Impact Of The Land Administration Projects
Changes in Customary Land Administration and Building Synergy in Pluralistic Institutional
Environment in Sub Sahara Africa: Examining the Impact of the Land Administration Projects (LAP)
in Ghana
Research Background and Problem
Plurality of institutions is a unique feature of the land administration system in Africa. This system is
characterized by the operations of traditional landholding institutions that have been in existence and
has been holding land time immemorial on ground of ancestry together with statutory established
formal land agencies that is required to complement efforts of the former. Traditional institutions in
some countries continue to play key role in the system, despite widespread implementation of the
formalization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is argued that multiple institutional and legal structures could bring about contradictions and
insecurity regarding whose rights count, whose rights will be supported in the event of a contest, and
which decision making structures are paramount resulting in institution shopping (Toulmin, 2009). In
Ghana, the pluralism systems are poorly articulated and has been the cause of growing contradiction
and conflict (Kasanga and Kotey, 2001). This can be substantiated by studies from Yeboah and Shaw
(2011) that find the traditional institutions are making makeshift plans in order to sell lands even
without the knowledge of the appropriate planning authority. Also, Biitir and Nara (2016) finds that
land governance in Ghana is hampered by lack of cooperation and collaboration between these
institutions. The state of the pure distinct operations of the customary and statutory land tenure
institutions therefore denies synergistic effect (Cousin and Hornby, 2005).
In the wake of the aforementioned factors and address resulting problems, previous and present
governments of Ghana have made attempts to streamline the system through land policies and
projects. The Land Administration Projects (LAP) is currently being implemented (Government of
Ghana, 2008). This

Stressors In Rwanda
Many situations and acts that are unacceptable need a stressor. Stressors are situations and/or events
that lead to a catastrophic outcome, such as the Rwanda genocide. The tension between both the Hutu
and Tutsi already existed; it only needed something to reach its breaking point a stressor. On April 6,
1994, the plane that occupied Juvenal Habyarimana, President of Rwanda, and Cyprien Ntaryamina,
President of Burundi crashed due to unexplained circumstances. Over the next three months in
Rwanda after the crash carrying both Presidents, mass killings began to occur. The kill count
escaladed dramatically leaving one million Rwandans dead and two million seeking refugee status
among its neighbors: Zaire, Tanzania, and Burundi (Kellow and ... Show more content on

In the beginning Radio Libre de Mille Collines (RTLM) was not the main source of media coverage,
Radio Rwanda was considered the official government station. Thanks to President Habyarimana,
Radio Rwanda had been able to broadcast, using the palace directly across the street from the station
as a direct line in case the power failed. RTLM managed to gain access to this direct line that
gradually faded out Radio Rwanda s signals to a minimal broadcasting network. Through this Radio
Rwanda had minimal influence and responsibility over the inflammatory messages RTLM broadcasted
making them the main voice of ethnic hatred (Kellow and Steeves 1998, 118). The main source for
inflammatory comments and snide remarks situated from RTLM. The stations continuous references
and language such as vigilant, fight or kill, defend, and/or exterminate only aided in fanning the
flames during the times of low genocide when the kill count dropped in numbers. The constant
reference to inyenzi (or cockroach a term used to describe Tutsi rebels and Tutsi civilians) directed its
comments to a particular group, the Tutsi (Straus 2007, 623).
Radio can only be deemed effective if there is an audience to broadcast towards. If there is no
audience radio broadcasting becomes pointless and ineffective. Its effectiveness is achieved through
their popularity and through viewers acceptance of what is being presented.
RTLM immediately attracted a large audience, especially

Racism And Discrimination In Nebraska
Racism has been a core problem in the United States of America ever since the country was founded
two centuries ago. The country has repeatedly seen discrimination against the black Community by
the hands of the White community. Along with time, this racial discrimination based on color has been
reduced through extensive programs and new ideologies by state run programs as well as by programs
that are federally funded. However, the same cannot be said for the state of Nebraska. This is because
Nebraska has stated representatives who are racist against the Black Community, educational institutes
where racism is at an all time high, and societies in state cities where racism continues to be tolerated
by the vast majority of people who live in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Racism in educational institutes of Nebraska is higher than one could ever expect it to be. Children are
bullied on the basis of their skin color, they are degraded for the same reasons, and academic success
often befalls the white community rather than the black community in such academic institutions
because the black community is perceived as undeserving in the manner. Even the chancellor of
Nebraska has admitted that he has witnessed racism in his own university and that there should be
more done in order to excuse such racism and prevent it from happening ever again (Howard, 2015).
This revelation and admittance came out after the UNL University had discovered increasing racism
among students and faculty staff against the black community that persisted in the

Advantages Of A Feather Pillow
Choosing the most comfortable feather pillow
Getting a good night s sleep is an important part of maintaining not only your physical health, but also
your mental health. Experts have established that people who sleep inadequately have a weaker
immune system than those who have adequate sleep. Hence getting a good night s sleep becomes
important. Having a pillow that allows you to rest your head in comfort will allow you to sleep
adequately and comfortably. For those seeking a fluffy, soft pillow filled with natural materials, a
feather pillow fits these requirements in full. Considering the vast majority of feather pillow types and
manufactures, it gives one a headache just to select a pillow good enough to guarantee a good night s
sleep. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Down
Pillows come stuffed with either feathers or down, or a mixture of the two. Down is the cotton like
insulation underneath the hard feathers that keeps a bird cozy, comfy and warm. These feathers are
very soft and fluffy, as compared to the bird s outer feathers which are harder with sharp quills. The
best feather pillows hence contain 100%. Generally, pure down pillows are of higher quality and
comfort than other feather pillows and tend to stay comfy longer. Higher quality pillows come with a
warranty from the manufacturer, so you ll give a peace of your mind (and even get a replacement!) if
your pillow doesn t function well enough.
The Fluff Factor and pillow Fluffiness
How fluffy a pillow is depends on the Fill Power of the pillow. According to the Down Feather
Company Fill power tells us the amount of space that an ounce of the down will fill in cubic inches
inside the pillow. A higher fill power indicates that the pillow contains down from a more mature bird.
This down is larger than that from a younger bird. Larger down feathers mean more loft or height to
the pillow.
Typically :
 Higher fill power = Greater fluffiness
 Higher fill power= Greater

An Analysis Of Stephen Pax Leonard s So You Think They Can...
How many ways of referring to ice exist in the language used by the Polar Eskimos? The answer may
surprise since compared to the dominant languages, in which the concept of ice is described by a
single word, the Polar Eskimos have more than twenty times that number. Despite apparent
uniqueness of this language, it is likely that no one will use in a relatively short time as globalization
whips out minority languages leaving only a few with a chance to survive. In the essay, Death by
Monoculture, Stephen Pax Leonard argues that this deprivation in the realm of languages is going to
lead to a dull world (Leonard 148). In contrast, Jeff Chang, an author of So You Think They Can

Nowadays, Korean b boys are entrenched in the culture of the break dance affiliating themselves with

What Is The Cultural Context Of The Happiest Millionaire
I will be using the 1967 movie musical The Happiest Millionaire, directed by Norman Tokar, to
demonstrate group communication theories by examining the transitions taking place within the
Biddle family, and how these transitions become apparent through the family s interactions with new
groups of individuals.
Rather than recognizing that an organization has a culture, it can be argued that an organization is a
culture. This means that communication occurs in a unique cultural context, which the organization
establishes for itself. Regarded as a soft science, the cultural approach is a more interpretive form of
analysis, and is understood through the sharing of personal, collegial, and corporate stories, as well as
the ritualistic tendencies of the organization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Biddle and the members of the Biddle Bible Study use these practices to create a culture that is
dependent upon the connection between physical exercise and spiritual understanding. Mr. Biddle uses
corporate stories and rituals to express the ideologies of the group, the most important being that
everyone can and should be both physically and spiritually strong, regardless of gender, size, or age.
In one scene, Mr. Biddle is visited by a small group of young military men who are interested in using
his bible study methods to train their recruits. However, after explaining his corporate ideology, the
men inform him that he is too old to train the men himself, so he challenges one of the young men to a
boxing match, which he promptly wins. This match helped Mr. Biddle demonstrate that the unique
culture of the Biddle Bible Study cannot be truly duplicated by anyone but himself.
These fantasies then trigger a fantasy chain, a reaction in which group members contribute their own
fantasy themes in order to establish shared meaning. This theme can be recalled by a symbolic queue,
therefore extending and memorializing this momentary

