Anatomy And Physiology Of The Thyroid Gland
Hypothyroidism is one of the top diseases that goes unnoticed. Not many people know the affects
the thyroid gland can have on the body, and how the thyroid gland has a part in regulating the many
different systems. This paper will explain the anatomy and physiology of the thyroid gland, the
description, sign and symptoms, causes and risk factors, the diagnosis of the disease, and the
possible treatment plans for the disease. The thyroidgland, which is the largest endocrine gland in
adults, is a butterfly shaped gland with two lobes that lie adjacent to the trachea just below the
larynx. The thyroid function runs on hormone regulation, keeping the positive and negative
feedback loop running correctly. The hypothalamus, responsible for most of the hormones in the
body, secretes the thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH), which induces the anterior pituitary to
secrete prolactin (PRL) and the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) that stimulates the thyroid to
release thyroid hormone(TH). TSH stimulates the growth of the thyroid gland, and TH exerts
metabolic effects. If the TH secretion drops in a healthy thyroid, TSH secretion rises and will
stimulate the thyroid to push out more hormones. If the TSH is too high, the hormone somatostatin
will inhibit the secretion of TSH and the growth hormone (GH). Hypothyroidismis the disease that
causes the thyroid to be underactive and cannot make enough TH for the body to function normally.
The body s metabolic effects rely on the

Comparing Buddhism and Christianity Essay
Comparing Buddhism and Christianity
In the early sixth century Christianity was evolving at a rapid pace. The spread of Christianity
was not only moving westward through Europe, but it was also moving eastward down the Silk
Road. The eastward spread of Christianity was primarily a form of Christianity known as
Nestorianism, after the teachings of Nestorius, a fifth century patriarch. By 635 Nestorian
Christianity had reached the heart of China spreading through all of Persia and India. During the
middle of the seventh century Nestorian churches were found in cities all along the Silk Road,
though there were unquestionably many fewer Christians than Buddhists in Asia Up until the turn
of the sixteenth century Christianity endured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sutra explains that salvation could be gained by calling on the name of Amitabha with
absolute faith in his vow of a pure land. It is said that with absolute faith in Amitabha he would
appear at the time of death to lead the faithful to paradise or the pure land. In China the beginnings
of the Pure Land Buddhism can be traced back as far as the fourth century. During the fourth
century a well known scholar named Hui yuan formed a society of monks who meditated on the
name of Amitabha. Hui yuan a former Taoist promoted this school of Buddhism and in 402 AD he
founded the Fellowship pf the White Lotus from which Pure Land School was developed. During
the sixth and seventh centuries T an luan, Tao ch o and
Shan tao spread the sect of Pure Land Buddhism and are recognized as the first patriarchs of the
school. Monks of the Tendai School later brought the Pure Land teaching to Japan. In 1133 AD
Honen was born and at the early age of thirteen he was ordained as a Buddhist monk. Honen
spent thirty year in training at the Tendai School on Mt. Hiei where he gained a large knowledge
of all forms of Buddhism. At the age of forty Honen broke away from his Tendai teaching and
began to write the foundations of Pure Land Buddhism. Honen completed his work in 1175 AD
and began to preach the faith of Pure Land. As a result of Honen simple religion of hope he became

The production process consisted of three major stages; spring production, ring production, and
final production and assembly (Figure 5). Ring production required 5 major steps. The first step
consisted of taking powdered PTFE and mixing it. Subsequently the mixture was placed in an
oven where it was pressed under high pressure to form the desired shape. The shaped pipe was
then removed from the mold and cooked in a sintering oven to harden it. After sintering, the
sintered pipe was ground to the desired size and specifications. The completed seal blank was then
placed in the buffer inventory that was maintained before the computer numerically controlled
(CNC) machines. Blanks are machined to customer specifications to create rings soon after receipt
of the customer order. Spring production was proprietary and only senior executives and the
specially trained workers were allowed to enter the area of the factory where springs were
produced. Bal Seal senior management was convinced that the firm had created a sustainable
competitive advantage from the proprietary technology associated with spring production.
Consequently, intense security was applied to this production area to ensure that competitors could
not learn anything from visiting Bal Seal or hiring its normally trained employees.
Computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment was used to create the seal. The part was then

Bob Dylan s songs are filled with inspirational messages. The songs were composed with
inspiration and creativity being the main elements of the song. The obvious messages that are
presented in the songs make them some of the most inspiring and creative pieces that have ever
been produced. While he was performing in the Aver Fish Hall, Dylan presented a performance of
22 songs that were performed by 21 different groups. The performance was meant to be a non
profit show, with the main focus being to raise money for educational purposes (Pareles 1).

These instruments were meant to influence the originality of the performance and create an
accompaniment for the song. As a result, the songs sounded real and the performers were able to
replicate the original versions of the songs (O Strange 1). There were also pianos that were played
according to the music s genre. The pianos, just like the rest of the instruments, ensured that the
music was perfect and that there was as much proximity to the original versions as possible.
Even in terms of the instrumentation and rhythm, all the musical notations that were performed
were similar to the original version. The piano players ensured that they stuck to the eighth note
formation to realize the expected results. Natalie Merchant, one of the singers, made the
composition and the performance to have a mournful or sorrowful mood, so as to bring out the
emotions of the songs and to establish an attachment of the song to the performance (Pareles 1).
The performances were therefore inclined towards bringing out the ideal feelings and emotions
associated with the song. Other performances were by Rossane Cash, who ensured similarity
between the original versions and the songs played during the show (O Strange 1).
Solo guitars were also used as accompaniments to the songs in order realize pure creativity and
originality. The guitars that were used by the various performers targeted at ensuring conformity to

Essay on Feasibility of Geothermal Energy in the United...
Feasibility of Geothermal Energy in the United States Abstract Over the past years, gasoline and
electricity have been the leading energy resources. The search for an alternative source of energy
has become a complicated problem for scientists and an economic dilemma for America s public.
Scientists have been trying to recognize geothermal energy as the next leading source of energy. In
this research paper, I account for the inexpensive costs and different methods of gathering the
geothermal energy of America. Geothermal energy is a renewable energy resource which can heat
and cool buildings. Although there are some by products, using a particular type of system can help
stop their emission. In conclusion, the use of geothermal energy... Show more content on

The pipes hold water, or glycol, transferring the heat inside buildings, which is known as heat
exchange (Solar4Scolars, para. 2 and 3). Feasibility of Geothermal Energy in the United States 3
Government funded research into obtaining geothermal energy was greatly dynamic in the 1970s
and early 1980s. However, as oil prices declined in the mid 1980s, alternative energy sources
declined, thus, funding for geothermal energy research greatly reduced. Consequently, this
monetary difficulty stifled any advancement on geothermal technology. Now that energy concerns
have resurfaced, an opportunity exists for the U.S. to pursue the EGS [Enhanced Geothermal
Systems] option aggressively to meet long term national needs, as observed by MIT Professor
Jefferson Tester (MIT, January 22, 2007, para. 19). Based on previous studies, there is evidence that
geothermal energy has a hopeful future in helping the United States. To study the potential use of
geothermal energy, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) found from experimental
procedures that mining heat stored as thermal energy can supply electricity at competitive prices
and cause little detriment to the environment. The study showed that drilling wells that reached hot
rock and connecting them to regions of fractured rock stimulated water flow. Relating to geothermal
energy, this exchange of heat produced large amounts of steam and hot water to run

The Industrial Revolution Of The Iron Mill By Rebecca...
The industrial revolution was a time of invention, progress and opportunity. However, there was
also a darker side to it all. Rebecca Harding Davis, author of Life in the Iron Mills, tells the story
of ironworker Hugh Wolfe from a first person narrator s point of view. This unnamed narrator of
an unspecified gender is part of the more privileged class of society. This person resides in the
house that the two protagonists of the story, Hugh and Debora Wolfe, used to live in. The higher
ups of this time had one mindset: there were two worlds society consisted of. Those that had
money and were considered civilized , and the rest of the population, working tirelessly, hardly
considered humans. These upper class characters proposed this idea with a rational, persuasive
manner. Davis purpose was to show the reader how wrong this view was and expose the evils
within the industrial society while also promising a better future. I agree with her purpose, as today
s society sees the industrial revolutionas a very important piece to today s modern world. This is
true, and the industrial revolution had a huge impact on how our world operates and functions
today, but the darker side of this time period, working conditions, and morality are generally never
discussed. The story starts off with the narrator observing the people below from a window,
bustling around a middle class mill town. The narrator describes the poor quality of the town,
smoke from the factories filling the sky and

