My Religion Essay
My Religion
What religion am I? In my life, I have been told many things about my religion. My mother is a
Roman Catholic, while my father is Jewish. I have learned about both religions, and I have tried to
practice both as best I could, but I am now faced with the decision; which one am I? Christians believe
that Jesus is both God and man, incarnation of God, and man gives man two natures, physical and
divined that they are united in one person. Thus the mystery of God becoming a human being, Jesus,
and suffered and died, and Mary (Jesus mother) was the mother of God. God resolved himself to
mankind in 3 ways, as God the father, God the sun and the Holy Spirit. From this we can see that
Christianity is based on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His or her life is structured from birth to death, through, the sacraments weekly worship, daily prayer

Judaism is the complex expression of a religious community, a way of life as well as a set of basic
beliefs and values, which is separated in patterns of action, social order, and culture as well as in
religious statements and concepts. The ideal is to remember God in everything one does, through
prayer and keeping the commandments. There are many spiritual practices that the Jewish people
follow as a reminder of their faith and as a way to engage all the senses in awareness of God. Some of
these scared practices include: circumcision, Sabbath, eating kosher foods, and Bar Mitzvah. Of all of
the commandments in Judaism, the brit milah, is probably the one most universally observed. It is
commonly referred to as a bris. Even the most seculars of Jews, who observe no other part of Judaism,
almost always observe these laws. Boys are ritually circumcised when they are eight days old, to
honor the seal of God s commandment to Abraham. A person who is uncircumcised suffers the penalty
of kareit, spiritual elimination. Sabbath is the most important ritual observance in Judaism. It is
primarily a day of rest and spiritual enrichment. The Jewish Sabbath runs from sunset Friday night to
sunset Saturday night. Observant Jewish families begin the Sabbath eve with a special Friday night
dinner. The woman of the house lights candles to bring in

Manila amendments to the STCW Convention – as an IMO...
Fatigue is still considered as a significant contributory factor to many incidents in the shipping
industry despite of legislation concerning seafarers hours of work and rest that has been in force for
many years; overall enforcement measures have generally been ineffective. (OCIMF, 2012). IMO
describes fatigue as a State of feeling tired, weary, or sleepy that results from prolonged mental or
physical work, exposure to harsh environment, or loss of sleep which can lead to the impairment of
performance and to the reduction of alertness (IMO, 2001). To provide a legal framework and address

coverage of most causes, they have been categorized into 4 general factors: Crew specific Factors;
Management Factors (ashore and aboard ship); Ship specific Factors; Environmental Factors. Even if
all of these factors can be considered with the same weighting coefficient in determination of level of

Detroit Is Not A Blank Canvas
Some people believe that Detroit is comparable to a blank canvas. A place where an opportunity is
lurking right around the corner. They imagine it as a deserted place, in which a businessman can create
anything they dream of. However, the harsh reality is, Detroit is not a blank canvas. It has been
splattered with an era of prominence, scribbled on with the invention of the automobile, and engraved
with a history of racism and corruption. Although much of Detroit s glory has been stripped away,
there are still people who exist in the city s remnants. Actual people, with actual families, actual
homes, and actual lives. When outsiders talk about the city s revival, they are often forgetting about
these people, or the actual citizens of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many factors to point blame at when considering Detroit s failure. A city that was dependent
on manufacturing cars was bound to flounder when the factories moved elsewhere. Tensions among
races became prevalent throughout the city, ending with whites moving into the suburbs. Corruption
consumed the city s government, and the leaders led the city into the ground. The aftermath of these
actions have been thrown upon the people who stayed in the city of Detroit. These people are living in
unsafe conditions due to the fact crime rates are so high, and the police presence is so scarce. The
children are apart of a failing education system; the foundation of the buildings aren t up to public
health code, they have limited resources, and a lack of teachers willing to work. When talking about
the future of Detroit, where does one see the future for these people? Why is there a new hockey arena
being built, while the deteriorating schools are being left to fall apart? Large sums of money are being
poured into the city s assets, but the investors are forgetting the most important asset of Detroit, it s
people.
When talking about the endless opportunities Detroit has to offer, one common plan is the idea of
Detroit becoming a tourist city. Investors view downtown as a diverse entertainment district, with an
array of theatres, museums, casinos

A Literary Analysis Of Esperanza Rising By Pam Muñoz Ryan
Literary Analysis of Esperanza Rising To foreshadow events in books or to tell the meaning of a story,
authors often use symbolism. Symbolism uses people, places, or things that have their own meaning,
to express something different. The author of Esperanza Rising, Pam Muñoz Ryan, uses a certain fruit
or vegetable to symbolize events of emotions that occur in the chapter. Three chapters in Esperanza
Rising that represent an important part of the book are Los Higos, Las Cebollas, and Los Aquacates.
In Esperanza Rising, figs, onions, and avocados symbolize a new beginning, the acceptance of starting
anew, and the rewards followed after hardship. Los Higos, or figs, represent a new beginning, because
of Esperanza s journey through the fig orchard. Mama and Esperanza execute their plan, in which they
leave under the cover of darkness for California. During their trip, they walk through the fig orchard
separating El Rancho de las Roses and Señor Rodriquez s ranch. When Esperanza turned around at the
end of the fig orchard, She could see nothing behind her but a trail of splattered figs she had
resentfully smashed beneath her feet. (p.57) The smashed figs represent her old life disappearing,
therefore leading Esperanza to start over with a new beginning. Her walking through the fig orchard

Wisdom In Herman Hesse s Siddhartha
Herman Hesse s novel, Siddhartha, has many different themes woven throughout the book. They
range from love to self enlightenment to wisdom. The themes I will be focusing on are wisdom and
knowledge. Hesse shows throughout the book how Siddhartha comes to know these as two separate
things. Wisdom is what you learn by experiences, while knowledge is what you learn from others.
First, Siddhartha sets off to seek knowledge. Siddhartha s goal is to reach enlightenment and he seeks
his teachers and brahmin for help. Siddhartha believes if he gains enough knowledge he will find
peace within himself. His father s heart skipped joyously for this son who was quick to learn, who was
thirsty for knowledge (page 5). Through finding and learning all of this knowledge Siddhartha quickly
came to realize he was still thirsting for more. He went to live with the shramanas, but found even
with their knowledge he was still thirsty for more. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wisdom must come from with in and you can not be taught it. Siddhartha sets off on his own, to learn
the path of wisdom, through living the experiences of this world. He learns love by the hands of an
escort, and money by the hands of a merchant. Siddhartha is not fully satisfied with those experiences
and still has an empty void within him. When he comes to know the ferryman, he looks back on his
previous experiences and sees how much more of a wiser man he is now than he was before. Next,
Hesse shows how knowledge without wisdom can leave one extremely empty and thirsty for peace.
Siddhartha s best friend Govinda comes to love the Buddha and follow his ways. On his search for
peace, he believes learning the Buddha s ways will bring him to peace. When he is an old man and the
Buddha has died, he realizes how his knowledge has brought him no where close to peace because he
has no wisdom. He has had hardly any life experiences and only knows what he has

Application Of A Mechanical Wave Sound
Applications in medicine
Moreover, toxins pile up in the body, especially outside of the cells due to poor bio electric membrane
voltage, which makes it possible for the toxins to stick to the membrane. This activity inhibits the
natural flow of water into the cells as well as exit of nucleic waste out of the cells. As a result, the
functioning of the cells is compromised until the level whereby toxins penetrate the cell membranes
and thus reaching a level whereby the process is irreversible. Moreover, the body s design has many
organs that are attuned to the electromagnetic phenomena. For example, the brain produces
electromagnetic fields that are both different and separate from those produced by the heart; a
mechanical wave sound is vibrated by the tympanic membrane while the eyes record individual
photon packets. As such, the human body is actively involved in the production and control of
bioelectricity.
Bioelectromagnetism is used in medicine in detoxification whereby the application of
electromagnetism leads to the restoration of integrity to the actual membrane itself to return the cell to
its normal functioning by being selectively permeable. This leads to proper processing of toxins for
elimination whereby the kidneys and liver start to remove more toxins and thereby reducing the
overall toxin load in the body. One major application happened in 1892 when Nikola Tesla met with
Paul Oudin leading to the production of the violet ray , a device that used

