The Kite Runner Character Analysis
Have you ever assumed what people might be from how they look or the last action they preformed?
Most people can assume that of Amir, a character who is presumed a selfish person who cares not
about what happens in other people s lives. Amir is the main protagonist in the novel ¨The Kite
Runner¨. A renowned Afghan man named Baba is his father, and a hazara boy named hassan is his best
friend/brother. The antagonist is Assef who creates many problems for Amir all throughout his life.
Amir appears to be a morally ambiguous character due for the acts of his childhood and adulthood.
Amir seems to be a very selfish person who will avoid any conflict that does not involve him. Amir is
the son of Baba and Hassan s best friend. Even though Hassan and Amir are great friends, Amir seems
to take their friendship for granted. On the day of the kite running tournament, Hassan gets mixed up
with gang who intend to rape him. They proceed to do so as Amir sits at the sidelines and watches.
Amir says, ¨I had one last chance to make a decision. One final opportunity to decide who I was going
to be. I could step into that alley, stand up for Hassan the way he d stood up for me all those times in
the past and accept whatever would happen to me. Or I could run. In the end I ran. I ran because I was
a coward. I was afraid of Assef and what he would do to me.¨ (Hosseini 77) Amir has the option to
help his friend who has been with him through thick and thin, but afraid of his own personal safety, he
runs. Leaving Hassan completely alone and helpless. Amir also desires attention from his father and
will think or do awful things to get it. Amir says, I d, ask Ali where Baba was, when he was coming
home, though I know full well he was at the construction site over looking this, supervising that. Didn
t that take patience? I already hated all the kids he was building the orphanage for; sometimes I d wish
they d all die along with their parents. In Amir s mind, getting Baba s attention is all that matters.
Sacrificing others for his own gain becomes a habit of his. Amir is aware of his selfishness and in
someway wants to make up for it.
Contrary to what Amir seems to be he actually is a good samaritan.

Super-Political Reform
Compared to the total amount of loose personal contributions to the upper limit, the super political

gold owners who explicitly request that the donation be used for certain media purposes will insist on
using the Superpolitical Action Committee approach. At the same time, personal direct contributions

political contacts between the person becomes a decisive factor in the whereabouts of contributions. In

American democracy environment where money and electoral politics are naturally linked, a system is

Adelaide s Beaches Analysis
The coast is the buffer between terrestrial land and the marine, it is the boundary of where land meets
water which is known as the coastline. Tides, waves and currents are what help form coastlines.
However, when waves meet or crash on the shore, they erode the land, leaving behind tiny parts of the
sea such as shells, seaweed and marine life. Although, over the past 30 years central beaches are
continually eroding because sand is pushed along the coast by waves. (BAC Australia, n.d) Coastlines
are badly affected by erosion and The Coast Protection Board is urgently needed to protect and
manage Adelaide s beaches. Without them managing the beaches, several of Adelaide s southern
metropolitan beaches will be left with very little sand on them. ... Show more content on

Geological history has ancient records of Australia being connected to Antarctica land mass, being
apart of Gondwanaland. This mass of land was mainly above sea level, which began to change due to
the tertiary period because of extreme climates and erosion. Australia was separated from
Gondwanaland approximately 55 million years ago. (Department for environmental heritage and
Aboriginal Affairs, n.d) The separation of the continents occurred along the continent that is now
known as the southern boundary. (ibid) The what seems like simple separation of land caused huge
movements and resurfaced a lot of land. For example, the St Vincent basin which is located
north/south of Australia was dramatically changed and formed step able rocks, and the Adelaide hills
were also formed. Sea levels were also dramatically sunken 120 meters below the average level than
what sea levels show today. In the 21st century the movements still exist and happen daily, however,
that are at a very slow rate.

New Issue Of New Federalism
New Federalism is known as commitment to returning powers to the state governments. Proposed by
President Ronald Reagan, who believed federal grants were just a scandal of imposing the federal
interests on the states. Reagan believed that federal government would allow a more efficient
government within the states and the nation. This reminded America of the main point now of the 10th
amendment that because the states are created under the the federal government, it should work for the
states, and not be overpowered. New Federalism is also known as Competitive Federalism due
consent struggle of the national and local government trying to be equal. Many states liked the idea of
New Federalism because new grants were given to states with less restrictions and states and they
were given a choice on how to spend these grants. With this concept, many laws were made in order to
enforce this New Federalism: the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act of 1995 disallowed Congress from
passing federal programs or services without consulting states on how they would be funded. The
Devolution Revolution in 1994, a movement led by former House Representative, Newt Gingrich, and
by republicans who desired to scale back the federal government though campaigning. Overall with
this time period, including now, we see how Ronald Reagan wanted to cease national government
power through the Supreme Court and appointed justices in the 1980s that would be dedicated to
returning power to the states. This

Immediate Response
When I read the play Accidental Death of an Anarchist for the first time, I took notes on post its.
Although I was looking for scenes that I could use in this notebook, I managed to touch on possible
themes that I thought showed up throughout the play. I also noted not just the characteristics of each
character, but what characteristics the cast member would have to have to play the part successfully
(in my opinion). As I finished the acts, I made a short summary on the most important content I had
touched on. This included themes I had noticed, characters involved, and points on interest in the play.
After I had recorded this and finished reading the play, I went through and recorded the following; My

Although my scene needed more of a stagnant set, with definitive types of furniture, the interactions
between the actors and the set were something that I was definitely interested in looking into. The cast
of Curious Incident also had an insane amount of energy, which was necessary for that type of show.
Accidental Death of an Anarchist is similar in energy level (if done correctly), so the ways that the
actors harnessed their energy in Curious Incident was of great interest to me. While reading this script
and thinking about how to get my actors to achieve the energy necessary for this show, I thought about
the times in Curious Incident where the energy was at its highest, and where the energy was at its
lowest. A very memorable scene in Curious Incident that surprisingly had an extreme amount of
energy was the scene when Christopher Boone (protagonist) and his father, Ed, have a completely
silent moment for at least five minutes. It was an extremely powerful scene because the connection the
actors had, and how they controlled their entire body to convey a message without using