Essence Of Waqf In Quran And Hadith
Introduction
Essence of waqf in Quran and Hadith. In the verses of Quran, By no means you attain
righteousness unless you give 9freely) of that which you love, and whatever you give, of a truth
God know it well. (Al Imran, 3:92). And in Hadith, the Prophet said: When a man dies his acts
come to an end, except three things which is recurring charity, knowledge (by which people
benefit), and pious offspring, who pray for him .
Waqf is by no means an insignificant instituition in Islam. It potential can be discerned by the very
insistence on the non transferability of the ownership rights of the property. Once a piece of
property is given for a charitable purpose, the owner ceases to have any claims over it, because
the property is said to belong to no one but Allah. This concept is great importance for the
development of the poorer section of society if such waqf properties would be managed to
generate inome for distribution or even for further accumulation of assets. Waqf itself also can be
regarded as an important economic activities whilst at the same time ensuring that the benefits will
accure to some specific sections of society.

construction of mosque. The four eminent Islamic scholars have given different meaning of waqf
or endowment as well. Al Syafie said that waqf is to keep the wealth that can give benefit, and
keep it remaining in the same from while the original owner cannot consume it . In other word,
waqf is to keep the wealth that is beneficial to the needy and the wealth remains in the same
condition as well as the owner is not allowed to consume its

Film Analysis of The Graduate Directed by Mike Nichols Essays
Mrs. Robinson, you are trying to seduce me, says Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman). The
Graduate, directed by Mike Nichols in 1967 is an influential satire/comedy film about a recent
East Coast college graduated who finds himself alienated and aimless in the changing, social and
sexual general public of the 1960s, and questioning the values of society. The theme of the film is
of an innocent and confused youth who is exploited, mis directed, seduced (literally and
figuratively) and betrayed by a corrupt, self indulgent, and discredited older generation (that finds
stability in plastics ) that I found to be quite clear and understanding, while also capturing the real
spirit of the times and allows America s youth to perceive onscreen... Show more content on

He appears alone and isolated he is but when the camera pulls back, it reveals that he is on a
plane filled with other passengers of all different ages. He is returning home to Los Angeles
from college in the East. He appears slightly shy and uninviting; his face is blank, expressionless,
lethargic, and almost zombie like looking. [The beginning and end of the film are very similar
with each other the young couple, is surrounded by a busload of passengers, but still remain
isolated and unemotional.] Benjamin stands mute to himself on the automated, moving walkway
at the busy LAX airport the camera is positioned to reveal Ben s left profile while the frame
height is a medium close shot allowing Ben s image to dilute in the viewers mind. In this profile
shot, the character is positioned to the right third of the frame to allow sufficient space in front of
Ben. This is done in order to not cluster the characters line of sight as seen by the viewer. Dustin
Hoffman s character appears to be lost, confused, and in the midst of discovering his life. The
soundtrack also plays an important role in this interpretation. The song Sounds of Silence by Simon
and Garfunkle establishes a feeling of sadness; it s a non digital sound that expresses a melancholy
reaction, it also reinforces the theme of his emptiness and alienation from his surroundings.

Perot Systems Leadership Paper
Perot Systems Leadership Paper
Leadership is the flourishing interaction between a leader and employees. Leadership is a special
case of interpersonal influence that gets an individual or group to do what the leader or manager
wants done (Schermerhorn, Hunt Osborn, 2003, p. W 56). When employees are continually
motivated to accomplish any task, leaders are successful. In today s progressive business world,
leaders must adapt company policies, behaviors and procedures to maintain a healthy
organizational culture. A successful leader does this by focusing on group dynamics and teamwork,
and by motivating and reinforcing employees. The case study of the Perot Systems represents
defining examples of behavioral theories of leaderships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This leader builds solid relationships and believes in teamwork. Mr. Meyerson was not happy with
the state of the organizational culture at Perot Systems. He wanted to move Perot Systems toward a
corporate model that recognized that the larger issues in life mattered as much as the demands for
profit and loss (2003). In analyzing the group dynamics, he did not like what he found. Listening to
senior management talk about how they handled low performers on teams bothered him (2003). He
decided to offer them something they couldn t get in most high performance companies: a human
organization (2003). Perot Systems used a system of financial rewards as motivational incentives.
In addition, Meyerson initiated a compensation system on job performance evaluation by peers and
customers (2003). As long as the incentives are meaningful, whether they are intrinsic or extrinsic
the encouragement is designed to give the worker satisfaction while taking the organization in the
right direction. Mr. Meyerson showed that his primary concern of his leadership style and behavior
was to benefit his employees.
In contrast, Mr. Perot combined the leadership styles of initiating structure and production centered.
A leader high in initiating structure is more concerned with defining task requirements and other
aspects of the work agenda; he or she might be seen as similar to a production centered supervisor
(2003). The primary

I Was A Strange Person
I was a strange person. Most view themselves as being strange, but I was constantly pointed out as
being very, very strange. Well, firstly, I was commonly considered an anti vegan. Well, I did eat

As I was lying there, absorbed in the thought of how human emotion works, I noticed something in

Open Letter to University of Michigan Central Student Government
Dear the University of Michigan Central Student Government,
As an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan concerned with the stress levels of
my peers, I am writing to address the issue of not having enough stress reducing activities for
students year round. As we all know, college is a very stressful time. Not a week goes by without
having an exam, an essay due, or a presentation to give. And if it does, we spend that week
prepping for whatever assignment we have the following week. We never get a break. This is why

2012). A reduction in heart rate and a reduction in blood pressure are both signs of stress reduction,
which shows that interacting with therapy dogs get the job done. This type of stress reduction is
easy and accessible, and it is what the students here at the University of Michigan need.
The Central Student Government might argue that it is not feasible to have therapy dogs available
at all times every single day, which is true, but having them around about once a week would
suffice. The Central Student Government might also believe that the University of Michigan does
not have the resources or money to make this happen, but many therapy dog owners volunteer their
time, rather than get paid for it, so money is not an issue. For example, the organization that the
University of Michigan already uses, named Therapaws of Michigan , is a non profit
organization and all of their therapy dog owners are volunteers. It does not cost anything for
them to come help us out. Also, space should not be an issue either because first of all, there are
always places outside, such as the Diag, to hold these events, and second of all, our campus is so
big that finding a room out of the

of God s plans for Israel and specifically the temple and Jerusalem. One other main theme is the
coming of the future Messiah. Zechariah also had a charge with Haggai to encourage the post exilic

The Main Key Ideas Of Socrates Concern With The Betterment...
Introduction and Background:
The purpose behind this thesis is to identify the main key ideas of Socrates concern with the
betterment of the Soul. Highlighting the word Psyche as the soul which is immortal or
imperishable. Defining Soul as the main identity of a person, it is what defines a person, his acts
and his mindset. He added that every soul has happiness in it but not all choose to obtain it, not all
the Souls take advantage of it. Those souls that are wise and are truly happy, lead a genuine life
containing happiness. While the inverse, those who are not happy lead a life concerning the
material possessions and involving themselves in materialistic pleasure resulting in to
dissatisfaction and ego in their personalities. This makes these souls corrupt and diseased. Socrates;
The Physician of the Soul believed that people make choices either good or bad, they are unaware
of how to choose to live in happiness and fulfillment.
Socrates believes that betterment of the soul is main concern in philosophy and his core teachings
are the foundation for improvement for us.
Key Ideas or Theory:
In this chapter betterment of soul is further elaborated in the following key points;
Plato was credited with the quote An unexamined life is not worth living . It does, indeed, come
from Plato s Apology. The ideal of the examined life is noble. It sounds unobjectionable: an

Loss of cultural diversity is an undesirable consequence of international interaction
Introduction
Loss of cultural diversity is an undesirable consequence of international interaction this statement
can be explored by looking at a cultural element, more specifically the cultural element of
Hollywood/commercial film. Culture refers to the behaviours, beliefs, attitudes and traditions shared
by a group of people and that are passed on from one generation to the next. The integration of the

The cultural element of Hollywood/ commercial films has advanced through the technology and
overall the changing values of today s society. Since the creation of the first Hollywood film
studio in 1911 (Dangcil 2007). American films have started to impact viewing habits of
audiences all over the world. Glocalisation refers to the adaption of a product or service specific
to each locality or culture in which it is sold. Holly wood and commercial films have been
glocalised around the world by integrating themes from places into the film as well as hiring
actors from all around the world rather than just the United States. Evidence from the past 20
years shows that Hollywood is expanding its embrace to include actors from Hong Kong, scripts
written from South Korea and production facilities in China and New Zealand. 50% of its
revenue is now coming from abroad and expect to increase. Striving toward the billion plus
viewers in China and India however Hollywood studios are operating in ways that include and
reflect the diversity of the audiences of the world. Figure 1 shows the total released length on the

Respect and Why the Marine Corps Has a Rank Structure. Essay
Respect and why the Marine Corps has a rank structure. There are very few things in the modern
military of today or any military that has ever existed before our current military for that matter,
that are more important than the rank structure and the the respect that is demanded of you by
that rank structure. Those are two very important characteristics of every successful military
unit. With added details here and there, in this essay I will mainly be discussing what respect
actually is, how being respected is normally earned and in the military how it is demanded of
you as a sub ordinate to any ranks higher than you or in some cases any fellow military personnel
who is more senior to you and why. On top of that I will be covering... Show more content on