Organized Greek Games, By William J. Baker
In the article Organized Greek Games , William J. Baker s goal is to educate readers on the differences
between the ancient Greek Olympic Games, and today s modern Olympic Games. William Baker not
only explains the physical aspects of the games , but the relationship between the Greek religion and
the Olympic games as well. William Baker s article follows his thesis well; which was, Virtually
everyone knows that the modern Olympics are patterned on the Olympic Games of ancient Greece,
yet few people have more than a hazy understanding of the original Olympics .(article,pp58) William
Baker wrote the Organized Greek Games in chronological order. An example of Baker writing the
article chronologically, is when William Baker describes the Greek game s schedule, and the events
that were planned for each day in order. the duration of the festival was set at five days, with only two
and a half days devoted to the games themselves. the first day was given to religious ceremonies.
(article,pp61) In the Organized Greek Games William Baker quotes Socrates, the body must bear its
part in whatever man; and in all the services required from the body, it is of the utmost importance to
have it in the best possible condition. (pp.65) Baker got the information from primary sources. Some
other primary sources used in the article other than Socrates, are from Milo Crotan, Ancient
Philosophers, and Plato. (article,pp.65,66)

Consider The Lobster By David Foster Wallace Analysis
American Novelist, essayist and short story author David Foster Wallace uses his essay Consider the
Lobster to tell the reader about his thought provoking visit to the Maine Lobster Festival. Wallace
wrote this essay to show his thought process dealing with the moral ambiguity of cooking lobster, and
the research he did to further understand the subject. He primarily uses an informational tone with a
heavy emphasis on pathos. He does a fairly good job remaining unbiased and showing the
counterarguments.
Wallace was sent to the Maine Lobster Festival by Gourmet Magazine, he was tasked simply to write
about his experience there. He took this as an opportunity and decided that the risk he was taking in
posing this question to the readers of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following this point he points out that perhaps lobsters understand pain but they don t dislike it and
how pain is not distressing them (Wallace 63). He reinstates the fact that there is a clear difference in
pain as a purely neurological event from pain as actual suffering , the latter requiring an emotional
component (Wallace 36). Later on he states that this means that although lobster s experience pain it is
not a struggle based on discomfort but more of a preference. More akin to you preferring to sit in a
certain spot around the table. These are used to inform the reader of the physical aspects of the lobster
that affect the overall moral ambiguity of the subject.
In his closing statements he takes the time to throw some more thought provoking sentences in, calling
out a part of being a real gourmet (Wallace 64). Wallace wonders if future generations might look
back and see our current eating practices similarly to how we see tribal sacrifices today. I see this as
an extreme analogy but it has its use in this essay, it brings out the thought that perhaps we should take
a step back from our food and think about

Neil Postman; cultural critic, author, and teacher extraordinaire, spent his career warning and
educating about the role technology was beginning to play in society. He wrote all of his books,
articles, and speeches by hand and reportedly never met a computer or typewriter that he liked. He
also never published an academic journal article due to his belief that his ideas were meant to be read
by all, not exclusively a handful of scholars. In today s age of technological overload, just thirty years
after his most well known book Amusing Ourselves to Death, Neil Postman is revered as a prophet as
more and more of our media consumption becomes purely for entertainment purposes. According to

Structuralism eventually died with Titchener (Cherry, 2012). Victorian Thomas Brown proposed the
study of the mind as the basic framework for most scientific efforts. He believed that before any
science could be taken seriously, the brain must be studied. Not only the physicality of the brain, but
also the workings of the mind and how it thinks (Wee, 2005). With Brown s proposal, the majority of
serious psychologists would no longer ignore the real world implications of human experience and
action when dealing with the functioning of the mind. In 1885, Herbert Spencer published The
Principles of Psychology. Spencer had a strong background in biology and philosophy, therefore much
of his writings were based solely on speculation, observation, and philosophical ideals. Wee (2005),
One of Spencer s most famous phrases was survival of the fittest , which later formed the basis of a
controversial branch of psychology/philosophy called Social Darwinism (para. 4). Conclusion Since
the days of Greek and French philosophers and German physiologists, we have developed a sound

Regardless whether they are house pets or strays, animals provide a kinship by keeping humans in
touch with the world beyond themselves. Doaks even states that In order to dive into this book
completely, readers must be willing to travel beyond pastoral outdoor scenes. Due to the Great
Migration of Blacks from South to North, many African Americans grew up in or near cities with
harsh urban settings. Therefore, the poems born out of those experiences are landscape poems,
although they are not typically categorized as such. And in these urban areas insects, rodents and

Women, Gender Gap and Voting Behaviors
Women, Gender Gap and Voting Behaviors
By: Sarah Langenwalter
Women have always had so many different and interesting behavior patterns; whether they are
patterns at home, at work, or even at the polls. Choosing this topic was easy, women are very unique
about everything, and I was curious to see the differences in the way we vote compared to men, the
gender gap. With the help of peer reviewed articles and other research, I am planning to explain the
gender gap as well as other voting behaviors that women perform. The peer reviewed articles that I
chose will be discussed in the following order: The Gender Gap: When an Opinion Gap is not a Voting

Fifty one percent of the white women respondents and 48 percent of white men felt that Reaganomics
had made no difference to them personally (taUc .08), while two thirds of black women and 59
percent of black men surveyed felt that they had been personally hurt by the president s economic
program (taUc = .06) (Bennett, 619).
To summarize the conclusion to the first article: because of the topic in the Reagan election, research
cannot definitively show that it was a gender bloc when women voted. There are too many other
qualities that were present during this election such as: ethnicity, racial grouping and social class
(Bennett, 624). The second article, How Do Female Spouses Political Interests Affect Male Spouses
Views about a Women s Issue? written by Eiji Yamamura in the Atlantic Economic Journal in 2010,
unlike the first article where the research tried to prove a gender gap, is trying to prove that there is not
a gender gap. The main question of the research from this article is: How are an individual s political
views affected by the gender of family members or spouses? (Yamamura, 360). This researcher
believes that just like offspring have an effect on their parents and vice versa, so do married couples.
That is where gender gap comes into play; if spouses do have some sway on

The Importance Of Domestic Work
In modern capitalist societies, certain types of labor are given a higher economic and social capital.
Jobs that require traditionally feminine qualities, such as domestic work, are seen as less important
than jobs that promote masculine traits. This inherent devaluation of feminine qualities reflects on
those who often complete this work women. The work of women is made to be invisible through a
lack of legal protection and unpaid labor. Economical hierarchies and gendered work are further
reinforced through the association of this work with pre existing power differences between men and
women, and women from Global North and Global South. Women can be harmed by domestic work
as shown by Meshael Alayban, a Saudi Arabian Princess, who allegedly held 5 women against their
will to work as maids and confiscated their travel documents (Rokhy 2013: 1). Alayban was arrested
in July of 2013, but she was eventually released due to lack of evidence. The case, nonetheless,
exemplifies important issues surrounding women s work and oppression stemming from global
inequality. Through reinforced gender roles and divisions of wealth, women continue to take on a
disproportionate share of care work and a subordinate role in the domestic sphere.
Assumed gender roles affect women in both the professionally and within the home. The decreased
value of work pertaining to feminine traits is seen clearly through the gender pay gap and the salary of
different jobs. According to Melissa J. Gillis s

Setting Of The Most Dangerous Game
The setting that Richard Connell creates to The Most Dangerous Game is so important for the plot to
be believable. For instance, the story needs to be on an isolated island. If the short story was not on a
remote island than it would be very easy to escape from General Zaroff. So there would not be a story
to tell if his captives could get away easily. Since they are on an isolated island Zaroff does not have to