The Roman Colosseum Of Rome
When I ask you to imagine Italy and all the vast architecture, what do picture? I am going to assume
you would picture colosseums. The piece of art I chose to research was the granddaddy of them all,
the Roman Colosseum. This is potentially the most famous monument to survive the classical period.
Today, the Colosseum is one of Rome s most popular tourist attractions, attracting millions of visitors
every year. This massive amphitheater is located in the center of Rome, Italy. During ancient roman
times these massive amphitheaters were commonly placed around cities. Eventually there were well
over 250 amphitheaters in the Roman empire (Hopkins). However, no other amphitheater competes in
size. What sparked the want to build such a massive amphitheater? Why is this so important? Years
prior to the construction of the Colosseum, Rome was dealing with a massive civil war which
destroyed the city. At the time of construction, Rome s emperor was Vespasian s and his decision to
build the Colosseum on the site of Nero s lake can be seen as a gesture of returning a part of the city to
the people which emperor Nero had appropriated for his own use (Roman Colosseum History).
However, Vespasian never saw the completion of his Colosseum due to his untimely death. His son,
Titus would go on to open the Colosseum to the public in AD 80. The Colosseum remained in service
for 450 years. The Colosseum is also known as The Flavian Amphitheatre (Roman). The Colosseum

Frida Kahlo And The Mexican Community
Frida Kahlo once said At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can. There is
no better person to say this than Kahlo, whose life was filled with pain and sadness. She was one of
the most influential artists of her time, especially in the Mexican community.. The most important
aspects of her life were her multicultural background, her tragic accident she survived as a teen, her
relationship with Diego Rivera, her death, and her face as a product.
Frida Kahlo was born Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón, July 6th, 1907, in Coyoacan,
Mexico. Her mother, Matilde Calderon y Gonzalez, was of indigenous and Spanish descent. Her
father, Wilhelm Kahlo, was German. The combinations of the two heritages gave Frida a rich cultural
background, which was a key part of her artwork. Kahlo developed polio at the young age of 6, which
left one of her legs thinner and weaker than the other one. It is also speculated that she may have had
spina bifida, which would also hinder the growth of her leg. Although she suffered from these
afflictions, her father encouraged her to be active and participate in sports, such as swimming,
wrestling and boxing. It would be September 17, 1925, that Kahlo s life would be changed forever. It
was a normal day, and Kahlo had been out shopping with her boyfriend, Alex Gomez Arias. They
decided to board a bus that would take them back home to Coyoacan. A streetcar collided with the bus
that the couple were on, and Kahlo was

American Involvement In The United States Essay
The role of the United States now should be less involved with other countries because the United
State gets involved with other places too quickly even if it is right or wrong. Our country also takes
land that will benefit us more than others all for the wrong reasons. Also we are going head on head
with other countries for power and while fighting for power other groups are evolving from conflicts.
The United States gets involved in other countries even if it is not necessary. According to Mark
Twain he once said that it is going against our traditions and we are entering in an unjust and trivial
war. This war is against helpless people and robbery. The United States should be ashamed about the
choices that we make and how we go through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We did this because we wanted to be able to trade sugar with them and have a navel base. Geography
Cuba was in a great location. In Fidel Castro s offer with the United States he said that the United
States should resume sugar purchase from Cuba. The trade between these two places turned out to
benefit both but without us taking control over Cuba and saying we were helping them then none of
the trade would happened. Once we came into Cuba to help we pushed the people in a portion on the
land they could have and took the rest for our own good.
In present day now we still have problems with power between countries now. In an article by Toby
Craig Jones he starts out saying how the in the Middle East the oil production has enchanted global
powers and the United States has been particularly powerful. It is surprising on how we are the ones in
power even though we aren t the ones producing the oil. All this oil production is happening in the
Middle East where Americans aren t really liked because we had troops their taking control of things.
From being over there more and more terrorist groups are rising trying to take over the power. All
countries are fighting for the same thing, power.
Overall, the role of the United States should be less involved due to past and present events. Not only
do we do thing for all the wrong reasons people still support them even of it going against their
morals. Please keep

Racial Tensions In America
As of recent the trending tales of police brutality have filled headlines and brought light to racial
tensions that have been brewing in America for centuries. We have seen over the past couple of years
an alarming increase of shootings in the African American community by law enforcement. In like
manner, we have seen a series of retaliation tactics and protest, both violent and peaceful. And as we
watch things unfold we question whether or not there is a real solution to the racial tensions in
America. Ironically, America is considered the melting pot of the world but still promotes the theories
of a homogeneous community and sways away from contact zones. Pratt defines contact zones as a

contact zones is gaining the perspectives from the marginalized people of society. When marginalized
people are able to voice their own perspectives and experiences we are able to emphasize and receive
a more transparent representation. For example, we can not seek understanding on the topics of racial
tensions and police brutality, without first finding out the authentic perception of African Americans
and other marginalized cultures who fall under the oppression of racism in America. Marginalized

Managers of CPB employees are held to the same standards of conduct as their employees. In
addition, according to paragraph 5.5 of the standards of conduct (Augilar, 2012), they are also charged
with providing advice and guidance to the employees under their command, and they must also clear
any confusion those employees might have with the document. Thus, managers are not only expected
to know the standards of conduct, but must be able to pass judgement on what is ethical in the context
of the document. Because the standards are always applicable to employees, managers must be
available to serve as mentors to their employees around the clock as well. While it could be argued
that the standards are ridiculously high, the organizational culture of the Border Patrol is similar to the
military. It is expected that federal agents are held to a higher standard due to their duty to the nation.

