Dental School Application Essay
Being the youngest to my elder siblings who have become practitioners in the different branches
of Medicine, as a child, I thought my little world still needs a dentist. It was a childish way of
looking into the future, yet, it opened my interest to know more about dentistry at a young age.
The more I got familiar with the job of a dentist, the more I became fascinated with the inherent
mix of knowledge, art and skills involved. I found myself identifying with it very much. A child s
vision turned into a life goal and with hard work, culminated finally in joining the school of
dentistryin Cairo University in 1990.
I am a Palestinian national who was born in Syria and lived in many countries where my father s
work had him assigned. In an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To find a good training institute for ACS however, was a big hurdle.
My decision to return to school to earn my dental degree in Canada stems from my determination
that I have specific training needs that are best gained within the confines of a formal graduate
educational program conforming to Canadian standards. Having the experience as an educator
myself for several years I know how a good educator and strong educational program can transform
people and precisely address their needs.
During my career and life I have met a lot of challenges and I have always risen to the occasion. I
understand that some candidates might have higher test scores than me, yet I am confident that an
experienced and resolute person who appreciates the opportunity and is willing to go the extra mile
in benefiting from a strong educational program like IDDP Is an important evaluation criterion in
your assessment for acceptance. Ultimately I can, if accepted, turn the program efforts into a
graduate that the university can be proud of and I can be the dentist that I need to

Mr. Van Gogh s Starry Night
Desmond Tutu says, Hope is being able to see there is light despite all of the darkness. HOPE.
That is the first word that entered my mind when I saw Starry night painted by Mr. Van Gogh.
Even Mr. Van Gogh mostly used dark colors to his art, the sky which dominated a lot of space in
the canvas brings peacefulness in the painting. The dim light coming from the houses in the
village and the church standing in the middle of it added to the peaceful glow of the painting.
The painting reminds me of how long time ago, people accustomed to sleep and live like that. So
simple yet full of peace. The peacefulness that is difficult to seek by now. In the midst of our
circumstances in life and the way we live right now. Why hope? Because of the outstanding

The Integrated Model Of Choking In Sport
Choking
Choking in sport can be defined as the decline in optimal sporting performance under stressful
situations (Hill, Hanton, Matthews, Fleming, 2010) often due to high levels of pressure placed
upon athletes which leads to a subsequent decline in performance (Baumeister Showers, 1986). It is
a result of a range of different internal and external factors placed upon the athlete (Baumeister
Showers, 1986) these factors most commonly including distractions, both state and trait anxiety, self
confidence issues (J. Wang, Marchant, Morris, Gibbs, 2004) (Hill Shaw, 2013) that lead athletes to
choke creating drop in optimal performance (Hill et al., 2010). The Integrated Model of Choking in

Mesagno Mullane Grant studied the effects of pre performance routines on 60 elite soccer players,
their performance was looked at under both high and low pressure with some of the athletes being
provided with pre performance routines, measuring levels of state anxiety (Mesagno Mullane Grant,
2010). The pre performance routine consisted of cue words, deep breathing, temporal consistency
and extensive pre performance routines that consisted of finding optimal arousal levels, behavioural
steps and focusing on eternal zones of scoring (Mesagno Mullane Grant, 2010). Extensive pre
performance routines were the most successful form of intervention in Mesagno Mullane Grant s
study in reducing the choking in performance and decreasing the athletes levels of state anxiety
(Mesagno Mullane Grant, 2010). This strategy is similarly seen in Wang, Callahan Goldfine s study
looking at psychological interventions (Jin Wang, Callahan, Goldfine, 2003). In which they
suggested the use of psychological approaches including mental imagery, attentional training, self
talk in order to prevent choking in athletes, by decreasing distractions and anxiety levels (Jin Wang

The Movie The Rain Maker s Bad Faith Suite Against...
There is a scene in the legal thriller, The Rain Maker where the young newly minted lawyer Rudy
Bailor (Matt Damon) is squared off in the judge s chambers with big time corporate lawyer Leo F.
Drummond (Jon Voight) and a cranky coughing judge Harvey Hale (Dean Stockwell) to discuss the
pre trial merits of Rudy s Bad Faith suite against health insurance giant Great Benefit. The coughing
grouchy judge(who later dies of a heart attack) sneers across his desk at the young Rudy Bailor
and wheezes: This lawsuit bothers me Mr. Bailor! I wouldn t use the word frivolous, but...I m not
impressed with the merits of it to be frank. In fact, (cough) I m really TIRED of these kinds of
lawsuits. I m inclined to grant the motion to dismiss. Now...you can re file it in Federal court, you
know...take it somewhere else (cough), I don t want it clogging up my docket!!!
This scene has always impressed upon me the reluctance and recalcitrance of well established
judges refusing to not only embrace difficult cases to the fullest of their ability and potential, but
who also willfully and knowingly avoid cases that stand to challenge established legal precedent, or
stare decisis, in the pursuit of justice.
With this point in mind, in evaluating many of the legal cases we have reviewed throughout our
course, the one aspect of law that particularly intrigues me, and is most glaring with respect to the
cause of justice, is what appears to be many instances of the courts finding ways to avoid or

Final Essay, Intro to Film Eng 225
An Analysis of the film Gone With the Wind Catherine M. Piraino ENG 225 INRO TO FILM
Instructor Pal December 17, 2012 An Analysis of the film Gone with the Wind Rarely has a film
impacted an audience and held the test of time as the film Gone with the Wind. I have always
been curious if director, Victor Fleming and producer, David O. Selznick and screenplay writer,
Sidney Howard knew what they were creating a masterpiece and how this film would have such
an enormous impact on audiences for years to come. Interestingly enough there were some who
thought the film should not be made, as Irving Thalberg said to Louis B. Meyer in 1936, Forget it
Louis, no Civil War picture ever made a nickel (Ten Films that Shook the World).

The equipment was very cumbersome and color consultants were necessary to ensure accurate
tones and hues as directed by Selznick. (Dunagan, 2001). Selznick was very innovative with the
use of shadows and silhouettes, which he uses in several scenes of the film. Selznick s use of
silhouettes in both the opening scene and the scene prior to intermission are very dramatic as they
arouse emotion on the part of the audience. However, the emotions they evoked are very different.
In the opening scene, the silhouette of Scarlett and her father, Gerald the audience can feel the
love that Gerald has for his daughter as he illuminates his love for the land and how she will
understand as she get older. The audience can almost feel the picturesque beauty of the land before
them, as the sun is setting and Scarlett and Gerald in silhouettes. The second scene where Selznick
uses silhouettes is directly prior to the intermission of the film. However, the emotions here are far
different. Scarlett has journeyed to Tara, from the recently Yankee occupied Atlanta, with Melanie
and her newborn son and Prissy. She has encountered nothing but death and destruction on her
voyage. War beaten Scarlett returns to her home Tara only to find her home, ravaged, her sisters
ailing, her mother dead, her father mad and the plantation lacking food since Tara was used as

With Reference to Bp Plc’s (British Petroleum’s)...
Globalisation is supposed to make national cultures and institutions more homogenous. With
reference to BP plc s (British Petroleum s) strategies analyse the possibility that it is old fashioned
to consider the influence of the firm s home country s institutions and culture.
Introduction
In this assignment I will attempt to explore the concept that despite the spread and influence of the
globalization of business and industries on our world s economies and cultures, a large
multinational firm is still influenced in a fundamental way by its home country s institutions and
culture. I will illustrate this discussion with an analysis of the strategies employed by the
multinational energy company BP plc (formally British Petroleum). ... Show more content on

We can observe that British cultural dimensions reflect low power distance tolerance, high
individuality, high masculinity, low tolerance to uncertainty and a short termorientation.
BP plc. (British Petroleum)
When considering which international firm to use as a case study I was curious to apply this
discussion to an industry and firm which is a product of the greatest possible degree of
globalisation. In a world society with a hydrocarbon economy I find it hard to conceive of an
industry more global than that of energy production and thus a multinational oil company.
BP plc, unsurprisingly, is a British company. It was founded in 1908 and owes its early prosperity
to exploitation of Iranian (formally Persian) oilfields, where it continued to operate until the
revolution in Iran in 1979. Although having lost access to the Iranian oilfields, BP plc had
expanded operations to the North Sea and Alaska during the 1960s and 1970s. During the 1980s
the British government sold off its holdings in the company under the privatization drive. At the
end of the decade the company underwent severe corporate restructuring and downsizing. In the
1990s BP plc undertook several corporate acquisitions which resulted in BP becoming the second
largest oil company at that time. Moving forward to the present day, according to the Forbes
Global 2000

