Papal Zouaves
Papal Zouaves helped defend the church with Pope Pius IX. They were a group of Catholic volunteer
soldiers who served in the papal army. The Papal Zouaves formed in 1860. They started a recruiting
program that recruited people from as far away as Canada. They played a large role in securing our
catholic faith.

Sammy in A and P
In the story A P , John Updike portrays Sammy as an observant young man lacking excitement in
working as a cashier in a small grocery store, the A P. The mundane, dull community in the A P that
surrounds Sammy challenges him to strive for something different. Sammy wants to experience what
lies beyond the A P. This story showcases a young man blooming into maturity, accepting
responsibility and represents the reality of entering adulthood. It was a typical day at the A P. Sammy
was ringing up a purchase of one of those cash register watchers, a witch (Updike 15), she acted like
she never seen a mistake in her life. It was obvious that Sammy had been distracted by the three girls
that came prancing in the store wearing their bathing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sammy s stomach fell, and now he had the feeling of how hard the world would be from here on out.
For the first time, Sammy had a vision of himself. Seeing Lengel in the window made Sammy realize
that he didn t want a dead end monotonous job. He wanted to take risks and chances throughout life.
Spontaneity is something Sammy has been searching for in his inner being. Spontaneity opens a door
of perception to certain aspects in which Sammy has never seen or experienced before. Life is a
chance. Life is about taking risks and challenging what lies beyond your boundaries. If you didn t take
chances, you would never experience right from wrong or learn from your mistakes. In other words,
you would never experience what lies outside of the box you call life. Sammy is experiencing a
transition that will change his life forever. This is what will make Sammy s life hard from here on
out.Sammy is finally confronted with reality. Lengel criticizing and embarrassing the girls for
inappropriate attire made him come to the realization that there will always be rules, policies, and
guidelines that he has to abide by throughout life. No matter where you work, or where you go, there
will always be policies to obey. Life is about being true to yourself, and following how you truly feel
even if there are consequences to follow. Sammy learns a life lesson through the

The Importance Of A Competency For Execution Evaluation
Introduction
An ethical decision is a decision in which a person is conflicted between two moral ideals. The answer
is not clear in these types of situations. The deliverance of punishment in America has always been an
ethical decision, especially when the punishment is death. After a horrific crime is committed, many
complicated proceedings take place, and sometimes these proceedings sometimes lead to the decision
to execute the person responsible. The next steps are complex and often times create moral conflicts
for those who are participating in them. One step that must take place when an accused has been
sentenced to death is a competency exam which is administered by a mental health professional. This
paper will focus on mental health professional s participation to certify someone as death ready prior
to execution and the ethical decisions that mental health professionals face during this time, yet the
ultimate need for their expertise.
Background Information
A competency for execution evaluation is required by law to be performed before the execution of a
person sentenced to death. This exam aims to make sure the accused is death ready, or in other words
are they competent to be executed. To be considered competent to be executed, one must: (a)
understand and appreciate the punishment, (b) understand and appreciate death, and (c) have the
ability to work with the judicial team (Neal, 2010, p. 148). The mental health care professional also
needs to take into

Historical Truth of Gladiator
In the year 2000 Universal Studios released the film Gladiator. This film directed by Ridley Scott is
both a great and terrible depiction of the Roman Empire in its Golden Age. Some of the tiniest details
of this time period have been observed and recreated skillfully, yet some major issues have been
completely altered or tweaked. Right from the opening scene one can view historical inaccuracies.
First, there was no last great battle against the Germanic tribes the day before Marcus Aurelius death.
However, a great battle was fought late in the campaign in 179 C.E., yet Marcus Aurelius did not die
until the year 180 C.E.# This leads to another point of error in this film; Marcus Aurelius was not
murdered by his son Commodus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact since the character Maximus did not exist in true Roman history Commodus life came to an
end in a rather different manner. In 192 C.E. Commodus mistress, Marcia, his Praetorian Prefect, and
his chamberlain all plotted to end his life. So, Marcia prepared for Commodus a poisoned glass of
whine, however the poison was not strong enough and Commodus was only heavily drugged and
survived. Therefore only a few days later the conspirators decided to finish the job by asking one of
Commodus athletic friends, a wrestler named Narcissus, to strangle him in his bath on December 31
of 192. Ironically enough Commodus was to be proclaimed a Consul the following day. The character
Proximo in the movie also claims that Marcus Aurelius had banned the gladiator fights and forced him
to scratch a living in the north African Roman colony of Mirabile Dictu. While Mirabile Dictu is an
actual colony in Mauretania the fact is that Marcus Aurelius actually passed a piece of written
legislature that ensured the continuation of all gladiatorial games even through times of economic
hardship.# From here the major discrepancies end and only the minor ones begin to take form. One of
the most curious differences between the film and history is the use of language. There

The Role Of Technology And Contemporary Urbanism
Intro
Information Age
The emergence of information technologies the past two decades marked the cities shift to what
Castells called the Information Age in his article, Space of flows, Space of places. The pervasive and
increasing influence of these technologies in cities means that the realm of networks and flows
transcends the built environment, altering our understanding of fundamental human experiences and
destabilizing meanings of material systems and structures. Hence it is important to conceptualize the
relationship between technology and contemporary urbanism,

Big data
There is increasing literature focusing on the discussion regarding big data. However, there is yet to be
a consensus regarding its definition. Keller, Koonin and Shipp s Big data and city living what can it do
for us? offers some examples and uses of data seen in the box below :
Kitchin proposes that there are three main sources of big data : directed, automated and volunteered.
He describes direct data as generated by traditional forms of surveillance, automated data as generated
as an inherent, automatic function of the device, application or system and volunteered data as a form
of crowdsourc[ed] data wherein users generate and contribute data to a common system . The hype of
big data is the sheer amount of data that can be collected and processed, which has been touted to
enable optimal performance, predict urban processes and simulate outcomes for future