We must see that potential. We all need respect, regardless of how immature and gay we behave.
We all need others to see our potential and honor it to better encourage us to grow into it. Some
respect sound judgement, some strength or power. Some respect altruism, some purposefulness.
Parents and teachers may provide initial guidance but what you respect in a person is ultimately
your privilege. A Privilege. However skewed my opinion might be the fact is that in most cases
respect is earned by the actions towards an individual. All that being said the military works a
little different. Respect in the military is demanded of you by your Superior Officers, NCOs and
others of same rank that have three months more salt on there collar. This is where not so much
the definition but the reason it is given can get shifty. It is when one must absolutely show
respect without the normal necessity of actually respecting that person specifically. You are
respecting the title held by a male or female that is above you, normally by a pay grade or 4 and
in the Commissioned Officers case, on a whole different level than you are as an enlisted man.
Not to say that one cannot find an Commissioned Officer or Non Commissioned Officer that
actually deserves it for his or her character traits. Because I haven t met too many Non
Commissioned or Commissioned officers that don t deserve respect for all reasons. Most of the
time good leaders are placed in

An Examination of America s Two Party System Essay
An Examination of America s Two Party System
Democracy in the United States is based on the indirect representation of the people by elected
officials who are usually chosen by direct vote. Almost from the beginning of the United States
history, however, two parties have shared the great majority of the elected positions from the local
level to the presidency. However, up until the mid 1850 s when the Republican partywas formed,
other parties such as the Whigs, Federalists, and Anti Federalists did not last very long. The
Democratic Party has existed for much longer, tracing its roots from Thomas Jefferson s Democratic
Republican Party beginning around 1792 (Encarta). The two largest parties have changed, third
parties have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two party system is said to promote governmental stability because a single party can win a
majority of political offices and, with less bickering between differing and partisan legislators,
govern more efficiently. In a multiparty country, on the other hand, the formation of a government
depends on the maintenance of a coalition of parties with enough total strength to form a political
majority. The weakness of the ties that bind the coalition may threaten the continuance of a cabinet
in power. The stability shown by the government of the United States has not been entirely due to
its party system, it has been argued, but has been promoted also by the fixed tenure and strong
constitutional position of the president, as well as checks and balances built into the constitution to
prevent one branch of federal government from becoming too powerful.
The Founding Fathers of the United States did not mention political parties in the Constitution.
When George Washington left office he warned the country of the baneful effects of the spirit of
party (Crabtree 18). and James Madison believed that the new nation s politics would be structured
around a greater number of factions representing various segments of the electorate rather than the
overwhelmingly bi partisan arrangement that exists today (Barone 64). Others felt they existed only
to manipulate the independent will of the voters. Yet, by the end of

Magic If Play Analysis
For our directorial focus we decided was the betrayal of family and creating a new dream fits
with our chosen scene as the two young characters in this scene who are portraying this directorial
focus though their dialogue and actions. This led to the two characters in this scene disregarding
their previous dreams and their family to create their own dream to pursue. During the process of
creating this performance, we also learnt about the importance of the Stanislavski method and how
it can ameliorate the performer s actions and dialogue. Some of the Stanislavski techniques that I
have personally used to enhance my character and to fully believe in my performance is the Magic

One of these conventions included the convention of props. In a particular part of the scene.
Johnnie picks up a kewpie doll and messes around with it like an illegitimate souvenir. From this
particular part from this scene. Bubba s concern rises from Johnnie describing the dolls as well
as the summer dream as a joke or an unworthy dream. Another convention that was used was the
convention of realistic language. When the argument breaks out the two character cannot over
exaggerate their voices otherwise it ruins the purpose of realism theatre. Instead the voices had
to be slightly raised in dynamics and in pitch which will make it as realistic as possible. Also the
use of subtext in the scene gave the scene more meaning and it also addressed the concern for my
character as the subtext within the other character shows what he really means. Furthermore
conventions of realism that acknowledged the directorial focus for our scene included the
convention of believable character. To make the scene work under realism theatre, characters
need to be relatable and believable to the audience. Since our directorial focus is the betrayal of
family and creating a new dream the audience must relate to this focus as well as the characters.
Another convention of realism theatre is the convention of a Super Objective. This gives the
characters a deeper purpose to this scene. In my case, my Super Objective

Biological Determinism Vs Differential Socialization
There are two schools of thought involved in the historical debate about gender and its
manifestation in our society: biological determinism and differential socialization (Kimmel, 2013,
p.2). Despite the fact that both schools make reference to gender inequality, it is important to
remark that while for determinists this one is directly linked to people s innate biological traits, for
sociologists, inequality is learned through the process of socialization. On one hand, determinism
sets its foundations in biology and a binary expression of sex (maleand female), and states that men
and women have inherited different capacities and adaptations. Determinists believe that since the
moment people are born, they are predisposed by their genes, hormonal, and physically capacities
to act in the world as either a men or a woman. Therefore, they argue that the inequality, or
superiority of one sex over the other (in this case masculinity superiority), is a key factor (a
necessity) for our society to function properly (Kimmel, 2013). For example, women s... Show more

Adding the social factor as one of the major influences in one s identity and, therefore, it is a form
of gender expression. Thus, individuals are more than the expression of their biological sex,
they are part of groups and these groups exert a great influence in their everyday decisions
(Kimmel, 2013). In this case, gender inequality is learned during the process of socialization. For
instance, we tend to learn how to act (gender roles) from the different norms in society.
Supporting this idea, I noticed how at school, boys and girls tend to be organized in two separate
groups to play sports. This example is what Kimmel (2013) explained an example of how people

Montesquieu Separation Of Power
Charles de Montesquieu To become truly great, one has to stand with people, not above them.
The separation of powers is a doctrine for the administration of both democratic and federative
states. The model was initially created in old Greece and came into broad utilization by the Roman
Republic as a feature of the uncodified Constitution of the Roman Republic. The concept of
separation of power has developed in a few structures at distinctive periods. Its cause is traceable to
Aristotle and Plato. In around seventeenth century, a French thinker John Bodin and a British
government official Locke, communicated their perspectives about the hypothesis of separation of
powers. Be that as it may, it was Montesquieu who surprisingly figured this precept methodically,
logically and plainly in his book Esprit des Lois (The Spirit of the Laws), distributed in the year
1748.
Montesquieu in the following words stated the Doctrine of Separation of Powers
There would be an end of everything, were the same man or same body, whether of the nobles or
of the people, to exercise those three powers, that of enacting laws, that of executing the public
resolutions, and of trying the causes of individuals.

She attempted to show her students the role math played in real life by offering visible

However, a year later she joined Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency (WAVE) , or the US

the need of human intervention. (Asprey 72).

Nabokov Use Of Symbolism In Lolita
The novel Lolita exposes the pedophilia and perversion in the text; however, the child pornography
invoked is very similar to the abrasive ads, commercials, and images viewed in America. It seems
sanctimonious that such a controversial novel because of the pedophilia, does not take into account
objectifying young girls. Integrity is not the concern in Lolita; a novel that represents the
exploitation towards the young girls is. While Humbert is a perverse and gruesome man that has

The Logic Model is a visual model or tool, which is drawn from the basic structure of David

by program evaluators and managers in assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of a specific
program used for almost twenty years, the Logic Model involves on giving descriptions regarding
the relationship of the inputs, program resources, outputs, and outcomes in addressing a specific

framework. First is the organization theory and the work on organizational change wherein they
acknowledge the importance of the concerns about organizational control in sociological work

This seems to me as if it is not so much of a new idea but rather continuing to expand on their
success in the services segment. Third is cloud and nextgeneration data center . The advent of
cloud computing could throttle demand for IBM s high end powerful hardware and software.
Oracle and Sun are attempting to compete with IBM on this new frontier. Naturally the
management discussion in the annual report and financial statements indicates that IBM
believes this will be a great growth area for IBM. However, it is not going to be without
competition but IBM should be one of the beneficiaries if cloud computing grows. The fourth and
final growth opportunity IBM management outlines is called, smarter planet . In this growth

Methods Of Using Data Relationships And Computer Models
Analytics is the process of using data relationships and computer models to drive business value,
improve decision making and understand human relationships. If the Information Age began in the
1990s with the rise of digital technology, then we ve now officially entered the Age of Big Data,
wherein companies like Google, Facebook, IBM, Teradata, Oracle, and SAS have the capacity to
gather a lifetime s worth of data about customers and their behavior. But that data is just an
incomprehensible pile of numbers until a skilled analyst turns those numbers into meaningful
information, useful for making intelligent business decisions. Today, companies are searching for
experts in data analytics who have high formed business and technology backgrounds, and who
understand the importance of the latest data and Information Age trends. This requires more than
simple data analysis. Prescriptive analytics focuses on trends using simulation and optimization,
while predictive analytics uses statistical tools to predict the future, and descriptive analytics is
concerned with enabling smart decisions based on data. Data miners and data analytics experts who
are versatile in all three areas of analytics can help corporate executives translate their data into
intelligent information, which provides companies a competitive advantage and increases their
bottom lines. Analytics have made their presence felt in every industry, but they have a major role
to play in the sports industry and many teams