Gender Bias In Nursing
What comes to your mind when you think of a nurse? Usually the image of a women in scrubs
with a stethoscope around her neck is what comes to mind. Although we may not do this on
purpose, it is quite normal for us to see only women unfortunately. When attending hospitals or
clinics, I am often assisted by a female nurse and usually a male physician. Genderbias has largely
been present within the medical field, especially when discussing nurses, physicians, or simply even
medical school students.
This article reached out to me as very interesting and pointed out some factors that I did not
realize prior to reading the article. Discrimination based on your gender should be nothing held
against us in the eyes of the medical field. Looking back into time, the association of women in
nursing began in the mid 1800 s. Many of our elders have been raised associating nursing as a
feminine occupation, and they have passed this belief onto their offspring. This belief has been
passed down through several generations, but as time is passing, gender roles are becoming less
common, and we need to translate this into nursing. When talking about gender equality, most of
the time we think of women fighting for the opportunities that are provided to men. This situation is
almost completely reversed. Men are now the minority fighting to have the same opportunities as
women in the nursing field. We need to stop thinking of nursing as a feminine occupation, but as an
occupation for all

Catcher In The Ryethyllysine
Fasting glucose may fail to explain the positive relationship between HbA1c and CVD and
mortality (Selvin et al.,2010).Correction for classical risk factors (including smoking,
dyslipidaemia, inflammation) explain the relationship better (van t Riet et al., 2012), suggesting
that a shared mechanism may drive the increase in HbA1c levels. In the glycation pathway,
oxidative stress can increase glycation in two ways, by promoting glucoseaut oxidation or by
fructosamine oxidation leading to increased AGEs production (mainly CML). The first mechanism,
the Wolff pathway, suggests that in the presence of oxidative stress, especially transition metal ions,
glucose can get autoxidised and produce a oxoaldehydes (like methylglyoxal). The oxoaldehyde...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second pathway is not completely independent from the first,as in this, the Amadori product
(fructosamine) reacts with oxidative agents, like hydroxyl radicals, and undergoes modifications
that lead to the formation of carboxymethyllysine (CML), one of the main AGEs (Ahmed et al.,
1986, Booth et al., 1997, Thorpe and Baynes, 2003). The hydroxyl radicals can be produced either
by transition metal catalysed oxidation or by glucose autoxidation (Hunt and Wolff, 1991). This
close interaction between glycation and oxidation leads to the development of the term
glycoxidation, which describes the fact that AGEs are produced mostly from the interaction of
these two processes (Baynes, 1991). Although indications and potential mechanisms are in place to
suggest an active involvement of oxidative stress in protein glycation in normoglycaemia and
hence the increase in the risk of chronic diseses, so far little evidence is available to support such a
hypothesis.
MECHANISM OF AGES
AGEs mediate their tissue effects through three main mechanisms: (1) Cross linking extracellular
(matrix) proteins thereby affecting tissue mechanical properties (Zieman et al., 2004) (2) Cross
linking intracellular proteins thus altering their physiological functions(Bidasee et al., 2004) and
(3) binding to their cell surface receptor rage to inducing multiple intracellular signalling cascade

Arranged Marriages Between Rochel And Nasira
Arranged is a beautiful presentation, of the everyday life of women in devoted religions, and
really portrays in the way they find choice in their religious devotion. So, while having the
freedom to write about whatever we wish upon while watching this film, I decided to base my
essay on the cultural relationship of arranged marriages between Rochel and Nasira; just two
women and their friendship.
Rochel who is an Orthodox Jew, and Nasira who is a Syrian descent Muslim, are both public
school teachers at a multi cultural school located in Brooklyn, New York. Both of the women begin
to realize that they have more in common with each other than they think. Rochel and Nasira are
going through an arranged marriage processes, in which they are both feeling religious and cultural
pressures from their families. Both women are presented with many choices for potential husbands;
however, ultimately, they choose whom they want to marry, as in any other marriage. Arranged
marriages should never be forced or pressured. On the other hand, one shouldn t criticize arranged
marriages as long as the people who are in them are okay with them. ... Show more content on

I find the structure of each of the families that we are shown are very similar. I am glad I have the
freedom to choose my own spouse, I think a good marriage results more from the moral and loving
attitudes and actions exhibited within the marriage itself than from any factors existing at the time
two people meet and agree to marry. Two people who have a lot in common and good chemistry
can end up in a horrible marriage if one or both of them choose during the marriage to adopt
attitudes/actions/desires inconsistent with a good marital relationship, and two strangers who start
out with almost nothing in common can, over time, build a strong, loving relationship if they are
both committed to doing

De Aeternitate Mundi By St. Thomas Aquinas
In De Aeternitate Mundi, St. Thomas Aquinas postulates whether the world could have always
existed and whether God could have caused the world to begin existing. Initially, St. Thomas
Aquinas posits that if either an eternal or temporal world is possible, then it is impossible to
conclude that the world is definitely eternal or created in time without divine revelation. Basically,
Aquinas is saying that both worlds are possible.
The eternity of the world argument is this if it be impossible that something caused by God has
always existed, it will be so either because God could not make something that has always existed
or because such a thing could not be made, regardless of God s ability to make it. Basically, if the
world could not have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since nothingness is followed by existence in time, then there existed an instance when existence
was nothing. Thus, there was a certain time that the world did not exist. In contrast, Aquinas states
Rather it suffices that non being be prior to being by nature. Now, whatever naturally pertains to
something in itself is prior to what that thing only receives from another. Essentially, Aquinas is
positing that if an order is affirmed it is due to nature and not time. To say that X is made from
nothing means that it is not made from anything. Further, Aquinas states, A creature does not have
being, however, except from another, for, considered in itself, every creature is nothing, and thus,
with respect to the creature, non being is prior to being by nature. Essentially, Aquinas postulates
that non being precedes being by nature because something needs to be caused by something else.
Further, Aquinas asserts, the nature of the creature is such that, if the creature were left to itself, it
would be nothing. Aquinas is saying that if something in itself is considered you can consider it
nothing because it cannot cause itself. Additionally, Aquinas uses the example of the sun
illuminating an object, the air, demonstrating that the

What Is An Unforgettable Experience
An Unforgettable Experience in the Lion City A mind that is stretched by a new experience can
never go back to its old dimensions. These words by Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. perfectly
describe how my travel experience in Singapore this past summer has changed my life. Traveling
to Singapore, or the Lion City, with my family has been a component on my bucket list that I
never thought I would ever be able to accomplish at such a young age. Through my travel, I had
the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture by living life as a local while visiting the
major tourist spots that the country had to offer. I also had firsthand experience with the
Singaporean lifestyle and I was so amazed by the beauty of the country. Because of this, my
travel to Singapore has given me an open minded perspective on countries and has broadened my
horizons in terms of travelling to new places. On July 31st, 2017, my trip commenced with a
four hour flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at seven o clock in the morning. Despite having
woken up just a few hours after midnight and running very low on sleep, I felt ecstatic that I
finally had an opportunity to visit such a multicultural country. As the airplane began to ascend, I
leaned back into the stiff seat and gripped on the armrest because although I have flown a couple
of times in the past, I always seemed to get nauseous and apprehensive whenever the plane took off.
However, my nausea soon subsided when the airplane levelled out and the

two character traits of the protagonist. Those traits are immaturity and rebellion, along with the trait
of introspection on the part of the narrator. Accordingly the protagonist s lack of maturity is shown

The protagonist holds to his immature beliefs that by looking, acting and maintaining a false
façade as a dangerous character (Boyle,114) it would bestow on him an the badness he desires.
Additionally we see his rebelliousness, targeted at what he views as a life that is normal and
boring. He rebels by dressing in punk style clothes, paid for by his parents.he read s book s by
author such as AndrГ© Gide (Boyle, 115) who was noted for works that explored conflict and
rebellion. His behaviors and those of his friends are used to set themself s outside of society , to
be perceived as rebels .With their use of drugs ,drinking, cruising all night long and gliding off to

parents. By being expert in the social graces (Boyle, 115) they are slick and quick (Boyle, 115) in
an rebellious stand against what their parents want for them Thus the narrator of the story, as an
older and more mature man, tells the story as an introspective look back at his misadventures. The
protagonist begins to gain some insight into his possible future while in the primordial ooze

