In Amelia’sinterviewshe saidhowshe likedindierockaswell asthe lyricsof songsthat she listened
to. Asa resultwe hope tocreate a musicvideothathas an immersive storylinethatactsas an
anecdote tothe viewerinaneffortto draw themintothe video.We will trytolinkthisintothe lyrics
of the songas effectivelyaspossible. Thiswill appeal toalarge target audience asall age groupsas
the videowill be easytowatchdue to its sense of flow andcontinuationthroughoutthe storyline.

colourscheme.

likedthe visualsof rocktype musicvideosbutthe upbeattone of the popmusic.We could tryto use
a rock style video,althoughrockmusicvideosdon’toftenhave agoodstoryline andmore focus on
the band playingthe music. Asa resultwe will aimtowardsanarrative basedvideo,asourother

indie/alternative groupwhomainlyfocusonlinkinganappealingstorylineintotheirsong. The video
theyuse getsthe audience verymuchinvestedbehindthe maincharacter.Youwant himto do well
and succeed. Thisisthe effectwe want togo for inour video.We wantthe audience toget behind
the character and feel the emotionstheyfeel.Inthe videoarange of camera shotswere usedthat
linkedintothe conventionsof the musicgenre.Thismeansthatviewerscaneasilytell whatkindof
musicit is,notonlyfrom the songbut alsoby the waythe videoisfilmed.Due tothese factorswe
will focusonthe narrative ratherthan the band.

twoindividualswhowere clearlyinsome sortof complicatedrelationship.Thisinveststhe viewerin
the characters theyare watching.The wayinwhichit isvideoed,withthe charactersonthe floor
actingout there relationshipwithabird’seye shotof itbeingplayedout.Thisbringsanindividual
side tothe videothatI hadn’tseenbefore,andmade ourgroupthinkof individualistideasthatwe
couldbringto our ownvideo.

Will chose ‘Dani California’ashismusicvideobyRedHotChilli Peppers.The musicbeginswithan
oldfeel thenprogressesthroughoutthe agesandstylesof musicuntil theyendontheircurrentlook.
Althoughthe videodoesn’thave muchof a storyline toit, itdoeshowevershow asense of
progression.Thisiswhatwe wantto achieve inourvideo.We wantto be able to show the
characters involveddeveloping andchangingthroughout. The contrastof coloursalsocreatesan
interestingelementtothe videodue tothe differentiationbetweenthe blackandwhite atthe
beginningcomparedtothe brightcoloursof the otherscenes.There isalsothe use of intertextuality
as differentbands are usedthroughthe video.Forexample ‘Kiss’‘Elvis’and‘Nirvana’.

and make the videomore watchable.

we use shouldtryto be upto date withcurrenttrendsandstylesas thiswill linkintoEmma’s
interestinpopmusic.

shouldtryand incorporate some onstage footage thatyou wouldusuallysee inarockmusic video
and alsocurrenttrendsthat youmay see ina popvideo.Howeverthiswe be difficulttoachieve as
we are tryingto stickwiththe ideaof a narrative toplayout throughthe video.Due tothiswe
shouldtryto incorporate rock andpop indifferentways.We coulduse arock like colourscheme
withdarkercolours,thenuse upto date trendsforthe pop side of it.

What isyour favourite albumcoverandwhy?

Ameliasaid‘Blackholesandrevelations’byMuse.The album
coverusesverybright,vibrantcolours.The image hasbeen
dividedinto2/3orange for the Grand Canyonand 1/3 blue for
the sky.The wayin whichthishasbeendividedupmakesit
visuallyveryappealingtolookat.The image leadsyoudown
the page allowingyoutotake inall the information.This
approach seems veryappropriate,aswe don’twantpeople
seeingourDigi Paklookingall overthe page,orrandom things
takingtheirattentionawayfromthe mainimage.

Emma saidshe liked ‘Headfull of dreams’by Coldplay.This
albumcoverhas a clear popfeel toit,withbrightboldcolours
and intricate patterns.Althoughthe coverhasnice visualsI
don’tthinkwe will goforthiskindof style.There are fartoo
manythingsgoingon inthe cover,and for the simplisticstyle
of musicwe will be goingwithwe will prefertouse asimpler
style of albumcover. Howeverthiscoverwill still aimtobe
poignant,withaclear linkintothe musicvideowe willhave
made.

Will’sdecisionwas ‘Abbey Road’bythe Beatles.Thisdesignis
verysimplisticandfitsinwiththe approachthat we want to
achieve withouralbumcover.The four band membersare the
mainfocal pointof the cover;the remainderof the image
seemstodraw the viewer’seyeintothe foregroundof the
image ontothe four bandmembers.Alsothe darkercolours
on the leftandrightof the image lightentowardsthe centre of
the albumbringingyoutowardsthe centre of the image.We
hope to gainthiseffectinourdesignto draw the viewerin.