Individualism In Rocky Iv
Ronald Reagan was the 40th president of America from 1981 to 1989. His arrival brought the promise
of a new dawn in American politics because he came to power in the midst of the Cold War(Richards),
a clash between two titans: the capitalist U.S and the communist U.S.S.R. During the Cold war, the
media became an extremely influential tool, especially in film. It was used as a form of propaganda by
both superpowers. Rocky IV, directed by Sylvester Stallone, is one such film that highlights and
endorses the ideals laid out by the Reagan Administration. These values can be briefly summarized as
the instigation of family values, the concept of rugged individualism, and perhaps more importantly,
the endless debate between communism and capitalism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It is indeed, Reagan s dedication in the pursuit of individuality and self determination, which gets so
adequately illustrated by Rocky Balboa s resilience in Rocky IV. The film shows America that there is

Totalitarian Government In George Orwell s Big Brother Is...
In 1984, Big Brother Is Watching You. One could not take two steps without bumping into a poster of
a stern looking man seeming to stare into the soul of the viewer. Big Brother acts as a Godlike figure
to the citizens of Oceania, a super nation constantly at war with the two super nations. The
government of Oceania, the Party, keeps citizens in a vice like grip through constant surveillance and
laws placed on every aspect of human existence. The only loyalty allowed is to the Party. They control
the past, the present, and the future through its command over anything and everything. The
government set up in 1984 directly reflects that of a totalitarian government. Totalitarianism as it
exists in George Orwell s 1984 exhibits key features which bare striking resemblance to modern
governments. The first feature of a totalitarian government is unification against a dangerous enemy.
The Party in 1984 uses The Two Minutes Hate to give the people something or someone to be mad at.
It is a ritual performed by the members of the Outer Party, as pictures are displayed for the people to
scream and curse at. Its purpose is to strengthen the Party s position. If the people feel a lack of
control over their own lives, they are able to channel that into hate of the evil Emmanuel Goldstein
and East and Eurasia. During one of the rituals, Winston explains that although he had not originally
felt the same anger as the rest of the crowd, he could not help but find himself yelling along with

The Central Nervous System Cns
Impulses are transmitted from one neuron to the next through chemical and electrical conduction.
Presynaptic neurons conduct impulses toward the synapse while postsynaptic neurons conduct away
from the synapse. The electric impulse move from the first neuron, along the axon, to the synapse at
the synaptic knobs. Secretion of chemical transmitter into the synaptic nerve depolarizes the
membrane of the subsequent neuron. In its unexcited state, a neuron retains a resting membrane
potential. When the membrane potential is excited, the arrival of an action potential at the synaptic
knob allows the neurotransmitters released into synaptic cleft to trigger an action potential in the
postsynaptic neuron (McCance Huether, 2014).
The central nervous system CNS is the main control center of the body that receives sensory input,
organizes and synthesizes it then provides instructions for motor output to the rest of the body. It
constitute of the brain and spinal cord. The brain consist of the cerebrum which regulates high level
functioning such as thinking, and the cerebellum which maintains coordination. The midbrain, pons
and medulla are part of the brain stem and they control lower level functioning such as respiration.
The spinal cord joins the body s main receptors, and functions as a channel for sensory input and
motor output.
The peripheral nervous system (PNS) constitute of the cranial and spinal nerves. The PNS provides
the connection between internal or external stimuli

Freedom Of Religion And The American Civil Liberties Union
Freedom of religion has been a right guaranteed to individuals in society. However, it is ultimately just
an idea put in place that is disregarded as something insignificant. The workplaces of many people
choose to deny employees the right to express their religion freely, for fear it may leave a bad image
for the company. It is apparent that freedom of religion is not a strong right as many people may have
originally thought it was. The limits of this right have been tested for decades and continue to be an
issue for people today. Freedom of religion may go on to exist as a right in society, but when
investigating deeper into this privilege, it is evident that it is merely an idea taken for granted. The
First Amendment to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another item to take into consideration when talking about freedom of religion is the Establishment
Clause. This clause does not allow for any portion of the government to choose to acknowledge a
particular religion. As a result, the population is scrutinized for acknowledging religions practiced
throughout the world. The government may not support a specific religion, but ultimately owes
individuals the respect they deserve, even if they do associate with a particular belief. This happens in
order to make religious freedom only a minor idea instead of the greater meaning of it as a right.
Many schools and other religious organizations are ultimately not supported by the government, in
order to maintain the separation of government agencies and religious doctrine (Your). Another
important part of the First Amendment, is the recognition of the Free Exercise Clause. This gives
individuals the right to select whether or not they want to be involved with a religion of their choice.
This clause also gives security to those who want to be able to express their religion, without fear of
harsh punishments inflicted by others. Unfortunately, many people do not express a specific religion
due to the view society has. Since many people see the freedom of religion as only an idea, there is not
much emphasis placed on protecting a right that should be the most

Analysis Of Kevin Hart Like Ride Along 2
Honestly, I m starting to wonder if there should be a law against creating sequels to horrible
predecessors. I know. I know. That s ridiculous. But that doesn t change the fact that nobody asked for
another Ride Along. The first film was cheesy, unimaginative, and the partnership between Kevin Hart
and Ice Cube was mediocre at best. At the same time, though the cop comedy managed to gross a little
more than $150 million worldwide, produced against a conservative budget of $25 million.
By definition, that is the recipe for a successful Hollywood production. Still, the reviews were
gruesome, and I don t exactly know anyone that said, Man, I can t wait for a Ride Along sequel. Sure,

