Ford Heights Essay
Once referred to as the poorest suburb in America, the community has taken many steps to
strengthen its future. In 1987, the village changed its name to Ford Heights. Ford Heights,
formerly East Chicago Heights is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. Ford Heights
was first settled in the late 1840s. It served as a stopping point on the Underground Railroad for
runaway slaves fleeing to freedom. By the early 20th century, the area had developed into an
agricultural community of farms operated mostly by Polish, Lithuanian, and Italians. After World
War I, Blacks from the Southern U.S. migrated to the area and worked on the farms. After 1920,
more residents came to live on newly subdivided land called the Park Addition on a farm road
from Chicago Heights to Indiana. In 1924, the main east west road became a two lane concrete
highway designated as U.S. Route 30 in 1926, later known as the transcontinental Lincoln
Highway. Early settlers included the family of Alberta Armstrong. She and others organized black
and white women to raise funds for a fire truck, and by 1948, this group became the East Chicago
Heights Citizens Association. In 1949, East Chicago Heights... Show more content on

Global Realization
Eric Schlosser s book Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All American Meal explores the
effects of the spread of multinational fast food corporations into other countries, and the resulting
loss of national culture. In his chapter Global Realization Eric Schlosser claims that The global
expansion of American fast foodis homogenizing cultural identities; like Las Vegas, it offers a
brief sense of hope... that most brilliant illusion of all, a loss that feels like winning (Schlosser).
Schlosser intentionally chooses the order and content of the information and examples he provides
in order to promote his main claim. He uses both subtle and direct strategies to persuade his reader.
In order to critically evaluate the validity of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gumbel paints the picture of Mc Donalds restaurants around the world innovating and inventing
products unique to their geography, exposing food culture from one country to the rest of the
world. These days new ideas can and frequently do come from anywhere. ...plenty of other things
that originated thousands of miles away from Oak Brook, Ill., where the company is based,
have either already done so or are about to (Gumbel). This emphasis puts Gumbel away from
Schlosser, but not against; part of Schlosser s argument is the danger of the amount of power
fast food companies have gained. Gumbel attributes the success of many of the household name
companies to a decentralized model, where individual storefronts have a level of autonomy. This
practice has been key in the rapid expansion and popularity of these American grown companies.
Here, Schlosser s claim is supported by Gumbel s endorsement of the business model, the rapid
expansion of industry has led to an Americanization of cultures around the world. China s Big
Mac Attack , by James Watson goes in depth into the effect of American fast food on local culture
in China, a place very obviously changed by the introduction of the Big Mac. Watson s takes a
stance on culture change that differs from Schlosser, he attempts to show that Mc Donalds is no

Taking a Look at Blood, Sweat and Tears
No late 60s American group ever started with as much musical promise as Blood, Sweat Tears,
or realized their potential more fully and then blew it all in a series of internal conflicts and
grotesque career moves. It could almost sound funny, talking about a group that sold close to
six million records in three years and then squandered all of that momentum. They fused a rock
roll rhythm section to a horn section, held out the promise of a jazz rock fusion that could storm
the pop charts. The band was organized in New York in 1967. Al Kooper (born February 5,
1944, NY). He was an ex member of the Blues Project, in need of money and a fresh start in
music. Jim Fielder (born October 4, 1947, Denton, TX), late of Buffalo Springfield, on bass,
whom Kooper brought in from California, Kooper s former Blues Project band mate, guitarist
Steve Katz (born May 9, 1945, Brooklyn, NY) and drummer Bobby Colomby (born December
20, 1944, New York, NY), Which whom Katz was hanging out and just talking about starting a
group. He was only prepared to throw into another band if he were calling the shots. Kooper had
visualized it would have a horn section that would be as out front as Kooper s keyboards or Katz
z guitar. Colomby brought in alto saxman Fred Libsius(born November 19, 1944, New York,
NY), a longtime personal idol, and from there lineup grew, with Randy Brecker(born November

Hollywood Music Research Paper
It is common belief that music was first incorporated into films in the early 1900 s, to help drown
out the noises the projector made during viewing. In the early days, this musical coverage was
provided by an in house musician; then it later evolved into entire orchestras. In both
accompaniments, the musician or musicians would be provided with cue sheets that served as a
story map or guide to played along with the filmwhile it was being shown. In almost all instances,
the music consisted of recognizable pieces by famous composers. As the technology of projectors
and filming equipment advanced, the need for this musical distraction dwindled. However, this
sparked the artistry of film scoring and original movie music compositions. Allowing... Show more

A composer can win the award for Best Original Score, Best Scoring Adaptation, Best Original
Song Score, just to name a few. Although the composers names are often overshadowed by the
film title, their work stands on Its own. This overshadowing is similar to many of the great
classical composers relations to their works. Moonlight Sonata is one of Beethovens most
popular pieces; however, you could argue that it is so popular that many people today have no
idea that it is composed by Beethoven. Likewise, John Williams has been nominated for an
Academy Award 50 times and has scored numerous famed films. The most celebrated being the
Star Wars series, Superman, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones series, Jurassic Park,
Schindler s List, and Jaws. An individual doesn t have to watch these films to recognize the theme

grand symphonic revival. Yet, despite all his success and awards, John Williams name is

Examples Of Realism In Red Kayak
Do you know what makes a story realistic fiction? Red Kayak is a book about a kid that
witnesses a kayak accident... but was it an accident? Realistic fiction is a story that has events,
people, or dialogue that could be real. Red Kayak has many examples of realistic fiction like
credible events and authentic characters. One reason Red Kayak is a good example or realistic
fictionis because it has realistic settings. Realistic settings is a part of realistic fiction. On page 5 it
says, It s a pretty river, the Corsica. This is an example of realistic settings because the Corsica is a
real river. When Brady talks about the Corsica river, he is talking about a real setting. Another

Robert Niccol s Time Is A Film Directed By Andrew Niccol...
In Time Andrew Niccol 1.11 internal.
In Time is a film directed by Andrew Niccol. The film uses a range of film techniques to show the
inequality across time zones. We see Will striving to achieve equality among society. We see how
Will experiences near death and the struggles of trying to achieve his goal. During the scene we see
Will at the Weis party, the minute men come to question him about the wealththat Will has just
received. During the scene, we see inequality across the zones of Dayton and New Greenwich.
The director uses a range of camera techniques to show Will getting interrogated to create
suspense and a clear power struggle. We see a long shot of Will Salas when he is getting
questioned by the timekeeper Raymond Leon. Will is now suddenly trapped and is forced to be
seated into a substantial plush chair. The setting is green painted room with gold incorporated
into the decor. The long shot then transitions into a high angle shot. Through the shot, we can see
guards positioned on either side of Will. This emphasizes that Will has been ambushed and is
overpowered and that they are watching every move that Will makes. We also learn within the
scene that Will is captured and cannot escape the timekeeper as well as the guards. This contrasts
back to Dayton where the bars on Will s apartment windows symbolised that he was trapped and
was living in a controlled area. We learn that Will has ambition to make to make the system of time
vanish and to become

Roller Coaster Physics
Individuals love to go to the amusement parks and try out the rides that are available. The most
common and thrilling ride is the roller coaster. An amusement park is not an amusement park if
it does not contain a roller coaster. What makes these roller coasters so fun that every amuse
parks has one. A lot of people would say it is their extreme high speeds that makes it very
exciting. That is a valid answer, but it is the wrong answer. The speed has nothing to do with the
excitement. It is more than likely that most people travel faster on their ride along the highway on
the way to the amusement park than they would in a roller coaster. Basically the thrill all comes
from the acceleration and the feeling of weightlessness that they... Show more content on

