Analysis Of Bill Graham, A Holocaust Survivor Turned...
Within industry there is revolution. Innovation for development and a burning desire for further
progression must be realized or risk of failure increases exponentially. Does consistent hard work
not correlate with well earned success? Does perseverance parallel evolution? The music industry is
not impervious to failure and its institutes must evolve to survive in an ever–changing world of
technological advancements. These advancements are utilized and implemented industry wide,
including via event promotion to solidify the future of music as a whole. Event marketing, albeit not
a "modern term", has proved vital to the music industry time and time again as it constantly evolves
as the music industry business model is redefined. Event marketing and promotion has been defined
and consistently redefined as use of technologies upturn.
Bill Graham, a Holocaust survivor turned impresario, paved the way for modern music event
promoters at the forefront of the promotion scene in the 1960s. First starting in theatre, he voices the
difficulties he had promoting the Mime Troupe from the start: "Driving the truck down to the Palo
Alto and putting up the posters and selling the tickets. Taking the show down and reloading the
truck. I'd get home at like 2A.M.."
Here, a tough start proved to be the framework of Graham's career. Handbills, postcards and posters
were just a few of the marketing materials Graham used to promote his events. He commissioned

Marketing Analysis Of J. Crew
Branding
After Millard Drexler was appointed CEO in 2003, J. Crew transformed its branding from focusing
on its previous contemporary denim label, to an emphasis on higher quality staple pieces that can
easily be transitioned from day to night. This rebranding proved to be successful for the company
and soon the J. Crew was being worn by everybody from celebrities to fashion conscious women
looking for a higher quality item. During the inauguration, all of the Obamas were dressed head to
toe in J. Crew, and Michelle Obama later appeared on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno in an
entire J. Crew outfit. J. Crew had really found its market through its brand restructuring. Since 2013,
J. Crew has transformed its branding from a print only catalogue to more intricate social media and
digital marketing tactics to increase it brands strength. Under its 2013 annual SEC filing, the
company's marketing and advertising strategy focused more on print catalogue, but the following
year, J. Crew's strategy focused on communicating its brand message to customers through websites,
catalogues, email marketing, online advertising, and social media. Due to its increase in social
media presence, the company has seen a large growth opportunity in Facebook and Pinterest. Its
newly focused marketing strategy has resulted in an online audience that is willing to spend twice as
the average customer. J. Crew uses Facebook more as an online catalogue to keep its customers and
followers informed on new

Civil War Analysis
The Civil War, known by many as one of the most tumultuous times in our country's history is one
of the most crucial wars that the United States has ever participated in. The reason for this is that the
country was not at war with an enemy from another country but within itself. With the many years
of conflict between the northern union states and the southern confederacy states and with the
Union's victory over the confederate south, it has been known as one of the most infamous wars of
United States History. This war also proclaimed the crucial significance of six presidents from states
that represented both the Union and Confederacy and the effect their political pursuits had on the
Civil War. These Presidents were Abraham Lincoln, Martin ... Show more content on

Buchanan did not help himself with Northerners when he supported an act that made Kansas a slave
state called the Lecompton Constitution. Buchanan died in 1868.
–Lincoln
The final president, but not the least known, is Mr. Penny himself, Abraham
Lincoln. Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States. He was the President who ended
the Civil War on May 9, 1865. Abe Lincoln was a very trusted, intelligent, and self–taught kid;
through self–teaching, Lincoln even became a lawyer. As president of the Union, Lincoln had to
lead the North in order to defeat the Southern Confederacy.
On January 1, 1863, Lincoln issued his Emancipation Proclamation after the Union's
Victory at the "Battle of Antietam." Lincoln also initiated several acts to pay for the high costs of the
war such as The Revenue Act of 1861, The Morrill act of 1862, and the
Homestead Act, which was also passed in 1862. Abraham Lincoln met his death on
April 14, 1865. He was attending a play at the Ford's Theatre in Washington D.C., and was shot in
the head by John Wilkes Booth. Booth sided with the Confederates. Lincoln soon died the following
day after leaving America feeling a bitter loss and

Millard Fillmore Major Accomplishments
Millard Fillmore Millard Fillmore was the 13th president of the United States, taking over the
presidency after Zachary Taylor died in office. As a result, he was the second vice president to be the
president. His term lasted from 1850 to 1853 and he was the last Whig party president in office.
Millard Fillmore was known for being modest, even declining an honorary degree from Oxford
University, saying he had nothing to deserve it. Although he was more of a accidental president,
Fillmore did achieve some accomplishments during his administration that are widely known today.
The early years of Millard Fillmore were uneventful and filled with strenuous work. He was born in

