My second album cover analysis, Amy Winehouse.

leadingtothe eyesbeingdrawntothe mainimage, the artistherself,

I have decidedtoexplore AmyWinehouse’sjazz
album,as I feel asif she replicatesmyartistand
inspiredme tocreate a newvisionof Jazzfor my
artist,as my newartistisgoingto be female and
more modernthanthe traditional jazzthatan
average personwouldnormallythinkof.
The cover isin blackand white,withblackbeingthe
prominentcolourforthe background,sothe white
fontstandsout, whichiscrucial because itmeans
that the artist’sname isstood out,therefore canbe
seenbya potential audiencewhenwalkingpastlots
of albums. The fontisverystereotypicallyfeminine
withthe thinlines andisvery‘jazz’ looking,asthe
“A” for example, lookslike ajukebox,therefore
showinginsidewillbe aseriesof differentsongs
that representsherasan artist,whilstrepresenting
the genre PostmodernJukebox, whichwasknown
for reworkingpopularmodernmusicintodifferent
vintage genres,especiallyearly20thcenturyforms
such as swingandjazz.
The main image isa picture of AmyWinehouse,
dressedina black,low-cutdress,withherface
and bodybeingover-exposed,contrastingitto
the darknessof everythingelse onthe cover,
makingherstand outmore; especiallyher
signature eyeliner,whichemphasisesthe
uniquenessof her,implyingthathermusicwill
alsobe unique. Herlow-cutdresswill also
encourage notonlyfemales,butthe male
audience too,asthey’ll be instantlyattracted to
the photograph,andtherefore be intriguedto
findoutnot onlymore aboutthe artist,but
hopefullyafterreadingturningtothe back of
the album,they’ll findoutmore abouther
musictoo. It also reflectsthe waythatthe
musiciancomesacrossalso,withthe cigarette
inher hand,portrayingherself asayoung
womanwhois carefree aboutlife andiswilling
to take risks,whichcouldalsosuggesthermusic
isa little random,linkingtothe jukebox
message seeninthe title.
The title of the albumalsorepresentsthe genre
extremelyclearly,asittellsthe audience exactly
whattheyshouldbe expectingwhenlooking
further.
In myopinion, the targetaudience forthisparticularalbumwouldbe late
teenage girls, possiblythe teenage girlswithamore playful andexciting
attitude, whowouldlookuptoAmyWinehouse andtryto copyher image,with
the huge eyelinerandthe wayshe dresses,makingthese younggirlsthinkthey
may look“cool”and “sexy”if theyfollowinherfootsteps.Assaidbefore,I
wouldalsosuggestthatthe male audience wouldalsobe interestedtoo,not
onlyjustfor hermusic,butAmy Winehouse herself.