Impact On Technology And Technology
The development of technology is upon the many fields of knowledge, including historical, language
learning, mathematical, etc. Every single moment of our day is affected due to the inventions of years
ago, from turning on a light switch to cooking breakfast. An invention that still affects us today and
will continue to do so is a computer. Although the computer continues to modernize as time goes by, it
has positively impacted the way a student s technology literacy knowledge and skills are developed
for professional success. Writing tools, such as pen and paper, has modernized to meet our essential
needs in a classroom environment. Technology continues to advance so much that we could not live a
day without it like a writer cannot live without writing. Although personal computers were not initially
meant for word processing either, through that has become one of their primary functions (Baron 646).
When computers were first introduced in a classroom environment, teachers feared students would
forget how to properly spell, but now teachers complain if students do not double check their spelling
when turning in their papers. A student s literacy knowledge and skills development are not only
advancing in spelling, but their vocabulary is expanding as well. Success in literacy is measured by
what a student can do with it, not what they know about texts and print. Having a computer in hand

Investigating The Bonding Of A Carbohydrate
Carbohydrate Analysis
Introduction and Purpose Carbohydrates are organic compounds that consist of carbon, oxygen, and
hydrogen. There are four different ways that carbohydrates can be classified: monosaccharides,
oligosaccharides, and polysaccharides. Monosaccharides are the simplest sugars. They are aliphatic
aldehydes or ketones and most have five or six carbon atoms. Oligosaccharides are two
monosaccharides linked together by the elimination of a water molecule which allows the glycosidic
bond can form. Polysaccharides contain more than one glycosidic bond and are the heaviest and most
prominent natural forms of carbohydrates (Mcclemmon). Carbohydrates also have the potential to be
reducing sugars. This means they have a free aldehyde or ketone group that is capable of acting as a
reducing agent. All monosaccharides are reducing sugars and the other forms have the potential to be
one. There are several different ways to identify the bonding of a carbohydrate in the lab. In this lab,
combinations of several different tests were used in order to determine which functional groups were
present. Benedict s and Barfoed s tests both test for the presence of a reducing sugar. Benedict s
reagent produces a red precipitate when heated in a the presence of a reducing sugar. Barfoed s
reagent tests for reducing sugar as well, but does not test for it in disaccharides, so this test is used to
distinguish between monosaccharides and disaccharides. Disaccharides are not oxidized

Tikki Tgii Movie And Movie Analysis
Rikki Tikki Tavi (Compare and Contrast)
Danger gleams like sunshine to a brave man s eyes. Rikki Tikki Tavi is a story about a fight between
the most feared snake in the garden a King Cobra, and a mongoose who will not stand for his cruelty
in a bungalow in India to protect the freedom of all the animals. An animated movie about the story
was filmed and a novella was written to tell the story. There were many differences and similarities
between the two stories, such as the food Rikki Tikki Tavi ate in the movie versus the novella, him
having a war cry and a motto in the book, however, not a war cry, but a motto in the movie, and what

According to the book Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rudyard Kipling, he could fluff up his tail till it looked like
a bottlebrush, and his war cry as he scuttled through the long grass was Rikk tikk tikki tikki tchk!
(Kipling 143). The novella also states, It is the hardest thing in the world to frighten a mongoose,
because he is eaten up from nose to tail with curiosity. The motto of all the mongoose family is Run

and throughout the book, Rikki Tikki had no war cry, however he did have a motto. This proves that
another difference between the Rikki Tikki Tavi movie and book is that in the book, Rikki had a war
cry, but in the movie, Rikki had no war cry.
The final difference between the movie and the book of Rikki Tikki Tavi is that while Rikki Tikki is
exploring the bungalow of Segowlee, he does more in the book than in the movie. The book reads,
Then Rikki tikki went out into the garden to see what was to be seen. It was a large garden, only half

of bamboos; and thickets of high grass. (Kipling 145). The story also states, He spent all that day

Public Policy Analysis Model
1. Public policy is a set of laws that are enacted to reach a specific goal. These goals are genuinely
made to be for the interest of the greater good, and the majority of people. For example, the policy for
red light cameras in Rochester was enacted to help reduce the accident rates from people running red
lights. Even though this causes people to pay fees for getting caught by the cameras, the greater good
is helped because there are less traffic accidents. Public policy helps steer the country in the ways that
our great minds think would be the best direction for the majority.
a. Discussed in class were 6 models of policy making. The first is the institutional model, it stresses
the opportunities and constraints on policy that are a part of the very structure of the American

Policy analysis is different from academic research as academic research is done through conducting
studies on samples that are usually from a much small grouped that policy analysts use. Academic
researchers usually do not have access to the same resources that government employees will have

Journalism however is much different than policy analysis. Journalist while able to find credible
sources, it is harder for them to substantiate their claims. Journalist usually conduct their research
through interviews rather than sample testing which is considered not as reliable.

Tone Of Letter From Birmingham Jail
Well known speaker, writer, and so much more, Martin Luther King Jr., in his letter, Letter from
Birmingham Jail, provides a powerful and insightful look into what it is like being a black person
during the time when America was in a battle, so to speak, against segregation. Kings purpose is to
provide his readers, eight clergymen whom called his actions unwise and untimely (King 800), with
an insight on what it is like trying to make a change in the world through peaceful negotiation but
continually getting little to no result. He provides a compelling tone in order to gain the sympathy of

with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action ; who
paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man s freedom; who lives by a mythical
concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a more convenient season. ( King
805 ) He continues to elaborate on why he is so disappointed in the white community until he begins
to shift to a different route leading to the church, Christians, and even God. He ends his letter by
apologizing to the clergymen for writing such a long letter, explaining that the only reason his letter is
so long is because of where he is with nothing better to do than to write, think and pray.

justified and necessary. (Kirszner and Mandell 102) King is successfully able to portray his thoughts
and feelings to his readers by explaining why it is necessary to take more forceful measures but also

