Preliminary evaluation
When doing my preliminary task of creating a contents page and the front cover of a school
magazine I took into account many key points.
I have chosen the house colour of red, to keep with the theme of the Grace Dieu Manor School. The
school is a public school set in the country side, teaching children from the ages of four to eleven. I
have kept my front cover original, by using all of my own photos taken in lessons and kept all of the
fonts the same, in keeping with my theme.
I have created my own school logo using the photo editing software “serif photo plus” and also “serif
page plus”. This consists of the colour red, back and gold. I went on to a font creating website, and
made four letters “G, D, M and S” this stands for Grace dieu manor school.
On my contents page, I have used a flocked traditional border, which keeps with the schools trend
and have changed it to the colour red, linking back to my house colour. All font have been done in
the style of Embassy BT, this is a more formal font in the style of serif. It has more even and well
presented flow, but is still easy to read. The actual contents page has quite a simple design, with one
medium close up shot and also a low angle long shot. This shows that I can use a verity of camera
angles and also make them stand out by using more advanced camera shot techniques. I have also
made some very subtle changes to the pictures for example I have given then each shot a thin red
border, trying to link it as much as possible to my main house colour. I have also added a small
school logo in the top right hand corner of my medium close up shot.
Both of the photos consist of a student in a class environment. One is taken from behind, and was
done through the doorway of a year 8 class in the morning. I have used the blurring tool on photo
shop, to focus the attention of the reader on the student with her hand up. As mentioned above I
have added in the school logo I created, to remind the reader of what school magazine they are
looking at. In my second photo I have taken a picture of a fellow colleague, singing into the
microphone in the drama studio. This gives a realistic feel to the shot and with the black backdrop
puts all eyes on her.
I have a few criticisms of my front cover in that I was unable to arrange the font so that it was easier
to read, but am not too concerned because it is only a preliminary task. When doing my actual music
magazine task, I will be a lot more familiar with the software and will find it easier to manipulate the
pictures to how see relevant.
In conclusion I would like to take into account how long it take to create a detail front cover and
would re organise my time to make sure that all possible aspects of the magazine will be done with
my absolute one hundred percent effort.
