Analysing a contents page 1
1. Analysing a contents page
A contents page is found in magazines
and newspapers
Where it basically shows what Is in the
magazine or newspaper most use the
numbering process for those who are
reading it to search out their favourite
article/page. I am analysing the
contents page of a magazine that is
called ‘academy magazine contents’
very basic and easy to understand.
Once you set your sights on the
contents page the first thing you come
to see is the three images down the left hand side of the
page with numbers on them so you can go an read the
story on that particular page and this gives the reader a
small preview as to what they are going to read. It is
important to include a contents page as it increases the
magazines likeability and makes it easier to understand
and navigate from page to page
The layout of the cover page is simple, it has topics
going down the right hand side labelling what is in each
page and what topic it is under, they are labelled with
numbers for what page they can be found on which
makes it easier to find what you are looking for instead
of flicking through pages of rubbish you can just go
straight to your desired page. They laid out the page so
well it’s not flooded with useless information, it has a
few eye catching photos to attract the readers attention
and the writing on the right its colour labelled, the page
2. number is green and the contents of the page is
labelled in blue and this gives us an idea of their house
style, it also seems to be quite formal in its appearance
from perfectly placed pictures to the information of the
page being laid out appropriately and clearly to make
reading this magazine an enjoyable experience. The
images on the page are of pupils or related to pupils in
some way which makes the magazine more relatable to
its readers. The font in the magazine is laid out using
plain writing that is easily understood by all readers as
some may find it difficult to read if for example they
used joint writing which can sometimes be difficult to
understand which would be a major mistake in itself
which is why they stuck to a formal layout which
makes the whole magazine experience an enjoyable
one.
The mode of address of this magazine its very formal in
appearance and speaks to its readers as adults, which
implies to the students that they are seen as adults. The
niche audience is aimed at the pupils of the school
(Teens) and the teachers of the school as well as the
parents, which gives it a wide range audience which
would make the magazine a more popular choice for
students and adults.