Celtic went down. Also, scientists have discovered many different celtic villages. The Hallstatt village

oncology, and who seeks to help individuals by creatively solving medical issues.
Years ago, my avid interest in neuroscience originated from reading my aunt s medical dictionary;
however, growing up, greater complexities enshrouded my mind. The brain s ability to communicate
with different organs provides copious possibilities; thus, the brain s fallibility is fascinating.
Miscommunications in the central nervous system alone can often produce problems. Therefore, the
intricate mistakes morph into irrevocable diseases that I want to solve.
Fencing, like neuroscience, immensely invigorates my mind and body. Originally designed as a
temporary hobby, the sport serves as an escape and as artistry. Through tactical and technical
maneuvers, fencing teaches me about grace and creative duplicity. Thus, I can toy with my opponents
like a cat toys with a mouse. Consequently, putting on my mask helps me escape into a completely
different world that engenders omnipotence. Through intoxicating adrenaline, I crush my physical and
emotional barriers, by transforming into anyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Blake Lively Embodies The Characteristics Of An Epic Hero
When thinking of a hero people usually think of someone who wears a cape, comes from another
planet, and/or has a superpower. Though that is true epic heroes grow beyond superpowers and capes.
While epic heroes have many of the same characteristics as a superhero they act much different. A
great example of an epic hero would be Blake Lively. Blake Lively embodies the characteristics of an
epic hero because she had a noble birth, humility, and has national heroism. Blake Lively is a perfect
example of someone who had a noble birth. When the author writes, Her father, Ernie, was an actor

The Moment I Walked Into St. Mary s Cathedral
From the moment I walked into St. Mary s Cathedral, I felt out of place. I thought that I would know
what to expect since I have gone to Lutheran churches my entire life. To start with, I was unsure what
to do with the font of holy water when I walked to into the cathedral. I later found out that people who
enter are supposed to dip their fingers in it, and they are to make the sign of the cross with their
fingers. Then as I saw others approach their pews they did some sort of one legged kneel before sitting
down, which I unsuccessfully attempted. Once the service started, I became increasingly lost. I have
grown accustomed to following along to the liturgy in either a bulletin or a book, but there were
neither to be found. The priest would say phrases from his service book, and then everyone in the
congregation would respond with what I assume to be memorized responses. The only times I
absolutely knew what was going on was during the hymns and the readings due to both of these being
in the hymnals in the pews. To make matters worse, there were various portions of the worship service
such as the Apostles Creed or the Lord s Prayer where I thought I knew what to say, but the wording
would end up different. Finally, I had heard before that Catholics kneel a lot during services, but I was
not prepared at all for the length of kneeling that occurred once the priest started the part of the service
related to the Eucharist, better known to me as Holy Communion.

The Law Enforcement Is Cracking Down Harder Than A Little...
These days, it seems like almost everyone you know is getting caught behind the wheel with a little
too much spirit. Law enforcement is cracking down harder than ever on drunk driving, to the point
where even one beverage could get you into big trouble!
So, what exactly are the stats? In 2012, in Arizona alone, there were 32,174 DUI arrests. In 2013, the
number was 31,892. And in 2014, there were 28,471 DUI arrests. While the numbers are somewhat
decreasing, they are still very high. (For more on these statistics see: DUI Arrests Down for 3rd Year
on Arizona Highways ).
The consequences of a DUI, driving under the influence, (also known as a DWI, driving while
impaired) are harsh. Below are the DUI Dos and Don ts you need to know in case you get behind the
wheel after drinking, get pulled over, and/or find yourself facing DUI charges:
DO know the amount of tolerable blood alcohol content (BAC) for you. If you are under 21, there is a
ZERO TOLERANCE policy. No alcohol whatsoever is acceptable. If you are 21 or older, you are
permitted to drive with a BAC of .08%. If you are a commercial driver with a commercial license, a
BAC of .04% is allowed.
DO know the consequences if you refuse a chemical test. Arizona has an IMPLIED CONSENT LAW.
This means that if you are pulled over and refuse to submit to a chemical test, you will automatically
be subject to a fine and suspension of your license anywhere from one to two years.

The Glorified Act Of War By Timothy Findley And Kurt Vonnegut
The glorified act of war is often staged in historical literature by idolizing the soldiers who partake in
the event. Soldiers are made to seem intrepid, ruthless and muscular, each with a ceaseless desire to
fight valiantly for their countries. Timothy Findley and Kurt Vonnegut discard this typical hero
archetype in their anti war novels by portraying the soldiers who fight in the war as the men they are,
not as the templates of heroes they are expected to fit, in furtherance of strengthening their anti war
stances. Findley and Vonnegut illustrate their protagonists as a tragic hero and an anti hero,
respectively, in order to juxtapose the atrocities of war with the flawed humanness of man and to

Guided by his undying love for his sister, Robert s call to action is intrinsically motivated by an ironic
catalyst that leads to his own eventual death; the desire to preserve life. At the climax of the novel,
Robert s courage tempers out his Achilles heel of introverted moral justness. His ascendance to the
position of officer is only natural considering that his resilience and persistence strengthen
significantly as he begins to imitate the hero archetype upheld by most war novels, though his
concealed struggles with morality and obedience as exposed by his actions confirm him to be a tragic
hero. Even with his elevated position, Robert demonstrates many instances of nurturing as he develops
into a strong man weathered by the war, as opposed to the typical hardening experienced by most men
on the front lines. The telltale quality of morality demonstrated only by a tragic hero is a tragic flaw in
itself, as it forces acts that would otherwise be self indulgent to take on an air of humility. The man

The Social Influence Of Hip Hop Music
In the last three decades, Hip Hop music has evolved into one of the largest youth influencers.
Uplifting the youth, Hip Hop provides a voice to a group of people trying to deliver a message.