True! Nervous very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad?
In the story A Tell Tale Heart the narrator believes that the actions he takes throughout the whole story
are completely normal. The eye of the old man is what the narrator says possessed him to kill him.
The central idea that Poe is revolving around the main character is the ideas of guilt, obsession, and
madness. The author uses repetition to really exemplify that the narrator was obsessed with the eye of
the man. In the story A Tell Tale Heart the narrator is mad. In the very first paragraph one of the first
clues that proves this is when he says I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many
things in hell. He is imagining that he can hear everything around him. To really exemplify the idea
that he is mad the author uses repetition for this as well. Throughout the story the narrator asks the
reader multiple times if he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon
me, my blood ran cold the narrator was obsessed with the eye of the old man. He claims that is was
the eye that caused him to kill the old man. For 7 long nights the narrator would sneak into the room
of the old man at midnight and open a crevice in his lantern to see the eye of the old man. It took him
seven nights because every time he would see the old mans face his eyes were closed because he was
sleeping. He didn t hate the old man, he was fond of him the only thing that fueled the murder was his
vulture eye. On the eight night the narrator was sneaking into the room when he made a noise and the
old man heard him. He stood there silent for an hour and slowly he opened the lantern until a simple
dim ray, like the thread of the spider, shot from out the crevice and fell full upon the vulture eye .
When he say the eye it finally fueled him to kill the old man and that is what he

Taking a Look at Pranic Healing
Introduction
Pranic Healing was developed by Master Choa Kok Sui as a result of 20 yrs of research he developed
as an advanced energy healing system that facilitates deep relaxation and vibrant health for both
practitioners and recipients. It is based on the fundamental principles that the body is a self repairing
living entity that possesses the ability to heal itself and that the healing process is accelerated by
increasing this life force that is readily available from the sun, air and ground to address physical
emotional imbalances. ( What Is Pranic, 1995)

Loneliness In Catcher In The Rye
In the beginning of The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger brings up the motif of loneliness and depression
which Holden reveals to the reader while at Pencey Prep. For example while writing a essay for
Stradlater, he reflects on how after Allie, Holden s brother died, Holden slept in the garage, the night
he died and [he] broke all the god damn window. (39). This reaction to inflict pain on himself is
evidence that the loss triggered severe emotional disturbances. Holden isolates himself after a tragic
event proving Allie s death is the cause for his loneliness. Also, while alone in his dorm at Pencey
writing a composition for Stradlater his roommate, Holden couldn t think of a room or a house to

someone who he has a strong connection with, that she will make him less depressed shown by him
saying that she had sense. Also while Holden is in his hotel room in New York, after his prostitute

Holden isolated form someone who was close to him. Him attempting to talk to Allie shows how his
loneliness and depression was caused by his isolation because he wants to try to reconnect with Allie

depressed thinking about Phoebe and wanting to see

Weaknesses Of Democracy In Spain
Analyze the reasons for the weaknesses and collapse of democracy between 1918 and 1939 in Spain
Democracy was a relatively unknown political system for the Spanish. Instead, Spain was typically
ruled by a monarchy or dictatorship, having only experienced democracy for a year in the 1870s. It
was only in 1931, when Spain attempted to reintroduce democracy. Although, the Second Spanish
Republic did not last very long, due to it s poor environment. The lack of experience of working
within a democratic system, the polarization of the Spanish populace, a high degree of fragmentation
within the pole, and the substantial level of inequality in Spain during this time period were all key
weaknesses that led to the collapse of democracy in Spain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As a result of the recession, there was a large gap between the rich and the poor within Spain. Due to
this situation, the sustainability of democracy in Spain became questionable as the poor didn t trust the
wealthy and wanted to change things, creating a divide within Spain. The large structural barrier
between the two classes didn t allow the poor classes to move out of their wretched situation. Social
and economic structural problems were undoubtedly severe, the worst being the plight of the newly
two million landless farmworkers and their families, a plight made much more conflictive by the fact
that Spain was now a rapidly country with democratic mass mobilization. The low wages, limited
productivity and poor living conditions of four million more urban workers in the industry. This drove
them to want change in the form of democracy allowing them to have a say in their future. Although,
the obduracy of the conservative and the privileged, and the unwillingness of the main party of the
right, the CEDA, to accept the Republic and the readjustment of the wealth necessary to make
democracy work (Blinkhorn 37). Many historians have sought to criticize the attempt to democratize a
country so clearly and grossly racked by inequality. Without a common consensus among the people,
democracy s fate within Spain became

Free Will And Fate In King Oedipus The King
Humanity:
Human beings have great knowledge capability and can demonstrate incredible powers of intellectual
penetration and awareness. However, it is unreliable and limited because even the smartest human
being will commit an error. King Oedipus means to show that human beings are powerless before the
gods because they are the ones that created us and sort of path our journey on Earth. Disaster and error
can happen to anyone and human beings must have the best attitude toward life (Sparknotes).
Decision making process:
Human has the capacity to exert free will even though there is fate. Human s personality will decide

The choice of him of not to blind his past shows that he is not a victim of fate by uncovering an event
of past blindness. Bad ones can be uncover by good choices. Oedipus chooses to accept it and live
with dignity. Camus, the great absurdist philosopher and author said that Oedipus is an absurd hero
where he accepts his choices and not his fate (mstultz72, 2009). He seems to admit his responsibility
(Destiny, Fate, Free Will and Free Choice in Oedipus the King Free Will).
The prophecy to Jocasta and Lauis is a fate. However, they make a free will decision to leave Oedipus
to die by giving him to the servant, but actually it is starting to fulfill the prophecy (Fate and Free Will
in Sophocles Oedipus the King). If they do not send Oedipus to death, he most likely will not kill
Lauis at the crossroads.
Furthermore, Oedipus chooses to be angry at Teiresias. He insults and bullies the seer into revealing
himself is the killer of Lauis causing the plague that affects the Theban citizens and living things. Also
at Creon where he accuses Creon of getting royal powers for his own and plotting against him to
excel. He threatens Creon with a choice of exile or death as punishment and fate. However, Oedipus

Introduction After the signing of the Convention on Biological Diversity in the United Nations
Congress on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, a number of development
projects addressing the theme of biodiversity has considerably increased. Many of these projects have
been channeled through the Global Environment Facility (GEF) or other international agencies. Also,
many bilateral projects have seen light. In the aftermath of the signing of the Convention the Peruvian
Government approached the Finnish Government in 1995 with a proposal of a technical assistance
project to assess the biological diversity of Peruvian Amazonia and to assist Peru in developing a
national strategy for conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in that region a requirement of
the Convention. This request was a result of a long term research engagement between Peru and
Finland through institutional cooperation between Peruvian institutions and universities and the
University of Turku in Finland. This cooperation had already produced valuable new insights to
assessment of biodiversity in Peruvian Amazonia (Kalliola et al. 1993, Tuomisto et al. 1995,

Archetypes In Fahrenheit 451
The use of everyday objects and descriptions can really connect to something more deep. In the

protagonist, Guy Montag is in a journey to find answers using the paperback books that the overall
society totally rejects. In this society it is not that hard to forget about others when you have three
walls covered with TV s. The majority of the society decided to use materialistic objects such as the

Peace Like A River Courage Analysis
One of the most needed human traits is courage. The book, Peace Like A River by Leif Enger, displays
many types of courage throughout the book and we can learn from them...of why courage is
important. Courage is an important trait to have because we learn from it, gain new things, and it s
helping others in need. The first reason of why courage is important is because it can be learned from.
How courage is connected with learning is because people with courage and bravery learn from the
mistakes that they took on. Why, yes sir, I told Elvis. He asked Dad a question. He said, How many
times you let the dog bite you, before you put him down? And the court did not erupt, nor the jury

second time... Blind with despair I fired again. The goose had to be out of range; yet somehow it

