Amy Heymans is the founder and Chief Experience Officer of Mad*Pow and the founder of the Health Experience Design Conference. She discusses how our culture and lifestyle are making people sicker, with the top causes of death being preventable chronic conditions related to lifestyle. The US healthcare system focuses on sick care rather than preventive health and rates poorly in outcomes compared to cost. Systemic change is needed to focus on prevention, relationships, mind-body connection and holistic approaches. Her work aims to use human-centered design and behavioral science to help people achieve greater health, unite organizations, provide the right information at the right time, and address issues like mental health access and the opioid crisis through collaboration.