As I Reflect On The Process Of Writing This Rhetoric Analytic
As I reflect on the process of writing this rhetoric analytic research paper on two different scholarly
educational articles from different educational journals, I realize that this was the most difficult paper

how to do it until we were granted the rhetoric worksheets. It was a challenge writing this paper
because prior to the peer review, I did not choose the appropriate articles. I had two from the same
journal because I did not read the directions thoroughly. Also, organizing the paper was difficult
because I was not sure how to exactly write a rhetoric paper on articles. After the peer review, I

Although these two articles are scholarly and educational, they do differ in conditions like the articles
context, the overall purpose of the articles, and the articles exigency, or relevancy.
The scholarly article, Dressed and Groomed for Success in Elementary School Student Appearance
and Academic Adjustment is written by Caroline Fitzpatrick, Carolyn Cote Lussier, and Clancy Blair.
This scholarly, peer reviewed article is about how instructor s negative perceptions, biases, and
academic adjustments for their students can not only hinder student s potential in the classroom, but
also their outlook on schools, specifically in elementary grades.
The second scholarly article, Critical Race Theory and Whiteness of Teacher Education is written by
Christine E. Sleeter. This article is about how teacher education can be changed by addressing the
Whiteness within it and how the targeted audience can be challenged.
Due to the fact that the articles are different, then the purposes for these articles differ. The purpose of
the first article is to see how theory and research suggest that students academic experiences are likely
to be associated with their general appearance and demeanor (Fitpatrick et al. 32). It is to inform the
audience of teachers and policy makers, on how teachers are pre judging their students based off of
their initial appearance and relating that to their competence at school. Teachers are creating

Labour Force In Canada
The term labour force consists of persons who contribute or are available to contribute to the
production of goods and services falling within the System of National Accounts production boundary
(Statistics Canada, 2017). According to Canada s first decennial census, the work force was meant to
include anyone stating an occupation. However, with increasing industrialization and urbanization,
census officials soon accepted the growing myth of one dimensional, cash based economy by further
defining occupation as the position in which the enumerated was gainfully employed, which the 1901
census identified as those paid salary or wages or other money allowances (MacDonald, 2010, p. 390).
This paper will explore the concept of labour data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Approaching this data otherwise leaves us with the impression that both women and Black workers
did not, and do not, contribute to the Canadian workforce in a meaningful way. In both cases, the
numbers depict that white men hold the majority of jobs in which they are the highest salary earners
(Fearon Wald 2011, p. 330; MacDonald, 2010, p. 390). Thus, reading these statistics without being
critical of the structures they stand upon only proves that white men have made greater contributions
to the Canadian labour market, and thus perpetuating the power of data. Therefore, based on the
authors findings, it must be concluded that much like the power of data, statistical manipulation
essentially distorts the truth and exaggerates statistics way out of proportion to suit a certain agenda.
For instance, the way that the wage gap has been similarly evaluated upholds the conviction that
women and Black workers do not work as hard as white men do or are unproductive, and therefore
they are assumed to be either lazy or incompetent. For example, the total number of women religious
in Canada seems grossly under reported in every census year, and yet it is carried into published
research, thus skewing data, which results in a significant portion of women religious assumed to have
been unproductive

allusions to past times such as the revolution and how the founding fathers did not want a big

which we base our hopes the future. Reagan s ability to connect with his audience was rare and unlike
many of his colleagues. Whether the topics he spoke on were always relevant to that of the listener, it
did not always matter.
Reagan had gained strong speaking skills while previously working in the acting industry thus
enabling him to better connect with his audience. Reagan believes that the country is headed in the
wrong direction and that America has several challenges at home and abroad. America s government
was in an economic crisis during the time this speech was given. He knew the citizens needed to hear
something strong and powerful that promised change for a better way of life. A Time for Choosing
was deliberative and not only informed and inspired the audience but it also provided America with a
lighthearted source of entertainment. The style changes at the end of the speech and establishes an
optimistic anticipation for the future. Reagan constructs the case for Goldwater and states in his

Example Of Virtuoso Personality
There are so many different walks of life, so many different personalities in the world. And no longer
do you have to be a chameleon and try and adapt to that environment you can truly be yourself (Hope
Solo). Knowing your personality and knowing about other types of personalities you may encounter in
life is imperative. 16 Personalities is a test designed to tell you about yourself in many different ways
from how you deal with challenges to how you will be as a parent. In taking this test, I received the
Virtuoso personality which is a combination of ISTP A; Introverted, Observant, Thinking, Prospecting
and Assertive. The biggest thing that makes a virtuoso a virtuoso is that they have to explore the world
around them. Virtuosos are extremely curious and need to learn about the tangible world around them.
I definitely agree with this. I feel like I have to know how the things around me work and I enjoy
taking things apart and building things myself. The article after the test does talk about this and more.
Just like every human on the earth, the Virtuoso has strengths and weaknesses, almost all of which I
identify with. As far as optimism and energy go, I identify with that very well. I enjoy working on
projects I am passionate about and I do go with the flow . I do also believe that I am flexible. I can
change and adapt my thinking to fit a situation and find solutions even in times of crisis. I am also
very relaxed and easy going. As far as weaknesses go, I

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum s Art Collection
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum s art collection blends history and culture to aesthetically
define a single individual: Isabella Stewart Gardner. From the Mosaic Floor: Medusa of the inner
courtyard, to The Coronation of Hebe (Paolo Veronese) on the ceiling of the third floor Veronese
Room, Gardner determined every inch of both the interior and exterior of the structure housing her
personal collection of masterpieces. This museum was specifically designed to resemble a 15th
century Venetian palazzo, inspired from the city that captured Gardner s heart and ultimate vision of
her legacy (Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum). Assisted by Renaissance revival architect, Willard T.
Sears, the palazzo like structure was realized in its full glory, albeit Renaissance ornamentation had no
logical place in early 20th century Boston, Massachusetts. However, Isabella Stewart Gardner s
fascination with the Renaissance was not solely because the works and buildings were visually
pleasing. A palazzo, for a wealthy family, was a lasting symbol of status. Gardner s choice to create a
museum inspired by this Renaissance structure demonstrates how this Renaissance mindset can be
translated into her modern context when crafting her own legacy.
The exterior of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is drastically more modest than the interior. In
the same fashion as the traditional palazzos of the Renaissance, the masonry is smooth and
understated. The flat roof resembles that of the Palazzo

Hobbes Leviath Human Desire
Jaime Rivas
POL 004 Essay 2
Human Desire In Hobbes Leviathan, man s nature is given an arguably pessimistic description by
Hobbes, So that in the first place, I put for a general inclination of all mankind, a perpetual and
restless desire of power after power, that ceaseth only in death (58). This conclusion of man s nature
comes as the logical end point of his discussion of bodies in motion, power and other aspects of
human nature. The description of man s nature by Hobbes also becomes the fundamental base for his
argument for the state of nature being a state of war or even a war of all against all . Hobbes man and
his nature is the fundamental basis for the creation of Hobbes Leviathan in response to the state of
constant war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These ideas of good and evil with our desires and aversions become the basis for Hobbes idea of
power which is The power of a man (to take it universally) is his present means to obtain some future
apparent good (50[1]). This interpretation of power by Hobbes states that the idea of power is the
ability to obtain objects which are good to you for the future or to state simply, it is to have a present
means to gain future desires. So, power by Hobbes terms is anything that aids you in gaining objects
of your desire either in the present or in the future, and it is this power which is man s main appetite
according to Hobbes. From this restless appetite comes Hobbes description of man s nature of restless
desire. Hobbes description of man s nature as a restless desire for power is the central foundation for
the creation of Hobbes state of nature. Life in what is considered a state of nature is the nature in the
condition without government. Hobbes states the scenario as the condition of mere nature (84[18]), a
state where no authority exist other than whatever authority, privacy, security or power an individual is
able to gain privately by themselves. Under this state of nature Hobbes assigns man a right of
preservation of themselves which he calls the right of nature (79[1]) where each man hath to use

