The Korean War began in 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea, leading the United States to lead a United Nations force to defend South Korea. As the UN forces advanced towards China, China entered the war by sending its army to fight the UN troops. Heavy fighting occurred and Truman considered using nuclear weapons. Truman eventually fired General MacArthur when he wanted to expand the war. After long negotiations, an armistice was signed in 1953 ending the fighting, but no peace treaty was ever signed.