After Zachary Taylor died suddenly in office in 1850, Fillmore took over the presidency without a
vice president. Thus, he was left to solve the conflicts that had arose between the North and South.
One of the solutions was proposed by Henry Clay, called the Compromise of 1850. Under the
Compromise of 1850, California entered the Union as a free state, the Fugitive Slave Act was put
into effect, the slave trade in Washington D.C. was abolished, the border dispute between New
Mexico and Texas was settled, and the territories from the Mexican–American War were left up to
the people to decide whether they wanted to be a slave or free state. Fillmore supported the
compromise wholeheartedly and hoped it would preserve the country and ultimately prevent a civil
war. It did not prevent the civil war, yet the compromise prolonged the war for another ten years.
Additionally, towards the end of his administration, he sent a fleet of ships lead by Matthew Perry to
Japan to force trade relations. Once his term ended in 1854, he ran for a second term in the election
of 1856 with the Know–Nothing Party, an anti–immigrant political party but

The Political Career of Daniel Webster Essay
The Political Career of Daniel Webster
Daniel Webster contributed a large potion of the Civil War. To begin, he was born in Salisbury, New
Hampshire on January 18, 1782. His parents were farmers so many people didn't know what to
expect of him. Even though his parents were farmers, he still graduated from Dartmouth College in
1801. After he learned to be a lawyer, Daniel Webster opened a legal practice in
Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1807.
Webster quickly became an experienced and very good lawyer and a
Federalist party leader. In 1812, Webster was elected to the U.S. House of
Representatives because of his opposition to the War of 1812, which had crippled New England's
shipping trade. After two more terms in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Replying to South Carolina's Robert
Hayne in a Senate debate in 1830, Webster triumphantly defended the Union states by a very
powerful but short speech. He said, "Liberty and Union, now and forever, one and inseparable,"
made him a favorite and made him well known among many people worldwide.
Webster and President Andrew Jackson joined forces in 1833 to try to change South Carolina's
attempt to nullify the tariff, but Webster and the
Whigs battled him on other issues including his attack on the National Bank. Webster ran for the
presidency in the election of 1836 as one of the three
Whig candidates, but he mostly only Massachusetts voted for him so he lost badly because no one
else voted for him. For the rest of his career he tried very hard to get to the presidency and ran in
many elections hoping to get his shot at the office, but it never happened and he failed every time. In
1841, Daniel Webster came close to his idea of President but was only named secretary. President
William Henry Harrison appointed him to this position. When he got killed in April 1841, John
Tyler was brought to the presidency. In September 1841, all the Whigs resigned from the cabinet
except Webster. He remained to settle an argument with Great Britain having to do with the Maine–
Canada boundary and he wanted to finish the
Webster–Ashburn Treaty, which he finally did in 1842. The Whigs finally pressured Webster

Gap has recently taken advantage of the Internet to help it regain its prominence in the marketplace.
The unique opportunities this presents to the buying public (convenience, wider range of products,
etc.) have created additional streams of revenue for the company (Etzel, et.al., 2004).
Coupled with a new advertising campaign starring a variety of hot actors, the company attempted to
recapture the magic of a previous award–winning campaign called "Individuals of Style" (Etzel,
et.al., 2004).
It's really all about getting back to the basics for this company. Drexler said, "I believe Gap, Old
Navy, and Banana Republic are now in a position to offer the product assortments our customers
expect and that reflect what our brands have always stood for. The time is right for me to move on,
and for the company to bring in new leadership to take the business forward." (Etzel, et.al, 2004).
With Paul Pressler now at the helm, the company seems to be moving in the right direction. Since
Gap already has an established reputation and recognition, Pressler can concentrate on paring down
the product line and concentrating on what made Gap successful in the first place.
According to Harry Bernard, retail consultant, the Gap moved away from the fundamentals of
researching the customers demands, maintaining quality, and keeping Wall Street expectations in

Gap Analysis : The Gap Inc.
The Gap began as a single store in San Francisco in 1969 managed by Donald and Doris Fisher. At
first the only items sold were Blue Jeans and records; which at the time was becoming part of
Americans standard wardrobes. Most importantly Mr. Fisher emphasized great prices and a good
fitting jean compared to Levi Strauss & Co. As the years went by Gap Inc. began to sell more than
just blue jean; specializing themselves in products for men, women, and children. The company
prides themselves in casual–style and urban chic clothing which is commonly associated as
American classic wear. The product line features a wide variety of casual apparel such as denim,