The Grapes of Wrath
Fear, Hostility, and Exploitation in Chapter 21 of The Grapes of Wrath
Steinbeck s intercalary chapters in The Grapes of Wrath have nothing to do with the Joads or other
characters of the novel, but help describe the story in different terms. They are similar to poems,
offering different viewpoints of the migration, and clarifying parts of the story that the reader might
not understand. An excellent example of this use can be seen in chapter 21, where an examination of
the attitudes of migrant Okies and the residents of California reveals the changing nature of land
ownership among the changing population of California and gives greater meaning to the fierce
hostility that the Joads meet in California.
The first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They suffer the anguish of losing their farms and their homes, of being forced to move endlessly and
painfully in search of work on someone else s land. The anguish caused by sudden change in land
ownership is a major aspect of the novel.
The next section of chapter 21 offers an explanation of the hostility that the migrants meet upon
arrival in California. Steinbeck describes:
Men of property were terrified for their property. Men who had never been hungry saw the eyes of the
hungry. Men who had never wanted anything very much saw the flare of want in the eyes of the
migrants. And the men of the towns and of the soft suburban country gathered to defend themselves;
and they reassured themselves that they were good and the invaders bad, as a man must do before he
fights.
The mild people of California find in the Okies what they have yet to experience fear and desperation.
Sensing the extent to which the migrants are willing to work, the locals begin to fear for their own
jobs, and most importantly, for their own property. In fearful defense, they attack the Okies as
marauders who mean to destroy both populations through their desperation. This fear transforms into
hostility, which reveals itself in the story through the deputies and managers who abuse and assault the
Joads, as well as other migrant families in the workers

Four Contemporary Approaches To Management Analysis
Management is a leadership role of someone who works with resources and people to set and achieve
goals to make an organization successful. There are many different approaches to management that a
manager might use to help discover any problems and make proper decisions to solve anything that
might go wrong. When it comes to contemporary methods there are four ways that a manager might
utilize working with people, technology, resources, and the internal and external environments. These
include sociotechnical theory, quantitative management, organizational behavior, and systems theory.
Also, there are parts of an organizations internal and external environments that may alter the
effectiveness of these four contemporary approaches and how a manager might makes decisions. To
begin, using the sociotechnical theory approach to management, a manager will recognize the
interaction between technology and employees in an internal work environment. When giving the
correct knowledge, training, and tools, an employee will effectively produce goods and services that
are valued by the consumer. Ultimately, using this type of management creates great teamwork and
will give an organization a competitive advantage. Another approach that managers might use is the
quantitative management approach. It is not quite as effective when using it alone and should be used
as a supplemental tool. This approach uses technology and mathematical models such as forecasting,
simulations, and analysis and

Loveliest Of Trees By Robert Frost Poem Analysis
Cherry trees covered with snow, creating a forest where you want to go. Each bough is piled high with
the powdery ice and you decide it looks rather nice You look around you and see god above, and in the
lamb s eyes, you see God s love. The themes in the poems Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening
by Robert Frost, Loveliest of Trees by A E Housman and The Lamb by William Blake, reinforce the
author s purpose of demonstrating the different ways that human beings interact with and develop a
perspective on the world they live in using.
In Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost, the author develops the powerful theme
of a person s relationship with nature using repetition and rhyme. The repetition of the phrase at the
end of the poem brings attention to the obligations that the speaker has that conflict with their desire to
slip into the darkness of the woods and succumb to the lure of nature. The poem ends with The woods
are lovely, dark and deep/ But I have promises to keep/ And miles to go before I sleep/ And miles to
go before I sleep. This stanza encompasses the theme of the poem; the contradiction between two
sides of the person. With the delicate usage of words in the poem, the author is able to communicate
the theme. The poem is the author s way of commenting on the human condition but also on the
beauty of nature. The woods are described as dark and deep, but also lovely which implies the
speakers hesitant desire for darkness and the ending of

The Michigan School model, instead, examines three key factors: party identification, candidate
evaluations and policy issue positions. More recent theories have sought to combine these two models
using a metaphorical funnel of causality (Lewis Beck et al. 2008). In this model, long term factors,
such as socio demographics and partisanship are placed closer to the opening of the funnel, and as we
move deeper into the funnel, we come to factors that are less stable and more likely to vary as the
election approaches, such as issues and candidates.
While the funnel of causality provides a better picture of the factors that affect voting, the Multistage
Model provides the best picture of vote choice. While both the multistage models and the funnel of
causality organize factors based on their proximity to the vote choice, taking into consideration more
stable and variable effects, the multistage model goes one step further by explicitly representing the
linkages between factors (Gidengil et al. 2012). Based on this understanding, it is clear that while
factors like issues and candidate evaluations effect your vote choice, they also have an effect on each
other.
In this paper, we will be examining the effects that one of these variables, issues, has on a second,
candidate evaluations. Previous research (Belanger and Meguid 2008) has found that issue ownership
and issue salience both have effects on vote choice. Voters are more

informing and warning United States citizens on current or future catastrophes and hazards. One way
for people to stay informed on the current risk levels of terrorist attacks is through the Homeland

Ability Tracking Pros And Cons
Ability Grouping and Tracking
Introduction
Debates about ability grouping and tracking often focus on the conflict between if they both help the
majority and not the just the high achieving students. Ability grouping and tracking in high school
have many positive and negative effects on society. Education is an important field in sociology and it
has a big impact on how a society develops. Many researchers and politicians believe that the
educational system should be improved. Some believe that ability grouping and tracking only benefit a
select number of students instead of the majority, while those who oppose argue that it is the most

Historically debates and controversies about ability grouping and tracking have often focused on if the
pros outweigh the cons. No one can deny that both of these practices have benefits and that they also
have many downfalls. Tracking and ability grouping have both been around for nearly a century. They
both have proved beneficial to students and educators, but have unintentionally created systemic
segregation and other problems. There have been many discussions and arguments throughout the last
few decades about whether or not the benefits of ability grouping and tracking outweigh the cons.
These discussions have gained more attention and popularity at certain points in history. For instance,
ability grouping and tracking were both popular topics in discussions in the eighties and early nineties.
Both practices lost popularity in the late nineties, but are now making a comeback. Both practices
have been improved, but they need to be more flexible for students and educators. History has taught
us that ability grouping and tracking are both needed in some form, but both practices need to

The Soul Stays the Same in Plato
I think, Socrates, he said, that on this line of argument any man, even the dullest, would agree that the
soul is altogether more like that which always exists in the same state rather than like that which does
not (Plato, Phaedo 79e)
In this paper I will argue that the soul is not necessarily unchanging and eternal, as many of Plato s
arguments would suggest otherwise. The main reasons in support of this claim are that there are
questionable conclusions that Plato had reached that challenge the validity of his theory on immortal
souls. The Phaedo is one of Plato s greatest dialogues addressing the essence of the afterlife through a
discussion between Socrates and his students. Plato s main argument within the Phaedo is that there is

I mean such things as good and evil, just and unjust and there are innumerable other opposites which
are generated out of opposites. And I want to show that this holds universally of all opposites; I mean
to say, for example, that anything which becomes greater must become greater after being less. (Plato,
70d) In the dialogue Socrates established that everything is generated from its opposite so must have
an opposite. However, it is valid to question this by interpreting the opposite argument. If to say
everything has an opposite, would the opposite of existence be non existence? Existence is created
from non existence and non existence from existence. If this is true, than would not the existence of a
soul suggest that at some point the soul did not exist? Thus, it may be that the soul had a previous
existence but it does not definitively suggest that the soul is immortal and has no end. This is
somewhat related to Cebes argument that that soul may have existed through many bodies but may
eventually pass on. Plato fails to further explain the cycle of the soul. Socrates does not give detail on
when the cycle of the soul begins or how it may have started. Furthermore, if one relies on the
opposites argument for support of the immortal theory then one could consider that is there was a
beginning to the cycle of the soul than there would be some sort of end.
The Theory of Recollection also has some gaps in its logic