One Ordinary Day With Wallets Short Story
One Ordinary Day, with Wallets Mr. Johnson put on his uncomfortable shoes and then trudged out
into the way to bright and shiny morning sunshine. He was not in the best of moods, so when he

salesperson to hurry up. When another man came to buy a paper, Mr. Johnson quickly stole his

had walked a few blocks away from the newspaper stand Mr. Johnson hunched over some and
began to walk slowly. He arrived at a crosswalk and then started to painfully cross it. A naive
woman quickly ran up and said Would you like me to assist you, sir?
Mr. Johnson eyed the expensive looking dress and shoes the lady was wearing and replied Yes,
thank you, it is so kind of you to aid me.
As they reached the sidewalk the lady said Where are you headed? Oh, just simply down the street

The woman said, Well, then I ll walk you there.
Mr. Johnson then replied Oh that won t be necessary, but I appreciate your kindness in helping me

She was dumbfounded about how he was suddenly able to walk fast, but simply shrugged it off

Social Media And Organizational Psychology At Harvard...
Many teachers, professors, and businesses are using group work thinking it will help reduce the
amount of work each person will have to contribute. The truth behind this is that the majority of
the work usually gets put on one person entirely. Opinions from other members of the group
interfere with the success of the group as well. In recent years, some research has been done on
finding out just how much better is group work than solo work. The findings might come as a
surprise to you. J. Richard Hackman, the Edgar Pierce Professor of Social Media and
Organizational Psychology at Harvard University has ran a few experimental groups to find out
the answer. Even though many people will say that group work will bring people together;
factors such as group thinking, opinion and larger groups can make for a failing group. Are
Opinions Good For Working In Groups? One of the problems with group work is that some of
the members may have different views. People believe that with group work there will be more
ideas being contributed to the task at hand. The issue with having more people in the group is that
they all have different opinions. This factor here can be the cause for conflict throughout the
group. According to J. Richard Hackman, the Edgar Pierce Professor of Social and Organizational

motivation typically chip away at the benefits of collaboration. (Diane). Members from the group

Genius and Madness in Christopher Smart s My Cat Jeoffry
A series of verses commencing with the word for , Christopher Smart s My Cat Jeoffry is
surprisingly modernistic and intriguing. Written while Smart was confined in a mental asylum for
incessant praying, the aphoristic poem praises the cat Jeoffry, a faithfulservant to God.
Unrestricted by rigid poetic structures, My Cat Jeoffry is nevertheless organized and coherent,
ablaze with a current of religious fervour. It is impossible to know if the poem was inspired by
genius or by madness, but it is infused with sanity and truth. While the poem is about a cat s
devotion to God through its daily actions, Smart s My Cat Jeoffry also serves as a lesson to
humankind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is Smart perhaps inserting his characteristic wit into My Cat Jeoffry and alluding to John Wesley s
(1703 1791) dictum cleanliness is next to godliness ?
Superior to other animals due to the dexterity of his movements (40, 71), Jeoffry is able to serve
God asleep and awake, as emphasized in Smart s parallel lines For there is nothing sweeter than
his peace when at rest./For there is nothing brisker than his life when in motion (44 45). Jeoffry s
abilities to influence those around him is also brought into light in the parallel lines For he is hated
by the hypocrite and miser./For the former is afraid of detection./For the latter refuses the charge
(57 59).
Jeoffry, even when his day s work is done (23), continues to work in God s grace by keeping the
Devil at bay with his electrical skin glaring eyes (25). This use of diction seems absurd, and one
wonders if Smart is not fooling his audience all along. Echoing William Blake s The Tiger and
his Four Fold Vision by the vivid descriptions of his Angel Tiger (29), Smart hints that there exist
multiple layers in My Cat Jeoffry . Without a doubt, Jeoffry s life can be paralleled to that of
humankind. However, what kind of person does Smart speak of? Is Smart truly praising those
who are devoted to God, or is he criticizing those who are over zealous in their devotions?

Social Class Structure In America
The social class structure in America is generally divided into mainly three strata: The rich
constituting the upper class, the moderately affluent category comprising the middle class, and
financially and socially backward people who form the lower class. There are also superimposing
areas like the upper middle classand the lower upper class. The stratification is based on the social
as well as economic environments. Although these classifications and entry to these statuses are not
fixed, these three classifications give an overall perceptive of the social classification in the United
Statesof America. (study.com)
People who are deemed to be part of the rich upper class constitute the owners of manufacturing
units and they handle most of the country s private wealth by virtue of their enterprising nature.
They keep on increasing their wealth using the funds that are already available with them. Many
people in this category are key government personals, hefty entrepreneurs, or chief executives of
organizations. They manage an enormous amount of wealth and have control over the national
economy. They work on the principle that income is the earning or similar revenue that is

During the last several years America witnessed a scenario in which the volume of the rich is
drastically increasing. This happened at the cost of a breakdown in the volume of middle class
and an increase in the volume of the poor. The most commonly used tool for measuring social
inequality is the Gini coefficient. This is a scientific approach to finding the spread of wealth in a
given geography. If the Gini coefficient is zero, it is a clear signal of perfect equality. If the Gini
coefficient is one, it shows that the wealth in that area is not properly distributed. Studies show that
America has much to improve in terms of Gini coefficient.

As stated before, the CaГ±o Limones oil field, the Cusiana oil field, and the Cupiagua oil field
are three of the biggest oil fields in all of the Colombian territory, and are currently operated by
Ecopetrol. Amongst these three oil fields a big portion of the Colombian oil production is
distributed, and they are also some of the oldest oil fields.
The CaГ±o Limones oil field was discovered in July 1983 by an association called the Cravo Norte
association which was conformed by Ecopetrol, in that time called the Empresa Colombiana de
PetrГіleos, with Occidental de Colombia, another oil company in Colombia. The oil field is located
in the northern part of the Llanos basin, in the region the OriniquГa, and the state of Arauca.
Moreover, the CaГ±o Limon oil field is composed of two large fault blocks, the CaГ±o ... Show

After the discovery of the Cusiana oil field, BP attempted to drill again in the Unete 1 well, which
was the well previously drilled by Ecopetrol, and found the Cupiagua oil field (De Ath, 1997).
Companies who had previously attempted to find the Cusiana and the Cupiagua oil fields had fail,
since they were not digging depth enough. Both the Cusiana and the Cupiagua are located at more
than 14000 feet below the surface, which is almost twice the depth of the CaГ±o Limones oil field,
causing a lot of mechanical issues and failures.
Further, BP estimated that the Cusiana and Cupiagua oil fields had oil reserves for a total of 2
billion barrels of oil, with the Cusiana oil field accounting for 1.5 billion barrels of oil and the
Cupiagua oil field the other 500 million barrels of oil (Knott, 1993). It is important to note that
recently the oil reserves in the Cusiana oil field had been estimated to be much lower. The field is
estimated to have 750 million barrels, but is still one of the major fields in all of

Ravenclaw Identity Crisis
I, a nameless Gryffindor who is having major identity crisis issues about truly belonging in
Ravenclaw but not being able to switch houses, have graduated college with a degree in
chemistry and now work doing audio for live theatre. I am super excited to be pursuing my
magical education and am also glad that the opportunity presented itself after I was done with
my muggle schooling so that I don t have to juggle them. I had a friend who took muggle
Astronomy in college and she told me only horror stories. I was pretty scared to take the class,
and when I took it with the previous professor, I did not much enjoy it. It is very interesting but it
was quite hard. I much preferred this version of the class. To be honest, I have no yet taken your

Against Reinstating the Military Draft Essay
Against Reinstating the Military Draft On July 1, 1973, Congress chose to end the draft in
favor of an All Volunteer Army. According to The Professional Bulletin of Army History, No. 27,
the last man was drafted in December 1972 and reported for training in June 1973. Now, not
only might the renewed military draft come back but also the age of compulsory service in the
meat grinder might be extended from its former limit of 26 years up to 42 years of age. As Ken
Adachi, the editor of ?Educate Yourself,? reports, a new draft will include BOTH men and women.
While at various points in history the United States military has operated effectively and efficiently
with the draft, reinstating the draft would contradict the ideals of... Show more content on