In PG 13 films, like Ride Along 2, he relies upon nonsensical moments, like an alligator eating his
shoe or sticking his head into a ceiling fan, for lackluster laughs. Both of those scenes, I might add,
didn t even warrant a sympathy laugh, let alone the reaction it was going for.
While Kevin Hart flounders around in this sequel, identically to his role in the first film, Ice Cube
doesn t do much to add layers to his role, either with his character s continuous attempts to drum up
laughter with stern, smug sarcasm. Like Hart, I like Ice Cube, too. He s had a few memorable roles
here and there but he will obviously be remembered as one of the founding members of the legendary,
groundbreaking rap group, N.W.A. And, as much as his lyrics revolutionized the music industry, his
acting career isn t exactly wowing anyone at the moment.
On paper, Kevin Hart and Ice Cube should demonstrate an endless amount of playful and outlandish
chemistry. In reality, though they wish they could be as popular as other comedy cop duos with
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill sticking out as the best in the business at the moment (in the 21 Jump
Street which Ice Cube also stars in, and is rather hilarious more often than not). With that said, the

A Better Solution to the Underage Drinking Problem
Recently, the issue of underage drinking has become a major problem for our society. According to the
National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (2009), about 10.4 million young people between
ages 12 and 20 have drank more than just a few sips of alcohol. Moreover, 5,000 people under the age
of 21 die each year in alcohol related deaths including car crashes, homicides, and other injuries such
as falls (NIAAA, 2009). When adolescents go out to drink, they often cause a problem. Alcohol abuse
is a significant problem among young people and a solution needs to be found. I believe that there are

Some experts examined wine drinking cultures such as those in Italy, France and Spain for hints on
how to handle alcohol policy better (The Statistical Assessment Service, 2005). In these cultures,
alcohol is part of a meal and children learn to drink with their parents from a very early age.
Therefore, children can learn to take responsibility for their decision of drunkenness. Although these
cultures have high rates of daily drinking, rates of binging and other alcohol problems have,
historically, been low (STATS, 2005). Alcohol itself is viewed as a neutral substance; it is drunkenness
and not drinking that is seen as the problem. In contrast, northern drinking cultures typically have
lower rates of daily drinking but higher rates of binging, alcohol related problems and complete
abstinence (STATS, 2005). The U.S. and Japan has generally followed the northern pattern. Although
this solution will take a long time and a lot of effort, it hopes that cases of underage drinking will
decrease. Indeed, government officials should consider a change of the legal drinking age
immediately.
In today s society teenage alcoholism is a very serious problem that needs to be addressed more.
While the problem of underage drinking cannot be solved in a day or two, there are two approaches I
think work well. As the result of stricter penalties remains unclear, governments should certainly

Oedipus Rex And Master Harold And The Boys
For the two short stories play we read in class, of Oedipus Rex by Dudley Fitts and Robert Fitzgerald
and Master Harold and the boys by Athol Fugard, you we learned that the two main characters from
the stories story had a very similar characteristics from each other. They both shared personal faults
with each other and short temper , great pride in themselves and both characters were treated like a
master from the people around them this was because they were given that idea from the people
around them.
In the both play, Oedipus Rex and Master Harold and the boys. Oedipus and Harold throughout the
play transpired due to the tragic flaw of their characters. They both were very temperamental
characters who became easily angered. Both were prideful individuals, lastly they were treated like a
higher power than they really were. Oedipus who desired to be a hero and avenge the death of Laius.
His devout need to know the truth, and have the proof that it indeed was the truth also led to his ruin.
Harold was very desired to always be right and be looked upon people around him because this made
him feel powerful by others.
Oedipus had a very short temper. This character versus character wrist it brought Oedipus to his
downfall. In the beginning of the play Oedipus was introduced as a noble caring man. But shortly

The Mexican Mother, known as Malinche was a creator. Through her words, she created a new land
free from the Aztecs and human sacrifice. Malinche s ability to translate the native languages of
Mexico to the Spanish invaders gave Malinche the power to stop the much unnecessary bloodshed.
Malinche was a slave, she had no power other than her ability to translate for the Spaniards.Yet, her
name still holds controversy in the Mexican community. La Malinche is acclaimed to be the harlot of
Conquistador Hernan Cortez, her name is a curse among her people. Malinche is blamed for the
suffering of the natives and is believed to be a complacent whore.
The history of Malinche was obscured by fiction and then sold to the Native population of Mexico.
The Spanish wanted the natives to believe that Malinche was the antagonist so they could deflect the
blame from themselves. This increased tensions in the native communities and helped the Spanish
achieve greater success during the colonization of Mexico. It is Ironic that the Mexican people curse
Malinche because they are feeding into the very propaganda that belittles their original native
ancestry. The Spanish believed that the natives were stupid, their traditions were savage and held no
place in their new world. The Spanish planted these seeds of guilt in regards to Malinche, attempting
to falsify history through literature and culture. Instead of embracing Malinches contributions, her
children, the Mexicans curse her name and defy their native origins. The Spanish then achieve the
satisfaction of taking all the credibility for her actions against the Aztecs. By feeding the natives false
information about their Mother, the Spanish are able to control the perception of the uneducated.
These fictions are apparent in the articles that we have read. The seeds of hatred that the Spanish have
sown, appear in the form of prejudice, racism, and sexism.
. By comparing the native mother to a harlot, the Spaniards successfully planted the seeds of shame
into every Mexican. The very same seeds Octavio Paz claims to have been planted by La Malinche
herself. These historical fallacies have been embedded into Spanish literature to promote the

