Short Biography of Albert Einstein
Date of Birth: Born on March 14, 1879
Place of Birth : Ulm, Germany
Parents: Father - Hermann Einstein
Mother: Pauline Einstein.
• 1895 He is sent to the Swiss town of Aarau to finish high school.
• 1896 Albert graduates from high school at the age of 17 and enrolls
at the ETH (the Federal Polytechnic) in Zurich. He renounces
his German citizenship
1900 Einstein graduates in 1900 from ETH with a degree in physics.
1903 January 6, 1903: Einstein marries Mileva.
• 1904 May 14, 1904: Albert and Mileva's first son, Hans Albert
Einstein.
• 1905 His Special Theory of Relativity is born and he applies his theory to mass and energy and
formulates the famous equation e=mc2. Einstein has four papers published in the Annalen der
Physik, the leading German physics journal. 1905 is known as Einstein's "Wonderful Year".
1908 Albert Einstein becomes a privatdozent (an associate professorship) at the University of Bern.
1916 His General Theory of Relativity is published.
1917 Einstein writes his first paper on cosmology.
1919 February 14, 1919: Einstein and Mileva divorce and Einstein marries his cousin Elsa on May 29.
A solar eclipse proves Einstein's General Theory of Relativity
• 1921 Einstein visits to the U.S. and lectures at Princeton University on theory of relativity.
• 1922 Albert Einstein is awarded the Nobel Prize in physics for 1921.
• 1933 January: Adolf Hitler appointed Chancellor of Germany Albert Einstein leaves Germany and
emigrates to U.S. in September and settles in Princeton, New Jersey where he assumes a post at
the Institute for Advanced Study.
1934 The World As I See It published.
1935 The Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox is published.
1936 Elsa Einstein dies.
1943 Works with the Research and Development Division of the U.S. Navy on Ammunition and Explosives.
• 1952 Albert Einstein is offered presidency of the State of Israel
• 1955 Co-signs the Russell-Einstein Manifesto warning of the nuclear threat
April 17: Albert Einstein experienced internal bleeding
April 18: He died in Princeton Hospital at the age of 76
First Marriage
Albert fell in love with the Winteler's daughter, Maric.
Although Einstein's parents didn't approve
of Maric. On January 3, 1903 Maric and Albert got married.
Albert and Maric had two more children; Hans (born in 1904),
and Eduard (born in 1910). Unfortunately,
Einstein divorced Maric on February 14, 1919.
(In the picture below, Albert is with his first wife, Maric)
(In the picture above, Albert and his
second wife/cousin, Elsa EInstein)
Einstein's second wife, Elsa happened to be Alberts first cousin.
On June 2, 1919 they got married. Unfortunately, Elsa died young at
the age of sixty from heart and kidney problems.
Second Marriage
The Nobel Prize in Physics 1921. The Nobel Prize in Physics 1921 was
awarded to Albert Einstein "for his services to Theoretical Physics,
and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric
effect". Albert Einstein received his Nobel Prize one year
later, in 1922.
Nobel Prize
Albert Einstein was famous as an author and brilliant Physicist
in pioneering work with his special theory of relativity and
specifically massar“energy equivalence: E = mc2
Albert Einstein why famous?
Applications of Einstein's work:
There are many applications of Einstein's work, but here are some of the bigger ones in astronomy:
Gravitational waves: In 2016, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO)
detected space-time ripples — otherwise known as gravitational waves.
Mercury's orbit: Mercury is a small planet orbiting close to a very massive object relative to its
size — the sun,
Gravitational lensing: This is a phenomenon by which a massive object (like a galaxy cluster or a
black hole) bends light around it.
Zero-point energy: In a series of works completed from 1911 to 1913, Planck reformulated his
1900 quantum theory and introduced the idea of zero-point energy.
General relativity and the equivalence principle:
General relativity (GR) is a theory of gravitation that was developed by Einstein between 1907 and
1915. According to general relativity.
Physical Cosmology:
In 1917, Einstein applied the general theory of relativity to the structure of the universe as a
whole Einstein introduced a new term, the cosmological constant, to the field equations