A rightward moving rider gradually becomes an upward moving rider, then a leftward moving
rider, then a downward moving rider, before finally becoming a rightward moving rider once
again. There is a continuing change in the direction of the rider as he/she will moves through the
clothoid loop. A change in direction is one thing of an accelerating object. The rider also changes
speed. As the rider begins to climb upward the loop, he/she begins to slow down. What we talked
about suggests that an increase in height results in a decrease in kinetic energy and speed and a
decrease in height results in an increase in kinetic energy and speed. So the rider experiences the
greatest speeds at the bottom of the loop. The change in speed as the rider moves through the
loop is the second part of acceleration which the riders experiences. A rider who moves through a
circular loop with a constant speed, the acceleration is centripetal and towards the center of the
circle. In this case of a rider moving through a noncircular loop at non constant speed, the
acceleration of the rider has two components. There is a component which is directed towards the
center of the circle (ac) and relates itself to the direction change and the other component is directed
tangent (at) to the track and relates itself to the car s change in speed. This tangential component

The Importance Of Ancient Traditions On Modern Culture
This class was extremely interesting. Being an older student, I have had the opportunity to live all
over the United States from the west coast to the east coast and many places in between, including
a year each in Germany and Hawaii. I have been exposed to many different cultures, religions,
peoples, lifestyles, and beliefs. But, this sociologyclass has exposed me to new ideas which is what
learning is supposed to accomplish. Three things that stood out for me is how ancient traditions are
still part of modern cultures, how some traditions within a culturemay be viewed as abusive by
other people, and how defining something as deviant is not always the same as time goes by.
With the many cultures that are found throughout the world, many spanning thousands of years, it
is not unusual to find that old traditions still influence modern culture. One example of this is the
practice of Chado or the way of tea which is the ancient art of the Japanese tea ceremony that is still
performed to this day in a ceremony that can last for hours (Ancient Rituals of Japan). The Japanese
society also still celebrates many other ancient rituals and festivals, such as the Hanami Matsuri,
where families gather under the cherry trees and enjoy the beauty as the blossoms fall. Finally, the
ancient culture within the country of India, which was the birthplace of Hinduism and Buddhism
many centuries ago, still has about 84 percent of the population that are Hindu (Zimmerman). These

The BCG also allows a multidivisional organization to manage its portfolio of businesses by
examining the relative market share position and the industry growth rate of each division
which related to the other divisions in the organization. The BCG model is based on the product
life cycle theory which can be used to determine which one of the product should be given the
priority in the product portfolio of a business unit. It is usually based on the observations towards
the company s business units that it can be classified into four categories based on combinations
of market growth and market share relative to the largest competitors that brings the name of
growth share . As to make sure that the long term value creation is made, the company should
have a specification of the products which contains both high growth products in need of cash
inputs and low growth products that generate a lot of cash. The BCG matrix portrays the
perspective of the product portfolio, which is the growth share matrix. This framework of tool
categorizes products within a company s portfolio or within the business units as stars, cash cows,
dogs, or question marks according to growth rate, market share, and positively or negative cash
flow. By using positive cash flows a company can capitalize on growth opportunities. From this

Henri Matisse Biography
Henri Matisse was a French artist during the late 19th and early 20th century. In 1941, Matisse
was diagnosed with abdominal cancer leaving him bedridden. His art moved from paintings,
sculptures, and printmakings to decoupage. With the help of assistants, Matisse produced art by
arranging colorful pre painted sheets of paper into dynamic compositions. This technique was
his major medium in the final decade of his life. Matisse created dynamic compositions using the
decoupage method and later introduced text to create his own artist books. One of Matisse s
most famous books was Jazz, first issued in 1947. Jazz contained art that featured Matisse s
colorful and abstract use of decoupage. Each piece is vibrant in color and is very complex. Most
of the pieces contain some sort of rhythmic pattern that balance the complexity of each piece. The

The works of art in this book were black and white unlike the bright, vibrant colors of Jazz.
Matisse used mostly simple line work instead of shapes to imply objects and create movement.
The images were raw and felt more sketched out. Jazz created a more positive mood with its
color scheme while PasiphaГ©, Chant de Minos created a calmer and less energetic mood. The
typeface in PasiphaГ©, Chant de Minos was thin and serif which fit the style and mood of this
book more that the typeface used in Jazz. Overall, PasiphaГ©, Chant de Minos is calm and
graphic with simple line work that creates movement and tension in the images. Jazz was vibrant
and bold. Each composition was thoughtfully placed to create complex yet balanced works of art.
Matisse s use of black and white and line work in PasiphaГ©, Chant de Minos created a more
relaxed energy to the book. Although these two artist books are produced using the decoupage
method, they are vastly different in

Sustainable development has become each country s priority and to effectively achieve this growth
many countries use natural resources in production to comply with the consumers needs, at the
same time making sure that the future generations needs are also met (Repetto et al., 1989). Hence
the use of natural resources in production is processed carefully and effectively yet, even with
cautious dealings accidents occur which result in chaos. Similarly the Montara oil spill in 2009
caused chaos in the Timor Sea and its surrounding population immensely. On 21st August 2009
Australia witnessed one of its worst oil disasters, an oil and gas leak that occurred in the
Montara oil field in the Timor Sea. The leak occurred due to an explosion and it finally ended on
3rd November 2009. During the leak and even years after the issue of compensation still hung
above the company PTTEP Australasia (PTTEP AA). In this essay we will explore the incident
through the perspectives of PTTEP AA, the people of West Timor and the marine environment.
Henceforth we will come to the conclusion of how this ongoing issue can be best handled.
The Montara oil spill lasted 74 days and during that time the oil spill effected the an Indonesian
island s population, marine environment and caused reoccurring nightmares for PTTEP AA who
were trying to seal the oil leak. PTTEP AA had the duty to secure the safety of the workers at the

Summary Of Animalistic Desire By D. H. Lawrence
D.H Lawrence s ideas of love and interpersonal attraction are nothing if not polarizing. His
distillation of love to an animalistic desire can be seen as either the height or death of romanticism.
One may argue that such uncontrollable hormonal puppeteering undermines the human element of
restraint or a more noble idea of loveas unique companionship. In a sense, Lawrence challenges the
notion of separation between and the beasts; he suggests the protestant fueled traditions of
courtship are not a sign of human elevation, but a convolution of instinct that is as primal as the
lust of thirst. However, Lawrence may also represent the life of romanticism, shaping such animal
drive into the current of a more galvanistic construct of romance.... Show more content on

Early conflict, before grandiose confrontations of love, is found when Dr. Fergusson considers the
contradictions he feels for the town he works and lives in. Walking through the dreary countryside
he muses:
It wore him out, but at the same time he had a craving for it. It was a stimulant to him to be in
the homes of the working people, moving as it were through the innermost body of their life. His
nerves were excited and gratified. He could come so near, into the very lives of the rough,
inarticulate, powerfully emotional men and women. He grumbled, he said he hated the hellish hole.
But as a matter of fact it excited him, the contact with the rough, strongly feeling people was a
stimulant applied direct to his nerves. (237)
His love hate relationship stems from two conflicting inner personalities. The first Fergusson is a
man of medicine, sophisticated and reasonable. He is repulsed by downtrodden town, seeing it as
the antithesis of all that his education represents. The second man is a reaction to the discipline
and restraint required to create the first emotional, craving excitement, and attracted to the
simplicity and assertiveness of uneducated people. The conflicts between the doctor s opposing
sides are soon mirrored in his blooming, although sudden, romance. Initially, the logical side of Dr.
Fergusson views Mabel as simply his friend s sister, willing to strike up polite conversation, yet
hesitant at her dangerous eyes that always