Inspector Calls Themes
In the play An Inspector Calls , Priestley included 2 main themes: the general contrast and
responsibility. The first theme: general contrast was perhaps the most applied throughout the play,
such as in: the young age vs. the old age, the upper class vs. the lower class, the reality vs. the
predictions of the characters, in addition to socialism vs. capitalism. The young characters: Sheila
and Eric sympathized passionately with Eva unlike the elders: Gerald, Mr. and Ms. Birling. At an
unpredictable move, the young ones turned out to be matured enough to realize their guilt, to the
extent of them arguing and shouting at their own narrow minded parents. The elders their parents
in specific, believed that their social status deflected them... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The second contrast lies between the upper and lower class. Priestley differentiated Eva Smith
from Daisy Renton; for each symbolizes a different social status Eva represented the struggling
workers while Daisy represented the pregnant prostitutes. Synecdoche was used in Edna, the
maid and Eva Smith to signify the working class, and the lowest class using Daisy Renton and
her unborn baby John. Mrs. Birling kept lowering the importance of girls in lower classes by
saying Girls from that class to indicate that she remained entirely untouched by Eva s death, to
extent of her ignoring and underestimating how desperate she was for love, money and
assistance. The other contrast content was rather ironic; it s regarding Mr. Birling s judgments.
Priestly used allusion to refer to the World War 2 and to the Titanic s famous sinking; in which he
denied that both would happen; I m talking as a hard headed man of practical man of business ...I
say there isn t a chance of war referring to World War 2 that actually happened and regarding the
Titanic unsinkable, absolutely unsinkable that also sank. This emphasizes what a narrow minded,
pompous snub Mr. Birling was. The final contrast could be presented between socialism and
capitalism. Mr. Birling

Comparing Two Creation Stories
In the book of Genesis, we are introduced to everything. From the creation stories to the sagas in
between Genesis is an opening to the old testament and an opening to the book of exodus. This
essay will contrast each creation story and describe each stories interest, explain how Genesis 12: 1
3 links the stories of 2: 4b 11 with the ancestral narratives in 12 50 and connect the sagas of
Abraham/Sarah, Isaac/ Rebecca and Jacob/ Racheal. The first creation story is found in Genesis 1
2:4 and it explains how God created the world from a void of darkness in six days of work. On day
one God made the heavens. On day two God made the sky. On day three God made land and sea.

In the second creation story Gods interest was to find man a partner stating It is not good that the
man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner (Genesis 2:18). God attempted to
bring every animal in creation to the man in hopes that they would fit as a good partner but they
did not. The LORD than decided to make a creature for man to partner with stating then he took
one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from
the man he made into a woman (Genesis 2:21 22) Thus making man a fitting partner. The calling
of Abraham in 12:1 3 is shown as a bridge to link 2:4b 11 and the ancestral narrative of 12 50
because it explains the human problem and the divine solution. In Genesis 2:4b 11 God noticed
that as mankind began to reproduce they became more and more wicked because of their
selfishness and arrogance (Human Problem). God decided to wipe them out and start fresh
stating Now the Earth was corrupt in God s sight and the earth was filled with violence . Before
God ended flesh he saved Noah and his family because of their holiness by allowing them to
aboard an ark so that they could multiply the Earth with people of holiness. When Noah s family
was told to be fruitful and multiply, Abraham was born by Noah s grandson Terah. This links to

Health In Ancient Greece
Greece is a continent located in Europe that over 130,647 square kilometer. The language of
Greece is Modern Greek. The capital is Athens which is also the political center of Greece. Greece
also has many customs and traditions throughout their culture. Many of their customs are similar to
that in the USA. In the healthcare environment, it is important to know the different cultures and
the considerations that people have when providing care to a patient. Knowing the culture
variations will help determine the type of care needed and what types of ailments provide the
most therapeutic response. This allows the nurse to respond to a patient culture and also maintain
the patient s respect and dignity for making decisions. Many of these decisions even involve the

4.What is one of the main challenges when working with this population? Most of the people that
come in for help are very overwhelmed. This makes them flaky, they are late, and/or they miss a
lot of appointments. They also come up with excuses, not sure if this is logistical or if they get

pattern across the board.

Essay about Don John is a Credible Villain
Don John is a Credible Villain
Don John is a believable villain because he is a bastard which means that in Elizabethan times
Don John would have been seen as evil. Don John s legitimate brother on the other hand is wealthy
and well respected by everyone. Don John hates Claudio because Claudio has taken his position as
Don Pedro s right hand man. Don John even acknowledges his own evil and he also shows no
mercy. Don John s character doesn t alter throughout the play, meaning he is only there to cause
trouble.
Don John dislikes Don Pedro because Don John is the illegitimate brother, a bastard child. This

When the men went to war, Claudio proved himself to Don Pedro. Claudio took the position
away from Don John as Don Pedro s right hand man. This much to Don John s displeasure, he
says to Conrade He has all the glories of my overthrow . This means that Claudio is now best
friends with Don Pedro and being called a hero by Don Pedro. A characteristic of a credible
villain is a motive for their evilness, Don John s is he is jealous of Claudio s relationship with his
brother. Don John tries to ruin Claudio s happiness by claming Hero has been unfaithful. Don John
also has henchmen, which is another characteristic of a villain.
Nowadays, it is hard to understand why it is so horrific that Hero isn t a virgin(but she was). But
in those times being a virgin until marriage was a huge thing. Hero would have been cast out of
court and it would have been the end of her life. Although some women would have gone off to
be nuns. Don John, knowing what would happen to her; carries out his plan to ruin Hero s life
anyway in order to hurt Claudio. The fact that Don John shows no mercy , is more evidence that
he is a credible villain. Don John does not let his emotions get the better of him.

Essay about Lewis Carroll s Alice In Wonderland
Lewis Carroll s Alice In Wonderland
So she sat on, with closed eyes, and half believed herself in Wonderland, though she knew she
had but to open them again, and all would change to dull reality . . . (Carroll 119). Wonderland: a
place where everything is different and the imagination is free to roam wild. A place where it
does not matter how big a person is, but the intellect that is in a person. Existing in the dreams of
children everywhere, wonderland is a place of escape, causing a person to think in new, different
ways: a place like no other. Through his novel, Alice s Adventure s in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll
captures and writes about a little girl s adventures through her own dreamland. Upon waking up and
telling her sister ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, her surroundings and its inhabitants are what are different. After following a white rabbit
down a dark, never ending hole, she sees a beautiful garden full of distinguished colored flowers
unlike anything she has ever seen before. With the colors of her imagination, Alice longs to
wander about among those beds of bright flowers and those cool fountains (Carroll 19).
However, upon waking up she comes back to reality with the normalcy of colors and humans.
No more is she surrounded by the impossibilities of a talking chesire cat or the abnormalities of a
crazed tea party in which a door mouse lives in a tea kettle. She is once again back to the reality
where she must act appropriately and do schoolwork. She no longer has the ability to say
whatever comes to mind and argue with whoever says something of which she disagrees. She must
retain her societal role and be cautious and courteous at all times and respect her elders unlike how
she disrespected the Queen of Hearts. Wonderland is a place of the imagination where anything is
possible.
As a person grows older he loses a part of his childhood. One of those parts included is his ability
to dream and imagine enchantments such as wonderland. When Alice told her sister of her dream
of wonderland, it made the sister reflect on her own imagination. She could see herself in
wonderland as the whole place around her became alive with the strange creatures of her little
sister s dreams (Carroll

How to Not Fail at Terraria By A Person To get started, you want to build a house at a

or corruption/crimson, as the boreal wood weapons do more damage than the wood ones. Make
a boreal bow with plenty of arrows before going into the desert. Another handy thing is a desert
biome, because of sand and the ability to completely skip wooden armour, so long as you block

midnight that night, and a 2% chance every night after that. But, a meteor has a 50% chance of
spawning immediately if broken between midnight and 4:30 AM. This means that, for a
plentiful harvest, you may want to break one heart/orb before and one after midnight (I haven t
tested this, but it should work in theory.) This way you can harvest meteorite armour and tools
before fighting the Eye of Cthulhu, ensuring the odds in your favor. After beating the Eye of
Cthulhu, you probably have enough equipment to make better weapons, such as the Blood
Butcherer and Light s Bane (NOTE: the War Axe of the Night costs the same and does more
damage than the Light s Bane, and is an axe), but don t make the yo yo s unless you have
leftover supplies because they do less damage and cost more (but have better range.) If you have a
corruption, then it is possible to farm for Ancient Shadow Scale, although it takes forever to get
one set. If, by any unlucky chance you have a Crimson, getting the materials for gathering hellstone
is going to be difficult. You may want to test your luck fishing in the ocean for the reaver shark