Almost all the migration especially the northern migration, according to Yamashita Rafaela is the only
one who can see the Tropic of orange. In page (11 12) Yamashita describes Rafaela as a metaphorical
mother for the tropic. Rafaela became the only one that has a care taker and attentive observer of the
orange. But the question is why it is Rafaela, being a mother of the line? Being a mother of a small
child is not easy, Rafaela s maternity accentuated in her care or the full time care for her two years old

Centralized training and registration for Service Dogs

Abstract
In today s evolving society, there is more mobility that ever for people with disabilities. One of the
things that allows this to happen is the use of service animals. Problems however arise when people
try to cheat the system. Attempts to pass off pets as service animals, improperly trained animals, and
businesses with lack of knowledge on laws all contribute to ongoing frustrations. The need for a
centralized training standard as well as government registration and regulation of service animals is
clear and immediate. If standards can be established within breeding clubs for Good Citizen training,
then it can be done for service dogs. Then, once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assistance dogs such as emotional support dogs are not trained for tasks or needs of the owner but
rather to provide companionship for the owner. The main reason people are offered an emotional
support dogs is to help cope with mental or behavioral health issues that do not require assistance
outside of the house. Emotional support dogs are often given to victims of domestic violence and
children with emotional disorders. The biggest difference between the emotional support dogs and
service dogs is that while emotional support dogs are trained to comfort and be there emotionally for
their owners at home, they are not needed for daily living support like service dogs are. One of the
primary reason that emotional support dogs would need to be identified as such is to take advantage of
the loophole provided in the law. (Huss, 2012) So service dogs need training. One of the problems
with people who need a service dog is that it is hard to know where to start. Their doctor tells them
that they need one and gives them a letter stating so, but then they are on their own. Most people look
to service dog organizations. These organizations train the dogs to their own set standard and will try
to match them up with the right dog for their needs. This all of course comes at a cost to the disabled
person. (who already has many extra costs in life.) The costs can range from five hindered to twenty

Comparing Michelangelo And Bernini s David
One can see from the many depictions through paintings, sculptures, and architecture that the biblical
young David served as an heroic influence and inspiration for many artists. The creation of these
masterpieces, although constructed in different moments in time, individually display and bring out
great emotional responses from its viewers. When speaking on the statue of David, Michelangelo s
sculpture is world famous and most highly noted. However there is more than one David; one in
which was created more than a century later by the great Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
When looking at Michelangelo s depiction of David in comparison to Bernini s depiction of David,
one can see similar aspects as well as the demonstrated differences. The most obvious difference
would be between the eras in which these sculptures were constructed and the moment in time in
which both artist decided to present. Michelangelo s David, developed in the High Renaissance
period, is that of a brave, confident, and strong young man; preparing himself for the battle ahead of
him. His statue illustrates the human form at the greatest level of achievement, in which it is modeled
after Greek gods; the perfect version of human form. This form of David is elegant, composed,

Across human history, societies adopted different political and societal systems. The same applies in
term of trade, in which the system evolved from basic barter, common sharing, up to the invention of

political, economic, and societal systems in the world are strongly influenced by the western

Laws for copyright, piracy, intellectual property somehow find the origins in the socio economical
system of our world.
In the following essay, we will try to explore the different characteristics of the worlds which may
engender the need for copyright. We will next explain what are piracy and intellectual property vis à
vis the notion of copyright.
Several characteristics of today s world and its business made copyright essentials for the course of
everyday activities.
First the materialism has been the main philosophy of most individuals. People are commonly judged
based on their material possession. The emphasis is thus put on what someone s own, its goods,
properties. The material benefit is of first importance, and it is the basis of world business. Thus, when
someone creates, produces or makes something of potential material benefit, he will definitely want to
protect it. It s clear that in such context copyright automatically becomes crucial.
The second point is the economy. Capitalism is the major economic system throughout the world.

Students Seek Change for Title XI Title XI at Glance Every time an American citizen turns on the
news, there is a headline involving a sexual harassment case or unfortunately, cases of rape. Most
news stories are focused on a questionable school policy that fails to have reasonable judgment and
punishment for students involved. Recent cases in the news, like the Brock Turner case has turned
viral due to the publicity and exposure it had among young people. This particular case was something
that was so real to students in both high school and college, that millennial s began to alter their
perception of how insensitively harassment cases are handled. The Title XI policy that is being
enforced in school systems now, is a policy that has been up for debate by those who enforce the
policy and those the policy effects for years now. The policy belongs to the education amendments of
1972. One might say that the policy is outdated. Although the policy has seen some updates to its
history, the language of the act is irrelevant in context to current situations the school systems are
facing now. The question remains, how does one change the policy and what policies need to be made.
The policy itself states that, No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from

of an administration can be utilized as a measure to evaluate how powerful the legislature is in broad
daylight administration issues. At the point when the legislature is steady, it is then less demanding to
react to the necessities of general society. Soundness of the administration guarantees rises to the

Those who worked more than eighty hours a week increased their risk of coronary heart disease by

long hours usually do not exercise often. The Australian Diabetes, Obesity, and Lifestyle Study found

Understanding Of Free Will And God s Omniscience
Great Theologian Paper
Consolations of Philosophy
Prompt: Analyze Boethius s understanding of free will and God s omniscience as found in the
Consolation of Philosophy. (4 6 Pages)
The idea of human will has taken over Christians for centuries. Boethius the theologian offers two
different ideas in the book Consolations of Philosophy, the understanding of divine foreknowledge and
free will. Boethius explains There seems to be a hopeless conflict between divine foreknowledge of all
things and freedom of human will. For if God sees everything in advance and cannot be deceived in
any way, whatever his providence foresees will happen, must happen. Therefor, if God foreknows
eternally not only all the acts of men, but also their plans and wishes, there cannot be freedom of will,
nothing whatever can be done or even desired without its being known beforehand by the infallible
Providence of God. (Baird, Philosophic Classics, Consolations of Philosophy 126.)
Others have concluded that omniscience and human free will are exclusive. All actions are known by
God beforehand. Boethius however, refuses to accept that conclusion. He believes that freewill
absolutely is essential to moral activity and responsibility. There is a freewill...and no rational nature
can exist which does not have it. For any being, which by its nature has the use of reason, must also
have the power of judgment by which it can make decision and, by its own resources, distinguish
between things which should be