Observation Reflection Of The Millard Public School Board...
On October 4, I attended the Millard Public School board meeting for my Government observation
analysis. The meeting was held in the Millard West auditorium. At the meeting I saw lots of parents
of kids who were concerned about their child's education. Unfortunately Millard schools have been
doing some budget cuts to save money to pay back all the money they borrowed and to make the
schools better. In the years 2010–11, 44 teachers and administration positions, 7 custodian positions,
and 3 nursing positions have been eliminated. Those positions are on a list with twelve other budget
cuts. Millard Public School board is already starting a list of cuts for 2017–18 if they don't make a
change. At the meeting I learned about the following that I want to talk about: budget cuts, ballot
,and who will this ballot affect. Before we start talking about the ballot and how Millard Public
Schools are gonna change in the future we need to talk about the past. The places where things
started to go wrong. When Millard Public Schools started to be created Millard was the new popular
place to move. When building more and more house the property taxes will grow which will help
the schools receive more money. With new houses comes new families and causes student body

Zachary Taylor Compromise Of 1850
Zachary Taylor, elected in 1849, only served sixteen months in office as president of the United
States. Zachary Taylor was a commemorated war general for his roles within the War of 1812, the
Black Hawk War, Seminole Wars, and the Mexican War. Yet, it was only after the Mexican War did
he get public recognition and received a nomination by the Whig Party for president. Taylor never
officially finished his education and never seemed to particularly care for politics. Besides his own
election, he had never voted and he did not even vote for himself. Taylor was a peculiar candidate,
he had no political experience whatsoever and to be potentially be a president shocked many.
Fortunately for him, former president Martin Van Buren caused a split of votes between himself and
Lewis Cass. He also happened to be slave owner, which appealed to many Southerners. It wasn't
until he was elected that his ideals were revealed. Due to his time with the army, he had a strong
nationalist ideology as his main goal was to preserve the unity of the Union. Taylor supported
slavery, yet the idea of expanding slavery was not apart of his agenda. ... Show more content on

A Neglected Anniversary Of The New York Evening Mail
Journalism has held an important role in society since the seventeenth century; people have
depended on journalists to provide new and important information concerning a wide variety of
topics. This dependency has led to a great deal of trust in journalists and their word and allowed for
journalists to publish what they please. Mencken took advantage of the people's trust when he
published the article "A Neglected Anniversary" in the New York Evening Mail. Mencken created
his own history of the bathtub and released it to the public in 1917. The manner in which the article
is written completely deceived the readers; many truly believed Mencken's account was true, and the
story was believed for quite some time, even after Mencken revealed the truth. The developing trust
in journalism and a journalist's word during the early twentieth century created for the instant
acceptance and longevity in belief of Mencken's hoax. As previously stated, the hoax began with the
publication of the article "A Neglected Anniversary" in 1917, which was reprinted in 1926 in the
article "The Bathtub Fable That Caused a Furore;" Mencken stated that the bathtub was considered a
health hazard and the use of them was frowned upon until President Fillmore installed the first
bathtub in the White House. The hoax gained nation wide publicity when newspapers, including The
Philadelphia Inquirer, began publishing "Rise of the Bathtub," which was a summary of Mencken's
original article. Mencken finally

Close to the table where Karolina and Anna sat down, several men were standing in a semicircle

Young ladies and gentlemen began to dance and swirl around the center of the ball room while
Karolina and her friend were approached by two distinguished ladies. They made their introductions

Gap Five Forces
Five Forces Model is a framework used in the analysis of industry structure and profitability. This
model evaluates the ability of company to assess their standing in the industry. Understanding the
industries is essential for any firm to be successful. This model evaluates the risk of entry by
potential competitors; rivalry among established companies; substitute products; bargaining power
of buyers and bargaining power of suppliers.