Post 9 11 military enlistment numbers spiked because individuals wanted to serve and protect
our recently attacked country and our way of life. If individuals are forced to participate in a
military campaign, the government will be relieved of one of the checks that help prevent them
from engaging in unpopular or unwarranted campaigns. Sure, the government makes us do all
sorts of things: serve on juries, pay taxes, have a driver?s license. When the government requires
possession of a driver?s license it is for our own security, to make sure that only those who are
capable to drive are on the road. When we are being asked to serve on jury, it is for our interest
as well. As a society, we get to take a part in a legal decision and make sure that justice is done in
our country. Even the requirement to pay taxes eventually is for our interest. The tax money
helps the government to do things for us as a society, such as financing culture events, helping
elders and people in need. However, asking us to risk our lives for something that not all citizens
believe worth fighting for is not in our interest. People should not be forced to enlist in the army,
which is one reason why we should not reinstate the military draft. In other words, since we live
in a country based on freedom, the government should not take away our right to decide if we
want to fight or not. We should not be forced to fight a war. We should not be forced into the meat
grinder and possibly killed

Power Has The Ability To Improve, Or Corrupt Its Holder.
Power has the ability to improve, or corrupt its holder. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies,
the desire for power is illustrated through symbols in the novel, and changes in the boys
behavior. Throughout the boys struggle to survive, their strong thirst for power quickly begins
to consume them. People of authority may use power to their advantage, such as Jack, and it
may often corrupts one s mind. Power is not all bad, though corrupted authority and abuse of
power have many consequences, one of which is the collapse of society. Golding uses
symbolism to show how power affects the boys morals and behavior. The desire and
consequences are shown with the conch, Jack vs Henry s view on power, and the killing of the
pig. The conch is a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, the way power affects someone is shown within Jack and Henry. Henry has a short
encounter with power, while the consequences are long lasting with Jack. Henry attempts to
control tiny transparent creatures on the shore by talk(ing) to them, urging them, ordering them
(61). He is so fascinated with these creatures and is entranced by the power that he has over
them. He desires power, and finds it when he begins to control these transparencies. His
encounter is short, and he cherishes what little power he had, and does not mind that his orders
go unfulfilled. On the other hand, Jack lets the power go to his head. Jack was obsessed with
hunting, and his desire for power had caused him to lose his identity. Jack wanted to camouflage
himself so he d have an advantage over his prey, by rubbing his face with charcoal. He planned
his new face. He made one cheek and eye socket white...he looked in astonishment, no longer at
himself but an awesome stranger (63). Behind the mask Jack was liberated from shame and self
consciousness (64), and it transformed not only his appearance, but his attitude. The mask
allowed Jack to put away all civilized thought, and unfortunately he goes too far with this. He
becomes more mean and demanding towards the boys. He had power over a pig s life, and is
given power by the hunters. They obey him and follow him around,

Reason Why Us Copiers Manufactures Cartridges And Copiers
a)
The reason why US Copiers manufactures cartridges and copiers is because of the opportunity
cost. If they produce just cartidiges and no one bought them, they would have all this material with
no alternative use. It also costs money to store. Having no alterative would lead to waste when they
could have reused the material to make something else. It gives them variety. They would not be
dependent on others because they only produce one thing. Other companies do not specialize for
the same reason because of opportunity cost. If I grew just potatoes I would get sick of just
eating potatoes, and they would go to waste. I also would be dependent on others. If I grew carrots
and potatoes, I would have something else to eat

Cost implications for road widening is medium to high and this is a drawback
Road widening is a time dependent project to undertake and is not an immediate solution.
Lanes can only be kept to a width of 3 to reduce incompetent drivers from straddling the main street
and the additional lane causing accidents.
Movable Barriers
The barrier system is one of the lower priority solutions to be considered as it is for straight roads.
This project would require an alternative, however it is a innovative alternative that is immediate
and non invasive.
Pros: No need for destruction of existing and redesign
A strong and durable solution for segregating traffic lanes. Long lasting if maintained correctly.

The Weimar Republic Failed As A Result Of Many Significant...
The Weimar Republic failed as a result of many significant and underlying factors. The problems
included politics, economics, and the popularity of the Nazis along with the effect of the Great
Depression. However, besides all these faults that appeared after the establishment of Germany s
first Democracy, Weimar was handicapped from the beginning due to the effects of the First World
War. Alongside the repercussions of the war, the Treaty of Versailles further lowered the chance of
success for the Weimar Republic.
The German President, Friedrich Ebert, and his socialist government faced numerable problems.
They were well renowned by the public for having stabbed Germany in the back by signing the
Armistice and agreeing defeat in WW1. By fully accepting the War Guilt clause, Germany was
made responsible for paying ВЈ6,600 million pounds worth of reparations in 1919. Majority of the
money was in compensation to the France for the extensive damage to their country. In the
previous year 1918, the national income was roughly one third of what it had been in 1913, and so
paying reparations; equivalent to 2% of the countries wealth, was a financially huge strain. Ebert
was torn as to what to do. Extreme nationalists like the Nazi Party refused to acknowledge
Germany s responsibility and saw these payments as a form of slavery. This is a result of the stab
in the back myth held by many right wing nationalists. On the contrary many Germans believed to

Magna Carta Dbq
In year 1215, one of the most significant documents was signed by King John, the Magna Carta.
The Magna Carta was constructed to reduce powers by King John, and to make him regulate the
country by the old English law. King John came to an agreement with a group of people who had
been rebelling against him the barons, he promised the group he would observe standards of
conduct. The Barons were a group of 25 men that did not agree with King John. They were
unhappy with King Johns greed and cruelty. The group allocated clause 61, ensuring the king
complies with the terms. The document guaranteed: freedom for the English church, protection of
the law for all free men, and freedom from excessive fines and taxation on citizens.
The Magna Carta is the foundation of our constitution, and has become a part of English law.
There are things from the Magna Carta that still apply in our constitution. For example, in
chapter 39 of the document it was stated that No freeman shall be taken or imprisoned, or
disseised, or outlawed, or banished, or any ways destroyed, nor will we pass upon him, nor will
we send upon him, unless by the lawful judgment of his peers, or by the law of the land. This is
allowing everyone to be heard in their own defense. This is relating to the United States fifth
amendment of the constitution. King John was known for punishing his enemies without trial, him
signing the Magna Carta took away his power to do such. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Identity in E.L. Doctorow s Ragtime Essay example
Identity in E.L. Doctorow s Ragtime
Written almost thirty years ago, describing an age far removed from its own, E.L. Doctorow s
novel Ragtime nevertheless explores issues of identity and ethnicity that still face America in spite
of its lofty ideals of individualism and diversity. It displays for the reader a rich and hypnotic
portrayal of the soul of immigrant America, yet still fails to avoid ethnic bias in certain subtle ways.
Whether the lapses into feelings of cultural superiority originate from the purposeful portrayal of
the characters Doctorow created or without the author s conscious prior awareness, a careful
reading of the text will reveal them. In this way, these same assumptions and prejudices test our ...

There were no immigrants (Doctorow 4). What follows quickly after is the voice of truth and
reason in the text, expressed through the fictional re representation of the anarchist Emma
Goldman, who shows white culture that Apparently there were Negroes. There were immigrants
(Doctorow 5).
Despite this laudable cultural advancement, the author s meaning of the term immigrant takes place
within a very limited context. Asians and indigenous peoples are not invited in Ragtime; while
black America is given a voice through the stubborn and noble Coalhouse and the eloquent Booker
T. Washington, and the Eastern European immigrant community is given a rich and touching voice
through Tateh and his daughter, Doctorow never ventured far enough along to include Asians in his
spectrum of ethnic narrative. Just like the Oriental silk cushions that made Houdini feel so trapped
in Father s home, they are deprived of a true voice.
Great lengths are taken by Doctorow to empathize with the Eastern European immigrant
community. With great emotion, he describes Father s impression of an immigrant ship, decidedly
of a European identity because of the head shawls that the women wore (Doctorow 14). With an
emotion that belies the author s role as third person omniscient, he argues eloquently against this
ethnic group being wrongly stigmatized as being lost within moral

Voltage Limits and Currents on Power Systems Essay example
The various nonlinear loads like Adjustable Speed Drives (ASD s), bulk rectifiers, furnaces,
computer supplies, etc. draw non sinusoidal currents containing harmonics from the supply which
in turn causes voltage harmonics. Current harmonic causes increased power system losses,
excessive heating in rotating machinery, interference with nearby communication circuits and
control circuits, etc. It has become a vital importance to maintain the sinusoidal nature of voltage
and currents in the power system. Various international agencies like IEEE and IEC have issued
standards, which put limits on various current and voltage harmonics. The limits for various current
and voltage harmonics specified by IEEE 519 for various frequencies are given... Show more