International Energy Resources And Prices
1. In what ways is OPEC important, and not so important, in terms of international energy resources
and prices?
In the panorama of international relations, the absence of universal or potentially universal institution
dealing with energy is notable. Established in 1960, OPEC s original trigger was the continuing slide
in posted prices, which at the time were unilaterally established by the International Oil Companies.
It is frequently maintained that OPEC is a cartel that has the power to effectively limit its members oil
production and exports and thus influence oil prices.
However, this representation is way off the mark, and grossly exaggerates OPEC s cohesion and
influence. In actual fact, OPEC is more akin to a club whose members ... Show more content on

By that, the major pro will be a cleaner air and better quality, reducing the number of deaths caused by
poor quality air. The con of fracking for health problems is that air quality dynamics around fracking
operations are not fully understood. Similarly, fracking is known for its low water intensity compared
to fuels and nuclear, which use up to 10 times more water than fracking (per energy unit). However,
the con is the intrusive presence of fracking within the environment where it is implemented: noise,
heavy infrastructures etc.
In addition, fracking raises the question of greenhouse gas leaks. The major pro of hydraulic fracturing
here is the gigantic benefit of release of green house emission: it is commonly believed that natural
gas produces only about 50% of the greenhouse gas emission compared with burning of coal. On the
other hand, researches have showed that big quantities of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, have
leaked from fracking.
The third important point linked to hydraulic fracturing concerns drinking water and shallow aquifers.
The major pro raised in that question is the reliability of fracking operations and infrastructures:
drinking water is situated at different level than oil or gas which means that with an efficient good
quality piping system, contaminating drinking water supplies is very unlikely. However, this particular

Gas Price Fluctuation Analysis
A recent price shift that all American drivers have experienced is the constant fluctuations of gas
prices. As I turned 16 in 2013 gas prices were on the rise ranging from $3 $4 across the nation. For
many Americans it caused them to make economical decisions on what vehicle to buy taking on extra
jobs to pay for gas, cutting out vacations because of the high gas expense. During 2013 I would even
struggle filling up my dodge pickup every week and realizing how much money I was spending just
on gas. However, in 2016 prices have decreased to $1 $2 dollars. If we look back on the history of gas
prices we can analyze that reason gas prices change so often is based on the amount of crude oil. Since
oil is the main input for producing gasoline, so if there is a rise in oil price than gasoline price must
rise as well. Many factors go into affecting gas prices, but one example in particular is the detriment of

The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of Calaveras County Summary
The following essay will lay out a literary analysis of the plot, major characters and the major themes,
of the story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. The story takes place in an old mid
19th century mining town called Angels Camp, the narrator claims to go there to find a man by the
name of Simon Wheeler. Like any mining town in the West, it was populated primarily by men, many
of them looking for their fortune. As something of a frontier town, it would probably seem to be full of
loud, uncouth, and uneducated people compared to the more genteel East. The narrator, a mannered
Easterner, describes his visit to a mining camp where, on behalf of a friend, he is searching for one
Leonidas W. Smiley. He stops in an old tavern, where he meets goodnatured, garrulous old Simon
Wheeler, who cannot recall a Leonidas Smiley, but does remember a Jim Smiley who lived in the
camp around 1849 or 1850. Without prompting, Wheeler launches into an extended narrative about the
gambler Smiley and his exploits. Smiley, he says, was uncommon lucky, and had a reputation for ...

A comparative review of the vascular system in seed plants and humans
In the evolutionary tree of life, all biotic organisms are believed to have derived from a common
ancestor. The organisms falling under the eukaryotic kingdom of Plantae are known to have arisen in
the same time period as those in the eukaryotic kingdom of Animalia the Paleozoic era, about 500
million years ago (MYA) (Raven et al., 2008). Despite their chronological resemblance, their
evolutionary diversity is especially great in their most advanced organisms humans and seed plants.
One key system that illustrates this diversity is the vascular system (or the cardiovascular system in
humans). The vascular system of the respective lines of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While xylem transports water and nutrients that generally originate at the roots, phloem transports
food (in the form of sugars), hormones, and mRNA which generally originate in the leaf of the plant.
Additionally, while water is moved through passive transport, food requires energy to be driven
throughout the length of the root and shoot, and is thus carried through active transport. Food transport
is said to go from a source (where it is made) to a sink (where it is needed) (Vaucher, 2003). Humans
use a more intricate network of systems to keep the internal body conditions moist and nourished. The
cardiovascular system is the primary network of tubules responsible for molecular transport. Humans
extract nutrients, vitamins, and other vital compounds from food in the gastrointestinal tract;
extraction of minerals, vitamins, blood, and vital compounds from liquids is done primarily in the
glomerulus of the kidney (Raven et al., 2008). Once the necessary molecules are in the blood stream,
the cardiovascular system delivers it to the desired tissue through diffusion. The cardiovascular system
of humans uses the heart to circulate blood throughout the body. The human heart is composed of four
chambers; the left atrium and left ventricle transport oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the
body, incoming deoxygenated blood filters from the superior and inferior vena cava to right atrium