The Mad Scientist Archetype Is Portrayed In The Media
How The Mad Scientist Archetype Is Portrayed In The Media A common stereotype of scientists
in the media is the mad scientist role. This is a chilling figure that appears in many movies and
television shows that feature scientists. They are portrayed as someone who is sinister and
isolated. The book Lab Coats in Hollywood: Science, Scientists, and Cinema by David Kirby
talks about how science is inaccurately shown in the media. He notes, cinematic depictions of
science involve the production and presentation of an image of science, whether or not the
science has anything to do with the real science (Kirby 117). An insane scientist is not actually a
realistic label but adds drama to the media, which is why it is used. The typecast of a scientist
being insane and sheltered may turn many children away from joining a STEM career. Many
scholars have researched this mad scientist stereotype. However, the researchers have not discussed
the children s show Phineas and Ferb. One main character in the show is a crazy scientist, Dr. Heinz
Doofenshmirtz. This popular show has been watched by millions of children and may have
impacted their ideas and turned them away from being a scientist due to the stereotype of
scientists being bizarre and unsociable. Producers in the media create these villain like scientists
for the thrill in movies and television series. Christopher Frayling the author of Mad, Bad, and

King Sundiata Research Paper
One of the most powerful Kings of the Kingdom of Mali in the 1200s was Sundiata Keita. He
was known for many different things throughout history such as taking back the Kingdom of
Mali, where he grew up. He was also known for establishing the city of Niani as the capital of the
empire. These are a couple things Sundiata Keita is known for during his tenure as King. When
Sundiata was a child, Maliwas a very small kingdom at the time. While he was still a child, the
Soso people captured Mali and took control of the empire. Sundiata became a captive member of
the Soso, he lived with the leader of the Soso (see Sundiata Keita of Mali ). When he was seven
years old, Sundiata began to become stronger. He learned how to walk and started exercising
every day. In just a few years, he changed himself into a strong warrior. He was determined to
free Mali from the Sosos and fled into exile. While in exile, Sundiata became famous as a feared
warrior and fighter. After several years, he decided to return to Mali in order to make Mali a
better place. The people of Mali were tired of the high taxes that the Soso rulers asked of them and
wanted to revolt. After 1240, Sundiata led no further quests but consolidated his hold on the states

The Science And History And Development Of The Influenza...
Introduction Influenza vaccines, also known as flu shots, are vaccines that claim to protect against
influenza. The extent to which the influenza vaccine reduces the risk of disease under controlled
conditions is known as the vaccine s efficacy. The testing of vaccine efficacy is quite stringent and
involves Phase I, II, and III trials. Two of which, are double blinded placebo controlled trials.
Influenzaadapts, and mutates such that is never the same from year to year, and therefore
making the double blinded placebo controlled trials very difficult to accomplish before the
vaccine is needed to be released to the public. This causes an ethical predicament in which there
is a trade off between waiting to project which viruses will be prevalent in the upcoming year,
and beginning deciding on the projected viruses earlier in order to conduct the efficacy testing.
In this paper we review the science and history of influenza as well as the science, history and
development of the influenza vaccines. We then discuss the stringent process required by law in
order to test vaccines before they reach the population. We look at the efficacy studies conducted
by the CDC, and conflicting views of geneticists highly involved in vaccine safety. Finally, we
present an overall assessment of the efficacy of the influenza vaccine, and leave to the reader, the
level of efficacy the influenza vaccine has actually achieved.

The Peninsular Oriental Steam Navigation Company
General Information
In 1822, the very first cruise line, known as the Peninsular Oriental Steam Navigation Company,
was founded by Brodie McGhie Willcox and Arthur Anderson, both experienced in the shipping
industry. Its first ship was the 206 ton paddle steamer called the William Fawcett, which was first
deployed in 1835 from London to Spain and Portugal. More recently, in the 1960 s and early 1970
s, three of the world s largest cruise lines were established. The first one, Norwegian Cruise Line,
was introduced when airline travel was becoming increasingly popular. The cruise industry declined
significantly from this competition. The second cruise line, Royal Caribbean International, was also

of the Seas, has the most innovative technology onboard such as skydiving and a 360В° view of
the ocean. Has the cruise industry evolved over the past years?
The cruise industry has definitely evolved over the years to meet the changing demands and
expectations of its passengers. The most important changes in the industry over the years are the
introduction of shore excursions, new cruise routes and changes in the ships themselves. The
first cruise ships offered few to no excursions while all the modern cruise lines offer over 100
excursions per cruise. These excursions can include participating in an actual boat race in
Philipsburg, climbing waterfalls in Ocho Rios and scuba diving which is always very popular
among passengers. They are designed to give the passengers a new and thrilling experience that
they cannot attain at home. In the old days, the only cruise routes available were transatlantic and
small European routes. The transatlantic route became unpopular in the 1960 s as air travel
shortened travelling time from less than 20 hours by air versus four days by cruise. However, with

Motherhood In Chicana Motherhood
Chicana Motherhood:
How Mothers Teach Us the Art of Self love and Influence Our Identity
Introduction
In the beginning, there were mothers. Like goddesses they create life, nurturing their offspring into
adulthood and beyond. Through wisdom, culture, and tradition they educate their young on the
wonders of life, gracing us with the opportunity to follow in their footsteps to become mothers
ourselves. Through the study of Chicana feminism, it becomes apparent how motherhood is a
recurring theme throughout much Chicana feminist art and literature, often discussing how these
women fostered growth in multiple facets of their being through their general life experience.
Perhaps, this is due to the role of a mother weaving the lives of their children, nursing them, guiding
them, and creating a life that implements their own values and beliefs. They have the opportunity to
create a mirror image or even an entirely new and improved version of themselves. Whether the
maternal figure is a hero or villain, traditional or nontraditional, tangible or fictitious, these
characters play a vital role in shaping the Chicana feminism we see today.
However, one of the most interesting concepts is how these mothers contribute to the ways in
which their daughters develop their own identities and individual practices that enable them to
mother themselves. More specifically, how they learn to doctor wounds, process emotions and
thought, and care for themselves in all aspects of life. Therefore,

The Success Of Burton s Snowboards Started Selling From...
Burton s Snowboards began selling from the back of a car. The company s success is shocking
looking at the startup and market that Jake Burton Carpenter entered into. Carpenter had the
goal of becoming rich and found a way to do so through hard work, pride, and a couple pieces of
wood. The snowboards he made in the beginning were poorly designed and did not sell because
he had no interested customers. The industry he was trying to sell in did not yet exist, so he had to
make it. Finally finding the right target market and a place to use his products his snowboards
began to soar in popularity. Carpenter had to fight to have snowboards allowed on the slopes.
Through his determination and early morning snowboardingsessions with his most loyal customers
he was able to breakdown the reluctant resorts and hit their slopes. However, once the public sees
one company do well they decide its time to join the market. Competition began to pop up, as
snowboarding became an international market. Carpenter then had to ensure his spot in the
competitive global market by problem solving quicker than his competitors. Today, his business is
still the best snowboardcompany in the market. The main issue facing his company today is not just
staying on top, but remaining in business. The popularity of the sport rose so quickly and gained
professional status in the nineties, but today the youth are beginning to look towards other