This gives Gap Inc. power to lower the production cost and it allows Gap to be responsive to quick
changes in fashion trends.
Bargaining Power of Buyers
Since there are various competitors and substitutes in the apparel industry, buyers have variety
products that they can choose. Consumer's switching costs therefore are low as there are large
among of different brand name in the market, such as Target, Wal–Mart, Abercrombie & Fitch
and J.Crew etc. Hence, companies have to work hard to retain the consumers through differentiation
of their products or cost leadership. For instance, majority of buyers were willing to pay for Gap's
moderately priced clothing. On the average, the price of the products which produced by Gap Inc.'s
was lower than Abercrombie & Fitch, such as the price range of man's tee was US$30–$40
while Gap offered US $ 19.5–29.5 for the same type of products. Consumers therefore have some
power but not high in apparel industry, due to the low switching costs.
In clothing industry, risk of rivalry among existing firms and threat of substitute products are high;
bargaining power of buyers are moderate; threat of new entrants and bargaining power of suppliers
are low.

the next four years. Millard Fillmore was born on January 7th, 1800 in Cayuga County, New York in
a log cabin as the second oldest of nine children. At the age of 15, Fillmore was apprenticed to a

James K. Polk And Manifest Destiny
James K. Polk was elected as president of the United States in 1848 and with him he brought a
determination to expand territory more than any other president had before. In his one term
administration he expanded the country by two–thirds. Polks hunger for more land resulted in a war
with Mexico over Texas which evoked lots of opposition from the Whig party. The idea of Manifest
Destiny was germinating throughout Democrats everywhere, countering the Whig ideology of "true
republicanism". They believed "A nation cannot simultaneously devote its energies to the absorption
of others' territories and the improvement of its own," (pg, 49). Polk ignored this belief and soon
John C. Fremont was declaring California independent and Stephen Watts Kearny was leading his
army to several victories south of the Rio Grande. Nicholas Trist was able to get Mexico to sign the
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, recognizing the Rio Grande boundary of Texas and ceding New
Mexico and upper Californian to the US. Now that this triumph of Manifest Destiny was complete,
the question of expanding slavery to the newly acquired territories arose. Polk assumed there would
not be slavery there because it would simply not work in the natural conditions of the lands but
southerners strongly disagreed. Northern congressmen tried to pass a resolution known as the
Wilmot Proviso to exclude slavery from the new territory, extremely infuriating southerners and
dividing the parties into a conflict of sections.

Perry Letter To Japan Analysis
If your imperial majesty is not satisfied that it would be safe altogether to abrogate the ancient laws
which for bid foreign trade, they might be suspended for five or ten years, so as to try the
experiment. If it does not prove as beneficial as was hoped, the ancient laws can be restored. The
United States often limit their treaties with foreign states to a few years, and then renew them or not,
as they please.
Explanation:
The passage was from a letter made from President Millard Fillmore's office, telling Commodore

vessels. For a time, Japanese officials refused to speak with Perry, but eventually they accepted
letters from U.S. President Millard Fillmore, making the United States the first Western nation to
establish relations with Japan since it was declared closed to foreigners in 1683.
After giving Japan time to consider the establishment of external relations, Perry returned to Tokyo
in March 1854, and on March 31 signed the Treaty of Kanagawa, which opened Japan to trade with
the United States, and thus the West. In April 1860, the first Japanese diplomats to visit a foreign
power reached Washington, D.C., and remained in the U.S. capital for several weeks discussing
expansion of trade with the United States.
Explanation:
In the passage above,we can read that Perry's whole intension of entering Japan was to create trade
with Feudal Japan. This was because America were supposedly the first nation to enter trade and
relations with them,in which if they were to enter the treaty,America could take heaps of resources

Frank Lloyd Wright and his incorporation of the environment in his "textile block" houses
Frank Lloyd Wright was one of the most influential designers of modern architecture and design. He
was born June 8, 1867, in Richland Center, Wisconsin. He studied at the University of Wisconsin in
the field of engineering because courses in architecture were not available at the school. In 1887,
Wright moved to Chicago were he became a draftsman for Joseph Lyman Silsbee, who was a
famous Mid–western architect. While working for Silsbee, Wright designed his first building. Later
in that same year, Wright became a designer at the firm of Alder and Sullivan. Wright soon became
their chief draftsman. Louis Sullivan, one of the partners at the firm, had a profound influence upon
Wright's work. Wright was forced to leave the firm of Alder and Sullivan because of his "bootleg"
homes. People were at first opposed to his new and different approach to architecture and design. In
1893, he began his own practice. Wright soon began to design and build houses of his own that
reflected Louis Sullivan's influence. Wright's designs also revealed his independent talent and
nature.