For reverse voltage blocking a diode is used in series with the self commutating device (IGBT) .
However, GTO based configurations have restricted frequency of switching they do not need
the series diode. They are considered sufficiently reliable, but have higher losses and require
higher values of parallel ac power capacitors. Moreover, they cannot be used in multilevel or
multistep versions to improve performance in higher ratings. The other converter used is a
voltage fed type Active filter structure, as shown in Fig 2.2. It is having a self supporting dc
voltage bus with a large dc capacitor. It has become very much dominant, since it is lighter,
cheaper, and expandable to multilevel and multistep modes, with lower switching frequencies to
improve the performance . It is more popular in UPS based applications, because in the presence
of mains, the same Inverter bridge can be used as an Active Filter to eliminate harmonics of
critical nonlinear loads. 2.2.2 Topology based Classification Based on the topology used the AF s
can be classified as series or shunt filters, and use a combination of both called unified power
quality conditioners. Combinations of active series and passive shunt filtering are known as hybrid
filters. Fig 2.3 is an example of an shunt type AF, which is most widely used to eliminate current
harmonics, reactive power compensation (also known as STATCON), and balancing unbalanced
currents. It is mainly used at the load end, because

The Common Internet File System
8.Data Storage Techniques
8.1CIFS
The Common Internet File system (CIFS) is a native file sharing protocol used by computer users
across corporate intranets and Internet. It defines series of commands to pass the information
between the networked computers. CIFS implements the client/server programming model. A
client program sends a request to server program for access to a file or to pass a message to a
program that runs in the server computer, the server then takes the requested action and gives a
response.
CIFS Functions are:
в—ЏGet access to files that are local to the server and read and write to them
в—ЏShare files with other clients using special locks
в—ЏRestore connections automatically in case of network failure.
в—ЏUnicode file names
Similar to SMB protocol, CIFS implements the Internet s TCP/IP protocol. CIFS can be
considered as supplement of existing Internet application protocols such as the File Transfer
Protocol (FTP) and the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
Common Internet File System runs as an application layer network protocol used for providing
shared access to files, printers, serial ports, and miscellaneous communications between nodes on a
network. It also facilitates an authenticated inter process communication mechanism.
8.2Network File System (NFS)
Sun Microsystems in 1984 developed a distributed file system protocol called Network File System
(NFS) allowing a user on a client computer to access files over a network much like local

