in the song is so sensual.” “There’s an evolution in their music, they’re always trying new stuff and I like this idea. This is not a boring band.” Summary: This survey was done by Laura from France. Her favourite album is ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’ as she finds every song on the album pure gold. Her favourite song from the AM album is ‘Knee Socks’ as the song is “so sensual” and Alex is her favourite member of the band because of his voice, he plays the guitar and writes songs. She finds the band inspirational as they’re geniuses to her and if they did a collaboration she would want it to be with Muse as it’s her favourite band before Arctic Monkeys. Her survey isn’t as detailed as the first one but it’s still got some detail for me to work with. Quotes: “IT CHANGES. Most consistently, probably Alex, because he is—I say this hesitantly—the "genius" of the band, in that he writes the lyrics and does much of the composing. He's also cute, but they all are, so that's not really a contributing factor.” “Do I Wanna Know? is an obvious answer, as it was one of the first songs we got to hear off the album, and it propelled them to a certain stardom in the United States, where I live. It has a slamming guitar riff, interestingly delivered lyrics, and an epic outro. I'd also say Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High, as it's just funky and quite different from anything they'd ever done before.” “Most consistently, probably Humbug, because it is short, has an ethereal, dreamy quality that appeals to me.” Summary: This survey was done by Morgana from the United States. Her survey was really detailed and I was really interested in her answers as she explained her points clearly and went into depth with her answers. Her favourite member of the band is Alex but it can change and her favourite album is most consistently “Humbug” but again it can change. She finds the band inspirational as she has played the guitar since she was 15 because of them and they are the soundtracks to her school years. Her favourite song from the AM album is “Do I Wanna Know” because it was the first song she heard from it. Quotes: “Humbug -It's the only album that doesn't have a track that I would skip if I was playing a random playlist of all Arctic Monkeys songs.” “Mad Sounds doesn't exactly fit the rest of the album's feel. R U Mine? - while I still do not consider it a song from the AM era, but as a non Album single between albums. It sparked excitement after Suck It and See's softer approach.” “Tom Rowley - Touring Keyboard Player - because of Dead Sons and Milburn. Actual band member - Nick - seems the most genuine” “As a beginner-amateur guitar player I think anyone who can make a living playing music is inspirational.” Summary: This survey was done by Andrew from the United States. His favourite album is “Humbug” as it’s the only album he can listen to all the songs without skipping them. His favourite songs off the AM album are “R U Mine?” as it sparked excitement and “Mad Sounds” as it doesn’t fit with the rest of the album so it stands out to him. He heard the Arctic Monkeys by a friend in 2008 and in 2010 he listened to their music a lot and his opinions about them kept changing but he is now a big fan of them. He would like them to do more work with Josh Homme as they have a similar sound and he finds that the tunes are solid and simple but this is interesting to him. Quotes: “The factthat they always try to be original, by changing their style with each album. I also love the fact that they are able to make both dead serious songs with a deep meaning while still being able to have a laugh with songs like Brick By Brick and 2013” “I discovered them in 2009 right after Humbug came out. The song Crying Lightning is what drew me in. But the first album by them I really loved was Favourite Worst Nightmare, really catchy!” “I think their songwriting is very inspirational, I also kind of have a dream of becoming a Rockstar, Arctic Monkeys is the band that inspires me most to that dream.” “Its always been a dream to see Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes on the same stage...” Summary: This survey was done by Peter from Norway. Quotes: “Humbug. It'stheir stoner rock phase. As a great fan of stoner, desert rock, I tend to prefer Humbug to their other albums for this reason. Humbug is Arctic Monkeys' best phase considering the whole experience, in my opinion: the sum of the music, the looks, the ambiance, the lyrics. Everything falls in place.” “Probably Knee Socks. I have never listened to a song that sounds like Knee Socks so far. The guitar riff is absolutely genius, and the whole song is a complete, different, package. Coming from a band like AM, it's even more impressive.” “Jamie Cook. He's the one that most resembles me, in my opinion. He doesn't speak unless it's utterly necessary, and it looks like he really enjoys what he does.” Summary: This survey was done by Mateus from Brazil. This is another person who’s favourite album is “Humbug”. He finds this album their “stoner rock phase” and he finds this their best phase. His favourite song off the AM album is “Knee Socks” as the guitar riff to him is “absolutely genius” and the whole song is a different package. The band is always changing and finding new things and they never get used to one ting and this is what he finds interesting about the band. His favourite member is Jamie Cook as it resembles himself a lot. He would like to see them collaborate with Royal Blood as they would bring back the Arctic Monkeys “heaviness” which is what Mateus misses from the Arctic Monkeys. Quotes: “Definitely, Ifeel they've made the music they wanted to make and constantly changed up their style where other bands would have just mined their original formula to death.” “Late 2005 when they had their first number 1 single, I was 12 at the time and my friends and I fell in love with them. They felt more real than other stuff we'd heard and they were the band that gave us a genuine interest in music, beyond passively listening to whatever was on the radio at the time.” “Alex, he's the heart and soul of the band and finest lyricist of his generation.” “Jack White might be interesting with their current direction.” Summary: This survey was done by Jonathan from England. His favourite band member is Alex as he’s the “heart and soul” of the band. His favourite album is “Favourite Worst Nightmare” because it’s their best in his opinion and works for him. His favourite song from the AM album is “R U Mine” because this is the song he would show people if they were new to the album. He finds the lyrics the most interesting about the band and he would like to see the band collaborate with Jack White because it would be interesting with their “current direction”. He started listening to the band in 2005 when they had their first No. 1 single and he instantly fell in love with them and so did his friends at the time. Quotes: “Alex, notbecause he's hot (don't get me wrong, he is) but because he is one of the greatest songwriters of our generation, some have said. The way he constructs songs and chooses his words are very intelligent. Also, as the head of the band, he's directed them in every direction, and I think he's done a great job.” “Humbug, it's lyricism is so well crafted, and each song is different but similar to the last. Also, the desert rock vibe fits the lyrics perfectly.” “How they've stayed true to their roots. They all play the same instruments, all look relatively the same, and still talk like they would back in Sheffield. They haven't let the popularity and fame change how they want to make their music.” Summary: This survey was done by Roman from the United States. He doesn’t find the band inspirational music wise but he does in their style and how they look and he wouldn’t want to see them collaborate with anyone as they work better alone. He discovered them at the end of 2013 as he found all the songs from the AM album catchy and got stuck in his head for hours. His favourite song from the AM album is “Knee Socks” as the bass riff is “very smooth” and it never gets old to him. His favourite album is Humbug as the lyrics are well crafted and each song is different but can be similar to the last. His favourite member is Alex because he is one of the greatest songwriters of our generation. Quotes: “Though Humbugis close, Suck it and See, because it's the band at its most relaxed. It's a funny, poppy album, with a fast-paced, energetic first half, and a beautiful, ballad heavy second half. The production is great - thick and organic, and it showcases some of Alex Turner's best songwriting, particularly lyrically.” “Yes, because they've shown that any four lads from anywhere in the world can pick up instruments, and one day become the biggest act on the planet.” “Alex Turner, because he seems like a genuinely humble person, doesn't forget his roots, and is a lyrical genius. His timidness reminds me of myself.” “I like, and appreciate, how the band have changed their sound with every album.” Summary: This survey was done by Ryan from Canada. He has always dreamt on an Alex Turner, Paul McCartney, Thom Yorke and Win Butler super group and he believes they are all “great songwriters”. He finds the band inspirational and his favourite song off the ‘AM’ album is ‘Knee Socks’ and it’s really grown on him since they released the album. He also likes the hard guitar hooks of ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ and ‘Arabella’ and he also likes the “heavy, hip-hop bass” of ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When Your High?’. His favourite album is ‘Suck It And See’ because it’s a really relaxed and funny album with a fast-paced, energetic first half and a heavy second half. He also loves how the band changed their sound. Quotes: “Whatever PeopleSay I am, That's What I'm Not. Though "punky" and heavy, this album manages to give a clean feeling all the way through. It's well put together beats, chord changes, vocals and lyrics make it an upbeat, yet naughty album which I think really describes not only the Arctic Monkeys and their origins, but also a common teenager.” “I sadly discovered them late; last year right when AM came out. It was on iTunes and I downloaded "Do I Wanna Know?". From that, I took off. Their music has such a lovey-dovey vibe dipped in coolness that it is hard to resist that classic Arctic Monkeys' sound. Not to mention their accents played a role too.” “No one, if I want them to collaborate with another band then they wouldn't be my favorite” Summary: This survey was done by Stephen from the USA. His favourite album is ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ as it’s well put together makes it and upbeat but naughty album. He would like to see a collaboration with an artist but he thinks that they deserve every ounce of fame they have and work better on their own and his favourite song off the ‘AM’ album is ‘No. 1 Party Anthem’ because he feels that this song describes the album and that popped out to him immediately they keep the album ‘cool, calm and collective’. He only discovered the Arctic Monkeys when the album ‘AM’ came out (2013) but from there he hasn’t stopped listening to them and loves the band.