The Expectations On Personality Types
Introduction
Expectations on Personality types a strategic view of relationships at work
1List your gap and why it is important to theory and practice, unaddressed, and advancing (see
Grant Pollock, 2011)
oGAP
Previous research has not yet investigated how different personality types may have different
expectations towards leaders within the workplace. Neither Expectancy theory, Leader Member
Exchange Theory or Metaperceptions have addressed which expectations followers might have
towards leader s personality types. Thus, how differences between followers expectations and
leaders actual personality traits affect job performance is the gap considered by the present work. A
better understanding of these interactions
oIMPORTANT TO THEORY AND PRACTICE
Matta, Scott, Koopman, and Conlon (2015), argue that employee work engagement was higher
when leaders and subordinates agree about the quality of their relationship. Leaders who
acknowledge what are expected from them regarding their way of leading may help them to tailor a
more efficient leadership model and consequently improve performance. Also, Lopez (2013a),
suggests that there is a significant relationship between personality features and leadership style.
Moreover, academic work has highlighted the positive impact of Transformational leadership on
organizational performance. (GarcГa Morales, JimГ©nez Barrionuevo, GutiГ©rrez GutiГ©rrez,

Before Pastor Rick came to Community Baptist Church he had been a campus minister for sixteen
and a half years at the University of Phoenix. Thus leading to his participation in an
Interdenominational Christian Fellowship there on campus that helped train and teach student
leaders to lead other students to fellowship in Jesus Christ. Their goal was to administer
evangelism, discipleship, and ministry while helping lead students to Christ. Eventually, he felt a
calling to come back home to Wyoming to become a pastor. When he came back, he was assigned
to Community Baptist Church to serve as a pastor. He has now been there for twenty years and

The Mysterious Third Murderer In Macbeth
There is ample speculation over the situation of the mysterious third murderer, in Macbeth.
Tremendous arguments based solely on whether the murderer is, in fact, Macbeth himself.
However, it is highly doubtful, that Shakespeare would have made this mystery as straightforward.
Speculators often look past the idea that the murderer could have been someone other than Macbeth
, like his servant. The servant, like Macbeth, would have his reasons to fulfill this deed.
In Act III, Scene i of Macbeth, Macbeth met with two murderers, whom which he hired to kill
Banquo. Macbeth hired these murderers because he cannot assassinate Banquo himself. However
the night of the murder, in scene iii, an additional murderer shows up. When asked who sent him
the third murderer replied Macbeth. Speculators believe the third member was Macbeth himself
because he spotted Banquo and knew his habits well, unlike the other men. They figured Macbeth
sent himself in disguise to make sure the deed would be done. While the murderers were waiting to
execute the deed the third murderer stated in line 14, Almost a mile: but he does usually... (scene
iii). This particular line is one of the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In scene ii when Macbeth was discussing with the murderers, the servant was still in the room.
Which proves he probably knows everything that is to take place. Thus leading to the other
argument of how he could find Banquo so quickly, in the dark. First off, Banquo and Macbeth
were best friends so he is bound to know the looks of Banquo, even in the dark. Secondly, the
servant is clearly aware of Banquo s habits. His reason for contribution in the murder could have
been one of loyalty to Macbeth. The servant clearly saw Macbeth s psychological insecurity and
could have done it to make sure the deed would be executed fully. It would have been possible for
the servant to leave because Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, Macbeth s wife, were attending a

Mental Health Act Analysis
The first piece of legislation which supported individual with mental health was the Mad House
Act (1774). This piece of legislation was ineffective as it resulted in negative outcomes for
individuals with mental and physical disabilities, as they were treated in an undignified way in
cramped and unsubstantial conditions being viewed by the public for a penny. However, the
Lunacy Act (1845 1930) was a more positive outcome, making it a legal requirement for county
owned asylum to be inspected and had to have licenses for best practice and to promote the rights
of the patients within and outside the facility, although, this was not the case in some facilities
where failure and low morale caused negative impacts to the patients treatments (Lester, 2010).
Furthermore, in the 1900 s the Mental Deficiency Health Act came into implementation in (1913
1938) where children and vulnerable adults would have been placed institutional settings, until the
amendment to the Mental Health Act (1959). This act abolished the categories of legal distinction
of mental health and prevented those who did not need to go for example, a mother who is unwed
and had repeated amount of children as they were seen to be defective (Pilgrim, D, 2014). The
NHS (1946) was introduced to create an improvement with society s mental and physical health, by

Guest Speaker George Hoad Draft 2 George is President of Gardens of Australia; he has a
passion for gardens and gardening, the theatre, music, antiques, collectables, travel and

Chiswick House; this is a William Kemp designed garden. Syon House, the London home of the
Dukes of Northumberland; the house was stunning inside. The conservatory is one of the best
preserved in the UK. Glorious landscapes designed by Capability Brown, this year we celebrate
300 years since his birth. Beautiful scenes showing hundreds of daffodils, magnolias, camellias,
rhododendrons and azaleas. There is such a huge variety of daffodils which we never see here,

The next visit was to the home of Count Calheiro, incredible views with the gardens and vineyard
in the foreground. George assured us he climbed the 600 penitent steps to the SantuГЎrio Bom

by this family. The garden has lots of colour; one of the many features is a lovely lake complete
with white swans. Many follies like the goat house, the duck house and a tea room. Most of the
gardens have peacocks. They paid a visit to the home of Gertrude Jekyll, for George s group this
this was like a pilgrimage as they were all very keen garden lovers. She is responsible for what
we now call a cottage garden. Next on the list was the magnificent Nymans Garden, George
called it a cottage garden on steroids, this is top of the list of gardens to visit in the UK. We saw
Gravetye Manor, this is now a very exclusive hotel and the garden has been transformed. On to
Wisely garden on the outskirts of London and then to magnificent Sissinghurst Castle, the third
most visited garden in England. The roses which clad the castle were in bloom and the aquilegias
were huge. I must mention the spectacular carpets of bluebells in many of these gardens, in some
cases spectacular drifts to the water s edge. Many of these gardens have the very colourful peacocks

The Roaring Twenties Summary
The Roaring Twenties written by Joshua Zeitz exemplifies the 1920s as a time full of grace, but
not without its hardships. The author states that there was an era of liberation for women, and
many contemporary ideas were introduced. New ideals were being popularized and a different
generation was evolving, even with the disapproval of others. Although it was a glitzy and
glamorous time, the economy was being strained and eventually reached a breaking point. Even
though there was a depression in the beginning and the end of the 1920s, this period was met with
beauty, allure, and fascination.
The rise of female emancipation created a modern look for women. Flappers contributed to the
social aspect of the new democracy. Described as northern, urban, young, and single, these women
loved the nightlife. These girls enjoyed jazz clubs or vaudeville shows. A flapper was generally
characterized by short hair, lots of makeup, and short, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with these state of the art activities came a huge increase in citizens living in cities. For the
first time in America s history, more people were living in cities than on farms and villages.
Inventions like radio, car, and film in the late nineteenth to early twentieth centuries prospered in
the twenties. People had money to spend, and they spent it. Zeitz writes that ...theaters were selling
5 million tickets a week, a sum equal to roughly half the U.S. population! Like film, radio sales
boomed. The annual sales for radios were $852 million, and twelve million households owned them.
Even teenagers were embracing the freedom of the twenties. According to an interview done by
Robert and Helen Lynd, the top reasons for disagreement between high schoolers and their parents
was the number of times they could go out during the school week, the hour they came home, and
their allotted spending

Difference Between Cartoons And Cartoons With Body Language
How cartoons with subtitles and cartoons with body language contribute towards the language?
Cartoons are a very easy way of learning language. Surveys show that a person can learn different
dialects of the same language as well as different languages very easily through cartoons. Cartoons
have core vocabulary, basic grammar, and helpful pictures. Learning a foreign languagehas become
very important in today s world. There are lots of benefits to be reaped via becoming
multilingual, and therefore learning a foreign language should be encouraged specially amongst
children. Learning a foreign language from a very early age is far better because children are
more receptive and they find languages easier to pick up and understand. Simple cartoons such as
Pokemon, Ben 10, Looney tunes and Power puff Girls contribute a lot towards the learning of
language by children.
A new concept of adding subtitles to many cartoons has been introduced which is a big step towards
enhancing learning of language, improvement in language and broadening the understanding of
words correctly by children. Subtitled cartoons are the ones that consist of captions displayed at the
bottom of the animation which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Swat cats are an example of subtitled cartoons, which consist of subtitles below the frame.
Pakistani children who are in the process of learning English language will benefit from the
subtitled cartoons. This is because of the fact that their native language is Urdu, and English serves
as a secondary language. Therefore they will need more assistance in learning a language other than
their mother tongue. Here, subtitles come into play, by defining the dialogues spoken by the
characters. A child can read the subtitle and better understand the happening in the episode.
Cartoons have relatively simpler English which makes it easier for the children to comprehend the