As the genre of Hip Hop and Rap spread around the world, it became a social and cultural platform for
artists. Most people assume that it has the biggest influence on the black community in America, but
the music has spread far beyond that specific audience. Critics describe Hip Hop music as
homophobic, racist, vulgar, and violent. Tricia Rose contradicts this statement perfectly: Rappers
lyrics really do offer gripping tales of loss, sorrow, exploitation, rage, confinement, hopelessness, and
despair about conditions that are denied in the larger society ( The Role Of Hip Hop ). It is imporant to
see past the innapropriate langauge and listen to the actual message of the song, because in most
scenarios the message outweighs the vulgar words.
As soon as this music genre became popular among teens and young adults, a plethora of songs came
out with important social messages. In the society we live in today, suicide is a prominent issue. Very
recently, three very popular artists teamed up to use their following to promote the message of suicide
prevention. Logic, Alessia Cara, and DJ Khalid produced a song called 1 800 273 8255, the title being

American popular culture has always had a great influence on Japan. Thus, the design of the Tokyo
Disneyland was virtually identical to the Anaheim Disneyland. Most aspects of the Tokyo Disneyland
remained as American as possible. Second, there is an increasing trend in Japan toward leisure. The
Tokyo Disneyland had even become a special cultural haven in Japan. Despite the different way of life
between Japan and the U.S., Japanese people maintained great interests in the Disney s brand of
entertainment. The annual festive party on the New Year s Day and Evening has been an extremely
popular celebration. And feedbacks from Tokyo Disneyland visitors were overwhelmingly positive. As
a result, managers of Disney were convinced that everything they imported that worked in the U.S.

Ethnic And Ethnic Conflict In The Rwanda s Genocide
Rwanda is a small landlocked East African country with a rich cultural background and tightly knit
community it was a small country primarily surviving as an agricultural economy, with one of the
highest population densities in Africa. Rwanda had previously gained independence from Belgium on
July first, 1962, but as tensions rose between the majority population the Hutu, and the minority
population the Tutsi, violence broke out leading to the beginning of a full fledged genocide that began
on April 6, 1994, and would take between 500,000 to 1 million lives of the Rwandan people.
The sociological perspective that lead to the beginning of this genocide is extremely unique, as most
ethnic conflict and violence in history has occurred due to a conflict within two ethnic groups beliefs
and cultures, yet in the case of the Tutsi and Hutu, they had very similar racial and cultural traits. It
was rather a division of socio economic status between the pastoralists being the Tutsi, and the
agriculturists representing the Hutu. Even more, this difference between the Tutsi and Hutu is a open
class system, as a Hutu could become a Tutsi if they acquired cattle and vice versa. This class mobility
and lack of ethnic and cultural conflict makes this situation so unique given its sociological
perspective. Ethnic identity became so powerful in the Rwandan culture because Under Belgian rule,
the difference in status between the Hutu and Tutsi became socially fixed, the entire

Lenovo Competitive Advantage
3.1 Recommended Future strategic direction to attain competitive advantage
3.1.1 Proposed strategy
It is important for a company to choose a relevant internationalization strategy in order to attain
competitive advantage. According to Philip Kotler and Gary Armstrong, a company can attain
competitive advantage when the company is able to perform in one or more ways that competitors
cannot or will not match (Philip Kotler, Gary Armstrong, 2007, p182)
As Lenovo has been successfully internationalizing into other country by using joint venture and FDI

cut down their cost in order to be able to sell product with lower price. As the Lenovo is
manufacturing their product in China which is one of the low cost country in the world, they can
easily cut down their production cost there. Hence, the pressure of global integration in cost reduction
is identified there.
The advantages that global integration can give to Lenovo through cost leadership are that they can
help Lenovo to save costs and achieve global efficiencies. They can also improve the quality of

History Of Managed Care And Health Maintenance Organizations
Those of us who have served in the Military a very familiar with managed care, we may not totally
understand the concept of managed cared but are recipients of it daily. Unless there is a heated
political debate about health care reform we usually don t worry about health care reform. Health care
cost is not something that we worry about; after all the government takes care of all our medical
needs, even when we are seen out on the economy. The only time we might the troubles of health cost
might visit our door steps occur when family members decided to see an out of network provider, we

of managed care and Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs). Additional, we ll take a look at how

What is managed care and where did it come from? According to Medicaid. Gov, managed care is a
health care delivery system organized to managed cost, utilization, and quality (Medicaid.gov, 2014).
The begins of managed care can be dated back to 1910, consumers paid $.50 a month for medical

The credibility of a person depends on many different elements. Credibility can pertain to
trustworthiness and expertise. Trustworthiness is affected by things like reliability and characteristics
of the person. Expertise is affected by credentials and proven skill (Flanagin, Metzger, 4). The same
person may be perceived as credible at one point in time, but may lack credibility later in time.
Credibility is largely based on what we as a society are experiencing during that time period. Small
things may affect credibility that we would not originally think to include. If a person were to see an
ad every day about a certain lawyer, they might think of the lawyer if it comes a time for them to need
a lawyer. But if someone were to hear about how wonderful a certain lawyer is from a friend or
coworker, that person would be more likely to use that lawyer if the need arose. It stands to reason that
people are more likely to trust people they know blindly when it comes to credibility. Appearance is
another aspect of credibility that would not always be considered. Much of the time it is subconscious,
but people are more likely to trust a person or service if the staff or spokesperson is attractive

St. Augustine s Confessions
St. Augustine s Confessions has often been referred to as a book undertaking the subject of
conversion. Throughout Augustine of Hippo s life he underwent several conversions so it is
unsurprising that those experiences influenced his books. Although he was baptized as a Christian at
birth, he rejected Christianity until his final conversion at age thirty. After his conversion and
eventually beginning a monastic life he became the most important theologian in Christian history
until the Reformation. His Confessions was the first spiritual autobiography, and is said to represent
humanities struggle to find the divine, though the triumphant ending of man discovering the divine is
anticipated from the beginning. Augustine began his religious life as a Manichaeist, joining them
when he was only seventeen and staying in that religion for nine years. However he could not find the
answers he sought with the Manichaeists, so he moved to Rome and then on the Milan where he
became involved with Neoplatonism. However he was still unable to find answers to his questions or
freedom from his sins. It was not until he met Bishop Ambrose that his life was changed. He gained a
greater understanding of the Bible and the letters of St. Paul made an impact on him. One early
hesitation in his desire to convert was that he would have to give up his mistress, which did not
consider himself ready to do. However in 384 he had a great mystical experience, he was in his garden

The Heroic Significance of Christ in The Dream of the Rood...
The Heroic Significance of Christ in The Dream of the Rood
Incorporating traditional Anglo Saxon beliefs of heroism with the image of Christ on the cross allows
the poet of The Dream of the Rood to effectively communicate the benefits of Christianity to pagan
warriors. By comparing characteristics, duties, and treatment of heroes in Beowulf and the Battle of
Maldon to the depiction of Christ in The Dream of the Rood, it becomes evident that the image of
Christ is altered to mirror that of heroic warriors. Through this melding of heroic beliefs and
Christianity, the poet of Rood is able to show how Christ can become the ultimate ring giver or Lord.