Even through Reuben wasn t confident of shooting down a bird and had failed the first time, he didn t
give up and shot again, and got the bird he was shooting for. This takes immense courage to face and
go through, especially when it s something a person loves to do and to learn about. Also, in another
part of the book, Reuben gets his reward of helping someone else, He pulled out two ten dollar bills
and a five and said, You done a good job, then patted another pocket and came out with two chocolate
bars. (119). This was earned by the courage and hard work that Reuben did to earn some money and

Reuben, will earn more especially if they work really hard and quickly. This is shown because the man

The Myth Of Co Parenting By Hope Edelman Analysis
Marriage has been constantly changing over the past centuries. Currently, trends in marriage have
adopted a new way of getting married through splitting responsibilities and work, resulting in social
freedom for individuals. The Myth of Co Parenting, by Hope Edelman demonstrates the difficulties of
taking all the responsibilities while in My Problem with Her Anger, explains the needs of having a
better understanding of each other. Due to marriage changing over the last centuries, marriage couples
desire individuals expectations and freedom to be met in marriage.
While both authors stand on the idea of marriage changing in roles, Hope Edelman in The Myth of Co
Parenting: How It Was Supposed to Be. How It Was, inserts her view about marriage in her own
experience that shows her attitude on marriage mainly through her husband leaving all the
responsibility toward her. When parents are not there for their kids, often times kids feel unattached
with their parents creating a weaker bond. Edelman s frustration came from having a dream of
marrying happily to having it demolished.
On the other hand, Eric Bartels in his article My problem with Her Anger, explained the difficulties he
had when his wife was nagging him all the time. His assumption toward marriage has declined as his
marriage went from being good to his wife as she trigger madness inside of her all the time. He
explained his attitude toward his marriage when his wife gets mad all the time. If this is my castle, it is
under siege. From within. ( 59) Bartels through saying this displayed his attitude his marriage as a
castle looked like it s perfectly fine, but from the inside it s chaos displayed.
The assumption both articles shared the the individual expectation of spouses in the relationship.
Edelman explains that loyalty and devotion are undoubtedly better traits to have in a spouse, to
support the idea that marriage should be between two parents working together side by side to fulfill
their dreams. She went on further showing that her daughter needed a father who s there to support her
and have comfort in her life, unlike her parents. Both articles addresses a modern aspect of life that
marriage is changing over the years. In My

Technology Advances And Medical Devices For Consumer Use
Introduction
As technology advances, medical devices are able to record increasing amounts of information. These
devices are also becoming much more assessable to consumers than in the past. In Adam Tanner s
article Health Entrepreneur Debates Going To Data s Dark Side, he discusses the company Safe Heart.
Safe Heart is developing medical devices for consumer use. These devices are able to measure values
like blood oxygen saturation, heart rate, and perfusion index. Being able to collect these massive
amounts of data, places these devices in the realm of big data. Although the topic of big data imposes
its own issues, the medical nature of the data creates an additional set of important issues. Safe Heart
is not the first organization to develop devices that collect big quantities of data. In recent years, many
organizations have begun to capture and use large quantities of medical data. Hospitals, credit
agencies and researchers have all started to use medical data to the advantage of either the patient or
their own corporation. With all the data being captured, there are legal and ethical issues that become
apparent.
Main Issues
The most prominent issue related to big healthcare technology data is a legal one. The Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), protects health data that is transmitted by a
certain groups and organizations [1]. It states that consent must be obtained from the patient to
distribute any information to a third party. The

The Master-Slave Ideology
When it comes to the notion of our importance as a people during the slave era, would it be a fact or
opinion that we head a higher significance. The master slave ideology takes many shapes. But in the
essay I will start at the auction block. At the auction block is we re conniving masters first meet the
slave. Although some slaves were sold against their own will, many of them had a choice of the
master. Slave owners would attend auctions and persuade slaves to become theirs by filling their heads
with promises of a good plantation life. This is the first of bonds formed between the master and slave

But because he felt a sense of loyalty to his master, he ignores the advice of the freed blacks and
continued down the river until he reached his master s brother. A slave had no rights of his own. He
was the absolute possession of his master. And he was obligated to give his master unquestioning
obedience. It was a humble position that demanded a man to think of his duties and obligations rather
than his privileges. And it demanded the slaves loyalty to his master. The slave had no interests of his
own, all he did was for His Master. (Marji Mike Kruger). On December 18th, 1865, President
Abraham Lincoln declared slavery to be illegal and he made slave owners set them free. Although this
law was written down, it didn t mean that the idea and ideology of slave master relationship vanished
completely. As history progressed onward, the term slave was replaced with a more demeaning term,
nigger. During this age, the definition of a slave was a person oppressed to a degree which a person s

Pros And Cons Of Computer Engineering
SECTION I
What is engineering? According to the dictionary, it is the branch of science and technology concerned
with the design, building, and use of engines, machines, and structures.. According to (Lucas J 2014),
the field of engineering is very broad, there is a specific branch in engineering defined as networking,
networking refers to connections, it is a set of connected computers. Computers on a network are
called nodes. The connection between computers can be done via cabling, most commonly the
Ethernet cable, or wirelessly through radio waves. Connected computers can share resources, like
access to the Internet, printers, file servers, and others. A network is a multipurpose connection, which
allows a single computer to do more, (Lucas J 2014).
The environment of this career is ever changing, computers are the future and every day new
technologies are discovered in this field so there is always more to learn about.
The education needed for regular networking jobs are a bachelor in computer science and or computer
engineering as a basic requirement, a master is always beneficial too. In addition to this, there are
certificates to be earned, the more complicated the longer they are valid for, considering these
certificates expire, (Ms Martha 2017).
Regarding training and experience, most employees start with low paid
(or non paid) internships and go up from there. Some skills and personality traits required are being a

Campbell s Soup Andy Warhol Analysis
Andy warhol created the concept of pop art in 1961. Pop art mainly focused on mass produced
commercial goods, in 1962 Warhol had released his now iconic painting Campbell s Soup. This new
rush of popularity pulled both Warhol and pop art into the national spotlight for the first time.
This 3D campbell s tomato soup can painting was created from synthetic polymer paint, It is very
simple and works with a basic colour scheme. Consisting of white, red, brown and cream colores. The
texture of the painting is smooth, This art piece individually does not have much repetition, however
the whole artwork is a constant repetition of the soup can 32 times. The colors balance out together to
create a simple and plain yet astonishing art piece.
Even though this art piece was created by Warhol for an advertisement as well as the fact that he liked
soup, it caught lots of attention. Andy Warhol s art resonated with an affluent culture of the 1960s said

People similar to myself may be considered goody two shoes, if that is still a relevant saying. I think
about my past and there has never been a time when I deliberately wanted to bend the rules or felt

the classical kind of person is more likely to struggle living an anti authoritarianism lifestyle due to the
fact that for underlying objects to work there must be structure. An example in reference to ZAMM

many subjects and captures the reader to the full extent. Reinaldo Arenas, the author and the person
who lived the experience writes this book for us in hopes of capturing our feelings and sympathy of

The book opens to the succulent, splendor forest, full of vivid emotion and color where Arenas started
the beginning of his life in Oriente Province, Cuba. The setting is one of poverty, but the natural world
around him seemed to be beautiful and dazzling. Arenas shows this by saying, The splendor of my
childhood was unique because of its absolute poverty and absolute freedom surrounded by trees,
animals, and people who are indifferent towards me (Arenas 332). This quote foreshadows the rest of
the story in that Reinaldo soon faces indifference from other people because he is unique and is doing
something a different way . Also, this quotation points out the wonderful time he had as a child where
there seemed to be opportunity, before Fidel Castro came into power restricting most rights.
Furthermore, Arenas was free as a child and was uplifted by the cognitive nature of opportunity, but as
he got older the setting started to change and dreams were tarnished and opportunity was thrown away
by political interference. Reinaldo Arenas childhood was the only time of happiness and immaculacy
and throughout the rest of the story Arenas is on a desperate search for enchantment in his once short
lived paradise. As Arenas states in the book, These, to be sure, were farfetched hopes, hopes born of
despair, but hope is, after all, mostly for the desperate (Arenas 260). This quote purely gives an edge
to Arenas personality, saying that he,