Santiago s Pride
Pride is defined as a feeling of satisfaction derived from one s own achievements. Pride can push
people to prove themselves. Pride can help people when they face new challenges. Pride is a
powerful motivator in people s lives. If one does not have pride, how will one be motivated to keep
going? However, too much pridecan lead to an arrogant attitude. The Greeks referred to this type
of feeling as hubris. Hubris, excessive pride, is often the cause of someone s downfall in
literature. Pride needs to be combined with humility in order for it to be positive in the ideal life.
In The Old Man and the Sea, Santiago is pushed by pride to persevere through his challenges.
Ernest Hemingway illustrates how an old man can have a great sense of pride... Show more content

The boy came back to Santiago with supper given to him by the owner, Martin, and Santiago
replies, I must give him something more than the belly meat then. He is very thoughtful for us
(20). Hemingway thus reveals the Old Man is not too proud to accept help from others. The Old
Man clearly has relatable human qualities to the everyday reader. Although Santiago takes much
pride, he humbles himself when the boy utters, And the best fisherman is you ... Santiago replies,
No. I know others better (23). The author thus demonstrates Santiago is humble about his
abilities. He still acknowledges that there is better fisherman than he is, illustrating he has
control of any potential hubris. After killing the fish, Santiago thinks to himself about the boy;
The boy keeps me alive.... I must not deceive myself too much (106). Hemingway thus
emphasizes Santiago is not too proud to admit he is dependent on the boy. The Old Man knows
he is dependent on the boy and that he would most likely not be alive if it were not for him. He
is clearly not ungrateful. After the sharks destroy the Marlin, Santiago notes, Nothing . . . I went
out too far (120). Hemingway thus implies Santiago views the Marlin as a worthy opponent.
Hemingway also reveals that Santiago is aware that his pride led to his downfall. Santiago knew
he went too far out, but he still made the irrational decision because he wanted to have pride after