  • 1. Individual analysis of the interviews: Question1 What isyour favourite genre? Amelia In Amelia’sinterviewshe saidhowshe likedindierockaswell asthe lyricsof songsthat she listened to. Asa resultwe hope tocreate a musicvideothathas an immersive storylinethatactsas an anecdote tothe viewerinaneffortto draw themintothe video.We will trytolinkthisintothe lyrics of the songas effectivelyaspossible. Thiswill appeal toalarge target audience asall age groupsas the videowill be easytowatchdue to its sense of flow andcontinuationthroughoutthe storyline. Emma Emma saidin herinterviewhowshe wasinterestedincurrentpopmusicaswell asthe recenttrends that come withit.Due to thiswe can tell thatwe should try to include currentfashiontrendsand appealingcoloursthatlinkintopopculture.Forexample abrightsummarycolourscheme withreds, yellowsandoranges.Inourvideoitwill be wintertime however,therefore we willhave adarker colourscheme. Question2 What isthe mostmemorable musicvideoyouhave seen? Amelia Ameliasaidthatherfavourite musicvideowas‘all Iwant’byKodaline.Kodaline are an indie/alternative groupwhomainlyfocusonlinkinganappealingstorylineintotheirsong. The video theyuse getsthe audience verymuchinvestedbehindthe maincharacter.Youwant himto do well and succeed. Thisisthe effectwe want togo for inour video.We wantthe audience toget behind the character and feel the emotionstheyfeel.Inthe videoarange of camera shotswere usedthat linkedintothe conventionsof the musicgenre.Thismeansthatviewerscaneasilytell whatkindof musicit is,notonlyfrom the songbut alsoby the waythe videoisfilmed.Due tothese factorswe will focusonthe narrative ratherthan the band. Emma Emma’sfavourite musicvideowas‘chasingpavements’byAdele.Thisvideowasstructuredaround twoindividualswhowere clearlyinsome sortof complicatedrelationship.Thisinveststhe viewerin the characters theyare watching.The wayinwhichit isvideoed,withthe charactersonthe floor actingout there relationshipwithabird’seye shotof itbeingplayedout.Thisbringsanindividual side tothe videothatI hadn’tseenbefore,andmade ourgroupthinkof individualistideasthatwe couldbringto our ownvideo.
  • 2. Will Will chose ‘Dani California’ashismusicvideobyRedHotChilli Peppers.The musicbeginswithan oldfeel thenprogressesthroughoutthe agesandstylesof musicuntil theyendontheircurrentlook. Althoughthe videodoesn’thave muchof a storyline toit, itdoeshowevershow asense of progression.Thisiswhatwe wantto achieve inourvideo.We wantto be able to show the characters involveddeveloping andchangingthroughout. The contrastof coloursalsocreatesan interestingelementtothe videodue tothe differentiationbetweenthe blackandwhite atthe beginningcomparedtothe brightcoloursof the otherscenes.There isalsothe use of intertextuality as differentbands are usedthroughthe video.Forexample ‘Kiss’‘Elvis’and‘Nirvana’. Question3 Do youwatch musicvideosinyourspare-time andwhatdoyoulike ina musicvideo? Amelia Ameliasaidshe didwatchmusicvideosinherspare time,andthatshe likedone withagood narrative thatwas heartfeltandmeaningful,somethingthatthe audience couldrelate to.Due tothis inour videowe will aimtotry and include aneffective storyline,inanefforttodraw the viewerin and make the videomore watchable. Emma Emma saidthat she didwatch videosand she lookedforcoloursandcostumeswithinthesevideos. Thistell usthat we shouldtry to include aninterestingcolourschemeincorporatedintoboththe clothesthatpeople are wearingthe videobutalsothe scenerywe are filmingwithin.The costumes we use shouldtryto be upto date withcurrenttrendsandstylesas thiswill linkintoEmma’s interestinpopmusic. Will Will saidthat he likedvideosthatincludedamixture of bothpopandrock. Thissuggests thatwe shouldtryand incorporate some onstage footage thatyou wouldusuallysee inarockmusic video and alsocurrenttrendsthat youmay see ina popvideo.Howeverthiswe be difficulttoachieve as we are tryingto stickwiththe ideaof a narrative toplayout throughthe video.Due tothiswe shouldtryto incorporate rock andpop indifferentways.We coulduse arock like colourscheme withdarkercolours,thenuse upto date trendsforthe pop side of it.
  • 3. Question4 What isyour favourite albumcoverandwhy? Amelia Ameliasaid‘Blackholesandrevelations’byMuse.The album coverusesverybright,vibrantcolours.The image hasbeen dividedinto2/3orange for the Grand Canyonand 1/3 blue for the sky.The wayin whichthishasbeendividedupmakesit visuallyveryappealingtolookat.The image leadsyoudown the page allowingyoutotake inall the information.This approach seems veryappropriate,aswe don’twantpeople seeingourDigi Paklookingall overthe page,orrandom things takingtheirattentionawayfromthe mainimage. Emma Emma saidshe liked ‘Headfull of dreams’by Coldplay.This albumcoverhas a clear popfeel toit,withbrightboldcolours and intricate patterns.Althoughthe coverhasnice visualsI don’tthinkwe will goforthiskindof style.There are fartoo manythingsgoingon inthe cover,and for the simplisticstyle of musicwe will be goingwithwe will prefertouse asimpler style of albumcover. Howeverthiscoverwill still aimtobe poignant,withaclear linkintothe musicvideowe willhave made. Will Will’sdecisionwas ‘Abbey Road’bythe Beatles.Thisdesignis verysimplisticandfitsinwiththe approachthat we want to achieve withouralbumcover.The four band membersare the mainfocal pointof the cover;the remainderof the image seemstodraw the viewer’seyeintothe foregroundof the image ontothe four bandmembers.Alsothe darkercolours on the leftandrightof the image lightentowardsthe centre of the albumbringingyoutowardsthe centre of the image.We hope to gainthiseffectinourdesignto draw the viewerin.