  • 3. Anatomy And Physiology Of The Thyroid Gland Hypothyroidism is one of the top diseases that goes unnoticed. Not many people know the affects the thyroid gland can have on the body, and how the thyroid gland has a part in regulating the many different systems. This paper will explain the anatomy and physiology of the thyroid gland, the description, sign and symptoms, causes and risk factors, the diagnosis of the disease, and the possible treatment plans for the disease. The thyroidgland, which is the largest endocrine gland in adults, is a butterfly shaped gland with two lobes that lie adjacent to the trachea just below the larynx. The thyroid function runs on hormone regulation, keeping the positive and negative feedback loop running correctly. The hypothalamus, responsible for most of the hormones in the body, secretes the thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH), which induces the anterior pituitary to secrete prolactin (PRL) and the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) that stimulates the thyroid to release thyroid hormone(TH). TSH stimulates the growth of the thyroid gland, and TH exerts metabolic effects. If the TH secretion drops in a healthy thyroid, TSH secretion rises and will stimulate the thyroid to push out more hormones. If the TSH is too high, the hormone somatostatin will inhibit the secretion of TSH and the growth hormone (GH). Hypothyroidismis the disease that causes the thyroid to be underactive and cannot make enough TH for the body to function normally. The body s metabolic effects rely on the ... The spread of Christianity was not only moving westward through Europe, but it was also moving eastward down the Silk Road. The eastward spread of Christianity was primarily a form of Christianity known as Nestorianism, after the teachings of Nestorius, a fifth century patriarch. By 635 Nestorian Christianity had reached the heart of China spreading through all of Persia and India. During the middle of the seventh century Nestorian churches were found in cities all along the Silk Road, though there were unquestionably many fewer Christians than Buddhists in Asia Up until the turn of the sixteenth century Christianity endured ... It is said that with absolute faith in Amitabha he would appear at the time of death to lead the faithful to paradise or the pure land. In China the beginnings of the Pure Land Buddhism can be traced back as far as the fourth century. During the fourth century a well known scholar named Hui yuan formed a society of monks who meditated on the name of Amitabha. Hui yuan a former Taoist promoted this school of Buddhism and in 402 AD he founded the Fellowship pf the White Lotus from which Pure Land School was developed. During the sixth and seventh centuries T an luan, Tao ch o and Shan tao spread the sect of Pure Land Buddhism and are recognized as the first patriarchs of the school. Monks of the Tendai School later brought the Pure Land teaching to Japan. In 1133 AD Honen was born and at the early age of thirteen he was ordained as a Buddhist monk. Honen spent thirty year in training at the Tendai School on Mt. Hiei where he gained a large knowledge of all forms of Buddhism. At the age of forty Honen broke away from his Tendai teaching and began to write the foundations of Pure Land Buddhism. Honen completed his work in 1175 AD and began to preach the faith of Pure Land. Ring production required 5 major steps. The first step consisted of taking powdered PTFE and mixing it. Subsequently the mixture was placed in an oven where it was pressed under high pressure to form the desired shape. The shaped pipe was then removed from the mold and cooked in a sintering oven to harden it. After sintering, the sintered pipe was ground to the desired size and specifications. The completed seal blank was then placed in the buffer inventory that was maintained before the computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines. Blanks are machined to customer specifications to create rings soon after receipt of the customer order. Spring production was proprietary and only senior executives and the specially trained workers were allowed to enter the area of the factory where springs were produced. Bal Seal senior management was convinced that the firm had created a sustainable competitive advantage from the proprietary technology associated with spring production. The songs were composed with inspiration and creativity being the main elements of the song. The obvious messages that are presented in the songs make them some of the most inspiring and creative pieces that have ever been produced. While he was performing in the Aver Fish Hall, Dylan presented a performance of 22 songs that were performed by 21 different groups. The performance was meant to be a non profit show, with the main focus being to raise money for educational purposes (Pareles 1). As a result, the songs sounded real and the performers were able to replicate the original versions of the songs (O Strange 1). There were also pianos that were played according to the music s genre. The pianos, just like the rest of the instruments, ensured that the music was perfect and that there was as much proximity to the original versions as possible. Even in terms of the instrumentation and rhythm, all the musical notations that were performed were similar to the original version. The piano players ensured that they stuck to the eighth note formation to realize the expected results. Natalie Merchant, one of the singers, made the composition and the performance to have a mournful or sorrowful mood, so as to bring out the emotions of the songs and to establish an attachment of the song to the performance (Pareles 1). The performances were therefore inclined towards bringing out the ideal feelings and emotions associated with the song. Other performances were by Rossane Cash, who ensured similarity between the original versions and the songs played during the show (O Strange 1). Solo guitars were also used as accompaniments to the songs in order realize pure creativity and originality. • 9. Essay on Feasibility of Geothermal Energy in the United... Feasibility of Geothermal Energy in the United States Abstract Over the past years, gasoline and electricity have been the leading energy resources. The search for an alternative source of energy has become a complicated problem for scientists and an economic dilemma for America s public. Scientists have been trying to recognize geothermal energy as the next leading source of energy. In this research paper, I account for the inexpensive costs and different methods of gathering the geothermal energy of America. Geothermal energy is a renewable energy resource which can heat and cool buildings. Although there are some by products, using a particular type of system can help stop their emission. In conclusion, the use of geothermal energy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pipes hold water, or glycol, transferring the heat inside buildings, which is known as heat exchange (Solar4Scolars, para. 2 and 3). Feasibility of Geothermal Energy in the United States 3 Government funded research into obtaining geothermal energy was greatly dynamic in the 1970s and early 1980s. However, as oil prices declined in the mid 1980s, alternative energy sources declined, thus, funding for geothermal energy research greatly reduced. Consequently, this monetary difficulty stifled any advancement on geothermal technology. Now that energy concerns have resurfaced, an opportunity exists for the U.S. to pursue the EGS [Enhanced Geothermal Systems] option aggressively to meet long term national needs, as observed by MIT Professor Jefferson Tester (MIT, January 22, 2007, para. 19). Based on previous studies, there is evidence that geothermal energy has a hopeful future in helping the United States. To study the potential use of geothermal energy, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) found from experimental procedures that mining heat stored as thermal energy can supply electricity at competitive prices and cause little detriment to the environment. The study showed that drilling wells that reached hot rock and connecting them to regions of fractured rock stimulated water flow. Relating to geothermal energy, this exchange of heat produced large amounts of steam and hot water to run ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Industrial Revolution Of The Iron Mill By Rebecca... The industrial revolution was a time of invention, progress and opportunity. However, there was also a darker side to it all. Rebecca Harding Davis, author of Life in the Iron Mills, tells the story of ironworker Hugh Wolfe from a first person narrator s point of view. This unnamed narrator of an unspecified gender is part of the more privileged class of society. This person resides in the house that the two protagonists of the story, Hugh and Debora Wolfe, used to live in. The higher ups of this time had one mindset: there were two worlds society consisted of. Those that had money and were considered civilized , and the rest of the population, working tirelessly, hardly considered humans. These upper class characters proposed this idea with a rational, persuasive manner. Davis purpose was to show the reader how wrong this view was and expose the evils within the industrial society while also promising a better future. I agree with her purpose, as today s society sees the industrial revolutionas a very important piece to today s modern world. This is true, and the industrial revolution had a huge impact on how our world operates and functions today, but the darker side of this time period, working conditions, and morality are generally never discussed. The story starts off with the narrator observing the people below from a window, bustling around a middle class mill town. In the verses of Quran, By no means you attain righteousness unless you give 9freely) of that which you love, and whatever you give, of a truth God know it well. (Al Imran, 3:92). And in Hadith, the Prophet said: When a man dies his acts come to an end, except three things which is recurring charity, knowledge (by which people benefit), and pious offspring, who pray for him . Waqf is by no means an insignificant instituition in Islam. It potential can be discerned by the very insistence on the non transferability of the ownership rights of the property. Once a piece of property is given for a charitable purpose, the owner ceases to have any claims over it, because the property is said to belong to no one but Allah. This concept is great importance for the development of the poorer section of society if such waqf properties would be managed to generate inome for distribution or even for further accumulation of assets. The Graduate, directed by Mike Nichols in 1967 is an influential satire/comedy film about a recent East Coast college graduated who finds himself alienated and aimless in the changing, social and sexual general public of the 1960s, and questioning the values of society. The theme of the film is of an innocent and confused youth who is exploited, mis directed, seduced (literally and figuratively) and betrayed by a corrupt, self indulgent, and discredited older generation (that finds stability in plastics ) that I found to be quite clear and understanding, while also capturing the real spirit of the times and allows America s youth to perceive onscreen... • 13. Perot Systems Leadership Paper Perot Systems Leadership Paper Leadership is the flourishing interaction between a leader and employees. Leadership is a special case of interpersonal influence that gets an individual or group to do what the leader or manager wants done (Schermerhorn, Hunt Osborn, 2003, p. W 56). When employees are continually motivated to accomplish any task, leaders are successful. In today s progressive business world, leaders must adapt company policies, behaviors and procedures to maintain a healthy organizational culture. A successful leader does this by focusing on group dynamics and teamwork, and by motivating and reinforcing employees. This leader builds solid relationships and believes in teamwork. Mr. Meyerson was not happy with the state of the organizational culture at Perot Systems. He wanted to move Perot Systems toward a corporate model that recognized that the larger issues in life mattered as much as the demands for profit and loss (2003). In analyzing the group dynamics, he did not like what he found. Listening to senior management talk about how they handled low performers on teams bothered him (2003). He decided to offer them something they couldn t get in most high performance companies: a human organization (2003). Perot Systems used a system of financial rewards as motivational incentives. In addition, Meyerson initiated a compensation system on job performance evaluation by peers and customers (2003). As long as the incentives are meaningful, whether they are intrinsic or extrinsic the encouragement is designed to give the worker satisfaction while taking the organization in the right direction. Mr. Meyerson showed that his primary concern of his leadership style and behavior was to benefit his employees. In contrast, Mr. Perot combined the leadership styles of initiating structure and production centered. A leader high in initiating structure is more concerned with defining task requirements and other aspects of the work agenda; he or she might be seen as similar to a production centered supervisor (2003). A reduction in heart rate and a reduction in blood pressure are both signs of stress reduction, which shows that interacting with therapy dogs get the job done. The Central Student Government might argue that it is not feasible to have therapy dogs available at all times every single day, which is true, but having them around about once a week would suffice. The Central Student Government might also believe that the University of Michigan does not have the resources or money to make this happen, but many therapy dog owners volunteer their time, rather than get paid for it, so money is not an issue. For example, the organization that the University of Michigan already uses, named Therapaws of Michigan , is a non profit organization and all of their therapy dog owners are volunteers. There are very few things in the modern military of today or any military that has ever existed before our current military for that matter, that are more important than the rank structure and the the respect that is demanded of you by that rank structure. Those are two very important characteristics of every successful military unit. With added details here and there, in this essay I will mainly be discussing what respect actually is, how being respected is normally earned and in the military how it is demanded of you as a sub ordinate to any ranks higher than you or in some cases any fellow military personnel who is more senior to you and why. However skewed my opinion might be the fact is that in most cases respect is earned by the actions towards an individual. All that being said the military works a little different. An Examination of America s Two Party System Essay An Examination of America s Two Party System Democracy in the United States is based on the indirect representation of the people by elected officials who are usually chosen by direct vote. Almost from the beginning of the United States history, however, two parties have shared the great majority of the elected positions from the local level to the presidency. However, up until the mid 1850 s when the Republican partywas formed, other parties such as the Whigs, Federalists, and Anti Federalists did not last very long. The two party system is said to promote governmental stability because a single party can win a majority of political offices and, with less bickering between differing and partisan legislators, govern more efficiently. In a multiparty country, on the other hand, the formation of a government depends on the maintenance of a coalition of parties with enough total strength to form a political majority. The weakness of the ties that bind the coalition may threaten the continuance of a cabinet in power. The stability shown by the government of the United States has not been entirely due to its party system, it has been