The growth of the Internet and related technologies has enabled the development of a new breed of dynamic websites and applications that are growing rapidly in use and that have had a great impact on many businesses. These websites need to be continuously evaluated and monitored to measure their efficiency and effectiveness, to assess user satisfaction, and ultimately to improve their quality. Nearly all the studies have used Heuristic Evaluation (HE) and User Testing (UT) methodologies, which have become the accepted methods for the usability evaluation of User Interface Design (UID); however, the former is general, and unlikely to encompass all usability attributes for all website domains. The latter is expensive, time consuming and misses consistency problems. To address this need, new evaluation method is developed using traditional evaluations (HE and UT) in novel ways.
The lack of a methodological framework that can be used to generate a domain-specific evaluation method, which can then be used to improve the usability assessment process for a product in any chosen domain, represents a missing area in usability testing. This paper proposes an adapting framework and evaluates it by generating an evaluation method for assessing and improving the usability of a product, called Domain Specific Inspection (DSI), and then analysing it empirically by applying it on the educational domain. Our experiments show that the adaptive framework is able to build a formative and summative evaluation method that provides optimal results with regard to the identification of comprehensive usability problem areas and relevant usability evaluation method (UEM) metrics, with minimum input in terms of the cost and time usually spent on employing UEMs.

ABSTRACT: Distance learning is an ancient idea to impart education to the learners who were
unable to join the regular educational institutes. Revolution in information technology has changed this
mode of learning to e-learning. E-learning is the mode of education in which the learners in remote
areas were educated through the use of technology. Many institutes have developed dedicated websites
and learning management systems such as open courseware, to introduce e- learning method. These
learning management systems are very efficient, have vast learning material and communication
channels without assistive support for physically disabled users. Lack of assistive technology support
in these websites stimulated negative user experiences. In this research work an e-learning usability
evaluation model based on user’s mental model, had been developed. Objective of this research work
was to reduce the gap between user’s mental model and designer’s perception. The major problem
while improving usability was a communication gap between user and designer.

INTRODUCTION
Just making things easy to visualize may not be
a parameter to address the usability. Usability is a well-
defined unit of product adoption level of user with
contentment, competence and worth. User experience,
cognition and learning ability are important factors for
website surfing (ISO-9241-11, 1998). Usability of
websites is measured by its user adaptive level, screen
reading level, satisfaction and learnability. The above-
mentioned factors affect accessibility of a website design,
user adaptation and display of contents with ease of use
and navigation. Massachusetts institute of technology
(MIT) launched its open courseware in 2002 for the first
time in the history which gave the concept of e-learning.
A lot of irrelevant images or textures on the websites lead
to cognitive burden which disturbs the users. A
combination of intrinsic burden, germane burden and
extraneous burden is known as cognitive burden (Hasan,
2012).
The purpose of developing e-learning usability
evaluation model is to reduce the gap between mental

Students are experienced internet users but less experienced in their careers. A survey of 130 tertiary students found they are most confident using technology to find information but least confident using it to build professional relationships. While most students use LinkedIn, they have low confidence in using it, especially to build connections. Career practitioners see building students' digital career literacy as important but face challenges like inconsistent department messaging and limited online resources.
A GUIDELINE FOR AN EFFECTIVE USER INTERFACE FOR EDUCATIONAL SEMANTIC APPLICATIONijma
ABSTRACT
This research aims to produce a guideline for an effective user interface for semantic application particularly educational. In order to develop the guideline, a methodology of four phases; analysis, design, development and evaluation has been applied. Qualitative approach was used by using checklist instrument and interview questions with the experts in system design. A prototype was then developed using the proposed guideline. The prototype was evaluated using qualitative approach based on heuristic evaluation instrument involving a sample of ten teachers of secondary level. The user acceptance for this system was compared to the one which has been developed without the guideline. The result shows that the system developed by the proposed guideline has higher acceptance. Seven of ten teachers agreed that the most important principle in user interface design is effectiveness specifically the simplicity, aesthetic and minimalist design. It is useful to develop an effective user interface using this guideline.

Identifying the Factors Affecting Users’ Adoption of Social NetworkingWaqas Tariq
Through the rapid expansion of information and communication technologies, social networking sites have received much more attention in the scope of internet communication. Success of a social web primarily depends on users’ satisfaction. In this context, this study aims to identify the influencing factors that affect users’ satisfaction towards social networking site use. A multidimensional model has been proposed based on the Information Quality, System Quality, Environmental and Affective dimensions to assess the effects of key variables – Semantic Intention, Usability, Web-Page Aesthetics, Subjective Norm and Trust- on users’ satisfaction. Facebook was chosen as a focused social networking site, because of its popularity. A comprehensive survey instrument was applied to 203 Facebook users. Also, Structural Equation Modeling, particularly Partial Least Square, was conducted to analyze the proposed research model. As a result, proposed multidimensional research model predicts the factors influencing users’ satisfaction towards social networking site use and relationships among these factors. The findings of this research will be valuable for literature by analyzing the influencing factors that have not been previously researched in the context of social networking satisfaction area.
THE VICES OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON STUDENTS SUCCESS AT THE ADAMAWA STATE POLYTECHNI...ijcsit
Social media and social networking web sites have continued to gain supremacy in determining the
student’s success in education. It captures the attention of students and their tutors over the years. A social
media network is only an electronic links amongst its users which turned out to be a habit for students,
youngsters,
and even the grown person. The influence of social media on students is alarming and doing more harm
than good. The aim of the paper is to analyze the vices of social media on the academic success of students
of Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola. The survey method of research was adopted to achieve the objectives
of the study. Some research questions were presented to the respondents where the results revealed that so
many (96 percent of them) usually spent much time on the social networking sites than to their academics.
As such, the academic success of the students suffers setbacks which lead to poor performance in the
student’s academics. It is therefore recommended that the networking sites should be built in such a way to
support student’s educational activities in a positive way, as this will help in attracting the students to ge

Students in a teacher training college in Israel have developed and taught curricula on the intelligent use of the Web. The educational programs were based on activities thematically related to the world of digital citizenship, such as the rights of the child and the Internet, identity theft, copyrights, freedom of expression and its limitations, etc. This study examines the characteristics, advantages and shortcomings of the educational approaches used by 180 students.
Most of the students chose balanced approaches for developing and teaching curricula on the subject, relating both to the benefits and dangers of using the Web. Quite a few chose a negative critical approach focusing on the dangers and harmful effects of the Internet. A marginal minority chose a positive approach stressing only on the beneficial uses of the Web. In light of the analysis of the students' reflection questionnaires, it is able to identify those factors that assist and those that inhibit the teaching of the subject based on each of the approaches. In addition, recommendations were made for optimally adapting an approach for developing and teaching sub-topics of the curricula, which enhance the advantages and reduce the disadvantages of using web.

The document discusses both the positive and negative impacts of globalization. It notes that globalization can both promote progress through greater interconnectivity between people worldwide, but can also lead to cultural homogenization and the alteration of local cultural values and traditions. Specifically, the document states that while globalization expands exposure to foreign cultures, it can also influence people, especially younger generations, to take on global cultural trends at the expense of their traditional local identities. Both benefits like the spread of ideas and challenges like changes in traditional customs are discussed as complex effects of the growing interconnectedness between societies worldwide under globalization.