The Christ depicted in this passage willingly accepts his battle on the cross and because of this act the
poet then goes on to describe Christ as a warrior , strong, and stouthearted. Christ is not portrayed as a
meek and humble man resigned to his task as savior and lord. Within this portion of the text, he
becomes a bold warrior climbing the cross as if going into battle. At the end of the poem, the narrator
looks to Christ and the cross for protection.
Furthermore, the primary duty of a hero is to provide his kinsmen with great treasure and weaponry.
Beowulf fulfills this duty by stating Behold this treasure #8230; that I have been allowed to leave my
people #8230; (Beowulf 91) to Wiglaf after defeating the dragon. The warriors in The Battle of
Maldon describe their Lord and hero as a treasure giver, and also a ring giver. The warriors in both of
these texts reflect on all that their lords or heroes provide for them. It is through this gratification for
material wealth that kinsmen feel so indebted to fighting for their lord. Wiglaf illustrates this concept
when he remembers the bountiful gifts bestowed upon him (Beowulf 88) and finds that he could not
hold back (Beowulf 88) from his lord s side. Christ also fulfills this duty of a hero by bestowing many
wonderful gifts and treasures upon any man who will follow Him faithfully. The treasures described in
the poem

Thomas Edison Qualities
Throughout history, the world has seen it fair share of leaders across the globe, from resilient
presidents to evil dictators. When the word leader is thrown around, the names Barack Obama and
Martin Luther King Jr. are often used as its definition, but a leader is rarely so cut and dry. A leader
defines itself, blazing its own path and helping others follow the lead. This thought can be
demonstrated in Thomas Edison. A true leader in his field, Edison transformed the world we know
today and how it came to be. The humble light bulb, taken for granted in the modern age, was once
revolutionized by Edison, who innovated the design to make the bulb burn brighter for longer. He was
responsible for the most primitive assembly line, but it did not produce cars or consumer goods, it
produced ideas on a consistent basis. Edison is often credited with the discovery of the research lab,
which applied the principles of mass production to ideas and employed large scale teamwork.
Throughout his life, Edison would often fail, but would always have the creativity and persistence to
solve the next problem placed in his lap. He wanted to make a change in the world and without that
will power, the United States may not be as advanced as it is today. A man of extraordinary character
and strong leadership, Edison is an excellent role model to follow as I pursue a career in engineering.

Jackie Robinson Is Not The Best African American Baseball...
Although Jackie Robinson was not the best African American baseball player of his time, his attitude
and ability to handle racist harassment led the way for the rest of his race to play Major League

become more easily accepted into other aspects of life. Jackie s impact in the world for the black

According to Jessie Jackson, A champion wins a World Series or an Olympic event and is hoisted on

Jackie Robinson a hero to African Americans. Robinson s achievement goes beyond the statistics and

pocket of my favorite navy blue hoodie. For the first time in my life, a sweeping ocean physically
separated me from my friends and family, and I was living with strangers. It was frightening, but that
didn t stop me. I was determined to see the world with my own two eyes, not just through the pages of
a book or dinnertime

Pros And Cons Of Fast Food
Fast food is becoming more common as the years pass us. The convenience and time saving that come
with fast food make it that much more desirable. Research has documented that low income urban
youth are at risk for obesity and related health problems. (Issner, J.H., Mucka, L.E. Barnett, D. J Child
Fam Stud (2017) 26: 548) But with fast food comes its pros and cons, and placing it in schools can be
very detrimental. There is a big debacle on if schools should sell fast food or not. With how things
would have been done in the past, it seems that we shouldn t change something that has been going
well for so long. On another note, though schools are always looking for new ways to cut costs.

2009). (International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 14(10), 1255.) By
consuming large amounts of fast food daily, our bodies do not get the recommended nutrition we need.
For children, this is because they are still growing and they need a lot more to help their bodies
perform daily tasks. By developing a dependency on high saturated fats and little nutrients, they
become accustomed to eating poorly and a higher risk of becoming obese and developing health
concerns over time. Children are smart and learn by example, if they are taught that it is ok to
consume unhealthy choices daily, it will become a lot harder later on to take control of the choices
they make especially when their health is on the line. The most significant example is we teach
students health in schools and making right decisions and by contradicting this and feeding them fast
food would make our curriculum wrong by not setting a good example. Children need healthier
options to help with their active lifestyles. They need energy for learning and improving their bodies
be set up for success versus being lethargic and non engaged. By consuming fast food, you are not
receiving the nutrients you need, your body needs healthier options, and by giving your body a meal
full of fat and chemicals, you

Statement of Background and Professional Goals
I would like to request a program transfer from the Faculty of Science to the Faculty of Kinesiology. I
am currently in First Year as a fulltime student at University of New Brunswick.
I think that a program transfer to the Faculty of Kinesiology would help me with my career goals
because it seems like a much more streamlined approach to the medical field than the Science
program here at UNB. As it is common knowledge that getting into medical school is a hard task, it
just makes sense to give yourself the best shot at achieving that goal. Having courses that aim you in
that direction help, as well as having the opportunities to go and see a medicine facility. Everyone that

My time in the Diagnostic Imaging department showed me how important the machines and the
images they produce are to help people. Not only can it help diagnose illnesses and broken bones, but
are also used to help with proper placements of medical aids and surgeries. It is my goal to be able to
do the problem solving and knowledge application necessary to help people with their health through
the images created. For me, that would be such a rewarding experience.
I am currently employed at Canadian Tire, but am in the process of finding a job at Lake of the Woods
District Hospital in my hometown of Kenora, Ontario. I did a Co op placement in the local hospital in
Grade 11. I did a placement in the Diagnostic Imagery department as well as a nursing post on the
Pre/Post Operation floor and the ICU. That semester helped me solidify my interest in pursuing a
career in the health field
I am an athlete on UNB Varsity Reds Women s swim team. Before coming to Fredericton, I was part
of Kenora Swimming Sharks in my hometown of Kenora, Ontario. I was involved with the team for 9
years and was the team captain during my last year. The current team captains of the Kenora
Swimming Sharks are in constant contact with me for help with decisions and ideas for the team. My
later years on the swim team had me involved with helping organize events and helping out the
coaches with the younger