argued, but has been promoted also by the fixed tenure and strong constitutional position of the president, as well as checks and balances built into the constitution to prevent one branch of federal government from becoming too powerful. The Founding Fathers of the United States did not mention political parties in the Constitution. When George Washington left office he warned the country of the baneful effects of the spirit of party (Crabtree 18). and James Madison believed that the new nation s politics would be structured around a greater number of factions representing various segments of the electorate rather than the overwhelmingly bi partisan arrangement that exists today (Barone 64). • 27. Biological Determinism Vs Differential Socialization There are two schools of thought involved in the historical debate about gender and its manifestation in our society: biological determinism and differential socialization (Kimmel, 2013, p.2). Despite the fact that both schools make reference to gender inequality, it is important to remark that while for determinists this one is directly linked to people s innate biological traits, for sociologists, inequality is learned through the process of socialization. On one hand, determinism sets its foundations in biology and a binary expression of sex (maleand female), and states that men and women have inherited different capacities and adaptations. Determinists believe that since the moment people are born, they are predisposed by their genes, hormonal, and physically capacities to act in the world as either a men or a woman. Therefore, they argue that the inequality, or superiority of one sex over the other (in this case masculinity superiority), is a key factor (a necessity) for our society to function properly (Kimmel, 2013). The separation of powers is a doctrine for the administration of both democratic and federative states. The model was initially created in old Greece and came into broad utilization by the Roman Republic as a feature of the uncodified Constitution of the Roman Republic. The concept of separation of power has developed in a few structures at distinctive periods. Its cause is traceable to Aristotle and Plato. In around seventeenth century, a French thinker John Bodin and a British government official Locke, communicated their perspectives about the hypothesis of separation of powers. Be that as it may, it was Montesquieu who surprisingly figured this precept methodically, logically and plainly in his book Esprit des Lois (The Spirit of the Laws), distributed in the year 1748. Jeoffry s abilities to influence those around him is also brought into light in the parallel lines For he is hated by the hypocrite and miser./For the former is afraid of detection./For the latter refuses the charge (57 59). Jeoffry, even when his day s work is done (23), continues to work in God s grace by keeping the Devil at bay with his electrical skin glaring eyes (25). This use of diction seems absurd, and one wonders if Smart is not fooling his audience all along. Echoing William Blake s The Tiger and his Four Fold Vision by the vivid descriptions of his Angel Tiger (29), Smart hints that there exist multiple layers in My Cat Jeoffry . Without a doubt, Jeoffry s life can be paralleled to that of humankind. However, what kind of person does Smart speak of? Is Smart truly praising those who are devoted to God, or is he criticizing those who are over zealous in their devotions? Given the knowledge of Smart s background, ... • 40. Social Class Structure In America The social class structure in America is generally divided into mainly three strata: The rich constituting the upper class, the moderately affluent category comprising the middle class, and financially and socially backward people who form the lower class. There are also superimposing areas like the upper middle classand the lower upper class. The stratification is based on the social as well as economic environments. Although these classifications and entry to these statuses are not fixed, these three classifications give an overall perceptive of the social classification in the United Statesof America. (study.com) People who are deemed to be part of the rich upper class constitute the owners of manufacturing units and they handle most of the country s private wealth by virtue of their enterprising nature. They keep on increasing their wealth using the funds that are already available with them. Many people in this category are key government personals, hefty entrepreneurs, or chief executives of organizations. They manage an enormous amount of wealth and have control over the national economy. They work on the principle that income is the earning or similar revenue that is periodically received; on the contrary, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the last several years America witnessed a scenario in which the volume of the rich is drastically increasing. This happened at the cost of a breakdown in the volume of middle class and an increase in the volume of the poor. The most commonly used tool for measuring social inequality is the Gini coefficient. This is a scientific approach to finding the spread of wealth in a given geography. If the Gini coefficient is zero, it is a clear signal of perfect equality. If the Gini coefficient is one, it shows that the wealth in that area is not properly distributed. Studies show that America has much to improve in terms of Gini coefficient. ... CaГ±o Limones As stated before, the CaГ±o Limones oil field, the Cusiana oil field, and the Cupiagua oil field are three of the biggest oil fields in all of the Colombian territory, and are currently operated by Ecopetrol. Amongst these three oil fields a big portion of the Colombian oil production is distributed, and they are also some of the oldest oil fields. The CaГ±o Limones oil field was discovered in July 1983 by an association called the Cravo Norte association which was conformed by Ecopetrol, in that time called the Empresa Colombiana de PetrГіleos, with Occidental de Colombia, another oil company in Colombia. Companies who had previously attempted to find the Cusiana and the Cupiagua oil fields had fail, since they were not digging depth enough. Both the Cusiana and the Cupiagua are located at more than 14000 feet below the surface, which is almost twice the depth of the CaГ±o Limones oil field, causing a lot of mechanical issues and failures. Further, BP estimated that the Cusiana and Cupiagua oil fields had oil reserves for a total of 2 billion barrels of oil, with the Cusiana oil field accounting for 1.5 billion barrels of oil and the Cupiagua oil field the other 500 million barrels of oil (Knott, 1993). According to The Professional Bulletin of Army History, No. 27, the last man was drafted in December 1972 and reported for training in June 1973. Now, not only might the renewed military draft come back but also the age of compulsory service in the meat grinder might be extended from its former limit of 26 years up to 42 years of age. If individuals are forced to participate in a military campaign, the government will be relieved of one of the checks that help prevent them from engaging in unpopular or unwarranted campaigns. Sure, the government makes us do all sorts of things: serve on juries, pay taxes, have a driver?s license. When the government requires possession of a driver?s license it is for our own security, to make sure that only those who are capable to drive are on the road. When we are being asked to serve on jury, it is for our interest as well. As a society, we get to take a part in a legal decision and make sure that justice is done in our country. Even the requirement to pay taxes eventually is for our interest. The tax money helps the government to do things for us as a society, such as financing culture events, helping elders and people in need. However, asking us to risk our lives for something that not all citizens believe worth fighting for is not in our interest. People should not be forced to enlist in the army, which is one reason why we should not reinstate the military draft. In other words, since we live in a country based on freedom, the government should not take away our right to decide if we want to fight or not. We should not be forced to fight a war. We should not be forced into the meat grinder and possibly killed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, the desire for power is illustrated through symbols in the novel, and changes in the boys behavior. Throughout the boys struggle to survive, their strong thirst for power quickly begins to consume them. People of authority may use power to their advantage, such as Jack, and it may often corrupts one s mind. Power is not all bad, though corrupted authority and abuse of power have many consequences, one of which is the collapse of society. Golding uses symbolism to show how power affects the boys morals and behavior. The desire and consequences are shown with the conch, Jack vs Henry s view on power, and the killing of the pig. His encounter is short, and he cherishes what little power he had, and does not mind that his orders go unfulfilled. On the other hand, Jack lets the power go to his head. The problems included politics, economics, and the popularity of the Nazis along with the effect of the Great Depression. However, besides all these faults that appeared after the establishment of Germany s first Democracy, Weimar was handicapped from the beginning due to the effects of the First World War. Alongside the repercussions of the war, the Treaty of Versailles further lowered the chance of success for the Weimar Republic. The German President, Friedrich Ebert, and his socialist government faced numerable problems. They were well renowned by the public for having stabbed Germany in the back by signing the Armistice and agreeing defeat in WW1. By fully accepting the War Guilt clause, Germany was made responsible for paying ВЈ6,600 million pounds worth of reparations in 1919. Majority of the money was in compensation to the France for the extensive damage to their country. In the previous year 1918, the national income was roughly one third of what it had been in 1913, and so paying reparations; equivalent to 2% of the countries wealth, was a financially huge strain. Ebert was torn as to what to do. Extreme nationalists like the Nazi Party refused to acknowledge Germany s responsibility and saw these payments as a form of slavery. The Magna Carta was constructed to reduce powers by King John, and to make him regulate the country by the old English law. King John came to an agreement with a group of people who had been rebelling against him the barons, he promised the group he would observe standards of conduct. The Barons were a group of 25 men that did not agree with King John. They were unhappy with King Johns greed and cruelty. The group allocated clause 61, ensuring the king complies with the terms. The document guaranteed: freedom for the English church, protection of the law for all free men, and freedom from excessive fines and taxation on citizens. The Magna Carta is the foundation of our constitution, and has become a part of English law. There are things from the Magna Carta that still apply in our constitution. For example, in chapter 39 of the document it was stated that No freeman shall be taken or imprisoned, or disseised, or outlawed, or banished, or any ways destroyed, nor will we pass upon him, nor will we send upon him, unless by the lawful judgment of his peers, or by the law of the land. Doctorow s novel Ragtime nevertheless explores issues of identity and ethnicity that still face America in spite of its lofty ideals of individualism and diversity. It displays for the reader a rich and hypnotic portrayal of the soul of immigrant America, yet still fails to avoid ethnic bias in certain subtle ways. Whether the lapses into feelings of cultural superiority originate from the purposeful portrayal of the characters Doctorow created or without the author s conscious prior awareness, a careful reading of the text will reveal them. There were immigrants (Doctorow 5). Despite this laudable cultural advancement, the author s meaning of the term immigrant takes place within a very limited context. Asians and indigenous peoples are not invited in Ragtime; while black America is given a voice through the stubborn and noble Coalhouse and the eloquent Booker T. Washington, and the Eastern European immigrant community is given a rich and touching voice through Tateh and his daughter, Doctorow never ventured far enough along to include Asians in his spectrum of ethnic narrative. Just like the Oriental silk cushions that made Houdini feel so trapped in Father s home, they are deprived of a true voice. Great lengths are taken by Doctorow to empathize with the Eastern European immigrant community. With great emotion, he describes Father s impression of an immigrant ship, decidedly of a European identity because of the head shawls that the women wore (Doctorow 14). Voltage Limits and Currents on Power Systems Essay example The various nonlinear loads like Adjustable Speed Drives (ASD s), bulk rectifiers, furnaces, computer supplies, etc. draw non sinusoidal currents containing harmonics from the supply which in turn causes voltage harmonics. Current harmonic causes increased power system losses, excessive heating in rotating machinery, interference with nearby communication circuits and control circuits, etc. It has become a vital importance to maintain the sinusoidal nature of voltage and currents in the power system. Various international agencies like IEEE and IEC have issued standards, which put limits on various current and voltage harmonics. For reverse voltage blocking a diode is used in series with the self commutating device (IGBT) . However, GTO based configurations have restricted frequency of switching they do not need the series diode. Moreover, they cannot be used in multilevel or multistep versions to improve performance in higher ratings. The other converter used is a voltage fed type Active filter structure, as shown in Fig 2.2. It is having a self supporting dc voltage bus with a large dc capacitor. It has become very much dominant, since it is lighter, cheaper, and expandable to multilevel and multistep modes, with lower switching frequencies to improve the performance . It is more popular in UPS based applications, because in the presence of mains, the same Inverter bridge can be used as an Active Filter to eliminate harmonics of critical nonlinear loads. 2.2.2 Topology based Classification Based on the topology used the AF s can be classified as series or shunt filters, and use a combination of both called unified power quality conditioners. The Common Internet File System 8.Data Storage Techniques 8.1CIFS The Common Internet File system (CIFS) is a native file sharing protocol used by computer users across corporate intranets and Internet. It defines series of commands to pass the information between the networked computers. CIFS implements the client/server programming model. A client program sends a request to server program for access to a file or to pass a message to a program that runs in the server computer, the server then takes the requested action and gives a response. CIFS Functions are: в—ЏGet access to files that are local to the server and read and write to them в—ЏShare files with other clients using special locks в—ЏRestore connections automatically in case of network failure. в—ЏUnicode file names Similar to SMB protocol, CIFS implements the Internet s TCP/IP protocol. CIFS can be considered as supplement of existing Internet application protocols such as the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) and the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). Common Internet File System runs as an application layer network protocol used for providing shared access to files, printers, serial ports, and miscellaneous communications between nodes on a network. It also facilitates an authenticated inter process communication mechanism. 8.2Network File System (NFS) Sun Microsystems in 1984 developed a distributed file system protocol called Network File System (NFS) allowing a user on a client computer to access files over a network much like local ...
