2. Definition of A.W.
 In the Ancient World the first important
civilizations appeared: Mesopotamia,
Egypt, Greece and Rome. It started in the
year 3.000 BC with the invention of
writing and ended in the year 476 AD with
the fall of the Roman Empire.

 Mesopotamia: was between the rivers
Tigris and Euphrates. There were
important cities like Babylon. They wrote
the first laws.
 Egypt: was next to the river Nile. Its kings
were called pharaons. They built great
monuments like the piramids.

 Greece: the Greeks were the first people
to have a political systems based on
democracy.
 Culture was very important and their
architecture, sculpture and literature
were very advanced.

 Rome: romans conquered many territories
and created a great Empire, whose capital
was Rome.
 Latin, there lenguage, spread throughout
the Empire. Many European languages are
based on it.