The Class System
The class system is commonly known throughout the world, although some countries admit its
existence and adhere to it more readily than others. In the US, sociologists have broken down the
typical three classes of upper, middle and lower into six classes: upper/super class, upper middle,
middle, working, working poor, and underclass. These groupings better illustrate the current state of
society, and the variances that exist between them. The superclass is the elite. They generally are in
this class due to income from outside of work, such as gaining an inheritance. This also includes
captains of industry or other prestigious work positions, and household income is $2 million (Doob,
2013, p. 78). This group is the 1% that was rallied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s often believed that one will remain in the social class to which they were born, but structural
mobility has made a great impact on that concept. Structural mobility describes the technological or
institutional change [that] creates an increase or decrease in jobs within a certain class (Doob, 2013, p.
87). In the last few decades, this has generally served to create downward intergenerational mobility,
because the jobs that were held by baby boomers and caused upward social mobility for them have
now been replaced by technology or eliminated altogether. Younger generations have found
themselves facing competition not only from their peers, but from the machines that are quickly being
used to reduce

Yu-Gi-Oh Game Analysis
1. In the game of Yu Gi Oh, there is a lot of give and take when it comes to cards. When determining
whether a card is good or not, I often look at just the good parts of the effect and not the drawbacks.
For example, there is a card called Card of Demise. This card allows you to draw until you have 3
cards in your hand, but you cannot do damage to your opponent for the rest of the turn, you send your
entire hand to the Graveyard during the End Phase, and you cannot Special Summon during the turn
you activate this card. While there are some clear negatives to the card, I overlook those and really
only look at the fact that you can draw up to 3 cards, which is unprecedented in Yu Gi Oh. While the
creators of the card, Konami, try to make Card ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One cannot see the Yu Gi Oh community without a glimpse of bandwagon. While in the card game
almost anything can be played within the entire 20 year history, people often flock to bandwagoning
the quote best decks. It has even gotten to the point where people come up with a Tier List to place
decks from best to worst, but these list are subjective. While there is potential for any deck to do well
in a tournament, one will see the same decks top because of the numbers that represent those decks at
a tournament because of bandwagoning. With groupthink, the community believes those decks to be
the best and are the decks that are looked at when it is time to hit cards on the Ban