An American Artist And Member Of The Hudson River School
Albert Bierstadt (1830 1902) was an American artist and member of the Hudson River School. He was
one of the first of the Hudson River Artist s to paint beyond New York and see the unexplored west.
Bierstadt s paintings focused more upon the sublime in nature. His painting titled Indian Summer
Hudson River was completed in 1861. It is oil on canvas painting, which measures twenty four inches
in height by forty one inches wide. One looks out across a secluded section of the Hudson River. It is
late afternoon, and the sun is beginning its decent. The sun is almost blinding; its rays glistening and
reflecting upon the river turning its blues to greens. The sky is clear with the exception of a few
scattered clouds, which begin to absorb the gold and reds of the setting sun, giving an almost hazy
effect to the end of this Indian summer day. On the far side of the river, a child helps his father pull a
small boat onto the bank, as a small group of cattle makes their way across from the bank opposite
them. The cattle move slowly and intently across the water, drinking as they walk, enjoying the last
moments of the day as they continue toward the father and son. Two additional cows lounge on the
cool earth beneath the trees whose branches are scattered with the crimson and yellow orange colors
of early evening and that of fall. In analyzing Bierstadt s Indian Summer Hudson River , the painting
would be defined as an example of representational artwork. Bierstadt s painting

enterprises in America. Carnegie later sold it to J.P. Morgan s United States Steel Corporation in 1901
for $400 million, which would be a little over $4 billion today! After retiring, Carnegie s fortune was
estimated to be as large as half a billion dollars. From that time on, with the philosophy that the rich

Bandwidth Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transmitted over the network within a given
time which is usually measured in bps (bits per second). Bandwidth is not the same as speed but it is
the amount of data it can send each second which does speed up the process. It is not the same as how
fast it can send data from one point to another. Imagine two boxes which move at the same speed to
reach the same destination; one box has more space to fit more inside than the other box. This means
the bigger box has more bandwidth and can carry more information per second than the smaller box
with less bandwidth. Network Connection There are different ways of connecting to the internet. You
can be connected wireless or wired and have normal broadband or fibre optic broadband. The type of
connection will have an effect on the speed of your network. Unlike the copper wires of an ADSL
connection, cables are partially made of fibre optic material, which allows for much faster broadband
speeds and increased reliability. Another factor which may affect speeds is the distance of your house

Rhinoplasty, another name for a nose job, has been described as the most difficult of all facial plastic
surgical procedures. As with all surgical procedures there are risks and benefits. When deciding
whether to have the surgery, the patient along with their surgeon needs to weigh the benefits of
rhinoplasty versus the risks and complications. Usually the person who is getting the surgery only
thinks of the benefits the nose job will bring them, which is usually just a confidence booster. The
serious risks that people take when they get rhinoplasty are difficulty breathing, nose swelling and
discoloration, nasal septal perforation (a hole in the nasal septum), and probably the most important
risk the shallow patient is probably thinking: the unsatisfactory nasal appearance. In an episode of

The Reaction Of The Alcohols
The alcohols 1 propanol and 2 pentanol were converted into alkyl halides through a certain series of
steps. The first step was reflux, and the purpose of reflux is to add energy to the solution and not lose
any solution to evaporation. This energy helps initiate the acid catalyzed dehydration reaction and also
promotes rearrangement. The next step was distillation, which functioned to separate liquids based on
boiling points. The distillation utilizes boiling points to separate the alkyl halide products from many
impurities that might exist. Reflux is the first step instead of distillation because refluxing allows the
reaction to progress. If distillation was performed first, separation would begin before the reaction was

For example, since the voltage adapter connected to the sand bath may not have been working
properly, inconsistent heating patterns could have proposed a problem during reflux. Also, a few extra
drops of water may have invaded the product while the flask was cooling in the ice bath during
distillation. Furthermore, it is possible that not all of the organic layer was drained out of the
separatory funnel during separation, and maybe the drying agent was not allowed enough time to
remove all of the water. Errors will always hinder the success of a reaction, which will greatly effect
the percent yield.
Infrared spectroscopy (IR) is a very useful tool that can read a molecule s functional groups from a
small sample. By monitoring the disappearance and appearance of certain groups, it is possible to
confirm wether compounds have formed. In this experiment, for example, the reactants are alcohols,
whose IRs will show a large and broad absorption around 3500 cm 1. These hydroxide groups are

A Reflection On Capstone Nursing Practicum
As N412L: Capstone Nursing Practicum comes to a close, I can reflect on my clinical experiences in
this course and my progress towards meeting my defined behavioral objectives. At the beginning of
this course, I set goals for myself, of which I planned to accomplish by the time this term came to a
close. These objectives included: effective communication of the patient s care summary in SBAR
format, safe and efficient administration of intravenous medications, successful performance of
tracheostomy care, and accurate physical assessment and patient monitoring. While I still have much
to learn as I step into the role of a graduate nurse, I have accomplished my behavioral objectives for
this semester.
Description
Throughout the second half of the semester, I have not made any significant changes to my pre clinical
routine. I still prepare and gather my supplies the evening beforehand, and I try to avoid during
schoolwork in order to facilitate restful sleep. However, upon arriving to the unit, I have developed a
familiarity with the staff and environment that has reduced my stress and anxiety levels, allowing me
to focus more attention on my patient assignment for the day. Although we do not have assigned
preceptors, I have developed a mentoring relationship with two of the nurses on the unit and will work
with those staff members if available. As we have gotten to know and trust one another, we do not
have to spend the first part of our shift familiarizing ourselves,

Analysis Of The Man Who Was Almost A Man By Richard Wright
What does it mean to be a man? This question is an abstract, complex, and profound inquiry into the
essence of manhood that humanity may never truly discover a conclusive understanding. The various
facets that encompass the concept of manhood are numerous, but the often unexplainable connection
amongst power and manhood seems to be a mainstay in the opinions of men regardless of race,
gender, or sexual orientation. In Richard Wright s short story, The Man Who Was Almost a Man ,
Wright addresses the relationship between power and the desire to become a man. Throughout this
literary piece, white men and black men engage in conflicts of power both within their ethnic
communities and across racial groups. However, the aspiration of a young black boy named Dave to
obtain power in order to ascend into manhood is the focal point of this short story. Dave s attempt at
transitioning from a boy to a man is an arduous journey that arguably concludes in failure (Wright, 3
18). Although written to supply Dave a means to achieve power and manhood in a new environment,
the conclusion of The Man Who Was Almost a Man could have been fashioned in an ironic and
heartbreaking manner which would ultimately grant Dave the intangibles he seeks. In this same
thought, composing an alternative ending in which Dave shoots at Mr. Hawkins house accidentally
killing his own father, Bob Saunders, would have further addressed the dynamics surrounding
boyhood and manhood hopefully revealing the

Hemingway s Use of Economy In The End of Something Essay
Hemingway s Use of Economy In The End of Something
Hemingway is renowned for his brief, simple and economical writing style. This is present in the story
The end of something , but how does he achieve this and what effect does it have on the story.
Hemingway has an economical writing style, which is achieved through the repetition of words. An
example of this is the use of the word said after any dialogue between Marjorie and Nick. This can
seem quite juvenile in style, many authors would be more descriptive, but by repeating this simple and
plain word Hemingway is commenting on the tediousness of their relationship. This is reinforced later
when Nick remarks it isn t fun anymore . When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several lines and words in the story that have double meanings and it is for us the reader to
interpret them. An example of this is the word Lying in the following sentence Yes Nick said lying, his
face on the blanket . Lying could mean one of two things, lying face down or not telling the truth. If
we take the former meaning he could be lying because he doesn t want to look at Bill because he feels
guilty, if we take the latter then it suggests that Nick is embarrassed about his actions and doesn t want
to admit that he hurt Marjorie. The use of double entrées make the audience think more about there
own perception and is also economical because it is using one word to convey two meanings. There is
also a vagueness in the story where we the audience are meant to fill in the gaps. For example the
relationship between Bill and Nick is not explained, are they just friends or is there an illusion to a
homoerotic relationship? Making the audience an active reader is the one of the main functions of an
economical style.
The metaphors in the story require an active reader to perceive them. An example of an extended
metaphor in the story is fishing. In this metaphor, Nick is a fish, for whom biting would be deciding to
marry. Marjorie is hopeful that the fish are

Factors Affecting Customer Satisfaction And The...
As you requested on February 20, 2017, I have examined the causes for the apparent decrease in
customer satisfaction and the contributing factors. This report presents data describing how these
factors have combined to leave customers feeling dissatisfied and looking for alternate providers and
other means of travel, along with my recommendations to increase customer service and attract new
customers.
Over the last year, flight problems such as cancellations and delays along with baggage issues have
accounted for 50% of all consumer complaints. Ticketing, boarding, and security issues have
accounted for another 15% of all complaints filed with the Department of Transportation leaving you

