1. Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the
full product?
2. Looking back at the preliminary task I feel that I have progressed a
lot because I didn’t know how to use certain programmes when I first
started but when I did my music magazine I was already familiar with
them this helped me a lot.
I learnt how to use different cameras, photoshop, indesign, illustrator
and the feedback I got from my preliminary task was different to my
magazine which shows that I have changed over the production and I
have progressed.
This makes it less time consuming because what we did in the
preliminary task helped with what I did in my music magazine.
4. Masthead
Preliminary
• Use of many colours.
• Use of difficult font to
read.
• Looks upfront too
much action.
Music magazine
• Looks more serious
• Use of dark colours
• More intriguing
• Use of skylines
• Appeals to people more.
5. Preliminary
Contents page
Music magazine.
• Use of double page spread
• Too many bright colours
• Images placed everywhere
• Not that serious
• Pictures placed accordingly
• Use of double page
• Dark colours looks real
• Something you may see in a real
magazine.
6. Photography
My photography has improved from the
preliminary task because of the different
settings and cameras that I got to use.
I thought learning to use a DSLR
camera was more beneficial than
using our phones that are not as
good as a DSLR camera and wont
have the same effect of doing it in
a studio.
The use of the backdrop also
shows seriousness and adds an
atmosphere of entertainment for
others.
• Text is more layed
out rather than
college magazine
• Consistent colours
• Dark colours
• More appealing
• Looks real
7. Colour scheme
My colour scheme was all over the place when I did my college
magazine, when I saw it I couldn’t concentrate on it because it was
all in my face and I couldn’t concentrate on looking at it and feeling
like I wanted to read it that’s why I went for darker colours on my
music magazine.
My music magazine consisted of navy blue, maroon, white and black
which made it look more serious and I felt that I could read it unlike
my college magazine and it looked serious and appealed to me more
than my college magazine which was good.
8. Final summary
Overall I feel that I did do better in my music magazine and doing the
preliminary task helped with that, because I got the chance to learn
stuff before hand rather than learning things and creating my music
magazine at the same time.
However I felt that some aspects were rushed which meant that not
all of my music magazine was as perfect as it could be and I learnt
this from my preliminary task because I rushed my contents page but
that didn’t help me when producing my music magazine because I
felt the cover page was the most important aspect.