2. During his time as president, Taylor leaned toward not expanding slavery into the new territories
and allowed California to be admitted as a free state. He also said that New Mexico should make its
own decision about slavery in their state constitution. This infuriated the South because it would
upset the free and slave state balance. Many states threatened succession which Taylor strongly
opposed and threated to hang anyone with such conspiracies. A Compromise was proposed by
Henry Clay to bring territorial laws for Utah and New Mexico which had nothing about banning
slavery. Taylor opposed this but died and his successor signed the compromise into law. Taylor also

policy was persuading one of the justices to agree with the South during the Dred Scott case.
Another important domestic policy was regarding "Bleeding Kansas." Buchanan wanted to accept
Kansas as a slave state. However, after many people were angry, Buchanan had to allow people to
revote and Kansas ended up joining as a free state.
3. During Buchanan's presidency, he was very focused on Cuba. Buchanan wanted to annex Cuba,
even though republicans opposed it. Buchanan had William Walker arrested for setting up a
dictatorship in Nicaragua, however, Walker was released. Buchanan also dealt with a conflict with
Great Britain. He used the navy and armed forces to get Britain to stop interfering in Central
America. After a few attempts, he managed to get Britain to stand down.

Building Houses For Needy Families
My grandfather gave me a hammer and nails as a small child and encouraged me to build whatever I
wanted, which began my love for building and working with my hands. This is why I was
immediately attracted to the idea of building houses for needy families through Habitat for
Humanity. Habitat for Humanity ("Habitat") is a non–profit organization that helps build homes for
people who can 't afford a home on their own. Habitat for Humanity believes in "building hope,
building homes and building better futures" ("Habitat Cleveland County"). Habitat partners with
volunteers who share the same goals of helping others create better communities around the world.
The goal is to help families have a place they can call home. Habitat for Humanity is an
international organization that was created by Millard and Linda Fuller in 1976 ("The History").
Millard was struggling in his life with what was important to him, which is what lead him to search
for a greater purpose. Therefore, Millard and his family sold all of their possessions, donated the
money and moved to a Christian community called Koinonia Farm ("The History"). This is where
his Christian faith led him to start building homes for low–income people who were trying but
couldn't quite afford to build a home of their own. Millard and Koinonia Farm owner, Clarence
Jordan, developed the idea of providing housing to families with no profit and no interest loans.
With his new idea of "partnership housing," Fuller and his

Jimmy John's Case
Problem: The Jimmy John's located at Stone and Fillmore St. has a very high turnover rate. Jimmy
John's in general has a high turnover rate. This means that employees are not committed to the job

They believed in commerce and manufacturing lead to a better life for all Americans. Then again in
1836 Fillmore ran for Congress as a Whig and won.4 Alike his first term as a New York
assemblyman, he was quiet in his first term in Congress but began making a name for himself when
he returned to Congress for a second term in 1837.
After the election of 1838, a dispute in the House of Representatives arose as five congressmen from
New Jersey were elected. The outcome would determine whether the Whigs or Democrats would
have a majority over the House. During this time period, Millard Fillmore gave some of the most
important, persuading, and passionate speeches of his political career. During the same time, there
was a battle on tariffs, the tax on imported goods. Fillmore devoted himself to preserving the high
tariffs that were in effect at that time, but also wanted to keep President John Tyler in political
trouble since he believed that Tyler had betrayed the Whig party. Fillmore accomplished both feats
with great political skill.
As the presidential election of 1848 approached, the Whigs knew the support of their southern allies.
Many of their allies were large plantation owners and also had an abundant amount of slaves. When
Zachary Taylor was chosen to represent the Whig party, many antislavery delegates believed that the

Japan During The Meiji Period
From the early to mid 1800s, the United States expanded rapidly. With this expansion, the United
States sought out new areas for trade commerce. With Britain and other countries heavily involved
in China, the U.S. searched for another of trade within the region. President Millard Fillmore
dispatched Commodore Matthew C. Perry with a letter demanding Japan to open their ports for
commerce. Upon the first arrival, Americans were great with a completely new experience for
people. Some people considered found the Japanese's culture to be repulsive while others were very
fascinated. This paper discusses the experiences of two Americans who visited Japan during the
Meiji Period compared to initial experiences. There were numerous reasons why the United States
had an interest in forming diplomatic relations with Japan. The opening of China's ports for
commerce along with the new acquisition of a California made the United States want to expand its
influence in the world. One of the most abundant resources needed was coal. With steam ships
replacing sailing ships, the United States had to establish a coaling station for refuel. With the heavy
influence of the British over in China, Japan made for the perfect geographic location. America was
involved in whaling for their oil.
Prior to Commodore's Expedition to Japan, there were preconceptions of the type of people they
were. American sailors left stranded on the island of Japan were typically imprisoned. This