In 2003, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) released a campaign called
Holocaust on Your Plate . This display compared pictures of animals in a slaughterhouse against
pictures of Nazi concentration camp. This campaign stemmed from Nobel Prize winning author
Isaac Bashevis Singer, who wrote: In relation to them [animals], all people are Nazis; for them it
is an eternal Treblinka a death camp in Poland (CNN, 2003). It s meant to emotionally target the
viewer, similar to a scare tactic. It was also deeply insulting to many holocaust survivors. I believe
this was a poor decision on PETA s part, and the bad definitely outweighed the good for everyone.

A mix of legal questioning, high emotional ties, and extremely poor taste make this an ethical
case of high stakes and varied opinions, but one thing is clear: PETA s Holocaust on a Plate is
ethically wrong. The mass murder of millions in a catastrophic historical event should not be
appropriated as a tool to gain support for an organization s agenda. The comparison is disgustingly
insensitive and takes advantage of others suffering to make a statement. PETA should utilize a
different strategy to convey their message. The CEO of PETA will receive better press, and the
overall reputation of the already controversial organization will improve. The backlash did nothing

There is not enough evidence whether these things impact a child in having ADHD or not (CDC,
2017). This shows the reader that the speaker is trustworthy because it reflects an ethical view of
all possible causes. Appealing to ethics is a big component in influencing the reader. A reader must
be able to trust the writer is being ethical, in order to trust the information.
The CDC demonstrates a great use of pathos on ADHD. The use of pathos is the appeal to
emotions. This is the ability to persuade the audience by having them feel something with the
text written (Walker, 2005). The CDC appeals to pathos by discussing the number of adults and
children that are affected by ADHD (CDC, 2017). This information connects to people that may
have loved ones that are affected by ADHD and offers hope in the way of resources and
treatment. Making an emotional connection with the audience is important, in order to
successfully keep the reader invested in the topic. The CDC used pictures to appeal to the
audience as well. A great example of illustration, used by the CDC, is the picture with a Mother
and two kids talking to a doctor (CDC, 2017). Readers that have children can relate to the
emotional toll that would come with a child affected by ADHD. The CDC also offers several
resources for their readers to get help. This also creates an emotional connection with the reader, as

The Relevance Of The Nascaturus Fiction
The purpose of this essay is to discuss the rule and law of the nasciturus fiction, with reference to
legal subjectivity. It aims to investigate the relevance of the nascaturus fiction within South African
law, and with reference to cited cases, demonstrate the reality of this law within current times.
Many meaning exist for the term birth within South African law. South African law is based on
Roman Dutch law, and analysing the structure of Roman Dutch law may aid in the interpretation of
the nasciturus fiction within South African law.
Birth registration was not a lawfully necessary action in ancient Rome, but was rather used to
determine proof of birth and age [1]. No damages in terms of law were suffered by people who did
not register children at birth, and it did not lead to any disadvantages within law [2]. However, the
use of such birth registration proved fruitless as it did not effectively prove a person s age.
The term legal subjectivity arises, and this is questionable in terms of the nasciturus fiction. Legal
subjectivity, in terms of law, begins at birth, provided that the birth is successful and the baby born.
Common law requirements state: The body of the nasciturus or foetus must be separated from the
body of the mother; it is not required that the umbilical cord be cut; the child must live after being
born, even for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should be noted that the nasciturus fiction and the nasciturus rule differ. The nasciturus rule
allows that if a situation arises where a foetus would have benefited if it was born, the rights that
would be given to the born child are conferred to the foetus. This results in the foetus becoming a
legal person. The foetus subsequently has legal capacity and subjectivity from the date upon which
conception is placed. It is not necessary for the child to be born alive in the case of the nasciturus

The Book Lolita Essay
Lolita The book Lolita is a highly controversial novel written by Vladimir Nabokov. Lolita tells the
story of a man, Humbert Humbert, and his utter infatuation with a young nymphet named Lolita.
The book and subsequent film adaptations, specifically Stanley Kubrick s 1962 adaptation and
Adrian Lyne s 1997 adaptation aim to create a feeling of sympathy for the protagonist, Humbert
Humbert. Through the use of first person narration, Humbert Humbert is able to manipulate readers
with simple inaccuracies, making him an unreliable narrator. The term unreliable narrator was
famously coined by Wayne Booth in Rhetoric of Fiction. Booth defines the reliable and unreliable

He describes himself ambiguously as a murderer with a sensational but incomplete and unorthodox
memory (217) when trying to recall the first instance where he notices that he and Lolita are being
pursued on their second trip through the
States. This self confessed fallibility of memory can further be observed in the arbitrary
rearrangement of events, such as the instance where he mixes up two separate visits to Briceland
with Rita. He defensively ascribes an importance to this mix up by noting that such suffusions of
swimming colors are not to be disdained by the artist in recollection (263), perhaps arguing that
mishaps are sometimes to be expected when creating art.
Humbert refers to himself as a very conscientious recorder after telling Lolita about his plans to
marry Charlotte over the telephone (72). He maintains that it is his artistic duty to have the
passage covering his marriage to Charlotte in the same style as his journal from that time in order
to avoid biased remarks (71). Furthermore, he is able to recall certain happenings with astounding
clarity. Chapter eleven includes several pages of diary writing which he manages to include in their
entirety by claiming to have a photographic memory (40). Similarly, he remembers the confessional
letter Charlotte wrote to him verbatim, albeit presenting only half of it, leaving out a lyrical

ENG 230 Language in Society
Research question: What are the factors behind the variations of language use among adults in
Lebanon?
Annotated Bibliography
Bhatia, T. Ritchie W. (June 9, 2008). The Handbook of Bilingualism. John Wiley Sons.
This book offers a full guide to understanding the bilingualism phenomenon. It analyses it from a
cognitive perspective, as well as its different types such as code switching and code mixing. This
book will help me analyze my data on the level of the different types and motivations of
bilingualism.
Clyne, M. Kipp, S. (1999). Pluricentric Languages in an Immigrant Context: Spanish, Arabic and
Chinese. Walter de Gruyter.
This book presents a table of comparison of Language use in the home among children and adults,
Egypt and Lebanon groups, followed by an analysis of the table. This table is very useful because
it shows that, when compared to children in Lebanon, the Lebanese adults have a very big
preference for Arabic. This is an indispensable work for any sociolinguistic paper.
Ellias, N. (November 1, 2008). In the Hands of the Refiner: A Story from Lebanon. Xlibris
Corporation.
This book illustrates the author s perception of her first encounters with Lebanon; Lebanese
people and Lebanese culture at the age of 12, and it is useful because it provides an insight of an
outsider who is analyzing how Lebanese people talk. She describes how Lebanese people shift to
Arabic sometimes because that

