Morphology of E. histolytica includes the trophozoite, precyst, and cyst forms which can have 1, 2, or 4 nuclei. Liver abscesses can develop when the infectious agents from an E. histolytica infection in the bowel are carried to the liver through the portal venous circulation, leading to seeding and formation of an amebic abscess in the liver.