Simultaneously, they allow readers to comprehend the large effects the events had on small people s
lives. For instance, on page 185 it states, They realize that what they feared has happened... There is a
sound of violent pounding on the door below. These directions show the collection of Jews wasn t
gentle or calm, but violent and terrifying. They gave the opportunity to experience what it might have
been like to be going through the same thing they did. Consequently, it gives life to the dull
happenings one would read about in an informative piece of writing. Not to mention another paradigm

in many people s lives and eventually they got used to it. It also signifies the air raids happening all
over Europe from opposing forces. The stage directions in this drama help understand the personal

The Paradox Of Nollywood
How can we explain this paradox of Nollywood s boom whose film products are being madly sought
after by the audience it targets and yet remains a victim of the scorn and contempt of the Western
press? Nollywood s success story is paradoxically a result of an economic failure of structural
adjustment policies in Nigeria, which rendered the shooting of celluloid films prohibitively expensive
(Ayakoroma 2010). By cutting corners and avoiding all the difficulties that francophone movies had to
contend with in depending wholly and solely on French subvention, Nollywood has aggressively filled
the void that Western filmic can never really fill in poverty stricken African contexts. Born out of an
economic necessity, Nollywood, has sadly been conditioned by the urge to make profit while paying
little or no attention to ideals of promoting a national esprit de corp, ethics of respect for copyright
laws or the recounting of the collective story of the people (Ayakoroma 2010).
The price paid by Nollywood for cutting corners has been the marginalization of its cinematographic

It is a perfect cinematographic imaging of the Nigerian situation. This makes it popular and easily
marketable (Haynes Okome 1998, 29). Nollywood s popularity is sealed by the fact that the audience
feels its story being told, and this is the argument for its success in the market. Nigerian
cinematographic products have equally undergone a veritable metamorphosis to have learnt from all
forms of cinemas and are gradually moving towards the enviable situation of a developed homegrown
video industry that can arguably boast of its own distinctness. Originally projected for the traditional
village settings of juju, village oriented comedy and folkloristic renditions, these ambulant theatres
have developed into a remarkable structure of a regional film tradition dominating all of West Africa

Brick Lane Research Paper
Despite numerous studies that show the importance of risk taking in the development of children,
nowadays, very few are the playgrounds which provide opportunities for risk and a relative danger. A
difference has to be made between the idea of risk and the one of danger. In fact, if danger has to be
avoided, risk in a playground is essential to children development, it is what will help them to adapt
and be prepared to an unexpected environment when they will grow up. Brick Lane Playscape project
is about designing a playground which implements the notions of risk and wilderness in the urban
context of Brick Lane, London, to allow children to challenge themselves and to go wild as much as
they want. Due to its prominent location, close to Liverpool

Why Do Not Football Helmets Promote Neck Injuries Essay
The goal of this project is to work towards answering the question of whether or not football helmets
promote neck injuries. In order to gather data, a U of R team made a machine that rapidly changes
speed while translating from side to side to stimulate a rotational acceleration and velocity about the
head and neck due to an angular displacement. The purpose of this machine is to simulate an
unexpected and sudden change in motion of the head in order to analyse the resulting motion. The data
collected was the rotational position of the head, the linear position of the cart, and the linear position
of a point on the body. All measurements were made with and without a helmet. In order to answer the
main question, there had to be a further understanding of how the mechanics of the head and neck
change with the addition of a helmet. To achieve this, MATLAB was used to compute the resulting
velocities and accelerations, the reaction forces at the neck, and the moment about the base of the
neck. From these calculations, it is possible to make observations about how the addition of a helmet
affects the dynamics of the head and neck. The code is structured with a script of general input data
such as the given data and labels for plots. All of the given position data was corrected to start at
position zero for better comparison between the positions with and without the helmet. The
information was then passed into a function that converted all data into the desired units, computed

Case Study Of Star Alliance
Executive summary
Since the 1990s the alliances in the airline industries is common and there are three major airline
alliances which are present in the world are OneWorld, SkyTeam and Star Alliance. These alliances of
airlines have covered almost two third of world air traffic industry and the major contribution in this is
Star Alliance. The strategic alliances on the part of the airlines are done because of many advantages
which not only organizations reap but also the other stakeholders which are involved in this type of
alliances. This research paper is evaluation of why the strategic alliances are important and why the
organizations go into the strategic alliances the case study of star alliance was taken as the reference

Learning, specialization and fix cost distribution can spread over larger output with economies of
scales (Albers, Koch and Ruff, 2005). Three strategies were opted as motivation by the airlines to
create an alliance (i) mergers and acquisitions, (ii) setting up low cost carriers and (iii) air alliances.
Air alliance was considered as the most sustainable strategy by the Star airline. Through the strategic
alliance, the airline had an opportunity to expand and become large but at the same time they can
lower their cost by creating the competitive advantage that is why Start Alliance opted for this option
(Cojohari, 2015).
2.2 Marketing and Branding
Airline behavior could not be explained effectively with changing cost structure. In the bottom line of
any alliance marketing strategies and demand response are important. With Star Alliance, the airline
can offer their consumers large and denser global network of airlines with smooth connections among
airlines. Airlines have demands with competitive prices in Star Alliance due to economies of scope,
scale and density. In Star Alliance partners are able to offer better products and services due to airlines
increased capacity to retain and generate passengers (Cullen, Johnson and Sakano, 2000).