I Am The Most Football Inquestion
As many of you may of heard about deflategate by now but, I can can tell you the truth on this matter
for I am the very football inquestion. So my life started the same as any other inflated dead cow in
Ada, Ohio. I was made in the second week of January which meant I was going to be used for one of
the upcoming championship games. Before I was shipped out I was dreaming of being thrown by Tom
Brady and Andrew Luck or being carried by Beast Mode and Eddie Lacy. After my fellow footballs
and I heard we were going to Foxborough I knew we would play a role in a historic game that could
be Brady s last chance for four rings or Luck s first of many super bowl appearances. We arrived a few
days before the AFC Championship Game. I was thankfully one of the 6 outdoor footballs and not one
of the balls only used for kicking or practice because I wanted to feel what it was like to be thrown by
what could two of the best quarterbacks of all time when it is said and done. I also didn t want to be
the football that missed a field goal because of the wind or snow that is present at a night game at
Gillette. We were picked up by Jim McNally and John Jastremski, the Patriot equipment managers.
They took us to their office and set us in the corner behind their desk. I was on top of the bag so I had
a perfect view of their computers and I was stunned by what I saw. Jim and John were talking to
Brady about how he wanted us prepared. This is pretty normal for teams to do and with a star

Anxiety And Other Mood Disorders
Charles Frankel said, Anxiety is the essential condition of intellectual and artistic creation and
everything that is finest in human history . There is some evidence to support this idea that anxiety and
other mood disorders are essential to many forms of art. In this article I will examine how mood
disorders influence art, as well as give multiple examples of how mood disorders are portrayed in the
following art forms: paintings, literature, and music. Before we can broach the topic of art and mood
disorders we need to have a good basis of what mood disorders are. Mood disorders are defined as a
perpetual and significant disturbance in a person s emotional state or mood (Lane, 2013). There are
two main types of mood disorders: depressive disorders and bipolar disorders. Depressive disorders
are characterized by frequent and persistent depressive states. Bipolar disorders, on the other hand, are
characterized by fluctuations between both depressive and manic episodes, or lows and highs. I am
also going to include generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in our mood disorder category because there
are lifetime diagnoses of anxiety and depression that show extensive comorbidity , or in more simple
terms, there is a high chance that someone who has anxiety will also have depression and vice versa
(Mineka, 1998, p.382).
Now that we know what mood disorders are we can look at their relationship with art and creativity.
There have been past studies done that have shown that

The Poetry Of Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney is one of the most famous living poets of our age. He was born in April 1939 in
Castledawson, Ireland and died on the 30th of August 2013. He grew up in his family farm house in
County Derry being the eldest sibling of 9 in the family. His father, Patrick Heaney focused on a cattle
dealers way of life, whereas his mother, Margaret McCann obtained connections with the modern
world. The poet believed he grasped significant tension and contrast through his parentage between
speech and silence, convinced that opposites truly do attract. At the age of 12 Heaney was awarded a
scholarship to St. Columb s College, followed by years of transfers and then finally moving to the
Irish Republic and from 1982 was regularly teaching in America, which basically proposed his poetry
career.
The wordsmith from Ireland he was named was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, with his poetry
achieving great critical acclaim and popularity. The three poems I annotated; Mid Term Break ,
Follower and Twice Shy are examples of either tradition or events from Northern Ireland. Heaney was
deeply influenced by the country lifestyle which alternatively profound expression within his poetry.
Heaney was an observant man who analysed and understood the time evolving. As well as obtaining a
mastery in the English Language had provided his poetry to be an inspiration to present generations.
BODY what Mid term break is a poem written as an elegy that is filled with secrecy and emotion

Alan Mann Short Story
Alan Mann s Life Story
Alan Mann
Southeastern Oklahoma State University
Alan Mann s Life Story Alan Mann was born in 1974 in the city of Monroe, Michigan. Monroe is
about 40 miles South of Detroit on Lake Erie. He has two older brothers named Jason and Michael.
Alan s parents met when they were in the Navy. His father changed services to the Army and was
stationed in Monroe as a recruiter after returning from the Vietnam War. Being born the son of an
Army member makes one an Army Brat which means moving very often and attending several
schools over one s lifetime (Baker, 2015). One of his earliest memories is of his mother bundling him
up to go outside in the heavy snows of a Michigan winter storm. In 1978, the family moved to Mainz,
Germany where he attended the first grade. While stationed there, the family visited many German
castles, learned a lot of German history, went on Volksmarches which were noncompetitive
walkathons (AVA) and met a lot of interesting people. In 1981, the family moved back to the United
States to Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas. There, Alan attended Logan Heights Elementary School. His
house was on a street that had a dead end. Beyond the dead end was literally the desert complete with
cactuses, tumbleweeds, horned frogs, and tarantulas. He loved going over the border to Juarez,
Mexico with the family and haggling with the merchants for items. Finally, in 1982 the family moved
to Ft. Polk, Louisiana for his last move which is where his father retired from the military. In
Louisiana, Alan attended Leesville Junior High and High School. He graduated with honors in 1992.
He enrolled at Northwestern State University for the fall semester. However, he was working full time,
had an hour long commute to classes, and a new girlfriend that would soon be his wife. His grades
weren t very good. Alan decided perhaps he was ready for a break from school and was ready to do a
little growing up . Having a long history of military service in his family, he looked to do his duty and
serve also. After talking with the recruiters in his home town, the Air Force seemed to have the jobs he
found most interesting. He took the ASVAB test and scored high enough to select any job the Air
Force had to

The Incarnation Research Paper
Incarnation is the term that is used to indicate that Jesus, the Son of God, became human. God wanted
human kind to be made in his image and he wanted to change the relationship between himself and
Christians. Therefore, during the incarnation, the Son of God came in human form so that he could be
the Saviour of mankind. Our saviour came in the flesh, in human form and it was essential for him to
shed His blood so that our sins could be forgiven. Our redemption entirely relies on Jesus coming to
this world in the flesh. His love was exhibited when taking on human form and permitting this form to
be demolished as a sacrifice on our behalf. Christians discovered a God throughout the incarnation,
who loves us so much that He came to earth and

