The study examined the impact of nitrogen fertilizer rates and maize varieties on profitability in northern Ghana, revealing that a higher application of 90 kg/ha nitrogen significantly improved grain yield, gross margins, and benefit-cost ratios. Farmers preferred this higher rate, and specific varieties like dt sr w c0 f2 and tzee w str qpm co showed better performance. Results will inform future agricultural initiatives under the Africa Rising project aimed at enhancing food security and income for smallholder farmers.