  • 4. The Importance Of A Competency For Execution Evaluation Introduction An ethical decision is a decision in which a person is conflicted between two moral ideals. The answer is not clear in these types of situations. The deliverance of punishment in America has always been an ethical decision, especially when the punishment is death. After a horrific crime is committed, many complicated proceedings take place, and sometimes these proceedings sometimes lead to the decision to execute the person responsible. The next steps are complex and often times create moral conflicts for those who are participating in them. One step that must take place when an accused has been sentenced to death is a competency exam which is administered by a mental health professional. This paper will focus on mental health professional s participation to certify someone as death ready prior to execution and the ethical decisions that mental health professionals face during this time, yet the ultimate need for their expertise. Background Information A competency for execution evaluation is required by law to be performed before the execution of a person sentenced to death. This exam aims to make sure the accused is death ready, or in other words are they competent to be executed. To be considered competent to be executed, one must: (a) understand and appreciate the punishment, (b) understand and appreciate death, and (c) have the ability to work with the judicial team (Neal, 2010, p. 148). This film directed by Ridley Scott is both a great and terrible depiction of the Roman Empire in its Golden Age. Some of the tiniest details of this time period have been observed and recreated skillfully, yet some major issues have been completely altered or tweaked. Right from the opening scene one can view historical inaccuracies. First, there was no last great battle against the Germanic tribes the day before Marcus Aurelius death. However, a great battle was fought late in the campaign in 179 C.E., yet Marcus Aurelius did not die until the year 180 C.E.# This leads to another point of error in this film; Marcus Aurelius was not murdered by his son Commodus. ... So, Marcia prepared for Commodus a poisoned glass of whine, however the poison was not strong enough and Commodus was only heavily drugged and survived. Therefore only a few days later the conspirators decided to finish the job by asking one of Commodus athletic friends, a wrestler named Narcissus, to strangle him in his bath on December 31 of 192. Ironically enough Commodus was to be proclaimed a Consul the following day. The character Proximo in the movie also claims that Marcus Aurelius had banned the gladiator fights and forced him to scratch a living in the north African Roman colony of Mirabile Dictu. While Mirabile Dictu is an actual colony in Mauretania the fact is that Marcus Aurelius actually passed a piece of written legislature that ensured the continuation of all gladiatorial games even through times of economic hardship.# From here the major discrepancies end and only the minor ones begin to take form. The government of Oceania, the Party, keeps citizens in a vice like grip through constant surveillance and laws placed on every aspect of human existence. The only loyalty allowed is to the Party. Presynaptic neurons conduct impulses toward the synapse while postsynaptic neurons conduct away from the synapse. The electric impulse move from the first neuron, along the axon, to the synapse at the synaptic knobs. Secretion of chemical transmitter into the synaptic nerve depolarizes the membrane of the subsequent neuron. In its unexcited state, a neuron retains a resting membrane potential. When the membrane potential is excited, the arrival of an action potential at the synaptic knob allows the neurotransmitters released into synaptic cleft to trigger an action potential in the postsynaptic neuron (McCance Huether, 2014). In these cultures, alcohol is part of a meal and children learn to drink with their parents from a very early age. Therefore, children can learn to take responsibility for their decision of drunkenness. Although these cultures have high rates of daily drinking, rates of binging and other alcohol problems have, historically, been low (STATS, 2005). Alcohol itself is viewed as a neutral substance; it is drunkenness and not drinking that is seen as the problem. Through her words, she created a new land free from the Aztecs and human sacrifice. Malinche s ability to translate the native languages of Mexico to the Spanish invaders gave Malinche the power to stop the much unnecessary bloodshed. Malinche was a slave, she had no power other than her ability to translate for the Spaniards.Yet, her name still holds controversy in the Mexican community. La Malinche is acclaimed to be the harlot of Conquistador Hernan Cortez, her name is a curse among her people. Malinche is blamed for the suffering of the natives and is believed to be a complacent whore. The history of Malinche was obscured by fiction and then sold to the Native population of Mexico. The Spanish wanted the natives to believe that Malinche was the antagonist so they could deflect the blame from themselves. This increased tensions in the native communities and helped the Spanish achieve greater success during the colonization of Mexico. It is Ironic that the Mexican people curse Malinche because they are feeding into the very propaganda that belittles their original native ancestry. The Spanish believed that the natives were stupid, their traditions were savage and held no place in their new world. The Spanish planted these seeds of guilt in regards to Malinche, attempting to falsify history through literature and culture. Instead of embracing Malinches contributions, her children, the Mexicans curse her name and defy their native origins. The Spanish then achieve the satisfaction of taking all the credibility for her actions against the Aztecs. Assistance dogs such as emotional support dogs are not trained for tasks or needs of the owner but rather to provide companionship for the owner. The main reason people are offered an emotional support dogs is to help cope with mental or behavioral health issues that do not require assistance outside of the house. Emotional support dogs are often given to victims of domestic violence and children with emotional disorders. The biggest difference between the emotional support dogs and service dogs is that while emotional support dogs are trained to comfort and be there emotionally for their owners at home, they are not needed for daily living support like service dogs are. One of the primary reason that emotional support dogs would need to be identified as such is to take advantage of the loophole provided in the law. (Huss, 2012) So service dogs need training. One of the problems with people who need a service dog is that it is hard to know where to start. Their doctor tells them that they need one and gives them a letter stating so, but then they are on their own. Most people look to service dog organizations. These organizations train the dogs to their own set standard and will try to match them up with the right dog for their needs. This all of course comes at a cost to the disabled person. Understanding Of Free Will And God s Omniscience Great Theologian Paper Consolations of Philosophy Prompt: Analyze Boethius s understanding of free will and God s omniscience as found in the Consolation of Philosophy. (4 6 Pages) The idea of human will has taken over Christians for centuries. Boethius the theologian offers two different ideas in the book Consolations of Philosophy, the understanding of divine foreknowledge and free will. Boethius explains There seems to be a hopeless conflict between divine foreknowledge of all things and freedom of human will. For if God sees everything in