  • 1. Analysis Of Bill Graham, A Holocaust Survivor Turned... Within industry there is revolution. Innovation for development and a burning desire for further progression must be realized or risk of failure increases exponentially. Does consistent hard work not correlate with well earned success? Does perseverance parallel evolution? The music industry is not impervious to failure and its institutes must evolve to survive in an ever–changing world of technological advancements. These advancements are utilized and implemented industry wide, including via event promotion to solidify the future of music as a whole. Event marketing, albeit not a "modern term", has proved vital to the music industry time and time again as it constantly evolves as the music industry business model is redefined. Event marketing and promotion has been defined and consistently redefined as use of technologies upturn. Bill Graham, a Holocaust survivor turned impresario, paved the way for modern music event promoters at the forefront of the promotion scene in the 1960s. First starting in theatre, he voices the difficulties he had promoting the Mime Troupe from the start: "Driving the truck down to the Palo Alto and putting up the posters and selling the tickets. Taking the show down and reloading the truck. I'd get home at like 2A.M.." Here, a tough start proved to be the framework of Graham's career. Handbills, postcards and posters were just a few of the marketing materials Graham used to promote his events. He commissioned artists within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Civil War Analysis The Civil War, known by many as one of the most tumultuous times in our country's history is one of the most crucial wars that the United States has ever participated in. The reason for this is that the country was not at war with an enemy from another country but within itself. With the many years of conflict between the northern union states and the southern confederacy states and with the Union's victory over the confederate south, it has been known as one of the most infamous wars of United States History. This war also proclaimed the crucial significance of six presidents from states that represented both the Union and Confederacy and the effect their political pursuits had on the Civil War. These Presidents were Abraham Lincoln, Martin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Buchanan did not help himself with Northerners when he supported an act that made Kansas a slave state called the Lecompton Constitution. Buchanan died in 1868. –Lincoln The final president, but not the least known, is Mr. Penny himself, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States. He was the President who ended the Civil War on May 9, 1865. Abe Lincoln was a very trusted, intelligent, and self–taught kid; through self–teaching, Lincoln even became a lawyer. As president of the Union, Lincoln had to lead the North in order to defeat the Southern Confederacy. On January 1, 1863, Lincoln issued his Emancipation Proclamation after the Union's Victory at the "Battle of Antietam." Lincoln also initiated several acts to pay for the high costs of the war such as The Revenue Act of 1861, The Morrill act of 1862, and the Homestead Act, which was also passed in 1862. Abraham Lincoln met his death on April 14, 1865. He was attending a play at the Ford's Theatre in Washington D.C., and was shot in the head by John Wilkes Booth. Booth sided with the Confederates. • 18. Millard Fillmore Major Accomplishments Millard Fillmore Millard Fillmore was the 13th president of the United States, taking over the presidency after Zachary Taylor died in office. As a result, he was the second vice president to be the president. His term lasted from 1850 to 1853 and he was the last Whig party president in office. Millard Fillmore was known for being modest, even declining an honorary degree from Oxford University, saying he had nothing to deserve it. Although he was more of a accidental president, Fillmore did achieve some accomplishments during his administration that are widely known today. The early years of Millard Fillmore were uneventful and filled with strenuous work. He was born in Locke, New York on January 7th, 1800. His parents were Nathaniel and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Zachary Taylor died suddenly in office in 1850, Fillmore took over the presidency without a vice president. Thus, he was left to solve the conflicts that had arose between the North and South. One of the solutions was proposed by Henry Clay, called the Compromise of 1850. Under the Compromise of 1850, California entered the Union as a free state, the Fugitive Slave Act was put into effect, the slave trade in Washington D.C. was abolished, the