  • 2. Impact Of The Land Administration Projects Changes in Customary Land Administration and Building Synergy in Pluralistic Institutional Environment in Sub Sahara Africa: Examining the Impact of the Land Administration Projects (LAP) in Ghana Research Background and Problem Plurality of institutions is a unique feature of the land administration system in Africa. This system is characterized by the operations of traditional landholding institutions that have been in existence and has been holding land time immemorial on ground of ancestry together with statutory established formal land agencies that is required to complement efforts of the former. Traditional institutions in some countries continue to play key role in the system, despite widespread implementation of the formalization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is argued that multiple institutional and legal structures could bring about contradictions and insecurity regarding whose rights count, whose rights will be supported in the event of a contest, and which decision making structures are paramount resulting in institution shopping (Toulmin, 2009). In Ghana, the pluralism systems are poorly articulated and has been the cause of growing contradiction and conflict (Kasanga and Kotey, 2001). This can be substantiated by studies from Yeboah and Shaw (2011) that find the traditional institutions are making makeshift plans in order to sell lands even without the knowledge of the appropriate planning authority. Also, Biitir and Nara (2016) finds that land governance in Ghana is hampered by lack of cooperation and collaboration between these institutions. The state of the pure distinct operations of the customary and statutory land tenure institutions therefore denies synergistic effect (Cousin and Hornby, 2005). In the wake of the aforementioned factors and address resulting problems, previous and present governments of Ghana have made attempts to streamline the system through land policies and projects. The Land Administration Projects (LAP) is currently being implemented (Government of Ghana, 2008). This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The tension between both the Hutu and Tutsi already existed; it only needed something to reach its breaking point a stressor. On April 6, 1994, the plane that occupied Juvenal Habyarimana, President of Rwanda, and Cyprien Ntaryamina, President of Burundi crashed due to unexplained circumstances. Over the next three months in Rwanda after the crash carrying both Presidents, mass killings began to occur. The kill count escaladed dramatically leaving one million Rwandans dead and two million seeking refugee status among its neighbors: Zaire, Tanzania, and Burundi (Kellow and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning Radio Libre de Mille Collines (RTLM) was not the main source of media coverage, Radio Rwanda was considered the official government station. Thanks to President Habyarimana, Radio Rwanda had been able to broadcast, using the palace directly across the street from the station as a direct line in case the power failed. RTLM managed to gain access to this direct line that gradually faded out Radio Rwanda s signals to a minimal broadcasting network. Through this Radio Rwanda had minimal influence and responsibility over the inflammatory messages RTLM broadcasted making them the main voice of ethnic hatred (Kellow and Steeves 1998, 118). The main source for inflammatory comments and snide remarks situated from RTLM. The stations continuous references and language such as vigilant, fight or kill, defend, and/or exterminate only aided in fanning the flames during the times of low genocide when the kill count dropped in numbers. The constant reference to inyenzi (or cockroach a term used to describe Tutsi rebels and Tutsi civilians) directed its comments to a particular group, the Tutsi (Straus 2007, 623). Radio can only be deemed effective if there is an audience to broadcast towards. If there is no audience radio broadcasting becomes pointless and ineffective. Its effectiveness is achieved through their popularity and through viewers acceptance of what is being presented. RTLM immediately attracted a large audience, especially ... • 4. Racism And Discrimination In Nebraska Racism has been a core problem in the United States of America ever since the country was founded two centuries ago. The country has repeatedly seen discrimination against the black Community by the hands of the White community. Along with time, this racial discrimination based on color has been reduced through extensive programs and new ideologies by state run programs as well as by programs that are federally funded. However, the same cannot be said for the state of Nebraska. This is because Nebraska has stated representatives who are racist against the Black Community, educational institutes where racism is at an all time high, and societies in state cities where racism continues to be tolerated by the vast majority of people who live in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Racism in educational institutes of Nebraska is higher than one could ever expect it to be. Children are bullied on the basis of their skin color, they are degraded for the same reasons, and academic success often befalls the white community rather than the black community in such academic institutions because the black community is perceived as undeserving in the manner. Even the chancellor of Nebraska has admitted that he has witnessed racism in his own university and that there should be more done in order to excuse such racism and prevent it from happening ever again (Howard, 2015). This revelation and admittance came out after the UNL University had discovered increasing racism among students and faculty staff against the black community that persisted in the ... Advantages Of A Feather Pillow Choosing the most comfortable feather pillow Getting a good night s sleep is an important part of maintaining not only your physical health, but also your mental health. Experts have established that people who sleep inadequately have a weaker immune system than those who have adequate sleep. Hence getting a good night s sleep becomes important. Having a pillow that allows you to rest your head in comfort will allow you to sleep adequately and comfortably. For those seeking a fluffy, soft pillow filled with natural materials, a feather pillow fits these requirements in full. Considering the vast majority of feather pillow types and manufactures, it gives one a headache just to select a pillow good enough to guarantee a good night s sleep. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Down Pillows come stuffed with either feathers or down, or a mixture of the two. Down is the cotton like insulation underneath the hard feathers that keeps a bird cozy, comfy and warm. These feathers are very soft and fluffy, as compared to the bird s outer feathers which are harder with sharp quills. The best feather pillows hence contain 100%. Generally, pure down pillows are of higher quality and comfort than other feather pillows and tend to stay comfy longer. Higher quality pillows come with a warranty from the manufacturer, so you ll give a peace of your mind (and even get a replacement!) if your pillow doesn t function well enough. The Fluff Factor and pillow Fluffiness How fluffy a pillow is depends on the Fill Power of the pillow. According to the Down Feather Company Fill power tells us the amount of space that an ounce of the down will fill in cubic inches inside the pillow. A higher fill power indicates that the pillow contains down from a more mature bird. This down is larger than that from a younger bird. Larger down feathers mean more loft or height to the pillow. The answer may surprise since compared to the dominant languages, in which the concept of ice is described by a single word, the Polar Eskimos have more than twenty times that number. Despite apparent uniqueness of this language, it is likely that no one will use in a relatively short time as globalization whips out minority languages leaving only a few with a chance to survive. In the essay, Death by Monoculture, Stephen Pax Leonard argues that this deprivation in the realm of languages is going to lead to a dull world (Leonard 148). What Is The Cultural Context Of The Happiest Millionaire I will be using the 1967 movie musical The Happiest Millionaire, directed by Norman Tokar, to demonstrate group communication theories by examining the transitions taking place within the Biddle family, and how these transitions become apparent through the family s interactions with new groups of individuals. Rather than recognizing that an organization has a culture, it can be argued that an organization is a culture. This means that communication occurs in a unique cultural context, which the organization establishes for itself. Regarded as a soft science, the cultural approach is a more interpretive form of analysis, and is understood through the sharing of personal, collegial, and corporate stories, as well as the ritualistic tendencies of the organization ... Biddle and the members of the Biddle Bible Study use these practices to create a culture that is dependent upon the connection between physical exercise and spiritual understanding. Mr. Biddle uses corporate stories and rituals to express the ideologies of the group, the most important being that everyone can and should be both physically and spiritually strong, regardless of gender, size, or age. In one scene, Mr. Biddle is visited by a small group of young military men who are interested in using his bible study methods to train their recruits. However, after explaining his corporate ideology, the men inform him that he is too old to train the men himself, so he challenges one of the young men to a boxing match, which he promptly wins. This match helped Mr. Biddle demonstrate that the unique culture of the Biddle Bible Study cannot be truly duplicated by anyone but himself. • 11. Labour Force In Canada The term labour force consists of persons who contribute or are available to contribute to the production of goods and services falling within the System of National Accounts production boundary (Statistics Canada, 2017). According to Canada s first decennial census, the work force was meant to include anyone stating an occupation. However, with increasing industrialization and urbanization, census officials soon accepted the growing myth of one dimensional, cash based economy by further defining occupation as the position in which the enumerated was gainfully employed, which the 1901 census identified as those paid salary or wages or other money allowances (MacDonald, 2010, p. 390). This paper will explore the concept of labour data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Approaching this data otherwise leaves us with the impression that both women and Black workers did not, and do not, contribute to the Canadian workforce in a meaningful way. In both cases, the numbers depict that white men hold the majority of jobs in which they are the highest salary earners (Fearon Wald 2011, p. 330; MacDonald, 2010, p. 390). Thus, reading these statistics without being critical of the structures they stand upon only proves that white men have made greater contributions to the Canadian labour market, and thus perpetuating the power of data. Therefore, based on the authors findings, it must be concluded that much like the power of data, statistical manipulation essentially distorts the truth and exaggerates statistics way out of proportion to suit a certain agenda. For instance, the way that the wage gap has been similarly evaluated upholds the conviction that women and Black workers do not work as hard as white men do or are unproductive, and therefore they are assumed to be either lazy or incompetent. For example, the total number of women religious in Canada seems grossly under reported in every census year, and yet it is carried into published research, thus skewing data, which results in a significant portion of women religious assumed to have been unproductive ... • 15. Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum s Art Collection The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum s art collection blends history and culture to aesthetically define a single individual: Isabella Stewart Gardner. From the Mosaic Floor: Medusa of the inner courtyard, to The Coronation of Hebe (Paolo Veronese) on the ceiling of the third floor Veronese Room, Gardner determined every inch of both the interior and exterior of the structure housing her personal collection of masterpieces. This museum was specifically designed to resemble a 15th century Venetian palazzo, inspired from the city that captured Gardner s heart and ultimate vision of her legacy (Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum). Assisted by Renaissance revival architect, Willard T. Sears, the palazzo like structure was realized in its full glory, albeit Renaissance ornamentation had no logical place in early 20th century Boston, Massachusetts. However, Isabella Stewart Gardner s fascination with the Renaissance was not solely because the works and buildings were visually pleasing. A palazzo, for a wealthy family, was a lasting symbol of status. Gardner s choice to create a museum inspired by this Renaissance structure demonstrates how this Renaissance mindset can be translated into her modern context when crafting her own legacy. The exterior of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is drastically more modest than the interior. In the same fashion as the traditional palazzos of the Renaissance, the masonry is smooth and understated. The flat roof resembles that of the Palazzo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hobbes Leviath Human Desire Jaime Rivas POL 004 Essay 2 Human Desire In Hobbes Leviathan, man s nature is given an arguably pessimistic description by Hobbes, So that in the first place, I put for a general inclination of all mankind, a perpetual and restless desire of power after power, that ceaseth only in death (58). This conclusion of man s nature comes as the logical end point of his discussion of bodies in motion, power and other aspects of human nature. These ideas of good and evil with our desires and aversions become the basis for Hobbes idea of power which is The power of a man (to take it universally) is his present means to obtain some future apparent good (50[1]). So, power by Hobbes terms is anything that aids you in gaining objects of your desire either in the present or in the future, and it is this power which is man s main appetite according to Hobbes. From this restless appetite comes Hobbes description of man s nature of restless desire. Hobbes description of man s nature as a restless desire for power is the central foundation for the creation of Hobbes state of nature. Life in what is considered a state of nature is the nature in the condition without government. Hobbes states the scenario as the condition of mere nature (84[18]), a state where no authority exist other than whatever authority, privacy, security or power an individual is able to gain privately by themselves. They are similar to poems, offering different viewpoints of the migration, and clarifying parts of the story that the reader might not understand. An excellent example of this use can be seen in chapter 21, where an examination of the attitudes of migrant Okies and the residents of California reveals the changing nature of land ownership among the changing population of California and gives greater meaning to the fierce hostility that the Joads meet in California. The anguish caused by sudden change in land ownership is a major aspect of the novel. Men who had never been hungry saw the eyes of the hungry. Men who had never wanted anything very much saw the flare of want in the eyes of the migrants. And the men of the towns and of the soft suburban country gathered to defend themselves; and they reassured themselves that they were good and the invaders bad, as a man must do before he fights. The mild people of California find in the Okies what they have yet to experience fear and desperation. Sensing the extent to which the migrants are willing to work, the locals begin to fear for their own jobs, and most importantly, for their own property. In fearful defense, they attack the Okies as marauders who mean to destroy both populations through their desperation. This fear transforms into