  • 2. Dental School Application Essay Being the youngest to my elder siblings who have become practitioners in the different branches of Medicine, as a child, I thought my little world still needs a dentist. It was a childish way of looking into the future, yet, it opened my interest to know more about dentistry at a young age. The more I got familiar with the job of a dentist, the more I became fascinated with the inherent mix of knowledge, art and skills involved. I found myself identifying with it very much. A child s vision turned into a life goal and with hard work, culminated finally in joining the school of dentistryin Cairo University in 1990. My decision to return to school to earn my dental degree in Canada stems from my determination that I have specific training needs that are best gained within the confines of a formal graduate educational program conforming to Canadian standards. Having the experience as an educator myself for several years I know how a good educator and strong educational program can transform people and precisely address their needs. During my career and life I have met a lot of challenges and I have always risen to the occasion. I understand that some candidates might have higher test scores than me, yet I am confident that an experienced and resolute person who appreciates the opportunity and is willing to go the extra mile in benefiting from a strong educational program like IDDP Is an important evaluation criterion in your assessment for acceptance. Ultimately I can, if accepted, turn the program efforts into a graduate that the university can be proud of and I can be the dentist that I need to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That is the first word that entered my mind when I saw Starry night painted by Mr. Van Gogh. Even Mr. Van Gogh mostly used dark colors to his art, the sky which dominated a lot of space in the canvas brings peacefulness in the painting. The dim light coming from the houses in the village and the church standing in the middle of it added to the peaceful glow of the painting. The painting reminds me of how long time ago, people accustomed to sleep and live like that. So simple yet full of peace. The peacefulness that is difficult to seek by now. • 4. The Integrated Model Of Choking In Sport Choking Choking in sport can be defined as the decline in optimal sporting performance under stressful situations (Hill, Hanton, Matthews, Fleming, 2010) often due to high levels of pressure placed upon athletes which leads to a subsequent decline in performance (Baumeister Showers, 1986). It is a result of a range of different internal and external factors placed upon the athlete (Baumeister Showers, 1986) these factors most commonly including distractions, both state and trait anxiety, self confidence issues (J. Wang, Marchant, Morris, Gibbs, 2004) (Hill Shaw, 2013) that lead athletes to choke creating drop in optimal performance (Hill et al., 2010). Mesagno Mullane Grant studied the effects of pre performance routines on 60 elite soccer players, their performance was looked at under both high and low pressure with some of the athletes being provided with pre performance routines, measuring levels of state anxiety (Mesagno Mullane Grant, 2010). The pre performance routine consisted of cue words, deep breathing, temporal consistency and extensive pre performance routines that consisted of finding optimal arousal levels, behavioural steps and focusing on eternal zones of scoring (Mesagno Mullane Grant, 2010). Extensive pre performance routines were the most successful form of intervention in Mesagno Mullane Grant s study in reducing the choking in performance and decreasing the athletes levels of state anxiety (Mesagno Mullane Grant, 2010). This strategy is similarly seen in Wang, Callahan Goldfine s study looking at psychological interventions (Jin Wang, Callahan, Goldfine, 2003). In which they suggested the use of psychological approaches including mental imagery, attentional training, self talk in order to prevent choking in athletes, by decreasing distractions and anxiety levels (Jin Wang et al., ... There is a scene in the legal thriller, The Rain Maker where the young newly minted lawyer Rudy Bailor (Matt Damon) is squared off in the judge s chambers with big time corporate lawyer Leo F. Drummond (Jon Voight) and a cranky coughing judge Harvey Hale (Dean Stockwell) to discuss the pre trial merits of Rudy s Bad Faith suite against health insurance giant Great Benefit. The coughing grouchy judge(who later dies of a heart attack) sneers across his desk at the young Rudy Bailor and wheezes: This lawsuit bothers me Mr. Bailor! I wouldn t use the word frivolous, but...I m not impressed with the merits of it to be frank. In fact, (cough) I m really TIRED of these kinds of lawsuits. I m inclined to grant the motion to dismiss. Now...you can re file it in Federal court, you know...take it somewhere else (cough), I don t want it clogging up my docket!!! This scene has always impressed upon me the reluctance and recalcitrance of well established judges refusing to not only embrace difficult cases to the fullest of their ability and potential, but who also willfully and knowingly avoid cases that stand to challenge established legal precedent, or stare decisis, in the pursuit of justice. With this point in mind, in evaluating many of the legal cases we have reviewed throughout our course, the one aspect of law that particularly intrigues me, and is most glaring with respect to the cause of justice, is what appears to be many instances of the courts finding ways to avoid or ... Piraino ENG 225 INRO TO FILM Instructor Pal December 17, 2012 An Analysis of the film Gone with the Wind Rarely has a film impacted an audience and held the test of time as the film Gone with the Wind. I have always been curious if director, Victor Fleming and producer, David O. Selznick and screenplay writer, Sidney Howard knew what they were creating a masterpiece and how this film would have such an enormous impact on audiences for years to come. Interestingly enough there were some who thought the film should not be made, as Irving Thalberg said to Louis B. The equipment was very cumbersome and color consultants were necessary to ensure accurate tones and hues as directed by Selznick. (Dunagan, 2001). Selznick was very innovative with the use of shadows and silhouettes, which he uses in several scenes of the film. Selznick s use of silhouettes in both the opening scene and the scene prior to intermission are very dramatic as they arouse emotion on the part of the audience. However, the emotions they evoked are very different. In the opening scene, the silhouette of Scarlett and her father, Gerald the audience can feel the love that Gerald has for his daughter as he illuminates his love for the land and how she will understand as she get older. The audience can almost feel the picturesque beauty of the land before them, as the sun is setting and Scarlett and Gerald in silhouettes. The second scene where Selznick uses silhouettes is directly prior to the intermission of the film. However, the emotions here are far different. Scarlett has journeyed to Tara, from the recently Yankee occupied Atlanta, with Melanie and her newborn son and Prissy. She has encountered nothing but death and destruction on her voyage. War beaten Scarlett returns to her home Tara only to find her home, ravaged, her sisters ailing, her mother dead, her father mad and the plantation lacking food since Tara was used as Yankee ... • 7. With Reference to Bp Plc’s (British Petroleum’s)... Globalisation is supposed to make national cultures and institutions more homogenous. With reference to BP plc s (British Petroleum s) strategies analyse the possibility that it is old fashioned to consider the influence of the firm s home country s institutions and culture. Introduction In this assignment I will attempt to explore the concept that despite the spread and influence of the globalization of business and industries on our world s economies and cultures, a large multinational firm is still influenced in a fundamental way by its home country s institutions and culture. I will illustrate this discussion with an analysis of the strategies employed by the multinational energy company BP plc (formally British Petroleum). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We can observe that British cultural dimensions reflect low power distance tolerance, high individuality, high masculinity, low tolerance to uncertainty and a short termorientation. BP plc. (British Petroleum) When considering which international firm to use as a case study I was curious to apply this discussion to an industry and firm which is a product of the greatest possible degree of globalisation. In a world society with a hydrocarbon economy I find it hard to conceive of an industry more global than that of energy production and thus a multinational oil company. BP plc, unsurprisingly, is a British company. It was founded in 1908 and owes its early prosperity to exploitation of Iranian (formally Persian) oilfields, where it continued to operate until the revolution in Iran in 1979. Although having lost access to the Iranian oilfields, BP plc had expanded operations to the North Sea and Alaska during the 1960s and 1970s. During the 1980s the British government sold off its holdings in the company under the privatization drive. At the end of the decade the company underwent severe corporate restructuring and downsizing. In the 1990s BP plc undertook several corporate acquisitions which resulted in BP becoming the second largest oil company at that time. Moving forward to the present day, according to the Forbes Global 2000 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Gender Bias In Nursing What comes to your mind when you think of a nurse? Usually the image of a women in scrubs with a stethoscope around her neck is what comes to mind. Although we may not do this on purpose, it is quite normal for us to see only women unfortunately. When attending hospitals or clinics, I am often assisted by a female nurse and usually a male physician. Genderbias has largely been present within the medical field, especially when discussing nurses, physicians, or simply even medical school students. This article reached out to me as very interesting and pointed out some factors that I did not realize prior to reading the article. Discrimination based on your gender should be nothing held against us in the eyes of the medical field. Looking back into time, the association of women in nursing began in the mid 1800 s. Many of our elders have been raised associating nursing as a feminine occupation, and they have passed this belief onto their offspring. This belief has been passed down through several generations, but as time is passing, gender roles are becoming less common, and we need to translate this into nursing. When talking about gender equality, most of the time we think of women fighting for the opportunities that are provided to men. This situation is almost completely reversed. Men are now the minority fighting to have the same opportunities as women in the nursing field. We need to stop thinking of nursing as a feminine occupation, but as an occupation for all ... • 9. Catcher In The Ryethyllysine Fasting glucose may fail to explain the positive relationship between HbA1c and CVD and mortality (Selvin et al.,2010).Correction for classical risk factors (including smoking, dyslipidaemia, inflammation) explain the relationship better (van t Riet et al., 2012), suggesting that a shared mechanism may drive the increase in HbA1c levels. In the glycation pathway, oxidative stress can increase glycation in two ways, by promoting glucoseaut oxidation or by fructosamine oxidation leading to increased AGEs production (mainly CML). The first mechanism, the Wolff pathway, suggests that in the presence of oxidative stress, especially transition metal ions, glucose can get autoxidised and produce a oxoaldehydes (like methylglyoxal). The oxoaldehyde... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second pathway is not completely independent from the first,as in this, the Amadori product (fructosamine) reacts with oxidative agents, like hydroxyl radicals, and undergoes modifications that lead to the formation of carboxymethyllysine (CML), one of the main AGEs (Ahmed et al., 1986, Booth et al., 1997, Thorpe and Baynes, 2003). The hydroxyl radicals can be produced either by transition metal catalysed oxidation or by glucose autoxidation (Hunt and Wolff, 1991). This close interaction between glycation and oxidation leads to the development of the term glycoxidation, which describes the fact that AGEs are produced mostly from the interaction of these two processes (Baynes, 1991). Although indications and potential mechanisms are in place to suggest an active involvement of oxidative stress in protein glycation in normoglycaemia and hence the increase in the risk of chronic diseses, so far little evidence is available to support such a hypothesis. MECHANISM OF AGES AGEs mediate their tissue effects through three main mechanisms: (1) Cross linking extracellular (matrix) proteins thereby affecting tissue mechanical properties (Zieman et al., 2004) (2) Cross linking intracellular proteins thus altering their physiological functions(Bidasee et al., 2004) and (3) binding to their cell surface receptor rage to inducing multiple intracellular signalling cascade (Neeper et ... Arranged Marriages Between Rochel And Nasira Arranged is a beautiful presentation, of the everyday life of women in devoted religions, and really portrays in the way they find choice in their religious devotion. So, while having the freedom to write about whatever we wish upon while watching this film, I decided to base my essay on the cultural relationship of arranged marriages between Rochel and Nasira; just two women and their friendship. Rochel who is an Orthodox Jew, and Nasira who is a Syrian descent Muslim, are both public school teachers at a multi cultural school located in Brooklyn, New York. Both of the women begin to realize that they have more in common with each other than they think. Rochel and Nasira are going through an arranged marriage processes, in which they are both feeling religious and cultural pressures from their families. Both women are presented with many choices for potential husbands; however, ultimately, they choose whom they want to marry, as in any other marriage. Two people who have a lot in common and good chemistry can end up in a horrible marriage if one or both of them choose during the marriage to adopt attitudes/actions/desires inconsistent with a good marital relationship, and two strangers who start out with almost nothing in common can, over time, build a strong, loving relationship if they are both committed to doing ... • 11. De Aeternitate Mundi By St. Thomas Aquinas In De Aeternitate Mundi, St. Thomas