Analysing
Media Survey
Kellie Nee and James Wright
Question 1
 This question was important for our
research because we wanted to see if
our ideas were what people wanted to
see in the music video. The top
answer that people chose was
‘Storyline’. This was a helpful answer
for us because the storyline in our
video is one of the main focuses and
an important element. This answer
was over 50% of the answers so we
thought that keeping the storyline as
one of the main elements in our video
would be suitable for our music video.
Question 2
 This question asked if seeing the
artist included in the video was
important. Over 80% of the
answers said yes and the rest
said that they don’t mind. I think
that this will work well for our
music video because seeing the
artist in the storyline of pop music
videos is something that is very
common and a technique used to
make sure that the fans will watch
the video and enjoy it as well.
Question 3
 We decided to ask this question
because pop music videos can be
very varied and the majority tend to
be realistic but a lot also can be un
realistic to show off a certain style.
Over 60% of the answers chose
that they prefer music videos to be
realistic. This will reflect well with
out own music video because we
chose the realistic story line. We
want to make sure that we keep
peoples attention throughout the
whole video so reflecting on these
answers are important for our
planning process
Question 4
 This question would be beneficial for
us because we allowed the
interviewees to write their own answer.
We wanted to see what people would
enjoy watching in music videos and
looking through the answers has
allowed our own ideas to develop. We
will take a lot of these answers into
consideration when planning our video.
For example; ‘Behind the scenes of the
artist in the music video’, ‘Interesting
Storyline’, ‘Celebrity lifestyles’, ‘People
having fun and a good time’…
Question 5
 We also decided to ask what people
don’t like to see in music videos as
this was an important answer to
look through. The answers are quite
varied in this question but we were
able to see common answer and
understand the things that people
don’t like to see in pop music
videos. We chose to make the
questions as specific as we can and
specific to our genre. Some of the
common answers in this question
were; ‘False/unrealistic editing’,
‘long videos’, ‘dark and unhappy’,
‘too many effects’…
Question 6
 This question was important for
deciding what to include in a digi-
pack. We wanted to get more of an
understanding of what people buy
and make our ideas realistic for the
digi-pack. Some of the top answers
were Albums, Tickets and Magazines
and merchandise were very similar.
We can take small details from this
answer to allow us to create some
ideas of what to include in the digi-
pack. We want to make sure that it
will be realistic and what people will
enjoy.
Question 7
 We thought that we would ask this
question because when we were
planning our ideas, we thought that
some scenes would link to the lyrics
but some wouldn’t. Over 70% of the
answers said that people ‘don’t mind’
if the lyrics link to the storyline or not.
We thought that the answers given
would be important for our planning
process as we wanted to film a video
including footage that people would
want to see. We will use this answer
as part of our research.
Question 8
 We decided to ask people what
current pop music videos they liked
because we could use this as
research and see what elements of
the video were appealing. Once we
gathered all the answers, we
researched into the videos that
people chose and used this
information to help us with our
planning process. Some of the main
videos that we looked at from the
answers that we relevant were;
‘Ellie Goulding- On My Mind’, ‘Little
Mix- Love Me Like You’ and ‘Demi
Lovato- Confident’.
Current Music Video Answers:
Question 9
 We decided to ask the gender of the
people that answered because we
wanted to see who the main
audience would be and which
gender were giving the answers that
we would use for our planning and
research. This question is quite
important for our research because
we have chose a genre that is
largely female based and our ideas
for our video is female based as
well.
Question 10
 This question also links to the
previous question because we
wanted to find out about the
audience and what that age group
wanted to see. Over 705 of the
people who answered were in the
age group 17-20 and this fits in
really well with the genre we have
chosen and also the people being
used in our music video. This is an
important question for the survey
because we want to make sure that
our content is appealing to the right
audience.
Overall Summary
 The majority of the people that answered our survey we ages between 17-20 and the
majority were also female. This is an important aspect for us because we chose pop as
our genre for our music video and the answers we got from our survey link in really well
with the specific genre. We want to make sure that when we are planning ideas for the
music video, we include content that the audience will want to watch. From making this
survey, we have been able to gather more answers which will help develop our own
ideas. We can see what people want to see in music videos and also what people are
getting tired of seeing.
 Finding out what current music videos people enjoy watching has also been very
beneficial for us because we have been able to gather more research and find out what
elements of music videos are popular.
