This document discusses how teachers teach through who they are, where they are, and how they teach. It emphasizes that the messages schools transmit to students and parents, both explicitly through curriculum and implicitly through culture, are important to consider. Opportunities are presented to reconnect with colleagues and reflect on these messages. The environment of a school and how it supports the mission statement are also discussed. Experiential learning in various environments and their benefits are described.

Shape of the day: This mornings activity will hopefully offer something for everyone, and something different for everyone. It will literally be a walk in the park, a chance to reconnect and reengage with colleagues after many weeks away, but we'll also jump into considering some big questions related to school culture and the importance of the implicit curriculum of our schools.Consider each of our school’s learning environments, the culture of our schools, by considering Crippen Park, the Kilarney Lake area as a learning environment. I will share a frame to look a conceptual lens to look at learning environments. We will get used to looking through this conceptual lens through the examinaton of Crippen Park as a learning environment. Thinking of our schools, in contrast to Crippen Park, will hopefully catalyze some discussions around school culture: specifically how each school`s culture, beyond the explicit curriculum, teaches students about who they are as learners, as community members, Canadian and even global citizens.

So, because we are on Bowen, we will share a bit of the culture of BICS and hopefully by sharing a bit of the culture of BICS and a lesson of experiential education, it will create some entry points, conversation starters as to thinking about the culture of your school.