The Sanity Of Hamlet
Weight, height, awkwardness or other, societal pressures and standards have people struggling
with insecurities and suppressed actions. Humans always have a flaw in themselves that they will
repress. With this, they believe it is gone forever until something traumatizing will bring it out.
Stress and shock from the event will be so intense that there is no time to consider the societal
expectations. The one common thing all humans can agree on is the need for love and recognition.
In William Shakespeare s Hamlet, the main character, Hamlet, had his father killed and his mother
married to his uncle. Hamlet s pressures from society and family and his lacking masculine figure
and appreciation lead him to insanity. Hamlet s jealousy over Claudius... Show more content on

Started with standard unnatural behavior with people, until he came to a point where he didn t
notice the change because he didn t think he was insane. In the beginning when his hair splitting
is pleasant banter for his friends, while to the others there is a barrier behind which he hides his
thoughts and motives (Davis 631). Davis explains that Hamlet is acting differently depending
on who he is with depending on the social structure. With friends during the beginning scene of
the Ghost, since they are not at his level he feels a barrier full of pressure with them as he needs
to please them and be someone different that even Ophelia claims Hamlet with a look so piteous
in purport as if he had been loosГЁd out of hell (Act II.I 37). Naturally, humans change around
different statuses of people and relationship to themselves. Compared to his attitude with Ophelia,
alone Hamlet depressively says to be or not to be: that is the question (Act III.I 67) wondering if
being alive is even worth it. Failing to see later change in Hamlet, Davis shows strong evidence that
Hamlet is hiding something from the audience. Hamlet not only changes around people, but
throughout the the play. On the other hand, Shafer asserts the binary opposition in later of the play
of normal and abnormal that will be empowered to act as an oppositional force to the nefarious acts

Evaluation Of A Field Supervisor
Situation My day was planned so I thought, I was scheduled to go out with my mentor, Francis.
We had a full day planned with the possibility of me making a school contact alone. My field
supervisor, Stephanie and I were having our usual morning chat when we were approached by
foster care worker, Ms. Williams. She wanted me to supervise some parenting time, so she could
attend court. I had supervised parenting time before and I will admit it is not the most exciting
thing to do. Parenting time can last up to 4 hours requiring you to sit at the room door and monitor
the parents interactions with their children. Although it can be quite daunting, I do however
understand the importance of this family time. I was immediately put on the spot and I really
wanted to say no to supervising this time for her. I also did not wantto be uncooperative or not a
team player in the presence of my field supervisor.
Field Instructors Response
Stephanie picked up that I really did not want to do it because she knows how much I enjoy
going out in the field. She asked me to do her this favor and help Ms. Williams out and I did.
Stephanie asked me how the supervising time went and thanked me for helping out in a time of need
. I expressed to her that I was proud of myself for taking responsibility for the entire visit and
managing some quite difficult parents without incidence.
Performance
My desire to get hired at the Children s Protective Services is making me overly anxious so

Stereotype A Thought By Beverly Daniel Tatum
Stereotype a Thought Today, many believe that stereotypes have been eradicated throughout our
modern world, this is far from the truth. Beverly Daniel Tatum, an author of several books
including Why Are Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria asks, How did academic
achievement become defined as exclusively white behavior? Tatum has an interesting point,
however stereotyping is not just about race it can be about gender bias, or body issues too. Ann
DuCille, author of From Multicultural Barbie and the Merchandising of Difference says;
Barbie s body is a consumer object itself a vehicle for display of clothing and spectacular trappings
of a wealthy teenage fantasy life . Ducille gives a good example of body politics, and the
importance of not only focusing on race. Thus, is a good example of how stereotypes are learned
by how one is treated in schoolor at home. Education about racial identity, gender equality, and
body shaming, to an extent, will help eliminate some forms of stereotyping and create a more
understanding and equal society. Therefore schools are not the problem, stereotypes, however
racist, sexist, or just plain mean, are learned at home and in schools from peers, parents and
teachers alike. In a way, stereotypes will never truly be eliminated from our world because from the
day we are born we notice differences. One may argue that it is just a distinction between people,
which constitutes stereotyping. Just

I Am A Man Has Ever Dreamed Of Doing
The Final Verdict
I, impey barbicane have done something no man has ever dreamed of doing, planning and
executing a 3.5 day long journey to the white and gray, dusty, rocky surface of Earth s one and
only satellite, the Moon. Yet here I am, with my Philadelphian armor making rival, Captain
Nicholl and French poet, Michel Ardan. The ride is not a fun one; rather the opposite. In fact, my
arms and legs are so tired, I just wish I could be a mere infant once again, holding on to my mum
and not having to do anything at all.
Nicholl is great company, as realizing that we have more things in common that we thought a year

After a little while, we will be grasped and sucked into the Moon s gravitational field, where we

We, pioneers of interstellar travel, explorers of the space, cannot see anything outside our
miniscule capsule for three men, as the walls are thick with aluminum, which is not a
transparent metal sadly, but rather opaque. This is another flaw in our capsule that Nicholl had
pointed out to me, but I was cocky and overconfident to shrug aside as an elephant would do to
an ant. But now, I lament and grief over this decision, as it was a very fundamental one to my
notes and observation. being a part of the first three men to ever travel in space, I must return to
my mother planet, the Earth and return these writings so humanity can learn and create, plan,

so I decide to sit there and close my eyes, just as Nicholl has decided to do. It isn t long before I

Moon Ahoy!
I wake up to Ardan s loud talking. In case you never knew, Michel social Ardan is an extremely

It was the English who played the major part in setting British North America were Protestants of a
distinct type. When the youthful Edward VI succeeded Henry VII in 1547, his Protestant advisors
greatly accelerated the pace of religious change in England. They enhanced the authority of such
leaders as the Archbishop of Canterbury Thomas Cranmer, whose liturgical theology was a subtle
blend of Lutheran and reformed emphases seasoned by the wisdom of the early church. And they
encouraged the removal of Roman Catholic practices and customs that had survived under Henry
VIII. In this reforming context the most advanced group of Protestants seized the opportunity to
push reform in England to what they thought was its logical conclusion. King Edwards died in
1553 and was successful by his half sister Mary Tudor. Under her rule, Protestants, common
people as well as leaders such as Cranmer, went to the flames for their conviction. Others laid low

Customer Service and Relationship Marketing
Customer Service
Customer service is an art and a science and it is something that many firms do not do well, let
alone perfect. Excellent customer service is defined by being pleasant with the customer and
providing them with assistance regarding just about anything and everything that they require and
need relative to the service or good that they are purchasing. A customeris any buyer or even
potential buyer of the good or service being and the customers need and/or expect that the good
or service be reasonably price and be delivered as promised based on what is advertised and/or
what is commonly accepted and industry standard about the good or service. The best way to
build a customer focused strategy is to construct a framework and process that is as common
sense and stream lined as possible so that it addresses the ongoing concerns of the business while
at the same time reasonably helping and assisting the customers get what they need out of the good
or service. Going above and beyond what the customer requires is always a plus and will engender
good will and return visits by the customer, more often than not (Swinburn, 2006)(Sheldrake,
1998)(Shaw Ivins, 2005).
Core Elements of Service Process
There are several major elements of the service process. These elements are strong leadership,

Background And Setting Of An Air Force Base Essay

setting of an Air Force Base, I ve written background and setting descriptions.
Skip to the Observation section if desired.
I was disappointed that my hypothesis did not prove correct. However, by walking through the
store after the observation time some of my hypothesis was vindicated when I found people forming
groups inside the store.
I like to watch group dynamics. The interactions between people draw my eyes attention. The
human dynamic makes this interesting, but only if they are interacting. As far as my lens goes, if
people aren t interacting, there s nothing happening.
Background. When people agree to defend the United States by putting on a military uniform, they
are commonly referred to as being in the military. Many papers have been written about being in
the military, but I think the meaning is unique and personal to each member of the armed forces.
To me, after 17 years of being on active duty wearing the Air Force uniform, I am in the military
just as a non military person is in society. The military lifestyle is a microcosm of the larger
American way of life. In our ranks we have upstanding citizens, caring parents, honest and hard
working men and women as our airmen, soldiers, sailors and marines. We have married, single,
homosexual and heterosexual people. We have pedophiles, wife beaters, thieves and embezzlers.

