3. Deploying Google’s AML in UK
• UK already has AML - some handsets on some networks but only slowly
growing
• Google’s Android OS update to Play Services accelerates deployment -> means
each handset provider + network does not have to maintain it’s own AML
functionality
• BT PSAP tested with Google : 100s of test calls in a variety of locations to
optimise Thunderbird Configuration for SMS :-
- use of “data SMS”
- time to gather location (20 seconds)
- works alongside existing AML functionality (on some handsets)
• Coordinated meetings with Mobile Networks, Google and UK Regulator
- further testing with each network using wider range of handsets
- agreed common UK Thunderbird Partner Configuration
- allowed agreement to be signed and some changes to online Ts and Cs made
- agreed gradual rollout : enabling small % calls to start
• Rollout started on 6 June 2016