Aquinas postulates whether the world could have always existed and whether God could have caused the world to begin existing. Initially, St. Thomas Aquinas posits that if either an eternal or temporal world is possible, then it is impossible to conclude that the world is definitely eternal or created in time without divine revelation. Basically, Aquinas is saying that both worlds are possible. The eternity of the world argument is this if it be impossible that something caused by God has always existed, it will be so either because God could not make something that has always existed or because such a thing could not be made, regardless of God s ability to make it. Basically, if the world could not have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since nothingness is followed by existence in time, then there existed an instance when existence was nothing. Thus, there was a certain time that the world did not exist. In contrast, Aquinas states Rather it suffices that non being be prior to being by nature. Now, whatever naturally pertains to something in itself is prior to what that thing only receives from another. Essentially, Aquinas is positing that if an order is affirmed it is due to nature and not time. To say that X is made from nothing means that it is not made from anything. Further, Aquinas states, A creature does not have being, however, except from another, for, considered in itself, every creature is nothing, and thus, with respect to the creature, non being is prior to being by nature. Essentially, Aquinas postulates that non being precedes being by nature because something needs to be caused by something else. Further, Aquinas asserts, the nature of the creature is such that, if the creature were left to itself, it would be nothing. Aquinas is saying that if something in itself is considered you can consider it nothing because it cannot cause itself. These words by Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. perfectly describe how my travel experience in Singapore this past summer has changed my life. Traveling to Singapore, or the Lion City, with my family has been a component on my bucket list that I never thought I would ever be able to accomplish at such a young age. Through my travel, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture by living life as a local while visiting the major tourist spots that the country had to offer. I also had firsthand experience with the Singaporean lifestyle and I was so amazed by the beauty of the country. Because of this, my travel to Singapore has given me an open minded perspective on countries and has broadened my horizons in terms of travelling to new places. On July 31st, 2017, my trip commenced with a four hour flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at seven o clock in the morning. Despite having woken up just a few hours after midnight and running very low on sleep, I felt ecstatic that I finally had an opportunity to visit such a multicultural country. As the airplane began to ascend, I leaned back into the stiff seat and gripped on the armrest because although I have flown a couple of times in the past, I always seemed to get nauseous and apprehensive whenever the plane took off. The first theme: general contrast was perhaps the most applied throughout the play, such as in: the young age vs. the old age, the upper class vs. the lower class, the reality vs. the predictions of the characters, in addition to socialism vs. capitalism. The young characters: Sheila and Eric sympathized passionately with Eva unlike the elders: Gerald, Mr. and Ms. Birling. Mrs. Birling kept lowering the importance of girls in lower classes by saying Girls from that class to indicate that she remained entirely untouched by Eva s death, to extent of her ignoring and underestimating how desperate she was for love, money and assistance. The other contrast content was rather ironic; it s regarding Mr. Birling s judgments. Priestly used allusion to refer to the World War 2 and to the Titanic s famous sinking; in which he denied that both would happen; I m talking as a hard headed man of practical man of business ...I say there isn t a chance of war referring to World War 2 that actually happened and regarding the Titanic unsinkable, absolutely unsinkable that also sank. From the creation stories to the sagas in between Genesis is an opening to the old testament and an opening to the book of exodus. This essay will contrast each creation story and describe each stories interest, explain how Genesis 12: 1 3 links the stories of 2: 4b 11 with the ancestral narratives in 12 50 and connect the sagas of Abraham/Sarah, Isaac/ Rebecca and Jacob/ Racheal. The first creation story is found in Genesis 1 2:4 and it explains how God created the world from a void of darkness in six days of work. On day one God made the heavens. On day two God made the sky. On day three God made land and sea. On day four God created time. On day five God made marine creatures. One... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the second creation story Gods interest was to find man a partner stating It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner (Genesis 2:18). God attempted to bring every animal in creation to the man in hopes that they would fit as a good partner but they did not. The LORD than decided to make a creature for man to partner with stating then he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman (Genesis 2:21 22) Thus making man a fitting partner. The calling of Abraham in 12:1 3 is shown as a bridge to link 2:4b 11 and the ancestral narrative of 12 50 because it explains the human problem and the divine solution. In Genesis 2:4b 11 God noticed that as mankind began to reproduce they became more and more wicked because of their selfishness and arrogance (Human Problem). God decided to wipe them out and start fresh stating Now the Earth was corrupt in God s sight and the earth was filled with violence . Before God ended flesh he saved Noah and his family because of their holiness by allowing them to aboard an ark so that they could multiply the Earth with people of holiness. When Noah s family was told to be fruitful and multiply, Abraham was born by Noah s grandson Terah. This links to the ancestral narrative placed in 12 50 because they are consisted of ... Plantar Flexion Full movement neuromuscular electrical stimulation improves plantar flexor spasticity and ankle active dorsiflexion in stroke patients: a randomized controlled study This was an interesting article. It examined the use of electrical stimulation as a treatment for spasticity in the ankle plantar muscles, specifically the tibias posterior, gastrocnemius, and soleus. Electrodes were placed over the extensor digitorum longus muscles and the extensor hallicus muscles of post stroke patients with plantar flexor spasticity. Various intensities were tested. • 25. The Mad Scientist Archetype Is Portrayed In The Media How The Mad Scientist Archetype Is Portrayed In The Media A common stereotype of scientists in the media is the mad scientist role. This is a chilling figure that appears in many movies and television shows that feature scientists. They are portrayed as someone who is sinister and isolated. The book Lab Coats in Hollywood: Science, Scientists, and Cinema by David Kirby talks about how science is inaccurately shown in the media. He notes, cinematic depictions of science involve the production and presentation of an image of science, whether or not the science has anything to do with the real science (Kirby 117). An insane scientist is not actually a realistic label but adds drama to the media, which is why it is used. The typecast of a scientist being insane and sheltered may turn many children away from joining a STEM career. Many scholars have researched this mad scientist stereotype. However, the researchers have not discussed the children s show Phineas and Ferb. One main character in the show is a crazy scientist, Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz. This popular show has been watched by millions of children and may have impacted their ideas and turned them away from being a scientist due to the stereotype of scientists being bizarre and unsociable. The extent to which the influenza vaccine reduces the risk of disease under controlled conditions is known as the vaccine s efficacy. The testing of vaccine efficacy is quite stringent and involves Phase I, II, and III trials. Two of which, are double blinded placebo controlled trials. Influenzaadapts, and mutates such that is never the same from year to year, and therefore making the double blinded placebo controlled trials very difficult to accomplish before the vaccine is needed to be released to the public. This causes an ethical predicament in which there is a trade off between waiting to project which viruses will be prevalent in the upcoming year, and beginning deciding on the projected viruses earlier in order to conduct the efficacy testing. In this paper we review the science and history of influenza as well as the science, history and development of the influenza vaccines. We then discuss the stringent process required by law in order to test vaccines before they reach the population. We look at the efficacy studies conducted by the CDC, and conflicting views of geneticists highly involved in vaccine safety. Finally, we present an overall assessment of the efficacy of the influenza vaccine, and leave to the reader, the level of efficacy the influenza vaccine has actually achieved. What is Influenza? • 36. Motherhood In Chicana Motherhood Chicana Motherhood: How Mothers Teach Us the Art of Self love and Influence Our Identity Introduction In the beginning, there were mothers. Like goddesses they create life, nurturing their offspring into adulthood and beyond. Through wisdom, culture, and tradition they educate their young on the wonders of life, gracing us with the opportunity to follow in their footsteps to become mothers ourselves. Through the study of Chicana feminism, it becomes apparent how motherhood is a recurring theme throughout much Chicana feminist art and literature, often discussing how these women fostered growth in multiple facets of their being through their general life experience. Perhaps, this is due to the role of a mother weaving the lives of their children, nursing them, guiding them, and creating a life that implements their own values and beliefs. They have the opportunity to create a mirror image or even an entirely new and improved version of themselves. Whether the maternal figure is a hero or villain, traditional or nontraditional, tangible or fictitious, these characters play a vital role in shaping the Chicana feminism we see today. However, one of the most interesting concepts is how these mothers contribute to the ways in which their daughters develop their own identities and individual practices that enable them to mother themselves. More specifically, how they learn to doctor wounds, process emotions and thought, and care for themselves in all aspects of life. Therefore, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Success Of Burton s Snowboards Started Selling From... Burton s Snowboards began selling from the back of a car. The company s success is shocking looking at the startup and market that Jake Burton Carpenter entered into. Carpenter had the goal of becoming rich and found a way to do so through hard work, pride, and a couple pieces of wood. The snowboards he made in the beginning were poorly designed and did not sell because he had no interested customers. The industry he was trying to sell in did not yet exist, so he had to make it. Finally finding the right target market and a place to use his products his snowboards began to soar in popularity. Carpenter had to fight to have snowboards allowed on the slopes. Through his determination and early morning snowboardingsessions with his most loyal customers he was able to breakdown the reluctant resorts and hit their slopes. However, once the public sees one company do well they decide its time to join the market. Competition began to pop up, as snowboarding became an international market. Carpenter then had to ensure his spot in the competitive global market by problem solving quicker than his competitors. Today, his business is still the best snowboardcompany in the market. The main issue facing his company today is not just staying on top, but remaining in business. The popularity of the sport rose so quickly and gained professional status in the nineties, but today the youth are beginning to look towards other equipment. • 41. The Mysterious Third Murderer In Macbeth There is ample speculation over the situation of the mysterious third murderer, in Macbeth. Tremendous arguments based solely on whether the murderer is, in fact, Macbeth himself. However, it is highly doubtful, that Shakespeare would have made this mystery as straightforward. Speculators often look past the idea that the murderer could have been someone other than Macbeth , like his servant. The servant, like Macbeth, would have his reasons to fulfill this deed. In Act III, Scene i of Macbeth, Macbeth met with two murderers, whom which he hired to kill Banquo. Macbeth hired these murderers because he cannot assassinate Banquo himself. However the night of the murder, in scene iii, an additional murderer shows up. When asked who sent him the third murderer replied Macbeth. Speculators believe the third member was Macbeth himself because he spotted Banquo and knew his habits well, unlike the other men. They figured Macbeth sent himself in disguise to make sure the deed would be done. While the murderers were waiting to execute the deed the third murderer stated in line 14, Almost a mile: but he does usually... (scene iii). This particular line is one of the main ... His reason for contribution in the murder could have been one of loyalty to Macbeth. • 43. Mental Health Act Analysis The first piece of legislation which supported individual with mental health was the Mad House Act (1774). This piece of legislation was ineffective as it resulted in negative outcomes for individuals with mental and physical disabilities, as they were treated in an undignified way in cramped and unsubstantial conditions being viewed by the public for a penny. However, the Lunacy Act (1845 1930) was a more positive outcome, making it a legal requirement for county owned asylum to be inspected and had to have licenses for best practice and to promote the rights of the patients within and outside the facility, although, this was not the case in some facilities where failure and low morale caused negative impacts to the patients treatments (Lester, 2010). Furthermore, in the 1900 s the Mental Deficiency Health Act came into implementation in (1913 1938) where children and vulnerable adults would have been placed institutional settings, until the amendment to the Mental Health Act (1959).