Blade Runner Themes In Frankenstein
In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley shows a variety of themes that concern creation of humanity, family,
the sublime. Shelley presents these themes through characters, and the actions and emotions
experienced in particular situations. With these themes in Frankenstein, there are similar
relationships that are in Scott Ridley s Blade Runner. The theme of creation that is used in
Frankenstein, comes from the main character of Victor Frankenstein, who wants to successfully
create a human life form. Shelley criticizes Victor that not only creating a new being, but for
abandoning the creature when it came to life. The theme of creation is also referenced in Blade
Runner when it comes to the creation of the Replicants because they were supposed to be better
humans than humans. Dr. Tyrell, Blade Runner. The Replicants were created with a fix life span
of only four years, which was to prevent them from getting out of control. Similar to the Victor
Frankenstein, Dr. Tyrell has complications when creating his lifeforms for which he doesn t want
their responsibility Family is an important theme in Frankenstein because the creature wants to
desperately have a companion so that he can no longer be lonely in the world. This was also due
to the rejection of appearance and overall disgust society had for the creature, and his own creator
is disgusted by him. This causes the creature to go into denial and draws him to evil causing him
to kill people that are close or even related to his

Depression And Substance Abuse
The occurrence or diagnosis of depression in relation to drug use or abuse presents itself as a bi
directional relationship. Meaning the onset of one of these factors (depression or already present
substance use) creates an equal opportunity for the consequence of another factor to appear. Both
depression and substance use and dependency have the potential to co habitat each other in a
comorbid state. Symptoms occurring with depression, especially if they are left untreated, are
shown to have increased rates of drug use potential while consistent substance use and abuse can
cause depressive symptoms. In examining each condition separately and in conjunction of one

In order to examine this relationship, substance abuse and addiction need to be understood on its
own first. Drug addictions contuse to persist on both a national and global level; it is also
significant to mention that such issues create a heavy burden on government and justice systems
that deal with them. In fact, 9% of Americans meet the diagnostic criteria for a substance abuse
disorder (6% for alcohol and 3% for illicit drugs), making it one of the most common chronic
diseases in the United States (Compton Change 2017). Such prevalence adds pressure to
government systems and taxpayers as they are, estimated to cost Americans more than $400 billion
annually: $224 billion for alcohol ($25 billion in health care) and $193 billion for illicit drugs ($11
billion in health care) (Compton and Chang 2017). Now, substance abuse or addiction are
considered, psychiatric illnesses with specific indicators [which include] a strong desire to use (or
craving), and [interruption of] life activities [which are] generally reduced to drug seeking, drug
using, and recovering from the effects of use (Compton Chang 2017) When an individual tries an
addictive substance like nicotine, alcohol, or other illicit drugs, it activates certain parts of the brain
which can induce, pleasurable feelings and, very strong memories that drive subsequent behaviors
to repeat the rewarding experience (Compton Change 2017). If such a drive continues to persist it
can transition into a habit and create a dependency on that substance. Now, likewise to treatments to
depression, those who suffer from substance abuse disorders also have a variety of treatment
options. These treatment options include long term and short term residential treatments (inpatient
and outpatient), individualized drug counseling, and group counseling (NIDA, n.d). With

Newton s mathematical acumen came to the fore when he read Rene Descartes Geometry and

following year, England was hit with plague and Cambridge was no exceptions; the university

Opticks, in which he stated that just a prism can split white light into this spectrum of colors, so
can a second prism return the separated colors into white light. Consequently, he also laid

Intrinsic And Extrinsic Factors Of Skin Aging
Skin aging is a process that naturally occurs in human beings from birth and is different in each
person due to intrinsic and extrinsic factors. To find out what has the most influence on the
human skin, both factors need to be fully researched. You can also look at other details to do
with skin aging like the process of it, the appearance of it and how it can be prevented. Both factors
will be covered as both are completely different processes of the skinaging. It would be true to say
that not all 70 year old females have the same skin, as many factors will affect how the skin of a 70
year old could look.
Time and age associated exposure characteristics, such as obesity and duration of exposure, are the
direct factors, and not age itself. Aging in todays environment by The National Research Council
1987.
Aging of the skin has many different factors contributing towards it and those factors fit into two
different categories; extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic includes a group of factors that people can
influence themselves such as smoking, diet, sun damage and skin care. Intrinsic factors are those
that are part of the natural aging process such as genetics and hormones. Skin aging is also
affected by skin type, gender, age and ethnicity which can alter the aging process also.
To slow down the aging process, you can alter things in your everyday life, for example smoking
which is an extrinsic factor. Dr. Milton Moore, a Houston based dermatologist says

King Sundiata Research Paper
One of the most powerful Kings of the Kingdom of Mali in the 1200s was Sundiata Keita. He
was known for many different things throughout history such as taking back the Kingdom of
Mali, where he grew up. He was also known for establishing the city of Niani as the capital of the
empire. These are a couple things Sundiata Keita is known for during his tenure as King. When
Sundiata was a child, Maliwas a very small kingdom at the time. While he was still a child, the
Soso people captured Mali and took control of the empire. Sundiata became a captive member of
the Soso, he lived with the leader of the Soso (see Sundiata Keita of Mali ). When he was seven
years old, Sundiata began to become stronger. He learned how to walk and started exercising
every day. In just a few years, he changed himself into a strong warrior. He was determined to
free Mali from the Sosos and fled into exile. While in exile, Sundiata became famous as a feared
warrior and fighter. After several years, he decided to return to Mali in order to make Mali a
better place. The people of Mali were tired of the high taxes that the Soso rulers asked of them and
wanted to revolt. After 1240, Sundiata led no further quests but consolidated his hold on the states
already under his control. His... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Sundiata was a Muslim, he allowed the people to practice whatever religion they
pleased. After defeating the Soso, Keita merged his power towards the people of his empire and
established a strong centralized monarchy (see Sundiata Keita, Hero of the Mali Empire ). When
Keita died, his son Uli became the mansa, or King, of Mali. The Malinke people of west Africa
continued to regard Sundiata Keita as a national hero. His death was estimated to have taken place
around the 1260 s. Ibn Khaldun and other fourteenth century North African historians indicate that
Sundiata Keita ruled Mali for roughly 25 to 30