Hospice And Palliative Care Center
Executive Summary During the summer of 2015 semester I had the opportunity to intern with Hospice
Palliative Care Center located in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Hospice and Palliative Care Center
is an organization that stands behind its mission to provide compassionate care for those with a life
limiting illness, and their families, through quality medical, emotional, spiritual and social support
(Hospice Palliative Care Center, 2015). Hospice and Palliative Care Center is a place where patients
can spend their last days of life with dignity. Regardless of inability to finance medical treatment no
patient is ever turned away, unless he or she does not meet the requirements for hospice care. The
employees are dedicated and faithful in applying the standards of excellence which consists of
commitment, compassion, competence, community and creativity. One of my goals as an intern was to
observe, implement and demonstrate the standards of excellence. My primary tasks as an intern were
to learn and understand the conduction and operation of human resource, finance and the compliance
departments in healthcare management. Over the course of the semester I participated in numerous
meetings within the administrative and clinical departments, alongside the CEO, Vice President,
interdisciplinary teams, nurses, and nurse s assistant, to discuss the future of healthcare and the
importance of quality of care for the patients. In addition, I completed a prevalent amount

Pride In The Count Of Monte Cristo
It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as angels Saint Augustine.
Pride is can bring out the good qualities in people but can also overpower them, and cause a negative
reaction. The Count of Monte Cristo is about Edmond Dantes who was about to be the captain of the
Pharaon and marry the love of his life. Until, he was falsely accused of treason, by his friends and sent
to Chateau d if. When Edmond escapes the jail he finds a smuggler ship who takes him to the Isle of
Monte Cristo. Where he finds the treasure Edmonds friend from jail Abbe Faria Told him about.
Edmond sets off to get revenge on the people who betrayed him, and reward his loyal friends. Edmond
eventually stops fulfilling his vengeance when he feels guilty and runs away with his new lover to
start a new life. In comparison, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Louis XVI has a great decline in power and calls himself just a puppet on a lonely string
(Coldplay 31). This presents the idea that after the king was overthrown he felt useless. And he lost all
pride in himself, because puppets are controlled by other people, hee no longer has the confidence to
do the bold things he used to do. But in the Count of Monte Cristo Edmond has the opposite problem,
his pride has made him think he is above/with God on levels of power. By telling everyone Satan took
him to the tallest mountain in the world and Satan told him as he had said to christ, son of man what
would thou have in order to worship me? (Dumas 213). Presenting the information, that Edmond has
called himself Godlike and will sell his soul to Satan, just to get that much more power. With all of the
money, power, and abundance of pride he forgot that he was human wich can come back at him and
cause problems. King Louis XVI and Edmond Dantes are very similar in the way of how pride took
over them, and how they ended

The Importance Of The Electronic Communications Privacy Act
The Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) is a United States government statute that denies
an outsider from blocking or uncovering interchanges without approval.
Foundation: The Electronic Communications Privacy Act and the Stored Wire Electronic
Communications Act are generally alluded together as the Electronic Communications Privacy Act
(ECPA) of 1986. The ECPA refreshed the Federal Wiretap Act of 1968, which tended to block attempt
of discussions utilizing hard phone lines, yet did not make a difference to interference of PC and other
computerized and electronic correspondences. A few resulting bits of enactment, including The USA
PATRIOT Act, elucidate and refresh the ECPA to keep pace with the development of new interchanges
advancements and techniques, including facilitating confinements on law requirement access to put
away correspondences at times.
In the same line EU Parliament Releases Draft Report on ePrivacy Directive: The European
Parliament s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice, and Home Affairs has released a draft report on
regulations for privacy and electronic communications. The draft contains several proposals to
strengthen online privacy, including end to end encryption in all electronic communications and a ban
on encryption backdoors. Protecting the privacy of communications is an essential condition for the
respect of other related fundamental rights and freedoms, according to the report. EPIC has urged the

The American Civil War And The Vietnam War
Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the
strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to
war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave
of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events. Sir Winston Churchill. Throughout history, men have
fought battles to protect and serve for their country. Some men become injured at war and others don t
get to live on to tell their stories. We are all thankful of those who are able to live on and tell their
stories to the common people about their experiences. Two intriguing Wars are the American Civil
War and the Vietnam War. They both deal with the long challenging fights between the North and the
South regions within each country. The Civil War and the Vietnam War were never declared wars but
still managed to divide nations and families. During these wars, many people died defending their
land. Two very different war veterans are truly remarkable for the duties they have performed. Robert
Edward Lee; the general in chief of the Civil war, and Gary James Walker; a veteran of the Vietnam
War have interesting stories from their active military days. The American Civil war was fought
between the Southern and the Northern States during 1861 and 1865. The war was between seven
southern slave states, known as the Confederate States of America, and the states from the North

The Shawshank Redemption And The Marriage Of Figaro
What does one imagine when viewing a comic opera? A ornamented opera house? Patrons dressed in
black tie apparel? However, would one imagine a comic opera playing in a maximum security prison?
Would uneducated prisoners appreciate the music? In The Shawshank Redemption both of these
events occurred. In The Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne plays an duet from Mozart s comic
opera, The Marriage to Figaro, as its Enlightened ideals represent Andy s prison experience and its
Classical characteristics evoke a sense of hope in the repressed prison. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart s
The Marriage of Figaro reflects the social and musical influence of the Classical period. Socially, The
Marriage of Figaro reflects the ideals of the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was was a period that
saw the institutions of Europe religious, political, social, educational, industrial, financial and artistic
slowly but inexorably lower their focus from the ruling aristocratic and clerical classes to a new class
of people. For want of a better term, we call this new and rising class of people the middle class
(Greenberg Opera Buffa ). The Enlightenment placed an emphasis on the natural man or the common
man, not just the aristocratic class (Kerman and Tomlinson Listen 153). Consequently, Mozart focused
his comic operas on lower to middle class protagonists like the servants Figaro and Susanna whose
marital bliss is delayed by nobles ( Synopsis: Le Nozze di Figaro The Metropolitan Opera). Another

The Graveyard Book Report
The book that I read was The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. I finished about eighty percent of my
book, but I skipped a few chapters and moved to the end because I was running out of time to actually
finish my book before the due date. I would recommend this book to a friend, because I thought The
Graveyard Book was an amazing book with many sad stories to tell. What I enjoy the most about
reading The Graveyard Book is that it shows the growth of the main character throughout the whole
book and explains that the character is growing up to being an adult. The one thing that I did not enjoy
was using my time on reading when I could be working on homework or get started on projects. A
passage that I thought was important throughout the whole

Role of Natural Selection and Chance in the Survival of...
Natural Selection and Chance in the Survival of Emperor Penguins
Emperor penguins are majestic creatures; their life cycle portrayed in the film March of the Penguins
shows a lifecycle fraught with dangers, including exposure to extreme environmental conditions and
aggressive predators. Despite the challenges, the breed has survived. It may be argued that survival is
the result of natural selection and the adaptations which have developed, but it is also argued luck
plays a role.
Natural selection occurs when genotypic characteristics which provide better adaption to the
environment, increasing survival chances, reproduce and become increasing frequent within a
population, perpetuating the beneficial characteristics (Beatty, 1984). Chance is luck, or simply being
at the right, (or the wrong), place at the right, (or the wrong), time. Both appear to influence the life of
the penguins.
March of the Penguins starts with the journey to their mating ground across the ice in Antarctica,
starting with a walk of 70 miles. Natural selection starts at this point; many penguins die during the
journey across the ice; only those who survive the journey reproduce. Penguins are not unique,
returning through dangers to specific mating grounds. Other examples include salmon and eels,
showing a general pattern of natural selection.
During mating, penguins choose a single mate each season. Why mates are chosen is unknown, but as
females fight over the males, there may be preferred