Most people can assume that of Amir, a character who is presumed a selfish person who cares not about what happens in other people s lives. Amir is the main protagonist in the novel ¨The Kite Runner¨. A renowned Afghan man named Baba is his father, and a hazara boy named hassan is his best friend/brother. The antagonist is Assef who creates many problems for Amir all throughout his life. Amir appears to be a morally ambiguous character due for the acts of his childhood and adulthood. Amir seems to be a very selfish person who will avoid any conflict that does not involve him. Amir is the son of Baba and Hassan s best friend. Even though Hassan and Amir are great friends, Amir seems to take their friendship for granted. On the day of the kite running tournament, Hassan gets mixed up with gang who intend to rape him. They proceed to do so as Amir sits at the sidelines and watches. Amir says, ¨I had one last chance to make a decision. One final opportunity to decide who I was going to be. I could step into that alley, stand up for Hassan the way he d stood up for me all those times in the past and accept whatever would happen to me. Or I could run. In the end I ran. I ran because I was a coward. I was afraid of Assef and what he would do to me.¨ (Hosseini 77) Amir has the option to help his friend who has been with him through thick and thin, but afraid of his own personal safety, he runs. Leaving Hassan completely alone and helpless. Amir also desires attention from his father and will think or do awful things to get it. Amir says, I d, ask Ali where Baba was, when he was coming home, though I know full well he was at the construction site over looking this, supervising that. Didn t that take patience? I already hated all the kids he was building the orphanage for; sometimes I d wish they d all die along with their parents. In Amir s mind, getting Baba s attention is all that matters. Sacrificing others for his own gain becomes a habit of his. Amir is aware of his selfishness and in someway wants to make up for it. Contrary to what Amir seems to be he actually is a good samaritan. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Roman Colosseum Of Rome When I ask you to imagine Italy and all the vast architecture, what do picture? I am going to assume you would picture colosseums. The piece of art I chose to research was the granddaddy of them all, the Roman Colosseum. This is potentially the most famous monument to survive the classical period. Today, the Colosseum is one of Rome s most popular tourist attractions, attracting millions of visitors every year. This massive amphitheater is located in the center of Rome, Italy. During ancient roman times these massive amphitheaters were commonly placed around cities. Eventually there were well over 250 amphitheaters in the Roman empire (Hopkins). However, no other amphitheater competes in size. What sparked the want to build such a massive amphitheater? Why is this so important? Years prior to the construction of the Colosseum, Rome was dealing with a massive civil war which destroyed the city. At the time of construction, Rome s emperor was Vespasian s and his decision to build the Colosseum on the site of Nero s lake can be seen as a gesture of returning a part of the city to the people which emperor Nero had appropriated for his own use (Roman Colosseum History). However, Vespasian never saw the completion of his Colosseum due to his untimely death. His son, Titus would go on to open the Colosseum to the public in AD 80. There is no better person to say this than Kahlo, whose life was filled with pain and sadness. She was one of the most influential artists of her time, especially in the Mexican community.. The most important aspects of her life were her multicultural background, her tragic accident she survived as a teen, her relationship with Diego Rivera, her death, and her face as a product. Frida Kahlo was born Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón, July 6th, 1907, in Coyoacan, Mexico. Her mother, Matilde Calderon y Gonzalez, was of indigenous and Spanish descent. Her father, Wilhelm Kahlo, was German. The combinations of the two heritages gave Frida a rich cultural background, which was a key part of her artwork. Kahlo developed polio at the young age of 6, which left one of her legs thinner and weaker than the other one. It is also speculated that she may have had spina bifida, which would also hinder the growth of her leg. Although she suffered from these afflictions, her father encouraged her to be active and participate in sports, such as swimming, wrestling and boxing. It would be September 17, 1925, that Kahlo s life would be changed forever. It was a normal day, and Kahlo had been out shopping with her boyfriend, Alex Gomez Arias. • 14. Investigating The Bonding Of A Carbohydrate Carbohydrate Analysis Introduction and Purpose Carbohydrates are organic compounds that consist of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen. There are four different ways that carbohydrates can be classified: monosaccharides, oligosaccharides, and polysaccharides. Monosaccharides are the simplest sugars. They are aliphatic aldehydes or ketones and most have five or six carbon atoms. Oligosaccharides are two monosaccharides linked together by the elimination of a water molecule which allows the glycosidic bond can form. Polysaccharides contain more than one glycosidic bond and are the heaviest and most prominent natural forms of carbohydrates (Mcclemmon). Carbohydrates also have the potential to be reducing sugars. This means they have a free aldehyde or ketone group that is capable of acting as a reducing agent. All monosaccharides are reducing sugars and the other forms have the potential to be one. There are several different ways to identify the bonding of a carbohydrate in the lab. In this lab, combinations of several different tests were used in order to determine which functional groups were present. Benedict s and Barfoed s tests both test for the presence of a reducing sugar. Benedict s reagent produces a red precipitate when heated in a the presence of a reducing sugar. I thought that I would know what to expect since I have gone to Lutheran churches my entire life. To start with, I was unsure what to do with the font of holy water when I walked to into the cathedral. I later found out that people who enter are supposed to dip their fingers in it, and they are to make the sign of the cross with their fingers. Then as I saw others approach their pews they did some sort of one legged kneel before sitting down, which I unsuccessfully attempted. Once the service started, I became increasingly lost. I have grown accustomed to following along to the liturgy in either a bulletin or a book, but there were neither to be found. The priest would say phrases from his service book, and then everyone in the congregation would respond with what I assume to be memorized responses. The only times I absolutely knew what was going on was during the hymns and the readings due to both of these being in the hymnals in the pews. To make matters worse, there were various portions of the worship service such as the Apostles Creed or the Lord s Prayer where I thought I knew what to say, but the wording would end up different. Finally, I had heard before that Catholics kneel a lot during services, but I was not prepared at all for the length of kneeling that occurred once the priest started the part of the service related to the Eucharist, better known to me as Holy Communion. • 25. The Glorified Act Of War By Timothy Findley And Kurt Vonnegut The glorified act of war is often staged in historical literature by idolizing the soldiers who partake in the event. Soldiers are made to seem intrepid, ruthless and muscular, each with a ceaseless desire to fight valiantly for their countries. Timothy Findley and Kurt Vonnegut discard this typical hero archetype in their anti war novels by portraying the soldiers who fight in the war as the men they are, not as the templates of heroes they are expected to fit, in furtherance of strengthening their anti war stances. Findley and Vonnegut illustrate their protagonists as a tragic hero and an anti hero, respectively, in order to juxtapose the atrocities of war with the flawed humanness of man and to challenge the stereotypical image of a ... At the climax of the novel, Robert s courage tempers out his Achilles heel of introverted moral justness. His ascendance to the position of officer is only natural considering that his resilience and persistence strengthen significantly as he begins to imitate the hero archetype upheld by most war novels, though his concealed struggles with morality and obedience as exposed by his actions confirm him to be a tragic hero. Even with his elevated position, Robert demonstrates many instances of nurturing as he develops into a strong man weathered by the war, as opposed to the typical hardening experienced by most men on the front lines. The sociological perspective that lead to the beginning of this genocide is extremely unique, as most ethnic conflict and violence in history has occurred due to a conflict within two ethnic groups beliefs and cultures, yet in the case of the Tutsi and Hutu, they had very similar racial and cultural traits. It was rather a division of socio economic status between the pastoralists being the Tutsi, and the agriculturists representing the Hutu. Expertise is affected by credentials and proven skill (Flanagin, Metzger, 4). The same person may be perceived as credible at one point in time, but may lack credibility later in time. Credibility is largely based on what we as a society are experiencing during that time period. Small things may affect credibility that we would not originally think to include. If a person were to see an ad every day about a certain lawyer, they might think of the lawyer if it comes a time for them to need a lawyer. At the end of the poem, the narrator looks to Christ and the cross for protection. Furthermore, the primary duty of a hero is to provide his kinsmen with great treasure and weaponry. Beowulf fulfills this duty by stating Behold this treasure #8230; that I have been allowed to leave my people #8230; (Beowulf 91) to Wiglaf after defeating the dragon. In the US, sociologists have broken down the typical three classes of upper, middle and lower into six classes: upper/super class, upper middle, middle, working, working poor, and underclass. These groupings better illustrate the current state of society, and the variances that exist between them. The superclass is the elite. This card allows you to draw until you have 3 cards in your hand, but you cannot do damage to your opponent for the rest of the turn, you send your entire hand to the Graveyard during the End Phase, and you cannot Special Summon during the turn you activate this card. While there are some clear negatives to the card, I overlook those and really only look at the fact that you can draw up to 3 cards, which is unprecedented in Yu Gi Oh. While the creators of the card, Konami, try to make Card ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One cannot see the Yu Gi Oh community without a glimpse of bandwagon. While in the card game almost anything can be played within the entire 20 year history, people often flock to bandwagoning the quote best decks. It has even gotten to the point where people come up with a Tier List to place decks from best to worst, but these list are subjective. While there is potential for any deck to do well in a tournament, one will see the same decks top because of the numbers that represent those decks at a tournament because of bandwagoning. With groupthink, the community believes those decks to be the best and are the decks that are looked at when it is time to hit cards on the Ban ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