Best Marine Wax Essay
Best Marine Wax
There are very few reasons a person may look forward to winter. However, what you may not be
considering is the simple fact that wintertime means it is a great time to get ready for summer
fun, especially if you are a boat owner who loves spending time on the water. It does take some
effort to winterize your boat, but it goes a long way in ensuring it is ready for fun during the
summer. Did you know that you can take it one step further with the best marine wax available?
Why Use Marine Wax?
Most newer boats have a high gloss shine on them. This gloss is provided by a type of resin that
is commonly referred to as a gelcoat. This gel coating is put into the boat s molding when it is
being manufactured so that it is shinier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If your boat is looking a little dull, you can often bring the shine back to it with a little bit of
marine wax. You do have to be prepared for a little bit of extra effort, which is why many prefer to
handle it while they are winterizing their boat or soon afterward.
How to Wax a Boat?
The first thing you will need to do before you wax is you will want to thoroughly clean your boat.
If you are not sure how to clean your boat, you can wash it the same as you would wash your
vehicle. You only need a bucket of water, a sponge, and some detergent. You may also use
fiberglass cleaner or bleach if you have stains or mildew. You will need to work at it and ensure that
it is grease free before you begin waxing.
To apply and use the wax, you will need a cloth or a foam pad. You put it on by rubbing in a
circular motion and let it dry until your boat has a dull haze. Buff off the residue with another soft
cloth that is dry. If your boat is very dull, you may have to do it a time or two to reach full
glossiness.
If you are wondering how often you should wax, the answer is that you can choose how often.
Waxing is a personal preference for most people and it can be done as you feel necessary.
Professionals will tell you that it is something that should be done at least twice a year to ensure

Cooper (2003) noted that most new innovations come with high risks as most of them failed in the
marketplace creating the need for marketers to have a clear understanding of success factors in
brand adoption. Theories of adoption have often been used to explain how consumers form
preferences for various goods and services.
Brand awareness is the ability for a customer to recognize or recall that a brand is a member of a
certain product category (Aaker, 2011).
Brand awareness is a fundamental attribute of customer brand equity. It tends to be an
underestimated component of brand equity (Tong Hawley, 2009). Brand awareness includes two
elements which are brand recall and brand recognition. According to Aaker (1996) there is a
positive relationship between trust, value and brand equity. Trust is the faith put into a brand with
regard to its quality, consistency, etc. Value is created by providing a solution to consumers needs
and wants in a way that the cost to the consumer is fair considering the benefits gained (Aaker,

Affective Diversity Paper
Three affective outcomes of diversity would be receiving, responding, and organization (Wilson,
2017, p.2). By having this three affective diversity you will have the potential to grow as a team.
Receiving means getting new information; Moreover, you need to be open minded about the
information giving to you. Furthermore, you need to consider what the new information is (Miller,
2017). Receiving also means to listen carefully to the information before you say anything. No
matter how you feel about the information you need to be nice (Clark, 2015). Responding is where
you actively get involved and interact with the new information (Miller, 2017). With responding
this is where you give your ideas and participate in discussions with the team

Summary Of The Bitter Pill
The Bitter Pill: Why medical bills are killing us written by Steven Brill delves into the question as
to why medical bills are so high. As Brill begins his research he analyzed bills from hospitals,
doctors, and drug companies. Additionally, he interviewed doctors, Medicare and insurance
administrators, and gathered patient stories across the nation. He found that the United Statesspent
more money on healthcare than any other developed countries, he stated We may be shocked at
the $60 billion price tag for cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy, [however], we spent almost that
much last week on healthcare (Brill 2013). He also noted yet in every measurable way, the
results our healthcare system produces are no better and often worse than the outcomes in those
countries (Brill 2013). From the charts and graphs that Brill provided shows that the sixty
percent of personal bankruptcy filings per year are related to medical bills. Life expectancy in
the United States is the lowest amongst the countries that spend most on healthcare, our infant
mortality rank is fiftieth in the world, and that one pill cost as much as seven pills in other
developed countries such as France. Brill found that in many similar cases, like that ones he
presented in the article, Medicare would have at least paid for a small portion of the bill. However,
those who don t qualify for Medicaid and don t have insurance are often asked to pay excessive
prices.
Strengths
Although the United States is said to offer poor health services among other developed countries, it
still has some internal features that makes the system thrive over most healthcare system. One of
the major strength in the healthcare system is the breakthrough of technology advances. Some
technologies may improve the efficiency of care delivery by reducing procedure time, length of
stay, or number of hospitalizations, thereby increasing the capacity of the hospital to treat
additional patients (Sorenson et al 2013). In which, also favors many patients whom wished to
receive their test results sooner or on the estimated arrival date.
Another strength is that the medical research systems are some of the best in the world. Institutions

The, Peace, Night, Day, Love, Hate
Introduction
Binaries are embedded within every facet of our perceptions. War, peace, night, day, love, hate; we
are inclined to believe that every subject, idea, and thing has a polarizing companion. While this
paradigm may be beneficial in understanding the distinction and differences between these pairs, it
fails to entertain an idea even more compelling; that these polar opposites may not in fact be that
different from one another, and the bold notion that these dichotomies might not be as real as we
presume. Art and physics have been traditionally painted as polar opposites; neither resembling the
other even remotely. One is rational, objective, and logical, while the other is interpretive,
subjective, and, at times, seemingly illogical. While these superficial characteristics make a
persuasive argument for an antagonistic relationship between these subjects, it fails to acknowledge
their overarching commonality. Both disciplines have rich and prolific histories, saturated with
radical ideas, incredible individuals, and ground breaking discoveries and progressions. These rich
histories have provided the necessary foundation for the modern interpretations of these subjects
and all the wonderful innovations and understandings this modernity has entailed. While many
factors, movements, and people are responsible for this progression, two such movements in
particular have caused radical paradigm shifts in their respective disciplines. Impressionism and

