Ed Parsons discusses ambient geospatial technology and how smartphones have become maps with their location services and ability to access maps and geospatial data. He notes that over 1 billion smartphones have been sold, carrying 6 billion devices and 30 exabytes of storage that make over 10,000 map edits per day across 230 countries. By 2020, it is estimated that there will be 25 billion devices connected to the internet, showing how computer technology is disappearing into everyday life through mobile devices.
