company offering wide range of integrated mobile, broadband, TV
and IT solutions as well as valuable content to both private and
business customers. Our mission is to make Estonia a better place
to live and work in. We aim to further develop local information
society and bring the world closer via excellent connectivity and
continuous innovations – on customer´s terms. Telia Eesti is part of
the international Telia Company headquartered in Stockholm.
-Telia Estonia turnover for 2016 Q1 was 69 million EUR.
-Telia Estonia has 863 000 customers for mobility services, out of
which 300 000 actively use mobile Internet services.
-In 2016 Q1 the company had 230 000 Internet broadband customers.
-There are 175 000 Telia TV customers.
-There are more than 2000 employees in Telia and the company is
market leader in all of its focus areas.

• We started the co-operation project in November 2015.
• Common project between Estonian Emergency Response Centre, all Estonian mobile
operators and Sony + Google later on.
• AML functionality in Sony devices was rolled out in March and April 2016 and continues
with upcoming models.
• Similar functionality available in Google Thunderbird solution (i.e. in all Android devices
from Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) onwards) in summer 2016.
• SMS sending possibility to 112 existed already earlier and there was also a positioning
system based on MLP in place.
What was needed from operator side

• To ensure that SMS messages are transported in the correct format (technical
compatibility).
• To ensure that the SMS messages to 112 are free for customers (local legal
requirement). This means cost for operators.
• Agreements with terminal vendors to include the functionality in phone software.
• Some help in testing the solution and verification from network side that messages are
moving as needed.

• Message to operators – AML and Thunderbird help you to save (your customers’) lives.
• How to succeed even better:
• Recommendation to include the automatic postioning via SMS as a part of local (or EU) regulation.
• Recommendation to include the automatic postioning via SMS in GSMA standards to be implemented in
all types of handheld devices.

About the company 21/06/2016 3 Telia Eesti is a new generation IT and telecommunications company offering wide range of integrated mobile, broadband, TV and IT solutions as well as valuable content to both private and business customers. Our mission is to make Estonia a better place to live and work in. We aim to further develop local information society and bring the world closer via excellent connectivity and continuous innovations – on customer´s terms. Telia Eesti is part of the international Telia Company headquartered in Stockholm.
  • 4. -Telia Estonia turnover for 2016 Q1 was 69 million EUR. -Telia Estonia has 863 000 customers for mobility services, out of which 300 000 actively use mobile Internet services. -In 2016 Q1 the company had 230 000 Internet broadband customers. -There are 175 000 Telia TV customers. -There are more than 2000 employees in Telia and the company is market leader in all of its focus areas. Some facts about the project 21/06/2016 5 • We started the co-operation project in November 2015. • Common project between Estonian Emergency Response Centre, all Estonian mobile operators and Sony + Google later on. • AML functionality in Sony devices was rolled out in March and April 2016 and continues with upcoming models. • Similar functionality available in Google Thunderbird solution (i.e. in all Android devices from Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) onwards) in summer 2016. • SMS sending possibility to 112 existed already earlier and there was also a positioning system based on MLP in place.

What was needed from operator side 21/06/2016 6 • To ensure that SMS messages are transported in the correct format (technical compatibility). • To ensure that the SMS messages to 112 are free for customers (local legal requirement). This means cost for operators. • Agreements with terminal vendors to include the functionality in phone software. • Some help in testing the solution and verification from network side that messages are moving as needed.

What to conclude from the experience 21/06/2016 7 • Message to operators – AML and Thunderbird help you to save (your customers’) lives. • How to succeed even better: • Recommendation to include the automatic postioning via SMS as a part of local (or EU) regulation. • Recommendation to include the automatic postioning via SMS in GSMA standards to be implemented in all types of handheld devices.