Moving To A New School Essay
Madison Tritico
ENGL 1301 B07
Dr. Kovar
19 September, 2015
As an easy going person, I have never thought of the world as a harsh place. However, after going
through an intimidating incident, my view on the world is forever changed. Being bullied helped me
understand what some kids are going through everyday, and I have come to realize that bullying needs
to come to an end.
I never once believed I would be bullied; I expected every person I talked to, to treat me fairly.
Moving to a new school and a new place changed the way I portrayed others. I came from a small
town, with about 4,000 people, to a city with ten times more the population. The city was large and so
was my new school. I was so scared of what was to come of my new school. My mother felt bad for
me and introduced me to her friend s daughter, Jordan. Jordan is my age and she was going to the
same school I was. We became friends before school started and made plans of doing homework and
sitting together at lunch. I told her my worries of finding my classes and making friends. I even told
her about the cute boy, who was now my next door neighbor, Kenny. Jordan and I quickly became
friends and I was beginning to become confident on attending a new school. Little, did I know, that
becoming her friend would change my perspective on life, forever.
I eventually learned to choose my friends wisely on my first day of sophomore year. I walked into the
enormous building and was so overwhelmed

China s Economic Power On A Global Scale
China has established itself as an economic power on a global scale. A national transition in industry,
finance and technology has placed china at the top of the list as an appealing global trade partner.
Chinese Manufacturing has led the way to a boom in exports and recognition for the Chinese
workforce as a world leader in cost effective manufacturing. A shift in work force has provided
inexpensive labor, paired with a strong economy China has also positioned itself among the top world
leaders for global exports. China went from an under developed country to emerge as a leading world
economy among economic powerhouses like the United States and the European Union.
Americas insatiable demand for cheap goods has caused an increased gap in the annual U.S. trade
deficit over recent years. The U.S. trade deficit with China was an astronomical $365.7 billion in
2015. The United States imports consumer electronics, clothing and industrial machinery from China.
Many of the imports are from U.S. based corporations that send components to China for less
expensive assembly. After assembly the products are shipped back to the U.S market for retail sale.
Although the profits are attributed to American owned companies which are ultimately domestic
entities the merchandise is classified as an import by law. The growing trade deficit with China is a
hot topic in American politics. Legislators often try to impose tariffs or other forms of trade
protectionism against China to support

Edward Harvey Research Paper
Truly great work comes from the ability to break ground and think outside of traditional standards. On
March 12, 1929 a man named Edward Harvey was born in Washington D.C. Two weeks into his life,
Edward was adopted by Reed and Frances Albee who changed his name to Edward Albee. The Albee
s, recipients of an incredible amount of wealth from the vaudeville and movie industry, raised Edward
in Westchester, New York. With the advantage of social and economic privilege, Edward was raised to
be a respectable member of New York s elite society. He was constantly exposed to well known
theatre personalities throughout his life. Sadly, this lifestyle resulted in little connection between
Edward and his conservative parents. He always felt extremely ... Show more content on

His ill relationship with his parents, his constant dismissals from his schooling, and his defiance all
hint that his desires and intentions were directed in places other than learning and preparing for his
future. His behavior seems to reveal a loathing for confinement and typical standards due to the
suffocation of his parent s elite status. His literary characters demonstrate behaviors that are far from
normal or conventional, but with true and genuine intention. This relationship between Albee s
childhood and his work exhibit the power of nurture and its effect on a human being. Following
college, Albee lived in Greenwich Village. Away from his parents, Albee performed many different
jobs, utilizing his grandmother s inheritance to sustain himself. With the guide of his mentor and
music composer William Flanagan, Albee continued to pursue playwriting. Albee also credited
Thorton Wilder for inspiring him to become a playwright. Albee officially became a famous
playwright in the 1950s. In Albee s life, he was involved with various different men, the longest of
whom is Jonathan Thomas who sadly passed away in 2005. In the same bitter sweet year, Albee won a
2005 Lifetime Achievement Award. He was also the recipient of Kennedy Honors and the National
Medal of the