There are many different approaches to management that a manager might use to help discover any problems and make proper decisions to solve anything that might go wrong. When it comes to contemporary methods there are four ways that a manager might utilize working with people, technology, resources, and the internal and external environments. These include sociotechnical theory, quantitative management, organizational behavior, and systems theory. Also, there are parts of an organizations internal and external environments that may alter the effectiveness of these four contemporary approaches and how a manager might makes decisions. To begin, using the sociotechnical theory approach to management, a manager will recognize the interaction between technology and employees in an internal work environment. When giving the correct knowledge, training, and tools, an employee will effectively produce goods and services that are valued by the consumer. Ultimately, using this type of management creates great teamwork and will give an organization a competitive advantage. Another approach that managers might use is the quantitative management approach. It is not quite as effective when using it alone and should be used as a supplemental tool. This approach uses technology and mathematical models such as forecasting, simulations, and analysis and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost, the author develops the powerful theme of a person s relationship with nature using repetition and rhyme. The repetition of the phrase at the end of the poem brings attention to the obligations that the speaker has that conflict with their desire to slip into the darkness of the woods and succumb to the lure of nature. More recent theories have sought to combine these two models using a metaphorical funnel of causality (Lewis Beck et al. 2008). In this model, long term factors, such as socio demographics and partisanship are placed closer to the opening of the funnel, and as we move deeper into the funnel, we come to factors that are less stable and more likely to vary as the election approaches, such as issues and candidates. While the funnel of causality provides a better picture of the factors that affect voting, the Multistage Model provides the best picture of vote choice. While both the multistage models and the funnel of causality organize factors based on their proximity to the vote choice, taking into consideration more stable and variable effects, the multistage model goes one step further by explicitly representing the linkages between factors (Gidengil et al. 2012). Based on this understanding, it is clear that while factors like issues and candidate evaluations effect your vote choice, they also have an effect on each other. The Soul Stays the Same in Plato I think, Socrates, he said, that on this line of argument any man, even the dullest, would agree that the soul is altogether more like that which always exists in the same state rather than like that which does not (Plato, Phaedo 79e) In this paper I will argue that the soul is not necessarily unchanging and eternal, as many of Plato s arguments would suggest otherwise. The main reasons in support of this claim are that there are questionable conclusions that Plato had reached that challenge the validity of his theory on immortal souls. I mean such things as good and evil, just and unjust and there are innumerable other opposites which are generated out of opposites. And I want to show that this holds universally of all opposites; I mean to say, for example, that anything which becomes greater must become greater after being less. (Plato, 70d) In the dialogue Socrates established that everything is generated from its opposite so must have an opposite. However, it is valid to question this by interpreting the opposite argument. If to say everything has an opposite, would the opposite of existence be non existence? Existence is created from non existence and non existence from existence. If this is true, than would not the existence of a soul suggest that at some point the soul did not exist? Thus, it may be that the soul had a previous existence but it does not definitively suggest that the soul is immortal and has no end. This is somewhat related to Cebes argument that that soul may have existed through many bodies but may eventually pass on. Plato fails to further explain the cycle of the soul. Socrates does not give detail on when the cycle of the soul begins or how it may have started. Although ironic, this man of great fortune strongly believed in the merits of poverty for the development of character and work ethic, and determined that wealthy men should not leave their fortunes to their children, but should give it away, claiming The man who dies thus rich, dies disgraced. The picture of community service, Carnegie is quoted as saying, Pittsburgh entered the core of my heart when I was a boy, and cannot be torn out. I can never be one hair s breadth less loyal to her, or less anxious to help her in any way, than I have been since I could help anything. My treasure is still with you, and how best to serve Pittsburgh is the question which occurs to me almost every day of my life. Colonel James Anderson, who Carnegie ... SOHO can be a combination of wired and wireless connections and tends to include devices such as a printer, fax machine and other devices which can be shared on a computer. Network Capacity Constraints Bandwidth Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transmitted over the network within a given time which is usually measured in bps (bits per second). Bandwidth is not the same as speed but it is the amount of data it can send each second which does speed up the process. It is not the same as how fast it can send data from one point to another. Imagine two boxes which move at the same speed to reach the same destination; one box has more space to fit more inside than the other box. This means the bigger box has more bandwidth and can carry more information per second than the smaller box with less bandwidth. Network Connection There are different ways of connecting to the internet. You can be connected wireless or wired and have normal broadband or fibre optic broadband. The type of connection will have an effect on the speed of your network. Unlike the copper wires of an ADSL connection, cables are partially made of fibre optic material, which allows for much faster broadband speeds and increased reliability. Another factor which may affect speeds is the distance of your house to your local telephone box unit on your road. Internet Speed Your internet speed that your ISP is allowing you is the ... • 37. Persuasive Speech About Plastic Surgery Why has society become so obsessed with being perfect? What s wrong with laugh lines near your mouth, crow s feet by your eyes, and cellulite on your legs? Growing up in today s society puts a lot of pressure on young men and women to look their best all of the time. People fear the changes that naturally take place in the aging process and take drastic measures to alter their appearance. The dangers of getting certain procedures such as botox and collagen injections, implants, and rhinoplasty are extremely dangerous ways to hold on to a youthful look. The patients who get plastic surgery claim that it makes them feel more confident and look much better, which helps boost their self esteem. However, is it really worth the risks of complication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rhinoplasty, another name for a nose job, has been described as the most difficult of all facial plastic surgical procedures. As with all surgical procedures there are risks and benefits. When deciding whether to have the surgery, the patient along with their surgeon needs to weigh the benefits of rhinoplasty versus the risks and complications. Usually the person who is getting the surgery only thinks of the benefits the nose job will bring them, which is usually just a confidence booster. The serious risks that people take when they get rhinoplasty are difficulty breathing, nose swelling and discoloration, nasal septal perforation (a hole in the nasal septum), and probably the most important risk the shallow patient is probably thinking: the unsatisfactory nasal appearance. In an episode of Botched, a famous television show solely based off of plastic surgeries, a patient wanted her seventh nose job. Terry Dubrow, one of the surgeons state, Going into a field that s been operated on already six times, I know that the tissue is not going to heal great. I know that there s also a risk of tissue death, and how great of a job I do the healing may be off (HollywoodLife). Just like Dubrow explains, sometimes no matter how good of a job the surgeon does, the plastic surgery can heal wrong which can lead to major complications. Why run the risk anyway when the ... The first step was reflux, and the purpose of reflux is to add energy to the solution and not lose any solution to evaporation. This energy helps initiate the acid catalyzed dehydration reaction and also promotes rearrangement. The next step was distillation, which functioned to separate liquids based on boiling points. The distillation utilizes boiling points to separate the alkyl halide products from many impurities that might exist. Reflux is the first step instead of distillation because refluxing allows the reaction to progress. If distillation was performed first, separation would begin before the reaction was allowed time to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, since the voltage adapter connected to the sand bath may not have been working properly, inconsistent heating patterns could have proposed a problem during reflux. Also, a few extra drops of water may have invaded the product while the flask was cooling in the ice bath during distillation. Furthermore, it is possible that not all of the organic layer was drained out of the separatory funnel during separation, and maybe the drying agent was not allowed enough time to remove all of the water. Errors will always hinder the success of a reaction, which will greatly effect the percent yield. Infrared spectroscopy (IR) is a very useful tool that can read a molecule s functional groups from a small sample. By monitoring the disappearance and appearance of certain groups, it is possible to confirm wether compounds have formed. In this experiment, for example, the reactants are alcohols, whose IRs will show a large and broad