  • 2. Ford Heights Essay Once referred to as the poorest suburb in America, the community has taken many steps to strengthen its future. In 1987, the village changed its name to Ford Heights. Ford Heights, formerly East Chicago Heights is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. Ford Heights was first settled in the late 1840s. It served as a stopping point on the Underground Railroad for runaway slaves fleeing to freedom. By the early 20th century, the area had developed into an agricultural community of farms operated mostly by Polish, Lithuanian, and Italians. After World War I, Blacks from the Southern U.S. migrated to the area and worked on the farms. After 1920, more residents came to live on newly subdivided land called the Park Addition on a farm road from Chicago Heights to Indiana. In 1924, the main east west road became a two lane concrete highway designated as U.S. Route 30 in 1926, later known as the transcontinental Lincoln Highway. Early settlers included the family of Alberta Armstrong. She and others organized black and white women to raise funds for a fire truck, and by 1948, this group became the East Chicago Heights Citizens Association. In 1949, East Chicago Heights... Global Realization Eric Schlosser s book Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All American Meal explores the effects of the spread of multinational fast food corporations into other countries, and the resulting loss of national culture. In his chapter Global Realization Eric Schlosser claims that The global expansion of American fast foodis homogenizing cultural identities; like Las Vegas, it offers a brief sense of hope... that most brilliant illusion of all, a loss that feels like winning (Schlosser). This emphasis puts Gumbel away from Schlosser, but not against; part of Schlosser s argument is the danger of the amount of power fast food companies have gained. Gumbel attributes the success of many of the household name companies to a decentralized model, where individual storefronts have a level of autonomy. This practice has been key in the rapid expansion and popularity of these American grown companies. Here, Schlosser s claim is supported by Gumbel s endorsement of the business model, the rapid expansion of industry has led to an Americanization of cultures around the world. China s Big Mac Attack , by James Watson goes in depth into the effect of American fast food on local culture in China, a place very obviously changed by the introduction of the Big Mac. • 4. Taking a Look at Blood, Sweat and Tears No late 60s American group ever started with as much musical promise as Blood, Sweat Tears, or realized their potential more fully and then blew it all in a series of internal conflicts and grotesque career moves. It could almost sound funny, talking about a group that sold close to six million records in three years and then squandered all of that momentum. They fused a rock roll rhythm section to a horn section, held out the promise of a jazz rock fusion that could storm the pop charts. The band was organized in New York in 1967. Al Kooper (born February 5, 1944, NY). He was an ex member of the Blues Project, in need of money and a fresh start in music. He was only prepared to throw into another band if he were calling the shots. Kooper had visualized it would have a horn section that would be as out front as Kooper s keyboards or Katz z guitar. Colomby brought in alto saxman Fred Libsius(born November 19, 1944, New York, NY), a longtime personal idol, and from there lineup grew, with Randy Brecker(born November 27, 1945, Philadelphia, PA) and Jerry Weiss(born May 1, 1946, New York, NY) joining on trumpets and ... In the early days, this musical coverage was provided by an in house musician; then it later evolved into entire orchestras. In both accompaniments, the musician or musicians would be provided with cue sheets that served as a story map or guide to played along with the filmwhile it was being shown. In almost all instances, the music consisted of recognizable pieces by famous composers. During the scene we see Will at the Weis party, the minute men come to question him about the wealththat Will has just received. During the scene, we see inequality across the zones of Dayton and New Greenwich. The director uses a range of camera techniques to show Will getting interrogated to create suspense and a clear power struggle. We see a long shot of Will Salas when he is getting questioned by the timekeeper Raymond Leon. Will is now suddenly trapped and is forced to be seated into a substantial plush chair. The setting is green painted room with gold incorporated into the decor. The long shot then transitions into a high angle shot. Through the shot, we can see guards positioned on either side of Will. This emphasizes that Will has been ambushed and is overpowered and that they are watching every move that Will makes. We also learn within the scene that Will is captured and cannot escape the timekeeper as well as the guards. This contrasts back to Dayton where the bars on Will s apartment windows symbolised that he was trapped and was living in a controlled area. An amusement park is not an amusement park if it does not contain a roller coaster. What makes these roller coasters so fun that every amuse parks has one. A lot of people would say it is their extreme high speeds that makes it very exciting. That is a valid answer, but it is the wrong answer. The speed has nothing to do with the excitement. As the rider begins to climb upward the loop, he/she begins to slow down. What we talked about suggests that an increase in height results in a decrease in kinetic energy and speed and a decrease in height results in an increase in kinetic energy and speed. So the rider experiences the greatest speeds at the bottom of the loop. The change in speed as the rider moves through the loop is the second part of acceleration which the riders experiences. A rider who moves through a circular loop with a constant speed, the acceleration is centripetal and towards the center of the circle. In this case of a rider moving through a noncircular loop at non constant speed, the acceleration of the rider has two components. • 9. The Importance Of Ancient Traditions On Modern Culture This class was extremely interesting. Being an older student, I have had the opportunity to live all over the United States from the west coast to the east coast and many places in between, including a year each in Germany and Hawaii. I have been exposed to many different cultures, religions, peoples, lifestyles, and beliefs. But, this sociologyclass has exposed me to new ideas which is what learning is supposed to accomplish. Three things that stood out for me is how ancient traditions are still part of modern cultures, how some traditions within a culturemay be viewed as abusive by other people, and how defining something as deviant is not always the same as time goes by. With the many cultures that are found throughout the world, many spanning thousands of years, it is not unusual to find that old traditions still influence modern culture. One example of this is the practice of Chado or the way of tea which is the ancient art of the Japanese tea ceremony that is still performed to this day in a ceremony that can last for hours (Ancient Rituals of Japan). The Japanese society also still celebrates many other ancient rituals and festivals, such as the Hanami Matsuri, where families gather under the cherry trees and enjoy the beauty as the blossoms fall. Finally, the ancient culture within the country of India, which was the birthplace of Hinduism and Buddhism many centuries ago, still has about 84 percent of the population that are Hindu (Zimmerman). It is usually based on the observations towards the company s business units that it can be classified into four categories based on combinations of market growth and market share relative to the largest competitors that brings the name of growth share . His art moved from paintings, sculptures, and printmakings to decoupage. With the help of assistants, Matisse produced art by arranging colorful pre painted sheets of paper into dynamic compositions. This technique was his major medium in the final decade of his life. Matisse created dynamic compositions using the decoupage method and later introduced text to create his own artist books. One of Matisse s most famous books was Jazz, first issued in 1947. Jazz contained art that featured Matisse s colorful and abstract use of decoupage. Hence the use of natural resources in production is processed carefully and effectively yet, even with cautious dealings accidents occur which result in chaos. Similarly the Montara oil spill in 2009 caused chaos in the Timor Sea and its surrounding population immensely. On 21st August 2009 Australia witnessed one of its worst oil disasters, an oil and gas leak that occurred in the Montara oil field in the Timor Sea. His distillation of love to an animalistic desire can be seen as either the height or death of romanticism. One may argue that such uncontrollable hormonal puppeteering undermines the human element of restraint or a more noble idea of loveas unique companionship. In a sense, Lawrence challenges the notion of separation between and the beasts; he suggests the protestant fueled traditions of courtship are not a sign of human elevation, but a convolution of instinct that is as primal as the lust of thirst. However, Lawrence may also represent the life of romanticism, shaping such animal drive into the current of a more galvanistic construct of romance.