border dispute between New Mexico and Texas was settled, and the territories from the Mexican–American War were left up to the people to decide whether they wanted to be a slave or free state. Fillmore supported the compromise wholeheartedly and hoped it would preserve the country and ultimately prevent a civil war. It did not prevent the civil war, yet the compromise prolonged the war for another ten years. Additionally, towards the end of his administration, he sent a fleet of ships lead by Matthew Perry to Japan to force trade relations. Once his term ended in 1854, he ran for a second term in the election of 1856 with the Know–Nothing Party, an anti–immigrant political party but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. The Political Career of Daniel Webster Essay The Political Career of Daniel Webster Daniel Webster contributed a large potion of the Civil War. To begin, he was born in Salisbury, New Hampshire on January 18, 1782. His parents were farmers so many people didn't know what to expect of him. Even though his parents were farmers, he still graduated from Dartmouth College in 1801. After he learned to be a lawyer, Daniel Webster opened a legal practice in Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1807. Webster quickly became an experienced and very good lawyer and a Federalist party leader. In 1812, Webster was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives because of his opposition to the War of 1812, which had crippled New England's shipping trade. After two more terms in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Replying to South Carolina's Robert Hayne in a Senate debate in 1830, Webster triumphantly defended the Union states by a very powerful but short speech. He said, "Liberty and Union, now and forever, one and inseparable," made him a favorite and made him well known among many people worldwide. Webster and President Andrew Jackson joined forces in 1833 to try to change South Carolina's attempt to nullify the tariff, but Webster and the Whigs battled him on other issues including his attack on the National Bank. Webster ran for the presidency in the election of 1836 as one of the three Whig candidates, but he mostly only Massachusetts voted for him so he lost badly because no one else voted for him. For the rest of his career he tried very hard to get to the presidency and ran in many elections hoping to get his shot at the office, but it never happened and he failed every time. In 1841, Daniel Webster came close to his idea of President but was only named secretary. President William Henry Harrison appointed him to this position. When he got killed in April 1841, John Tyler was brought to the presidency. In September 1841, all the Whigs resigned from the cabinet except Webster. He remained to settle an argument with Great Britain having to do with the Maine– Canada boundary and he wanted to finish the Webster–Ashburn Treaty, which he finally did in 1842. The central purpose of writing this Case Study Analyses on The Gap, Inc. is to identify and isolate key issues and their underlying implications and offer practical solutions and plans for implementing those solutions. This will be done by highlighting the social influences that influence the Gap, Inc. marketing strategy, segmentation strategies with respect to distinct retail markets, and positioning strategies that can be used or changed in a retail setting, as requested in the course assignment (as cited in the course module). The unique opportunities this presents to the buying public (convenience, wider range of products, etc.) have created additional streams of revenue for the company (Etzel, et.al., 2004). Coupled with a new advertising campaign starring a variety of hot actors, the company attempted to recapture the magic of a previous award–winning campaign called "Individuals of Style" (Etzel, et.al., 2004). It's really all about getting back to the basics for this company. Drexler said, "I believe Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic are now in a position to offer the product assortments our customers expect and that reflect what our brands have always stood for. The time is right for me to move on, and for the company to bring in new leadership to take the business forward." (Etzel, et.al, 2004). With Paul Pressler now at the helm, the company seems to be moving in the right direction. Since Gap already has an established reputation and recognition, Pressler can concentrate on paring down the product line and concentrating on what made Gap successful in the first place. According to Harry Bernard, retail consultant, the Gap moved away from the fundamentals of researching the customers demands, maintaining quality, and keeping Wall Street expectations in check

