2. AnalysisThe masthead is the largest font on the cover and it always in a unique font. This is used to grip the audiences, this
allows for easy access for the audience to find what they are looking for when searching for their brand or for when they
want to find a certain page in the magazine the masthead allows you eyes to be drawn. In Q magazine is the Q is
positioned at the top of the page on the left hand sided of the contents page. The masthead sets the simple but effective
colour scheme of red, black and white. The audience can instantly distinguish this to be Q magazine without seeing the
masthead. The magazine uses the same colour scheme throughout to create the recognition which will attract audiences
due to the magazine looking professional making it seem like it’s worth money which you are dishing out for it.
Contents is split into sections as regular contents, feature and news. All of this is used to keep the audience attracted
and for easy reading capabilities so the magazine has structure and is easy to follow making it a more entertaining and
clear read. This is used to make the magazine look professional and not messy allowing all the text and picture to fit into
a perfect format. They all fit into separate columns. They use subheading which allows their contents page to flow, which
always helps the audience to establish where the information for the pages within the magazine are, the red background
links in with the colour scheme and also the use of the white makes the writing stand out. They always use captions
which gives the audience a preview as to what the audience should expect for each page. They use selling line describes
what the magazine is about, such as using the captions “Adele” clearly shows the audience they should be reading about
something which will feature in the magazine about one of the largest starts in world. This suggests that all articles are
on the best artists and bands, this is
used to attract a wider audience.

On this contents page it uses a high angles shot of Liam Gallagher the images clearly shows Liam looking away from the audience this was used to due to Liam always
being a bit mentally unstable with the public and how his fall from grace has been hard on him and the split up from oasis so they have used this to have connotations of
his disconnection from the audience. They use a sub image in this contents page which is of Bryan May (guitarist and songwriter of Queen) they have used this because
of one of the subheading being about Queen again clearly showing that they fit all of the images around the text making the entire contents page to fit together correctly
giving it a professional and polished off finish which makes the audience feel like they have made a high quality purchase.
The date and subscription is used for the audience to know when the magazine has been published. This is used for the audience to be in the know and using the correct
format which again just ties into the professional look of the magazine. The subscription part is just for the audience know how to follow their favourite magazine on
social media

4. The contents page for Kerrang magazine shows a the masthead large and again in the
unique font they use the name Kerrang due to the name having connotations of rock due
to it’s an onomatopoeia for the sound that the guitar makes during a performance. They
are using basic colour scheme of white, black, yellow, and red. This is used to keep it
simple and professional allowing it flow and the colours which are being used also have
connotations of the music which is being seen in the magazine due to it being dark and
light colours. This clearly showing that they range from heavy rock to the more light and
commercial pop punk. These colours are also being used because it makes the text and
headings stand out. They separate the contents into columns making it a entertaining
read for the audience due it being correctly structured for perfect reading. The photo
which is used in this magazine is a full band photo of Young Guns which is used to attract
the audience they are using direct mode of address which is used to try and connect
with audience making it feel like they are involved with the artists, they have place the
image of the entire band so it implies to the audience that it will be about this band, they
have placed the lead singer at front so the audience will be able to recognise their
favourite artists much easier assonating the contents with the picture.
The use of subscription is for information which provides the readers with the
knowledge to subscribe to the magazine. This encourages audience to purchase more
magazines before even reading the magazine. Banner main mastheads are placed on a
yellow writing on the black background used to make the masthead more eye catching.
They have subheadings featured on the bottom of the page to break different articles up
into different sections making it much easier and quicker to read. This allows the
audience to find a preferred article. Each article has a place/ category allowing to flow
correctly making it have a professionals.

5. Colour scheme Rolling stones have kept with the consistency of the same colours, this is used to make
the magazine cohesion. This make is seem more professional this allows for a clear and easy read for the
audience to indulge in. However the colour red also gives the idea to the audience that what they are
reading is urgent, due to this colour having conations of panic this is used to make it stand out. Which
suggests that the rolling stone has news that no other magazine can give them.
The contents is the rolling stone magazine is varied from other music magazines it has transcended to
giving different types of news allowing them focus on a much wider target audience. This is used to help
with the idea that this magazine caters to more than one type of content they have put them in to
different categories to suit the audience that are reading it. The layout is also simplistic and easy to
navigate which helps the consumer get to what they’re looking for a lot faster, rather than having to look
through different types of font sizes and designs.
The contents page also includes a variety in different styles of images to attract different people to read
this. This shows that the magazine has a lot to offer in terms of genre and contents. They have also
layered it so that the magazine flows and looks professional this is done by having all the contents in line
and not interfering with the rest of the magazine minimalist style to stick to the idea that this magazine
is intended for a mature audience than the likes of Kerrang.
The Rolling stone magazine uses different types of fonts to make the page more appealing, this is used to
keep the magazine interesting and not start to decline it something bland and busy. All the fonts are
cohesive this makes the page seem elegant and minimalistic. This attracts a much wider range for the
target audience making it clear to read and entertain layout.
The images which is used for this contents page are two artsiest playing a piano and one at a gig showing
they are up to date with new realised artists and recent concerts which are being played they have used
a photos of a famous artists to show how exclusive their contents is this is amplified with the photo of
Baraca Obama this is clearly showing that Rolling Stone magazine can get contents which other magazine
clearly can not due to one of the most important people in modern history appearing in the magazine.
The subheading are split into a national affairs, departments, these are showing how Rolling Stone are
update with news affairs clearly showing how up to date with national and international affairs again
showing they don’t just focus on music but have evolved into this powerhouse magazine which covers so
many more topics at hand. The feature contents which is showed in the magazine are all popular artsis
such as Eminem and Bruce Springsteen again showing how diverse this magazine is they only show the
most popular and great artist.