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Early conflict, before grandiose confrontations of love, is found when Dr. Fergusson considers the contradictions he feels for the town he works and lives in. Walking through the dreary countryside he muses: It wore him out, but at the same time he had a craving for it. It was a stimulant to him to be in the homes of the working people, moving as it were through the innermost body of their life. His nerves were excited and gratified. He could come so near, into the very lives of the rough, inarticulate, powerfully emotional men and women. He grumbled, he said he hated the hellish hole. But as a matter of fact it excited him, the contact with the rough, strongly feeling people was a stimulant applied direct to his nerves. (237) His love hate relationship stems from two conflicting inner personalities. The first Fergusson is a man of medicine, sophisticated and reasonable. He is repulsed by downtrodden town, seeing it as the antithesis of all that his education represents. The second man is a reaction to the discipline and restraint required to create the first emotional, craving excitement, and attracted to the simplicity and assertiveness of uneducated people. • 17. The Relevance Of The Nascaturus Fiction The purpose of this essay is to discuss the rule and law of the nasciturus fiction, with reference to legal subjectivity. It aims to investigate the relevance of the nascaturus fiction within South African law, and with reference to cited cases, demonstrate the reality of this law within current times. Many meaning exist for the term birth within South African law. South African law is based on Roman Dutch law, and analysing the structure of Roman Dutch law may aid in the interpretation of the nasciturus fiction within South African law. Birth registration was not a lawfully necessary action in ancient Rome, but was rather used to determine proof of birth and age [1]. No damages in terms of law were suffered by people who did not register children at birth, and it did not lead to any disadvantages within law [2]. However, the use of such birth registration proved fruitless as it did not effectively prove a person s age. The term legal subjectivity arises, and this is questionable in terms of the nasciturus fiction. Legal subjectivity, in terms of law, begins at birth, provided that the birth is successful and the baby born. He defensively ascribes an importance to this mix up by noting that such suffusions of swimming colors are not to be disdained by the artist in recollection (263), perhaps arguing that mishaps are sometimes to be expected when creating art. Naturally, humans change around different statuses of people and relationship to themselves. Compared to his attitude with Ophelia, alone Hamlet depressively says to be or not to be: that is the question (Act III.I 67) wondering if being alive is even worth it. Failing to see later change in Hamlet, Davis shows strong evidence that Hamlet is hiding something from the audience. Hamlet not only changes around people, but throughout the the play. We had a full day planned with the possibility of me making a school contact alone. My field supervisor, Stephanie and I were having our usual morning chat when we were approached by foster care worker, Ms. Williams. She wanted me to supervise some parenting time, so she could attend court. I had supervised parenting time before and I will admit it is not the most exciting thing to do. Parenting time can last up to 4 hours requiring you to sit at the room door and monitor the parents interactions with their children. Although it can be quite daunting, I do however understand the importance of this family time. I was immediately put on the spot and I really wanted to say no to supervising this time for her. I also did not wantto be uncooperative or not a team player in the presence of my field supervisor. Field Instructors Response Stephanie picked up that I really did not want to do it because she knows how much I enjoy going out in the field. She asked me to do her this favor and help Ms. Williams out and I did. Stephanie asked me how the supervising time went and thanked me for helping out in a time of need . • 24. Stereotype A Thought By Beverly Daniel Tatum Stereotype a Thought Today, many believe that stereotypes have been eradicated throughout our modern world, this is far from the truth. Beverly Daniel Tatum, an author of several books including Why Are Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria asks, How did academic achievement become defined as exclusively white behavior? Tatum has an interesting point, however stereotyping is not just about race it can be about gender bias, or body issues too. Ann DuCille, author of From Multicultural Barbie and the Merchandising of Difference says; Barbie s body is a consumer object itself a vehicle for display of clothing and spectacular trappings of a wealthy teenage fantasy life . Ducille gives a good example of body politics, and the importance of not only focusing on race. Thus, is a good example of how stereotypes are learned by how one is treated in schoolor at home. Education about racial identity, gender equality, and body shaming, to an extent, will help eliminate some forms of stereotyping and create a more understanding and equal society. Therefore schools are not the problem, stereotypes, however racist, sexist, or just plain mean, are learned at home and in schools from peers, parents and teachers alike. In a way, stereotypes will never truly be eliminated from our world because from the day we are born we notice differences. One may argue that it is just a distinction between people, which constitutes stereotyping. Just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shelley presents these themes through characters, and the actions and emotions experienced in particular situations. The theme of creation that is used in Frankenstein, comes from the main character of Victor Frankenstein, who wants to successfully create a human life form. In order to examine this relationship, substance abuse and addiction need to be understood on its own first. Drug addictions contuse to persist on both a national and global level; it is also significant to mention that such issues create a heavy burden on government and justice systems that deal with them. In fact, 9% of Americans meet the diagnostic criteria for a substance abuse disorder (6% for alcohol and 3% for illicit drugs), making it one of the most common chronic diseases in the United States (Compton Change 2017). Such prevalence adds pressure to government systems and taxpayers as they are, estimated to cost Americans more than $400 billion annually: $224 billion for alcohol ($25 billion in health care) and $193 billion for illicit drugs ($11 billion in health care) (Compton and Chang 2017). Now, substance abuse or addiction are considered, psychiatric illnesses with specific indicators [which include] a strong desire to use (or craving), and [interruption of] life activities [which are] generally reduced to drug seeking, drug using, and recovering from the effects of use (Compton Chang 2017) When an individual tries an addictive substance like nicotine, alcohol, or other illicit drugs, it activates certain parts of the brain which can induce, pleasurable feelings and, very strong memories that drive subsequent behaviors to repeat the rewarding experience (Compton Change 2017). If such a drive continues to persist it can transition into a habit and create a dependency on that substance. Now, likewise to treatments to depression, those who suffer from substance abuse disorders also have a variety of treatment options. Theories of adoption have often been used to explain how consumers form preferences for various goods and services. Brand awareness is the ability for a customer to recognize or recall that a brand is a member of a certain product category (Aaker, 2011). Brand awareness is a fundamental attribute of customer brand equity. It tends to be an underestimated component of brand equity (Tong Hawley, 2009). Brand awareness includes two elements which are brand recall and brand recognition. According to Aaker (1996) there is a positive relationship between trust, value and brand equity. Trust is the faith put into a brand with regard to its quality, consistency, etc. Value is created by providing a solution to consumers needs and wants in a way that the cost to the consumer is fair considering the benefits gained (Aaker, ... • 44. Summary Of The Bitter Pill The Bitter Pill: Why medical bills are killing us written by Steven Brill delves into the question as to why medical bills are so high. As Brill begins his research he analyzed bills from hospitals, doctors, and drug companies. Additionally, he interviewed doctors, Medicare and insurance administrators, and gathered patient stories across the nation. He found that the United Statesspent more money on healthcare than any other developed countries, he stated We may be shocked at the $60 billion price tag for cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy, [however], we spent almost that much last week on healthcare (Brill 2013). He also noted yet in every measurable way, the results our healthcare system produces are no better and often worse than the outcomes in those countries (Brill 2013). From the charts and graphs that Brill provided shows that the sixty percent of personal bankruptcy filings per year are related to medical bills. Life expectancy in the United States is the lowest amongst the countries that spend most on healthcare, our infant mortality rank is fiftieth in the world, and that one pill cost as much as seven pills in other developed countries such as France. Brill found that in many similar cases, like that ones he presented in the article, Medicare would have at least paid for a small portion of the bill. However, those who don t qualify for Medicaid and don t have insurance are often asked to pay excessive prices. Strengths Although the United States is said to offer poor health services among other developed countries, it still has some internal features that makes the system thrive over most healthcare system. One of the major strength in the healthcare system is the breakthrough of technology advances. Some technologies may improve the efficiency of care delivery by reducing procedure time, length of stay, or number of hospitalizations, thereby increasing the capacity of the hospital to treat additional patients (Sorenson et al 2013). In which, also favors many patients whom wished to receive their test results sooner or on the estimated arrival date. Another strength is that the medical research systems are some of the best in the world. Institutions such as the Mayo Clinic, Harvard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The, Peace, Night, Day, Love, Hate Introduction Binaries are embedded within every facet of our perceptions. War, peace, night, day, love, hate; we are inclined to believe that every subject, idea, and thing has a polarizing companion. While this paradigm may be beneficial in understanding the distinction and differences between these pairs, it fails to entertain an idea even more compelling; that these polar opposites may not in fact be that different from one another, and the bold notion that these dichotomies might not be as real as we presume. Art and physics have been traditionally painted as polar opposites; neither resembling the other even remotely. One is rational, objective, and logical, while the other is interpretive, subjective, and, at times, seemingly illogical. While these superficial characteristics make a persuasive argument for an antagonistic relationship between these subjects, it fails to acknowledge their overarching commonality. Both disciplines have rich and prolific histories, saturated with radical ideas, incredible individuals, and ground breaking discoveries and progressions. These rich histories have provided the necessary foundation for the modern interpretations of these subjects and all the wonderful innovations and understandings this modernity has entailed. While many factors, movements, and people are responsible for this progression, two such movements in particular have caused radical paradigm shifts in their respective disciplines. Impressionism and Albert Einstein s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