advance and cannot be deceived in any way, whatever his providence foresees will happen, must happen. Therefor, if God foreknows eternally not only all the acts of men, but also their plans and wishes, there cannot be freedom of will, nothing whatever can be done or even desired without its being known beforehand by the infallible Providence of God. (Baird, Philosophic Classics, Consolations of Philosophy 126.) Others have concluded that omniscience and human free will are exclusive. All actions are known by God beforehand. Boethius however, refuses to accept that conclusion. He believes that freewill absolutely is essential to moral activity and responsibility. There is a freewill...and no rational nature can exist which does not have it. For any being, which by its nature has the use of reason, must also have the power of judgment by which it can make decision and, by its own resources, distinguish between things which should be ... In the panorama of international relations, the absence of universal or potentially universal institution dealing with energy is notable. The con of fracking for health problems is that air quality dynamics around fracking operations are not fully understood. Similarly, fracking is known for its low water intensity compared to fuels and nuclear, which use up to 10 times more water than fracking (per energy unit). However, the con is the intrusive presence of fracking within the environment where it is implemented: noise, heavy infrastructures etc. In addition, fracking raises the question of greenhouse gas leaks. The major pro of hydraulic fracturing here is the gigantic benefit of release of green house emission: it is commonly believed that natural gas produces only about 50% of the greenhouse gas emission compared with burning of coal. On the other hand, researches have showed that big quantities of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, have leaked from fracking. The third important point linked to hydraulic fracturing concerns drinking water and shallow aquifers. During 2013 I would even struggle filling up my dodge pickup every week and realizing how much money I was spending just on gas. However, in 2016 prices have decreased to $1 $2 dollars. If we look back on the history of gas prices we can analyze that reason gas prices change so often is based on the amount of crude oil. The story takes place in an old mid 19th century mining town called Angels Camp, the narrator claims to go there to find a man by the name of Simon Wheeler. Like any mining town in the West, it was populated primarily by men, many of them looking for their fortune. The narrator, a mannered Easterner, describes his visit to a mining camp where, on behalf of a friend, he is searching for one Leonidas W. Smiley. He stops in an old tavern, where he meets goodnatured, garrulous old Simon Wheeler, who cannot recall a Leonidas Smiley, but does remember a Jim Smiley who lived in the camp around 1849 or 1850. Food transport is said to go from a source (where it is made) to a sink (where it is needed) (Vaucher, 2003). The Paradox Of Nollywood How can we explain this paradox of Nollywood s boom whose film products are being madly sought after by the audience it targets and yet remains a victim of the scorn and contempt of the Western press? • 45. Brick Lane Research Paper Despite numerous studies that show the importance of risk taking in the development of children, nowadays, very few are the playgrounds which provide opportunities for risk and a relative danger. A difference has to be made between the idea of risk and the one of danger. In fact, if danger has to be avoided, risk in a playground is essential to children development, it is what will help them to adapt and be prepared to an unexpected environment when they will grow up. Brick Lane Playscape project is about designing a playground which implements the notions of risk and wilderness in the urban context of Brick Lane, London, to allow children to challenge themselves and to go wild as much as they want. Due to its prominent location, close to Liverpool ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Why Do Not Football Helmets Promote Neck Injuries Essay The goal of this project is to work towards answering the question of whether or not football helmets promote neck injuries. In order to gather data, a U of R team made a machine that rapidly changes speed while translating from side to side to stimulate a rotational acceleration and velocity about the head and neck due to an angular displacement. The purpose of this machine is to simulate an unexpected and sudden change in motion of the head in order to analyse the resulting motion. The data collected was the rotational position of the head, the linear position of the cart, and the linear position of a point on the body. All measurements were made with and without a helmet. In order to answer the main question, there had to be a further understanding of how the mechanics of the head and neck change with the addition of a helmet. To achieve this, MATLAB was used to compute the resulting velocities and accelerations, the reaction forces at the neck, and the moment about the base of the neck. From these calculations, it is possible to make observations about how the addition of a helmet affects the dynamics of the head and neck. The code is structured with a script of general input data such as the given data and labels for plots. All of the given position data was corrected to start at position zero for better comparison between the positions with and without the helmet. The information was then passed into a function that converted all data into the desired units, computed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Case Study Of Star Alliance Executive summary Since the 1990s the alliances in the airline industries is common and there are three major airline alliances which are present in the world are OneWorld, SkyTeam and Star Alliance. These alliances of airlines have covered almost two third of world air traffic industry and the major contribution in this is Star Alliance. The strategic alliances on the part of the airlines are done because of many advantages which not only organizations reap but also the other stakeholders which are involved in this type of alliances. This research paper is evaluation of why the strategic alliances are important and why the organizations go into the strategic alliances the case study of star alliance was taken as the reference and the circumstances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Learning, specialization and fix cost distribution can spread over larger output with economies of scales (Albers, Koch and Ruff, 2005). Three strategies were opted as motivation by the airlines to create an alliance (i) mergers and acquisitions, (ii) setting up low cost carriers and (iii) air alliances. Air alliance was considered as the most sustainable strategy by the Star airline. Through the strategic alliance, the airline had an opportunity to expand and become large but at the same time they can lower their cost by creating the competitive advantage that is why Start Alliance opted for this option (Cojohari, 2015). 2.2 Marketing and Branding Airline behavior could not be explained effectively with changing cost structure. In the bottom line of any alliance marketing strategies and demand response are important. With Star Alliance, the airline can offer their consumers large and denser global network of airlines with smooth connections among airlines. Airlines have demands with competitive prices in Star Alliance due to economies of scope, scale and density. In Star Alliance partners are able to offer better products and services due to airlines increased capacity to retain and generate passengers (Cullen, Johnson and Sakano, 2000). 2.3 Financial ...