absorption around 3500 cm 1. These hydroxide groups are eventually replaced during the reactions, and the final products will not contain any hydroxides. Therefore, the IR of the products will not show the large and broad hydroxide absorption. Monitoring the disappearance of the hydroxide stretch will allow the reaction progression to be monitored also. The complete disappearance of this stretch will confirm that a new product has been formed. However, IR ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Reflection On Capstone Nursing Practicum As N412L: Capstone Nursing Practicum comes to a close, I can reflect on my clinical experiences in this course and my progress towards meeting my defined behavioral objectives. At the beginning of this course, I set goals for myself, of which I planned to accomplish by the time this term came to a close. These objectives included: effective communication of the patient s care summary in SBAR format, safe and efficient administration of intravenous medications, successful performance of tracheostomy care, and accurate physical assessment and patient monitoring. While I still have much to learn as I step into the role of a graduate nurse, I have accomplished my behavioral objectives for this semester. Description Throughout the second half of the semester, I have not made any significant changes to my pre clinical routine. I still prepare and gather my supplies the evening beforehand, and I try to avoid during schoolwork in order to facilitate restful sleep. However, upon arriving to the unit, I have developed a familiarity with the staff and environment that has reduced my stress and anxiety levels, allowing me to focus more attention on my patient assignment for the day. Although we do not have assigned preceptors, I have developed a mentoring relationship with two of the nurses on the unit and will work with those staff members if available. • 40. Analysis Of The Man Who Was Almost A Man By Richard Wright What does it mean to be a man? This question is an abstract, complex, and profound inquiry into the essence of manhood that humanity may never truly discover a conclusive understanding. The various facets that encompass the concept of manhood are numerous, but the often unexplainable connection amongst power and manhood seems to be a mainstay in the opinions of men regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation. In Richard Wright s short story, The Man Who Was Almost a Man , Wright addresses the relationship between power and the desire to become a man. Throughout this literary piece, white men and black men engage in conflicts of power both within their ethnic communities and across racial groups. However, the aspiration of a young black boy named Dave to obtain power in order to ascend into manhood is the focal point of this short story. Dave s attempt at transitioning from a boy to a man is an arduous journey that arguably concludes in failure (Wright, 3 18). Although written to supply Dave a means to achieve power and manhood in a new environment, the conclusion of The Man Who Was Almost a Man could have been fashioned in an ironic and heartbreaking manner which would ultimately grant Dave the intangibles he seeks. In this same thought, composing an alternative ending in which Dave shoots at Mr. Hawkins house accidentally killing his own father, Bob Saunders, would have further addressed the dynamics surrounding boyhood and manhood hopefully revealing the ... • 42. Hemingway s Use of Economy In The End of Something Essay Hemingway s Use of Economy In The End of Something Hemingway is renowned for his brief, simple and economical writing style. This is present in the story The end of something , but how does he achieve this and what effect does it have on the story. Hemingway has an economical writing style, which is achieved through the repetition of words. An example of this is the use of the word said after any dialogue between Marjorie and Nick. This can seem quite juvenile in style, many authors would be more descriptive, but by repeating this simple and plain word Hemingway is commenting on the tediousness of their relationship. This is reinforced later when Nick remarks it isn t fun anymore . When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are several lines and words in the story that have double meanings and it is for us the reader to interpret them. An example of this is the word Lying in the following sentence Yes Nick said lying, his face on the blanket . Lying could mean one of two things, lying face down or not telling the truth. If we take the former meaning he could be lying because he doesn t want to look at Bill because he feels guilty, if we take the latter then it suggests that Nick is embarrassed about his actions and doesn t want to admit that he hurt Marjorie. The use of double entrĂ©es make the audience think more about there own perception and is also economical because it is using one word to convey two meanings. There is also a vagueness in the story where we the audience are meant to fill in the gaps. For example the relationship between Bill and Nick is not explained, are they just friends or is there an illusion to a homoerotic relationship? Making the audience an active reader is the one of the main functions of an economical style. The metaphors in the story require an active reader to perceive them. An example of an extended metaphor in the story is fishing. In this metaphor, Nick is a fish, for whom biting would be deciding to marry. Marjorie is hopeful that the fish are ... So my life started the same as any other inflated dead cow in Ada, Ohio. I was made in the second week of January which meant I was going to be used for one of the upcoming championship games. Before I was shipped out I was dreaming of being thrown by Tom Brady and Andrew Luck or being carried by Beast Mode and Eddie Lacy. After my fellow footballs and I heard we were going to Foxborough I knew we would play a role in a historic game that could be Brady s last chance for four rings or Luck s first of many super bowl appearances. We arrived a few days before the AFC Championship Game. I was thankfully one of the 6 outdoor footballs and not one of the balls only used for kicking or practice because I wanted to feel what it was like to be thrown by what could two of the best quarterbacks of all time when it is said and done. I also didn t want to be the football that missed a field goal because of the wind or snow that is present at a night game at Gillette. We were picked up by Jim McNally and John Jastremski, the Patriot equipment managers. They took us to their office and set us in the corner behind their desk. I was on top of the bag so I had a perfect view of their computers and I was stunned by what I saw. Jim and John were talking to Brady about how he wanted us prepared. • 47. Anxiety And Other Mood Disorders Charles Frankel said, Anxiety is the essential condition of intellectual and artistic creation and everything that is finest in human history . There is some evidence to support this idea that anxiety and other mood disorders are essential to many forms of art. In this article I will examine how mood disorders influence art, as well as give multiple examples of how mood disorders are portrayed in the following art forms: paintings, literature, and music. Before we can broach the topic of art and mood disorders we need to have a good basis of what mood disorders are. Mood disorders are defined as a perpetual and significant disturbance in a person s emotional state or mood (Lane, 2013). There are two main types of mood disorders: depressive disorders and bipolar disorders. Depressive disorders are characterized by frequent and persistent depressive states. Bipolar disorders, on the other hand, are characterized by fluctuations between both depressive and manic episodes, or lows and highs. I am also going to include generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in our mood disorder category because there are lifetime diagnoses of anxiety and depression that show extensive comorbidity , or in more simple terms, there is a high chance that someone who has anxiety will also have depression and vice versa (Mineka, 1998, p.382). Now that we know what mood disorders are we can look at their relationship with art and creativity. There have been past studies done that have shown that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Alan Mann Short Story Alan Mann s Life Story Alan Mann Southeastern Oklahoma State University Alan Mann s Life Story Alan Mann was born in 1974 in the city of Monroe, Michigan. Monroe is about 40 miles South of Detroit on Lake Erie. He has two older brothers named Jason and Michael. Alan s parents met when they were in the Navy. His father changed services to the Army and was stationed in Monroe as a recruiter after returning from the Vietnam War. Being born the son of an Army member makes one an Army Brat which means moving very often and attending several schools over one s lifetime (Baker, 2015). One of his earliest memories is of his mother bundling him up to go outside in the heavy snows of a Michigan winter storm. In 1978, the family moved to Mainz, Germany where he attended the first grade. While stationed there, the family visited many German castles, learned a lot of German history, went on Volksmarches which were noncompetitive walkathons (AVA) and met a lot of interesting people. In 1981, the family moved back to the United States to Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas. There, Alan attended Logan Heights Elementary School. His house was on a street that had a dead end. Beyond the dead end was literally the desert complete with cactuses, tumbleweeds, horned frogs, and tarantulas. He loved going over the border to Juarez, Mexico with the family and haggling with the merchants for items. Finally, in 1982 the family moved to Ft. Polk, Louisiana for his last move which is where his father retired from the military. In Louisiana, Alan attended Leesville Junior High and High School. He graduated with honors in 1992. He enrolled at Northwestern State University for the fall semester. However, he was working full time, had an hour long commute to classes, and a new girlfriend that would soon be his wife. His grades weren t very good. Alan decided perhaps he was ready for a break from school and was ready to do a little growing up . Having a long history of military service in his family, he looked to do his duty and serve also.