  • 39. Observation Reflection Of The Millard Public School Board... On October 4, I attended the Millard Public School board meeting for my Government observation analysis. The meeting was held in the Millard West auditorium. At the meeting I saw lots of parents of kids who were concerned about their child's education. Unfortunately Millard schools have been doing some budget cuts to save money to pay back all the money they borrowed and to make the schools better. In the years 2010–11, 44 teachers and administration positions, 7 custodian positions, and 3 nursing positions have been eliminated. Those positions are on a list with twelve other budget cuts. Millard Public School board is already starting a list of cuts for 2017–18 if they don't make a change. At the meeting I learned about the following that I want to talk about: budget cuts, ballot ,and who will this ballot affect. Before we start talking about the ballot and how Millard Public Schools are gonna change in the future we need to talk about the past. The places where things started to go wrong. When Millard Public Schools started to be created Millard was the new popular place to move. When building more and more house the property taxes will grow which will help the schools receive more money. With new houses comes new families and causes student body growth also helping the schools get money. Fast forward to 2017, Millard has been around for a while now there are new districts showing up like Elkhorn and Gretna. With these new districts building that building process has ... Zachary Taylor was a commemorated war general for his roles within the War of 1812, the Black Hawk War, Seminole Wars, and the Mexican War. Yet, it was only after the Mexican War did he get public recognition and received a nomination by the Whig Party for president. Taylor never officially finished his education and never seemed to particularly care for politics. Besides his own election, he had never voted and he did not even vote for himself. Taylor was a peculiar candidate, he had no political experience whatsoever and to be potentially be a president shocked many. Fortunately for him, former president Martin Van Buren caused a split of votes between himself and Lewis Cass. He also happened to be slave owner, which appealed to many Southerners. It wasn't until he was elected that his ideals were revealed. Due to his time with the army, he had a strong nationalist ideology as his main goal was to preserve the unity of the Union. Taylor supported slavery, yet the idea of expanding slavery was not apart of his agenda. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 47. A Neglected Anniversary Of The New York Evening Mail Journalism has held an important role in society since the seventeenth century; people have depended on journalists to provide new and important information concerning a wide variety of topics. This dependency has led to a great deal of trust in journalists and their word and allowed for journalists to publish what they please. Mencken took advantage of the people's trust when he published the article "A Neglected Anniversary" in the New York Evening Mail. Mencken created his own history of the bathtub and released it to the public in 1917. The manner in which the article is written completely deceived the readers; many truly believed Mencken's account was true, and the story was believed for quite some time, even after Mencken revealed the truth. The developing trust in journalism and a journalist's word during the early twentieth century created for the instant acceptance and longevity in belief of Mencken's hoax. As previously stated, the hoax began with the publication of the article "A Neglected Anniversary" in 1917, which was reprinted in 1926 in the article "The Bathtub Fable That Caused a Furore;" Mencken stated that the bathtub was considered a health hazard and the use of them was frowned upon until President Fillmore installed the first bathtub in the White House. The hoax gained nation wide publicity when newspapers, including The Philadelphia Inquirer, began publishing "Rise of the Bathtub," which was a summary of Mencken's original article. • 92. James K. Polk And Manifest Destiny James K. Polk was elected as president of the United States in 1848 and with him he brought a determination to expand territory more than any other president had before. In his one term administration he expanded the country by two–thirds. Polks hunger for more land resulted in a war with Mexico over Texas which evoked lots of opposition from the Whig party. The idea of Manifest Destiny was germinating throughout Democrats everywhere, countering the Whig ideology of "true republicanism". They believed "A nation cannot simultaneously devote its energies to the absorption of others' territories and the improvement of its own," (pg, 49). Polk ignored this belief and soon John C. Fremont was declaring California independent and Stephen Watts Kearny was leading his army to several victories south of the Rio Grande. Nicholas Trist was able to get Mexico to sign the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, recognizing the Rio Grande boundary of Texas and ceding New Mexico and upper Californian to the US. Now that this triumph of Manifest Destiny was complete, the question of expanding slavery to the newly acquired territories arose. Polk assumed there would not be slavery there because it would simply not work in the natural conditions of the lands but southerners strongly disagreed. Northern congressmen tried to pass a resolution known as the Wilmot Proviso to exclude slavery from the new territory, extremely infuriating southerners and dividing the parties into a conflict of sections. ... During his time as president, Taylor leaned toward not expanding slavery into the new territories and allowed California to be admitted as a free state. He also said that New Mexico should make its own decision about slavery in their state constitution. This infuriated the South because it would upset the free and slave state balance. Many states threatened succession which Taylor strongly opposed and threated to hang anyone with such conspiracies. A Compromise was proposed by Henry Clay to bring territorial laws for Utah and New Mexico which had nothing about banning slavery. Taylor opposed this but died and his successor signed the compromise into law. Taylor also had a strong stance on the Texas/ New Mexico border dispute and threatened to ... Building Houses For Needy Families My grandfather gave me a hammer and nails as a small child and encouraged me to build whatever I wanted, which began my love for building and working with my hands. This is why I was immediately attracted to the idea of building houses for needy families through Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity ("Habitat") is a non–profit organization that helps build homes for people who can 't afford a home on their own. Habitat for Humanity believes in "building hope, building homes and building better futures" ("Habitat Cleveland County"). Habitat partners with volunteers who share the same goals of helping others create better communities around the world. The goal is to help families have a place they can call home. Habitat for Humanity is an international organization that was created by Millard and Linda Fuller in 1976 ("The History"). Millard was struggling in his life with what was important to him, which is what lead him to search for a greater purpose. Therefore, Millard and his family sold all of their possessions, donated the money and moved to a Christian community called Koinonia Farm ("The History"). This is where his Christian faith led him to start building homes for low–income people who were trying but couldn't quite afford to build a home of their own. Millard and Koinonia Farm owner, Clarence Jordan, developed the idea of providing housing to families with no profit and no interest loans. The Fillmore store in particular has a lot of employees that have been there for 1–2 years. These employees are the ones I was able to survey and get better insights into the situation. Meanwhile, legislatures in Northern states passed "personal liberty" laws which forbade state judges to assist slaveholders and extended to blacks the right to trial by jury in these disputes. Unfortunately, by trying to please everyone, Millard Fillmore, it seemed, could please no one. The Whig Party began to fall apart from the strain of all the conflicting points of view on slavery.