  • 2. My Religion Essay My Religion What religion am I? In my life, I have been told many things about my religion. My mother is a Roman Catholic, while my father is Jewish. I have learned about both religions, and I have tried to practice both as best I could, but I am now faced with the decision; which one am I? Christians believe that Jesus is both God and man, incarnation of God, and man gives man two natures, physical and divined that they are united in one person. Thus the mystery of God becoming a human being, Jesus, and suffered and died, and Mary (Jesus mother) was the mother of God. God resolved himself to mankind in 3 ways, as God the father, God the sun and the Holy Spirit. From this we can see that Christianity is based on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His or her life is structured from birth to death, through, the sacraments weekly worship, daily prayer and the promise of eternal life. Judaism is the complex expression of a religious community, a way of life as well as a set of basic beliefs and values, which is separated in patterns of action, social order, and culture as well as in religious statements and concepts. The ideal is to remember God in everything one does, through prayer and keeping the commandments. There are many spiritual practices that the Jewish people follow as a reminder of their faith and as a way to engage all the senses in awareness of God. Some of these scared practices include: circumcision, Sabbath, eating kosher foods, and Bar Mitzvah. Of all of the commandments in Judaism, the brit milah, is probably the one most universally observed. It is commonly referred to as a bris. Even the most seculars of Jews, who observe no other part of Judaism, almost always observe these laws. Boys are ritually circumcised when they are eight days old, to honor the seal of God s commandment to Abraham. A person who is uncircumcised suffers the penalty of kareit, spiritual elimination. Sabbath is the most important ritual observance in Judaism. It is primarily a day of rest and spiritual enrichment. The Jewish Sabbath runs from sunset Friday night to sunset Saturday night. Observant Jewish families begin the Sabbath eve with a special Friday night dinner. The woman of the house lights candles to bring in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fatigue is still considered as a significant contributory factor to many incidents in the shipping industry despite of legislation concerning seafarers hours of work and rest that has been in force for many years; overall enforcement measures have generally been ineffective. (OCIMF, 2012). IMO describes fatigue as a State of feeling tired, weary, or sleepy that results from prolonged mental or physical work, exposure to harsh environment, or loss of sleep which can lead to the impairment of performance and to the reduction of alertness (IMO, 2001). In accordance with Guidance on Fatigue Mitigation and Management there are many ways to categorize the causes of fatigue. To ensure thoroughness and to provide good coverage of most causes, they have been categorized into 4 general factors: Crew specific Factors; Management Factors (ashore and aboard ship); Ship specific Factors; Environmental Factors. Even if all of these factors can be considered with the same weighting coefficient in determination of level of fatigue, the most important factors will be still related to the crew specific factors such as Sleep and Rest, Quality, Quantity and Duration of Sleep, Sleep Disorders/Disturbances, Rest Breaks, Biological Clock/Circadian Rhythms, Psychological ... • 4. Detroit Is Not A Blank Canvas Some people believe that Detroit is comparable to a blank canvas. A place where an opportunity is lurking right around the corner. They imagine it as a deserted place, in which a businessman can create anything they dream of. However, the harsh reality is, Detroit is not a blank canvas. It has been splattered with an era of prominence, scribbled on with the invention of the automobile, and engraved with a history of racism and corruption. Although much of Detroit s glory has been stripped away, there are still people who exist in the city s remnants. Actual people, with actual families, actual homes, and actual lives. When outsiders talk about the city s revival, they are often forgetting about these people, or the actual citizens of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many factors to point blame at when considering Detroit s failure. A city that was dependent on manufacturing cars was bound to flounder when the factories moved elsewhere. Tensions among races became prevalent throughout the city, ending with whites moving into the suburbs. Corruption consumed the city s government, and the leaders led the city into the ground. The aftermath of these actions have been thrown upon the people who stayed in the city of Detroit. These people are living in unsafe conditions due to the fact crime rates are so high, and the police presence is so scarce. The children are apart of a failing education system; the foundation of the buildings aren t up to public health code, they have limited resources, and a lack of teachers willing to work. When talking about the future of Detroit, where does one see the future for these people? Why is there a new hockey arena being built, while the deteriorating schools are being left to fall apart? Large sums of money are being poured into the city s assets, but the investors are forgetting the most important asset of Detroit, it s people. When talking about the endless opportunities Detroit has to offer, one common plan is the idea of Detroit becoming a tourist city. Investors view downtown as a diverse entertainment district, with an array of theatres, museums, casinos ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Literary Analysis Of Esperanza Rising By Pam Muñoz Ryan Literary Analysis of Esperanza Rising To foreshadow events in books or to tell the meaning of a story, authors often use symbolism. Symbolism uses people, places, or things that have their own meaning, to express something different. The author of Esperanza Rising, Pam Muñoz Ryan, uses a certain fruit or vegetable to symbolize events of emotions that occur in the chapter. Three chapters in Esperanza Rising that represent an important part of the book are Los Higos, Las Cebollas, and Los Aquacates. In Esperanza Rising, figs, onions, and avocados symbolize a new beginning, the acceptance of starting anew, and the rewards followed after hardship. Los Higos, or figs, represent a new beginning, because of Esperanza s journey through the fig orchard. Mama and Esperanza execute their plan, in which they leave under the cover of darkness for California. During their trip, they walk through the fig orchard separating El Rancho de las Roses and Señor Rodriquez s ranch. When Esperanza turned around at the end of the fig orchard, She could see nothing behind her but a trail of splattered figs she had resentfully smashed beneath her feet. • 6. Wisdom In Herman Hesse s Siddhartha Herman Hesse s novel, Siddhartha, has many different themes woven throughout the book. They range from love to self enlightenment to wisdom. The themes I will be focusing on are wisdom and knowledge. Hesse shows throughout the book how Siddhartha comes to know these as two separate things. Wisdom is what you learn by experiences, while knowledge is what you learn from others. First, Siddhartha sets off to seek knowledge. Siddhartha s goal is to reach enlightenment and he seeks his teachers and brahmin for help. Siddhartha believes if he gains enough knowledge he will find peace within himself. His father s heart skipped joyously for this son who was quick to learn, who was thirsty for knowledge (page 5). Through finding and learning all of this knowledge Siddhartha quickly came to realize he was still thirsting for more. He went to live with the shramanas, but found even with their knowledge he was still thirsty for more. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wisdom must come from with in and you can not be taught it. Siddhartha sets off on his own, to learn the path of wisdom, through living the experiences of this world. He learns love by the hands of an escort, and money by the hands of a merchant. Siddhartha is not fully satisfied with those experiences and still has an empty void within him. When he comes to know the ferryman, he looks back on his previous experiences and sees how much more of a wiser man he is now than he was before. Next, Hesse shows how knowledge without wisdom can leave one extremely empty and thirsty for peace. Siddhartha s best friend Govinda comes to love the Buddha and follow his ways. On his search for peace, he believes learning the Buddha s ways will bring him to peace. When he is an old man and the Buddha has died, he realizes how his knowledge has brought him no where close to peace because he has no wisdom. • 8. Application Of A Mechanical Wave Sound Applications in medicine Moreover, toxins pile up in the body, especially outside of the cells due to poor bio electric membrane voltage, which makes it possible for the toxins to stick to the membrane. This activity inhibits the natural flow of water into the cells as well as exit of nucleic waste out of the cells. As a result, the functioning of the cells is compromised until the level whereby toxins penetrate the cell membranes and thus reaching a level whereby the process is irreversible. Moreover, the body s design has many organs that are attuned to the electromagnetic phenomena. For example, the brain produces electromagnetic fields that are both different and separate from those produced by the heart; a mechanical wave sound is vibrated by the tympanic membrane while the eyes record individual photon packets. As such, the human body is actively involved in the production and control of bioelectricity. Bioelectromagnetism is used in medicine in detoxification whereby the application of electromagnetism leads to the restoration of integrity to the actual membrane itself to return the cell to its normal functioning by being selectively permeable. This leads to proper processing of toxins for elimination whereby the kidneys and liver start to remove more toxins and thereby reducing the overall toxin load in the body. One major application happened in 1892 when Nikola Tesla met with Paul Oudin leading to the production of the violet ray , a device that used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Baker s goal is to educate readers on the differences between the ancient Greek Olympic Games, and today s modern Olympic Games. William Baker not only explains the physical aspects of the games , but the relationship between the Greek religion and the Olympic games as well. William Baker s article follows his thesis well; which was, Virtually everyone knows that the modern Olympics are patterned on the Olympic Games of ancient Greece, yet few people have more than a hazy understanding of the original Olympics .