Carriers face challenges in meeting network demand growth, reducing costs, and increasing revenue. The Wind River Carrier Grade Communications Server (CGCS) uses open source components to virtualize network functions on commodity servers. It enhances KVM with real-time extensions and adds an accelerated virtual switch. CGCS also enhances OpenStack for carrier-grade reliability and manageability. This allows networks to deploy new services faster while reducing costs through virtualization and multi-core platforms.