(article,pp58) William Baker wrote the Organized Greek Games in chronological order. An example of Baker writing the article chronologically, is when William Baker describes the Greek game s schedule, and the events that were planned for each day in order. the duration of the festival was set at five days, with only two and a half days devoted to the games themselves. the first day was given to religious ceremonies. (article,pp61) In the Organized Greek Games William Baker quotes Socrates, the body must bear its part in whatever man; and in all the services required from the body, it is of the utmost importance to have it in the best possible condition. • 10. Consider The Lobster By David Foster Wallace Analysis American Novelist, essayist and short story author David Foster Wallace uses his essay Consider the Lobster to tell the reader about his thought provoking visit to the Maine Lobster Festival. Wallace wrote this essay to show his thought process dealing with the moral ambiguity of cooking lobster, and the research he did to further understand the subject. He primarily uses an informational tone with a heavy emphasis on pathos. He does a fairly good job remaining unbiased and showing the counterarguments. Wallace was sent to the Maine Lobster Festival by Gourmet Magazine, he was tasked simply to write about his experience there. Following this point he points out that perhaps lobsters understand pain but they don t dislike it and how pain is not distressing them (Wallace 63). He reinstates the fact that there is a clear difference in pain as a purely neurological event from pain as actual suffering , the latter requiring an emotional component (Wallace 36). Later on he states that this means that although lobster s experience pain it is not a struggle based on discomfort but more of a preference. More akin to you preferring to sit in a certain spot around the table. These are used to inform the reader of the physical aspects of the lobster that affect the overall moral ambiguity of the subject. In his closing statements he takes the time to throw some more thought provoking sentences in, calling out a part of being a real gourmet (Wallace 64). Wallace wonders if future generations might look back and see our current eating practices similarly to how we see tribal sacrifices today. I see this as an extreme analogy but it has its use in this essay, it brings out the thought that perhaps we should take a step back from our food and think about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They would look to nature for a cure. They even looked toward the heavens for gods to cure their ailments. Not until recently did we, as a race, begin to look toward ourselves to find solutions. Victorian Thomas Brown proposed the study of the mind as the basic framework for most scientific efforts. He believed that before any science could be taken seriously, the brain must be studied. Not only the physicality of the brain, but also the workings of the mind and how it thinks (Wee, 2005). With Brown s proposal, the majority of serious psychologists would no longer ignore the real world implications of human experience and action when dealing with the functioning of the mind. In 1885, Herbert Spencer published The Principles of Psychology. Spencer had a strong background in biology and philosophy, therefore much of his writings were based solely on speculation, observation, and philosophical ideals. Wee (2005), One of Spencer s most famous phrases was survival of the fittest , which later formed the basis of a controversial branch of psychology/philosophy called Social Darwinism (para. 4). And in these urban areas insects, rodents and animals co habitate with humans (Doaks 241). Cycle four in Black Nature Pest, People Too speak about the power dynamic between humans, pets, and otherworldly creatures. Poems in this cycle warn readers that if the connection between the human world and animals are detached, human life will fall into an accelerating stillness. In Lucille Clifton s poem the beginning of the end of the world she suggests that the end of the world will be guided in when the cockroaches bow their/ sad heads for us not at us/ and march single file away. Many other poets in this cycle pull connections between African Americans, insects, birds, and other trivialized creatures. • 16. Women, Gender Gap and Voting Behaviors Women, Gender Gap and Voting Behaviors By: Sarah Langenwalter Women have always had so many different and interesting behavior patterns; whether they are patterns at home, at work, or even at the polls. Choosing this topic was easy, women are very unique about everything, and I was curious to see the differences in the way we vote compared to men, the gender gap. With the help of peer reviewed articles and other research, I am planning to explain the gender gap as well as other voting behaviors that women perform. The peer reviewed articles that I chose will be discussed in the following order: The Gender Gap: When an Opinion Gap is not a Voting Bloc by Linda Bennett, How Do Female Spouses Political Interests Affect Male ... Fifty one percent of the white women respondents and 48 percent of white men felt that Reaganomics had made no difference to them personally (taUc .08), while two thirds of black women and 59 percent of black men surveyed felt that they had been personally hurt by the president s economic program (taUc = .06) (Bennett, 619). To summarize the conclusion to the first article: because of the topic in the Reagan election, research cannot definitively show that it was a gender bloc when women voted. There are too many other qualities that were present during this election such as: ethnicity, racial grouping and social class (Bennett, 624). The second article, How Do Female Spouses Political Interests Affect Male Spouses Views about a Women s Issue? written by Eiji Yamamura in the Atlantic Economic Journal in 2010, unlike the first article where the research tried to prove a gender gap, is trying to prove that there is not a gender gap. The main question of the research from this article is: How are an individual s political views affected by the gender of family members or spouses? (Yamamura, 360). This researcher believes that just like offspring have an effect on their parents and vice versa, so do married couples. That is where gender gap comes into play; if spouses do have some sway on ... • 17. The Importance Of Domestic Work In modern capitalist societies, certain types of labor are given a higher economic and social capital. Jobs that require traditionally feminine qualities, such as domestic work, are seen as less important than jobs that promote masculine traits. This inherent devaluation of feminine qualities reflects on those who often complete this work women. The work of women is made to be invisible through a lack of legal protection and unpaid labor. Economical hierarchies and gendered work are further reinforced through the association of this work with pre existing power differences between men and women, and women from Global North and Global South. Women can be harmed by domestic work as shown by Meshael Alayban, a Saudi Arabian Princess, who allegedly held 5 women against their will to work as maids and confiscated their travel documents (Rokhy 2013: 1). Alayban was arrested in July of 2013, but she was eventually released due to lack of evidence. The case, nonetheless, exemplifies important issues surrounding women s work and oppression stemming from global inequality. Through reinforced gender roles and divisions of wealth, women continue to take on a disproportionate share of care work and a subordinate role in the domestic sphere. Assumed gender roles affect women in both the professionally and within the home. The decreased value of work pertaining to feminine traits is seen clearly through the gender pay gap and the salary of different jobs. According to Melissa J. Gillis s ... As history progressed onward, the term slave was replaced with a more demeaning term, nigger. During this age, the definition of a slave was a person oppressed to a degree which a person s will can t be done. Niggers [Negroes] were considered the second, inferior race. We finally were considered to be human beings. Although we were so called free, we were still forced to live under limited conditions. Yes, the physical chains, bolts, and locks were done away with but we were still bared down by many laws that restrained us still from being recognized for a full potential. Louie, answer me. What? he barked as he finally turned towards her. As he loomed over her, standing at the foot of their bed, buried in his cellphone, she got her first good look at him for the day. Through a tear in his pants she could see a cut on his leg, no doubt attained by begging on the streets of St. Louis. The simplicity and accuracy of this quote may make a person deeply question how they decide to react to what life gives them. In the movie Harold and Maude, Harold is displayed as an odd boy who has a strange habit of enjoying to portray death, but only to get a reaction from his mother. Harold did not always have this desire to scare his mother, but one day when his mother was told of his death he enjoyed the reaction so much it changed how he lived life. I think about my past and there has never been a time when I deliberately wanted to bend the rules or felt comfortable doing so. I consider myself a classical person. I enjoy understanding the mechanics behind working systems, but find it hard to be spontaneous and go with the flow of things. I feel as if the classical kind of person is more likely to struggle living an anti authoritarianism lifestyle due to the fact that for underlying objects to work there must be structure. An example in reference to ZAMM may be the common topic of motorcycles. John is very much pleased with his BMW because he loves the aesthetics. The outer shell, or aesthetic, may be considered an authority. While the narrator of ZAMM may be more intrigued with the underlying functions of the motorcycle, if there is no outer shell to hold and protect it then the motorcycle will likely not be functioning. Similarly, if a classical minded person, like myself, were to attempt to remove authority from my life I may malfunction. My grades may drop because I have given up making specific scheduled time to do homework, which would ultimately lead to a loss in career opportunities in the future. The setting is one of poverty, but the natural world around him seemed to be beautiful and dazzling. Arenas shows this by saying, The splendor of my childhood was unique because of its absolute poverty and absolute freedom surrounded by trees, animals, and people who are indifferent towards me (Arenas 332). This quote foreshadows the rest of the story in that Reinaldo soon faces indifference from other people because he is unique and is doing something a different way . Also, this quotation points out the wonderful time he had as a child where there seemed to be opportunity, before Fidel Castro came into power restricting most rights. Furthermore, Arenas was free as a child and was uplifted by the cognitive nature of opportunity, but as he got older the setting started to change and dreams were tarnished and opportunity was thrown away by political interference. Reinaldo Arenas childhood was the only time of happiness and immaculacy and throughout the rest of the story Arenas is on a desperate search for enchantment in his once short lived paradise. Throughout history, men have fought battles to protect and serve for their country. Some men become injured at war and others don t get to live on to tell their stories. However, would one imagine a comic opera playing in a maximum security prison? Would uneducated prisoners appreciate the music? In The Shawshank Redemption both of these events occurred. In The Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne plays an duet from Mozart s comic opera, The Marriage to Figaro, as its Enlightened ideals represent Andy s prison experience and its Classical characteristics evoke a sense of hope in the repressed prison. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart s The Marriage of Figaro reflects the social and musical influence of the Classical period. Socially, The Marriage of Figaro reflects the ideals of the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was was a period that saw the institutions of Europe religious, political, social, educational, industrial, financial and artistic slowly but inexorably lower their focus from the ruling aristocratic and clerical classes to a new class of people. For want of a better term, we call this new and rising class of people the middle class (Greenberg Opera Buffa ). The Enlightenment placed an emphasis on the natural man or the common man, not just the aristocratic class (Kerman and Tomlinson Listen 153). • 46. Role of Natural Selection and Chance in the Survival of... Natural Selection and Chance in the Survival of Emperor Penguins Emperor penguins are majestic creatures; their life cycle portrayed in the film March of the Penguins shows a lifecycle fraught with dangers, including exposure to extreme environmental conditions and aggressive predators. Despite the challenges, the breed has survived. It may be argued that survival is the result of natural selection and the adaptations which have developed, but it is also argued luck plays a role. Natural selection occurs when genotypic characteristics which provide better adaption to the environment, increasing survival chances, reproduce and become increasing frequent within a population, perpetuating the beneficial characteristics (Beatty, 1984). Chance is luck, or simply being at the right, (or the wrong), place at the right, (or the wrong), time. Both appear to influence the life of the penguins. March of the Penguins starts with the journey to their mating ground across the ice in Antarctica, starting with a walk of 70 miles. Natural selection starts at this point; many penguins die during the journey across the ice; only those who survive the journey reproduce. Penguins are not unique, returning through dangers to specific mating grounds. Other examples include salmon and eels, showing a general pattern of natural selection. During mating, penguins choose a single mate each season. Why mates are chosen is unknown, but as females fight over the males, there may be preferred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
